Ranking All Books by Holly Jackson
Since I've read all of Holly's books, I'm going to rank them! Disclaimer: This is my opinion. If we don't have the same opinion, then respect that. Let's go!
Warning: this may contain spoilers for all books published by Holly Jackson. If you don't want to be spoiled, then scroll away.
6. Killjoy (2021)
Tumblr media
I found this story cute! Very fun and fast-paced. I loved seeing how it all started and loved seeing the friend group's dynamic again. I just found this to not be the best out of all of Holly's books (granted this is a novella, but it's not my fave). Also, too much Ant Lowe in my opinion. I would have preferred more Jamie Reynolds. Also, I personally think Connor and Zach should've kissed but oh well.
Overall, fun book! If you wanna go back to where it all started, then this novella is worth it.
5. Five Survive (2022)
Tumblr media
Guys... I have a reason why this book is ranked so low. I'm going to start by saying that I did not hate this book. I found the story intriguing and was engaged once the action started. For her first standalone, this book was really good and exceeded my expectations. My main problem with this book was that I found that I could care less about the characters. Personally, I found Red Kenny to be a weak protagonist in comparison to Pip and Bel and, not to mention how I could care less about Red and Arthur. Red and Arthur are cute, but honestly, I could care less if they got together or not.
Again, I don't hate this book. For Holly's first standalone, it was really good. However, I found that I didn't really care for any of the characters.
Overall, good book! Wish I connected more to the characters because the premise is incredible.
4. Good Girl, Bad Blood (2020)
Tumblr media
All books in the AGGGTM series are five star reads in my opinion, but I find this the weakest book in the trilogy. Honestly, I love this book with my whole heart. Coming from being Connor Reynolds's biggest fan, I love how much he appeared in this book and how he aided in finding Jamie.
I think this book suffers from what I've dubbed "Sequel Slump" - meaning that the first book is so good that the sequel "slumps" in comparison. In this case, A Good Girl's Guide to Murder is so good that this book just "slumps" in comparison, and I think it's because it takes a while for the mystery to officially begin, since we're taken through a quick recap over the previous book's events and then the memorial.
Also, I personally think that Connor and Zach should've kissed. Connor going to Zach's house to play Fortnite after the memorial? Very fruity to me (joking... or am I?)
Overall, love this book. Wish it got more recognition in the fandom.
3. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (2019)
Tumblr media
LOVE THIS BOOK. This book is fast-paced, thrilling and mysterious. It has a healthy dose of mystery and romance, along with characters I truly felt interested in. Pip's an amazing protagonist who fought hard to prove Sal innocent and find the real killer under the guise of her EPQ, all as she got the guy (Ravi Singh) in the end.
I loved that this book kept me guessing until the very end. I was suspecting everyone (Max, Jason, Naomi, Elliot, etc) and was genuinely surprised finding out Elliot killed Sal. Holly had written him to be such a likeable person that I couldn't believe he would kill Sal just so he could frame him as Andie's killer. AND BECCA? Never would've guessed it. Holly Jackson knows how to write compelling thrillers and I love that for her.
My only real complaint is again, Zach and Connor should've kissed. Connor honey I get that you liked Pip, but Zach Chen is literally right there. You boys are soulmates and I pray that the show recognises that (along with LauCara).
Overall, AMAZING BOOK. Deserves all the hype!
2. As Good as Dead (2021)
Tumblr media
AHHHHH I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH. THIS BOOK IS HOW YOU END A TRILOGY GUYS. From the beginning, I was hooked by the mystery of Pip's stalker. This book broke my heart with Andie's email - poor girl was so scared of her father and died trying to escape him. I really like how this book doesn't give Andie a full redemption arc, rather it explains her actions. It really humanises Andie - a girl who grew up in a toxic environment and died trying to save herself and her sister.
My heart shattered when Pip broke up with Ravi. AND HIS SUGGESTION WAS TO MARRY SO THEY COULD GET SPOUSAL PRIVILEDGE??? RAVI FUCKING SINGH WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME???
The ending? EVIL. FUCKING EVILLLL BUT I LOVE HOLLY EITHER WAY. In my heart, I believe Pip got back together with him and they married. They also got another golden retriever in my mind after they got married.
Only complaint was WHERE WAS ZACH CHEN? CONNOR AND HIM SHOULD'VE KISSED WTF. Not to mention Lauren and Cara... Love my girl Steph though. Hoping that Lauren and Cara are a thing in the show though since we don't know much about Steph.
Overall, BEST BOOK IN THE TRILOGY GUYS.
The Reappearance of Rachel Price (2024)
Tumblr media
HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
THIS BOOK... I WILL ONLY SAY ONE WORD: BRILLIANT.
When Holly Jackson said that this book was her favourite, I can see why it is. While I struggled to get into it from the beginning, once I read past 100 pages, I was hooked. Bel Price is such a complex protagonist that I could find myself relating to. All the characters were just so complex and you truly don't know who's lying until the very end, when we find out (spoiler alert) that Charlie (Bel's dad) had ordered his father to kill Rachel.
Not to mention how insane the sibling plotline was??? I NEVER WOULD HAVE SUSPECTED THAT CARTER WAS RACHEL'S BIOLOGICAL DAUGHTER. My heart broke when Rachel spoke about how Patrick took Carter away from her when Carter was only two weeks old. The Price family are truly disgusting - Rachel, Bel and Carter deserved so much better.
Also, I preferred the romance between Ash and Bel over Arthur and Red. Ash is such a fun character and I was genuinely sad when him and Bel weren't endgame. I believe that one day, in the near future, they reunite and get together officially.
Overall, LOVE THIS BOOK. If you haven't picked this up yet, then do so now!

my review of the agggtm live action tv show
hello! I just finished watching the agggtm tv show and I have some thoughts. Here are some warnings before you read below the cut.
I have literally only watched the show and (and read) book once so not every detail will be accurate. If I think I got something wrong, I will make it known.
This is my opinion!!! If you hated or loved the show with all your heart, don’t make that my problem!
I’m not British so I can’t comment on Emma Myers accent.
and finally because they are always some lurking in fandom, racists DNI
spoilers for the rest of the agggtm trilogy below
Alright so to start I think the show, on its own, is good television. It’s got intrigue and the pacing is good and the humor is pretty good at some parts however. I have three main issues with how it deviates from the book.
Show don’t tell.
what many shows have trouble with is telling the audience something instead of showing it. In the books, Pip pretends to be a CNN reporter and e-mails old students of the school about drink spiking. She’s told that it happened to quite a few female students. She hears that Andie sold roofies. She was told by Jesse that Becca got the morning after pill and wouldn’t tell who she slept with. She was told by Andie’s friend (or Becca’s, I do not remember) that Jason was controlling and pit them against each other often.
So pip makes the connection that Becca was raped by Max Hastings and found out that Andie was the one who sold the drugs. Pip is the one who connects the dots that Becca must’ve confronted Andie and it went awry. But in the show Pip is just told outright to protect her drink and that Becca was raped. I think the show did a lot of this, cutting Pip’s slow process of unraveling the murder in exchange for quick answers to immediate questions. It also dials down how clever yet morally questionable Pip is.
Cut cast and scenes
I get that a show with a low budget probably won’t be able to afford as many actors or sets as a high budget show but I’m genuinely shocked how many side characters (or interviews) were cut or down sized in the show. Stanley Forbes is the most obvious one because he plays a much larger role in the second season. Andie’s best friends too-in the book it was specifically mentioned how she could be emotionally manipulative and terrible. It showed how, while everyone thought that Andie was perfect and Sal was the villain, Andie was actually awful. It plays to the trilogies bigger theme of stories never being what they seem from the outside. The show did not show this as well.
Pip x Ravi took front and center
I get that BookTok prioritizes ships and romances and that well liked tropes and hot couples can be a great aisle of advertising. But what the fuck? Everyone on BookTok also talks about how much the romance as a subtle yet powerful thing was so beautiful. I don’t have a good enough memory but I really feel like way too much emphasis was but on their relationship, pushing away Pips love for her friends and family and even Ravi’s family. Was it just me but who else thinks it’s really weird that they cut the scene where Ravi’s parents passionately thank Pip for clearing Sal’s name? It showed how much the family had been freed from being the “shun” “scum” family.
Thank you for reading. Go watch the show if you want. Emma Myers was adorable. Good day ✌🏽

Play for Today: The Flipside of Dominick Hide (BBC, 1980)
"Complacent with your mission, Dominick? Amusing, the history of transport. We've made a modicum of progress: trips are regulated to microseconds, punctuality taken for granted."
"Yes."
"Why then were you two minutes late on your double return? Machine fault?"
"No. I'm sorry."
"I accept apology. Reason?"
"It was raining. Rain slows everything. I saw an old woman knocked down and I was checking how long before help reached her. The medi-car was blocked in progress, I think she died."
"So?"
"I thought it might be interesting."
"People are not your conspectus, Dominick. If you wish to study people, watch old films."
#play for today#the flipside of dominick hide#classic tv#bbc#1980#alan gibson#jeremy paul#peter firth#caroline langrishe#pippa guard#patrick magee#trevor ray#sylvia coleridge#jean trend#timothy davies#denis lawson#bernadette shortt#tony melody#bill gavin#david griffin#karl howman#PfT is often discussed as if it only produced gritty social realism (which was perhaps its abiding impact) but the strand wasn't afraid to#dip its toes into genre waters: cue this‚ one of the most successful plays in PfT's run‚ spawning a sequel‚ a spin off series of plays#(short lived Play for Tomorrow) and ended up as probably the best received and reviewed bbc play of 1980. finally catching up to it and i#can see why it struck a chord maybe; it's a very charming piece‚ with a delightful central performance from Firth‚ and a greater emphasis#on romantic comedy than hard sci fi. but it's also a rewardingly detailed script (dialogue in all future scenes is stripped of anything#but necessary words‚ so that sentences are blunt and self contained‚ just one aspect of a streamlined future) and with oblique references#for the viewer to work out (unsettling mention of an elderly tourist breaking down at a visit to the 1936 Olympics‚ the significance lost#on Dominick and his future colleagues). the cast is stuffed with future stars in small roles (Phil Davis‚ Mark Wingett and Denis Lawson all#have small roles) but i was delighted to find Pat Magee onboard‚ having genuinely no idea he'd appeared in this. a fun time! sweet and soft

A short book talk
I have just finished reading aggtm and first thing: I have never finished a trilogy so fast before. I started reading in December and I had to wait quite a while for the last book, but nearly a half year while writing exams. It’s amazing and I would definitely recommend it. Honestly for me the last book wasn’t as horrible as people said it would be. My fave is the first one, but the others are also strong. And mostly it was logical and I could agree with Pips actions... not all though. At some points I thought about more then Pip was and basically yelled at her trough the book. I also immediately knew who the DT Killer was, since I wanted it to be him so bad and as an author you know how thrillers are usually build up. I love Ravi as everyone else. And most importantly I was reading the first book while there was a murder in my small town…that part probably wasn’t the best idea. Anyways ten out of ten would recommend. Check it out yourself. And I will definitely check out the new series. Can’t wait for that, but I have one minor problem: they casted the wrong dog.

“Maybe the rain would help, water down the rage until she was no longer ablaze, just the charred parts left behind.”
Tumblr media
Goodreads rating 4.30★ My rating 5★ (I would give it a 6 to be very honest)
Okay so this one... I think had me hooked more than the first one. The last 200 pages I COULD NOT bring myself to put it down. It's not romance focused at all but I adore every and each Pip x Ravi interaction so much. :(
This is the perfect combination of an intriguing story that will make you curious to where it's leading you, and at the same time will make you cry.
It also has a couple illustrations which were very cute! I love when they pop up eheh.
*SPOILER ALERT*
I felt a lot of things, and mad was definetely one of them, especially with the Matt Hastings trial and Stanley's death. However, it really is very satisfying connecting all the dots when things unveil.
“You aren't on your own here, so stop pushing people away. Stop pushing me away.”
Tumblr media
As I'm writing this, THE TRAILER FOR THE BBC SHOW "A GOOD GIRL'S GUIDE TO MURDER" IS OFFICIALLY OUT!! I'm so so excited, I just hope it minimally lives up to my expectations because I really think it has major potential as a series!!
Also, I'm immediately starting "As Good As Dead" and I feel like I'm going to be in a series hangover afterwards, I'm enjoying this so much.
“You should have just asked me. I know exactly who you are. And I love her. I love you. Oh, by the way, I said it first.”

Anyway, if you made it this far thank you for reading this review! I’ll leave you with the synopsis if you’d like to take a look, as well as it’s Goodreads link. See you soon! 𓃠

Pip is not a detective anymore.
With the help of Ravi Singh, she released a true-crime podcast about the murder case they solved together last year. The podcast has gone viral, yet Pip insists her investigating days are behind her.
But she will have to break that promise when someone she knows goes missing. Jamie Reynolds has disappeared, on the very same night the town hosted a memorial for the sixth-year anniversary of the deaths of Andie Bell and Sal Singh.
The police won't do anything about it. And if they won't look for Jamie then Pip will, uncovering more of her town's dark secrets along the way... and this time everyone is listening. But will she find him before it's too late?

Pippa Latour is the Last Secret Agent
You all know I love a WWII novel recounting the hard work done by women in the name of freedom and peace. When I walked into the library one day to drop off some books, I saw this on the Bestie stand – a display currently housing many New Zealand reads – and immediately knew I had to read it. This is the memoir of Pippa Latour, an SOE agent who lived to the age of 102 before she ever told her…

A Good Girls Guide To Murder
To start, I'd like to clarify some things. Everything written here is simply my own opinion. I do not mean any offense, but this is my review and by reading this, you are reading my raw opinion on the book/books. So, don't get mad at me just because you didn't like what I said.
TW: spoilers, mentions of murder, rape, suicide, etc if these topics or topics like such is not your thing please do not read or try another review instead
Okay, let's begin. I will be talking about each book in the series and slowly linking them.
To start with the first book, I'd say it was a good book. Although my thoughts of the book before reading it completely differed from what the book is, considering the given hype. To say I didn't do my research before reading was an understatement. I thought I'd be reading a romance book with something like a
"A girl goes missing five years ago and the alleged killer suicide when things get hot so the police direct him as the killer although evidence of that is meek, high school student with a school project uncovers the truth with the alleged killer's brother but things get complicated with the brother Ravi Singh as feelings are brought to the surface"
see I know this sounds about right but in reality, it was just Pippa and Ravi uncovering the mystery. The amount of romance in that book was just as much as there is evidence that Sal is the killer but from my understanding, that's a fault on my part for not doing my research.
The book, in general, was great the storyline kept me hooked and although the book wasn't as realistic as I hoped it would be, in the way it reminded me of all usual murder mystery plots everything goes well until in the end, something is not right 'it doesn't feel right/doesn't make sense'
she gets dizzy one night and everything just sorta comes to her and she knows who the killer is although the slight plot-twist that it was Bella was interesting even more so that sal was murdered and not suicide I felt like in proper cases you'd truthfully have a lot more 'so what next' or more stops and bumps in the road I also felt like Pippa made a lot of assumptions without too much evidence which just turned out to be right. In which the da SiIva family sorta proves.
I did find the uncovering of Andie Bells' true face / real personality entertaining and I'm not so sure it lives up to the hype it's an amazing book don't get me wrong beautifully written but with the hype I hoped more would come from it but that's probably cause I'm a huge romance fan and there wasn't much romance at all. Other than Sal, Andie, Pippa, and Ravi / main characters. Which speaking of we didn't learn much about everyone else from the first book,
okay so about the second book,
I kinda felt like you know how there are certain series or shows where the first season takes off and to keep people hooked they add another season that's just not as good as the first season its a sort of a very slight unnessicary drag of the story I wouldn't apply it to the book much but in the beginning, it was a bit slow and slightly dragged I think it might be because Pippa doesn't have the same excitement as the first time as this time it's more forced and a bit frantic less organized and so it feels a BIT (I SAID A BIT FOR A REASON)
like a drag of the first book more than a continuation. But after a while things start to look up and Pippa has her first well-deserved breakdown, it gets really interesting from there 'What truly happened to Jamie' rings in my head, and after I finished the book I was.... overwhelmed. sad? slightly disappointed? I was sad for Stanly as I don't think he deserved to die, disappointed as I was kinda hoping Jamie would be dead not that he was being kept in a house not so against his will, there was also less mystery-solving compared to the first book which had quite the angst? is that the word? Somewhere there also not a lot of damage was done to Pippa besides her sanity.
But the way they wrote her trauma was beautiful. but we did learn a bit more about the background characters which was fun.
now about the third book,
where do I even start um it was a mess, not the book but Pippa. She was an absolute mess. I love the sense of urgency she had for just peace in general to the fact that she went to drugs and tried keeping busy with a new case as a coping system. The PTSD/trauma was written nicely I feel it was more on the realistic side. Jason taunting her and ending up being the DT killer was a seep into the darkness of the Bell family and their mental issues.
I would have loved to hear more about that dark part of the Bell family there is a messed history or story there, the youngest daughter accidentally kills her sister who was a mean girl from a shit abusive family and ruined other people's lives (nat), had a thing with her teacher so she could get into yale, dealing drugs with the guy who raped her sister. Her dad was a serial killer too so there is something deeply wrong with the family which I wished there was a deeper dive into.
besides that everyone is talking about how the third book is a literal guide to murder which I get but I feel like it wasn't realistic in the sense you don't just kill someone and be as calm as Pippa was (ik she wasnt calm but comparatively she was calmer than she should have been) I get she had to be but that area of the book was much less frantic compared to the ptsd trauma she went through by seeing and having a dead guys blood on her arms. like that makes no sense I mean she was nervous and scared but not as much as she should have been same with Ravi why was he so calm about everything I would have freaked out. hence why I say it wasn't realistic enough for me but moving on
I did enjoy the ending when she left everyone till the trial and when Ravi contacted her but again I'm a sucker for romance
summary:
so basically it was a good book but way too hyped beautifully written but if I'm being honest as good as it was I'm probably not gonna think about this book very often it was fun to read I would definitely recommend it but it is over-hyped.
which ends the review of 'A Good Girls Guide to Murder' by Holly Jackson

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: The Gossip and the Grump by Pippa Grant 🎧
Another very solid read from Grant, this small town romance was easy to binge in one sitting. I loved the initial encounter between these strangers, which showed the softer side to both. They let down their guards for one night and revealed pieces of themselves that they probably wouldn’t have with anyone else. That makes their second encounter – as brand new enemies – all the more delicious, and…
