Pimm's Cups
Ava and I are loving our new flat in Tāmaki Makaurau, so even if we're only here for a few days, we are taking the time to lounge in the sun on the balcony, with beautifully refreshing Pimm's Cups --a classic of Summer cocktails for almost two centuries!-- at arm's length! Cheers!
Ingredients (serves 2):
3 medium Garden Strawberries
1/3 cucumber
1 orange
about 2 or 3 dozens small ice cubes
1/2 large lemon
120 millilitres/4 fluid ounces Pimm's No. 1
chilled Ginger Ale (like Bundaberg's), to top
2 sprigs fresh mint
Rinse the Strawberries, cucumber and orange under cold water. Then, pat them dry.
Halve two of the Strawberries, and cut six thin slices cucumber and two slices orange. Set aside.
Fill two Whisky or Collins glasses to three-quarters with ice cubes.
Thoroughly squeeze lemon juice, and divide between both glasses. Pour Pimm's No. 1 over the ice and lemon juice in each glass, and add an orange slice in each. Top with chilled ginger ale.
Garnish with reserved cucumber slices, Strawberries and mint sprigs.
Enjoy Pimm's Cups immediately, preferably in good company...

Trying to get my thoughts together to make a post about rivals jackparse in a world where Jack went to the draft after his 1-2 years in recovery and their messy not break up that becomes a real break up turns into a legendary rivalry until they are forced to make nice during some international event or asg or a trade. Maybe Grilled cheesby shit talking to the press and blaming each other for injuries shit -> becoming friends/friendly at worlds type of narrative.
#jack has better coping mechanisms but is lacking a solid support network#i think he actually does pretty well stats wise and maybe even wins a cup or two and makes friends but he defintiely#is not as comfortable in his skin as in canon and while surpremely talented like guaranteed all star i think a lot of front office see him#as a risk#kent i think would be largely the same also has a cup or two (bc i dont think kent actually had 3 cups in canon? it sounds like he had only#1 in year 2)#captain of his team has friends but maybe not the most supportive environment but hes very good at faking it#actually vould be fun to position kent and stability but not a lot of team support vs jack with less front office support and stability wit#better teammate support#hm thoughts to think#idk im just taken with this idea i want ovi/sid level rivalry but theyre exes and it fucks them up soooo bad#and then they get back together eventually but first they get to be messy and mean to each other#pimms#jackparse#need to think on it more before writing out a bigger post

New Orleans Cocktail of the Month: Pimm’s Cup The Pimm’s Cup was not born in New Orleans. That honor goes to London, where James Pimm invented it in the 1840s. But it was New Orleans that introduced the drink to the US. It seems that “Uncle Joe” Impasto liked what he tasted on a trip to London in the 1940s, brought it back to his Napoleon House, gave it a Big Easy twist, and the rest is history. Combining Pimm’s No. 1, lemonade, and 7-Up, the Pimm’s Cup is the perfect low-alcohol refresher for those hot New Orleans summer nights – which would make them a perfect drink for Miss Fisher Con 2024! https://www.neworleans.com/drink/cocktails/pimms-cup/

Wait, wait, wait ✋️ what?? I LOVE PIMM'S!!! Where is this fic?? Reading ...
Hey! There was a fic I loved that involved Pimm’s in a pool, possibly? Like Pimm’s literally filling a pool. Also a lot of mutual pining and staying at hotel rooms together. Sorry this is so vague, but I’d love to find the fic again!
Reply: I'm not coming up with anything. Hopefully someone else knows it!

Miss Flighty's Jet Fueled Ginger Cardamom Cocktail Syrup from Alberta Straub on Vimeo.
This recipe for Ginger Cardamom Syrup was created over 5 years ago. Back then there was a much more limited selection of distilled spirits and mixers, only 2 or 3 brands of Ginger Beer were available in San Francisco and even these did not add the spicy hot finish that I wanted for my cocktails. I develop this recipe over time, experimenting with proportion and method. The end result, with a 1:1 ratio sugar to water, and a whole pound of peeled sliced ginger, achieves the bold flavor profile I need to give my gin and whiskey drinks the sophisticated favor I was looking for.
I tried a new way of preparing the ginger since I filmed this episode, its a little time consuming but it brings out the flavor of the ginger even more. After peeling, use the same tool to slice the ginger into wafer thin strips, reduce cooking time and let the mixture sit until developed.
Homemade syrups do not use preservatives and will start to mold in the refrigerator after 2-3 weeks. Store surplus in the freezer, the high concentration of sugar prevents it from freezing solid and its easy to scoop out and use as necessary for home cocktail making.
For recipes using Miss Flighty's Ginger Cardamom Syrup, check out the MaryAnn with Ginger, the Pimm's Cup, the Pear Necessity, the Mac Daddy and the Georgia Julep!

Unveiling the Rich Heritage of Pimm's: A Timeless British Elixir
Imagine sipping a cool, refreshing concoction that encapsulates the spirit of a British summer. A drink that has stood the test of time, evoking nostalgia and a sense of conviviality. Welcome to the world of Pimm's, the quintessentially English beverage that has enchanted generations with its unique blend of flavors and its rich history. The story of Pimm's dates back to the mid-19th century when James Pimm, a farmer's son from Kent, London, set up a shellfish bar in the city. It was in this oyster house that Pimm began serving a secret blend of gin, quinine, and a proprietary mixture of herbs, creating what would eventually become known as Pimm's No. 1 Cup. This original concoction was touted for its distinctive taste and its ability to aid digestion. As word of Pimm's elixir spread, its popularity surged, leading to the opening of more Pimm's Oyster Houses across London. However, it wasn't until 1859 that Pimm's No. 1 was officially bottled and sold for retail consumption, marking the birth of an iconic brand that would soon become synonymous with British summer gatherings and social events. The early 20th century witnessed the introduction of various Pimm's 'cups,' each denoted by a number, including Pimm's No. 2 (Scotch whisky-based), No. 3 (brandy-based), No. 4 (rum-based), and No. 5 (rye-based). However, it was Pimm's No. 1 Cup that gained unparalleled fame and became the go-to beverage for garden parties, regattas, and Wimbledon, firmly establishing itself as a symbol of British leisure and sociability. Pimms Cup Cocktail Over the years, Pimm's has evolved into a versatile drink, often served with a mix of lemonade, fresh fruit, cucumber, and mint, creating the beloved Pimm's Cup cocktail. Its refreshing and aromatic taste has made it a staple in the British drinking culture, enjoyed not only during summer but also as a year-round favorite for those seeking a taste of tradition and a touch of English elegance. Today, Pimm's continues to hold its position as a beloved classic, transcending generations and cultures, with its distinctive blend of flavors and its ability to bring people together. Whether it's a garden party, a picnic in the park, or a sophisticated social gathering, Pimm's remains a symbol of conviviality, relaxation, and the joy of shared moments. As we raise our glasses filled with the fruity, herb-infused nectar, let us raise a toast to James Pimm, the visionary behind this timeless British elixir that continues to capture hearts and palates, embodying the spirit of conviviality and the essence of British tradition. Here's to the enduring legacy of Pimm's—a drink that has withstood the tides of time and continues to weave its magic into the fabric of British culture and beyond. Hire Our Little Red Pimms Van Our little red Pimms van is the perfect quirky way to have your Pimms served. Summer or winter, hot or cold, this adds a touch of Gallic flair to any event. From his time on VH1's Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party to his bestselling book of soul food recipes, “From Crook to Cook,” Snoop Dogg has shown us that he can get down in the kitchen.
Now, the D.O.-Double-G. is back with a follow-up to his successful cookbook debut – and this time, he brought a friend along. “Snoop Dogg Presents Goon with the Spoon” is a collab with Bay Area rapper Earl “E-40” Stevens, a.k.a “The Goon with the Spoon.” The book features over 65 recipes for every meal, along with colorful photos inspired by both rappers’ favorite recipes...and, of course, their mutual California love.
“E-40 is my big homie, my brother, my mentor. He paved the way for me on the West Coast,” Snoop said in a statement shared with The Root. “Watching him expand his love for food and cooking over the years to his many successful businesses is some boss-level shit. Which is why ‘Snoop Dogg Presents Goon With the Spoon’ had to be the next cookbook, ya dig?”
Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Mac ’n’ Cheese Bites, Cognac Mashed Potatoes and Purple Popsizzles are just a few of their creative takes on classic dishes and drinks.
So if you’re looking to add a little Cali flavor to your holiday menu, Snoop shared a couple of recipes from the book with us:
Ridin’ Dirty Shrimp ’n’ Grits
Shrimp and grits are a Southern staple, so this recipe is sure to be a favorite at your holiday brunch.
“We like to add a little crunch to our shrimp and grits, so make sure to fry that bacon hard!” Snoop says.
For The Grits
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1 cup [140 g] stone-ground grits (not instant)
2 cups [480 ml] low-sodium chicken broth
1 cup [240 ml] whole milk
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup [80 g] shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
For The Shrimp
4 slices bacon (not thick cut), cut crosswise into 1/2 in. [13 mm] pieces
1 lb [455 g] 21/25-count shrimp, peeled and deveined
3 green onions, thinly sliced, with 1 Tbsp dark green parts reserved for garnish
2 tsp hot sauce, preferably Crystal
Salt and cracked black pepper
To Make The Grits
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the grits and cook until lightly toasted for about 2 minutes. Add the chicken broth, milk and salt. Increase the heat to medium-high and bring to a boil.
Lower the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thick and creamy for 30 to 40 minutes. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the cheese. Cover to keep warm.
To Cook The Shrimp
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the bacon and cook until browned and crisp, 7 to 8 minutes, turning once halfway through cooking. Meanwhile, line a large plate with paper towels. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to the paper towel–lined plate. Discard all but 1 tbsp of the fat from the skillet.
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the shrimp and the green onions. Cook until the shrimp is pink and opaque throughout for 4 to 5 minutes. Remove from the heat, stir in the bacon and hot sauce, and season with salt and pepper.
Ladle the grits into individual bowls and top with the shrimp. Garnish with the reserved green onions and serve.
Pimp’s Cup (Makes 1 drink)
6 oz [180 ml] Pimm’s
2 oz [60 ml] fresh lemon juice
1 tsp sugar
2 orange slices
1 strawberry, sliced
Mint sprig
Ginger ale, for topping off
1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the Pimm’s, lemon juice, and sugar. Cover the shaker and shake well for 30 seconds.
In a tumbler, drop in the orange slices, strawberry slices, mint sprig, and ice. Strain the Pimm’s mixture into the prepared tumbler until halfway full and top off with ginger ale. Serve immediately.

the pimms cup is pretty easy and very refreshing! it's light in alcohol too & I use tiny cups. but mine is 1 shot pimms, top with 50/50 sparkling lemonade (I get it at lidl) and gingerale topped with a splash of lemon juice. I put cucumber and frozen blueberries in mine but strawberries and citrus slices
the white negroni was a bit too sweet for what I want from a negroni because I couldn't find Suze anywhere so it's just equal parts gin, lillet blanc, and white vermouth
I think I should make a proper drink menu for my house. These two are definitely part of the summer menu.
