Birthday of famous Danish “Skagen painter”, Michael Ancher - June 9, 1849 - 1927…

From the 1870s, Skagen had became a beloved artists’ and Bohemian colony on the tip of Jutland, where the light reflected from two oceans could inspire magical art. Painters, writers and composers mingled freely up there, liberated from some of the worst restraints of “Victorian” society…

Note: This was written by my bestfriend (of 10+ years) for my 25th birthday, for my then-fiance. Yes, I was engaged before and that almost 9-year relationship ended badly. That’s another story for another time, but I am better now. I just wanted to share this here because it’s such a beautiful piece of work and by far the BEST BIRTHDAY GIFT I HAVE EVER RECEIVED.  He said he based this “mula sa pinagtagpi-tagping usapan” namin.

A while ago I hit 300 followers and though to some people that might not seem like a lot, I am thankful for each and every single one of you. 

To celebrate this milestone I want to invite you all to join my writing challenge. I collected a huge list of quotes from Disney movies (since that is another passion of mine) for you to chose from and get inspired by.

Maine Mendoza and the Singing Angels Quartet (#Blog Entry 3 of 7)

The #EnchantressMaine23 celebrated another fruitful year in Maine’s blessed life. Aside from seeing Maine personally, I anticipated too meeting the Singing Angels Quartet. I know it will be special to have them too in the birthday bash for Maine in Winford Hotel.

How did I know about them first?

After I become very vocal in Twitter about my support for Maine, I started to interact with other fans. I followed more accounts who love Maine too. Through them, I read about the “Yup, I Am A Solid Maine Fan” (YIASM) invitation for the party. I even called it as piging (feast) for Maine. One morning in February, I read a notification in Twitter about the Singing Angels Quartet. They posted in a Facebook group of fans they want to see Maine personally. A fan in Twitter screenshot it and asked for other fans helped to make it possible. Another fan tagged me and other supporters to spread it further. I do not know who to contact so I just quote tweet that. Then, I tweeted I hope they know the organizers of the piging for Maine to fulfill this wish of the Singing Angels Quartet. Within hours, one of those handling the YIASM event replied to my tweet and said they will contact them. Another fan replied she is willing to sponsor the Singing Angels Quartet for the event. Thank you for all the generosity and online bayanihan in making it possible.

How was meeting them?

While waiting for the program to start, I asked other fans in table #5 where I was if they have seen the Singing Angels Quartet. I asked the organizers too and said they will come later. I kept on looking around the venue to see the details closely of the stage, projectors, cakes, bands, and tech team. Minutes later, I decided to take a picture in the photobooth. How lucky I am to see the four of them there too! I approached and talked to them too. They dressed so beautifully for the event with those floral cocktail dresses they wore. They have light make-up too and their hairstyles were neatly done. Indeed, they dolled up for the event. I thanked them personally and held their hand. I said their love for Maine is very heartwarming. They held my hand tighter and smiled at me too. I told them to enjoy the night as we all celebrate together for Maine. They reiterated their support and love for Maine as they are very happy to do so. They told me how thankful they are too for the organizers who contacted them and for everyone who worked hard for this event. Too bad I was too excited that time I forgot to take pictures with them!

  How was their encounter with Maine?

I love how they did their rendition of “The Way You Look Tonight”. It is a very soothing and lovely version as how I gave these details from the part 2 of this blog series. Maine stood up after they performed and went down the stage. She held their hands and talked to them. I saw how the faces of the Singing Angels Quartet brightened up in that encounter. Maine hugged them too. She smiled widely as they all posed for a picture. It felt so touching as I saw that encounter personally---four talented angels with pure hearts having the experience of performing, talking, and hugging the role model who they both look up to and treat as a friend. To see Maine drew herself closer to them is a treasure to sight. I do not want to ask what did Maine said to them for I want it to remain private and special for them.

 What did this storyteller learn from them?

The Singing Angels Quartet namely Maricor Book, Mary Danelle Melgar, and sisters Camille Michaela Mercado and Czarinah Michaela Mercado reminded me a quotation from one of my favorite books, The Little Prince. “What is essential is invisible to the eye.” as Antoine de Saint-Exupery wrote in this book. The Singing Angels Quartet are visually impaired but they saw Maine’s heart. I have friends who keep on telling me blind people have heightened senses that makes them feel more than the stimuli in their environment but also with the people around them. It feels so precious to see their unconditional support for Maine even if they cannot see her by sight but they feel her heart.

I do hope and pray that was just their first encounter with her and in the future, they will reminisce the #EnchantressMaine23 with none other than talking heartily to Maine herself.
