AGRIPPA: I have not spoken to you, because I am aware, that my feelings for you are hopeless. OCTAVIA: That's for me to say, isn't it? AGRIPPA: No, it's not. My father was a nobody. His father was a slave. I have not a drop of good blood in me. OCTAVIA: So you have risen purely by merit, surely that is commendable in its way. AGRIPPA: You are sister to Gaius Octavian Caesar. You will not be married to a commendable son of a nobody. OCTAVIA: I'll marry who I like. AGRIPPA: No, you won't. You will marry some useful nobleman of your brother's choosing. ... AGRIPPA: I'm sorry. I've been torturing myself these last months. I cannot... I cannot bear to- OCTAVIA: Don't. [AND THEN, THEY KISS, KISS, KISS]

The way this sounds like a perfectly general philosophical aphorism but if you consumed enough enlightenment drama you realise it's actually a well-aimed call-out of a *certain* former friend --

You know, every time I watch your practice clips, I only see your effort and determination. If you didn't really love it, you wouldn't be working so hard for it.

The world is a stage
you can control—
as playwright:
the story,
the plot,
the ending,
and the characters.
But you cannot
control the function of it—
the lights,
the sounds,
the audience.
And that’s life.
– Laura Chouette

"They’re saying all this is your will."
Meridian, the Philosopher – played by Annette Badland
Tumblr media
In your benevolence, the Philosopher appeals for A sign of your loving indulgence.
@merelymatt says, what can I say about Annette Badland? A legend; a pro; we're so lucky to have her. Her first take was prepared and flawless, then director Rob gave her a different direction to try, and her second take was as flawless as if she'd known what he'd suggest and rehearsed that too. She just flipped a switch and immediately became this alternative version of the character, without a stumble. It's all the team could talk about for the rest of the day.
