How to Ensure Quality and Authenticity in PhD Dissertation Assistance in Mumbai
Completing a PhD dissertation is a monumental achievement that requires years of hard work, critical thinking, and substantial research. However, the process of writing a dissertation can be highly demanding, and many students turn to dissertation assistance services to guide them through this complex process. In Mumbai, where the academic competition is fierce, students often look for professional help to ensure that their dissertations meet the highest standards. While these services can be incredibly helpful, it is essential to ensure the quality and authenticity of the assistance received. This article provides insights into how students can ensure they are getting high-quality, authentic dissertation help in Mumbai.
At PhD Thesis World, we understand how important it is to produce a dissertation that is both rigorous and authentic. Below are several strategies to help students ensure that their PhD dissertation assistance is of the highest quality.
1. Choose Established and Reputable Services
When looking for PhD Dissertation Assistance in Mumbai, one of the most crucial steps is to choose a reputable and established service provider. A well-known service often has a track record of delivering high-quality work, adhering to academic standards, and maintaining ethical practices.
How to Ensure Quality:
Research the Company’s Background: Look for services that have been in business for several years and have positive reviews from students who have successfully completed their dissertations with their help.
Check Client Testimonials: Reliable dissertation services usually have client reviews or testimonials available on their website. Read through these reviews to assess the company’s reputation and the quality of their work.
Evaluate Portfolio: Many dissertation assistance services provide samples of their past work. Review these samples to get a sense of the service’s writing quality, depth of research, and overall presentation.
At PhD Thesis World, we take pride in our reputation for delivering high-quality dissertations that meet the academic requirements of universities in Mumbai and beyond.
2. Ensure Expertise in Your Field of Study
Dissertation assistance is highly specialized, and the quality of support depends largely on the expertise of the consultants involved. It is essential to ensure that the service provider has experts who are knowledgeable in your specific field of study, as this will guarantee that the advice and assistance provided is relevant, informed, and academically sound.
How to Ensure Quality:
Verify Consultant Credentials: Ensure that the consultants at the service provider hold advanced degrees (preferably PhDs) in the subject area related to your research. This ensures that they understand the nuances of the field and can provide expert advice.
Ask About Experience: Consultancies with professionals who have experience advising PhD students in your discipline will likely provide more relevant and insightful guidance.
Field-Specific Research: Make sure that the service provider is familiar with research trends and methodologies specific to your field. For example, if you’re in a field like social sciences, business, or healthcare, the service should have experience with the research methods, literature, and data collection techniques relevant to that discipline.
At PhD Thesis World, our team includes subject matter experts with deep knowledge in a variety of fields, ensuring that students receive high-quality, specialized support tailored to their dissertation topic.
3. Check for Customization and Personalization
Quality PhD dissertation assistance services should offer personalized help that is tailored to your specific needs, rather than using generic templates or pre-written content. A personalized approach ensures that the final product reflects your research interests, academic voice, and original ideas.
How to Ensure Quality:
Discuss Your Dissertation Goals: Before hiring any PhD Dissertation Assistance in Mumbai service, have a thorough discussion about your dissertation goals, research topic, and methodology. Make sure they are willing to customize their services to your needs.
Avoid Plagiarism: It is crucial to choose a service that guarantees originality. Some services may resort to using plagiarized content or recycled dissertations, which can have severe academic consequences.
Custom Content Creation: Ensure that the service creates original content for your dissertation. Ask them to explain how they approach writing, researching, and structuring the dissertation to ensure that everything is tailored to your specific requirements.
At PhD Thesis World, we provide fully customized dissertation services, ensuring that every dissertation is unique, original, and aligned with the student’s research focus and academic voice.
4. Look for Transparent Communication and Process
Transparent communication and a clear process are crucial to ensuring that dissertation assistance services maintain high standards of quality and authenticity. When students have open and ongoing communication with their dissertation consultants, it ensures that the final work is in line with their expectations and academic requirements.
How to Ensure Quality:
Clarify the Process: Before engaging with any service, make sure you understand the process. A reputable service will outline the entire process, including timelines, milestones, and deliverables. It should also specify how frequently you will be updated about the progress of your dissertation.
Request Regular Updates: High-quality services offer regular updates on your dissertation’s progress. Request periodic drafts or outlines so you can ensure that the work is on track and meets your academic requirements.
Be Part of the Process: Choose a service that involves you in every step of the process, from selecting the research topic to reviewing the final draft. This ensures that your dissertation reflects your intellectual contributions and vision.
At PhD Thesis World, we offer transparent communication, where students are actively involved in every phase of the dissertation process, ensuring that their needs and expectations are met.
5. Guarantee of Plagiarism-Free Work
Plagiarism is a serious academic offense that can lead to severe consequences, including expulsion from academic programs. It is critical to ensure that the dissertation assistance service guarantees 100% original content, free from plagiarism.
How to Ensure Authenticity:
Request Plagiarism Reports: A reputable service will be willing to provide a plagiarism report generated through reliable plagiarism detection tools like Turnitin or Copyscape. This ensures that your dissertation is free from any form of plagiarism.
Content Verification: Ask the service provider how they ensure the originality of the content. Good services have strict protocols to prevent any form of copying, from proper citation to the use of original data and research.
At PhD Thesis World, we ensure that all dissertations are 100% plagiarism-free, using advanced plagiarism detection tools to verify the originality of the content before submission.
6. Professional Editing and Proofreading
Even the most well-written dissertation can benefit from professional editing and proofreading. Dissertation assistance services that offer high-quality editing ensure that the final document is clear, concise, and free of errors, improving the overall quality and readability of your work.
How to Ensure Quality:
Request for Editing Services: Look for dissertation services that include professional editing as part of their package. This includes proofreading for grammatical errors, improving clarity and flow, and ensuring that the document meets academic standards.
Ensure Formatting Expertise: Make sure the service provides expertise in academic formatting styles such as APA, MLA, Chicago, or any specific style required by your university. Proper formatting is essential for the final presentation of your dissertation.
At PhD Thesis World, our expert editors ensure that your dissertation is error-free, well-structured, and formatted according to your university's requirements.
7. Adherence to Timelines
A high-quality dissertation assistance service should be committed to meeting deadlines. Timely completion is crucial to ensuring that you have enough time for revisions and final submission. Late deliveries can jeopardize your academic schedule and potentially delay your graduation.
How to Ensure Quality:
Agree on Deadlines: Before engaging with a service, discuss deadlines and milestones. Ensure that the service commits to a timeline that allows for ample time to complete your dissertation and for revisions.
Track Progress: Choose a service that provides progress tracking, so you can stay updated on the status of your dissertation and ensure it is delivered on time.
At PhD Thesis World, we pride ourselves on adhering to agreed-upon deadlines, ensuring that students receive their dissertations in a timely manner.
Conclusion
Ensuring the quality and authenticity of PhD dissertation assistance in Mumbai is vital for academic success. By carefully selecting reputable services, ensuring access to subject-matter experts, requesting personalized help, and verifying plagiarism-free content, students can ensure that their dissertations are not only of the highest quality but also academically honest and original.
At PhD Thesis World, we provide all of these assurances and more, delivering customized, plagiarism-free, and expertly written dissertations. With our transparent communication, rigorous quality control, and adherence to deadlines, we support students in producing authentic dissertations that meet the highest academic standards.

You have questions! We might have answers.
What is this collection?
As Maria puts it: this collection is a critical look at some of the things that we, the editors, think have made CQL such a hit around the world. Of course, part of that success comes from the webnovel MDZS and the show CQL themselves—we love the characters, the mystery, and the drama, who doesn’t?! However, the authors in our book also look at topics like translating danmei (both officially and unofficially), adapting danmei for new audiences, and interacting with fandoms and fanworks. The larger argument of the book is that all of these things played a huge role in CQL’s visibility and success, and we wanted to start making those moving pieces visible, especially for audiences who mainly watched CQL in translation.
You keep using the word “academic”—what does that mean, exactly?
Maria: Ok, not to get pedantic here, but this actually touches on some things that I’m really excited about for the book. Traditionally, academic work is written by people who have a deep expertise in the subject (signified by having a PhD and doing specific kinds of research), and then the work itself is peer-reviewed (i.e., sent to other experts in the field for them to evaluate whether it’s sound, original, and interesting enough to publish, without knowing who wrote it). And both of these things are true about our book—our authors have deep knowledge and the book was peer reviewed—but also. We specifically asked for chapters from younger scholars and from fans who also have deep knowledge about topics that academia doesn’t always know or value enough, and we include an interview from the fan-translator K. who did the Exiled Rebels translation. So the hope is that: this book is academic, and also—more!
Who are you?
Yue studies adaptation, fantasy, and popular culture texts using a feminist lens. She wrote an early, influential article about danmei adaptations and also has a book about feminist adaptations of Chinese fantasy.
Maria studies fanworks, contemporary fantasy, and genre literature. She’s scrambling to finish her dissertation right now.
How were the chapter spotlights chosen?
Voluntarily! The concept of a small social media promo was kicked around by some of the contributors and those interested in the idea filled out a short interview with what they wanted to share. We'll be posting about 2 introductions and 2 spotlights a day for the next week or so!
Who's running this social media campaign anyway?
Not the publishers! A few enthusiastic collection contributors got together and, with the assistance of the editors, have put this promotion together. We do not in any way represent Peter Lang in an official capacity! We just worked hard and wanted to share. :)
Are you making any money off of royalties from this book?
LOL not even remotely
What about this promotion?
also no. alas
Where can I find this book?
You can find our listing on Peter Lang’s website here. As for other retailers, a quick search should turn us up!
How can I access this book if I cannot buy it from Peter Lang / [book retailer of choice]?
As collection editors and contributors who signed a legal agreement with Peter Lang, we have granted Peter Lang exclusive right and license to edit, adapt, publish, reproduce, distribute, display, and store our contributions, and we must cooperate fully with the Publisher if the Publisher believes a third party is infringing or is likely to infringe copyright in the contribution.
That being said, these are academic papers, which means that contributors may make copies of the contribution for classroom teaching use! (These copies may not be included in course pack material for onward sale by libraries and institutions). Of course, any linking, collection or aggregation of chapters from the same volume is strictly prohibited.

frankly super uncomfortable have “neurodiversity affirming” (now use as meaningless buzzword but demand be treat as this radical thing) be associate with “nonspeaking not nonverbal put/ nonspeaking right nonverbal ableist wrong” so hard two become synonymous. be treat as, only way be neurodiversity affirming is say nonspeaking & never say nonverbal. that MUST only ever say nonspeaking to be neurodiversity affirming. that say nonverbal put you exact same equally as bad as ableist oppressor power holders who actively not give & deny & exclude people who not able mouth speak education & rights & autonomy & humanity.
really have nothing unreasonable or bias against apraxic nonspeakers, or term nonspeaking. really don’t. really do believe they have valuable thing to say n important listen.
but it get really really tiring, n traumatic (not use this word lightly), be constantly screamed at, cursed at, insulted, mocked, called names, doubted, disbelieved, fake claimed, abused because dare casually call self nonverbal without go on 1000 word essay on why (& often times even with that 1000 word essay), phd dissertation on history of these two terms n definitions n histories n uses. to point of every time be outside circle of people who willing understand me (person with cognitive & language disability), severe anxiety & fear & post-traumatic stress spiral of, “can say am nonverbal? should? that get me strangers abuse? should preemptively explain? carefully word it? more detail. more detail.” over one of my most important identity & label. even simple “am nonverbal not nonspeaking” invite people (group that famously describe self as literal & not read into subtext) accusatory question me “why you ableist piece of shit distance self from nonspeaking people, you clearly think people who not able mouth speak incompetent” not expecting answer, because they already made up one for me, already spoke for me, a person who not mouth speak (& struggle w overall communication) they claim advocate for.
n same time cannot pretend that term nonspeaking, nonspeaking advocacy from many nonspeakers, & nonspeaking advocacy from not-nonspeakers, so closely tied with ableism by action of people who use it that it become part of definition, defining pillar of activism. cannot pretend “am just can’t speak but my mind intact (am very intelligent can write just fine)” is value neutral not-ableist sentence. cannot pretend all that ableism against people with intellectual disability (yes, people w correctly diagnosed ID exist) & people with language disorder not exist.
if you can’t separate term nonverbal from it’s ableist misuse history, you not get to have problem with me refuse call self nonspeaking because how so many people use ableism to fundamentally define it. n unlike you, at least am able recognize term nonspeaking, neutral.
am super uncomfortable with “neurodiversity affirming” when one pillar of it is define me out of existence n label me n people who support me as ableist & same amount of evil as my oppressors. is to use me as scapegoat. scapegoat for other people trauma while create trauma for me. whose neurodiversity we affirming?
“nothing about us without us” who the second us? is it actually us, or do you just mean you?
“language important” so “say nonspeaking not nonverbal FOR ALL” but when am push back against it ask be personally called nonverbal ask not use term nonverbal as scapegoat ask please not demonize term nonverbal, suddenly am “too hang up on semantics” and “there real oppression other than argue over online terms” (as if be denied literal actively barred kicked out from community isn’t one) and “can’t speak for everyone”
when these people the one with platform and ability, shaping public views, shaping assistive tech and therapies that am need, even advocating to shape & shaping policies n legislatures.
sure do hope am included in those.
[nonverbal = not able mouth speak. all the time only. not by choice. not sometimes. not temporary. not episode. not “go nonverbal.”]
#can u tell it a trauma? write over n over again about it because keep get triggered. by own brain. by it happen again in outside world.#nonverbal#actually nonverbal#nonspeaking#actually neurodivergent#neurodivergent#nd#actually nd#not autism exclusive but tag bc most people do it also autistic#actually autistic#actuallyautistic#autism#autistic#loaf screm#long post

Eva Beatrice Dykes (13 August 1893 – 29 October 1986) was a prominent educator and the third black American woman to be awarded a PhD.
Dykes was born in Washington, D.C., on August 13, 1893, the daughter of Martha Ann (née Howard) and James Stanley Dykes. She attended M Street High School (later renamed Dunbar High School). She graduated summa cum laude from Howard University with a B.A. in 1914. While attending Howard University, where several family members had studied, Eva was initiated into the Alpha chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. At the end of her last semester she was awarded Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated's first official scholarship. After a short stint of teaching at Walden University in Nashville, Tennessee, Dykes attended Radcliffe College graduating magna cum laude with a second B.A. in 1917 and a M.A in 1918. While at Radcliffe she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. In 1920 Dykes began teaching at Dunbar High School, and in 1921 she received a PhD from Radcliffe (now a part of Harvard University). Her dissertation was titled “Pope and His influence in America from 1715 to 1815”, and explored the attitudes of Alexander Pope towards slavery and his influence on American writers. Dykes was the first black American woman to complete the requirements for a doctoral degree, however, because Radcliffe College held its graduation ceremonies later in the spring, she was the third to graduate, behind Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander (1921, University of Pennsylvania) and Georgiana R. Simpson (1921, University of Chicago).
After her graduation from Radcliffe in 1921, Dykes continued to teach at Dunbar High School until 1929 when she returned to Howard University as a member of the English Faculty. An excellent teacher, Dykes won a number of teaching awards during her 15 years of service at Howard University. Her publications include Readings from Negro Authors for Schools and Colleges co-authored with Lorenzo Dow Turner and Otelia Cromwell (1931) and The Negro in English Romantic Thought: Or a Study in Sympathy for the Oppressed (1942). In 1934 Dykes began writing a column in the Seventh-day Adventist periodical Message Magazine, this continued until 1984.
In 1920 Dykes joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and in 1944 she joined the faculty of the then small and unaccredited Seventh-day Adventist Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama, as the Chair of the English Department. She was the first staff member at Oakwood to hold a doctoral qualification and was instrumental in assisting the college to gain accreditation. Dykes retired in 1968 but returned to Oakwood to teach in 1970 and continued until 1975. In 1973 the Oakwood College library was named in her honor and in 1980 she was made a Professor Emerita. In 1975 the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church presented Dykes with a Citation of Excellence honouring her for an outstanding contribution to Seventh-day Adventist education. Dykes died in Huntsville on October 29, 1986, at the age of 93.

The Siren, or The Heart of the Matter
Chapter Four: The Beginning, or Tin Man, Beefcake, Man Bun, and Natasha
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x OFC
Warnings: language, eventual smut (but not in this chapter), fluff, eventual canon-typical violence (but not in this chapter) MINORS DNI. A/N: This chapter is a short one - it just felt like the right place to stop - so I'll be posting the next one right after it. Now that I've got this story started, I'm going to try to post regularly every Monday - Marvel Mondays! I hope you are all having a splendid day, wherever you are <3
Summary: Cleo is interrogated as the team tries to discover just how much she knows.
Chapter Directory
The questions come quick and emotionless, only from Black Widow, and it seems a bit like we’re playing a high-stakes pingpong game. Between her demeanor and the one-way mirror, I feel like I’m being interrogated. Maybe I am. She’s clearly done this before.
“What’s your full name?”
“Cleo Sophia Blake. Where am I?”
“The medical wing of a secure building, the exact location is classified. What is your occupation?”
I get the sense that she’s starting easy, trying to get me comfortable. I hate that it’s working. “I’m a PhD candidate and grad assistant. I teach some classes, but I’m also still completing my degree. Why am I here?”
“We’re still determining your threat level. What did you do yesterday before coming home?”
I can’t help myself. “Threat level? This is insane!”
She raises an eyebrow and simply repeats her question.
“Ugh, fine. I was at the library, doing some research for my dissertation. What do you mean by ‘threat’?”
“We’re still trying to figure that out. And the library closed an hour and twenty-three minutes before you left.”
She wants me to know how carefully they’d been watching me. I narrow my eyes. “That’s not a question. And why ask me anything when you clearly know all the answers already?”
“I want to know if you’ll tell the truth,” she says simply. “I’ll give you that one for free. Now what were you doing at the library if it was already closed?”
“If anyone at the university asks, I was sitting on a bench outside reading a book I brought from home.” I pause. “But since you probably already know, I have a friend who works there, and she let me stay until they finished cleaning up. My requests from rare book storage took a while to come out and I needed the extra time.”
I take a moment, thinking of what to ask next, and she lets me. “What name do you like to go by? I hate spiders and I’m tired of thinking ‘The Black Widow’ in my mind every time I look at you.” If she can try to build rapport, so can I. It’s in my best interest for at least one of these goons to like me.
She seems surprised by my question, and maybe a little pleased. “You can call me Natasha, if I can call you Cleo.” I nod. “What were you researching last night?”
Maybe it’s working - she gave me a timeline for how long I’ve been here, and I didn’t even have to ask. “I’m studying Greek myths and their origins, trying to trace the stories we know today to their earliest written records. I had requested some books in Ancient Greek to translate from another facility, and my advisor pulled some strings to get them sent to our library for a brief period of study. So I was reading those, plus one I think a friend threw in as a joke. What did Tin Man mean when he said an apartment building got leveled?” I ignore Stark’s outraged hey, never looking away from Natasha.
She stifles a laugh, schooling her face back into her serious mask. “All I can tell you at this time is that there was an incident at your residence as we were leaving. What -”
I cut her off; I can’t help it. “Oh my god, was anyone hurt?” I sit up taller, my pulse racing.
“Nobody was harmed, we’d evacuated the building before you got there. Now -”
My mind is still racing. “Well, Mrs. Nakamura has like five cats - don’t tell our landlord - and I think the kids downstairs were hiding a lizard or a snake or something. Oh god, if anything happened to them…” I trail off, covering my face with my hands.
Natasha gently pulls my arms down, meeting my eyes. “Any pets, even the… illicit ones, were evacuated as well. Barnes saw to that,” she gestures to the Winter Soldier.
I huff a sigh of relief. “Thanks, Man Bun.” He scoffs, Stark laughs. “Where are they now?”
Natasha shakes her head. “You owe me three, kid,” she says, though not unkindly.
“I said you could call me Cleo, not ‘kid,’ and I’m pretty sure we’re basically the same age, but fine. Go ahead.”
Her eyes crinkle. “Okay, Cleo, tell me about the book you said was a joke.”
I frown, trying to remember the already hazy moment. “I - I don’t remember much, to be honest. It was hard to read - it definitely wasn’t a language I’m familiar with. But it must have been close, maybe rooted in Latin or something, because I remember recognizing the word ‘Atlantis.’” My skin tingles a little even saying the word out loud, and I fight a shiver.
“That’s all I got, though. I think I fell asleep reading it. When I woke up, Inez had already packed up the books and was telling me to skedaddle. I walked home, and that’s when Beefcake over there mugged me and the night went to hell.”
Natasha whips her head to Captain America, who has his hands up defensively. “I did not mug you, you threw your wallet at me and ran off!”
I frown at him. “Do you still have it?” He nods, pulling it out and putting it on a little table near my bed somewhat sheepishly. “You left the scene with my wallet - you mugged me, Captain Boyscout.”
Stark chuckles. “Okay, I like her again.”
Natasha ignores him, getting back to business. “Does that mean anything to you? Atlantis?”
I rub my eyes, feeling the weight of the past day (and weeks and months and years) pressing down on me suddenly. “No. I mean, sort of. Maybe. It’s complicated.”
She leans in, looking at me with sincerity, and goddammit if I don’t trust her. “I’m pretty good at complicated.”
I glance around the room. Stark is doing something on his phone - a model infinitely fancier than my own cracked piece of shit - and Captain America is looking over his shoulder. The Winter Soldier, though, is looking directly at me. I meet his gaze and the intensity there captures me for just a moment before I chicken out and look down at my hands.
“I’ll tell you, but they have to leave.”
Natasha looks at me with almost gentleness. “I’ll just have to brief them on it later.”
I roll my eyes, but maybe… maybe a little part of me wants to tell them. To tell someone. Maybe they injected me with some kind of truth-serum, or maybe I’m just fucking tired of carrying it. If you can’t afford therapy, why not trauma-dump on some Avengers?
“The first thing you have to understand is that no matter how crazy all this sounds, I’m not. Crazy. I just… really loved my dad.”

Please do a whole post about phd applications, funding applications, fellowships, TAships etc. Would love your take on it. Thanks
I'm chronically horrible at responding to asks, so this is coming later than you probably expected!
For context, I'm now a second year PhD art history student about to take her doctoral (comprehensive) exams in April. I applied for PhD programs during the last semester of my master's program, which was a terminal degree through a different university than the one I currently attend.
I applied to two PhD programs in the United States and two in the United Kingdom: the processes are different, particularly when it comes to funding. The former will automatically consider you for funding and it's expected, at least in the humanities, that they will grant you tuition remission and a stipend for at least four years (potentially more, depending on your particular program). It's also possible to win additional fellowships, either through your university or a third party. For example, I have departmental funding (ie. a stipend that I receive for being a Graduate Assistant) and an outside fellowship from my university's Graduate School. My department applied for that fellowship on my behalf before I even enrolled. The other American university to which I applied also offered me tuition remission and a stipend, but it was less than the university I currently attend.
Two general notes about funding in the United States: (1) it often changes to account for rising cost of living but that does not necessarily mean you will be making a living wage, and (2) it often changes depending on whether your school has a Union. Graduate workers at my university are currently working to unionize, which would not only guarantee a living wage for union members but also offer protections for international students and student parents. There are a lot of benefits but the TLDR for funding is that unionizing often means the difference between $28,000 and $45,000 yearly stipend (see this article from the Boston Herald about BU's graduate student union). Graduate Assistants are often not allowed to hold a second job outside of the university and it's also difficult to do so when you are (a) working, (b) completing coursework, and (c) independently researching. My museum fellowship, which I'm due to begin in a couple days, jeopardized my funding status and I had to fight my university for them not to take away my fellowship. It ultimately worked out because I had my department chair's support but not all students are similarly supported—and not all departments are willing to advocate for their students.
Pivoting to UK schools: the TLDR is that they offer very little funding for international students and the funding that is available, either through the institutions themselves or outside organizations, is often not enough to cover the cost of living. Tuition is largely cheaper than in America but the difference was not significant enough for it to factor into my decision. If you're interested in more detail, I'd recommend reaching out to @therepublicofletters who actually attends a UK institution. She can also tell you more about how their programs are structured. Unlike American PhD programs—which involve at least two years of coursework, doctoral exams, and graduate assistantships before defending your prospectus and beginning dissertation research—UK programs ask you to apply with a prospectus that you will use as the basis for dissertation research that you begin immediately upon entry. The difference is that American programs typically take 5-7 years to complete whereas UK ones are only 3-4 years. While this may seem convenient in the short term, I was advised that American institutions (museums, universities, etc) often prefer PhDs from American institutions because of the extra work completed.
Setting aside this technical information, I chose the four programs to which I applied based on vibes. I had a master list of schools and advisors and I contacted each one to see if we fit in terms of academic interests and personalities. I did not want to work with an advisor I didn't like and who didn't like me—or who had so many students that they had no time for me. Aside from speaking with them personally, I also reached out to their current advisees: students will often give you a more honest perspective on faculty and the department as a whole. I would almost lend more weight to what the students say than any of the professors because they are and/or will be your peers. They are also the people who will give you the most honest information about how professors and the department view students of color, women, queer students, etc. Art history and the humanities are fairly white, straight, and male dominated, so it's important to get a read on how non-normative (for lack of a better collective term) individuals are treated. I used this information to narrow down my master list to four schools, each of which I would be happy to attend. Whether I was admitted to one or to all four, I would have a place to go where I would be content and able to find community.
This is a personal note but something to consider when it comes to advisors is gender. That should not be a determining factor but I realized after committing to my current school that this is the first time I've worked with a male advisor. I love him dearly and he is one of the most encouraging scholars I have met but there have been occasions where there is a disconnect based on life experience. That said, I know many people who have had no issues at all!
Throughout this whole process, the name value of the schools was functionally irrelevant. In my experience—and that of the numerous individuals who advised me during the application process—your advisor is far more important than your school. While this will necessarily vary by discipline, you want to work with someone who has connections and/or knows how to network. For example, an older scholar will likely know everyone and their mother whereas a younger scholar will know fewer people but likely be more present at conferences, etc.
In the end, what matters most is your happiness and stability. Will you like working with your chosen advisor? Will you like taking classes in other disciplines within your department? Will you be able to make friends and/or have civil relationships with other graduate students (ie. will people steal books you need because they know you need them, like at Columbia)? Can you afford to live in whatever city in which you school is located? Are they paying you a living wage and/or offering you alternate opportunities to apply for funding?
I chose my school based on the graduate community, my advisors (I now have two), and the funding package. There have been incidental issues that I could not have anticipated, but on the whole, I do not regret my decision because I prioritized my happiness when I was applying and did not make decisions based on what I thought other people would want. This is a huge commitment and you need to be self-motivated, to rely on your love of the subject, to make it through the hard times.
My last bit of advice, which I received from my undergraduate advisor: don't go into debt for art history! If a program isn't paying you and/or isn't paying you enough, then they're not worth your time. Know your worth and ask for what you deserve, never be afraid to negotiate funding.
Let me know if y'all have any other questions! This was a long one but I hope it was helpful.

I’ve decided to add a collection of my smutty professor fics, since this list will definitely keep on growing. Please remember that I am not allowing you to edit or copy those fics to other platforms.
Professor Aaron Hotchner
Profiling 101 (Series, Prof!Hotchner)
The reader enrolls in professor Hotchner's class "Profiling 101", a man she has always looked up to, a man who treats her like an asshole from day one. Will her need for academic validation manage to push the two closer together? Will her bright mind push her into the world of Aaron Hotchner and the BAU team? Will he manage to keep his distance before the world he tries to protect her from can get its grasp on her?
Professor Tom Holland
Tides of Drowned Affections (fake dating, smut)
The reader has never been close with her family, but when she's ordered to come home for her sister's wedding, (y/n) is in need of a helping hand. Or: When a panic attack is the reason Professor Holland takes on the role of the reader's boyfriend.
Distraction (smut)
After years of being professor Holland’s student, the reader finally finishes her studies and joins the team as a young professor – allowing the two to finally give into their teasing.
The Painting (smut)
Professor Holland takes his students on a trip, exploring art galleries, admiring paintings he can barely spare any attention to, mind fully focused on her, the student he found himself. drawn to like a moth to a flame
2am Texts (smut)
An unknown number texts Tom in the middle of the night, forcing his attention away from grading his stack of exams. And somehow he finds himself obsessed with the stranger that keeps holding contact with him.
Lovers like Orpheus and Eurydice (smut)
Professor Holland hates the reader, and she hates him. But when she applies for the position as his TA, things start to change and somewhere along the way - between an argument and spending the night together - they fall for one another.
Professor Tom Riddle
All to myself (smut)
Another student tries to touch the reader, so Professor Riddle has to remind his TA that she is his, only his. Pwp
Professor Benedict Cumberbatch
Summer Retreat (smut)
Mean prof!Benedict and the reader are forced to cross paths on their vacation, the vacation he used to read her dissertation.
Lucky Shirt (smut)
Professor Cumberbatch was perfect. He was sweet, supportive, ever-willing to help. He was attentive and loved to praise your achievements. It came to no surprise that you had ended up trying and succeeding at becoming his favourite student. The two of you had become an unstoppable duo, however, could there be more than mere passion for academia behind it?
Abide by my rules (smut)
Professor Cumberbatch can’t quite stop thinking about the most mediocre and obnoxious student he has ever had to supervise.
The secrets our notes tell (smut)
The reader had always crushed on professor Cumberbatch, the man that treated her without any kindness dripping from his words, clearly signaling his annoyance with the woman. And yet, both are forced to work together, but perhaps he’s the reason for that forming teamwork after all.
Tea and Cologne don’t mix (smut)
Professor Cumberbatch has always admired the reader’s intelligence and as she joins him as his new TA it doesn’t take long for them to give into the pull they feel inside their burning systems.
Professor Tommy Shelby
Drunken Longings and Sober Actions (modern!prof!Tommy, smut)
The reader takes on the position of Professor Shelby's assistant, the man who is also the advisor of her PhD thesis. How long can the two endure to be around one another before they finally give into their longing?
The Book Thief (modern!prof!Tommy, smut)
Professor Shelby is taking his students on a trip, a trip that ends up with his book stolen by the reader – perhaps this is what they’ve needed to finally get closer.
The Vote -Professor!Tommy (smut)
Another vote is coming up, allowing the students to pick their favorite professor. He would always win, leaving her behind on 2nd place, but she’s determined to win this year. But Tommy is determined himself, though not about winning, but about finally pulling her in.
Sharp Like Tybalt’s Blade (Professor Tommy, smut)
Professor Shelby and the reader fuck in his office.
Professor Carlisle Cullen
Ruin Me (prof!Carlisle smut)
Professor Cullen eats the reader out after coming clean with his feelings.
Teaching Assistant (prof!Carlisle smut)
This is basically pwp, the reader helps Carlisle grade some essays and they fuck.
Professor Draco Malfoy
Professor Malfoy (smut)
The reader works as Professor Malfoy's TA, a man she had been crushing on ever since meeting him at Hogwarts all these years ago; but kind of just pwp
Hate Me - Professor x Professor (smut)
(Y/n) had always hated Draco, or at least that’s what she likes to tell herself. But now they have to share a classroom, teaching a lesson together, forcing the two to cooperate.
Darkness Whispers To Us (smut)
Plain porn, they fuck in his classroom
Professor Damon Salvatore / Klaus Mikaelson
Just A Dream - Prof!Klaus x fem!reader x Prof!Damon (smut)
Maybe she shouldn’t have told her friends about the things she’d like to experience with her two hot professors. But maybe it was time for her dream to become real
Professor Loki
On My Mind (professor x student smut)
The reader drunk texts her hot professor - who is awfully delighted by the picture she has messaged him. Perhaps (y/n)’s drunken self didn’t embarrass herself as much as she had feared.
Beautiful like Halley‘s Comet - Prof!Loki (smut)
Professor Laufeyson saves the reader from her ex-boyfriend, followed by some filthy smut in his classroom.

Tuesday!
I continue to be really impressed by this exercise class - I was the only one who signed up for my timeslot today (it varies week to week, apparently) and she messaged me just to make sure I was okay with having a private lesson instead of being with the group! No extra charge, no cancellation, just a great one-on-one discussion and class. Got some great advice on improving my push-up form and protecting my dang hyperextending knees. And Clara got to roll around on my yoga mat to her heart's content!
Off to work! I futz around a bit and realize belatedly I was supposed to be in an hour earlier than I thought, so I have to take a rideshare to campus instead of the bus, whoops. I get 100% free public transit through work (as someone who's ridden city buses to school/work since I was 10, this still blows my mind!), so I try not to sweat it when I have the odd Lyft/Uber trip since my transportation budget would be $0 otherwise. Nice to get to campus with time to spare!
First up is the faculty candidate talk - he does great! Very funny and also full of great science. He looks a little frazzled afterwards, but a couple colleagues and I scoop him up and bundle him out for bahn mi and soup. We stop for coffee on the way back and show him our favorite view on campus, which actually floors him (we live in a very, very pretty part of the world!). There's a conversation that reminds me that we maybe don't all have the same experiences, because everyone starts sharing what they did after finishing their PhD dissertations, and it's like, oh, I hiked in the Alps and spent some time in Switzerland, or, ah yes, I traveled Southeast Asia for three months. When I defended, I did get to visit a few friends across the US, which was AMAZING, but really it was just stalling a couple weeks while I waited for my furniture to reach my new home and stressing over where my paycheck was coming from while my visa stuff was being processed. Slightly less exciting!
We get in a little late, so colleagues and I sneak into the back row of the faculty meeting (we have about 20 faculty members, so our tardiness is definitely noted, whoops). There's a very silly moment where our chair is trying his darnedest to explain this strategic planning thing, and one colleague sitting next to me waves at another to pull down the blinds so we're not getting sun in our eyes. Colleague at the window makes eye contact, adopts a "what? huh? what's that you want?" look, and starts inching the blinds down, pauses to pretend to look confused, then puts it back up, frowns at it like that's not quite right, then puts it back down. Colleague starts waving and pointing downward more and more exaggeratedly as window-colleague grins more and more evilly and pretends he's never seen a window or a set of blinds in his life. We're all giggling in the back, worse than freshmen, and get a glare from the chair. Shush, you miscreants.
(I'm reminded of sitting in as a graduate student on a faculty meeting and being really intimidated until I got there and realized everyone was practicing swiveling on the fancy new chairs. It was all fun and games until someone gave an emeritus faculty a little push and he slowly drifted out the door with a quiet "nooooooooooo")
Anyway, the meeting itself is probably full of useful information, but I make the mistake of checking my e-mail and my to-do list grows nine items during that hour. Ugh. Can't quite manage to be in a bad mood, though - when I get back to my office I remember I picked up a slice of white chocolate banana bread at the coffee shop! This will fuel my remaining e-mails. I close my office door (I like to have an open-door policy, but my cheat code is occasionally locking the door and putting a post-it note up that says "I am here - please knock!") and grab my headphones to get an e-mail montage soundtrack going.
Okay! Item one: reply to my undergrad research assistant's e-mail proposing an abstract for her symposium submission. I give her some suggestions and help her out with accessing some data about Scandinavian thunderstorms she may want to include in her studies.
Next! I'm working on getting my budget settled for this wildfire project and the numbers just keep not quite numbering. I got an e-mail that I think summarizes what's going on, so I need to go in and fix it, plus add wording from the grants manager. It's so much better than I thought it would be, since it's just a typo rather than an error with unattributed funding. Phew. Get that done and sent off.
Next! In the aforementioned grants discussion, there's some weird indirect funding stuff going on that I need to clarify since my grants are starting to run dry and still need to fund 2.5 months of my summer salary. I send three paragraphs and then kinda give up and also link the e-mail address of the grants coordinator at the parent institution that will be disbursing the subcontract I'll be paid under. I know less than nothing about this financial stuff, man, but I'm trying my best.
Flights are being booked for my trip out to speak on a panel and visit a university halfway across the country! Exciting! I approve the flights they've chosen for me (direct!!!!).
I got an e-mail with some alarmingly close deadlines for a grant proposal I haven't fully written yet - I send a message to my co-author on the grant checking whether she can also get all this done in three weeks or so, and then offer to coordinate with the grants team to shift that deadline (the sponsor does not have a stated deadline, so all deadlines are pretty artificial here, at least). Things are further complicated by said co-author being on an eight-week field campaign in such a remote location that she must ski/snowshoe to get there.
Last week, a friend in computer science sent me an e-mail introducing me to a cool person he met doing research on campus that made him think of me. We exchange a couple e-mails and decide to attempt to grab coffee (weather permitting) a week from Friday! She sends another e-mail saying she was talking about my research with a colleague and he'd love to come as well - is this a new research partnership in the making??? 👀
I stop putting it off and reply to the student who's finishing his Master's remotely, offering some times to meet. I'm finding his situation extremely frustrating, but it would be great to get him the Master's and get him on his way!
Time to clear the inbox. I keep everything in a very nested set of folders and I have about 100 e-mails to clean up. Having to do this really makes sure nothing falls through the cracks (and my goodness, can I find things when I need to now!), but it's a bit of a slog.
Ah, shoot, forgot to submit reimbursement for lunch. I should do that sooner rather than later, since the itemized receipt is handwritten and just floating around my wallet. We were *way* under per diem (part of why I love this place is that you can get a good-sized lunch for under $10, which is basically impossible in a city this expensive!), and no alcohol, so the whole process is relatively painless. Whew.
Back to e-mail cleanup. Notification that my Master's (soon to be PhD?) student officially has access to 500,000 CPU core-hours and 10,000 GPU core-hours on a supercomputer for the next three years of his project! Woohoo! The e-mail addresses him as Dr., which is a liiiiiittle premature, but maybe it'll get him thinking of the possibilities...
A couple people reply-alled on a giant newsletter asking to be unsubscribed (there's a big button at the bottom, but hey), which has led to someone replying to them to say he actually quite likes these e-mails, hahaha.
Aha! My colleague in the mountainous wilds replies to say a three-week deadline bump works great for her. I broach the subject with the grants team. Hopefully they'll be cool with it!
I get invited to renew one of my appointments as associate editor - I'm cool with that, since it's about as many papers as I was reviewing, anyway. May as well get some extra credit for it.
I got an e-mail about nominating undergrad students for a leadership workshop opportunity - they're particularly aiming for students who have potential but are quiet/shy, and one comes to mind immediately. We can only nominate a couple people as a faculty, so I make a note to chat about this with another faculty member I've been meaning to grab coffee with at some point. That can wait for later this week - the deadline isn't until late March.
OKAY. E-mail is cleared, only half an hour later than I wanted to go home. It's still a little light out, even! I'm racing the last of my laptop's battery power here! Onward!

there are a few different versions of what happened to get jonathan fired from the university, so i'll talk a bit about his university/professor days and a general timeline for my version of him. mostly for my own reference tbh lol
i. he took 3 years to finish his bachelor's due to taking advanced courses with dual-credit in high school. he has a dual-major bachelors in psychology and biochemistry. he graduated at 21.
ii. he immediately went into a dual MD/PHD program for psychiatry. he worked as a research assistant under professor pigeon. his dissertation was generally about jung's concept of the shadow self and its relationship with fear.
iii. this is also when he first started working on early versions of fear toxin, while having access to the research lab under professor pigeon. it was mostly out of curiosity in his early years. it related to his dissertation, so why not?
iv. during clinical rotations in his dual MD/PHD program, he met tommy at an outpatient clinic when he was 25. he was....... a bad influence.
v. to finish the program and residency, it took 11 years total; he was 32 when he finished. he immediately became a professor due to professor pigeon recommending him after their years of working side-by-side.
vi. he continued experimenting with creating fear toxin and the efficacy of shadow work as part of his post-doctoral research. outside of being a professor, he had his own practice because being a professor doesn't pay that much lol.
vii. that said, jonathan LOVED being a professor. like love-loved it. literally getting paid to make people listen to him talk about his obsessions, his knowledge. and he was actually very good at it! he was a ruthless professor with grading, but absolutely willing to work with students to understand the material. generally, most of his classes had students with As across the board.
viii. what got him fired was firing a live round in class. he fired it at the ceiling. IT WAS NOT A BLANK like some versions have it. this was an escalation over time, however, as he used to bring in prop guns to demonstrate his point. except, students talked to each other about his class, so they all came to expect his prop gun, and the trick didn't work anymore. so he. brought a fucking real one and shot the ceiling like a deeply normal person would reasonably do. he was 36 when this happened. he was promptly fired. professor pigeon didn't stand up for him due to his tenure coming up.
ix. he started working at arkham shortly thereafter. he focused completely on finishing the fear toxin. this is when his fear toxin entered testing phases, but he was unable to get test subjects or grants so that he could quit at arkham and focus solely on fear toxin. amazingly, no one wanted to be terrorized and people were not convinced that scaring the shit out of patients was ethical lmao. he sometimes tested the fear toxin on himself and it really deteriorated his mental health.
x. due to rotating staff, he ended up as head psychiatrist by 38. he started using inmates as test subjects too!
xi. by 39, he picked up the mantel of scarecrow and went absolutely bonkers, killing professor pigeon, other university staff involved in his dismissal, some high school bullies, then attempted patricide and matricide. batman stopped him!
xii. at 39, he ended up in arkham
xiii. he got paroled around 3 years in (don't ask me why), so he terrorized greenvale and started harassing becky at 42
xiv. my jon is in his late forties, so he's been at it a couple years! age depends on verse, but generally he's like. probably 48 for most interactions i have on here.
#ooc: hey ghouls!#hc: jonathan.#tl;dr he started being the scarecrow at 39 and is generally like 48 in most threads i think!

❀ || maeve && her education timeline
a continuation to this early life timeline.
14: enrolls in a dual-degree program at Harvard University: a B.A. in English Literature and a B.A. in Philosophy
she also simultaneously begins a B.Sc. in biochemistry at MIT through a cooperative and accelerated program.
it takes all she has to balance coursework with research assistant roles.
16: maeve completes her undergraduate coursework at an accelerated pace whilst she participates in advanced research projects in epigenetics, gene therapy, and molecular biology.
her first real academic paper is published in a peer-reviewed journal on epigenetics under the name 'M. Donovan'.
17: graduates with: B.A. in english literature, B.A. in philosophy, B.Sc. in biochemistry.
the family friend maeve was staying with, beatrice (fc. gina torres), passes away. despite the heartbreak, maeve moves to Baltimore, Maryland, and completes a summer internship at Johns Hopkins University.
during this time maeve applies to Mendel University’s PhD programs.
18: She moves to Brno, Czech Republic, to attend Mendel University for her PhDs.
Enrolls in three concurrent PhD programs:
PhD in Genetics - Focus: Cancer Research and Epigenetics
PhD in Botany - Focus: Plant Genetics and Bacteriology
PhD in Entomology - Focus: Vector-Borne Diseases and Parasitology (more information on all of these here and here)
maeve officially changes her name from merav donovan to maeve beatrice donovan, despite already using Maeve as a nickname / main name since she was 13.
19 - 21: it's hard to be constantly surrounded by men, to be as the show says "only female doctor at Mendel University". but she makes friends - meets people from other courses, other universities.
her best friend is a woman she meets by chance - alayia becker (fc. dic.hen lac.hman) who is studying at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts. they regularly attend as many festivals and events as they can, and for the first time, maeve feels like just any other girl her age.
21 - 22: she succesfully defends all three of her dissertations, graduating with three PhDs and, establishing herself even if faceless. maeve publishes multiple high-impact papers across many journals - never turning up in person to conferences to present, letting people assume if 'm. donovan' is a man or woman, trying to keep her age out of things. to be taken seriously, she often has to remain invisible.
22-23: she decides to spend a year travelling and conducting field research in botany and entomology.
a lot of this time is spent in Peru and across Brazil studying biodiversity, medicinal plants, and insect-plant interactions.
23: she returns to the USA much earlier than she would have liked. but her adoptive mother's cancer is back, and it's enough to stop her from continuing her flutterings.
In her profiler verse, this is when she joins the FBI, going almost immediately into undercover work for the first year. she's then thrust into the team at about 25-ish in season 5 or 6.
in her main verse this is when she decides to focus on her genetics research, as she's already lost one beloved person to cancer (Beatrice) and now potentially mary too. bobby is back in her life full time, and he starts using her grief to isolate her from her friends.
23-25: she works full time, researches and publishes as much as she can. she's briefly engaged to bobby before calling it off... which is when the stalking first begins. however, due to mary's ill health, maeve feels like she can't simply leave.
25 onwards: maeve is shot by her stalker, left in a coma for over a year.
once mostly better she takes some time after to lecture at universities, travelling around the USA to try and regain her sense of self && to learn to feel safe again. (main verse is usually in this time period). she continues various studies to keep herself busy.
29-ish: spencer's arrest in season 12, maeve returns to support him and settles down again nearby.
#𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗘: // headcanons#𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗘: // portrayal#𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗘: // I had to do. SO MUCH research for this.#𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗘: // my god girl. take a year off. nap.
