reading more about atomic gardening and this is so much fun. to read about that is. it also seems fun to do, but. you know. anyway:
"The story of these citizen-pioneers of mutagenesis (the technical term for creating genetic change through the application of chemical, physical, and biological agents) is full of fantastic details, from Muriel Howorth’s propagandising ballet-mime, Isotopia, which involved a cast of Knowledge, Electron, Proton, Neutron, Rat, and Cow, as well as a working geiger counter, to Tennessee-based atomic entrepreneur C.J. Speas irradiating trays of seedlings into his backyard bunker.
Tumblr media

Perhaps the most bizarre detail in the interview, however, is the news that these gamma gardens are still in operation, relatively unchanged in design since the 50s, in the grounds of national laboratories today. Their circular form, which, as Johnson notes, bears more than a passing resemblance to the atomic danger symbol, “was simply based upon the need to arrange the plants in concentric circles around the radiation source which stood like a totem in the center of the field.”
It was basically a slug of radioactive material within a pole; when workers needed to enter the field it was lowered below ground into a lead lined chamber. There were a series of fences and alarms to keep people from entering the field when the source was above ground. The amount of radiation received by the plants naturally varied according to how close they were to the pole. So usually a single variety would be arranged as a ‘wedge’ leading away from the pole, so that the effects of a range of radiation levels could be evaluated. Most of the plants close to the pole simply died. A little further away, they would be so genetically altered that they were riddled with tumors and other growth abnormalities. It was generally the rows where the plants ‘looked’ normal, but still had genetic alterations, that were of the most interest, that were ‘just right’ as far as mutation breeding was concerned!
Over at GOOD, Peter Smith recently described a similar layout at the still-active Institute of Radiation Breeding, in Hitachiohmiya, Japan, which has “has a 88.8 Terabecquerel Cobalt-60 source, ringed by a 3,608-foot radius Gamma field (the world’s largest), and a 28-foot high shield dike around the perimeter.”

As it turns out, far from being a fantastic fossil from the future that never was, along with jetpacks and flying cars, atomic gardening is alive and well today. According to a 2007 New York Times story, which quotes Dr. Pierre Lagoda, head of plant breeding and genetics at the International Atomic Energy Agency, radiation breeding is actually experiencing a renaissance, due to the introduction of “new methods that speed up the identification of mutants.”
Tumblr media
IMAGE: Mutant crop varieties mapped by The New York Times.
What’s more, the Times adds, nearly 2,000 gamma radiation-induced mutant crop varieties have been registered around the world, including Calrose 76, a dwarf varietal that accounts for about half the rice grown in California, and the popular Star Ruby and Rio Red grapefruits, whose deep colour is a mutation produced through radiation breeding in the 1970s. Similarly, Johnson tells Pruned that “most of the global production of mint oil,” with an annual market value estimated at $930 million, is extracted from the “wilt-resistant ‘Todd’s Mitcham’ cultivar, a product of thermal neutron irradiation.” She adds that “the exact nature of the genetic changes that cause it to be wilt-resistant remain unknown.”

Our Lips Are Sealed(1)
Tumblr media
-Emma, Manny, Spike and Jack are still trying to live without Snake. Manny is desperate to lose weight for an interview with an agent and Emma is happy enough to control one more thing like what they eat. They go on a major diet, barely eating, binging and throwing up and running too much. Snake is tired of staying at Joey's and really wants to come home. Emma tries to help, but to no avail. She's also trying to keep her relationship with Peter on the down low. Manny loses the pounds she wants too, and Snake manages to re-woo Spike and come home but Emma still feels the need to stay on the diet.
Our Lips Are Sealed(2)
Tumblr media
-Emma, still on her dangerous diet, tries to make up excuses to friends and family about why she's not eating and is having problems. She alienates Manny and tells her she's dating Peter. Peter finds out about Emma's eating disorder and goes to Manny, the two of them talk to Snake and Spike and all of them try to intervene and save Emma. She ends up having a panic attack and passing out, sending her to the hospital. Meanwhile, Paige wants Alex and Hazel to get along, which is like getting water and oil to mix without the egg. They eventually manage to get along because Paige is their egg.

Interview with Ando's Record Shop
Tumblr media
Could you introduce yourself and who influences your music? "My artist name is Ando’s Record Shop but my given name is Andy Goldmark. Everything I do as Ando’s Record Shop is written, performed and produced by me. I started out as a singer songwriter and then after a couple of more incarnations as an artist I focused strictly on being a song writer and producer for other artists. I worked behind the camera so to speak writing and producing hits for Carly Simon, Patti LaBelle Jeffrey Osborne, Michael Bolton, Kenny G and many others.
My influences range from The Beatles to Paul Simon to Joni Mitchell to Peter Gabriel all of the great artists on Motown to Gamble and Huff to all of the great artists on Stax Records in Memphis. Amongst my influences by today’s contemporary artists I would give a huge shout out to Pharrell and Jon Batiste as well as Lana Del Rey. With Ando’s Record Shop I have now come a full 360 degrees back to where I started; as a singer songwriter."
What are the hits you are most proud of? "I am most proud of “Crush” by Jennifer Paige which was a huge worldwide hit, because not only did I write and produce it but I also found and signed her to my own label and kicked off Crush's success but taking it directly to KISS FM in Los Angeles and getting it added to their playlist. I’m also proud of "Soul Provider" which I wrote for Michael Bolton and was a big hit for him and I’m proud of "All I Want Is You" by Carly Simon which she and I wrote and did very well for her."
Who are currently your three favourite artists? "My 3 favourite artists currently are The Bleachers, Kacey Musgraves and Teddy Swims."
What’s happening or do you hope will happen in your music career? "I am just now releasing my second release, “Time On Mars" and I’m hoping to grow my fan base with this one. I want to focus on quality with great songs that are events unto themselves that people will recognize as vital compelling unique and fun! It’s my passion to continue releasing songs I feel cut through the clutter and make a difference in people’s lives."
What song do you think our followers should be listening to right now? "'Time On Mars' is the song by Ando’s Record Shop I want people to listen to right now. It is so timely and relevant to what’s going on here on planet earth and the way people all over feel about our existence and the challenges we’re facing. 'Time On Mars' addresses the need to get away from it all in a serious yet humorous fun way with a healthy dose of sarcasm and irony baked in. It’s a song that's upbeat rhythmic and catchy about catching the next flight out of here bound for Mars!"

Yara Shahidi Reveals the First Black Tinker Bell Doll - and Fans Already Love It
On Feb. 28, Walt Disney Studios released the first full trailer for the live-action Disney reboot of Peter Pan - a Disney+ original named "Peter Pan & Wendy," which debuts April 28. It was fans' first glimpse of "Black-ish" star Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell, the sometimes-mischievous fairy who accompanies Peter and Wendy on their journey. But Shahidi just upped the excitement by sharing a sneak peek of Mattel's Tinker Bell doll, inspired by her character in the upcoming release. "Can you believe it . . . My very own wings, covered in pixie dust 🧚," Shahidi captioned a photo her holding the new Tinker Bell in her likeness on Instagram. Shahidi will be playing the first-ever Black Tinker Bell, making the doll's reveal even more meaningful to many fans. The doll sticks closely to the upcoming movie version of Tink: curls gathered into a high bun and crossed with two braids; a leafy green frock (dusted with sparkly pixie dust, as Shahidi noted in her caption); and green and glittering fairy wings. "I'm excited to share the Tinker Bell doll inspired by my character in #PeterPanAndWendy. She is so very special! 🧚" Shahidi wrote. The actor shared additional photos of the doll in her Instagram carousel and Stories, including video of herself gazing up at the Tink doll, perched on her shoulder, then winking at the camera. Image Source: Instagram Stories/Yara Shahidi Several commenters replied to let Shahidi know how much seeing her likeness represented in doll form means to them. "I'm so exited we get a black tinker bell and little mermaid!!!!!" one person said, referring to Halle Bailey playing Ariel in Disney+'s live-action remake of "The Little Mermaid," which will be released this year. "I can't wait to get my Ariel doll too," Shahidi replied to one of her commenters. "Black Panther" actor and stuntwoman Carrie Bernans wrote, "This makes me so happy! I need this like NOW for me & my niece." While actor Taylour Paige replied, "Of course we can ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️." In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Shahidi opened up about the "beautiful" response both she and Bailey have been receiving, despite some of the initial racist backlash over their castings. "I think oftentimes people think of diversity and inclusion as threatening or jeopardizing the quality of the story, instead of seeing how beautifully they can be interwoven together to create something that impacts even more people, that lets even more people into stories that we love." We're not sure exactly when the Tinker Bell doll will be on sale - but when it is, we know plenty of fans who plan on snatching up more than one for the kids and adults in their lives. As Shahidi wrote in her Stories, "We can't wait to share the magic. Who doesn't want a fairy in their life?!" https://www.popsugar.com/family/yara-shahidi-first-black-tinker-bell-doll-49117444?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr

The Fosters EPs Preview Series Finale's Rocky Wedding, Talk Revisiting 'Brallie'
Tumblr media
The Fosters invites you to a series-finale wedding next week — but it remains to be seen if Brandon and his fiancée Eliza will actually walk down the aisle.
Picking up one year after the Season 5B finale, the three-night event (airing June 4-6 at 8/7c on Freeform) finds the family gathering for the couple’s destination nuptials in Turks and Caicos. However, the happy affair hits a snag when Callie expresses some concerns about her ex-turned-brother’s bride.
“Weddings are very stressful, and weddings with old loves running around are especially stressful and fraught with danger,” executive producer Peter Paige teases.
The “Brallie” relationship is “where we began,” Paige says of the decision to stir up the pair’s romantic history. “It’s something that a lot of fans have wondered about, whether they’re invested in it coming to fruition or not coming to fruition. It’s something that all the fans have opinions about. And it just felt like it was the right time to understand who they were going to be moving forward.”
One thing’s for certain: Who Brandon and Callie, not to mention the rest of the Foster children, are is not who they were when viewers first met them in the pilot. “Because the characters are older, they feel more mature,” EP Bradley Bredeweg describes. As a result, the show’s swan song has “a different tone and vibe, and the storytelling is a little bit more slow-paced, because it does feel a little bit more mature than the sort of lightning-speed way we told stories in the first five seasons.”
Nowhere is that growth more apparent than in Jude’s storyline in the final episodes, which is one the series can tell now that the pre-teen is a young adult at college. “He’s wrestling with the freedom that one is given when one leaves home and what to do with it,” Paige previews. Adds Bredeweg: “And also the freedom of being a young, gay male in this world and society with social media and sex apps and all of those things. It opens up a lot of different questions and things that you have to maneuver as a young man.”
Meanwhile, with all of their kids out of the house, “the moms are trying to maneuver what that means for them,” Bredeweg shares. “So that’s a rebirth for them, in a way. What do they want to do as a couple in love when the kids are outside of those four walls?”
But Lena and Stef aren’t dealing with a completely empty nest: Their new foster child (played by The Mayor‘s Dallas Young) “is an amazing kid who adds some joy and some tears to our three-episode journey,” Paige reveals. The moms will also have their fair share of wedding stress, courtesy of Eliza’s wealthy, conservative family. “That creates for some very interesting, very challenging [situations],” Paige notes. “Weddings are such a microcosm of norms, of traditions, and in those traditions, there are a lot of things that have been sort of codified: misogyny and ownership and the patriarchy. So what happens when two very, very disparate families come together for one wedding?”
Drama, that’s for sure. And a lot of romantic upheaval for many of the show’s couples. When the Season 5B finale jumped forward in time, Jesus and Emma were still together, and Mariana and Mat had reconciled. But Paige warns, “it’s always a rocky road to paradise. You’ve got to tune in to see who’s still together, and who’s fallen apart, and who gave who crabs.”

hi!!! question - do u think Dylan is gonna surprise us and make an appearance in the teen wolf movie? it just feels insane to me that they’d make it without him??? and also dying to know your thoughts and opinions that they announced a character as “Derek’s son” ?? It’s all very wild to me and idk how to feel I need you to tell me how to feel
[I'm going to state some of my opinions because they were directly asked of me. I'm not interested in arguing with people, so if you don't agree with things that I say in this post, just keep scrolling.]
Heyy!! Hopefully my feelings on these things will help you figure out your own lmao ♥
First things first, I don't think DOB will be in the movie. As much as he has said in interviews that he loves the show, he's also expressed a lot of negatives about how it was run. I don't really think he wants to return - regardless of his excuse of liking where the show ended. He's mentioned that the show "has his heart", but I think he means that he has a nostalgic feeling about it because it was where he started as an actor, more so than his love of Teen Wolf as a series. And since he was likely being pressured to do it by fans, I'm glad that he's not forcing himself into a situation he's not excited about.
That being said, I don't think the movie would be stupid enough to pretend he doesn't exist. I'm sure there will be mentions of him - along with maybe an email, text, or phone call where the audience can't hear the other side, so they just pretend Stiles is on the phone.
Eli Hale!! Let me tell you, I am ecstatic.
Looking at the timeline and his appearance, I think the most believable mother would be Paige. He definitely looks like her and that would be a very interesting twist. Maybe a Peter situation, where Talia took memories of a baby? But I would also be very bothered, if they reused the same storyline twice in the show, so... Also, I like this idea because I've had a WIP in the works for months about teenage Paige having a baby and Sterek raising it, so this would play into my worldbuilding quite a bit haha.
The other option would be Kate, which also intrigues me. A hunter-trained werewolf, breaking free of his deranged mother's lifetime of brainwashing when he finds his father's old 'pack'? Give me that!! I would love a storyline like that and it would actually be something that would make sense for why Derek wouldn't know. He would've left to New York before Kate started showing. This could also open up the possibility for getting more information on the Argents. Maybe Eli was raised primarily by Kate's mom or some other relative, with Kate in and out of his life? I think there would be a lot of room to play around with this idea and I'm here for it. Shit, if Eli isn't Kate's, then I might need to start a new WIP.
I know people are all upset about the idea of Eli and who his mom might be, but I really don't see why. Derek is not a real person - he's a character - and it literally doesn't matter how often his past comes back to haunt him. If he's Kate's kid, then there's a lot Jeff Davis can play around with - and fanfic writers, too!
As far as I'm concerned, this movie will do three things:
revive old fandom members, along with bringing in new ones
provide and inspire new content to play around with for edits, moodboards, art, fanfic, etc.
build the Teen Wolf universe
There are no downsides to this movie. We gained a new Hale character to play with! We're getting inspiration for our content creators! We're getting to step back into Beacon Hills! And if it's horrible? Who cares?? Just pretend it didn't happen, like most of this fandom pretends seasons 4-6 didn't exist.
Why stress about a fictional movie, when you could be excited for this new Teen Wolf content?? I'm so ready for it. I'm ready to need to rewrite the whole thing and probably double my WIPs while trying to fix the dumpster fire that the movie will undoubtedly be. You bet your ass I'm getting Paramount+ as soon as the movie comes out.

Caspar Brötzmann
Among the most exciting and forward-thinking albums to come out early in the last few years are a pair of recordings made decades ago: Caspar Brötzmann Massaker’s The Tribe (1988) and Black Axis (1989). The albums are just the first of the band’s five-LP catalog set to be reissued throughout 2019 and 2020 by Southern Lord Records. A special-edition box set collecting the releases is to follow.
Formed in Germany during the mid-’80s, Caspar Brötzmann Massaker arguably was one of the most electrifying power trios in the world. While its music had roots in hard rock and metal, its raw, adventurous and complex sounds seemed to exist beyond genre or convention—alchemizing elements of avant-garde composition, far-reaching improvisation and tribal rhythms into a vivid, noisy squall.
At the helm was vocalist and guitarist Caspar Brötzmann, whose ferocious, dynamic playing—for example, throttling on the headstock and plucking the strings up near the tuning pegs of his guitar to build layers of atmosphere and texture—has made him a cult figure among fans of challenging, tension-heavy music, as well as a much sought-after musical collaborator. In addition to Massaker, he’s worked with Helmet’s Paige Hamilton, Einstürzende Neubauten’s F.M. Einheit and more recently with Zu’s Massimo Pupillo. And in 1990, the guitarist released an album with his father, free-jazz reedist Peter Brötzmann, titled Last Home.
Brötzmann’s distinctive guitar style stems more from a lifetime of working to forge an artistic identity than sheer technical mastery. “The simple truth is that I tried, in the ’70s, to find a way to play guitar like me and not to be a copy of Hendrix, my father or anyone else,” he said.
In several interviews, he’s discussed how his guitar and amplifiers merely are the tools of his self-expression, and listening to his music it’s easy to get the sense that no matter which instrument or creative medium he gravitated toward, he’d approach it with equal imagination and fervor.
Born in 1962, Brötzmann took to the guitar while growing up in West Germany, where he was particularly drawn to the myriad rhythms and sounds he heard in his everyday life—especially from within his grandfather’s blacksmithing shop and the rumbling steam locomotives that ran near his home.
“My grandpa was a blacksmith, sometimes like an artist blacksmith,” Brötzmann said. “His masterpiece was a handmade black iron rose made with ornate details. His workshop was very impressive. Heat and steel, and in his really rough and strong hands, he could pick up a glowing piece of coal.”
Gradually, these industrial influences began seeping into the younger Brötzmann’s music.
By the time he launched Massaker in West Berlin, the city was a hub for experimental, industrial, punk and electronic artists, as well as for social and political unrest. (“If hundreds of policemen hit their protection shields with their batons, you never will forget [the sound].”) With Massaker, Brötzmann found an outlet to explore these tensions and his observations about humanity, while fusing elements of improvisation and composition—though hearing any sort of pop-centric verse-chorus-verse, is a fraught proposition. He describes the approach as “freedom under a high-volume level. A lot of rock and blues bands did the same: Play jam sessions, have fun and start new, if the music goes boring. I did the same, just later and without the traditional blues structures.”
Where some bands rehash similar ideas throughout their lifespan, each Massaker album presents something new, and repeat listenings only seem to reveal more secrets, giving each recording a timeless feel. “I guess that has something to do with to being true to yourself, finding the power inside of you, and playing what you can see and feel,” Brötzmann said, discussing the quality of those decades’ old recordings. “If there’s nothing new, I guess it’s better for me to be quiet. I do not want to play one song my whole life.”
Following its fifth album, 1995’s Home, Massaker went dormant in the studio, and after a final show in 2000, the band didn’t play again for a decade before reuniting for a string of shows, including an appearance at the 2011 Roadburn Festival, which was curated by drone stalwarts Sunn O)))’s Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley. Anderson also runs Southern Lord, and following the Massaker reissues and box set, the label is planning to release in 2020 new material from the musician’s latest project, Bass Totem (a title of a song on Massaker’s third album, 1992’s Der Abend Der Schwarzen Folklore). “I am not using the name Massaker anymore. That is over. In these times of terror, it is impossible for me to play under this name Massaker again,” Brötzmann said.
Bass Totem is still a work in progress, so Brotzmann understandably is keeping close guard of some of the project details for now. But as its name suggests listeners can expect a lot of bass guitar. “There are solo songs, songs with guest musicians, and a band trio with drums and two basses, maybe more musicians,” he said.
No matter where the new music takes him (or vice versa), there are some elements of Brötzmann’s process that forever will remain the same. “My work is really simple and has a lot to do with praxis,” he said. “Plug the guitar in and play, track yourself and work out the good moments—you never know how they’ll find you. Build up an intro, a few song parts, and a refrain, and open the improvisation with a guitar solo. That is, and was, my freedom.”

Note
part of the weirdness of seasons 4 and 5 is just the nature of TV back then. Most people signed onto a 3 season deal because thats how much you needed for syndication (reruns) if a show did well enough to make it past 3 seasons the actors could usually get a pay bump but also its when you see a lot of characters die off or leave a show because the actors don't want to be nailed down. However in the writers room, the audience doesn't know or care so writers can't get better pay, so usually leave most shows end up with a total writers room turn over after their 3rd season (or used to) so you end up with people who haven't been engaged all the way through for whom this is a job rather than a calling and they have no way to know what was in the heads of past writers, so you end up with weird, badly thought out, or shark jumping things, wasn't all bad for sure but you can tell things are more shaky
Hey anon!
Oh yeah for sure I did think the weirdness in Season 5 was down to it being rushed and maybe because they heard they weren't getting picked up for another season. But some plot points they could've just tweaked to make it more understandable and not wildly OOC. The first two seasons have 20+ episodes then when we hit S3/4/5 it goes down to 14, I understand the BTS scenes with the network/production of the show does count towards what we ultimately see. The creators and writers have to work within what parameters they're given and with an ensemble cast they have to try and divide up the stories fairly to fit in with how many episodes have been green lit. I'm sure I saw an interview where Peter Paige said they were hoping to get picked up for a sixth season but it didn't work out and rumours were Randy had enough and wanted to leave and pursue other things. And with him and Gale's characters being such a forefront of the show and the audience following this group for five years any switch up within the cast wouldn't have really worked so maybe that added to the messiness of Season 5, I dunno. As you say not all actors want to be tied down that long especially if you're not thrilled with the stories you're getting which is fair. A change of writing staff will also affect it, at the end of the day they're all trying to earn a living. Season 4 wasn't that bad for me it's just Season 5 accross the board is shaky. But as with any show nothing is perfect there'll always be stories you love, stories you hate. Things that could've been better, but I'm grateful it ran for as long as it did.

Jake consistently talks about how coming out to yourself is the most important step, he advocates the importance of feeling safe within a community that accepts you even if that support system isn't your family and how that (not being out to your parents) shouldn't be a source of conflict in a relationship because everyone's story is different . Like he says it in a lot of interviews, grey's should take notes from what he said.
Krista Vernoff needs to actually TALK to her LGBTQIA+ actors and put those into writing. She's friends with Peter Paige for chrissakes!
Also tbh good for Jake and I kind of agree but at the same time, coming out only to yourself only is okay too. More or less, it's your own acceptance of yourself that is important. No one has to dictate your coming out story or even if you choose to come out at all.
Nico has come out to himself and I think that is what he is happy with. TBH, Grey's portrayed that Nico basically "pushed" Levi to come out to his mom and it being a toxic trait when he isn't even out to his own parents.
But if you look at the Tarlos scene and how TK felt...... When Levi mentioned "shame spiral" in that phone call scene.. Nico wasn't trying to get Levi to come out to his mom. Levi thought that on his own... Nico, for me, felt insecure that perhaps Levi was the one ashamed of him. That he didn't feel secure or safe with Levi because deep down Levi could actually be ashamed of Nico... And so from the tiny, tiny, tiny snippet we have of Nico's dynamic with his parents... A lot of insecurities must have risen up.
I don't think Nico ever intended to force Levi to come out to his mom... He just wanted Levi to explain why he hasn't and that Levi isn't ashamed of having Nico as a boyfriend.
The whole Nico forcing Levi to come out is all on Grey's stupid writing.

I know what actors say isn't always reliable but Michael Fjordbak who played young Peter said in an interview with bhadpodcast that the flashback episode with young Derek and Paige and Talia was planned as a backdoor pilot that sadly didn't become a series. Maybe that's why some things are left vague. Still doesn't excuse not clearing those things up later on in the actual show of course.
Oh, yeah. The Hale spinoff. When I first heard that it’s never going to happen I was annoyed. But looking back at it now, I’m glad. Because I’m pretty sure JD would’ve found a way to somehow ruin it lol

Is the post-notitsune Stiles tag or maybe stiles leaves BH tag due for an update? 🙏 I love your guys' blog, and I hope you guys enjoy your well deserved break!! Your hard work on this blog is very much appreciated ❤️❤️❤️
We don’t actually have either one of those tags. So here’s a regular old list of Stiles Leaves Beacon Hills. - Anastasia

Out of everyone he thought he’d leave Beacon Hills with Scott or Lydia or his dad or Derek or hell even peter.

Never Would Have Believed It by 57nolives

Y'all probably would never believe this but Stiles is not a normal human, he’s a fallen angel. He doesn’t know it though. And his mate is the one and only Derek Hale.
The Truth of It, Part Two by alisvolatpropiis
(1/1 I 3,416 I Mature I Sterek)
Stiles stood in front of the mirror in the tiny bathroom of his apartment in Iowa City and gingerly pulled the bandage from the fresh tattoo, his first. He winced at the sting of the tape and the hiss of cool air against the abused patch just over his heart, slightly red and a little swollen. His eyes flicked back and forth between his reflection and down to his chest, the ink so solid and vibrant it seemed to glow darkly on his skin, uncharacteristically tan from his travels.
(Stiles didn’t tell Scott, or anyone for that matter, about that first tattoo. Six months later, when he got his second, a wolf-bite on his hip in the same spot where Peter had bitten Scott six years prior, the day before he met Derek, he skyped Scott immediately to show him, and they both cried.)
He didn’t cry though, with that first one, not when got it and not when he studied the black swirls on his chest after he removed the bandage. He had spent the previous two months crying the last of his tears for Derek Hale, and this tattoo was to remind him of that fact, an acknowledgement of Derek’s inextricable hold over his heart, even if he is the one who unknowingly shattered it.

“C’mon,” he says, catching his fingers in your sweater, and tugs. “We’re gonna get coffee, you fucking stalker.” You follow him, and try not to think about how easy and right it feels.

Left Behind by isthatbloodonhisshirt (wasterella)
(1/1 I 7,329 I General I Sterek)
“You have got to be fucking kidding me.”
Stiles felt like every inch of him was on fire at the sound of that voice. His heart did something weird in his chest, his breathing hitched and he could feel himself melting slightly.
He hadn’t heard that voice in over three years. He hadn’t… he’d forced himself not to think about that voice, or the person it belonged to. He’d tried so, so hard to just erase every part of him from his life, from memory, just… forget him entirely.
It hadn’t worked. He’d known it wouldn’t, but he’d tried anyway.
Slowly, still sitting on the ground on his ass, Stiles turned his head and looked across the room.
Derek.
Derek was on the other side of the room.
Nightmares by alphaplease
(9/? I 12,478 I Mature I Sterek)
In the end it’s no surprise to Stiles that he’s alone when they take him. He’s been abandoned by his best friend, outlived his usefulness, and he sure as hell is not pack.
Think Of You by alex_m25
(7/? I 17,772 I Teen I Sterek)
Stiles knows she has no brain to mouth filter, but that doesn’t stop her from telling Derek that she loves him and that doesn’t stop Derek from freaking out and not telling Stiles how he actually feels. Stiles doesn’t wait for his answer. She leaves for college to get away from him. Stiles runs. She runs all the way to Europe. But not with the wolves.
The Signs of Twelve by 4lw4ys_a_fri3nd_n3v3r_a_l0v3r

Stars shower in the rain,
Flames of ice will burn again.
Banshees cry at a darkened moon,
The tree of Life will meet its doom.
Heavens bleed when a phoenix burns,
Light is fading, Death has come.
I’ve Been Everywhere With You by Leslie_Knope
(10/10 I 61,551 I Explicit I Sterek)
“Dude, you should totally come with me.”
“What? Like on the road trip?“
“No, come with me. To Austin. Get out of Beacon Hills.”
Derek paused. “What?” he asked again.
Famous Last Words by Anarik
(196/196 I 66,976 I Teen I Sterek I MCD)
Stiles doesn’t feel like he belongs to Beacon Hills anymore. He’s sick of being kidnapped, beaten and rescued like some damsel in distress. So he decides to leave and, somehow, he ends up following Derek’s path.
Querencia by Alazan
(30/30 I 94,852 I Explicit I Stiles/Grant)
(n.) a place from which one’s strength is drawn, where one feels at home; the place where you are your most authentic self.—Stiles has been pining over Derek pretty much his whole life. When Derek’s fling with Jennifer lands him with a baby, Stiles all but set to settle down and help Derek raise his baby girl. But Derek ignores him when all of the sudden Paige, the girl who Derek has been pining for pays attention to him and wants to be with him and wants to play house. Stiles warns Derek that it’s not gonna last and things get ugly. The Sheriff convinces him to go to his interview to the SHIELD academy and see how it goes. It goes great, in fact. It’s just what he needs. A new start. A new start with a certain Grant Ward.—Ward and Stiles end up being recruited into Coulson’s team and that team becomes a family.—Stiles gets bitten, goes on the run from hunters, Ward chases. Ward also turns his back on Garret and gives Coulson names and places, the HYDRA take down goes differently. Along the way they run into the Winter soldier, who also gets bitten along with Fitz and by the end Stiles ends up as their Alpha.
When It Comes To Being Lucky by sterekcrush
(46/? I 157,700 I General I Sterek)
Derek Hale doesn’t do love. He’s tried twice; the first time it made him a killer, and the second time cost him his whole world.
So he doesn’t do love, and he definitely doesn’t love Stiles. He doesn’t care about Stiles’ new powers or the fact that Stiles has been talking to Derek’s dead mother, or even the fact that for some reason supernatural creatures from all over the country are sending Stiles offers of courtship.
But when Stiles claims he’s not part of Derek’s pack and takes off for parts unknown…well, maybe Derek cares a little after all.

Once Bitten, Twice Shy
Previous Chapter
Chapter Summary -  Paige does an interview at the BBC with a host who very much wishes to see if she can pry information from Paige regarding her relationship with Tom but Paige is aware of such.
Tag, @wolfsmom1 @sweetkingdomstarlight-blog @nonsensicalobsessions@damalseer   @standing-onthe-edge
anyone else who wishes to be added to the tags, just ask :)
Paige tried to settle her nerves. She had done so many interviews before, this would be no different. Yes, they could mention Tom, in fact, she was sure they would, but she had prepared herself for almost anything they could throw at her. Though most of the time, her work in media had been to do with her books, something she was well versed on, she decided to study her new topic of conversation that she was certain she would have in Tom. She read his interviews, she recalled his mother's comments, his conversations with her on different matters and compiled what would be sure-to-be asked questions and appropriate answers that she would need to know to keep up the pretence of a relationship with the actor.
She smiled as the radio station manager showed her where to sit in the studio and offered her some water. “Please, if it’s no bother.”
“Of course.”
She looked at the headset in front of her and took a deep breath before readying herself more.
“Ms Winters?” She looked to the side to see the radio host, Davina Curren looking at her. “Hello, thank you for your time. I can imagine you are a busy woman.”
“Please, just Paige. I am more than happy to oblige. I haven’t been here in over two years. You were in the evening slot then, weren’t you? I remember I used to listen to you on the Underground on the way home from different things. I loved your piece on Aristotle you discussed with the College Professor from London.”
Davina’s face became more animated on hearing Paige knew her work. “Wow, thank you. Yes, that was an interesting piece. Well, as Mike, the manager here would have told you, we will discuss mostly your work and if there is time at the end, some other bits and pieces.”
“Yes, he said. We’ll see what we get through.” She smiled politely.
“Well, we start in three so we will get ready now.” Davina indicated for her to put on her headphones before sitting in her own seat and doing the same. “You put the volume to a level that suits and please remember to speak clearly into the microphone, you can adjust it as required.”
“Okay.” Paige did so to allow her close to the microphone with comfort.
When the light flashed for thirty seconds, she readied herself.
“Can you hear me?” Davina checked.
“I can indeed.”
“Perfect, let’s begin.” The light ceased flashing and turned on fully. “Good morning, Britain, Davina Curren here with you again on this lovely Thursday morning, and my guest today is a woman that has been in a few of the celebrity headlines of late but whose name has been gracing the more prestigious world of literature for the better part of the last decade, Britain's very own Paige Winters, author of many pieces but most known for ‘Rumour Has It’, the Costa book of the year in 2016. Paige thank you for joining us in the studio here today.”
“Thank you for having me.”
“So, we will start at the beginning, what got you into writing?”
“Well, there’s no straight forward answer to that.”
“Surely you had some inkling, even in school?”
“Interestingly, when I was doing my GCSEs, I had this teacher who literally told me I had no right to be doing English. I could not comprehend the work and if I passed, it would be a miracle.”
“Really?”
“No, honestly. She had no faith in me. Thankfully, she retired that summer and the most incredible teacher, Benjamin Shakespeare, no relation to the playwright we checked, came in to fill the void and honestly, I would not be in this profession today had he not sat me down one day and talked to me about why I wanted to keep on English with such mediocre grades. Being honest, I loved English, I loved literature, but that other teacher drained my love of it but on her retirement, I hoped I could regain my love for it. Thankfully, he was able to see I had some potential and allowed me to remain in his class.”
“And that was it?”
“Sort of. I did a piece the summer before and sent it into a competition. I didn't think anything of it, I thought at the time I didn't send it to the right place or it was not good enough, in fact, I did and on the 8th of February, 2005, Blue Peter published my story as part of their short stories book. I knew then that I wanted to write and see my name on the cover of books.”
“That's amazing.”
“Yes, I still have the original Blue Peter book I was sent for writing a contribution to it, my mum has it safe at their house.”
“So you have a Blue Peter badge too.”
“Yes, I do. It is in my jewellery box to this day.”
“That's lovely. So, can I ask, your books, they're not conventional love stories, are they?”
“I personally don't class them as romance if I'm honest. They are stories that have romance in them, yes, it's true, but that is merely a part of it, not the entire basis of the story.” Paige explained.
“Is that how you see life in general?”
“Well, yes. Romance is not the reason to live but an enhancement of the act of living, in my opinion.”
“And your characters are always strong women.”
“Every woman has her own strength, it's not always conventional muscles and power strength. Strength is different things to different people. A person who is kind, even when others are not kind to them. Someone who suffers some form of pain and stands straight again after. I try to display that in my work so women of differing personal strengths can relate to the situation at hand. In writing, you need to make the character relatable for it to resonate with the reader.”
“People seemed to resonate with an alien ice-being with magic more than actual human characters before.” Davina pointed out.
Paige knew she was clearly referencing Loki. “Yes, because of the portrayal of said ice-being and how well the character was acted out. People gravitate towards characters that are well portrayed and in that case, the most relatable and likeable character was the abandoned ice baby, raised on lies who, on realising it was all a lie was acted with anger, resentment, feeling incredibly inadequate, these are things that people feel empathy for.”
Davina looked at her for a moment before returning to other questions. “What book would you say would be a personal favourite of yours that people would not usually agree with?”
“Of my own or of another author's work?”
“Another author's.”
“People are startled when I say this though it is a very common choice but Pride and Prejudice.”
“You don't seem the type for conventional romance stories.”
“But you see, that's the thing. It's not conventional, or it wasn't, not in its day, it was groundbreaking in many respects. I was asked before at a gathering of friends if I could time travel just once into the past, when and where would I choose, and why. I said England, 1813, a week or so after that book was published and my reason being; that for a woman of no significant name, wealth or titles to decline the hand of a man of such considerable wealth and standing and citing her reasoning for such at a time where to do so was unheard of would have been an incredible experience. You know men were appalled by it, women of a certain mindset would have been scandalised by it and amongst them all, young women flabbergasted and enthralled. It would be called feminism in the modern age.”
“But she went and wed him in the end.”
“Yes, once both put aside their pride and prejudice. In it, you also see Elizabeth grow, acknowledge her own faults and become a better person too. I think a lot of people need to realise we all have negative faults we need to look at in ourselves too and Austin married it accordingly in her main characters, but also that people do change or at the very least, acknowledge themselves they are not perfect and work on it.”
“And you have faults?”
“Find me a person who claims they are without fault and I will show you a liar.”
“What would you say is your greatest fault?”
Paige thought for a moment. “I don't know which would stand over others, but I would say that I often lack social etiquette in particular situations. I don't believe in entertaining ideas of grandeur and in my world, many would argue that to be a considerable fault.”
“Many would commend that too.”
“Most people say they like an honest opinion until they receive one they do not like.” Paige countered.
“True.” The radio presenter agreed. “You pride yourself in never having to do too much publicity to sell your books, so I have to ask, do you still feel that way now, in your current situation?”
“I don't follow.”
“Well, since you went public with your current relationship, as I stated at the beginning of the show, you are now in the celebrity news for being with one of the most eligible men in Britain, surely you've noticed the increase in sales for your work? That is mostly due to the publicity of your relationship.”
“Well, I would argue it was not as though it was decided to go public since it was a photographer taking a photograph of a private brunch that alerted the world to this information, not a conscious decision to declare it publicly that made this information known, but yes, I am aware of the renewed increased sales and I have little doubt that that has been in part due to people hearing my name for what is, to them, the first time and deciding to see if they like my work resulting in these figures.”
“Do you think you will become a charity shop book now?”
“I have no idea nor do I have a say in it. I cannot force people to like my work, nor would I wish to force it as I believe in 'a pat on the back, not a pat on the head’. I want to be acknowledged for my work and it's quality, not because of the company I keep or who I may choose to be in a relationship with.”
“So you are not upset that many of your newest followers are only discovering you by these means?”
“Not everyone discovers the same people at the same time. Some only learn about certain authors, actors and singers after they have been around a while, for whatever reason, this is the very same. My soon-to-be sister-in-law only heard of Saoirse Ronan from her part in Mary Queen of Scots even though she has been the lead role in many movies and has been around since Atonement. That is not something to ridicule. People are only hearing of me now because of whatever reason, I am delighted they are and truly hope the like my work.”
“You are close to your family, aren’t you?”
“Yes, I consider family the most important thing in my life, my brother, his fiancée, my parents, they are so precious to me.”
“It must also be hard being in your current situation, supporting your significant other in a role centred around being betrayed when you, yourself have a similar experience.”
Paige shifted anxiously. “Well, I do not dwell on the past, it’s not a healthy way to live life.”
“But you were cheated on by your fiance, weren’t you? And to be with a man now that in many people’s eyes split up a music couple, how do you marry that?”
“I am not sure if that sort of drama-fishing warrants an answer if I’m honest. The only people who need to take account of their actions are those who are the guilty parties, namely, those who elect to cheat, I am told there was no infidelity there and until such time as I am led to believe otherwise, I would not speculate to such.”
“Do you like her, Taylor?”
“I don’t know three things about her. I never really found myself listening to her music, I never was overly into pop, so that is not a slight on anyone. I know the name to hear, of course, I don't live under a rock but I don't know her in any manner that would cause me to form an opinion on her as an individual.” Paige stated diplomatically, uncomfortable with the situation.
“And have you been to the play?”
“I have actually, yes. I quite enjoyed it too.”
“You seem somewhat startled by that.”
“I stated in the not too distant past that I did not feel it to be the best of Pinter's work due to him writing it with the aspect of the one being cheated on as a main point when he clearly cannot comprehend the sensation. The actors and actresses that put their hearts into the roles, the stage crew, everyone backstage, they put everything into this and it shows. I cannot commend them enough, they brought it to life brilliantly.”
“So what is next for you?”
“I am not sure really. I find I am asked that and indeed, asking myself that a lot of late. I still scribble a few things down, to keep myself fresh, but of yet, nothing is really coming to me.”
“Do you think it is partly because of a content home life? Having another you can depend on surely makes you complacent in many ways, I know when I got married, my husband’s income really gave me the security to try and get the job I sought.”
“I think there is a considerable difference between someone leaning on their spouse for support and leaning on those they are not so bound to. I always prided myself, since the day after my A-levels, of having my own income. My parents assisted me until then, I would never deny it, something not everyone is lucky to afford, and I don’t ever plan on that changing. I think it is imperative people have security in themselves if possible when doing something like writing a book. I wrote four pieces that were outright ignored before I ever even got a hint of interest from a publishing house. While doing that, I needed to afford to live and that meant housing that I am fairly sure dogs in a kill shelter reside in, because this is London, after all, and two jobs, one as a receptionist and one in my local all-night cafe. Even now, I make sure I am smart with my finances and this is the life of a writer, I would very much want others to understand, not everyone turns to JK Rowling with millions, or in her case for a short time, billion, in the bank. Even George RR Martin is not as wealthy as people think and though it affords him a comfortable life, writers rarely are that well off and if you are expecting others to fund you, especially in this world, you may be a long time looking.” Paige could see the presenter didn’t like her going off course slightly, but she used a technique to volley the conversation into a more impersonal and vague area.
Davina frowned as she realised Paige would not say or do anything controversial as a guest, to which Paige smiled politely back. “Good sound advice there. What do you think of Tom’s online fans, they are enthusiastic and protective of him, aren’t they?”
“I do believe so, yes. I am not a big fan of social media myself. I don’t do Instagram or Twitter and my Facebook is dormant for nearly two years at this stage. I think personally, I am more at home in a less technological era. I would have done well back in the eighties, I think.” She laughed. “With regards fans, people gravitate towards some people. They hold your attention more than others do and some for the wrong reasons, some for some very right ones. Some people light up the room they are in, they smile and are wonderful people and of course, people would want to be around that and wish to project towards that, I cannot blame them. It is great and alluring quality.”
“You don’t seem to mention Tom by name,” Davina noted.
Paige laughed slightly. “I don’t seem to have to really, do I? I think people will know who I am referencing, those who care for such things, those who do not will be glad not to be bombarded with it.”
“Not really no.” Davina looked at Paige’s polite smile. It was clear Paige was studying every question before answering, making sure not to say anything that could be construed as controversial. “Finally, is there any advice you have for young aspiring people, not just in your own field, but in general?”
“Well, I suppose the best thing I can say is not something I personally have said. But I think it is a great quote. ‘Never, ever, let anyone tell you what you can and can't do. Prove the cynics wrong. Pity them for they have no imagination’.”
*
Tom huffed slightly as he listened to the words Paige spoke on his phone, Luke beside him.
“What’s so funny?” Luke asked curiously.
“That’s something I said.” Tom pointed out.
“She’s done her homework. Oscar said she is thorough, I didn’t realise how much so.” Luke commended. “She handled that perfectly.”
“She’s an incredible and intelligent woman.” Tom agreed.
Luke studied his friend/client carefully, noting the manner in which he smiled as he listened to Paige speak.
