The Loft - Up the Hill and Down the Slope (1985)
I have this EP somewhere in a box in the "spare" room; it was one of the early releases on Creation records. Just those opening chords, and I'm transported to an apartment in SF, young, drunk and stupid.
My magpie eyes are hungry for the prize

Can you recommend a cosy historical mystery series? I’d prefer a female protagonist if possible
We can! Historical cozies are a little harder to come by than ones set in modern day, but reader's advisor Susan has some suggestions!
Susan says:
You should try Rhys Bowen. She has two series that would be good; The Molly Murphy series and The Royal Spyness series. Start with Murphy's Law and Her Royal Spyness, respectively
Victoria Thompson writes the Gaslight Mysteries series about a detective midwife set about 1900 in New York City. Start with Murder on Astor Place.
Stephanie Barron has a series with Jane Austen as the detective. Start with Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor.
The Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear might work for you, too. It is set in 1929. Book one is just called Maisie Dobbs.
You might try Mary Roberts Rhinehart. She was often called the American Agatha Christie, so if Agatha Christie is a winner for you then definitely give Rhinehart a try.
And finally, take a look at The Cadfael Chronicles about a mystery-solving monk from 12th-centruy England. If you like them, you're in luck: there are a lot. These were written by Ellis Peters (pen name of linguist Edith Pargeter). Start with A Morbid Taste for Bones.
--
I hope there's something on that list that works for you! We don't actually have many cozy mystery recs in our backlog so I don't have a tag link for you, but I invite others to share their own recs on this post as well!

Hey, I brought a lot of fluffy animals.
Samuel Spade:Great Dane Joel Cairo: long-haired calico cat Brigid O'Shaughnessy: wolf,Because she's just the strongest and she can tear everyone apart. Kasper Gutman:Orange cat pretending to be a tiger(I kept the habit of writing Chinese characters when I drew it. Anyway, the character “王” on his head means “king”.) Wilmer Cook:Foxhound. He was raised by these gangster cats.(I think he's an undersized hound)
Ah I probably drew everyone too cute, but it's kinda fun to think about a bunch of cats and dogs literally chasing a bird.Or canines vs. felines.
P3:there's the mouse Ugarte.It's a pun joke meaning S (鼠) moking
P4:Inspired by @noirgasmweetheart, I also think Ugarte is a wombat, in short he's just so cute he can be all round and goofy and stuff. As well as I love Lorre's Cat Cafe, I also agree that Cairo is a calico cat and Bogart is a Great Dane!

The Loft - Model Village (2006)
The Loft were one of my favorite mid 1980s Creation records groups. Led by Peter Astor, they recorded some wonderful 45s but didn't last long, later reemerging in a new configuration as the Weather Prophets. In 2006, they regrouped and recorded this superb single, which lyrically recalls the Kinks.

Peter Lorre Maltese Falcon Paper Doll
Tumblr media
...well, it's nice to have even if dear Peter doesn't quite look as he should, to say nothing of the other two. From the Dover Movie Mobsters Paper Dolls book by Tom Tierney.
We need to make paper dolls of the utmost accuracy! ;)

Pathfinders to Mars (ABC, 1960 - 1961)
"You know, Henderson, the progress of true science depends not only on the cold, calculating types, but also on the adventurers and dreamers. There's a place for all of us under the sun."
"Yes... as long as we don't get too close to it."
#pathfinders to mars#abc#children's television#classic tv#1960#guy verney#malcolm hulke#eric paice#gerald flood#pamela barney#george coulouris#stewart guidotti#hester cameron#hugh evans#astor sklair#peter williams#bernard horsfall#maurice durant#lisa peake#ian sadler#the pathfinders serials seem to have been in production nearly back to back‚ with very little gap between transmission#but that didn't mean there weren't further shakeups between Space and Mars; the two younger children were written out (the hamster remains#don't worry)‚ replaced by the niece of Flood's character tagging along; Peter Williams patronly father figure also disappears after a brief#appearance in the first ep‚ leaving Flood's genial sciencey everyman to take the lead focus. the most notable introduction is surely#the legendary George Coulouris (a former member of Welles' Mercury Theatre) as a slightly loony alien life truther who bluffs his way onto#the voyage; bf was present for me watching this with my dad and he DETESTED this new character‚ a perpetually suspicious and treacherous#hindrance to every one else whose stupid schemes and mischief routinely put eveyone in mortal danger. i get it... but then he's kind of fun#too‚ for all his ridiculousness... ymmv of course. the Coulouris character is perhaps the closest parallel we can see with Doctor Who‚#bearing more than a little similarity to the original Hartnell characterisation (by which i mean the very very original‚ in the first few#serials; purposefully mysterious‚ even antagonistic‚ often at odds with his fellow travellers but with a bond with a young girl among them)

Movie poster by an unknown artist for the 1946 French release of the Warner Brothers motion picture Le Faucon Maltais. This was one of the first motion pictures released in formerly Axis controlled territories after World War II. First National Inc was acquired by Warner Brothers in the late 1920s, and it became a trade name for a designated segment of Warner products. Though the company was officially dissolved in 1936, films and posters bore the trademark credits "Warner Brothers - First National Inc" through 1958. I could not find any information for the printing company, Imp. Aussel Paris, except that they were very prolific and were printing movie posters into the 1960s. If you know anything about them, please let me know.
