Back in May (Jeez I haven’t updated the blog in a long time!) I got featured on the Newsletter All About You, by Uppercase Magazine.

My two most recent dog portraits are these cuties: Stella and Redmond (in this order), from my Cool Pets On Instagram series #coolpetsonIG (pets from accounts I follow on IG). I have started practicing quick dog sketches like I did in February with the cats, and you can see some of them on my IG here. I hope these exercises will give me enough confidence to try Live sketching one day… yikes!

Even though I haven’t painted many custom Pet Portraits lately, my art revolves around animals one way or another. Last year the 5 Birdhouses for nesting I’ve painted were a success, so this year my friend Doug and I are trying to sell more houses to raise money for our local cat & dog shelter Etobicoke Humane Society, where we both volunteer. Now with an improved design, but still 100% handmade, with pine wood scraps and painted by me, these birdhouses are for sale locally in Etobicoke, Toronto, or they can be shipped by mail - Canada only. Meanwhile I selected some previous portraits to create my new business cards, printed by Moo as usual. Seeing them displayed like this in the photos makes me want to create some kind of playing cards, maybe a memory game? All animal related of course!

In other news, my Illustration "A Little Bit Of Blue" (the one with the black frame in the photos below) is on Tour. After the Canadian Contemporary School of Art, in Toronto, the CANSCAIP Exhibit of Children’s Book Art is now in a new location, The Richmond Hill Heritage Centre, and will run from July 14 until September 29, 2018.

Archie’s Walking Stick

We were contacted recently by a lovely gentleman who wanted us to make him something rather special. His gorgeous dog Archie was really ill and didn’t have very long as he was suffering from crippling arthritis.  He was a keen hill walker and wanted us to make him a walking stick using some of Archie’s ashes in the topper. We make quite a few walking stick so that wasn’t a problem, but then the gentleman said that he needed to be able to take it with him when he emigrated to Australia and it would need to be unscrewed so it would fit in his luggage.

Bespoke items

We have been working with customers for over 7 years and will always try our very best to find the perfect memorial for our customers. So we spoke to our brilliant walking stick man and then we spoke to our fantastic carpenter and then we talked to our talented glassmaker and between us we were able to design and create a ‘travelling walking stick’. And we think it’s rather good.

It took a little while and like all bespoke handcrafted memorial pieces there was a little of to-ing and froing, but that process can actually be very cathartic. And we would like to thank Ian and Archie for designing something that we think others might also like and need! Happy walking.
