Trollbeads is a Danish jewelry company best known for their expensive glass and silver beads. They’re the sort of jewelry you’re supposed to buy or give as a gift for special occasions. I admittedly have a soft spot for them because it’s the only place I can get silver pendants depicting trolls and other Nordic folklore creatures and recently they’ve been advertising pretty aggressively to me because I bought their chihuahua bead.

They especially want me to buy this bead.

It’s a male troll standing on a classic Danish designer chair according to the description. Only I had to visit their store to see it from this angle. Every ad I get looks like THIS

I don’t even know what sort of “special occasion” this would be for other than to show you appreciate your bottom/top.

Actually it's Lake Hillier in Western Australia though it's probably easy to get it mixed up as there are plenty of pink lakes in the world.

Apparently Lake Hillier's bright pink colour comes from a mix of colourful microbes. There was some testing done a few years ago using DNA sequencing and they found "almost 500 extremophiles – organisms that thrive in extreme environments – including bacteria, archaea, algae and viruses. Most were halophiles, a sub-group of extremophiles that can tolerate high levels of salt."

Which makes sense since the lake's saltiness is about 8 times more than the ocean. You would have to be pretty hardy to survive that environment!

"Several of these halophiles were colourful microbes like purple sulphur bacteria; Salinibacter ruber, which are red-orange bacteria; and red-coloured algae called Dunaliella salina. The mix of these microbes, and possibly others, explains the pink colour of the lake, says Tighe."

Yay, something arrived to wear when I'm out spinning Pokestops! A Facebook charity group is auctioning off donated beads to raise money for Ukrainian refugees, and someone offered a few Pokeball beads. These were made by Trollbeads near the time PokemonGo launched in 2016; apparently the were only given to certain retailers, which you had to find find first and then participate in a contest to win! Well, I'm happy to have a pre-loved one, and I know it's not much, but hope the donation can help someone out a little.
