DESI JAMES POTTER HEADCANON

Disclaimer: this is not era-typical. this is strictly subjective, this is my way of projecting my delusions and hoping I meet someone like James Potter some day!!

James craves parental and academic validation.

Now before I get jumped, lets all be real for one second. You are telling me James Potter is a desi first gen NRI and he does not crave validation? I refuse to believe that!! And it was not that Effie and Monty pressurized him... it was the opposite actually. they did not say a thing and my boy just felt he had to be the best because he has such nice parents who never ask for anything how can he ever live up to it??

He was the kind to lose sleep before important days. Right before the big matches and papers you would find James F. Potter roaming the halls of the school in the wee hours of morning, hands tightly clutching onto a mug that says, "You are ENOUGH" (his parents gifted him this in 3rd year when they noticed he was not doing well). The mug is obviously filled to the brim with either masala chai or cold coffee (the indian one).

2. He smelled like cloves

now this is something I have observed in my day to day life and feel like James too, would partake in. He would be the kind to use "spicy" toothpaste. simply because he thinks they last longer or smth. Effie also makes him homemade oil that has cloves (idk what they do I just associate the spice with him OKAY?) So basically when his partner(s) kiss him, they taste and smell clove. And it is not a comforting spice like cinnamon but imagine a whitewashed Regulus getting used to the sting of cloves and the horrible dant kanti-esque taste because the boyfriend uses them. There is a point when Regulus just starts carrying around a small bottle of clove oil or a box of clove and elaichi daana because James smells like cloves and Sirius like cardamom (FIGHT ME.)

3. Resident Problem Solver

Was he mischievous? Hell yes. Did he still make efforts to make sure everyone was okay? Duh.

James would be the kind to ask everyone about their day at the dinner table and be actually interested in what they have to say. He would notice when one of his friends were having a hard day and just drop a ladoo on their plate or ask them if they would like "non-spicy" chai. He would be the peacemaker. ALWAYS. He DID not like conflict. It hurt his soul to watch his friends fight or give each other a cold shoulder.

4. He LOVED being Desi.

he had the diaspora issue, obviously. But Effie and Monty came from the pre-partition India and tried to hold onto their country as much as they could. So James was super used to all the desi things. He had a head full of thick luscious curls because his mother massaged oil and gave him champi every week. When he moved to Hogwarts his hair suffered a little before the Summer when Sirius visited the Potters. Effie taught both of them how to apply oil onto each other's scalps and then it became their tradition at Hogwarts.

5. When Sirius returned bald.

there is a very popular HC that one year Walburga shaved Sirius' hair off because he was being disrespectful or smth. That year, James developed a variant of Indulekha x Parachute Coconut Oil (come on Desis i know you know what I mean) and made sure Sirius had his long hair back before Christmas. He would personally look after his diet, forcing amla tea down his throat or making sure he is eating 3-4 meals that consist of healthy things and not just meat as Sirius would otherwise have it.

Regulus fell in love with James around this time because he did smth he could not, protect Sirius. He went as far as daring Walburga to try to do it again, James would make sure Sirius grows his hair longer than ever.

6. He did not practice any religion

James was not religious, he was spiritual. He did whatever his mum, who herself practiced two religions, told him to do. Both Effie and Monty believed in giving back to the society more than giving to some religious institute, so imagine a first year James rushing into Poppy's wing with an injured bird in his hand begging her to save it.

7. He was the people's princess.

fight the wall. everyone, even the slytherins, secretly LOVED him and the gulab jamuns he would give out on Diwali every year.

8. Enjoyer of classical music.

I have said it before, I will say it again. MY MANZ LISTENED TO GHULAM ALI. idc if he was muggle or what, he loved his music, language be damned.

he enjoyed urdu ghazals more than anything else tbh.

9. TRAINED CLASSICAL MUSICIAN

he was trained in sitar and he could sing as well. he was basically an in house singer. He learnt electric guitar in his 2nd year and then there was no looking back. If he would not have been a professional quidditch player he would have been a musician or a music teacher or smth.

10. he was a STEM student.

okay this is non-canon but comp sci major James? who also happens to enjoy botany? yes. just the best.

11. James who would slip into Urdu when he was overwhelmed, who loved when people played with his hair. James who wrote letters in Urdu or Hindi or whatever regional language his parents spoke and wrote.

12. James potter who hated how his eyes were brown, just brown, growing up. but then one day his mother told him it is what she loves the best about him.

13. James Potter with bitten lips, he does that whenever he is nervous.

14. James Potter who was born during sunrise, his mother believes he is the sun.

15. James who would lay his life for his friends. James who loved hugging Peter, James who committed crimes for Remus.

16. James who adored and admired Minerva so much that he would try everything to get her attention, except he was her favourite student after Lily and Remus (Sirius was her son, let us all be honest).

17. James who played Carnatic Music while studying.

18. James who would wear short kurtas. james who is obsessed with shawls.

19. James who carried a bag full of supplies his friends might need. Like imagine a pouch filled with hair elastics for Sirius and the girls, painkillers for Remus, fidget toys and stress ball for Peter, and cloves for Regulus.

One of my favourite Sandman lore pieces I absorbed via tumblr is how, when Dream is having great sex, all the dreamers get to have glorious lustful dreams. Dream really is getting laid and making it everybody else's problem. Magnificent.

Dr. Robert Gadling is whistling an extremely cheery tune as he unlocks his office door -- which, if you had had the night he did, you would be whistling too, or possibly even clicking your heels like a demented leprechaun and wishing top o' the morning to everyone who passed. He's not doing that, but he's definitely feeling extremely good, and he sails inside, pulls up the blinds, boots up his computer, and prepares to answer some emails while he waits to see if anyone's actually going to come to office hours. It's always hit or miss, and then four days later they send a panicked question at midnight that they could have just, you know, asked. In person, in a timely fashion, when he definitely will not bite. He will never understand undergraduates.

Hob keeps the door propped open as usual, thus to project a warm and welcoming attitude, and after he's trudged through the first tranche of emails, he glances up to see one of his students loitering in the hall as if she's about to come in -- then, catching sight of him, turning scarlet and racing off at top speed. This is bewildering, since she's usually among the more talkative of the bunch, but Hob writes it off. At least until he sees several more students hovering in the hallway, who all vamoose the instant he sticks his head out to see if they need anything. This is decidedly peculiar, and he sighs deeply, grabs his mug, and heads down the hall to the faculty lounge, thus to raid it for a cup of coffee. Even more emails (and oh joy, expense reports) await, and he could use the fortification.

When he steps inside, his colleagues Bryan (Economics and Politics in Modern Germany) and Amita (Women, Caste, and Religious Practice in Precolonial India) both immediately turn bright red, clear their throats, and engage in a slightly too-loud conversation about the weather (which, given as this is London, is exactly what you think it is). Hob eyes them curiously, since while bizarre behavior is understandable from students, it is somewhat less so from lecturers. "Hey, guys," he says. "Anything up?"

"Er." Bryan is staring fixedly at the floor, while Amita has become unaccountably fascinated by the raindrops rolling down the window. "Nope. No. Everything normal, Rob. Entirely usual."

"Right," Hob says slowly, having the feeling of a man who has walked into a cave and found something large and furry that he should try not to disturb. "That's just me going, then. If I could sneak past you for the coffee pot, that'd be great -- "

He pours himself some coffee, departs in haste, and almost bowls over Philippa, Head of Department, in the hallway outside. They spring backward like a pair of opposing magnets, he manages to avoid dousing her in boiling hot coffee, and as he apologizes, notices that she is likewise determinedly not looking him in the eye and addressing a spot in midair over his head as she insists that it's fine. What the actual hell. Has everyone in Goldsmiths lost their bloody minds?

The insanely weird character of Hob's day, and the fact that even the clerk at Superdrug seems to cough unaccountably while ringing him up, remains a mystery until he gets home, finds an eager Dream Lord waiting for him already, and they get extremely distracted even before Hob can make dinner. Afterward, as they're lying half-clothed and decadent on the bed, Hob murmurs, "Well, glad you at least can stand to look at me, love. Had a very odd time of it today."

Dream's expression assumes a furtive, guilty quality. He rolls onto his back, head still pillowed luxuriantly on Hob's stomach, and stares up at the ceiling. "Ah," he says, after a very long pause. "About that."

(Two minutes of a deeply humiliating explanation later, Hob screeches, "YOU BLOODY DID WHAT?" Dream apologizes profusely and promises not to do it again. Hob does, of course, have classes and commitments for the rest of the semester, but hopefully it's not too late to change his name, once more fake his death, and move to Australia. Except, of course, they dreamed of him there too. Horrible.)

- I can imagine that first and foremost, he would definetly send you and any children you two have (should you want any) over to Evie or somewhere far away where Jack can't hurt you when he gets threatened by him.

- Also, since Jacob adopted Jack, imagine Jack being sort of like a platonic yandere but the kind of yandere who thought it would be more merciful to "free you" from Jacob by killing you, so Jacob being conflicted but also feeling guilty for not recognizing Jack and the darkness in him sooner (or even making it worse by filling his head with his ideologies).

- But yeah, no, at that point you have Stockholm Syndrome so you're honestly relieved when you return home and quickly become concerned when you see Jacob and when Evie leaves to go back to India, you caring and tending to Jacob and helping him adjust.

- Both couples old and young envy the both of you and women of all ages tell you how lucky you are to have married a man who was so handsome and so obsessed with you. If you were younger, you would've looked at them in disgust but instead, you nod your head and say: "Yes, there is no one quite like my Jacob" and when Jacob hears, he feels his heart skip a beat and he's suddenly back to being the love sick puppy he was when he first "courted" you.

- But yes he would be rather chiller the older he becomes and this is mostly because you've finally accepted that you're never getting away from him. If you make any bitter or passive aggressive comment, instead of pouting or being upset, he will chuckle or roll his eyes before kissing you because for all that sass; you both know that he won in the end.

- He also trusts you enough to go on morning strolls with him, his arm linked around yours as you both walk down the city just for the view or go to the market together and he isn't worried to let you out of his sight for a bit (Younger Jacob would've been stressing and wouldn't calm down until you were back in his line of sight) and he enjoys how the two of you have conversations instead of screaming matches, conversations where he is reminded of why he loves you so much and how he simply will never let you go.

- The mornings are nice the older you two get, your chairs next to each other as you read the paper and you feel Jacob's eyes on you, admiring you, studying you, enjoying the fact that you were finally his and his alone. Then he'd grab your hand and tenderly rub his thumb on top of your knuckles before he sits up to kiss your cheek. When you were younger, he would've had to grab you by chin to keep you from moving away but instead you stay still and turn to give him a peck on the cheek which makes him hum in delight.

Tea is a wonderful drink that comes in a wide variety of different flavors, each of them having a distinct personality and character. History of National Tea Day

The History of National Tea Day reaches far back into the world’s history but can be narrowed down to a place of origin that is surprisingly precise.

This place sits at the intersection of Latitude 29N and Longitude 98E, notable as the joining of NE India, Burma, China, and Tibet. Many mythological origins for tea also exist as well, some of them merely interesting and others quite gruesome.

On waking, he was so disgusted with his inability to stay awake, which he considered to be a weakness, that he severed his eyelids and threw them to the ground where they sprouted into the first tea bushes. A little disturbing, perhaps, but utterly Asian in its style.

Regardless of its origins (which may be in dispute) the importance of tea cannot be understated. And anyone is strongly encouraged to research it since it would be impossible to cover it’s entire history here.

Now, it’s time to take a look at what tea is–and what it is not. Officially speaking tea is an infusion of the leaves of Camellia Sinensis, an unassuming evergreen plant that hails from Asia. Technically, what tea is not is anything that does not contain these leaves.

That means that, while infusions of herbs not containing these leaves may be referred to as ‘Herbal Teas’, they are not in fact teas at all. Only those infusions which contain the Camellia Sinensis leaves can properly be called tea. Considering tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world, second only to water, it seems that a little accuracy is in order.

On the other hand, as words and traditions evolve, many things have become known as tea, which so many people around the world enjoy, that it doesn’t hurt to be a little generous with the definition. And generosity is what National Tea Day is all about. Drinking, and sharing, a generous cup of tea.

Because it spans a variety of sources and cultures, a couple of different dates have been recognized as National Tea Day. April 21 is National Tea Day in the UK. The UN has put National Tea Day a month later, and another National Tea Day falls in the middle of December. There are even days for Iced Tea, Bubble Tea and Chai. Not to mention a whole month for Earl Grey Tea and Iced Tea.

It seems that celebrating Tea is a festivity that should be happening all throughout the year! And since tea is the most consumed drink in the world (after water) no one is even going to complain.

Literally hundreds of varieties of tea are in existence, from those that are gently dried and cured to those that go through complex processes that can include long stays in caves. The nights are tasteless without you: part 6 ~ Ari Levinson fic

A/N - This is my first proper multiple chapter story which came to me while watching a Bollywood movie. It is set in Mumbai India where Ari is a professor at a university meets a person of colour - Marathi girl at the train station. There will be other Chris Evans characters as professors and Henry Cavill   characters as professors

Ari's alarm rang, making him moan as the noise was too loud. He yawned, getting up and rubbing his eyes walking towards the bathroom. He had a massive headache and quickly showered, brushed his teeth before making a strong cup of coffee.

20 minutes later he was sitting in his car driving to work, there was so much traffic all the horn sounds were making his head hurt. While sitting in traffic, he opened the glove compartment and took two ibuprofen and downed the last of his coffee. 

Shortly after, he arrived at the university. Ari parked his car, grabbing his bag and ID, putting on his sunglasses before walking in. He scanned his ID, going through the barriers and rushed straight to the staff room for another cup of coffee. 

He poured himself a large mug of coffee, taking his sunglasses off and walked over to Steve, Jenson, Andy, Clark and Frank who all stood near the vending machine. He said his hello looking at everyone just staring at him. Steve broke the silence and spoke, 

"How did the wife take it that you came home drunk," Steve said, patting his back and getting Ari to choke on his coffee. 

"What? I'm not married. What are you talking about," Ari said, his eyes widened looking at the men all shocked. 

"So who was the lady who kept calling you last night then," Jenson said curiously, thinking he would have a shot with her. Ari grabbed his phone out of his back pocket and looked at the calls from last night, and blushed.  

"Look he is blushing just thinking of her," Frank said, making the others chuckle. 

"Yeah Ari tell us who she is," Steve said, elbowing Ari.

"It's no one guys, just a friend," Ari said not wanting to talk about this anymore. 

"Was it the girl you were moaning in your sleep," Jensen said, making Ari quirk an eyebrow at him.

"What, when did I do that," Ari said, confused about the whole situation. Jensen took his phone out and played a video of Ari sleeping in the back of the car and August holding his head up, you can hear him moan her name. Ari blushed, wanting to disappear into a black whole, while few of the others laughed. 

"Oh no, Ari has a crush," Colin and Jensen said in unison, making Ari again blush, his feelings for Nadfy growing stronger. 

"So Ari who is she, if she is not your wife. We are all friends here," Frank said. 

"She is just a friend, I met her at the train station on my first day to work. The way she walked onto the platform, her hair blowing in the wind. It took my breath away,"

"You are in love, you are in love," Clark sang, and everyone chuckled singing along.

"No guys, stop it" he said, wanting to hide away from the rowdy schoolboy kids who are professors. The university bell rang, and most of the teachers left to go teach while Ari and Andy had the first period off so went to the canteen to get some food.

"Everything ok Ari," Andy said sitting down with a bowl of chaat in front of him.

"Kinda man, you know Maddy. You know the girl you met at the clothes shop. I like her a lot," Ari quickly said, taking a few gulps of his coffee. 

"That's nice, have you asked her out," Andy said after taking another spoonful of chaat in his mouth. 

"No man, what if she will reject me," Ari said, scratching the back of his head. 

"I don't think she will, why don't you try," Andy said, letting Ari try some of the chaat. 

"Andy, can I ask about your love story," Ari said, seeing a huge smile across Andy's face. 

"Of course you can, we have been married for 4 years this Saturday. I met her at a Gujarati festival navratri 6 years ago. My close friends where all going to this festival and wanted me to join them. I was reluctant at first but then putting the Indian outfit on and learning dandiya with my friends was so fun. I saw Y/N dance, doing all those intricate moves that mesmerized me. I even asked her to do dandiya with me, at first she said no but later on joined my friends and it was love at first sight," Andy said his heart beating fast and a high grin plastered on his face. 

"That all sounds wonderful Andy, what does she do," Ari said watching Andy talk with such joy in his voice. 

"She is my cutie 5ft nerd. She is a web designer/coder working for World India, here let me show you some pictures," Andy said, grabning his phone and unlocking it to show Ari pictures of his wife, smiling while explaining each photo. 

"She looks beautiful Andy, I want the same with Maddy," he said looking at Andy's smile shutting his phone.

"Ari you like Maddy a lot, I can see from the way you talk about her to me. Ask her out man, if you don't then how will she know you like her," Andy said seeing Ari look nervous and worried.

"I haven't ask out a girl in a long time, what if she says no," Ari said rubbing his eyes, yawning. 

"Why don't you facetime her, talk about random things first then tell her you really like her and like to go on a date. See where the conversation goes and take it from there," Andy said, getting up to get a little more chaat. 

"If she agrees, any ideas for a first date. I haven't dated anyone in 4 years," Ari said looking at Andy who was willing to help him out. 

"You could call her to your place and cook for her. Make something simple and talk about life back home. Make the date comfortable for the both off you," Andy said and Ari nodded his head somewhat agreeing to what he said. 

"What shall I cook her, I'm not a great cook you know," Ari said scratching the back of his head. 

"Simple, let me send you a recipe I made my wife on the first date, it was tacos and she loved it," Andy said smiling at Ari who looked nervous. 

"I love tacos, they shouldn't be that hard to make, do send me the recipe," Ari said thinking of making some margaritas to drink. 

"Oh and Ari, if you run through any issues, send me a text and my wife and I will come over to help out," Andy said looking at his watch to see it was nearly time for his lesson. 

"Oh before we leave to go teach, I have been talking about you a lot to my wife and she would like to invite you over for dinner. If you're free on Thursday evening, I can take you straight after class. She is making her famous Khichdi and Kadhi, you will love it," Andy said and Ari grabbed his phone to look at his calendar to see if he was free and agreed to come over for dinner. 

Both of them went opposite directions to their class to start teaching. It was going to be a long day and all Ari could think about was Maddy.
