The interest rates (12–15%) applicable on FD loans are also lower than personal loans. This loan is also easily available immediately. Also, there is no need to submit many documents to the bank for this. Savings also remain intact along with debt.

Why do you think tumblr will die in only a few years?
Answer with jargon: a strong correlation between recent economic shifts and chaotic choices by major tech companies is most easily explained if the 'traditional' social media platforms of 2005-2020 are mostly a zero-interest rate phenomenon.
Longer answer, with less jargon: Even though Musk's takeover is making all the headlines recently, the last year has in fact seen major shakeups at many social media platforms, so Twitter is actually part of a trend. Almost inevitably, these are cases of social media companies trying to find a way to squeeze more money out of their userbase (Reddit), cut costs dramatically (Twitter), or both. This marks a sudden departure from a much more relaxed attitude towards revenue in the Pictures Of Cats industry, where the focus was historically more on expanding the userbase to a global scale and then counting on world domination to sort of <????> and then the company would become profitable eventually.
We joke, correctly, that Tumblr has never been profitable. But the entire structure of ad-supported content curation between human users is deeply suspect as a business model; IIRC Twitter was never profitable either, and Facebook has been juicing its numbers in very shenanigany ways. Discord was actually making money on net last I checked, at least a bit, so they're not all completely in the hole. But even if you take the accounting figures at face value, none of these companies has anything like the amount of money that their cultural prominence would suggest. Instead, they're heavily fueled by investment dollars, money given by super-rich people and institutions in the expectation that fueling the growth of the company now will pay off with interest later.
So what changed?
I'm not an expert here, but I'll do my best to muddle through. The American Federal Reserve has one mandate that dominates all others (sometimes called the 'dual mandate'), and one primary tool that it uses to enforce that mandate. The goal is to maintain low (but nonzero) rates of inflation and unemployment, which in their models are deeply interlinked phenomena. The tool is 'rate hikes', or more specifically, tweaking the mandatory rate of interest that banks charge one another when making loans.
As a particular consequence of this, hiking the rate also means that bonds start paying out much better. When the rate hike goes through, that affects people who let the government borrow their personal cash- that is, people who buy bonds- as well as institutions like banks that lend to one another. A rate hike means that you, personally, can make a little extra money by letting the government borrow it for a while. The federal government of the US is a rock-solid low-risk choice for this kind of moneymaking scheme, so the federal interest rate sort of defines the 'number to beat'; to attract investors, a company has to give those investors money at a better percentage than whatever the feds are offering. Particularly since a company is a lot more likely to go out of business than the state!
To wrap this back around to the Pictures Of Cats industry: the higher the rate hike, the better your company needs to be doing (or the less risky it needs to be as an option) to attract big investment dollars. Very high rates make it very hard to convince people to invest in business activity rather than the government itself, and very low rates put moonshots and big dreams on the table, investment-wise, in a way that wouldn't otherwise be possible. Social media companies were one of these big dreams.
In the great financial crisis of 2008, the Fed took the dramatic step of reducing their rate to zero, trying to juice the economy back to life. And ever since then, they've kept it there. This has produced an unprecedented amount of funding for very crazy stuff; it's part of what has allowed so many weird new tech companies (Uber, streaming services, etc.) to get so much money, so quickly, and use that to grow to massive size without a clear model of how they're ever going to make money. This state of affairs kept going for quite a while, with no clear stopping point; that zero-interest environment has been one of the shadowy forces in the background that shaped fundamental contours and limits in how our Very Online World has grown and developed. Until COVID.
Or rather, the bounce back from COVID: we suddenly saw a massive spike in inflation and an incredibly strong labor market, as employees quit in record numbers, negotiated higher salaries, and found better work, and at the same time supply chain issues and other economy stuff caused prices to climb dramatically. Recall the Fed's 'dual mandate', to control the employment rate and inflation. This was, basically, kicking them right in the jooblies. They responded in kind, finally finally raising their rates for the first time in 15 years. For some of the people reading this, it'll be the first significant shift in their entire adult lives.
The goal, as I understand it, is to fight inflation by reducing the amount of outside investment into private companies, forcing them to hire fewer people and pay smaller salaries, ultimately drawing money out of the working economy and driving prices back down by lowering demand for everything. You get paid less, so you eat out less, and buy at cheaper restaurants when you do, so restaurants have to compete harder by lowering their prices; seems pretty dodgy to me as a theory, but it's the theory. And the first part will almost certainly work- companies are going to see less investment.
For social media companies that are still paying most of their salaries with investor dollars instead of revenues, this is especially catastrophic. Without outside investment, they're just a massive pile of expenses waiting to happen, huge yearly costs in developer salaries and server fees. This is why, all of a sudden, every social media company is suddenly making bonkers decisions. They're noticing that nobody wants to give them any more money! So they're trying to figure out how to live a lot more cheaply, to actually somehow for reals turn their giant userbases in to some kind of actual revenue stream, or both.
Tumblr is kind of the ur-example of this kind of thing, supporting a very large userbase with no coherent plan whatsoever to start paying its staff with our dollars instead of investors' dollars. When interest rates were low and Scrooge McDuck had nowhere else to hide his pile of gold coins, a crazy kid with a dream was the best alternative available to him. But now, unless something changes, he's going to notice he can just buy bonds instead, and that crazy kid can go take a hike.
That's why I think Tumblr is living on borrowed time, though I don't know how much. Like all cartoons, the economy doesn't really fall off a cliff until somebody looks down and notices they've been standing on thin air this whole time. But they always fall eventually; that's the gag.

chapter 3
Margot couldn’t stop thinking about what Maria had said. There was no way that Yoongi had been in love with her back then. She would have noticed. Wouldn’t she? Or surely he would have said something? But no, that didn’t sound like Yoongi. He wasn’t one for bold proclamations. He’d always favored more subtle gestures of affection like bringing her her favorite drink when she was stressed or letting her pick the activity, but those were all platonic. Nothing had ever come from them. She’d never even dreamed that something would come from their friendship, not in that way at least. They’d just been friends, and that’s all she thought they’d ever be.
It made no sense to her to try to pursue something romantic during her time abroad when she knew that she’d be leaving. Her departure date had been looming over the friendship the entire time she’d known him. They’d both known that eventually she’d go home. It was the natural thing to do, and there was no way that Yoongi, practical as he was, would have developed feelings for her when he had known that she was going to leave.
She on the other hand was not so practical and neither was the crush she’d had on him back then. It was partially why their falling out had been so hard on her.
It had broken her heart in a lot of ways to leave when she had. She’d had to leave Maria and Tae-il. She’d had to leave all her new friends. She’d had to leave Yoongi, but she’d had a life waiting for her back home, and she couldn’t stay. That didn’t make leaving any easier though. It was also what made accepting what she now knew about Yoongi so  hard.
Tae-il had described a sort of loan shark operation run by the local gangs. They’d give you a loan when the bank wouldn’t, but the interest rates were criminally high, and the consequences of not repaying your debt were brutal.
Tae-il hadn’t had any other choice though. Maria’s hospital bills had to be paid, and insurance wouldn’t cover everything. The bank had refused to give him a loan, and with no relatives he could turn to, he’d sought a shadier means of paying for Maria’s treatments.
What still confused Margot though was how Yoongi had gotten involved in that kind of business to begin with. He hadn’t been when she’d known him, or at least she didn’t think he had been. But the more she thought about it the more she could see how some of his personality traits might have lended themselves to his success in his chosen field.
The Yoongi she knew could be cold at times, even unfeeling when he wanted to be, and he was wickedly smart. He wasn’t the top of the class, but the way his mind worked was something else. He always knew what to do, always knew how to make the best possible outcome a reality. There wasn’t a problem he couldn’t figure out if he put his mind to it. She always thought that trait would take him far. She just hadn’t imagined that it would be far into the underbelly of society.
She was home for the evening, helping Tae-il around the restaurant, when she was shaken from her thoughts by the sound of Tae-il trying to whisper to someone but failing.
She looked over curiously, and all the blood drained from her face as she saw just who Tae-il was talking to.
There stood Yoongi, completely nonplussed by the older man’s ire. In fact, he looked perfectly relaxed, and he wasn’t even looking at Tae-il. His gaze was firmly fixed on her.
“Tae-il-ssi.” she came over, placing a gentle hand on his arm, telling him without words to step back and let her handle it. Even if Yoongi and her weren’t on the best of terms, they were still on better terms than he and Tae-il seemed to be.
“Margot,” Yoongi greeted her, a small smile on the corner of his lips.
“What are you doing here?” she asked, standing firm with her arms crossed under her chest despite her apprehension.
“I came to take you to dinner.” he shrugged, seemingly unaffected by how they’d parted the last time even if she wasn’t.
“I don’t want to go to dinner with you, Yoongi.” Her tone was soft but firm as she held her position. She didn’t want to seem combative, to spark an argument, but she wanted him in no doubt of the fact that she wanted him gone. “You should go.”
The grin fell from his face, but just as Margot was doing her best to remain non-confrontational, so was Yoongi. He knew she was upset, and he didn’t want to do anything to exacerbate that, but he still wanted to see her, to plead his case. He needed to plead his case.
“I know you’re upset, but,” he began, and her whole body tensed, her eyes flashing ready to fight at the thought of him trying to explain her own feelings to her. “I would like the chance to apologize.” she didn’t say anything, watching him warily. “Please.”
She sighed, uncrossing her arms and trying to figure out a way to get him out of there. “I can’t go to dinner with you.”
Yoongi tilted his head to the side, sizing her up and analyzing to see what the hold up was, why she wouldn’t join him. “Not even one dinner for an old friend?” she inhaled sharply, prickled by the reminder of their friendship and how abruptly the comradery had failed upon their reunion. “Not even to let me explain myself?” She wrapped her arms around herself again as if to shield herself from him. “Come on, jagi.” Her head shot up at the term of endearment. “One dinner won’t kill you.”
“Yoongi…”
“One dinner.” He promised, though he had no intention of keeping it.
“Margot-ah!” a new voice entered the conversation, drawing Yoongi and Margot’s attention away from each other, and to the rather dashing young man who had stepped in with an easy going grin spread across his face.
“Namjoon-ssi.” she greeted, relieved for the interruption.
“Are you ready to go?” He asked.
“Go?” she asked, mildly confused with Yoongi echoing, his eyes darkened as he glanced between the two of them, mind whirling with the possibilities of why she would be going with him.
“Our date.” Namjoon replied easily. “You didn’t forget did you?”
“Our… date…” she spoke slowly, her mind trying to catch up to what he was saying. “Our date! Of course! How silly of me!” she plastered on a bright smile, relief washing over her at the easy exit from her conversation with Yoongi. “Let me just go grab my purse, and I’ll be ready to go, yeah?”
She scampered away, leaving Namjoon and Yoongi alone together, one still with an easy going smile and the other looking two steps away from committing a crime.
“So how long have you known, Margot?” Namjoon asked conversationally. “That discussion looked a little… intense.”
Yoongi smiled. It was a dark and dangerous expression, too sharp, too feral. “Margot and I are old friends.”
“Really? I haven’t seen you around before…” Namjoon trailed off, leaving the impression hanging in the air that Namjoon thought he was lying. “But Margot-ssi is so sweet. She has lots of friends. I’m sure it’s easy to forget a few.”
Yoongi bristled at that. He knew a barb when he heard one.
“I can’t say she’s ever mentioned you either.”
“Okay, I’m ready!” Margot appeared, slightly out of breath, with purse in hand. “Shall we go?”
“Margot,” Yoongi, took her wrist, only for Namjoon to put his hand over his and remove him.
“Let’s go, Margot-ah.” Namjoon smiled, putting emphasis on the endearment and setting Yoongi’s blood to boiling as he took her arm and led her out of the restaurant, leaving Yoongi behind.
“Namjoon-ssi,” She began as they left the restaurant but was cut off quickly.
“Don’t look back.” He ordered in a hushed tone. “He’s still looking.” She looked up at him wide eyed, and he shot her an easy smile. “Just smile like we’re having a nice conversation.”
She nodded, pasting a smile onto her face as they walked in case Yoongi was still watching them and trying to ignore the uneasy feeling in her stomach at the thought of everything that was happening.
“Shit.” Namjoon muttered under his breath, having them duck into a coffee shop.
“What’s wrong?” she asked, brows pinched together in concern.
“We’ve got a tail.”
“A tail?” Her brows shot up into her hairline. “Is he following us?”
He shook his head, running a hand through his hair. “It’s not him, but you definitely have someone following you.”
“Shit.” She agreed, sinking into a seat a little floored by the news as Namjoon pulled out his phone to make a call.
She had to assume that the tail was from Yoongi. Who else would have someone follow her? But it was incredibly disconcerting. Why was he having someone follow her in the first place? What was he gaining from it? Whatever the reason was, she felt less secure than she already had.
There was a very thin balance between what she could handle and what she could not at that moment. Maria having cancer, she could handle it. Yoongi being some sort of criminal, she could not. Tae-il being in debt, she could handle it. Men following her was something that fell most definitely into the could not handle pile.
She didn’t know why Yoongi was so determined to talk to her, but it was slowly pulling at the threads of her sanity. There was only so much stress she could take before she started to snap, and the idea of someone following her was toeing the line of what she could reasonably handle.
“Hey,” Namjoon appeared with drinks in hand, finished with his phone call. “You okay? You look like you’re about to fall over.”
“Yeah…” she snapped out of her daze, gratefully accepting the drink. “I’m just feeling a little overwhelmed.”
Namjoon nodded, taking his seat. “Who was that guy back at the restaurant? Your conversation looked kinda intense.”
“He’s…” Margot stopped, not knowing what exactly to say about it. Who was Yoongi to her? He wasn’t a friend, not anymore, but what did that make him? “I don’t really know anymore.” she admitted, shrinking into her seat a little.
“Are you in trouble?” Namjoon leaned across the table, a serious expression on his face as he questioned her. “Are you in danger?”
“I don’t… I don’t know.” she shrunk even further, wrapping her arms around herself as she tried to process everything. “I haven’t… I don’t think I’ve ever been in this position before.”
“That man…”
“Yoongi.” she supplied almost automatically.
“Yoongi.” he nodded, noting down the information at the back of his head. “Is he bothering you? Has he come around before?”
Yes. He was most certainly bothering her.
She nodded. “We asked him to stay away after the incident a couple of days ago, but he showed up out of nowhere today.”
“What incident?” his frown deepened.
“Some guys came by the restaurant a couple of nights ago. They were flipping tables, making a mess. They were demanding payment on a debt Tae-il owes them apparently.”
She knew she should have felt some hesitation or shame sharing such private business with a customer, but she needed to tell someone, and Namjoon, if she remembered correctly, was a detective, making him the perfect person to tell.
Tae-il didn’t want to get the police involved, but what else could she do when someone was following her? It also helped that Namjoon was taking her so seriously.
“I’m guessing this isn’t a legal loan?”
She shook her head. “I don’t think so, at least not from what he’s told me and what’s happened since.” She sipped her drink, looking around nervously. “Is the guy still there?”
Namjoon nodded solemnly. “I called a buddy of mine on duty to come check out the area, hopefully scare him off.”
“Thank you.”
“Of course.” The smile Namjoon sent her was genuine this time, not meant to play a part to the man watching them. “I’m happy to help my favorite noodle shop worker.”
“You know I’m a teacher right?”
Namjoon rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “I know, but I only ever see you at the restaurant.”
“I would hope so. It would be concerning if you were still in elementary school.” She informed him dryly, her expression breaking into a small smile as she watched him blush. “Is there anything Tae-il and I can do?”
“There’s not a lot anyone can do unless Tae-il-ssi makes a police report. Unfortunately you don’t own the restaurant and can’t make one for him, but I am concerned that you’re being followed. Who exactly is this guy that Tae-il-ssi took a loan from?”
“Min Yoongi.”
Namjoon choked on his drink, sputtering as he tried to regain his composure. “I’m sorry, did you say Min Yoongi?” He coughed, looking at her incredulously.
“Yes?”
“When you said Yoongi I didn’t know you meant Min Yoongi!”
“You know him?”
“Know him? Everyone knows his name.”
She eyed him trying to figure out just how bad the situation was for him to be reacting like this. “That bad?”
“It’s not good.” He admitted, finally able to breathe again. “He’s a big name in Korea’s underworld.”
Her eyes widened at that. She knew he was involved in something illegal, but she hadn’t imagined that he was some sort of kingpin.
“What exactly have I gotten myself into?”
“Nothing good.” Margot didn’t like the grim set of his mouth as he spoke. It made everything seem that much worse. “You said you know him? How the hell do you know Min Yoongi?”
The question was spoken more in disbelief than it was anything else. Just like Margot couldn’t wrap her head around Yoongi being a criminal, Namjoon couldn’t wrap his head around the foreign woman from one of his favorite restaurants knowing Min Yoongi.
“We knew each other years ago when I was here to study abroad.”
“Damn.” Namjoon breathed out, leaning back in his seat. “And he still remembers you? Enough to have you followed?”
“You think that’s his doing?”
“Probably.” He admitted. “I just can’t figure out why he wants you followed. It doesn’t really make sense.” He leaned forward again, elbows resting on the table. “What did he want when he showed up today? It isn’t every day he shows up in person just for a debt.”
Margot hesitated. “He wanted to have dinner.” She started slowly. “He wanted to explain about the other night.”
“When his guys were at the restaurant?”
“No. I think it’s for the day after. He came by, and that’s when I found out he was behind the guys that messed up the restaurant.”
“He’s shown up twice in one week? To see you?” Namjoon’s brows were practically disappearing into his  hairline by this point. “Damn. Were you guys dating or something?”
“No!” Her voice cracked a little as she almost shouted the word. Why did everyone think that she and Yoongi had been something more than friends? “We never dated.”
“Have you been in contact with him since you came back to Korea?”
“No. The first time I saw him was the other night. We didn’t exactly leave things on the best of terms back then.”
“Why does he want to see you now?”
“I honestly don’t know.”

Gender change operation with extras
Tumblr media
Once upon a time, there was a young man named Tatsuo who had always felt like he was in the wrong body. He wished he could be a woman and have a female body.
Tatsuo had been assigned male at birth, but as he grew older, he began to feel like he didn't fit into his assigned gender. He would often imagine himself as a woman, dreaming of wearing dresses and makeup and being treated as such. Tatsuo struggled with these feelings for many years, feeling like he couldn't talk to anyone about it.
One day, Tatsuo decided that he couldn't keep these feelings bottled up inside anymore. He sought out therapy to help him explore his gender identity, and through a long and challenging process of self-discovery, Tatsuo came to the realization that he was actually a woman. Tatsuo decided to come out to his friends and family, explaining that he was going to begin living as a woman and seek a gender change operation.
Tatsuo was nervous about what people would think and how they would react. But to her surprise, her loved ones were supportive and understanding. Tatsuo began to take hormone replacement therapy and started dressing in feminine clothes. She felt like she was finally living as her true self, and it was a liberating feeling.
Soon after starting the hormone replacement therapy, he realized the total costs of all treatments and surgeries were too high for him to afford. He set up a meeting at his local bank, but due to rising interest rates, taking a bank loan to fund his gender change was also out of his reach.
However, his contact person at the bank knew someone who might be able to help... Next day, Tatsuo met a strange doctor who promised him a free gender change surgery. The catch was that he would have to undergo an infertility treatment at the same time! Also his treatment and pregnancy would be studied by a team of medical researchers, led by the strange doctor.
Tatsuo was hesitant at first, but the doctor convinced him that this was the best opportunity he would ever have to become a woman. Also his research might help other people in their gender change. Tatsuo agreed to the terms and underwent both surgeries.
As Tatsuo recovered from the surgeries, in a month or so she realized that something was different. She was feeling a strange sensation in his abdomen. When she went back to the doctor for a check-up, she was shocked to learn that he was more than just pregnant. She was expecting triplets!
The doctor explained that it was more common to have multiple pregnancies after infertility treatments, but Tatsuo was still overwhelmed by the news. However, with the support of her family and friends, Tatsuo decided to embrace her pregnancy and prepare for the arrival of her babies.
As Tatsuo's body changed and she felt the babies growing inside her, she began to feel a sense of joy and wonder that she had never experienced before. She felt connected to her body in a way she never had before, and she felt grateful for the opportunity to experience something so unique and special.
When the babies were born, Tatsuo held them in her arms, breast-feeding, and felt a rush of love and emotion that she had never known before. She knew that her life would never be the same again, but she was grateful for the journey that had led her to this moment.
In the end, Tatsuo realized that her gender change and triple pregnancy had given her a newfound sense of purpose and meaning in life. She was grateful for the opportunity to experience something so unique and special, and she knew that she would never take her life for granted again.

The Autumn Budget is just around the corner, and with it many businesses are bracing themselves for updates to their impending tax bills. While we may ponder what any updates will look like, whatever the changes, paying VAT and Corporation Tax remain a necessary part of running a successful business, and so they need to be considered as part of the ongoing management of any organisation.
While they may both be necessary, they can be something of a logistical or cash flow irritant from time to time, taking up resources that you would no doubt like to put to better use. However, what many businesses are unaware of is that there are Corporation Tax loans and VAT loan facilities available to help you optimise your capital management, covering those necessities without losing out on opportunities to invest in growth or keep some cash in the bank for a rainy day.

Because I feel a little better and need it out of my system:
A funnyman's recap of Blue Archive
Volume 1 Chapter 2
V1 is not that long, especially in comparison to the others. But hey, it was just the first volume, after all.
So, we got Hoshino resigning and everyone is bummed out about it. Sensei finds her and asks her about that.
She tells him the story of the student council president before her at Abydos, Yume. Despite all the bullshit, she tried her best and was always smiling.
Yume...isn't around anymore. As we find out later, Hoshino found her dead body between the dunes. It's Yume's riot shield she is using. To the last, Yume believed that Abydos could be saved while Hoshino grew more and more cynical about it.
The player, through a recap done by Ako and Hina, learns that Hoshino used to be a troublemaker, a firebrand. How she mellowed out so much is a mystery to them
Hoshino admits that Sensei is the first adult she ever trusted. How she didn't think they would be of any use when they first came to Abydos, because adults were useless to her, but Sensei has grown on her.
She fakes returning, but clears her position for good once Kaiser starts twisting her arm. They get really asshole about it, too, by randomly jacking up the interest rate because Abydos didn't want their deal.
This, Hoshino does end up striking a deal, only to get faked out and imprisoned, to be used in some experiment. Though not by Kaiser, but by someone else.
Tumblr media
Black Suit
Member of shadow organisation "Gematria"
Considers Sensei an equal, yet enigmatic individual
Is the first person that made me go "what the FUCK is going on behind the scenes?!"
Oddly affable, graceful even in defeat
Gets jokingly shipped with Sensei
It is through Sensei's first talk to him, in regards to Kaiser's fuck shit and Hoshinos kidnapping, that Sensei shows his adult card. A powerful item that saps Sensei's life force for immense power
It's just about the dopest description I've heard so far for a fucking credit card you use to roll the gacha
Anyway, Black suit is a fair sport and tells Sensei that Kaiser wants Abydos because of a treasure in the desert. Gematria fed them that info, so now they seek it intensely and at great cost.
Naturally, Hoshino is heavily guarded and Sensei's options are limited. So, they organise an assault with the four remaining girls and calls for aid from a certain girl.
You see, I committed a cardinal sin last time. I omitted a severe detail due to forgetfulness. You see, as the crew was scouting out Kaiser back in chapter 1 for a bank heist, they encountered someone running through the black market district. Someone very crucial to this part of the story and someone incredibly important to the further story.
Tumblr media
Ajitani Hifumi
Babbi
Look at her
Adorable
She considers herself a average girl
Collects merchandise from the kids show "Peroro Friends"
Peroro superfan, that freaky chicken is even her ex skill
Gets roped into minor shenanigans, bonds with Abydos girls
Comes in clutch with a paper bag on her head, calling herself "Faust of the Masked Swimsuit Gang"
Modified Enfield Assault Rifle "My Necessity"
Hifumi is the one Sensei contacts for help, as she has a surprising connection to one of the higher-ups at her school. Said bigwig tells Sensei in no uncertain terms that they intend to cash in on the favour they owe Trinity with this.
And then they rain down artillery on Kaiser positions.
Brilliance.
Problem Silver also gets involved, with Haruka giggling menacingly before blowing through enemy ranks and Mutsuki going feral over people annoying "glasses girl" (Ayane)
Look at these pics from the summer event. Ayane is very adorable, so I can understand Mutsuki fully.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hoshino gets freed, hope against hope, and she realises that Abydos is her home and will remain her home. Simply because those dearest to her are all there, waiting for her.
All is well that ends well, as Kaiser takes a hit, makes concessions to Abydos and the head of the Loans department flees in disgrace as the Media has a field day with all the info that got leaked.
Still, something great and terrible is on the horizon already...

Short Term Loans UK Low-Interest: Variations in Lender Terms and Conditions
Tumblr media
People may need to look through a large number of company names before they find one when they finally put in the effort to find a direct bank that offers short term loans UK. For people that prioritize working with loan specialists, have previously worked with one, or have heard positive things about a certain company, their search is quite straightforward. In order to obtain the greatest credit practices, some people could go directly to their bank. You might end up using your bank or finding a reputable short term loans UK direct lender expert with cheap interest rates, depending on how you appear.
Should you reach the end of your loan term and find that you do not have sufficient funds in your account to reimburse the short term loans UK, you will face several challenges. If the assets aren't available, your bank will charge you an overdraft fee. The advance firm will try to swap the assets from your record. At that point, the creditor will charge you a fee for failing to pay the advance and carry it over to the following pay period. Your debt will continue to grow as a result of the high interest rates that will continue to be applied to the credit.
Family finances have been managed by people for a long time with limited or nonexistent charge card use. Some folks don't require a debit card; they just appreciate making payments with short term cash loans. Some persons were unable to use credit because they misused it or made mistakes with the obligation partition. Credit-tested people approach quite a bit of what the credit customers of the world have had easily accessible, since the majority of bank platinum cards may also be used as Master Cards. There's no sense of accumulated intrigue or fear of obligations. Charge cards directly deduct payment from your account balance. You will be responsible for overdraft fees and dealer non-funding fees if you are unable to make the installment payment.
You may require something as simple as basic supplies suddenly running out, or you may need something more substantial like extra money to pay for a wedding band or a big festival. Even though you may be certain that you can pay back any platinum card advances by your next paycheck, these advances come with a lot of risks. The repayment period for these short term loans UK direct lender is typically fourteen days, and the interest rate is typically between fifteen and thirty percent over that period. Though translated into an annual percentage rate (APR), that is an incredible 390 percent to 780 percent - far, absolutely more than the most over the top Visa charges. That may not appear like much more than charge card financing fees.
Since you can now compare loans online, getting turned down by your bank doesn't mean the end of the world. Classic Quid is one of many lenders that could be able to provide you with a short term loans direct lenders even if your credit score isn't the best. Because we recognize that your past financial performance may not accurately reflect your current circumstances, lenders will consider your current financial status when determining whether you will likely be able to repay a £1,000 loan if you have poor credit.

Best Documentary Short Film Nominees for the 96th Academy Awards (2024, listed in order of appearance in the shorts package)
This blog, since 2013, has been the site of my write-ups to the Oscar-nominated short film packages – a personal tradition for myself and for this blog. This omnibus write-up goes with my thanks to the Regency South Coast Village in Santa Ana, California for providing all three Oscar-nominated short film packages.
If you are an American or Canadian resident interested in supporting the short film filmmakers in theaters (and you should, as very few of those who work in short films are as affluent as your big-name directors and actors), check your local participating theaters here.
Without further ado, here are the nominees for the Best Documentary Short Film at this year’s Oscars. The write-ups for the Live Action and Animated Short categories are coming soon. Non-American films predominantly in a language other than English are listed with their nation(s) of origin.
Năi Nai & Wài Pó (2023)
Rarely do both sides of one’s family ever meet. You might expect them to mingle at weddings and funerals. But cohabitation? Such is the case with Taiwanese American director Sean Wang’s two grandmothers in Năi Nai & Wài Pó (paternal and maternal grandmother, respectively), available worldwide on Disney+ and Hulu. Wishing to live closer to family, Wang moved in with his grandmothers Yi Yan Fuei (Năi Nai) and Chang Li Hua (Wài Pó) in their California household during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. His grandmothers rarely leave the house, even for groceries, and keep their heavy curtains drawn at all hours. As thin beams of sunlight barely stream through the interior’s earthy colors, both grandmothers continue to read the newspaper, sing traditional Chinese music, do their own cooking (I assume someone drops off groceries for them), tease each other about farting in bed, and reflect on their families and their pasts. They know that there are fewer tomorrows remaining, but that will not stop them from living joyously and with love for their grandson, who, though off-screen, they converse with throughout the shoot.
Qualifying for the Academy Awards by wining Best Documentary Short at SXSW in 2023 (in addition to the equivalent prize at AFI Fest), Năi Nai & Wài Pó freely admits that its subjects are playing up their act for their grandson. Observational cinema this is not. But in their sense of exaggerated play there exists a twofold acknowledgement. First, as Năi Nai states, “the days we spend feeling pain and the days we spend feeling joy are the same days spent. So, I’m going to choose joy.” And perhaps most meaningfully to Wang, their playing for the camera is one of many ways they express their love for their grandson. It is an elevated home video, a loving portrait, and a reminder to cherish those who loved us into being.
My rating: 7.5/10
The Barber of Little Rock (2023)
People Trust in Little Rock, Arkansas is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). In other words, it is a non-profit – partially funded by the American federal government – to address issues in creating economic growth and opportunities in some of the most underserved communities in the nation through loans, emergency financial assistance, and housing subsidies. People Trust and its President, Arlo Washington, are the subjects of The Barber of Little Rock (available for free online through The New Yorker), directed by John Hoffman (2021’s Fauci) and Christine Turner (2021’s Lynching Postcards: 'Token of A Great Day'). The film, Oscar-qualified by winning the Grand Prize for Documentary Short at Indy Shorts International Film Festival (Indiana), requires a wealth of context to the issues that it raises, but does not always provide enough – especially how municipal, state, and regional history impacts racism in banking, and vice versa.
Arlo Washington is a fascinating, wonderfully-intentioned person, but the movie spends too much time with him directly stating the piece’s thesis about financial equality and generational poverty to the camera. Most compelling of all were some of the individual appointments at People Trust of regular people simply looking for financial relief or a loan to kickstart a business or make their rent payments. So too Washington's barbering training school – especially a scene when two students are asked to look intently at the other’s faces, to understand the other’s struggles simply through quiet observation. Arlo Washington figures in many of these scenes as well, and those scenes reveal as much, if not more, about the lives of People Trust’s clients than any of his brief lectures can accomplish. Hoffman and Turner clearly had deeply cinematic material to work with that could empower their messaging, and it is a shame they are unable to fully utilize it.
My rating: 7/10
Island in Between (2023, Taiwan)
Ten kilometers away from the Chinese city of Xiamen lies Kinmen, a group of islands under control of Taiwan (the island of Taiwan is 187 kilometers away). Directed and narrated by S. Leo Chiang and distributed by The New York Times, Island in Between is Chiang’s meditation on not only Kinmen’s precarious geography and its political status, but his own identity of being American, Chinese, and Taiwanese – three separate identities that interconnect, but are forever distinct. Like many viewers, I was unaware of Kinmen’s existence before viewing Island in Between. This film is most valuable in introducing audiences to a place in some ways frozen in the mid-twentieth century, not so much capturing the spirit of the place and understanding its history.
During visits to mainland China in the late 2000s, Chiang, Taiwanese-born and American-raised, was struck by how vibrant the mainland was – something unrecognizable from “the communist wasteland [he] learned about in school.” In the years since, the crackdown on Hong Kong’s democracy, the COVID-19 pandemic, and increased political tensions between China and Taiwan have complicated his feelings towards the mainland. As a Vietnamese American, I easily saw parallels between how the younger diaspora views our so-called “motherland”, what we are taught, and how older generations perceive their original home. Even among generations, there are divisions in how we feel about the motherland. But Chiang has the additional complication of being caught between three nations important to his being. If anything, his mentions about his parents and their views feels far too cursory, as they are the ones most responsible for shaping his views about American/Chinese/Taiwanese tensions. One hopes this film is not a harbinger of things to come, as beached tanks rust on the placid Kinmen shore.
My rating: 7/10
The ABCs of Book Banning (2023)
As of the publication of this omnibus write-up, bans and challenges to books in libraries and schools have spiked since 2021. These book challenges, often taken up by parents and certain religious organizations, have disproportionately targeted books by and/or about LGBTQ+ and non-white (especially black) people. Stepping into the debate is MTV Documentary Films’ The ABCs of Book Banning (available on Paramount+), directed by Sheila Nevins, Trish Adlesic, and Nazenet Habtezgh. Unfortunately, the film advocates against book challenges in the most stultifyingly artless way. Early on, a title card reveals that the filmmakers will ask about book banning and restrictions from a group that we have heard little from: children. An honorable approach, but the interview snippets found in The ABCs of Book Banning are repetitive and seem rehearsed – children, aghast at the notion that a selected book is a target, offer reasons why book banning is a terrible idea. Nothing Americans have not heard before. Breaking up their interviews are images of book covers, followed by a brief quotation from said book, and an amateurish “BANNED” or “CHALLENGED” banner in red over the book. Sometimes, cheap animation depicting that book’s passage appears; the placement of these animated sequences has no rhyme or reason.
Damningly, this is a film in search of a structure. A handful of authors whose books have been banned from libraries or schools show up to introduce themselves over what appears to be an interview over Zoom. They say a few sentences about why book banning is terrible and we never hear from them again in the film – a complete waste. I suspect these authors recorded longer interviews, but there is almost nothing that remains of those interviews in the final product. This is a film for those who agree with its premise, have no cinematic taste, and are tediously self-satisfied in how they express their political views.
My rating: 4/10
The Last Repair Shop (2023)
The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is the last major city school district in the United States to offer free musical instrument repair to its students. From the Los Angeles Times and Searchlight Pictures comes Ben Proudfoot and Kris Bowers’ The Last Repair Shop (also available on Disney+ and Hulu), which takes us to LAUSD’s repair shop. Just short of the 40-minute limit for short films, The Last Repair Shop curiously tells the viewer preciously little about the shop itself (what are the challenges it is facing, and why is the last of its kind?). Proudfoot and Bowers – both previously nominated in this category for A Concerto Is a Conversation (2021; also available online thanks to The New York Times) – adopt much of the same style as their previous nominee. Both films share talking heads in shallow focus and snappy editing. These aspects sometimes made A Concerto Is a Conversation incohesive, but they work immensely better for The Last Repair Shop. It also helps that The Last Repair Shop, which slowly reveals itself to also be a portrait of a rarely-seen side to L.A., has a clear structure that the viewer can discern early on.
What carries The Last Repair Shop are the life-affirming conversations we have with the four principal interview subjects, all of whom work in a different department at the shop – Dana Atkinson (strings), Paty Moreno (brass), Duane Michaels (woodwinds), and Steve Bagmanyan (pianos; also the shop supervisor, and who inspired the film as he tuned pianos at Bowers’ high school). Whether they play an instrument or not, all four recognize music’s ability to better understand ourselves and others, and as “one of the best things that humans do.” The addition of student voices to the film – especially when one realizes that the repair shop employees almost never hear back from the children whose instruments they repair – strengthens a connection, however distant, through music. The Last Repair Shop’s final minutes provide it that final cinematic touch you might have anticipated, an affirmation of why those who speak the language of music hold it so dear.
My rating: 8.5/10
