WOWIE It’s been over three years almost since the last time this fic updated - but as we all know, life finds a way…to get in the way of things, BUT! My collaboration with PercyByssheShelley from the @do-it-with-style-events 2021 Reverse Bang finally has its third and final chapter posted!

Go send Bysshe some love, as they were the one who had to go back through the written draft and zhuzh it up to get the chapter ready for posting (all I had to do was embed the illustration). And an especial shout-out to @chernozemm for commenting a very nice comment that ultimately compelled me to reach back out to Bysshe. Alongside the 199 year anniversary of the death of Percy Shelley, this week also see the birth of other notable instances of 18th and 19th century Gothic horror 9th July 1764, birth of English author and pioneer of the Gothic Novel Ann Radcliffe. Best known for the work ‘The Mysteries of Udolpho’ published in 1794, and cited as the archetypal Gothic Novel. Radcliffe’s technique of matching supernatural and psychological terror, alongside vivid descriptions of travelling within gothic landscapes, propelled the Gothic novel into respectability in the 1790s. 9th July 1775, birth of English novelist and dramatist Matthew Gregory Lewis, known as M.G. Lewis, and often referred to as "Monk" Lewis, due to the success of his gothic novel, ‘The Monk: A Romance’ published in 1796. The scandal and controversy of the novel's themes of perceived blasphemy, violence, immorality and supernaturalism; resulted in harsh critiques of Lewis being a ‘reckless defiler of the public mind’, and devoting the ‘fruits of his mind to the propagation of evil’. Despite these criticisms the novel was very highly successful, absorbed by an 18th century reading public eager to be terrified and scandalized by the new gothic fictional form. 10th July 1792, birth of Captain Frederick Marryat; British Royal Navy officer, friend of Charles Dickens and author of the gothic novel ‘ The Phantom Ship’. Marryat is also credited as an early pioneer of the sea story.
