#Percy saw Jason as more than just Jupiter's son

I was having a good day until I realized how much objectifying Jason was subjected to, So many people just saw him as an object.
He was literally like placed like a historical artifact at Camp Jupiter because of his dad, everyone there only saw him as a legend, not as a person with real feelings. Camp Jupiter was all worshippy with him while he was there but was quick to turn on him after he disappeared, thinking he was dead and didn't even hold a funeral or anything, just moved on with zero thought of him and replaced him like he was some kind of statue.
Even Percy felt bad for staying at Jason's praetor room because he felt terrible for taking Jason's place just like that. So you just know how nonchalant people where when it came to Jason's disappearance. Nobody spoke of him fondly, no one bothered about Jason's wellbeing, To them, he was simply a chess piece that helped them succeed but they didn't care about his fate as long as they got a better replacement.
Please don't get me started on how Piper "claimed" Jason to drew without his knowledge like he was a prize or something. ("Stay away from Jason Grace, he's mine he just doesn't know it yet" Piper honey wtf was that 😭) only to dump him and be SO outwardly bitchy and hostile acting like she got dumped or something, post break up after he was fully in love with her. (Which is something she ironically said she would never do because, as she put it, she was "much different" than other Aphrodite girls) she ended up being more of a heartbreaker than drew herself.
Jason was also, as hazel put it, considered as Hera's pawn to stop gaia's plan.
Zeus didn't care about his death, because to him, Jason is simply one of the many children he has. He doesn't care of he loses one because he has plenty of other sons and daughters to carry his legacy.
Poor jason was just discarded like scrap after his purpose was fulfilled.

Question. do you think Percy should have stayed Single? Or ended up with somebody other than Annabeth? I Really think he should have stayed Single. Because I personally don't Like Percabeth, I don't Ship Percabeth and I don't Like Annabeth at all because of the way the Shippers act, or The way the characters themselves in Canon Act, like how Percy just does whatever Annabeth says, or how Percy is scared of Annabeth, Or how fans make it seem like Percy would become an Emo Edge Lord if something happened to Annabeth, Or How much she Belittles and Degrades him (I hate the nickname Seaweed brain), Especially since she acts like Percy cant do anything without her That moment when She and Reyna were talking about how ("Percy Couldn't find his way out of a Paper Bag without you")Made me SO mad it made me Dislike Annabeth even more and Dislike the Percabeth Ship as a Whole, I even hated when she Pretty much Restricted percy of using his powers You Know? "The sea doesn't like to be Restrained" well here it is.. being restrained...Exactly what it hates, and I hate how the Fandom makes Percabeth a Godly Ship saying they are the "It Couple" which they aren't and how They treat anyone who doesn't like Percabeth or Ships Percy with someone else other then Annabeth, but the one thing I HATE the most is how they make EVERYTHING percy Does Romantic for Annabeth like she's the only person who matters to him (Percy Only Remembering Annabeth (a Girl he's Known for only a couple years) Instead of The woman Who RAISED him by a goddess who isn't even the goddess of Love Made me SO MAD and Even when Annabeth made Percy remember when he was in the River Styx when it should have been his Mom made me mad) which is why I mostly believe that Percy Should have just stayed Single (I'm all for an Aromantic Percy) or At least Give him a Love interest who he can be Comfortable around and doesn't have to Constantly walk on Eggshells around her (I wished he Dated Rachel) or Hell Even make him Gay i've saw characters who have Better chemistry with Percy then Annabeth IMO but this all just my opinion.
You honestly don't know how long I could rant on this exact subject.
It's partly Annabeth's fault, and it's partly Rick's fault.
Anyone and everyone who has read the Pjo and HoO series should have noticed how illogical Percy's personality change was.
Percy Jackson, the hero of Olympus and the strongest demigod to ever live, sassy as can be, laid back but scary beyond measure if you cross him and an absolute menace to his enemies and loyal to death.
That's who he is, and Rick remembered that initially, and even till Son of Neptune then he just forgot how Percy someone he himself wrote to be this way is.
It's like Percy has no identity of his own, and he is only significant if he is with Annabeth. Like hello, he's the main character people, is the Fandom seriously going to degrade the main character, especially when the said mc is Percy Jackson???
Percy, despite his own issues, is and will always be foremost in helping people. He would be the first person to help keep the seven together. He would be the first to try and make a bond. He wouldn't have some stupid and illogical and totally ooc beef with Jason. Instead, he would help Jason be more sure of himself to stand up to Jupiter and for himself.
He would help Leo personally to bring back Calypso and they would both shit talk Olympians and how fickle their oaths are.
He would literally do anything to save Nico. Like hello, are you telling me that the boy who at 14 took it upon himself to bear the Great Prophecy, which he thought who end up killing him just to save Nico from that fate????? He would go absolutely madly feral to save Nico from the Giants.
If Piper and Reyna had their screws all properly fit they would see that Annabeth and literally everyone else would be all left to die if it wasn't for Percy. Percy gets himself out of everything by his own efforts and his own strategies. (Annabeth's rarely work). It's time the Fandom acknowledges that the best strategist in the verse is Percy, no questions asked and finally give him due credit for all HIS efforts.
Percy would never ever leave Sally unless it was for a quest, especially not when she was pregnant and absolutely not to go to college, something he hates especially when it concerns New Rome.
Here's a thing about Percabeth shippers they care about Annabeth's plans and her dreams, not Percy's. It is literally so out of character for Percy to want to live in New Rome a place that invests in a child army, a place that despises his father and wouldn't even build him a decent temple, a place so extremely cut off from the sea.
If Percy wanted to live in peace and grow old, he would do it in a place of his choosing close to his mother, Paul and Estelle, and close to the sea. But here's the thing about Percy.
I don't think people get this, but Percy can't just up and leave, nor would he want to. His damned fatal flaw is LOYALTY. He would never ever leave demigods or anyone helpless by leaving Camp Half Blood. Sure he would take less quests on but he would ALWAYS stick around and Rick did him so dirty by making all his thoughts revolve around Annabeth and insinuating he would let others suffer just fine to be with Annabeth.
Percy gave up immortality because he took Sally's teaching to heart as she did so too when she denied Poseidon's offer. He did it for himself for demigods it didn't have shit to do with Annabeth, but of course, he would look at her because she represents his life as a demigod.
Rick making Percy see Annabeth near the Styx and making him remember Annabeth instead of Sally is just him bullshitting. We all know Percy is a mama's boy, and he would do right by Sally always, so him giving a girl who he has known for barely long enough has no basis to it.
And Percabeth stans literally can't take a mention of a single alternate Percy pairing that alone is the biggest red flag. Because they know their ship is toxic and that Annabeth is the root of it.
For the PEOPLE IN THE BACK aka toxic stans:
Annabeth's fatal flaw is HUBRIS, and she is by nature controlling and condescending, and her character had the chance to GROW and CHANGE, and it would have been the most epic character growth sequel but she did not and she is CONTROLLING, DISMISSIVE , DEMEANING.
The newest Read Riordan entry literally has Annabeth saying that she needs to catch up to Percy cause he scores a better grade than her in school (even there Percy is smarter folks there you have it) and she literally says if she doesn't catch up Percy might start calling her SEAWEED BRAIN. So it is a demeaning nickname she gives Percy and continues calling him that even after knowing how Gabe similarly verbally abused Percy.
This is the fandom's IT couple? Wow. Percy literally is going against his own nature of being free and unrestrained like the sea because of Annabeth's controlling nature.
The worst of her behavior is when she blames Percy for his disappearance when she dismissed him when he was talking about his trauma induced by Gabe, her beyond toxic treatment of Rachel, especially when she unreasonably asked Percy to supress the use of the very power that got them out alive (she is scared naturally but she cannot force her own fear on Percy when he did nothing wrong).
So yeah, Percy Jackson with anyone but Annabeth. I am all for aromantic Percy, but personally, I find Perachel to be more appealing.
Trust me, I could rant about this for hours, especially how Rick butchered Percy's personality and made it full of Annabeth, especially how he threw Percy's insecurities and trauma and PTSD out of the gutter post tartarus.
#pjo headcanons#smart percy jackson#percy jackson is a strategic genius and i won't stop talkinb about it till everyone gets that#percabeth is not it#perachel is the best percy ship hands down#percy and annabeth#anti annabeth chase#percy jackson supremacy#anti percabeth#sally and percy#jason and percy#leo and percy#Percy and Nico#son of neptune#heroes of olympus#percy jackson and the olympians

jason grace x daughter of poseidon ⚡️
i really don’t like how this turned out but i hope it’s okay that this is half hcs, half one shot-ish and tbh i didn’t wanna post this but also didn’t wanna like ignore this request
⋆ ˚。 𓆟 🌊 𓆞 ˚。 ⋆
- y/n was holding onto her brother’s arm as she tried to get through the crowd of people
- “is that…?”
- but her brother didn’t hear as his green eyes locked with grey ones
- but she heard reyna speak and her attention turned to someone else
- “jason grace, my former colleague”
- when she looked forward, she saw the most beautiful boy she had ever laid eyes on
- although she was soon distracted by her brother leaving her grasp
- she let go of his arm and let him run to his girlfriend
- as everyone watched the scene unfold, she turned to look back at the son of jupiter
- only to find blue eyes meeting hers
- she quickly looked away but couldn’t hide the pink on her cheeks
- when she got to know him, the way she felt only grew
- she found herself doing everything in her power to talk to him
- sitting next to him at meals or even acting like she needed help with something she could completely do herself
- “hey, jason, can you grab that for me?” she would ask, pointing to a high shelf
- “yeah of course,” he would always respond
- but she would watch as his shirt would slightly show his abs as he leaned up
- and percy would be standing behind her like🧍♂️
- but when a monster attacked the ship and was 2 seconds away from killing jason???
- y/n was there in a second, slicing that monster
- and jason was like “that was amazing for someone who can’t open a jar of pickles”
- and she was like “i know right”
- or when she came into his room late at night after having a nightmare
- “is it okay if i stay with you?” she whispered into the darkness
- “of course,” he was already awake so he scooted over to make room for her
- she quickly took the spot next to him and let herself burrow next to him
- “why didn’t you ask your brother?”
- she couldn’t think of an answer
- after all, there was her brother or annabeth, who she had known for far longer than the boy she laid next to
- she just sighed and finally spoke again
- “i knew you’d be awake”
- that wasn’t the last time she did that either
- every nightmare she had, she would find her way to his room where he welcomed her with open arms
- but when percy and annabeth fell into tartarus, the nightmares only worsened
- night after night, she would wake up in a sweat
- she got too embarrassed to keep bothering jason, which he took notice to
- one night he found her sitting in the mess hall, staring off into space
- “y/n?”
- she looked up at him and tried to force a smile
- “are you okay?”
- “why wouldn’t i be?”
- he took the seat next to her, “can’t sleep?”
- she shook her head, “i just know i’ll be waking up soon enough from a nightmare, so why even try?”
- he worriedly looked at her, but she wouldn’t even face him
- “you need to sleep, y/n,” he whispered
- she stayed silent
- “you can stay in my room, i really dont mind”
- still silence
- “y/n?”
- “i don’t have a crush on you,” she suddenly spoke and looked up at him
- his eye widened, “what?”
- “i thought i had a crush on you, but i don’t, jase”
- he felt his heart heavy as he still stared at her
- “jason, i am so in love with you”
- he completely froze, his brain basically short circuiting
- kind of literally too as his hands slightly sparked when she spoke
- “i’m sorry, i had to tell you. there’s just so much going on right now, and trying to hide that was just one more thing i had to stress about”
- “no, y/n, it’s okay”
- “really?”
- “really.”
- she looked away, “i should get to bed anyways”
- she began walking away but he followed behind her, “wait”
- she turned around, waiting for the embarrassment to hit her
- but instead only a pair of lips did
- “i love you, too.”
- she didn’t say anything as she pulled him into another kiss

hi! okay this is insanely long but i had a lot of thoughts so bear with me pls.
i was scrolling through the jercy tag bc i'm starved and saw ur posts abt rhea/kronos & percy/jason and have to say i love them sm!! it's such an interesting concept and i've got a lot of cool thoughts abt them now thanks to you, buttt,, may i also offer metis/zeus & percy/jason parallels? it's a little stretch but hey idc it's fun
metis is the daughter of oceanus, percy is the son of poseidon (at both times, they're a child of the ruler of the seas) zeus is the son of kronos, jason is the son of zeus (at both times, they're a child of the ruler of the universe) metis & zeus met and fought a war to end kronos together...percy & jason unknowingly fought together during the titan war to end kronos and they do meet and work together during the giant war! and they make a great team, like in the twin giants fight
metis was a goddess of wisdom i'm pretty sure? and was zeus' advisor. i am a firm hater of the "percy is stupid" train because honestly it's percy who makes most of the battle strategies in pjo.
in fact here's some unwarranted examples: realizing what the lotus casino was, tricking crusty, figuring out the whole lightning thief debacle, giving clarisse the fleece, clearing chiron's name, figuring out he needs to take the sky, finding the nemean lion's weak spot, figuring out rachel is their guide for the labyrinth, all of his actions in the battle of manhattan tbh like he was crazy for doing all that at age 16!!, scaring chrysaor’s crew, making the combination of demigods to get nike, etc etc- i could go on and on!
so, i feel he can be related to metis in that he would be a pretty great advisor and obviously he'd be a fantastic leader. athena herself says the requests (read: demands) percy makes at the end of the second titan war are wise!
also think it could be interesting if poseidon delibrately chose to have percy look like metis. they'd probably look similar anyway but if poseidon wanted zeus to have some hesitation in killing percy, creating him to look like someone zeus greatly wronged in the style of kronos (aka eating someone) could do it?
anyway, moving onto jason! who, like zeus, is the youngest son and has a lunatic father that treats him like shit,, and at first zeus served kronos! just as jason did, but hey, if jason hadn't died when he did,, how long would he have continued to serve zeus?
rhea took zeus from kronos to be raised in crete by nymphs, like hera took jason from zeus to be raised in camp jupiter by wolves. and like rhea, hera is always on jason's side and honestly based on her toa reaction to his death, likely loved him like a son. and we know hera fucking hates zeus like rhea hated kronos.
jason is also strong as fuck, and ik rick knocked him out in every book because he didn't actually want his forced-percy-rival to actually showcase his powers but from what we know and seen he's like insane as well. PLUS he's been training since he was like 3 ik he's strong asf and zeus is sweating.
parallels😁!! uh let's hope jason doesn't eat percy though /j
i know zeus would've recognized these parallels and got insanely paranoid bc yk him. ik zeus was exhaling in relief when jason died, and there's a reason he was always trying to kill percy. he saw his sins in him! everytime he looks at percy he sees the woman he tricked and treated like shit and more-or-less killed. but he also knows metis was smart and very capable, n that's scary to him. everytime he looks at jason he sees his younger self, and that's a horrible thing to see if you're zeus lmao
of course jason is much better than zeus and percy is fairly different from metis, but it's the small parallels and zeus' paranoia that makes everything bigger.
the act we know metis most for is supplying the poison for kronos to regurgitate his kids,, and percy has a pretty close connection to poison now after his fight with akhlys :)
but yeah!! fun parallels :') sorry if this was a lot to read/hard to read
bonus: metis & zeus r cousins just like percy & jason /j
Now!!! Hear me out!!! I loooove the Metis X Percy parallels, I never talked about it here because some things I keep for the fics 🗣️🗣️🗣️ but I totally GET YOU!!!
The thing about Rhea is that they prob look a loooot alike, so people (mostly the big six and, maybe, Kronos) attribute her whole persona to Percy’s even tho many things make zero sense. Because they want him to impersonate their mother somehow to feel their void. Others might think of him more of a Perseis kinda of person, just for the destruction thing. But Metis? She was gone before most Olympians were alive, so it’s not like they have a truthful idea of what she was like, and those who remember might not have been as close to her as Zeus.
Metis was the Titaness of good counsel, planning, cunning and wisdom. Which makes us think that Athena would be a lot like her, but I personally think Athena is more a Zeus mini me. Metis being an ocean’s kid and a titaness made me believe she was a lot wilder and not exactly the usual embodiment of these concepts. Which would make her much more of a wild card, so Zeus got rid of her when the prophecy about their son showed up. So like, I can see Percy embodying Metis’ aspect of these domains (while Annabeth would be more Athena-like), and Zeus being like…
In terms of looks, she and Percy might’ve not looked the most similar, but hey, Metis would question Zeus’ authority in front of the whole council and would call out his shit whenever she felt like it.
Jason, however, is a much tamed version of his father. In a good sense. He’s not cruel, and when he’s forced to make a choice that he feels bad about it haunts him. He’s not overly confident and proud. Beyond all, he was taught loyalty to Rome and the gods from a young age, contrary to Zeus who was taught rebellion and how he was supposed to be this great saviour. For a while, this probably made Zeus more comfortable about him than he probably was about Thalia, for example, or even Percy.
But romans and Greeks learn about each other and now Jason and Percy meet and turns out Jason is SMITTEN with his cousin? Yeah, that’s a problem. Zeus would seethe, and Hera would be 100% smug about it.
Suddenly, there is something that Jason cares more than Rome or the gods. That is dangerous.
Also, something about Percy being somehow paralleled with TWO titan queens is just…

I've seen a few ppl talk about this but I'd also like to!!! so!!!!
Jason and Annabeth would've made better "rivals" out of the seven than Percy and Jason.
if it is absolutely necessary to have a set of rivals in the seven, which it really isn't, it would've made more sense for Jason and Annabeth.
okay, I know Jason and Percy are children of the big three, Zeus and Poseidon, who don't really get along, but why does that mean Percy and Jason can't? if they'd had more time and weren't basically brainwashed into disliking each other, I think they'd have become really close friends.
Percy's humour evens out Jason's lack thereof (though he definitely does have a sense of humour in there somewhere, he was just never given the chance to find it), and as we saw a few times, they were really powerful when they fought together. Jason is logical and cautious, Percy is impulsive and quick. they even each other out. if anything, they should've been closer friends than any of the seven.
ok, back to the rivalry. so, it's said multiple times during MoA that Annabeth never really trusted Jason. she thought (correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I read the books) Jason was too controlled and quiet.
also, Jason and Annabeth probably have more in common than any other duo from the seven, and that's not even their physical descriptions.
they're both smart and logical, preferring to think things through properly before making decisions, and they both use this during battle, for example.
Annabeth never really trusting Jason could've also added to their rivalry; it would've made her more apprehensive of everything he said, right? so, just imagine the seven getting into a rough situation and needing somebody with brains to figure it out. of course, we have Annabeth, daughter of Athena, who's known for being smart; but you also have Jason, son of Jupiter, who is cautious, careful, and logical. imagine they come to different conclusions, and argue about which is right.
their rivalry would've been so cool! two super smart people getting different answers for the same situation, both seemingly right, but who's do the seven follow through with? the natural choice would be Annabeth, who is, again, a daughter of Athena, who is the goddess of wisdom. it could've added to the story; having Leo and Piper side with Jason's answer, for example, and having Frank, Hazel, and Percy side with Annabeth.
but with Percy and Jason's so-called "rivalry," that really made no sense because they hardly knew each other, it's just two awkward and powerful 16 year olds, whose dislike for each other stems from their godly parents not getting along. it makes no sense. especially because Percy isn't the type of person to judge people based on their godly parents, so why would he have a pointless rivalry with someone just because his dad and their dad aren't exactly best friends? it doesn't seem like a very Percy Jackson thing to do, in my opinion.
so yeah. I think it would've made more sense to put a rivalry between two characters who have more in common, over two people who literally met yesterday and don't know anything about each other (except, of course, Jason hearing about the 'all-powerful Percy Jackson' stuff from CHB). I really do think that a rivalry in general wasn't necessary, and it didn't really add anything solid to the plot or storyline.
#also jason doesnt seem like the type to be bitter over hearing about percy's power#if anything he'd probably just be amazed#i wish we got to see more of annabeth and jason's dynamic because they had so much potential#percy and jason would've could've should've been best friends#argue with the wall#but yes an annabeth and jason rivalry wouldve been amazing!!!#if a rivalry was needed at all#percy jackon and the olympians#percy jackson#pjo#annabeth chase#jason grace#hoo#heroes of olympus#riordanverse#riordan universe

Percy: My dad is so annoying man, like would it kill him to just give me a straight answer for once?
Jason: I feel ya, it's like it's a requirement for them to start spouting riddles.
Percy: snorts Tell me about it. Does your dad talk like that to you?
Jason: I don't know.
Percy: You don't know?
Jason: My dad and I have never spoken, so I don't know if he'd speak like that to me.
Percy: Wait, what? Jason, are you okay? We all saw you standing up against Zeus in the throne room.
Jason: sad smile Thalia is Zeus's child. I am the son of Jupiter, his Roman counterpart.
Percy: Ohh... Shit yeah you are. And you've never met your dad?
Jason: shakes his head No, all I know about him are stories and from Thalia.
Percy: Wait...Thalia's met your dad but you haven't?!
Jason: Yeah, it was back when I was a baby so I don't remember... Not that I would anyway. She said he was... A lot more fatherly than Zeus.
Percy:...pissed That's it! We're going to meet your dad.
Jason: Percy it's fine.
Percy: Nope, no it ain't. And after I had them pay their child support and told em to acknowledge their kids... The nerve, come on Jase we're going!

A caesarean section [with epidural anesthesia and ardent support in the form of his mother] is not the worst or even unpleasant thing Percy has experienced. Most of all, Percy is afraid for his daughter - the doctors said that she was a big really big little girl, Jason joked that she would look like him, or some even assumed that there were more than one child, although this assumption was not viable - there was only one confident and strong heartbeat. He was afraid that there might be something wrong with her, that she might be sick or... something he didn't want to think about. But everything seemed to be going well, - there was a cutting slightly irritating sensation, the soothing voice of his mother and the reassuringly confident behavior of the doctors, until his girl left the cradle of his body and cried, the doctors and Sally saw her and... they were surprised and shocked. Percy, having experienced fright, demanded to immediately show her to him and they obeyed him, the girl was presented to the level of his face so that he could easily see her. At first he thought she was beautiful and perfect with that delicate skin, sleepy tear-stained sea-green eyes and light fuzz on her head, until he noticed something big surrounding her on both sides... The large wings, softly and neatly covered with downy plumage, are dull gray like those of an eaglet. Because of them, they couldn't even swaddle her and just covered her with a blanket. eagles were the sacred birds of Zeus/Jupiter, Jason the father of their daughter was the son of Jupiter... "damn it," Percy thought, "I just gave birth to an eaglet... my daughter would be stuck in my pelvis if it were a natural birth". He did have a few questions for Jason and perhaps the king of the gods himself. Little Rhea Ariana eventually got the nickname Aëttie - from the ancient Greek eaglet.
Yeah, I'm not sure her father could give an explanation for that either 😆
But then again there are a lot of stories about women giving birth to animal hybrid children. Like Pasiphae and the Minotaur among others. It's a good thing that Percy doesn't live in ancient greek times or else that whole giving birth process would have been a whole lot worse
I could just imagine little Aettie wadling up to her parents asking them why all of the other kids don't have wings like her. And both of their parents having trouble answering because they don't know either, even with the godly parent lineage. Eventually they just end telling her that she's just a very special girl.

no bc i know jiper isn't the most popular ship in the fandom,, but personally?? i have a soft spot for them.
they understood each other more than anyone else. they were both outwardly perfect individuals - piper with her natural beauty, daughter of a movie star, and jason with all his achievements and abilities, being the son of jupiter - yet inside, they were deeply unhappy because they felt like they were always pretending, that nobody knew who they really were or bothered to because people only saw their "perfection". they both hated that kind of attention, and the expectations that came along with it.
but when they got to know each other, they were able to see through the other's pretenses. jason saw and admired the strength in piper before she even knew it existed. piper, while swayed by fake memories at first and thought that he really was perfect all the time (especially in tlh), eventually got to see the real jason: vulnerable, unsure of himself, yet in spite of all that, someone who always chooses to do the right thing.
the scene in mark of athena where they almost drown with percy is so underrated. seconds before assumed death,, all piper could think of is telling jason that she loves him. she chose those words as her last, not knowing that they would survive. in this life or death moment,, all her insecurities flew out the window,, and she just spoke as honestly as she could.
ik their relationship goes down a tragic path,, and ToA leaves a lot more to unpack,, but all i'm saying is their relationship was actually rly heartwarming 😭 to me, anyways lmao

Jason howling as a vocal tic on the ship, and it startles everyone else (except Hazel, who knew him briefly before he vanished and was aware that this was something he did). He's not ashamed of it, she can tell that much and, besides, he never seemed quite ashamed of it before, but this time, his shoulders are drawing up to his ears and he looks... frustrated.
Oh, she thinks. Camp is one thing - they already knew and it was understood as that thing that Jason did sometimes, same as with Dakota suddenly jumping rapidly while shaking his fists.
But this is a different setting, different people. Judging from Annabeth, Leo and Piper's faces, this wasn't something he demonstrated in front of them before. She'd only known him for a little bit, but she was well aware Jason didn't appreciate the label of "different". He was already that Roman kid that Percy was replaced - different in his mannerisms, his rigidity, the repressed snarl behind him lips.
At Camp Jupiter, he was Jupiter's son, the foregone leader. Stronger, more powerful. The child raised by wolves, the defeater of Krios. The golden boy.
He always laughed off when people said things like that. They were half-jokes. An easy kindness between friends, but reflecting on fact nonetheless. His teeth would always grit a little. His body tightening. Discomfort.
Just like now.
It didn't even register as a thought before she was already crossing to the other side of the boat. She leaned over the well crafted railing. Jason was stiff. His throat was so tense, she could imagine it like a rope, seconds away from splitting in half.
She turned to face the clouds like he was. Cleared her throat and howled alongside him.
She was not good at it. It was more of a "whoooo" than a real howl. But Jason didn't seem to mind as he shot her a quick look. It was kind of funny. It reminded her of little kids howling alongside their dogs.
Jason wasn't her dog however. But Frank was - sometimes.
She turned to where he had been reloading the cannons and jerked her head out to the clouds. He took the hint. Tightening the cannons back into place, he hopped over and leaned across the railing on Hazel's other side. His initial howl was a weak, cracked thing that her had giggling and him frowning. Jason wasn't stopping in his noise, but his shoulders shook anyway, a crooked grin cut against his lips as he howled.
Frank's head shifted into a proper wolf. This howl was lot better than the others. The sound of it, a rough guttural thing that trailed off like a song, encouraged Jason's own crooning. In seconds, it broke into a battle of who could do better.
Hazel accepted her loss with grace. Behind them, the others were still a little lost, but carrying on nonetheless. Sneaking peeks back at the three of them while they continued on. Annabeth ducked over to Percy. Their heads lowered together. She was probably asking him if this was a thing he saw at Camp Jupiter. A Roman child thing.
A wolf-trained thing.
He shrugged and gestured loosely outwards. He had not seen it. For starters, he hadn't been around long enough. And secondly, Jason was the only kid at Camp who howled like that. The little ones did sometimes, but they were strewn about New Rome playing pretend. Not howling because it itched a part of their brain that needed to be scratched.
The howling died off slowly, gently. Hazel steadied her grip against the railing and leaned back. Her feet kept her firmly planted. She held herself there for a moment. Then swung back up. The air rushed past her face and she exhaled with it.
"Better?"
Jason flexed his fingers one right after the other against the railing. "Better?" he echoed with a frown. "Better? Better?"
He was like a parrot.
Hazel snorted and tilted her head back. "Helloooo," she drawled.
His head snapped up from where he'd dropped it to mumble to himself. The echo was instant. "Helloooo!"
"Hello!" she called back.
He clicked his tongue twice then, "Helloooo!"
She grabbed his hands and began jumping fast like Dakota would. Frank's warm hand steadied against her back. Jason "hello"ed one more time before copying her. Big jumps with knees pulled up as far as they could go, calves tucked into thighs, and head ducked over. They mimicked Dakota's tight fists with their entwined grip.
"Hello!" she shouted with every bounce. The word tied up on her tongue quickly.
Jason echoed the greeting back for a few seconds before devolving into his repeated chant of "teeth".
Hazel did not understand what exactly was soothing about the word "teeth". "Hello" made sense. Even "Reyna" was a good one. "Teeth" was a gritted word that just sounded menacing as fuck and did not tickle any part of her brain.
So she stuck with with a repeated and enthusiastic "hello" for the couple minutes they jumped in tandem. Her legs ached by the time they faded into a slow stop, Jason's words quieting down into steady silence and breathing.
She keeled over and gripped her knees. "How the fuck does Dakota do that?" she panted. She held her head back. "Gods-dammnit - he makes it look so easy."
"He makes it look like he's having a spasm of some kind," Frank said. "Or a tantrum because someone drank all his koolaid."
Jason snorted. Damn, sky baby was breathing fine. She almost wanted to whack him for it. But instead she just rose up and leaned against Frank's strong center.
"Better?" she asked.
He ran his hand through his short tufts of hair. "Yeah," he said. He gazed off into the clouds, then back at her with a quiet smile. "Thanks."
She waved him off. "It's fine." She gestured towards the inside of the boat. "Do you want me to explain it?"
She wasn't fully sure how to explain it though. It's just a thing that he does sometimes, they'd said about Jason. If it interrupts a conversation, just wait a moment. And that was it.
Dakota's was explained a little better. It's not because I'm hyper, he'd said. But sometimes I get all, like, tense and stressed and it helps me shake it out.
She'd stared at him. Then said, Being at Camp doesn't help you shake it out? I think I've ran around more here than I did when I was a kid.
He'd laughed and bumped her with his shoulder. Nah, it's not like that. That's energy. This is different. Like when you sit and bounce your leg. But that's controlled. This is like my brain telling my body it's full, and we gotta let some stuff out or I'll explode. I can feel it coming on, but I can't stop it.
Kind of like going to the bathroom, she'd thought. How many times had she'd bolted through the door and race to the toilet before it could all come rushing out of her without permission? And when she did make it, sat down and let go, the relief was instantaneous.
Was Jason's like that? It had to be similar. Being on the boat, sailing right towards the enemy, yet another war slapped on his back, knowing that his home felt betrayed by him, dealing with being possessed back and forth, being the only one who could handle all the bitter wind and sky spirits that attacked them - his brain had to be sending out multiple alarms to his body telling him to let go or implode by now. Probably had started days ago. When Leo made the first attack and everything went downhill.
He didn't say anything, but his brows were furrowed. "I-" He grit his teeth. "I'll do it. It's fine."
She played with Frank's fingers. The two of them shared a brief look. Then she kicked the side of his foot with hers. "I'll do it, Jason."
He scowled. "I can-"
"Shut up, I'm doing it," she said. She eased off of Frank and prodded Jason in his belly. "I already decided and I'm older than you so shush."
He blinked, almost owlishly. The tension in his shoulders stuck, high and tight. Then slowly began to drift down. He opened his mouth then clamped it shut, staring back out into the clouds.
"Okay," he said softly after a few seconds of plaintive silence.
She poked his belly again. "Whoooo."
Frank came up beside her. "Whooooo."
The corner of Jason's lip twitched. He tilted his head ever so slightly to catch them both with his electric eyes. It was quiet, then he laughed soundlessly, and gave a quiet, "Whooo" back.

@yonemurishiroku so I'm pretty sure there was this post you made a few months ago asking for ideas on what to write, I responded with something like "Nico helps Percy escape an abusive situation that he's to scared to tell his mom about because he doesn't want her to be disappointed in him (even though she'd never react that way irl), anyway, found a post that goes with it so I wrote it myself, here!
(prologue by @imaginejercy, tw for rape)
Percy thought Jason was better than his father.
He dared to hope that the son of Jupiter would accept the refusal and accept it, find himself another girl or boyfriend.
But...
the hands on his wrists were firm and confident, someone else's knee rested between his forcibly spread legs, electric blue eyes shone with cold-blooded confidence.
— Hush, Perce, — soft lips gently touched his neck, goosebumps ran over his skin, — I will be gentle and affectionate, you will enjoy it if you don't resist and scream.
a few hours later, Percy is left lying on the floor with pain throbbing all over his body, painted skin and dried blood on his thighs.
Jason even kissed him and covered with his toga.
clutching the purple cloth to his chest, Percy burst into tears.
truly the son of his father.
Percy never should've asked Jason to be his roommate.
It was months ago that this happened. Percy had just gotten dumped and started to date Jason, more out of desperation to be loved again than out of genuine attraction, though that was there too.
Percy quickly saw a side to Jason that he didn't like seeing. One that set alarm bells off.
He tried to get away- he tried.
And then...
So now, he had to deal with not just a breakup, but all of this trauma, both new and old.
This morning, his rapist was cooking eggs, and he was staring out the window, totally blank. He couldn't go to class today, he just couldn't. But he'd been feeling that way ever since that night, and he couldn't just drop out. So he pushed himself through.
He decided to go out through the other door, the one that didn't require him to pass by Jason in the kitchen, and potentially have to hear his voice. He sounded so nice, and Percy hated it. Ever since that incident, he's just acted perfectly normal, acted like it never even happened. It convinced Percy even further that nobody would believe him if he said anything. Because how could Jason, sweet, polite, lovable Jason... New Rome's former Praetor... The boy who took down Othrys...
Rape someone?
Especially someone as uncontrollable as Percy?
He was starting to wonder if he'd made it up himself. It was so...
Out of the blue.
And that's how he felt. Out of blue, out of the thing that makes him himself.
Empty.
Empty, like the printer Jason had thrown at him just a few days prior to the incident.
He can still remember his words. "I've told you over and over and over again, and you still haven't gone to get more ink, you fucking idiot! Do you want both of us to fail!? Just flunk out and work at a drive-through for the rest of our lives, is that what you fucking want!?"
He missed, but the printer hit the TV, and Jason got angry about that too.
That was when he decided they were breaking up.
So, maybe the assault wasn't as surprising as he thought.
Percy was walking aimlessly around campus, oblivious to everything around him, when suddenly he felt his body collide with the sidewalk, and saw his vision go black.
When he came to, everything still sounded like it was underwater, but he could see Nico standing above him. He was on his back, a position that still hurt sometimes thanks to that brutal, tear-filled night.
"Percy?" Nico asked. "You... You fainted, are you alright?"
Percy wanted to just say yes, get up, and move on. He really did. But he was so worn down, every night he had nightmares, about Tartarus, about Jason, about Gabe... He got maybe an hour and a half tonight, and that was lucky. And eating wasn't any better, he sometimes went two or three days without eating anything and not even notice, because he was so disconnected from his body. And Jason is the only one who knows how to cook, so when Percy does eat, it's usually just a bag of chips or something, because there's no way in hell he's eating anything Jason made. When was the last time he even showered?
Nico put his hand on Percy's wrist, now thin, with bones jutting out, from months of this routine. "... Are you ok?" He asked again, softer this time.
And Percy burst into tears.
(I'll probably do a part two lol)

"But she's a Mortal, Jason. You hate mortals," Dakota moved his last remaining pawn, his voice relaxed despite their heated argument. He and Jason were in a chess tournament in one of the lecture halls at New Rome University. Purple and Gold banners hung on the walls advertising the Chess Endgame of the Year.
"I don't hate mortals, I just don't get them. We're all a bit mortal; I'd just be hating myself-"
"Half of yourself," Dakota raised his eyes to meet Jason's, a sly smile on his face. Explaining how amazing it was being around Percy's family to his best friend had been harder than he'd imagined. He grimaced at his Past Self, who would rant against the Mortals; mostly to the Cool-Aid obsessed guy sided across from him.
He moved the Rook, claiming Dakota's Queen in the process. "Yes!"
"Yes, I'd be hating half of myself, besides they were just so nice and different. I kinda felt like I didn't have to be just Jupiter's son."
Jason bit the scar on his upper lip, his entire life he was the Perfect son of Jupiter. Only a few people knew how much pressure that was to him: Dakota, Reyna, Julian.... Octavian.
"You're not just Jupiter's son! You're the guy that saved the world," Dakota argued moving his Knight to guard the King better than before, but if Jason moved his Bishop to the lower left corner...
"That's what I'm talking about," Jason scrunched his brow together, "I didn't have to worry about any of that! I felt like a normal person!"
"Sally was so nice to me, so was Paul, Percy's step-father. Sally didn't care about any of that; she didn't even think I was going to be there and was still so nice to me. You would have loved them, Cota!"
Jason moved his Bishop to attack Dakota's King; ending the match. He restarted the timer on the edge of the table. Another match was about to begin.
"How come," he took a sip of Red Cool-Aid from his water bottle, moving his pieces back into position. Jason did the same.
He didn't know what all he should say to his friend without making him frustrated. He and Dakota had been friends and Rank-Mates for years without trouble, he even accompanied him on his first quest into the Sea of Monsters, but he had been around a nice mortal in years. He didn't understand them, much like Jason, like most of Camp Jupiter.
Jason wanted to tell him how they had made him feel more welcome than he ever had in the legion. How they didn't care how many monsters he's killed or how many people he's saved. How they had just ate cookies and laughed and watched cheesy movies Jason had never heard about.
Jason wanted to tell him that Sally's smile after he had helped clean up the cookie mess made him feel more acheived than anything else he'd done. And how silly that felt because he was the son of a god. How nice she had been to him and how Jason wished he had had a mom like that growing up. How he now saw how lucky his friends were to have had parents.
He settled with the easy answer, "They had Red Cool-Aid."
Dakota's hand lingered for a moment above his chess piece, before he sighed, "let's just get this over with."
Jason wanted to tell Dakota that they had both missed out on so much.
"Okay."

Helpless part 72, the men at war they draft the poor
"Hey Firecracker, what's up?" The son of Hephaestus jumped, not realising his boyfriend was in front of him.
"Maths."
"Why?" Jason hadn't exactly gone to school, anything he learnt was at Camp Jupiter and, we they tended to be more interested in teaching children how to lose their emotion and fight mercilessly rather than the value of x.
"Because I'm working on a project? And I just enjoy maths?"
"How do you enjoy it? It's so confusing."
"It's not confusing, the English language, yes, maths, no."
"I have never been to an actual school, they're both confusing."
"Sparky, my education is nowhere near decent and yet I've been doing college level maths since I was five."
"One of us has to be the smart one and clearly it not me."
"You're the one that makes sure I don't accidentally blow up camp."
"I'll take it." They both laughed before Leo went back to work, it was incredible. Jason just watched as he would stare at the paper for a few seconds before writing out the numbers, answers to questions he couldn't explain, as if it was the simplest thing he could imagine. Sketching on his notebook, every line he drew perfectly straight without the need for a ruler which he'd not realised until then. How he bit his lip while focusing and how he tapped something in morse code, he wasn't sure what but it was always the same thing, over and over again. So focused he barely saw the world around him, as if everyone and everything had disappeared. "Are you just going to watch me until I finish?"
"I'm going to watch you until you kiss me." He laughed back, smiling as Leo went back to his work, only stopping to swear in either English, Greek or Spanish. "Valdez, how long exactly are you planning to do this for?"
"Just give me fifteen minutes, I'm trying to make a working Ironman suit."
"Why are you...?"
"I have a younger brother, he likes Ironman." After five minutes of a cycle of Leo sketching, swearing and then setting something on fire Jason walked up behind him and wrapped his arms around the son of Hephaestus.
"Take a break, you look like you're going to set this entire place on fire."
"Why does Ironman basically walk around in a tank?"
"Because he's a fictional character and no one is meant to try and recreate his suit functionally." He said, kissing him on the cheek.
"You're like a puppy, Gracie."
"I mean I was raised by wolves, what did you expect?"
"That explains the growling."
"The what?"
"You growl like a dog when you're mad, most people don't realise." Jason blushed a little as Leo turned around and kissed him, "It's adorable."
"You're adorable." He kissed him again, running his hand though his shaggy blonde hair that had grown out after their time on the Argo II and camp. Jason had a hand on his neck, pulling him as close as he possibly could, his hands were rough from the years of fighting but he placed then there so gently it made him shiver.
"Hey Leo, Harely want-"
"Seriously? The second time today, we need to learn how to lock doors."
"I think just closing it would work, the it was open when I got here." Percy raised his hands in surrender, "Don't blame me."
"Don't let anyone find out, please." Leo said in a panic, Percy would be fine, he knew that, still it was another person and the more people know the more likely someone messes up an says something.
"'Course, you okay Leo?"
"Yeah, just... wondering who's gonna walk in on us next."
"Thalia did this morning; don't worry, she won't say anything." Jason explained, pulling Leo into a hug.
"If anyone gives you shit I'll fucking kill them."
"Everything's been fine, just... bit off after what Calypso said and well just life. I want people to know eventually but just... yeah."
"Do I need to find out how to kill and immortal goddess because I will."
"I'll join you in making her suffer." Jason added
"It's fine, she's trapped on an island, also I can burn anything she tries to send me."
"Let me know if anyone is saying anything to either of you; also don't feel pressured to tell anyone, you don't owe it to them, if you want to tell people do it because you want to not because you feel like you owe them. Leo, Harely was looking for you, I don't know why but he said something about Ironman so I'm hoping that makes sense to you." He left and closed the door, smiling at both of them.
"You okay Firecracker?"
"Did he know? He didn't seem that surprised."
"He knew about me, I didn't tell him anything about us."
"You can tell people, I don't mind."
"You looked sick when Percy walked in, it's okay if you don't want anyone to know."
"Just reminds me of Calypso... and my family, and the foster homes a ran from. I know things are different here, well... I'm hoping they are, but.."
"It stays with you? That like me and the Romans."
"Who knows that you're gay?"
"Just you, Percy and Thalia. Have you told anyone?"
"Will and Nico, I want to tell Piper but I want to know what I am before really telling anyone else."
"I didn't expect you to tell Nico before Piper."
"Neither did I; I think he hates me."
"Why would he hate you?" He didn't even know if Nico remembered that night, they were both really drunk, he was high and still terrified of the son of Hades.
"Well, I didn't exactly tell him..."
"What do you mean by that?" Jason's mind try to come up with explanations but his brain was dry, neither of them had told him anything, they both seem to tolerate eachother. They weren't exactly close but it made sense, they respected eachother in a way but he knew they'd be close if they took the time to talk for once.
"I slept with him when we were both drunk, I don't know if he remembers. Nothing ever happened again and I'm pretty sure he can't remember so I just never really talked to him and well he hates me now."
"He doesn't hate you, you know that right? When he wakes up you two should talk, you have more in common than you want to admit."
"We're demigods Gracie, we all having something in common. Trauma, anxiety, ADHD, and a habit of nearly getting murdered." He ruffled his hair and kissed the son of Hephaestus softly, trying to forget the fact that his boyfriend and one if his best friends slept together and one of them might not even remember.

I know the recent parts have been more focused on Valgrace, this is still a very solangelo focused fic but I felt like it needed another ship or two to take place to flesh out the story outside of Nico and Will, especially because I can't write with Nico for a while.

I haven't read Pjo in a hot minute but I just had had the most glorious dream about it, and I feel like, I need to share my feelings on the series.
Now, for context, I read them in the order of: Tlh, SoN then the first five books, MoA, HoH, and a good gap later BoO. I absolutely fell in love with the first HoO, the only hard copy I keep of the series, so I was a little bummed when I learned there was no other book of them (MoA haven't come out yet). I liked Percy, but had no previous connection to him, and I was more interested in the worldbuilding in Camp Jupiter.
All in all, my weird experience with this series makes my nostalgia much more nostalgically connected to the , and lost trio than the OGs, and I would proudly wear purple over orange, sue me. (Not saying I didn't enjoy it when I bing read the first five books before MoA came out. I think the chapter system was a huge loss in HoO) Now, Tlh is still my absolute faw, and I was a bit bummed when we didn't explore the new characters (neither Hazel and frank nor Jason, Piper and Leo) in favour of following two characters we already had a whole series on.
The prophesy is about Jason and Leo, Piper is their glue and mediator, so why don't we get to know more of them? Leo learning to accept his powers could have been an arc. Piper should have realised there's no point in judging Drew, or her mom for being more girly than her, and that it doesn't make her more or less. Jason was a kid soldier but we can't explore it, because we can't explore him, only the effect he has on others. Why doesn't he have any like... friends in Camp Jupiter?
I saw a post about how we could have had a situation where Reyna and Octavian constantly bickered, and Jason played mediator (mirroring his mew team, where Piper fills that role sort of) We could have had them be friends, to not make it feel like nobody even misses Jason... It could have made the falling out more tragic. (Of course, that would require Octavian to be an actual character instead of a generic concept, and then maybe I would feel something at his death other than "wait, what?")
Oh, what could have been. Alas, I know a lot were happy to see Percabeth, so I shall cease whining about what could have been, and appreciate that I still have Tlh.
Also, If you want me to share my dream, tell me (I prolly will anyways but oh well.)

Okay these tags on this post reminded me of a HoO/TOA thing that I complain about a lot but I don’t think i’ve ever elaborated on here:
[Image ID: Tags from @fr0zenpepsi reading - “#and jason fUCKING DIES before he even get fixed like #you dont know how excited i was when the diorama thing was mentioned like #make him artistic too!! make him be into architecture too! #and he plays lacrosse???? #like his character has sooo much potential yet hes just a boring white guy :< #thats prolly why his death is pretty lame #it meant a lot to the plot but like do we even know who we lost?? #more than half of the fandom doesnt even like him bc hes just so plain :/ #also hazel is a queen and i love her shes literally the best” /end ID.]
One of the big issues I take with both HoO and TOA is that literally every death in both series feels cheap because death has lost consequence. For the majority of HoO it’s at least somewhat still of a risk, but even things like Tartarus feel extremely lackluster when we actually encounter them - Tartarus especially after we saw how much it affected Nico, but then Percy and Annabeth’s plot armor kind of negates all of the threat and it feels like they don’t actually experience much more than their usual threats down there or that it has any lasting effect on them. And after Leo’s “death” we’re basically solidified into “Death has no consequence” because we just finished a series with at least SIX INSTANCES of major or minor protagonist-aligned characters notably directly cheating or miraculously avoiding death (Jason, Hazel, Gwen, Frank, Jason again, Leo), not including also miscellaneous minor antagonists. Which is aggravating because you can make a “Hey, these characters can’t die!” plot work, especially if that’s the root problem they’re trying to solve! It does work in TLH and SoN! And we’ve even seen it before in Battle of the Labyrinth when Percy fights his half-brother!
But HoO basically nullifies all consequence the characters face from MoA onwards and post-BoO “death” carries no weight, because by this point we have so many excuses to get around it or avoid it or come back from it that who cares! And this continues to be a thing post-TOA! Even just in the plot summary of Chalice Of The Gods we’re introduced to YET ANOTHER “Cheat death!” item! And I’d bet we’re gonna get one in TSATS too cause we’re almost guaranteed to see Damasen again, and the like one singular myth that exists referencing Damasen also specifically mentions an herb called “the flower of Zeus” that can revive things from the dead.
And it’s extra annoying because in TOA we keep getting character deaths shoved in our faces and told we should care about them, but either they’re characters we have little to no emotional connection to (such as, like, All Of Camp Jupiter in Tyrant’s Tomb when the camp is threatened and we’re told we should care, but we’ve barely seen the camp at all besides beginning of Son of Neptune and beginning of Mark of Athena, and the only living characters we get to actually see in Camp Jupiter from before TOA are Gwen, Dakota, Don the Faun, and our HoO protagonists.)
And Jason’s death is particularly annoying because a.) He’s essentially cheated death twice already [Piper bringing him back from either death or near-death when he accidentally witnessed Hera’s true form, and then his whole spear injury that was slowly killing him but was healed with [checks notes] the power of friendship], and b.) the scene DIRECTLY PARALLELS HIS FIGHT WITH MIDAS. Which, you know, he WON. VERY EASILY. And you can’t even argue “oh but this time Piper and Apollo were right there so he couldn’t have done the same thing!” because PIPER AND LEO WERE THERE WITH MIDAS. Heck, so was Lit! Who also survives and comes back in TOA! So not only is there no excuse for Jason to have not somehow miraculously avoided death (alongside every other TOA character, basically), but he SHOULDN’T HAVE DIED IN THE FIRST PLACE because THAT’S NOT A FIGHT HE SHOULD HAVE LOST! Him losing that fight is directly contrary to what we know about his character! And “he shouldn’t have lost that fight and died” doesn’t feel tragic here, it’s just aggravating! It’s just bad writing! And there’s no way around it because nobody cares about characters dying by that point in the series anyways because it doesn’t mean anything! We’ve had too much random death fodder in HoO (like the Hunters) directly alongside characters experiencing little to no consequence when they should from their experiences (Percy & Annabeth in Tartarus, literally every character nearly dying, etc.). The only characters we do see experience any kind of lasting consequences from near-death experiences are Hazel having blackouts in Son of Neptune (which are magically erased by Mark of Athena) and Nico being heavily implied to be permanently physically disabled after Tartarus (which is half-ignored when not plot relevant in TOA and completely ignored in the short story Un Natale Mezzosangue, which gives me reason to suspect it will also be ignored in TSATS). Not to mention Frank’s curse is also randomly erased in Tyrant’s Tomb, which is extra stupid because by following the logic of that scene his curse should have been lost back in Son of Neptune when he freed Thanatos, because he was using his curse for the same exact reasons with the same exact mindset. He literally did his character arc twice. Whatever.
HoO and TOA are just such a mess writing-wise of Rick trying to haphazardly incorporate as many myths as he can with zero attempts at cohesiveness that it doesn’t make any sense (I invite you all to read just the Team Statue chapters of BoO and take a moment to process how absolutely nonsensical it is) and he fails to consider the consequences of including certain myths, both in terms of how their aspects will impact the larger plot and also the historical context behind those myths and if how they’re being applied is offensive.
TL:DR: Jason’s death is stupid from literally every angle and HoO and TOA have a problem with literally any kind of narrative consequence.
#riordanverse#pjo#hoo#heroes of olympus#toa#trials of apollo#jason grace#meta#long post#fr0zenpepsi#sorry to hijack your tags lmao#i just have a lot of thoughts on why Jason's death is lame and i 100% agree with you the fact that we barely *know* Jason is part of it#ergo the same problem in Tyrant's Tomb when we're literally just told we should be sad about all these background death fodder romans#but we've only seen Camp Jupiter like twice up until that point so there's literally no reason for us to be emotionally attached to anything#like. oh nooo CJ's in trouble.... why do we care?#CHB we care about because it's a major setting we see often and we've developed a connection to#if we had another series focusing on just the romans then it'd probably be different and we'd care a *lot* about CJ#but we. don't. so we don't. and putting CJ in any kind of peril is meaningless#not that the peril TOA puts on CHB is actually anything at all either. in Hidden Oracle it's at most the same peril as the desert in TTC#and it gets nullified extremely quickly with even less tragedy. its downright humorous actually. which is almost worse#and then same thing in ToN when the demigods fighting in the building are literally being treated like theyre on a field trip#this is supposed to be the BIG FINAL BATTLE and the forces of CHB are... a bunch of 12 year olds playing?#honestly HoO and TOA almost feel like Rick got scared of actually having CHB be threatened and so turns to humor instead#and so every fight that happens there post-first series feels like it's not being taken seriously#or that it's extremely rushed. or both. and fights involving the majority of camp doesnt actually put the campers in danger#like okay Camp Jupiter gets a zombie apocalypse and tons of death.#CHB? the kids go on a field trip to beat up the Tri's lackeys and nobody gets even seriously injured#besides the characters who arent campers or like. our protagonists get a little thrown around but thats it.

For the ask game, 🍄?
🍄 share a head canon for one of your favorite ships or pairings
So, I was on an intense PJO kick a month ago, mainly with regard to Percy & Thalia & Poseidon feels, but here's a brief thing I've got in mind concerning Sally/Poseidon:
It's about depth.
This is actually a headcanon tangled up with the other brothers as well, concerning what causes them each to form an attachment, however long or brief, to individual mortals. Hades has been interpreted a dozen different ways, yeah, and when Maria di Angelo was still alive back in the day, she was almost certainly a woman of many sides, living in dangerous, unprecedented times. Maybe a good woman just trying to survive, maybe an active participant in the war, but almost almost certainly more than what other people saw her as, with a complexity that the God of the Dead who receives so much mixed fear and respect could understand.
Zeus, though, is straight up attracted to surface beauty, no disputing that fact, Beryl Grace being the latest of many gorgeous women over the eons, who could go from clear, dazzling smiles to thunderous fury in a moment if the wrong person got on her nerves. At the time that he first saw/met/encountered her, Zeus has to have been chafing under the pact he and his brothers made, to sire no more children, and for an absolute ruler being restricted definitely stings. So he sees a stunning mortal, a movie star, constantly hiding how she grinds her teeth at both the big and little things, but still wielding what power she has gained for herself with unflinching determination to come out on top. And Zeus finds himself admiring that as much as her looks, hence being the first to break the pact and conceive Thalia (and later Jason via his Jupiter aspect).
Coming back to Poseidon, he appreciates good looks as much as the next god, but he's also the one who embodies the vast seas and all that's hidden beneath a calm or storming surface. Putting on masks to disguise and secret away one's true feelings, up until the point it all becomes too much and you need to release pent-up emotions, to go off on your own and hurl the mask away and let what's really there be exposed, even if only for a few moments. Water pulling back from shore, revealing the deep crevices and hidden creatures, before the waves come sweeping in once more, you pick yourself back up, and you keep going regardless of whatever shit life is still throwing your way.
And that's Sally Jackson, undoubtedly, even before her son is born and she starts taking steps and making sacrifices to keep him safe, relying only upon herself for so long.
"You don't want him at camp."
"No, no I don't."
"Tell me why."
"You don't want to know why."
"Probably not. But you have no one to say it to, and maybe that's the most unfair part of it."
...okay this turned into more of an analysis of the Big Three gods rather than a single headcanon about a pairing, but oh well x'D
#pjo#ask game#thanks crystal!#percy jackson and the olympians#sally jackson#obligatory ocean pun: it's about *depth* x'D

Kinda pissed the whole big 3 pact didn't have consequences.
Not like breaking an oath sworn on the Styx is said to be a worse fate than death.
Not like they swore on the Styx to not have kids and than 3 came along.
Those being Thalia, Jason and Percy.
Because Hazel, Bianca and Nico were all born prior to the pact.
But what if it did have consequences?
They made the pact because their kids were too powerful and we're a threat to mortals.
And this isn't said but I think Zeus in particular was afraid that a son child he sired could be powerful enough to overthrow him.
Like how Uranus overthrew Kronos who was than overthrown by Zeus.
Clearly the fear wasn't enough to stop Zeus.
Enter one Beryl Grace, the mortal star who managed to get the attention of both Zeus and Jupiter.
Giving birth to both Greek and Roman demigods.
Something that to my knowledge hasn't happened anywhere else in the series.
And without letting anyone knowing abd getting the biggest I told you so in history, Zeus has to deal with this.
Hera finds out because of course she does.
And offers Jason to Lupa, the wolf goddesses.
While Thalia runs off when she's old enough, Hades founds out and is very sore after the whole Maria Di Angelo incident sends a monster after her.
She almost does but Zeus saves her by turning her into a tree.
And when she's free she joins the hunt.
And the fates are pissed that Thalia being of the hunt is shielded by Artemis and they cannot intervene.
But there's still one unexpected item in the bagging area: Jason
(I'm well aware of Percy but the fates saw his life and went yeah it's gonna suck enough let's leave this one.)
Jason who has been abandoned by all he loves to the literal wolves.
A child, little more than a baby being trained by the wolf goddess himself.
Perfect.
Jason gets older and stronger, he goes to Camp Jupiter and is made Praetor.
He goes on quest after quest in service for the God's.
But instead of unwavering loyalty and being happy simply to serve the God's, as expected, Jason feels empty.
Because if there's one thing Jason wants, more than thing in the world.
It's to have a family.
He adores the people of Camp Jupiter but their almost colleagues, acquaintances.
United under their existence and mission to serve the God's.
His only true friend, Reyna is distant, she is a companion he is happy to have in his life but their relationship has always been professional.
And she's made herself clear that she doesn't agree with his want for family. That it's kind of ridiculous.
Jason snapped at that, saying it was easy for her to say as she had her sister Hylla.
Though they didn't see much of each other, Hylla still visited camp and both were close.
While he had no one.
It was one of the only times Jason had gotten angry at her.
And while taken aback, Reyna apologised. Though it only reminded Jason how lonely he truly was.
People at Camp spoke to him, sparred with him but it was like he was a star.
Something to be looked at in awe but couldn't be approached because it was out of reach.
Jason refuted that he was better any of them, even putting himself in the lowest cohort just yo be seen as anything but that.
His efforts were futile.
Jason had been claimed his first day of Camp.
And since than he'd been rendered untouchable.
He hated it more than anything.
And than Jason began to dream.
Dreams the fates slowly fed him while whispering in his ears that he did have a family.
His father claimed him, so he knew of him.
His family, his father was waiting for him.
No God's entered Camp Jupiter of course so the only way was to meet him in Olympus itself.
He dreamt of marble floors, of a man on a throne who shared his electric blue eyes.
Hand outstretched and a warm smile, welcoming his son to his side.
A father, the fates whispered your family.
You can have all you ever wanted.
And Jason craved that.
He wanted it more than anything.
And they knew it.
Jason gave in.
He sneaks out of Camp without anyone seeing him, following the path from his dreams all the way to the Empire State building.
The usual guard isn't their and from his dreams Jason knows how to access the 600th floor.
It's exactly as his dreams looked.
And their, their was his father in all his glory atop his throne.
Jason can't help the smile on his face.
He's done it.
Finally
Finally he would have the family he always wanted.
He marches to his father's throne, dropping to a bow and announcing himself as Jason Grace, son of Jupiter and that he's so happy to meet his father, so honoured to meet him.
When he looks up.
The smile he expected is nowhere to be found.
His father is enraged.
As are the rest of the Olympians.
"A son?! You, you dare berate me brother for my own offspring while you've been hiding your own!"
"Son of Jupiter?"
"How did he get here?!"
Tells of outrage and anger echo throughout the room but none are as mad as the God before him.
"You... Insolent child dare to approach me. You dare to come to Olympus, to what? Intimidate me?"
Jason shook his head frantically "No no I only wanted to meet you... I'm your son."
Why... Was this going so horribly...?
Zeus sneered at him "I don't know what you think you are doing here, but if you think for a second you belong in my presence you are sorely mistaken. You are nothing, not to me not anyone else."
And something.
Something in Jason snapped.
His dream, everything he ever wanted burning before him.
He laughed.
It was loud.
Hysterical.
He even had tears in his eyes.
"All this time... All this time they say, your father is the mighty Jupiter. Your father is a King amongst men, the vanquisher of Kronos."
He laughed again.
How wrong they were.
How wrong he was.
"I wanted nothing more to meet my father, this mighty king... And you, you are just a pathetic man with a paper crown."
Silence swept the throne room.
Zeus stood before Jason, enraged didn't even capture just how angry he was.
But Jason found he didn't care.
He was angry.
The being he'd served his whole life was not the great King he'd thought him to be.
His fathered towered over him but Jason didn't back down.
He'd been lied to.
All his life he was to serve his father, his whole life he'd served his father and he didn't even want him.
He didn't love him.
Jason questioned if he ever could feel love.
His life meant nothing.
"You... Insolent!"
Jason didn't hear the rest of the speech.
Not before a bolt of lighting flew at him.
Instinctively Jason threw up his arm, reaching out for the Bolt.
It stopped.
It swerved.
And made a dent in his father's throne.
Jason looked down at his hands in shock.
Before chuckling "is that, all you've got?"
That... That was the infamous Master Bolt?
His father truly was nothing like he'd been famed to be.
If a lowly Demigod like Jason could swat his prized weapon like a fly.
No one had ever made it to Olympus without being detected.
They hadn't even noticed him until Jason announced himself.
They were pathetic.
How... How had he spent his whole life training, serving them.
"Is this why you require demigods?" Jason thought out loud "your weapons are nothing but relics collecting dust. Your feats are nothing but stories. Your power, nothing but a distant memory."
Jason almost pitied them.
Almost.
"So you spawn demigods to do your dirty work, your chores for you because you can't." He snorted.
They were nothing.
They were nothing so they trained their young to do their bidding.
Ignored... Alone...nothing but the fantasy of serving their parents who didn't care for them at all.
Fury.
"How dare you!"
"Oh I dare, all your good for is screwing a mortal and sitting on your backsides! I've lost friends! I've lost so many comrades on your stupid quests!"
A coldness settled in him.
A surety amongst his fury.
"I've lost my childhood, my life for beings who wouldn't care if I lived or died. They'd just bed another mortal and sent the fetus off to battle... And I won't lose any more for you."
Their was defiance in Jason's eyes as he eyed his father.
His father who looked at him with pure rage.
"If you do not silence that demigod Zeus... I will"
Jason didn't bother to see who spoke.
"No, this is my mistake and I will correct it."
"What are you gonna do, smite me? Gonna have to get one of my many... Many siblings to pull your bolt out for you."
Zeus snarled, but Jason was raised by wolves and simply scoffed.
His father blasted him.
Those watching would say it blew the egotistical demigod to smithereens.
Others say he transported himself elsewhere.
Hades himself vertified that the boys soul had not entered his domain.
Jason left, changed.
His yearning for a family had been stamped out.
He was nothing but a tool.
A soilder.
But now, now his sword wasn't pointed to monsters.
But the God's themselves.
They'd stole him.
They'd stole his dream.
They'd stole his childhood.
They'd stole the lives off their own kids to further their goals.
And Jason.
He watched as the crumbled throne of Krios reformed around him.
He sat atop it.
A smile on his face that was all teeth.
Teeth stained with ichor that he licked from his lips.
He was going to destroy them all.
And the fates they smiled upon him.
Their work here was done.
