What a Weekend!
This past weekend I was invited to Pella, Iowa from the team at Visit Pella.
Pella, IA is East, and just a touch South, of Des Moines, IA. It's home to the largest working grain windmill in the country, which you can tour!
Tumblr media
Dutch culture is very strong as many of the early residents of Pella were from The Netherlands. While I was sharing my walk-through town on Instagram stories (now on my highlight reel) I received so many messages from my friends in Europe thinking I was there, too! They said the large trucks gave it away that I was still in America. ;)
What surprised me the most on my trip to Pella was how much of a foodie destination this can be! We had excellent meals and pastries originating from Europe as well as some American classics. There was not a bad meal here to be found! (And we ate enough to be able to tell if there was...)
The desserts over at Vander Ploeg Bakery were scrumptious. Don't forget to get a Dutch Letter when you visit! It's a puff pastry with an almond paste.
Tumblr media
We had coffee over at Iris Coffee - a scientific take on coffee! Pairing what would taste best to get you the most amazing cup of coffee.
Big Acai Bowl had loads of smoothies and yogurt options for a midday snack or paring to breakfast!
Van Veen Chocolates had these spectacular cookie butter dark chocolates. Had to tell ourselves not to eat them all in one sitting!!!
We had some amazing beef jerky and beef sticks at In’t Veld’s Meat Market. It was some of the best we've ever tasted!
Liberty Street Kitchen was inside our hotel, The Royal Amsterdam Hotel . We had steak and fish and they were absolutely delicious. What really knocked our socks off was the crème brûlée! (Which we ate too quickly to get a picture of.)
Tumblr media
We also had some of the Pella Red wine from The Wijn House . It was a perfect way to relax while at the Royal Amsterdam Hotel after walking around town all day.
Tumblr media
I won't lie to you, by lunchtime on our first day in Pella my husband was already discussing when we could come back with friends and family.
We didn't even get a chance to enjoy all the outdoor activities near Lake Red Rock. Although I am fairly certain I will go there to enjoy the next astronomical event!
I really could go on and on AND ON about how much my husband and I enjoyed Pella, Iowa. Whether you're visiting Iowa, traveling across the US on I-80, wanting to go to Europe without a passport, or just looking for an amazing place to visit, Pella needs to be on your vacation dream list.
Tumblr media
See more of my Pella trip on the @bad_science_jokes Instagram with a full walkthrough or my little synopsis video.

these photos are just ripped from google but literally every street has tulips. 70% of even the normal houses have at least one tulip patch. There's an annual festival for the tulip blooming. Central park features the TULIP TOREN (like a tower, but useless!). It's incredible. I've never met another town like it.

1967 Ford Mustang - 05/10/23
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Figured with this post I'd clarify - the date at the top, for now, is the date in which the pictures were taken. Once I've run out of old material, I'll start using it just to mark the date of the post. This might suck when it comes to chronological backlogging. This 1967 Mustang is located in the front lot facing the highway at Doug's Four Wheelers in Pella, Iowa. No, he does not bean ATV's, Doug's specialty is 2WD and 4WD vintage trucks, as well as a plethora of dilapidated muscle cars and other such vehicles. He wants a pretty penny for most cars on the lot, usually a sum of two grand, however I think 2K is reasonable for a Mustang of this year and in this state. Sure, the interior of the car has been stripped and made into a home for chrome and other trim, but maybe it could benefit from a complete custom interior job. Maybe a racecar style barebones approach, some furry seats and fuzzy dice like a lowrider, or perhaps just a remade set of the original style. Either way, this Mustang could be a classy build or an all-out monster with the right owner.

Alexandra "Alex" Hunt (nee Spencer)
[All Thomas Hunt x Alex Spencer Masterlists] [All things Alex]
Book: Red Carpet Diaries / Hollywood U Husband: Thomas Hunt Children: Felicity, Vincent, Bogart (dog) Face Claim: Katherine McPhee (RCD FC)
*Alex began as a main character, but has become an original character now It only took almost 5 years to make a character page for her 🙈
What's in a Name?~ Alexandra Rose Spencer
Alexandra
Origin: Greek, feminine form of Alexander, derived from alexein
Meaning: "defender of men"
Why I chose it: I adore the name Alex and all variations of the name. It's one of my favorites which is why I chose it for my pen name... I have a complete unpublished manuscript from several years ago. Maybe one day I'll do something with it, but until then, I decided to give Alex her name because it means something to me
Rose
Origin: Latin
Meaning: rose, a flower
Why I chose it: My grandmother's name was Rose, when she passed I decided to remember her through Alex by giving her Rose as a middle name
Spencer
Origin: English
Meaning: derived from the Old French despensier, a steward
Why I chose it: One of my favorite TV shows of all time is Psych, so I gave her the last name Spencer after Shawn Spencer.
Nicknames: primarily Alex, she did try going by Lexi and Lex when she was in middle school, but decided they weren't for her
The Basics
Birthday: March 6 Zodiac: Pisces Personality: Artistic, Creative, Idealistic, Adaptable, Generous, Empathetic, Romantic, Trusting, Compassionate, Dreamy, Procrastinates, Avoids Conflict, Too Trusting Sexuality: bisexual

Laura had some complications during her pregnancy and childbirth so her and Henry didn't want to risk another. They were okay with it, because they loved Alex with all they were.
Unfortunately, Henry had a sudden and unexpected heart attack when Alex was 12 and passed away. It was hard for Alex and her mom. Alex turned her pain into her drama and theatre performances. Through the friends she made there, she found an amazing support system.
Laura is a nurse. Henry was an architect.
Education
HWU AU: Hollywood U
RCD AU: Tisch School of the Arts at NYU* *Don't hold me to that, I had a different school in mind, but at Tisch she could have met Olivia who was going to NYU at the same time and CoffeeShopAU!Ellie (if I ever finish it) who grew up in Brooklyn. Tisch would give me a gateway to bring those ladies into my RCD world. Current version of Ellie exists in my HWU universe!
More about Alex
Likes: coffee (particularly iced), doodling, painting (even if she's not the best), quiet moments away from the spotlight, her family, stargazing, mysteries, the ocean, hot baths, reading, movie night

eric balfour. 38. genderqueer. he/they. ┊┊ sebastian mccord , better known as agent stellaris has been with cerberus corp as an eo since 2012 and is LEVEL I. BEING STRUCK BY LIGHTNING and BEING RESUSCITATED THREE TIMES has gifted them PLASMOID MANIPULATION, though PROLONGED USE REQUIRES GREAT EFFORT AND METABOLIC STORES has also been noted. when they aren’t protecting the tri-state area, they are fond of knitting and are never seen without DRAGONFLY CHARMED NECKLACE. civilians think they are enthralling & passionate, but some of the other agents see them as avoidant & stubborn. cerberus corp should consider the fact that their last mission status was SUCCESSFUL though HE ACTED IMPULSIVELY AND INCREASED THE MAGNETIC LOAD OF HIS COLLEAGUES when giving out the next one.
TRIGGER: heavily detailed drowning
001.  GENERAL
name  sebastian mccord nicknames  sebby | seb | bastian age  38 date of birth  [redacted] zodiac  -- place of birth  pella, iowa current residence  staten island, ny gender  genderqueer pronouns  he/they sexuality  queer occupation  cerberus agent. former physics professor
faceclaim  eric balfour height  6'3" tattoos  several piercings  earlobes distinguishing features  has a scar from being struck by lightning that extends from the entry point [left pec], wraps around his back, and exit [right hip]. has it tattooed. positive traits  enthralling - passionate negative traits  avoidant - stubborn likes  vibrant fragrances - cleanliness - silence dislikes  unpleasant odors - abrasive personalities - intrusion fears  strong electrical currents hobbies  knitting - painting - reading - electronic salvage habits  chewing gum - talking in circles
002.  EXTRA ORDINARY
near death experience…  there is very little elaboration that Sebastian gives when describing the events that transpired during the entire NDE. Some nights he has the recurring dream of being thrust through an endless corridor and feeling as if his entire body was ignited within an instance. Almost as if every cell of his being encapsulated the charge of the bolt. The textbook answers for trying to predict the path of a lightning bolt by natural law fails him as he just remembers the entry and exit and the constant state of dwelling between states of existence. He should've died in that ER. BUT! We can almost blame the sudden jolts of cardioversion. All he could remember was the strangest sound of a grandfather clock thrumming at midnight.
power…  PLASMOID MANIPULATION. When you think about plasmoids, you think of little twinkling photonic bursts that often make firecracker noises when igniting or the crackling of a sparkler. Party tricks, really. Sebastian considers his ability to be just as frightening as small explosions that can fracture bone or level an entire floor of a high-rise- and that is just one condensed into the size of a coin. These aren't limited to two-dimensional objects or even spheres. He has been able to solidify a number of plasmoids into constructs that can burn through most metals and stone. Generally, the larger the plasmoid, the greater magnetic forces it can be used to pull to its nexus point. Creating a frame, he can hold objects within a field. At will, he can reabsorb these plasmoids back into himself to restore the loss of vital energy stores. He is sensitive to electric currents and can feel them. But to answer a favorite question, he could give a small firework display.
drawbacks / vulnerabilities… Prolonged use without increasing metabolic stores can decrease the proficiency, preciseness, and accuracy of his control. Should he cross such thresholds, he'd require a greater amount of caloric intake. Those with a greater degree of magnokinesis and electrokinesis. While using his powers, he can not physically use devices or he will short them or overload the device until it explodes. His body does increase in temperature and his cardiopulmonary rates can increase by 25% which is still normal for him. These hikes can send false distress signals. Someone who can control physiology could push him just beyond that limit and generate damage to himself and immediate vicinity. Due to his fear of lightning and foreign electric currents, he tries not to be as close to the origin due to being able to absorb too much. Given the circumstances, it is assumed he could detonate at a smaller scale which could have greater consequences in the observable world.
cerberus corp…  Much like the general; and safe, assumption, The Founders believed that he'd serve best as a Level II agent, at best. Reports they'd received only suggested he could short medical equipment and give cute little light shows when overwhelmed. To be fair, he'd accept anything given that he didn't feel safe enough to resume teaching while recovering and the sum of his abilities seemingly manifested the healthier he'd gotten. Just over a decade and he still can't quite handle how his life went from teaching college kids how to predict the trajectory of a cannon ball to discharging some of the most phenomenal physics mysteries.
codename…  Stellaris. Of or pertaining to a star. As his abilities manifested, they reminded him of gazing at a star or the radiance from a comet's tail when visible by the sun. He came up with it himself.
