Some dynamic jackasses this fine evening. Sketch and color.
I’m really starting to love traditional art again. May have something to do with the lack of constant panic that I’m wasting 8 dollar Copic markers. This is an Ohuhu household.

Agrinio in the region of Aetolokarnania. From Athens, you take the highway towards Patras and turn onto the new bridge called Rio Antirio towards Agrinio and Messolongi, the birthplace of my Grandmother, Sophia Drossopoulou Pappas. My grandfather immigrated to the US at Ellis Island in 1915. My grandmother, Sophia, arrived in 1920. They settled in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, which is where I was born. My parents were both born in Winston-Salem, NC and I am the oldest of eight kids.”
I found that information on the Internet. I wasn’t surprised at all that he was the oldest of eight kids being the oldest child causes many people to grow up highly responsible.
At the Blackbird Association reunion a few weeks ago I walked past Terry and RSO John Manzi. I quickly turned around and said hello to the two gentlemen. It was my honor to talk to both of them briefly as I didn’t want to interrupt for too long, intense conversation that the old friends were having.
I’m sure that part of their bonding experience with each other happened during missions in the SR-71 together, one that could have been devastating was when Terry found himself temporarily blind!
Being blind and flying the SR 71 that goes 33 miles a minute calls for quick thinking.
On Aug 9 1987 in the 975, Terry and John left Kadena, Okinawa heading toward southeast Asia to their distant target area in the Persian golf. It was a long trip
Terry had to maintain his contact position with tankers for three hours and 30 minutes, there were problems with refueling with the boom.
What temporarily blinded him was the effects of pure oxygen and his face plate on his pressure suit overheated.
He could not read his instruments.
Flipping his face plate up was not an option because of the greater dangers of decompression and hypoxia. He overcame this serious problem by squinting HARD to produce TEARS that small bit of moisture retrieved his vision enough to continue the long mission back to Kadena at night flying nonstop for more than 11 hours.
Remember that the RSO in the backseat John Manzi does not have flight controls.
I’m sure this and many other missions bonded the two into a friendship that will last for a lifetime. Paul Crickmore‘s “Lockheed Blackbird Beyond the Secret Missions” page 239 if you want to read more about it~Linda Sheffield

Today, I want to share my excitement about a fantastic prog rock band that I discovered a while back, Arena! 🎸 And it's all thanks to my love for Marillion, who led me to this incredible musical journey.
"The Mirror Lies" is an extraordinary song by Arena that has captured my heart and imagination. Its deep and thought-provoking lyrics have me pondering its meaning long after the music fades away. 🎶 The band's ability to blend powerful melodies with intricate instrumentation is simply mesmerizing.
Arena consists of incredibly talented musicians, each contributing their unique flair to the group's sound. With Clive Nolan on keyboards, Mick Pointer on drums (of course, the former Marillion drummer!), John Mitchell on guitar, Kylan Amos on bass, and Paul Manzi on vocals, their collective talents have propelled them to great success in the world of progressive rock.
Arena's journey in the music industry has been nothing short of remarkable. Their albums have garnered critical acclaim and have earned them a dedicated fanbase around the globe. Their creativity and innovation have kept the prog rock genre alive and thriving.
Let's take a moment to appreciate the birthday boy himself, Mick Pointer! 🥁 Mick's passion for music started at a young age, and he honed his skills to become one of the most influential drummers in the progressive rock scene. Did you know that Mick's time with Marillion in their early days played a significant role in shaping the band's signature sound?
As I eagerly await Arena's new album, "The Theory of Molecular Inheritance," set to release on 2nd September 2022, I can't help but wonder what sonic wonders await us this time. 🤩 The anticipation is almost too much to bear!
So here's to Mick Pointer, Arena, and the love for prog rock that continues to unite us all! 🤘 Let the music take us on incredible journeys and inspire us in ways we never imagined. Happy birthday, Mick, and thank you for the musical magic you've shared with the world!

THE SWEET #TheSweet @SweetOfficial #NewSingle #SingleReview #EverythingSweet #HellraiserTour #SweetOfficial #StillGotTheRock
The enduring and perpetually glam-buoyant founding fathers of glam THE SWEET have released a new single this week, titled “Everything (2021)”. It’s a re-recorded version of a song that originally appeared on the band’s 2002 album “Sweetlife” (issued, then, by Andy Scott’s Sweet.) The most recent incarnation of THE SWEET features the original founding member & guitarist Andy Scott, with lead…

Some unfinished Henry’s a la Procreate. Which will likely stay unfinished bc I’m on a traditional art kick at the moment. 🎨
Sorry to be repetitive, toot my own horn and draw the most vile piece-of-shit Ayreon character over and over again but this is genuinely the best character design work I have ever done
#ayreon#transitus#Paul Manzi#it’s the little mermaid hair sweep for me#canon design is goated don’t get me wrong#i love an over the top scraggly wizard lookin dude#but I feel like ‘suspiciously well-groomed’ lends itself really well to his whole situation#what with the being money hungry and obsessed with reputation to an alarming degree thing#like he’s trying to hide the fact that he’s capable of all the awful shit he does in Act II and is doing a really bad job#…I also just really like his glasses being oversized#grover fischoeder coded#anyways enjoy#the art and the lack of context from that list in the first image#art#fanart#arjen lucassen#prog metal#concept album#rock opera#character design

The CW's PROFESSIONALS Starring Tom Welling! #TomWelling #BrendanFraser #Smallville #Professionals
"PROFESSIONALS: Follows Vincent Corbo (Tom Welling, “Smallville,” “Parkland), a top-tier security operative who is paid to protect the interests of rich and powerful clients by any means necessary – legal or not. After a next-gen medical-data satellite explodes on launch, Corbo is hired by the rocket’s designer, billionaire futurist Peter Swann (Brendan Fraser), who suspects sabotage. Complicating Corbo’s new gig is his former paramour and now Swann’s fiancée, medical visionary Dr. Grace Davila (Elena Anaya), who is racing to help stave off a global catastrophe. As Corbo and his team of veteran security professionals investigate the rocket disaster, they expose a lethal conspiracy of Swann’s corporate rivals, corrupt government officials, and a shadowy crime syndicate – all working to destroy Swann and take control of his tech empire. Worse, Corbo must also contend with Swann’s spoiled, troublemaking teen daughter (Jazzara Jaslyn) and a rogue Europol agent (Ken Duken,) who is hellbent on busting him for past sins. A production of Most Media, Subotica, Spier Films and Roadside Attractions in association with Jeff Most Productions, LEONINE Studios, NENT Group and The Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa, PROFESSIONALS was created by Jeff Most and Michael Colleary who both serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. They are joined by fellow executive producers Tristan Orpen Lynch, Michael Auret, Howard Cohen, Eric d’Arbeloff, Jennifer Berman, Maijang Mpherwane, Dipak Chiba, William Smith, Herbert Kloiber, Thomas Augsberger, Cosima von Spreti, Fredrik Ljungberg, Maxim Korostyshevsky, Daniel Wagner, Bharat Nalluri, Brendan Fraser, Tom Welling, and Elena Anaya. The producers are Katy Most, Lwazi Manzi and Aoife O’Sullivan. Executive producer Bharat Nalluri directed three episodes of the series, including the pilot. Hollard Film Guarantors, represented by Paul Raleigh, provided a Completion Guarantee. PROFESSIONALS is distributed by Rainmaker Content for LEONINE Studios."

Backlog: 499.
* * *
The backlog went back up again because Bandcamp Friday really cashed in from me, but I fought it back under 500. Even other things I ordered -- yes, physical media purchased from retailers and marketplace sellers like in the good ol’ days of three fucking months ago -- aren’t hitting the backlog until they arrive and survive my multi-day postal quarantine process to get ripped.
Who knows how long it’ll take them to arrive, anyway?
Bizarre synchronicity for the week: been listening to Twisted Sister lately, and then what do you know, Arjen Lucassen has announced Dee Snider’s one of the singers on the new Ayreon record. With Snider, Johanne James of Kyrbgrinder (and Threshold), Cammie Gilbert of Oceans of Slumber, and Paul Manzi of Arena and the Sweet -- as well as a guest solo from Joe Satriani and Ed Warby not drumming due to scheduling conflicts -- this one’s shaping up to be one of Lucassen’s less-predictable line-ups.

Arena “Double Vision” tour 2019
I wanted to write a longer text about yesterday’s experience at the “Arena” concert that I went to. And maybe I will. Not on this blog though, because it won’t be about music but rather some meditation on “living in the moment”.
But I somehow feel that if I’d write now, I’d be slipping into “analyzing”. And I don’t want that. All I can say for now is that this last evening was simply magical. And I want the magic to linger on.
But if you’re interested in my - sort of - almost metaphysical ramblings, drop me a line and I might link you to them once they are finished.
I knew that Arena is a fantastic live band. But this show exceeded all my expectations. Plus: The guys are real lovely. I had the pleasure of having a little chat with each of them. And I would have never expected such a genuine interest in their fans. Singer Paul Manzi is a real sweetheart - we chatted about the show and the venue, about past albums and their reception, and how special the Arena audience is. Drummer and co-founder Mick Pointer is exactly the teddy bear I imagined him to be, and the beard really suits him. Guitarist John Mitchell apparently has a very dry British sense of humor, bassist Kylan Amos is super friendly and open, and obviously really enjoys talking with the fans. And keyboarder, founder and allround-genius Clive Nolan... well... what can I say? I have so much respect for this man. He is so into his art. When he saw the exclusive box-set under my arm that I just bought, he told me all about how they produced it an how much this is a love child and how he hopes that I will enjoy it (spoiler: I do!). Amazing people. Outstanding musicians. Fantastic evening.
I know that I wrote I won’t bring pictures. Well... I didn’t take my camera with me, so... but I snapped some shots with my phone during the show. Not good ones. Because I was way too immersed in the experience. Thank you, Arena. You broke a spell.
This was the first concert I went to in about 12 or 14 years. And I was blown away and completely “in the moment”.
Also, I bought a hoodie. I’m a middle aged fan-boy.
And I am not ashamed of it.
