Chickpea Brunch For brunch, I sauteed onions, garlic, chickpeas and the first fall greens coming up- radish leaves. For seasoning, I used sea salt, pepper, coriander, cumin, oregano, paprika, rosemary, thyme… Once done, I added a backyard egg, scooped it all onto a plate, and sprinkled over plenty of the garden’s parsley and marigold. Greenie’s wound care is coming along. We are all relieved to see him heal. It is a deep gash, so healing comes slow. We have time. All that matters is that he’s healing, and as he heals, his spirits and demeanor return - his comical, brazen nature begins to stir up fun again. I have often mentioned our farm layout- two rectangular-ish pastures connected with a top gate, creating a long “middle aisle” where the house sits within by connecting the pastures then at the bottom with step in, high tensile fencing. Then I let the horses out to mow the lawn, even then dividing that middle aisle area further by adding horse tape with step in poles as “upper” “middle” and “backyard” so they better mow down each area. I highly recommend this farm layout, as it maximizes grazing and minimizes your own mowing! I don’t even bother to totally block them off often, and Greenie knows it. There’s one small area I haven’t cut off, because who wants to wade through high grass? So about every hour or so, Greenie wanders through that opening and down to the yard to say hello. Queenie shrilly calls him back, which then notifies me, I trudge back out with a lead rope, scold him for happily, purposely deadheading my roses, then lead him back to where he is supposed to be, again. For him, it’s a game. Life is now good. . #PantryFood #covidcooking #PandemicCooking #AlphaGalFood #prefab #PastureManagement #quarantinecooking #offgrid #offgridLife #OffGridHomestead #OffGridLiving #PrefabHome #PrefabHouse https://www.instagram.com/p/CFMvLD1lWvW/?igshid=dvue91nqbn4p

What a busy weekend it's been with work around the farm... Here's a few pics of what we've been up to! . ✔️ Back paddock dug up, power harrowed, and re-seeded for hay ✔️ Willow cuttings planted in the laneway ✔️ New willow cuttings taken and put in water to grow roots ✔️ Second fenceline along the laneway private paddocks ✔️ Capeweed removed from new holding yards site ✔️ Hitching rail built next to the round yard ✔️ Day yards, post and rail, new gates, and stays measured up, quoted and booked ✔️ Two new garden beds installed for veggies ✔️... And lots of mowing, weeding and plant shopping! . Next week will be another big one for us with planting the veggies, bringing Polka into work, stepping things up with Tazzie, Jays first full week at his new job, and a big shed clean out. I love spring cleaning (well, spring chucking things out 😂) . Very grateful for all the rain we've had for our hay seeds, but looking forward to a sunny, warm day on Monday to get some more things done! 💪☀️😘 xx #farmlife #pasturemanagement #plowing #powerharrow #pasture #springtime #springcleaning #farmfence #fencing #postandrail #laneway #willowtree #horsemanship #horsetraining #horsebreaker #horsetrainer #equestrianlife #equestrianblogger #acknowledgedretrainer #dressagehorses #showjumpers #coltstarting #horseproperty #roundyard #roundpen #dressagerider #showjumper #equestrian #sunset #australia (at KRequestrian) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4FKA0NHsoE/?igshid=1hgi34x9j70jm

Bush hogged a bunch of our pastures. I've been undergrazing for several years as we grow our sheep flock. As a result a lot of annual weeds have been overtaking our fields. Before they went to seed I thought it was best to hire someone to mow it down. This restarts our no-spray pastures and helps us catch up to the grass as we expand our organic grazing operation. #pasturemanagement #organicpastures #bushhog #bushhogging (at Dawnbreaker Farms)

Photos taken yesterday while walking the perimeter fenceline and removing all brush and downed limbs. Although it's greening up, our pastures are still dry as the Sonoran. We need rain!

Hey everyone, hope you're all well! We've had a massive week here, sorry I haven't been very active! 🙈 This week saw me working extra shifts, the last three trucking along with the most horrendous toothache ever (which also meant I didn't do much with the horses). I went in today for a root canal which wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it'd be - and no pain afterward, winning! 😂 Our farm contractor came this afternoon and dug up our back paddock, which means we'll be able to grow and cut our own hay! This will be fantastic come the winter time when good bales are hard to source and cost a fortune. I'll also be able to ride on it as the crop trenches are now gone! 😁🙌 We got onto our lovely fence man who will be coming asap to put in a couple of fence lines to keep the horses off our willow trees. Someone MAY have gotten over the electric fence and demolished a row, but that horse or pony shall remain nameless... 🙄🤦♀️😂 Everyone had the farrier today and they were all perfect angels, and I've gotten in touch with our physio to check Polka over before he commences ridden work after our big break. So excited to get back on board! I'm a week back into physio and strength training, and all is going great with that, and Jay starts his new job tomorrow 💕 Told you it had been a crazy week! 😂 Looking forward to a slightly less crazy one next week, and fingers crossed for smooth sailing through the coming months. Back into work with the horses tomorrow, keep your eyes peeled for updates 💪😁🐎 xoxo #farmlife #pasturemanagement #plowing #powerharrow #pasture #springtime #horsetraining #horsebreaking #horsebreaker #psychology #animalbehavior #naturalhorsemanship #roundpenning #horsemanship #warwickschiller #sttdp #horsetrainer #equestrianlife #equestrianblogger #acknowledgedretrainer #breaker #coltstarting #showpony #ponyclub #dressagepony #dressagerider #showjumper #equestrian #sunset #australia (at KRequestrian) https://www.instagram.com/p/B36zlbNHnSF/?igshid=ahrnaruftxya
