Little P.Eng. for Discrete Element Modeling (DEM) Services
In a world driven by technological advancements, the ability to understand granular systems at a particle level has never been more essential. This precise understanding has been made possible through a computational technique known as Discrete Element Modeling (DEM). While many entities offer DEM services, Little P.Eng. has carved a niche for itself as a front-runner in this specialized domain.
Understanding Discrete Element Modeling (DEM)
Before diving into the specifics of Little P.Eng.'s offerings, it's essential to demystify DEM:
DEM is Calculation-based Modeling: At the heart of DEM is mathematics. This method uses precise calculations to predict the behavior of individual particles within a system. By doing so, it can accurately predict the interactions and outcomes when these particles are subjected to various conditions.
DEM Allows for Visualizing Results: One of the standout features of DEM is its ability to provide visual results. Users can observe:
Particle Velocity: Understand the speed and direction of individual particles.
Forces: This includes shear (parallel to the surface) and normal (perpendicular to the surface) forces that the particles experience.
Moments: This refers to the bending and torsional (twisting) moments affecting the particles.
Acceleration and Material Scatter: Track how quickly particles move and the variations in their dispersion patterns.
DEM: More than just Flow Simulation: While DEM is instrumental in predicting the flow of bulk materials, its capabilities extend beyond this. It plays a crucial role in understanding:
Wear Patterns: Predict how equipment will fare over time by simulating particle interaction and the resultant wear.
Mixing: Understand how different particles mix, which is vital in industries like pharmaceuticals and food production.
Center Loading: This refers to the loading pattern where materials concentrate towards the center, crucial in industries like construction.
DEM Programs: The Power Behind the Predictions
Any tool is only as good as the software powering it. When it comes to DEM, numerous programs can be used to perform this intricate modeling:
EDEM: A market leader, renowned for its comprehensive modeling capabilities.
PFC (Particle Flow Code): Known for its versatility, offering both 2D and 3D simulations.
LIGGGHTS: An open-source powerhouse that's both versatile and widely accepted.
Rocky DEM: Its strength lies in simulating realistic particle shapes, crucial for specific industries.
Yade: An open-source tool prized for its extensibility.
Abaqus: A multi-faceted software that, beyond its renowned finite element analysis, offers DEM capabilities.
Ansys Rocky: Building on the Ansys platform's strengths, it focuses on granular flow simulations.
Barracuda Virtual Reactor: Ideal for energy sector applications, especially particle reactions.
Also there are some open sources:
Kratos Multiphysics is developed by CIMNE (International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering) in Barcelona and covers all kinds of numerical simulations, including DEM/PEM and DEM/PEFM-FEM coupling.
YadeDEM is a DEM package that is specifically designed for geomechanics.
Woo is a fork of YadeDEM with a strong focus on parallel computing and portability.

btw for those of you who are so lucky as to not have taken quantum mechanics. turns out that particles (at least those w/wave behavior) can and actively do just. essentially teleport. they don’t actually teleport, but what’s actually happening is that they’re moving through imaginary space to get around physical barriers that they by all classical laws of physics should not be able to get around. and not only do they do this with fairly regular frequency, it’s HOW REACTIONS HAPPEN. you spend three years learning about chemistry you feel like you’ve got a good handle on what’s going on down there and then they tell you that when two molecules do a proton transfer, odds are fair that that the proton did not move through real physical space when it transferred! it just quantum tunneled its way over!! and we’ve known about this for a CENTURY.

Giant particle detectors for neutrino project - Technology Org
With excavation work complete at the site where four gigantic particle detectors for the international Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) will be installed, scientists are preparing to begin construction on first detector. Part of that work occurs at The University of Texas at Arlington.
Jaehoon Yu, UTA professor of physics, stands on an elevated platform inside the DUNE field cage prototype
Located a mile below the surface at the Sanford Underground Research Laboratory in Lead, South Dakota, the three colossal caverns serve as the core of a new research facility that spans an underground area about the size of eight soccer fields.
Hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), DUNE scientists will study the behavior of mysterious particles known as neutrinos to solve some of the biggest questions about the universe. These include why the universe is composed of matter, how an exploding star creates a black hole and if neutrinos are connected to dark matter or other undiscovered particles.
Jaehoon Yu, professor of physics, and Jonathan Asaadi, associate professor of physics, are leading UTA’s involvement with the project.
“The actual excavation took only a year, which is amazing,” Yu said. “It’s great that the excavation work is finished, and preparations can now be made for the installation of the detectors. This is an exciting time.”
The caverns provide space for four large neutrino detectors—each one about the size of a seven-story building. The detectors will be filled with liquid argon and record the rare interaction of neutrinos with the transparent liquid.
With DUNE, scientists will look for neutrinos from exploding stars and examine the behavior of a beam of neutrinos produced at Fermilab, located near Chicago, about 800 miles east of the underground caverns. The beam, produced by the world’s most intense neutrino source, will travel straight through earth and rock from Fermilab to the DUNE detectors in South Dakota. No tunnel is necessary for its path.
UTA’s Department of Physics has been involved with the DUNE project since its earliest stages. In January 2016, Yu organized a four-day international planning conference at UTA.
UTA physicists will now build portions of the first two detectors to be installed at the South Dakota site. Specifically, they will construct modules of the field cage—100 modules for the first detector and all 200 of the modules for the second detector. The work will take place in the Chemistry and Physics Building.
“We’re going to need to recruit a lot of students to help with this work,” Yu said. “We need to bring them in as freshmen and sophomores so we can train them, and they can be with the project as long as possible, including for the installation.”
Yu will lead UTA’s efforts for construction of parts for the “far” detector in South Dakota. Asaadi is working on portions of the “near” detector at Fermilab.
The DUNE collaboration includes more than 1,400 scientists and engineers from over 200 institutions in 36 countries.

F!reader spoils Lil Dragon!Zhongli... at first | Fluff🧸 (with dragon)+ 🔞 (with human Zhongli)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🎨by: @nagarnia_art and @JeanGreyCG
Summary: You're doing some research in the woods, looking for certain minerals, when you feel some tiny tiny eyes staring at you. After Zhongli morpps from a dragon to a human, things get a bit... hot...
Tw: with human Zhongli smut 🔞, PIV. Insinuations of breeding season, with dragon Zhongli just some cute Dragon behavior bc I ended up traumatized after writing some angst.
•┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈••✦ ● ✦••┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈•
Your research is going well. Your reports to the Fontaine Science Institute were successful during your last expedition, earning you praise from your superiors. You have been living in Liyue for over six months. After learning about minerals that can emanate energy, you sought out information to educate yourself on the subject.
The rocks in Liyue seem to have a memory, possibly due to the work of their Archon or as a natural result of high evolution and energetic vestiges from ancient wars.
Zhongli, the Parlor consultant, had told you about a spot at the foot of a valley that might interest you, and you were amazed. You had no reason to doubt the man's wisdom. You had formed a deep bond of friendship with him because you admire his extensive knowledge about everything. You set off almost immediately. He had offered to accompany you, but you had refused because you prefer to do your research alone, surrounded by nature and away from the attractive distraction that Zhongli could become.
Your friend is attractive, in a way that you tried to express in your letters to your friends at Fontaine, but never succeeded. Your banal words and names do not do justice to the physique of this man of unshakable character, steely sense, and tenacious gaze. You could not bear to make a mistake in his presence during the expedition, not because you were clumsy, but because his figure moved your senses, your ground, and betrayed your own perceptions.
So, as you walk through a pleasant area of foliage, covered by the fierce, scorching rays of the sun, you decide to let your guard down, to take off your jacket and your gloves. You use a ribbon to tie up your hair as you walk on, arriving at the place Zhongli had shown you beforehand. The passage is strangely comfortable, very suitable for a quiet investigation, full of strange figures of small rocks of irregular and curious shapes.
Under the canopy of large trees, you spread out your arsenal of tools on the grass, put on your protective visors, and get to work. Sequencing the rock profile takes little time, your agile skills allowing you to avoid unnecessary pauses or clumsy backtracking typical of an amateur. Then you take the samples, tiny particles that do not alter the correct and productive nature that King Geo has protected for years, and while you wait for the filtering to finish, a strange sensation runs down your spine.
You had let your guard down during your experiment, letting the peaceful appearance of the place convince you, something very unprofessional on your part. So you turn to the side and feel a presence. Among the bushes, you spot a pair of curious little spheres, and you jump as the leaves rustle in the presence of an unknown being.
A deep relief washes over you as the creature in question appears on the scene. A small dragon, microscopic in physiognomy compared to adult forms, with curious eyes and a golden tail twisted into a spiral. Its little paws make furrows in the ground, its face dejected, as if it had been caught doing something illegal.
"Little one, have you been watching me all this time?" You ask the cute little creature, who hides his head between his front paws, realizing he can't do it with his tail, which isn't long enough.
"Come here, don't be afraid of me," you whisper, approaching it cautiously, holding out your hands.
The dragon gathers itself in its own anatomy, growling low, sounding almost like a common cat, you can't help but laugh at it. You bring your fingers up to the growling pellet and stroke its head, right between its underdeveloped horns. You notice a puff of breath coming from the little guy's nose.
"How cute, you liked that, didn't you?" you laugh as you stroke his head and then his back, causing the miniature dragon's tail to wag.
"Come, sit with me, we'll have to wait a long time until the filtering is finished," you take him in your hands, on your palms.
"Wow... I've never seen one of your species so small... and those scales," you comment, bringing your face close to the reptile's, "I'd swear you have very, very soft skin, you're very rare, uh," you add, while you turn to your tools, which emit a strange smell.
You leave the dragon on the ground and approach your machinery, no, nothing out of place... well, now you can turn your attention to the little guy who... what is he doing?
You notice the tiny creature rubbing against your foot, making strange squeaks. It's... it's mating with your shoe? You burst out laughing and shake your foot, pushing it away and picking it up again.
"You horny little bugger," you say, poking him in the nose, "I forgot that your species is in mating season. I regret to inform you that you will get nowhere with me, I am not of the same species... ours is impossible."
A sad sigh escapes from the little animal's chest, and you notice how its whole face becomes depressed, its horns and ears seem to droop in deep disappointment.
"Don't cry," you say, putting it on the ground in the grass and lying down in front of it, "we can play if you want, to distract you a little”.
That got his attention, because he looked at you again. He walks up to you with his little paws and puts one on your nose, he starts to sniff you with that little button in the middle of his little face.
"Ohhh... do you want a little kiss?" you ask, flooded with tenderness, "I would do anything to make you happy" you say, placing a tender kiss on the dragon's forehead. Is like a puppy...
The dragon retraces his steps, accelerating and rolling his head in madness. You see him writhing in place, as if he had suddenly fallen ill, and then... poof... a golden flash and a trail of smoke,  ike the one he had just exhaled through his nose. A faint wave of heat and a faint smell of sulfur as a figure began to form behind the column of smoke.
You straightened up in your seat as the column disintegrated, revealing the very embarrassed image of Zhongli, covering his mouth as he coughs, with traces of smoke and golden flames escaping from his throat.
He is wearing little clothing, a tunic of the same color as the skin of the dragon you spoke to earlier... is that perhaps...?
"You," you point an accusing finger at Zhongli, and he looks at you with flushed cheeks, "what was that? Aren't you going to say anything about it?" you say to the man, appearing to be annoyed, although in reality, seeing him in that outfit has aroused something pleasurable in you.
"Well?" you insist.
"Are you going to give me that kiss or?" he interjects, his voice still weak and embarrassed.
His embarrassment fades for the next hour, during which he relentlessly thrusts himself into you, waiting for your boring explorer machine to end.
The filtering of the rocks continues, the particles falling into the vessel like sand in a crystal clock. The small machines emit tiny clicks and a faint plume of smoke and gas. The rumble of the cycle's drumbeat advances in rhythm with your moans as you feel Zhongli sink deep into you.
You lie on the grass, your pants and panties around your ankles, your hands on your head clinging to the foliage, your waist encircled by Zhongli's large hands holding you steady so he can work his way into your pussy. You feel his pelvic bone against your center, his balls against your skin, and then he pulls away to enter again. Gently, lovingly, afraid to break you and hurt you. He's painfully slow, but how good it feels.
You hear him make low, rasping noises as faint plumes of smoke rise from his nose, as when he looked like a dragon. His cock twists inside you, slapping against your cervix, massaging your wet, warm depths that mold to the shape of his member. You feel the warmth rush down your legs, an electric current coursing through every fiber of your limbs, your chest heaving in desperation.
The orgasm hits you both at the same time, decorating Zhongli's cock with a white ring as his cum spills into you like thick ropes from his ecstasy. He pulls back your panties and pants, leaving a chaste kiss on your cheek.
"May I mark you?" he asks with a look of honor, his face sublime and devoted.
"Don't even think about it," you say, joining in, noticing the sadness in his eyes, "we weren't even supposed to do it. It was just supposed to be a kiss and that's it," you seem to scold him, though it's you who's scolding yourself for being so unseemly and impetuous, though damn... you've enjoyed it so much... ....
Sensing your hostile tone, Zhongli wraps himself up and immediately transforms into his small reptilian form.
"Please stop being so dramatic," you express, leaning against one of the tree trunks and letting out a laugh. "Come back... I don't want to wait alone," you say, crossing your legs and putting your jacket down.
Zhongli, the dragon, approaches you with short steps, due to the length of his small legs, and climbs onto your lap, where he rubs the fabric of your coat, nestling into the fabric to take refuge, and lets out a yawn before closing his eyes and settling down for a nap. You stroke his back and coo to the little creature, feeling him purr like a cat.
"How cute you are when you sleep," you laugh, stroking his nose, causing him to bite your finger, "did you just mark me without my permission?" You ask, but he just squeals and jumps off your lap, looking for a way to escape. You catch him with your coat and throw it at him like a fleeing rat, but he manages to escape and hide in the bushes... you don't see him again for the rest of the afternoon, but you know that when you return to Liyue Harbour you will demand an apology, an explanation... and maybe a round two.

hello dear physics explainer, can you explain to me how/why photons are both a wave form and a particle?
oh that's easy. light isn't a wave or a particle.
I mean that's it's not a wave, and it is also not a particle.
light is light. it is a strange substance that has a lot of strange properties. we can model the behavior of light in a few different ways, however. If we are working with light and we are interested in interference, then it is useful to model it as a wave and treating it as a wave will predict its behavior reliably. If we are trying to do something with the photoelectric effect, then it's far more useful and predicative to model light as a particle.
think of it like map projections. this is the mercator projection:
Tumblr media
it wildly distorts geography the closer you get to the poles, so it is not useful for finding the area of any sea or landmass; however, the lines of longitude are perfectly straight, which makes it a very useful map for navigation.
This is the Goode-homolosine projection:
Tumblr media
This is quite a good map for accurately finding the area of landmasses. But because the lines of longitude point in different directions across the map, it's worthless for navigation.
asking why light is both a wave and a particle is like asking why the Earth is both Mercator-shaped and Goode-homolosine shaped. It isn't. It's not. The earth is round. We just need multiple models in order to interpret it two dimensionally.
photons are quantum objects. the only way to accurately model them in totality is via quantum theory. but that isn't useful for most of the things you'd want to measure photons for, because it's much too complex. wave-photons and particle-photons are both practical simplifications of quantum-dimension objects.

Rose would be a shitty girlfriend but people really miss the flavor with exploring that when they take it as Rose not liking Kanaya as much as vice versa as opposed to her being painfully into Kanaya but not knowing how to like. Empathize with other people properly and being too self-absorbed to attend to any of Kanaya's needs, or even really notice when her own behavior is hurting her.
I think it's pretty well-established that Rose is super into her. Girl who drank her ass off before their first date bc she was nervous and constantly turmoiled over whether or not Kanaya was going to break up w her and wanting to make things better between them even leading up to her death, only people to say that she doesn't like Kanaya. If Kanaya broke up with Rose she would perish. Lines like "I never even got to tell her I love her" tell us nothing if not that Rose was painfully in love with Kanaya, but could never find it in herself to tell her. Whether this is because she was trying to protect herself on the chance that Kanaya got sick of her shit and decided to break up or because Rose was so out of it constantly she just could never get it out is up to interpretation. But Rose being a shitty girlfriend and her relationship with Kanaya being extremely important to her aren't concepts that are mutually exclusive. If anything I think they play hand in hand.
I also just think people need to give Kanaya more autonomy than they do. Don't get me wrong the power dynamic IS inbalanced. Rose is insane and constantly making mistakes and impulsive decisions and Kanaya is always left picking up the pieces when she does something crazy. Rose hurts Kanaya to an incomparable degree. Kanaya has far more patience for Rose than she probably should, but she isn't a doormat. The entire interaction Kanaya and Rose had on the meteor, where Kanaya flipped out on Rose for drinking right before they were due for a big fight, tells us so much about what their dynamic was leading up to this imo. This is a conversation they've had countless times before, Kanaya's anger is always followed up with some fearful suggestion from Rose that Kanaya is going to break up with her. Kanaya is a girl dealing with a partner deep in the throes of alcoholism, she's painfully compliant, but their interactions both leading up to them getting together and once they do both on the meteor and off of it show that the relationship anxiety is very one-sided. Rose is the only one worried about them breaking up, because she sucks and she knows that. Kanaya cares deeply for Rose but if either of them are going to be cooly cutting things off between them it's her, not Rose.
I love giving rosemary divorce particles, I can never be convinced that two girls who got together That Young could make it work between them without a ton of bumps in the road. I love that Rose is fucked up and self-centered and I like when people acknowledge this, but she DOES love Kanaya. To her own detriment. Kanaya is the one constantly disillusioned by Rose's behavior, the one who's commitment is constantly tested, not the other way around. Wish more people could acknowledge this... Rose loves Kanaya! And Kanaya loves Rose too, I think. But people really wooby her when they try to frame even the likes of pre-retcon rosemary like Kanaya is a nothing but a victim of Rose's vices, and that Rose somehow doesn't actually want to be in a relationship with her.
Pre-retcon rosemary was definitely on track to an untimely break up though. Rose wasn't going to be the one to pull that trigger though

normies believe that physicists have a strange, almost mystical model of the world, and they are correct in this belief, but gettier-wise, that is, for incorrect reasons. they think its about half-dead cats and time paradoxes. but its way more fundamental and irresolvable than that. modern physics says, fundamentally, that the world is a list of (complex) numbers assigned to each (of the continuum-many) point in space, (these are the "fields" you hear so much about). the world is no more and no less than that. the list of numbers is not even very long. theres like, two dozen numbers. and then that's it, all of reality summarized with two dozen number assignments. this model of the world is very very good at modeling the behavior of subatomic particles, and pretty good at modeling the behavior of the large composites of those particles. theoretically, it should be essentially perfect at modelling those larger systems if we had the computing power. but...philosophically, this is a very strange view of the world! of what it means, for there to be things in a location, that interact in certain ways. that doesnt mean its a wrong view, i think its probably mostly right. but it makes physicists sort of weird out-there types, by necessity

Our ability to image the subatomic realm is limited, not just by resolution, but also by speed. The constituent particles that make up – and fly free from – atoms can, in theory, move at speeds approaching that of light. In practice, they often move much slower, but even these slower speeds are way too fast for our eyes, or technology, to see. This has made observing the behavior of electrons something of a challenge – but now the development of a new microscope imaging technique has allowed scientists to catch them in motion, in real time.

Everything is connected through vibrations✨
When you speak, 2/3 are vibrations you absorb with 1/3 producing the actual sound. The vibrations create sound waves that travel through air & cause nearby objects to vibrate.
The vibrations affect the eardrums of listeners, facilitating communication. On a quantum level, they influence particle behavior and contribute to energy transfer and wave interactions.
Over time, these vibrations can alter the way sound behaves in a space which can affect your mood, concentration and life experience in that environment.

- Mental instability and obsession
- Self-harm (implied through powder effects)
- Unsettling and erratic behavior
Masterlist
Summary: Late one night, Viktor’s research is interrupted by a genius from Zaun with a mind as brilliant as it is broken. Fascinated by Viktor and obsessed with meeting him, you sneak into his lab for the first time. How will he react to the intrusion—and your dangerous experiments?
Words: ~5187~
Part 2: Mad Genius
Part 3: Mad Genius
Part 4: Mad Genius
The lab was quiet, save for the rhythmic clink of gears and the hum of machinery. Viktor leaned over his desk, quill scratching against parchment as he recorded yet another failed attempt. His body was weary, the ache in his joints an ever-present reminder of his limits, but his mind remained sharp, calculating possibilities.
A sigh escaped him. Tonight felt like a lost cause. Another promising theory reduced to mere scribbles.
Then, a faint creak echoed through the room. Viktor's hand stilled, fingers tightening instinctively around his quill. His amber eyes flicked toward the window—ajar, though he didn’t remember leaving it that way.
He straightened slowly, gripping his cane as a shadow slipped from the darkness beyond.
And then he saw you.
You stood in the middle of his lab, your presence chaotic yet strangely deliberate. In your hands, a vial of shimmering Magenta Powder glittered in the low light. You turned it between your fingers, a manic grin spreading across your face.
“You,” you whispered, your voice giddy with reverence. “You’re even more perfect up close.”
Viktor's gaze sharpened. “Who are you?”
You tilted your head, ignoring his question entirely. “You’ve done so much... with so little,” you murmured, stepping closer. "I’ve followed your work for ages—every blueprint, every invention. And now...” You held the vial up as if offering a gift. “I’m here to show you mine.”
Viktor's frown deepened. “You shouldn’t be here.”
“Oh, but I had to be.” You laughed, the sound crackling with unhinged delight. “You’re Viktor. The Viktor. Do you have any idea what it’s like to admire someone so much it burns?”
Viktor shifted uncomfortably, his grip tightening on his cane. “What is that?” he asked, nodding toward the vial.
“This?” You grinned wider. “Just one of my little creations.” You pulled out another vial—Crimson Powder, swirling like liquid anger—and gave it a shake. “Each powder with its own special curse.” Your eyes glittered with manic pride. “I’ve tested them all... on myself.”
“You’ve poisoned yourself,” Viktor muttered, alarm flickering beneath his stoic exterior.
“No, no, no!” You waved the vial enthusiastically. “It’s not poison—it’s progress! The mind must be pushed, stretched, broken... or it never grows.”
Viktor exhaled slowly, as if trying to ground himself. “What does it do?”
You uncorked the Magenta Powder and blew a small puff toward Viktor before he could react. The fine particles glittered in the air, catching the dim light like dust motes.
Viktor coughed, waving it away, but it was too late. The powder clung to his clothes and skin. His heart raced as an unfamiliar warmth spread through him—a sharp, dangerous affection unfurling in his chest.
He blinked, confused, as his thoughts began to twist.
You stepped closer, your grin softening into something almost tender. “Feel it yet? That little twinge in your heart? That’s obsession.” You tilted your head. “For the next two hours, you’ll feel like you can’t live without me.”
Viktor’s breath hitched. “You’re insane,” he whispered, though his voice lacked conviction.
You giggled, brushing your fingers along his arm. “Oh, Viktor... You say that now, but wait. Soon, you’ll see the beauty in it.”
For a moment, Viktor was silent, his mind caught between logic and the strange, overwhelming emotion coursing through him. He knew the powder was clouding his thoughts, warping his feelings—but that knowledge didn’t make it any easier to resist.
He stepped back, gripping his cane tightly. “You need help,” he said quietly.
“Help?” you echoed, feigning offense. “I don’t need help, Viktor. I need you.”
His heart pounded painfully against his ribs, and for the first time in a long while, Viktor felt genuinely unnerved. You were dangerous—not just to him, but to yourself.
“I can’t allow this,” he murmured.
Your smile faltered, just for a moment. But then it returned, sharper than before. “Oh, Viktor... you can’t stop it. You and I—we’re meant to do great things. Together.”
Viktor swallowed hard, forcing himself to think clearly through the fog of obsession. “You need to leave.”
You stepped even closer, until your face was inches from his. “And if I don’t?”
He stared at you, torn between the irrational affection clawing at his mind and the cold logic that defined him.
“I’ll find you again,” you whispered. “You can’t hide from me, Viktor.”
Viktor closed his eyes briefly, trying to banish the unnatural feelings welling inside him. When he opened them, you were already backing toward the window, a satisfied grin on your face.
“Until next time,” you whispered, slipping into the night.
Viktor stood there for a long moment, the hum of his machines filling the silence. The powder’s effects would fade—but the memory of your manic grin, your dangerous brilliance, and the unsettling warmth in his chest would linger much longer.
He knew, deep down, that this was only the beginning.
