How Much Does It Cost To Develop a Car Parking App?
The cost to develop a car parking app depends on various factors such as features, platform (iOS or Android), and the complexity of the app. Basic features like GPS tracking and parking spot availability will cost less, while advanced features like real-time updates, payment integrations, and user ratings will increase the price. On average, developing a car parking app can range from a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scope of the project.

You’re safe with me
Pairing : Sergio Checo Perez x reader
Summary- y/n sister of Carlos Sainz. When he followed his dreams of being a f1 driver she followed hers and became a firefighter. After things went south on a call y/n decided to move in with Carlos.
A/n : so this is an idea I’ve had for ages and thinking of writing a whole story on this idea. This is my first time actually posting something as never had the confidence to post but after seeing so many amazing writers on here and other apps I thought I might as well try so please no hate or negativity. If you have any advice then feel free to share and if you think I should write a whole story then please say and I will do my best 🙏
Y/n watched the world go by as she sat in her favorite park, her gaze distant and unfocused. It was as if she was watching a movie play out before her eyes, with all the characters moving in slow motion. She knew everyone around her, the way they smiled, the way they laughed, the way they lived their lives. But she felt disconnected from it all, as if she were merely an observer in someone else's story. Her mind wandered back to the countless times she had watched her brother, Carlos, race his heart out on the track, cheering him on from the sidelines, her voice echoing above the roar of the engines.
She remembered the day she had decided to become a firefighter. It had been an impulsive decision, born out of a desire to protect those she loved and make a difference in the world. Little did she know that it would lead her down a path filled with heartache and loss, with every victory she achieved coming at the cost of someone else's suffering. But she couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in her accomplishments, even as she struggled to come to terms with the darkness that lurked beneath the surface.
The wind picked up suddenly, rustling the leaves of the trees and sending a shiver down her spine. Y/n looked up, her eyes meeting those of a stranger who was staring at her intently. For a brief moment, they locked gazes, and she felt a strange sense of familiarity wash over her. It was as if this person knew everything about her, all her secrets and fears, and they were offering her a glimmer of hope in return. But then the moment passed, and the stranger turned away, disappearing into the crowd like a ghost. After sitting in the park for a while y/n decided that she couldn’t be here, in this town anymore. Y/n picked up her phone and rang her brother.
Carlos: hey y/n are you okay?
Y/n: um yeah I’m okay. Um I’m just wondering if… I… um… could come move in with you?”
Y/n held back the tears trying to escape her eyes as she spoke to her brother.
Carlos: yeah of course you can move in when are you coming I’ll get a room ready.
After couple hours flight, Y/n smiled as she spotted her brother, Carlos Sainz, standing outside the airport terminal. He looked as handsome as ever, dressed impeccably in his racing gear. Despite the hectic week of training getting ready for the race on the weekend, he'd managed to take time out of his schedule to pick her up from the airport. She hadn't seen him in months, not since the accident at work.
It wasn’t a long drive but seemed like forever. Carlos tried making small talk but y/n wasn’t really interested. She was in a world of her own as she stared out of her brothers car window. No one knew how bad the accident was. All they knew was that y/n was in an accident at work.
Finally y/n and Carlos arrived. The paddock was abuzz with activity, a whirlwind of color and motion that seemed to swirl around her like a dream. She had been away for months, as y/n stepped out of the car the familiar smell of racing fuel and burning rubber hung thick in the air, mingling with the sounds of engines revving and tires screeching. It was like being in a live-action painting, vibrant and alive with the energy of a thousand hearts beating as one. Y/n thought it was nice to be back with her f1 family. Everyone was excited to greet y/n but there was one particular driver who was more excited to see her.
As Sergio Perez turned the corner, his heart skipped a beat. There she was, standing by the lockers with her brothers and his friends, her back to him. It had been months since they'd last seen each other, and the familiarity of her figure was almost overwhelming. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves as he walked towards her. His gaze drifted over her shoulder-length hair, the way it casually fell across her back, and the way she was hugging herself, as if she were cold. He fought the urge to run up and envelop her in a warm embrace, instead opting for a friendly wave as he neared.
“Hey, y/n!" he called out, his voice sounding a little more nervous than he'd intended. She turned around, a small smile playing at the corners of her lips. But the usual sparkle in her eyes had gone. Before her eyes would sparkle in the fluorescent light, and Sergio would find himself blushing, but this time was different.
"Hey, Sergio," she replied, her voice soft. "It's good to see you ." She walked over to him, her steps light. He noticed that she was wearing the same perfume she had been wearing the last time they'd met, and it made his heart race a little faster. But as she got closer Sergio could see something was wrong.
Fast forward to race night
The sun began to dip below the horizon, bathing the grid in a warm, golden light. The race was about to end. Everyone cheered as the drivers rushed past the checkered flag. Max at P1, Sergio at P2, and Carlos at P3.
The three men stood on the podium as they celebrated their wins. The crowd cheered and shouted celebrations. Fireworks exploded overhead, their colorful bursts of light painting the sky with a kaleidoscope of colors. It was a beautiful sight, one that would have filled her heart with joy on any other day. But tonight, the sound of the explosions sent her spiraling back to that fateful night, the night of the explosion that had taken the lives of so many, including those closest to her. the fireworks only served as a painful reminder of the day that had changed her life forever. She couldn't help but shiver as she stood on the edge of the crowd, her heart racing and her palms slick with sweat. The memory of the explosion was as vivid as if it had happened only yesterday: the screams of terror, the heat that seared her skin, the deafening boom that shook the ground beneath her feet.
Sergio Checo Perez stood on his podium and searched the crowd for y/n. As soon as his eyes landed on y/n, He could see the pain in her eyes, the fear that gripped her soul, and in that moment he jumped off the podium and raced to y/n in the crowd. His fellow drivers and his team was shouting for him to come back and celebrate the win but he had to do everything in his power to make her feel safe, to make her feel loved. He knew that the accident was more than a normal accident that can happen on the job like she had said. He knew there was more to the story, he knew that the the memories were painful, he knew what was happening as he has experience people he knew go through the same thing and he could never erase the memories that haunted her, the demons that tormented her every waking moment.
Now, as she sat there, on the floor in the crowd, watching the fireworks light up the sky, she felt him approaching, his presence a warm, comforting blanket wrapping itself around her. He knelt down beside her, his expression a mixture of concern and understanding. "Hey," he whispered, reaching out to take her hand. "You don't have to go through this alone." She didn't know if she could believe him, but for some reason, she found herself leaning into his touch, feeling a small spark of hope ignite within her. "I know it's hard," he continued, his voice gentle and soothing. "But we'll get through this together, okay?"
Her eyes met his, and for a brief moment, she allowed herself to believe that maybe, just maybe, there was a chance for her to find peace, to find happiness again. And in that moment, she knew that she wasn't truly alone anymore.
They sat there together, watching the fireworks explode overhead, their fingers intertwined. As the last of the fireworks faded away, leaving the sky empty and black once more, Sergio leaned forward, his lips brushing against her ear. "You're okay. You are safe with me," he whispered.
Y/n closed her eyes, feeling the warmth of his breath against her skin. She knew he was right. Slowly, she turned her head, meeting his gaze once more. There was something in his eyes that she had never seen before, something that told her that he was in this for the long haul.
As they sat there, the wind picked up again, sending a shiver down her spine. But this time, it felt different. It felt like a new beginning, like a promise of better things to come. And for the first time in a long time, Y/n allowed herself to believe that maybe, just maybe, there was still goodness left in the world, still a reason to keep fighting, to keep going.
Hand in hand, they rose to their feet, the weight of memories and losses not so heavy now. Together, they began to walk through the paddock , their steps echoing through the darkness. As they walked, they talked, sharing stories and laughter, finding solace in the comfort of each other's company. And with every step they took, Y/n felt a little lighter, a little more at peace.
Eventually, they reached a small, secluded clearing, surrounded by tall, ancient trees just outside the circuit. Sergio turned to face her, his eyes searching hers for an answer. She knew what he was asking, and she knew what she wanted to say. Slowly, she nodded, her heart racing with anticipation and fear. He smiled, a soft, gentle smile that made her heart skip a beat, and then he leaned forward, his lips meeting hers in a kiss that was both tender and passionate.
As they kissed, the world around them faded away, leaving only the two of them, their love for each other the only thing that mattered. And in that moment, Y/n knew that she had found her home, her place in the world after everything she had been through. She knew that together, they could face anything, overcome any obstacle. Because no matter what happened, they would always have each other.

It's not yet noon, and this is already a fantastic day.
On Thursday I pedaled my bicycle downtown to work. When I bike I leave my regular wallet, with its many cards, at home. Instead I put cash, a Visa card and my driver license in a thin plastic case normally used for business cards. It fits my pocket better. If I lose it I don't have as many things to replace.
Somewhere in Minneapolis, on a busy road (with bike lanes) my wallet fell out of my pocket. I had recently been to an ATM, so there was over $100 in there. I felt awful. As soon as I noticed I shut off the Visa via a phone app.
I had my name and phone number on the case. You never know, there can be nice people out there. Using my label maker also makes me happy.
Early this morning, while at the dog park, my phone rang. A guy found my little wallet while he was bicycling and wanted to get it back to me. Quickly I left the park to meet him at a farmers market in Richfield, along the route I pedaled to work on Thursday.
We met up. He handed me the wallet. Everything was there!
I tried to give him some cash. "At least let me pay for your lunch today," I suggested. He refused the offer. He commented that the label with my name and phone number was a fantastic idea. He planned to do the same thing. Had my label maker been in my truck I would have insisted he take it.
When I got home I saw my neighbor spreading black dirt and grass seed in his yard. I asked where he filled his trailer full of dirt. He told me there's a composting facility a few miles from our houses that sells topsoil. It's inexpensive, he added, and they fill truck and trailers for you so you don't need to load it yourself.
Damn! Each year I usually buy ten or so bags of black dirt from a home improvement store. I use the dirt to fill holes one of the dogs dug or various low spots in the yard. Those bags cost $3 to 4 each.
The half yard of soil (it nearly filled my pickup truck bed) was $13. Holy cow, how had I not known about this place all these years?
I'll add some grass seed to the soil and spread it around the yard later today. For now I think I'll treat myself to a nice lunch then take a nap.

Small Encounters
Itadori Yuji x Reader
!Basketball College AU!
You walk out of class and see Itadori ready to pick you up. What is he doing here?
2/?
☆*:.。. o(Second Small Encounter)o .。.:*☆
You walk up to Itadori's car, watching the tinted glass roll down. "Pleasure seeing you again, but why are you here?" You hunched over so your head would be in view of the window. Itadori smiled showing off his pearly white teeth at you, getting out of the drivers side, grabbing your bag and placing it in the back seat before opening the passenger door for you.
"I told you I was going to pick you up. Wheres the gratitude L/n?" He chuckled a bit before ushering you into the car. "I have a game today and I have to be there in an hour. I don't want to rush you but I really do have to get ready soon." You stared at him in confusion, thinking to yourself 'Why would he pick me up if he has somewh-' your thoughts get interrupted as Itadori begins to ramble again.
"Can I get ready at your place? I'll take you to the game, Nobara said you were coming so why not just come with me to the game. We're both going to the same place, less gas, better for the environment ya know. Don't want these happy trees to wither up because I decided to drive around my car. You get me?" Your mouth gapes as you stare at him. He sheepishly smiles at you.
"No offense Itadori, but I just met you and you already want to come to my apartment? You seem chill but are you sure you want to come to my place?" You strapped on your seat belt, you really wouldn't mind his company. You make a mental note to text Kugisaki that someone else is giving you a ride to the game, you'll just meet her there.
"If you're fine with it, I would love to get ready at your place! I really do wanna get to know you more L/n" You sat in your own thoughts for a while as he started the car, feeling the engine pur beneath you. He handed you his phone so you can type in your address into the maps app.
'He's not a bad guy right? What's the worse he could do? I would like to get to know him better too. Everything is gonna be fine.' You thought to yourself. Looking out the window as the cars seem to blur right pass you.
After some time, you arrive to your apartment, you show him to the parking garage that lies beneath the complex. Having rich siblings was a great benefit because they seemed to pay for the expenses that were out of your budget, for example, your apartment.
"Woah I didn't know you were rich like that dude. This garage is so dope and it's only the parking garage!" He slightly glances over to you as he pulls into one of the guest parking spots.
"Eh I'm not rich, I don't pay for my apartment." This confused Itadori a bit, he shrugged it off as he went over to your side of the car and opened the door. After you exited the car, he went to the back seat and collected his and your bags. "But anyways, you have a nice car! Probably cost a fortune." Matching Itadori's pace, his long strides were hard to keep up with but you managed.
"My sensi bought it for me. He's hella rich! He bought it for me when I became a starter on the basketball team" Once again, Itadori had managed to shook you again. Leaving you in confusion as you enter the elevator door. You pressed the 6th floor and stood in a nice peaceful silence as the soft jazz played in the background of the elevator.
"So what position do you play?" The elevator dings, you watch the doors open slowly. Stepping out and grabbing the keys to your apartment out of your bag.
"I'm a point guard, but I'm pretty good at all positions." He stretches his arms over his head, cockiness lingered in his tone. "I've been playing since grade school, so many years ago I dont remeber the age I actually started playing." You arrived to your apartment, unlocking the door and letting Itadori in first since he was carrying quite a few bags.
"Dude your place is sick." He wonders around the kitchen and living room after placing the bags down near a chair. He looks at all the pictures you have around your living area, all the trophies you had on display. "Who's B/n? And damn are they good at volleyball! National champions is so impressive!" You walk towards Itadori, placing your slippers on your feet.
"That's my brother, not sure if you heard of him but he plays Volleyball professionally." You grabbed a small rag and cleaned off any smudges the trophy had. Since your siblings were always away you only had small memories of them.
"WAIT DAWG YOU'RE THE LEGENDARY B/N SISTER?" He grabs your shoulders and shakes you violently, Itadori had seem to become comfortable around you... and you were glad.
"Yea, I don't tell many people about it." You rub the back of your nape as he loses his grip around your shoulders. "Too much attention and some people take advantage of me having a 'famous' brother" You sighed as you walked over to the fridge. Silently mumbling some words to yourself, wanting the topic to change from your brother and his achievements to something else.
"What do you want to drink?" You yell over your shoulder towards itadori who was now sitting at the small dinner table that stood in the middle of the dining room.
"You have hi-c or redbull?" he yelled back slightly, turning his head to the side. His eyes land on the upright steinway and sons piano that leaned against the wall. You walk in with many juice boxes of Hi-c fruit punch, just incase Itadori wanted more. "Yo L/n" you hummed in response. "You play piano?" You slightly nod your head, walking back into the kitchen to grab some protein bars and snacks for Itadori.
Once you sit down, he calls out your name, grabbing your attention. "Can you play something for me?" Although you always hear this question, it always makes you nervous. Itadori notice you tense up a bit. "You don't have to play if you want though!" he grabs a juice box and stabs the straw in the top of the box.
"Its fine, I have to practice playing in front of people more anyways." You wipe the sweat on your pants before taking a seat on the piano bench. "Anything you want to hear?" You glance over your shoulder at Itadori, he had move closer to you, pulling up a chair right behind you.
"Play runway by Kanye!" He crossed his legs on the chair, now sitting cris-cross, as he watched your every move precisely. You pressed the E key on the piano, then letting your fingers run across to play the song. Letting your fingers glide across the keys like butter. Itadori watched in silence, amazed by your captivating skills. The song comes to end end, turing your body to face him.
"So did you like it? I messed up a little. It's been a while since I played that, sorry." I gave him a tight lipped smile. He had his mouth slightly open.
"L/n.... that was so beautiful." His voice was a meer whisper. "You're playing is so beautiful and elegant." He locked eyes with you. "I saw you walk out of the music building. Do you major in music?" Itadori seemed interested in you career, which was rare to you. Kugisaki hates it when you talk to her about music, but Itadori seemed to actually pay attention.
"Yea, I'm a Jazz studies Major. Nothing flashy but it's pretty neat." You stand up from the bench, walking over to the dinning table and grabbing a juice box.
"Do you have a concert or something coming up? I would love to see you play again." He followed you arond with his gaze.
"Yea I have a recital in three weeks. You should come!" You look at the time on your phone. it was 4:36 "Um.. Itadori what time do you have be at the gym?" You looked at him, once again you were running late.
"I gotta be there at 5, Why?" He pulls out his phone to check the time. "Oh my god! Where's your bathroom I have to change!" He rushes around your apartment.
"Its down that hall to the left. Im going to get ready real quick, knock on my door when you're ready to leave!" You walk into your room, slipping into a different outfit before putting on some more chapstick and a light layer of mascara. You fix your hair and put on new socks, opening the door of your room. You walk into the living room and see Itadori slipping on his slides, he was wearing his basketball shorts and a black hoodie. "I'm almost ready, let me just put on my shoes." You tell Itadori as you sit on the floor, shoving your foot into your shoe aggressively. You walk to the kitchen counter and grab your keys, a pack of gum, some water, and a hair tie. After grabbing all your necessities you walk out the door.
"Okay let's go, do you mind if we drive fast?" Itadori says in a rushed manner, you finish locking the door. Speed walking to the elevator as Itadori just takes longer strides.
"Nope, as long as you make it on time." You decide to take the stairs instead. It would be faster and its good for cardio. Itadori takes the lead as he skips multiple steps at a time, you rushing behind him. Finally making it into the parking garage, he unlocks his car with a click. Opening the passenger door for you, you let out a small thank you as you get into the car. He enters into the drivers side, throwing his bag to the back and starts the car.
"Just making sure, you're fine if I speed right?" Itadori quickly pulls out of the garage, heading onto the highway towards the school.
"Yes I'm fine with it, now step on it bro!" The car roars loudly as he shifts gears, the lights from the outside turn into flashing streaks. You take a look at the speedometer and see Itadori is going 110 MPH/177 KMH.
You make it to the school campus in a blink of an eye. 4:56. Just on time. You and Itadori rush into the gym, you take a seat on the bleachers, watching your pink hair friend lace up his shoes.
Suddenly your phone rings. Looking at the contact name, your heart drops a little.

July 18th, 2022 Monday
“I’m gonna close my cash register”, Eunchae announced as she started finishing her monitor’s system. You were refilling the cups under the counter for tomorrow’s shift and only hummed in response.
You only had around forty minutes before closing the coffee shop, no one but you and Eunchae were around the place. The day was pretty chill, the biggest rush of the shift being a group of teenagers who ordered eight lattes, so you weren’t tired. You didn’t say a word about being nauseous, though.
As time passed by, you started getting used to the whole pregnancy idea. You didn’t tell many people about being pregnant — actually, you only told your mom, Jake, and the girls, since the doctor told you to keep down as much as you could —, but people started to wonder why you were so cranky and nauseous all of the time.
You just turned somewhere around nine weeks pregnant, according to the previous exams you performed at a new clinic, this one being closer to your place. Maybe because you were a little psychosomatic or maybe because your body started to work harder to grow a life, you started experiencing other symptoms, like extreme tiredness, morning sickness (that was just sickness all day long if you didn’t take some sort of medicine), sore breasts, and tiny cramps. These cramps scared the hell out of you since you thought your body was rejecting the baby.
Your phone rang with a notification. It was your app telling you that your baby was now the size of a strawberry. You smiled at it.
“Is it your lover?”, Eunchae asked, seeing your silly face. You scoffed.
“Yeah”, you lied.
Even though everything was so new, you were internally dying to tell everyone about the pregnancy. You knew that the risks of miscarriages were higher during the first trimester and avoided that thought at every cost, so you just kept it to yourself. You wouldn’t be able to handle the pity faces around you if you ended up losing that baby.
“Hey, Eunchae”, you called, closing the cabinet underneath the counter, now full of paper cups. “Could you cover my shift for me tomorrow?”, you asked.
“Yeah, sure. Are you ok?”
“Yeah, yeah. I’m good, I just have an appointment. Just a regular appointment”, you explained more than you needed. Eunchae chuckled.
“Glad to know you’re healthy.”
You laughed, stretching your back.
“Thanks, Chae”, you smiled. You walked towards her and gave her a back hug. “You’re the best.”
“I know”, she laughed.
July 19th, 2022 Tuesday
“I’m sorry, it’ll be a little uncomfortable”, dr. Park announced before inserting the transducer. It wasn’t as bad as the first time but still was not enjoyable now at your third time.
Jake stood right behind your head, his both hands crossed right under your chin, caressing your skin softly. He was happy, excited to see your little one on that crapy gray screen.
“Alright, everything seems fine. Here is your baby, ms. Choi”, the doctor pointed towards the screen.
Jake jolted in place and took a couple of steps forward, now next to your head. His eyes were shining towards the screen, looking at the tiny spot the doctor showed.
“I know this procedure is pretty unpleasant, but it is great to announce that everything seems fine. As long as I can see, there is a single gestational sac and a single embryo, so... No twins for now”, she chuckled. You and Jake sighed, a little relieved before laughing together.
“So... The baby’s fine?”, you asked, smiling.
“So far, so good.”
“Good”, Jake reassured before holding both of your hands and kissing them. Good.
“What do you think about taking a shower while I cook dinner?”, Jake asked as you walked inside of your apartment.
“Depends”, you responded with a playful smile. “Are you gonna burn it again?”
“Hey!”, he scolded also in a playful tone. “Can’t a man make the same mistake like... Twelve times?”
You laughed, placing your shoes inside of the cabinet. Jake did the same as you sat down on the couch, looking down with a pout.
“What’s wrong?”, he asked, rolling his sleeves up.
“I’m bloated”, you moaned, opening the button of your jeans. You sighed in relief as your tummy felt free.
“Baby, you’re pregnant”, he laughed, entering the kitchen.
“But I don’t look pregnant”, you pointed at him with an eyebrow raised. He chuckled, nodding.
“When do you think I should tell my parents?”, Jake asked in a soft tone, afraid the subject would make you uncomfortable.
“I don’t know, babe”, you answered. You watched his back as he walked around your tiny kitchen grabbing utensils to cook. “Whenever you feel ready?”
“Maybe we should wait until the first trimester is over?”, Jake asked, reaching for the rice pan. “‘Cause... You know...”
“I know”, you nodded, even though he wouldn’t see. “But it’s fine if you feel like telling them right now, love. I told my mom right away.”
“For different reasons, though”, he said, turning away to look at you. His hands were busily washing the rice as he spoke. “You knew she’d be pissed, you were trying to rip the band-aid off as soon as possible. I want to tell my parents ‘cause I think they’ll be happy.”
Jake turned his back to you again, washing the rice for the second time. You seemed surprised.
“You think they’ll be happy?”
“I’m almost 100% sure”, he shrugged.
“Aren’t they like... Super religious?” Jake made a funny sound, almost like a “meh” and you laughed. “Isn’t this a child conceived in sin?”
“I mean”, Jake laughed. “They believe in God, go to church every Sunday and shit... But they got married ‘cause my mom got pregnant.”
“Oh”, you said, genuinely surprised. You laughed a little relieved, shaking your head. “That’s... Good to know, I think.”
Jake laughed in response.
“They’re not judgmental, I promise”, he continued. “I’m pretty sure they’ll ask if they can come and visit once the baby’s here.”
“You think they’ll fly all the way from Australia?”, you asked, shocked.
“Absolutely”, Jake responded.
You nodded again, caressing your belly. At the same time it hurt you that your mom would probably stay in Tokyo no matter what, it felt nice knowing you’d have some sort of support. You grew up by yourself, your father passed away when you were five, you didn’t have any relatives near — your grandparents lived in the countryside, while you grew up in Seoul —, any siblings, anyone to play with during the holidays. Even if that support didn’t come from your part of the family, it made your heart heal a bit.
“I’m a little scared”, you told Jake after a long yawn.
“Of what, baby?”, he asked in a caring tone, chopping vegetables next to the sink.
“The thought of your parents hating me”, you said in a funny tone to disguise your fear. Jake stared at you, his face almost blank.
“That is so not possible”, he said, seriously. “Now, stop thinking about that sort of crap and go take a shower”, he pointed towards the hallway with the knife.
“You’re so toxic”, you mumbled in a fake grumpy tone. Jake laughed.
While you took your shower, Jake finished cooking his bibimbap and set the table for the two of you. This has been his routine lately. He’d pick you up at work, cook you the lightest and healthiest dinner he could — thinking about the baby’s health and cuddle with you for the rest of the night. Honestly, he was pretty happy about it.
Jake never thought his life would have such a turnaround in such a small amount of time. In a matter of months, he went from being your friend-zoned roommate to your boyfriend and then your baby daddy. At the same time his heart was filled with love and a huge amount of happiness towards becoming a father, he felt a little scared of how things would work out with you. What if you woke up in a while and realized you didn’t want to be in a relationship with him anymore, let alone be the mother of his child? With a sigh, Jake shook his head, letting go of these thoughts.
He sat on the couch and turned the TV on, waiting for you to turn the shower off. His fingers were fast while reaching for his phone and typing “baby names”, trying to get his mind a little moment of ease.
He scrolled for about five minutes, taking notes of the names he liked. He was going to ask you to do the same later, so you could start thinking about the funny part of having a baby. Jake couldn’t wait to start thinking about the nursery and baby’s clothes. What if you guys threw a baby shower? That would be so cute!
Jake got off the couch as he heard the bathroom door being opened. He walked towards your bedroom, following you like a puppy.
You were sitting in front of your dressing table wearing nothing but your towel around your body, your hair damp and falling down your back as you tried to detangle it. Jake smiled and took the brush out of your hands, carefully brushing your hair for you. You only smiled, closing your eyes. You felt loved.
“Let me know if it hurts”, Jake mumbled softly. You hummed, your eyes still closed.
“You never hurt me, silly”, you responded with a soft smile. Jake chuckled, shaking his head as his slim hands carefully detangled your locks.
“You know...”, he started. “I was thinking about the fun part of being a parent...”
“The fun part?”, you asked funnily.
“Yeah, thinking about the nursery, picking out names... That sort of stuff”, he shrugged as he placed the brush down on your dressing table. You turned around in your chair, watching as Jake sat down on your bed and held his hands.
“Can you stop being cute?”, you asked with a pout. Jake chuckled, his ears getting red as he got shy. “I’m so excited about the nursery and the layette”, you sighed. “But deep down I’m still afraid I might have a miscarriage any time.”
“Don’t do this”, Jake warned and squeezed your hands. “I know you’re scared and everything is happening ridiculously fast, but we can’t let our fears run our lives, ok?”
You pouted, feeling hot tears filling your eyes. You weren’t crying because of fear or because Jake “scolded” you, but because you never felt like that before.
“Don’t cry, love”, he pouted, caressing your cheek. “You’ll see, everything’s gonna be just fine.”
“I know”, you whined with a nod before throwing your body towards his. Jake hugged you tight for a long time before the two of you actually went to have dinner.
July 20th, 2022 Wednesday
“Hi, mama”, Jake greeted over the phone. You were asleep and Jake took the opportunity to call his mom before going to bed with you. He sneaked out onto the balcony and called her.
“Hi, Jaeyunnie”, she greeted excitedly. “Is everything ok, baby?”
“Yeah, I just needed to tell you something”, he responded, nervous. “You remember I told you y/n are together, right?”
“Of course I do”, she responded right away. “Why? Did you break up?”
“No!”, Jake exasperated, laughing. “Jesus, woman!”
Jake’s mom laughed along, their laughs almost identical.
“We... We are actually pretty good, which is why I called you.”
“You’re getting married?!”
“No, mama, listen”, Jake chuckled after sighing. His mom laughed again. “We... Are kinda expecting a baby.”
His mom didn’t say anything for about 10 seconds. “Kinda?”
“I mean...”, Jake shrugged. His mom chuckled.
“Are you happy, Yunnie?”, she asked with a sigh.
“I am”, he responded genuinely. “She’s really scared... I’m also scared but I’m trying to keep my cool and...”, he sighed.
“If you’re happy, I’m happy”, she said. “I love you and I’ll love my grandchild just as much, but I need to know if you two are really happy about it.”
“We are, mama.”
“Alright, Yunnie”, she sighed. “I’m gonna talk to your dad tomorrow and we’ll call you back, ok?”
“Ok”, he smiled softly. “Love you, mama.”
“I love you too.”
August 6th, 2022 Saturday
“Hey mate”, Jake greeted Jay as he opened your shared apartment door. “Come on in, you’re late.”
Jay rolled his eyes as he entered your tiny and filled apartment. You and Jake invited your friends over to announce your pregnancy to them. Chaewon, Sakura, and Yunjin were sitting on your couch while Heeseung and Sunghoon were sitting on the floor. You were cooking a lasagna for them, initially telling them it was supposed to celebrate the end of the first semester of the year.
“Hi, y/n”, Jay greeted over your counter before plopping himself down the floor with the boys. You smiled and waved at him while Jake came back to help you with the dish.
Thirty minutes later, the lasagna was in the oven and you were sitting with your friends while you played Jenga, waiting for it to fully cook. Sunghoon lost in less than ten minutes and you enjoyed the chaos to sneak yourself to the bathroom, feeling a little nauseous. You thought you would throw up because Jay and Heeseung wore way too much cologne, but you didn’t. Jake seemed worried when you came back for the next game. All of you took turns to play mime until the food got ready.
You realized how badly you were missing the chaotic atmosphere your friends had as you had lunch with them, laughing all of the time. Jake also seemed happy, almost crying with laughter every time Heeseung said something silly. After everyone was full, you just stayed at the table, having small talk and Jake squeezed your thigh carefully, almost asking for permission. You nodded and cleared your throat.
“I need to tell you something”, you said with a sigh. “The girls already know, so you don’t have to pretend to be surprised”, you chuckled. Chaewon rolled her eyes, pouting. “The reason why Jake and I reunited all of your animals together is to tell you that... I am pregnant.”
Heeseung laughed, thinking it was a joke, Sunghoon had absolutely no response and Jay seemed ridiculously confused, with both his eyebrows frowned. When Heeseung read the room, he stopped laughing and tried to cover it with a cough, making you laugh.
“You’re serious?”, Jay asked.
“Dead serious. Almost 12 weeks”, you responded, holding Jake’s hand beneath the table.
“Oh, my God, come here”, Jay whined, getting up. He walked towards you and gave you a bear hug, feeling happy for you. Jake laughed at his reaction, only to laugh harder after Heeseung and Sunghoon got up to hug you as well, following the leader.
“How did that happen?”, Sunghoon asked after congratulating you.
“Don’t ask stupid questions, I don’t want any details”, Yunjin mumbled and you laughed.
By the end of the evening, you were on the couch surrounded by your friends, Chaewon hugging your torso and caressing your belly as if it were her child. The baby became the main subject, and everyone suddenly got excited about throwing you a baby shower.
You were happy.

ok gang who's ready for the story of the bullshit I've been dealing with today?
so the day is already off to a promising start because I have to take my cat to the vet for his 3 times a week fluids treatment, so we're sequestered in my bedroom and he's waking me up because he has to mess with my stuff and can't just leave the room.
but eventually he chills out and we both go back to sleep.
I wake up and see I have a couple of missed calls. one's a voicemail from the body shop.
rewind for a bit: I had a car accident back on the 4th of July. I didn't mention it here because it was basically a fender bender, no one was hurt, and I didn't have to pay for anything since the other guy was considered at fault. but part of my car got crunched pretty good, so it went to the body shop for repairs and that's where it's been for the past two weeks.
anyway, my car is ready, so it's time to return the rental and get my car back. after taking the cat to the vet, which thankfully was without incident on my end but took some time because of an emergency they had.
I go to the rental place and return the car, and they try to stick me with the extra costs even though my claims adjuster said it should be free of charge to me. the extra costs being they were unable to provide a car in the covered size, so according to their contract with the insurance company the upgrade should be free to me. and I don't want to be a Karen about this but I also don't want to get the runaround from two groups telling me two different things. it also makes me wonder who the heck my claims adjuster talked to since she said she would give them a call. because really, it is neither my fault nor the insurance company's fault that they didn't have a small car available for my reservation. hell, maybe it isn't the rental place's fault either since they say they're returns based, but looking at the cars they had at their lot, I have to wonder if they DID have any small cars at all.
in any case, they charged it to the insurance company minus the fuel I agreed to cover (since I chose the option to bring it back on an empty tank instead of trying to match what fuel I had when they loaned me the car.) and they give me a ride to the body shop.
I get there, my car looks great, I go in to get my key and sign off on the paperwork.
and then my car won't start.
I go back inside like ??? and they go, "yeah we've had to jump your car a number of times while working on it." which, they didn't tell me that before?? and Dad and Razzz jumped on this being suspicious, but we'll get to that.
the guy jumps my car, I drive it over to the nearby AutoZone, and the car dies just as I'm pulling into the spot. I think, "well, if it is the battery, I couldn't have asked for a better spot for it to die."
I go in, I tell the dude what's up, and we jump my car again to get a read on the battery. things look bad but inconclusive, so he recommended I take it to another place to see if it is just the battery or if something else is going on. and I can't get it out of the parking lot.
fine. ok. I knew one day I'd have to cowboy up and handle things, so I pull up my insurance app and request roadside assistance for a tow. I don't have roadside included in my plan because this is the first time in the 7 years I've owned my car that I've needed roadside assistance, so I figure paying it out of pocket this one time balances out. they say it's going to be possibly 2 hours for them to get here, and I have to be at work in an hour at this point, so I make arrangements to have the car towed without me there.
fortunately the guy at AutoZone was happy to help, but that led to an interesting interaction. he saw the stickers on my car, including an Arkansas sticker in the colors of the Progressive Pride flag. and he asked if I knew a friend of his who was trans. we had a nice talk about it, but in my brain I was like, "??? We Don't All Know Each Other!" don't get me wrong, I would love to meet his friend! but we don't have like a meetup place or a psychic link.
THEN I call Dad to see if he can give me a ride. he can't, and that really should be the end of the conversation. but no, dads gotta dad, so he asks for more details about my car trouble and tells me it's super sus that I get the car back from the body shop and suddenly it's having this trouble. and it's like he's not wrong but he is not solving any problems by talking to me about them over the phone at that moment. he was also like, "the car didn't give you any trouble like this on your vacation," and I was like, "because I had the rental on vacation and haven't had my car for two weeks!" I eventually had to be like, "I'm handling it but right now if you can't give me a ride I REALLY need to get on the phone with someone who can!" that fortunately did the trick, and I jumped onto Uber.
I managed to get an Uber just in time for work, and the driver was weird about me slamming her doors?? I didn't think I was but she seemed to think I was slamming them. I wasn't even thinking really, just wanted to shut the door firmly because I don't want the door just hanging open. but that's whatever and I managed to remember to not "slam" the door when I left.
also, while in the Uber, I got a call from the tow truck saying he was almost there. I updated him on the situation including the guy at AutoZone who I left my key with. and turns out tow truck guy and AutoZone guy are friends who used to work together! that at least was a happy coincidence.
somehow I made it to work on time, then I was on the phone for like an hour talking to various people about the situation and where the car got towed to because it was brought to a different dealership (and actually the one I would have chosen had it been offered as a default on the app) and now that whole mess of it is sorted. as far as they can tell, it IS just the battery, but I asked them to make sure just in case anything else happens with the car. I will be a little sore if it IS just the battery because AutoZone could have resolved that problem without me paying for a tow, but I would rather be safe than sorry about my car.
anyway that's been my day so far. how are y'all?

All My Love Is Gift-Wrapped - Read on AO3
For @silverskull
@chenfordsecretsanta
Angela and Wesley open their home for the ultimate holiday bash, welcoming the team to an unforgettable gift exchange. For Tim and Lucy, it's a moment that is as familiar as it is new—filled with joy and the unmistakable feeling of being surrounded by a chosen family.
Tim and Lucy arrived at Westfield Century City early on a Wednesday morning. They had planned to avoid the Holiday crowds by going midweek on their day off, but parking alone took them half an hour and another 15 minutes were spent just getting from their spot to the mall's entrance. Lucy smiled apologetically up at Tim as they stepped inside, greeted by screaming children, overwhelmed parents, and every other procrastinator in LA who had left their shopping for five days before Christmas. She rose on her toes to press a chaste kiss on his cheek.
His lips parted to say something, but the familiar argument fell on deaf ears as Lucy waved at him and took off running up the stairs to the second floor of the shopping center. Seeing her practically gliding, the crowd seemingly parting to let her through, an enamored smile broke on Tim's lips. It quickly turned into a frown when two boys collided with his back and didn't even bother to apologize as they ran off again.
They really should have ordered off Amazon; there was a reason they paid for Prime after all. But Lucy had looked appalled at his suggestion and told him in no uncertain terms that, quote unquote, you had to put in the time and effort to find the perfect gift, not just browse an app for 5 minutes.
Tim would do anything to make Lucy smile, so he had begrudgingly accepted, and here they were. They were supposed to each get a half-hour on each floor to look for gifts before they met back by the car to go get Kojo for a run then to lunch at the outdoor cafe with the Avocado toast Lucy liked and the ice cream place next door that always gave Kojo two pup cups.
Tim looked at his watch and made a bet with himself that he could get it all done in 15 minutes without even needing to check the second floor.
Twenty minutes later, Tim was a lot more frustrated and still had no gift. He had tried Lululemon first, figuring he could knock off one of the gifts quickly, but the line had lapped around the store twice, and he had gone running back out. Then he tried H&M, but that was even worse. He even tried Macy's, hoping the many checkouts would give him a good chance to be quick about it, but most of them were closed.
After the failed fourth store (Vineyard Vines this time, which made him shudder just by crossing the threshold), Tim plopped down on a bench and reached inside his pocket for his phone. He scrolled through Amazon in Private Mode on his browser and found five possible gifts in less than a minute. He added two items to his cart then looked for apology gifts for Lucy, finding at least three good options in seconds of searching.
Tim added all three to his cart and sighed when the total was less than the cost of most single items he had seen today. He was about to create a new account so Lucy would have less of a chance of figuring out what he had done when he considered asking Genny to order them for him. But his sister, his only sister, always sided with Lucy ever since they had met in that Little League game where she figured out they were dating, so he quickly discarded that option. He went through the whole process of creating a new account only to hit a brick wall when the delivery time without Prime was too close for comfort.
Defeated, Tim closed the browser (after saving Lucy's gifts to his bookmarks for later) and rose unsteadily to his feet. He breathed a sigh, steeling himself for another round with the mall, silently wondering what it said about him that he'd much rather face a perp with a gun than anxious Angelenos at a mall five days before Christmas.
As he was about to enter another store, his phone pinged with a message from Lucy, and he smiled automatically.
'Heading down now. Got both gifts for the party and a few others I was missing, but I still want to see what I find on this floor. Love you.'
Tim responded with a thumbs-up emoji and a smiley face, a stark contrast to the scowl currently adorning his face. Of course, Lucy had gotten who knew how many gifts already while he was still looking for his first.
Tim's second attempt at not failing spectacularly at gift shopping went better than the first. He ended up with a City Police Lego Set (the one with 172 pieces because the adult Legos were decidedly not cheap, and he figured if nobody else wanted it, Lopez or Harper could try to win it for their kids) for the White Elephant Exchange and a Shacket from Bloomingdale's for Nolan.
Because, of course, the team had decided to do both a regular Secret Santa and a White Elephant Exchange, if only to torture him further by not only having to attend a Holiday gathering at Angela's but also having to brave the mall in search of two gifts.
And really, he loved his best friend dearly, but this was all Angela's fault. She had been the one to invite them over then quickly point out how she wanted to do the White Elephant, because it would be completely out of character if she missed an opportunity to mess with them. Not surprisingly, Lucy had pouted and said she preferred the more personal and heartfelt Secret Santa, with Wesley and Nolan agreeing with her, and surprisingly, Harper agreeing too. With James also voting for that option (after a glare across the bar table and a well-placed kick to his shin from Harper), it was obvious Tim and Angela were hopelessly outnumbered. But his dear best friend had played the Hostess Card and roped them all into doing both games.
Thus, he ended up shopping for two gifts the week before Christmas while he had already gotten all his gifts for Lucy, Genny, his nephews, and a few friends, weeks before, online, like normal people were supposed to do in the 21st Century.
With the torture over with, Tim went to meet Lucy at the car, instantly lighting up when he saw her already there waiting for him.
"I missed you," he whispered, sliding up to his girlfriend and wrapping his arms around her small frame.
Lucy sighed contently and burrowed deeper into the embrace. "I was only gone for an hour," she said against his chest.
"And that was a second too long," Tim replied seriously, playing with the tips of Lucy's hair.
"You're cute." Lucy giggled and kissed the tip of Tim's nose before wiggling out of his arms, reminding him they had to pick up Kojo for their hike and they were already running late.
T.O. Tim would have been appalled at being called cute by his rookie, but this Tim was happier than he had ever been before, happier than he ever thought possible, so he just smiled loopily at her retreating form before setting his gifts on the trunk and following her inside.
-x-x-x-
Four days later, on Christmas Eve –because Angela and Wesley had promised their mothers they would spend Christmas morning and afternoon with them, respectively– Tim and Lucy exited his house, looking like they were leaving for a week instead of going to a friend's house for a Holiday gathering.
"Why the hell do we have to bring this when we already have four gifts and enough food to feed a small army?" Tim asked as he tried to close the front door while juggling said poinsettia plant, a bottle of wine, a bottle of eggnog and a six-pack of his favorite IPA.
Lucy sighed again and tried to bump his shoulder playfully, hissing when the gesture almost pushed all three dishes she was holding to the floor. "One," she started, awkwardly lifting a finger in the hand that had a death grip on the maple-glazed ham. "The gifts are for the Secret Santa and White Elephant. Two," she paused when she almost dropped said gifts and tried to hide the near mishap from her boyfriend, "it's polite to bring a gift to whoever is hosting the party. And third, the food is for the potluck," she finished, somehow managing to rearrange everything in her arms in such a way that she could maintain her grip while rising on her tiptoes to kiss Tim's cheek.
Tim rolled his eyes, but the way they were shining totally betrayed the gesture, and he obediently followed Lucy to the car. After shoving everything inside carefully, he got in the driver's seat and pulled out of the driveway.
Making the walk up to the Lopez-Evers front door was another exercise in patience for Tim as he somehow found himself with most items shoved into his arms while Lucy poked her earrings into place, rearranged her hair around them, and checked her makeup before taking the carefully plated dishes back from him and clumsily ringing the bell with her elbow.
"Tim, Lucy," Angela shrieked as she opened the door, the pompom on her Santa Hat bouncing on her head making the red monstrosity tip dangerously forward.
"Hi, Ange," Tim mumbled, wincing internally because his best friend had clearly already had a few drinks, and he was way too sober to deal with a tipsy Angela. "Wes," he acknowledged with a nod, handing over the drinks, bags, and tin of Christmas cookies.
"Wow." Wesley whistled in appreciation, taking in the spread Lucy was holding. "You guys shouldn't have bothered. One dish would have been fine."
"It was no bother at all," Lucy said instantly, throwing Tim a warning look that dared him to disagree.
Tim gulped and promptly swallowed his I-told-you-so. He'd rather wake up in his girlfriend's arms on Christmas morning instead of on the couch with Kojo after pissing her off.
"This is for you. Thanks for having us." Lucy handed the poinsettia to Angela and followed her inside. She set the dishes on the kitchen counter and accepted a drink from her friend then walked further into the house, sharing hellos and hugs with everyone.
Tim watched Lucy disappear among their friends, and stayed behind, quietly leaning against the kitchen table as he took the bottle of his favorite beer that Angela offered.
Thanks to the open layout of the house, he could see from his position that everyone was already there. Harper and James were lounging on the couch, Lila and Leah playing a little farther away with Jack and his baby sister. Nolan was talking animatedly with Aaron, while Celina and Bailey laughed at something they were watching on one of their phones, and Grey helped Wesley lit the fire pit in the yard.
The image in front of him was the complete opposite to what he remembered of Christmas growing up –demands and accusations because the turkey was burn, beer bottles crashing against the wall when the opposing team scored a touchdown in the game playing on the TV, fists and shouts flying every which way– and it was enough to steal Tim's breath away.
"Who would have thought we would get to have this," Angela whispered as if reading his mind. She had moved and was now standing at his side, shoulders brushing, and Tim looked at her out of the corner of his eye. The contented smile on her face was surely reflected on his own, and he nodded because ain't that the truth.
Unlike him, Angela might have grown up in a big, loving family, but they had been the same kind of lonely, overachieving, adrenaline junkies when they had met the day she started at Mid-Wilshire. It had taken her less time to get this, but Tim was happy he had finally followed in her footsteps.
"I still can't believe you're dating a lawyer, but I'm glad Wes makes you happy." Tim looked at the aforementioned man, and Wesley was already looking at them, his eyes soft and sparkly as he stared at his wife from across the room.
Angela rolled her eyes and punched his arm affectionately, mumbling under her breath, "And I can't believe you're dating your rookie."
"Touché." Tim took a swig of his beer and turned to look for said girlfriend, but he couldn't find her.
Angela looked at him knowingly and giggled, she outright giggled, the quiet sound too cheerful, too wistful, and un-Angela-like. "She's playing with the kids in the backyard. Jack couldn't stop mentioning Tía Lucy all day and how she was going to show them all a new game." She left momentarily to top off her glass and Tim wondered briefly if he should cut her off for now. "And for whatever is worth, I'm also glad she makes you happy. You deserve it, you both do," she said when she returned, suddenly appearing completely sober if not for the extra note of emotion in her voice.
Tim sighed; he'd been doing that a lot lately, his mind momentarily caught up on everything they had gone through these last few years and nodded. "We all do."
Angela squeezed his shoulder in quiet support and left to check on and entertain the rest of the guests. Tim took another gulp from his bottle and continued to stare quietly at his friends, feeling a sense of peace that had been foreign to him until meeting this group of people.
That peace increased tenfold a moment later when he felt a small body slide up to the spot next to him, and a familiar arm wrapped around his shoulder. "I've been looking for you," Lucy said softly, resting her head on his shoulder.
"I haven't moved from this spot since we arrived," Tim answered matter-of-factly, placing a kiss on Lucy's temple.
Lucy clicked her tongue and when Tim turned to stare at her, her face had a strange tilt to it, her look a mix between frustrated and amused. As if he'd just said the most ridiculous, yet adorable thing in the universe, and she couldn't decide who was the greater idiot. Him for saying it, or her for loving him anyway.
"That's not what you're supposed to do at a holiday party," she said eventually. And case in point, Lucy took the bottle from him, placed it on the table, and grabbed both his hands, pulling him with her towards the living room.
The next hour was spent laughing with friends, listening to music and dancing in Angela's living room, playing games with kids and adults alike, and just enjoying life and being alive. The highlight of the evening had surely been the Secret Santa exchange, with Nolan changing into the new Shacket he had gotten from Tim right away while everyone else gushed and aww'd at the heartfelt gifts.
Tim had gotten five tickets to a Dodgers game from Aaron and his eyes had widened comically as he opened the envelope. "This is too much", he had whispered in Aaron's ear when he hugged him thanks, and Aaron had just shrugged, patted him on the back, and whispered back "No worries, Sarge; just a little something for you and Lucy to have fun with your sister and the boys''. The gift was anything but little, but Tim had just grinned and thanked him again.
Lucy had gotten a boxed book set from Wesley, and Tim could already see her huddled under a blanket on the couch, reading until the early hours of the morning during her days off. The rest of the gifts had ranged from a hardcover of 'The Mixology of Astrology Cocktail Recipe Book' from Angela to Celina, to a digital picture frame from Lucy to Grey, and all in all, it had been a great time.
After everyone had opened their gifts, Wesley had called them to the kitchen as dinner was served. Dinner had gone as well as the rest of the party, and everyone had eaten so much that afterward, they all collapsed on every couch and flat surface around the house with what felt like a post-dinner food coma. Only Lucy and Grey stayed behind, helping Angela and Wesley clean up the kitchen and plate leftovers for everyone to take home, a little extra for Grey and Lucy since Luna and Tamara hadn't been able to come.
Now, they were all gathered back in the living room ready to start the White Elephant gift exchange. All the gifts were pushed together on top of the coffee table, and they all lounged comfortably around the room. Tim sat on the floor, his back against the armchair where Nolan and Bailey were squished together, his bent knees on either side of Lucy as she snuggled against his chest.
As the host, it had been decided that Angela would go first, and now she looked inquisitively at the gifts, a finger on her chin and a pensive look on her face. She finally settled on one and opened it quickly, hoping the size and shape of the box meant it was a puzzle, some sort of game or something else equally harmless. Instead, she revealed a set of fuzzy handcuffs in varied shapes, and she blushed furiously, trying to hide them from sight as everyone crackled.
"Who the hell thought this was a good idea?" She hissed, but the spark on her eye revealed that she was only mad because it hadn't been her idea.
"I don't know why you're complaining; I sort of like th-" Wesley was cut short by Angela's murderous look, and he shut his mouth before he was thrown out of his own house.
Next was Lucy, as determined by the drawing, and she instantly moved away from Angela and her handcuffs, going for a small box wrapped in red paper with a green bow. Seeing the legal decision-making paperweight, with options such as lie, beg and insanity plea all eyes turned to Wesley, and the man in question did a small curtsy to everyone's delight.
Harper also ignored the previously opened gifts and chose a bag with a Snowman in a police hat instead. She hummed approvingly at the expensive bourbon, but the happiness was short-lived because the next person was Bailey, and she decided to steal the gift instead of picking a wrapped one. Harper sighed dejectedly and mouthed to Nolan that 'he would pay for that'. She picked a similarly sized bag and got a wine bottle puzzle. She smiled and laughed when James mumbled that 'she sure knew how to pick her alcohol'. With this one, it would take a little longer to get to the prize but at least it was still booze.
When it was Wesley's turn, he stared pensively at the pack of gifts for a long time. His eyes shifted from the unwrapped presents to the ones still on the table, until he seemed to come to a decision. Choosing to forfeit self-preservation, he stretched from his spot next to Angela and took the handcuffs from her.
Everyone burst out laughing even as Angela's blush reappeared, and she smacked Wes softly across the head. "Ouch," he mumbled, rubbing at the spot before wrapping his arms around his wife when she tried to move away from him.
Wes only let her go momentarily so she could get up to get a new gift. This time her grin was blinding when she ripped the paper open to reveal a journal with 'HR Approved Ways to Tell Coworkers They're Stupid' written on the cover. In a faux-threatening tone, she declared, "If anyone steals this one, you're not invited to the party next year."
Conveniently, Tim's turn was next, and he momentarily considered stealing the journal just to mess with her, but ultimately settled on stealing the bourbon from Bailey. Bailey's next gift was a moon lamp, and she turned to smile sweetly at Celina because who else could have put that there?
When it was Grey's turn and he didn't steal the bottle from Tim, he figured he must have been the one to get it, which made sense given that it was the expensive kind. Instead, he chose a new gift and frowned when he revealed a pink unicorn neon sign.
At a loss, everyone turned to each other trying to figure out who got that one and, more importantly, why. Eventually, James broke and threw his hands up in the air, "I went shopping with Lila, and she insisted I get that one. I told her nobody would want it, and she just smiled and said that way I could make sure to bring it back for her instead."
"Smart girl," Tim said approvingly.
"I know," James replied, without missing a beat, "she takes after her mom."
Harper positively melted in the spot and climbed over James to press a kiss to his lips as the room was divided between a chorus of "awwww's" and murmured "gross" coming from some others.
The moment was broken when Aaron got up to take his turn. He turned to Tim briefly, clearly wanting the bourbon, but in the end, he shook his head and picked a small box that sat alone on the corner of the table. The gift was a St. Michael Medallion, and as the chain dangled in his hand for everyone to see, the room suddenly got really quiet, and it felt like the temperature dropped a few degrees.
During Tim's deployment, he had encountered people from all corners of the world, and a French soldier, who had lost his brother in combat, had shared a phrase with him. It roughly translated to "An angel just passed," signifying a moment of eerie silence that causes a lull in conversation. Tim had never heard the phrase in the States, but it had been common overseas. Now, he couldn't help but think about it, images of Jackson, Captain Andersen, and so many other lost friends flipping through his mind.
Just as quickly, that solemn moment too was broken by Celina's turn. Without hesitation, she snatched the neon sign from Grey, murmuring something about how a girl is never too old to enjoy a cool neon sign in her room. Glad to be rid of the unicorn, Grey got up and selected one of the last unopened gifts—a police station Lego set that elicited laughter from everyone. It was both silly and perfect, and they all knew nobody would have the heart to steal it from him, especially as they caught the Sergeant smiling fondly at the box.
Next up was James, who decided on the spot that he would get his daughter a new unicorn sign because Celina clearly loved this one, and he wasn't about to take it from her. It turned out to be a great choice, and a delighted 'sweet' left his parted lips when he opened a desktop cornhole set that would look great in the Community Center.
The last participant was Nolan, and never one to cause discord among the group, he swiftly grabbed the last unopened gift, revealing a set of handmade succulent cactus candles. He initially frowned at the box, but that expression quickly transformed into a contented smile.
In the final round, most people opted to keep their gifts, only Nolan switched with Lucy. He said it was because the candles would fit perfectly in her apartment (pointedly ignoring everyone's confused stares at the statement), but secretly thinking the legal paperweight was pretty cool.
After the gift exchange, the group settled into a comfortable rhythm of laughter, shared stories, and additional gushing about their gifts, making the room feel alive in a way that it hadn't before.
As the night wore on, Tim found himself drawn to the twinkling lights of Angela's Christmas tree. The ornaments sparkled with memories, some that he had experienced himself since Angela always invited him over, and some from stories he remembered hearing of holidays past, before they had met. Staring at a small wooden star, with a picture of Angela and Wes with the kids in the center of it, Tim couldn't help but feel a twinge of nostalgia for his own childhood, a stark contrast to this night and the newfound warmth surrounding him.
Lucy, feeling the cold of his absence and sensing the change in his mood, joined him by the tree. She slipped her hand into his and squeezed once.
In their secret language of gestures, touches, and shared looks across crowded rooms, they had unconsciously created over the years they had known each other, it meant I'm here if you needed me, and even if you don't, I'm still here. It was a small gesture, but it carried a warmth and certainty that reached his heart.
They had been doing it for years, again and again, since before they were dating, since before they were even aware of the feelings quietly developing between them. They had done it in the suffocating stillness of waiting and briefing rooms, in the nerve-wracking moments before major ops and raids, after countless tragedies when all they knew was the crushing silence of defeat and loss, and every time they faced a problem, big or small. They had never acknowledged it, but it had always been a comfort, even back then, when they wouldn't dare admit it to each other or themselves.
"Hey," Lucy whispered eventually, her breath creating a small cloud in the chilly air. "You doing okay?"
Tim nodded, his gaze moving from the tree and lingering on her face, her eyes reflecting the soft glow of Christmas lights. "Yeah, just thinking about how different things are now."
Lucy rubbed the back of his hand, and this time the gesture meant I know what you mean. Still, she asked, "Different, but good, right?"
He smiled, grateful for this unspoken connection between them. "Yeah, definitely good."
They stayed like that for a while, quiet but for the whispered words coming from their friends in the other room. It was a moment that was as familiar as it was new, filled with joy and the unmistakable feeling of being surrounded by a chosen family.
"Merry Christmas, Tim," Lucy said after a while, when the clock struck midnight, and everyone prepared to leave.
"Merry Christmas, Lucy," Tim replied, pulling her back into a tender kiss.
Moments later, they walked to the car, each one holding a small bag with the gifts they had received. This time around, their hands were empty, but their hearts were full.

Overcoming the Major Challenges in the Automotive Industry: Practical Solutions for Everyday Drivers
Do you think having a car to be more expensive than your expectations? Are surprise breakdowns and costly repairs stressing you out? Struggling to find parking in busy city areas? If any of these questions resonated with you, you're at the right place.
The automotive industry, while crucial to our daily lives, poses several significant challenges for consumers. These problems range from financial burdens to logistical issues, affecting millions of drivers worldwide. In this blog post, we will highlight some of the most pressing problems faced by car owners and offer practical solutions to alleviate these challenges.
1. The Rising Cost of Vehicle Ownership
The overall cost of owning a vehicle, including purchase price, insurance, maintenance, fuel and related expenses can be overwhelming for many consumers.
Solutions:
Choose a Fuel-Efficient or Alternative Fuel Vehicle: Investing in a vehicle that is fuel-efficient or runs on alternative fuels like electric or hybrid models can lead to substantial savings on fuel costs in the long run. These vehicles tend to have lower fuel consumption and can reduce your overall expenditure on gasoline.
Insurance Discounts: Shop around for insurance and look for discounts related to good driving records, bundling with home insurance, or installing anti-theft devices.
Maintenance Tips: Regular maintenance can prevent costly repairs. Learn basic DIY maintenance, such as oil changes and tire rotations, to save money.
2. Maintenance and Repair Hassles
Unexpected breakdowns and regular maintenance can be both time-consuming and costly for vehicle owners. Sudden repairs often come with high costs, disrupting your budget and daily schedule.
Solutions:
Preventive Maintenance: Follow the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule to keep your vehicle in good condition and prevent larger issues.
Extended Warranties: Consider purchasing an extended warranty for added protection against major repair costs.
Reliable Mechanics: Build a relationship with a trustworthy mechanics or dealers for fair pricing and honest advice.
3. Parking and Urban Congestion
Finding parking in busy city areas can be very frustrating, and heavy traffic often wastes time and adds to stress. Many drivers struggle with the challenge of locating a parking spot and dealing with congestion.
Solutions:
Parking Apps: Use apps that help find and reserve parking spots in advance.
Public Transport Alternatives: When possible, use public transportation or carpool to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
Urban Planning Advocacy: Support initiatives and policies that aim to improve urban infrastructure and reduce congestion.
4. Fuel Prices and Environmental Impact
Changing fuel prices can put a strain on your budget, and cars that run on gasoline add to pollution and harm the environment. High fuel costs and environmental damage are common concerns for many drivers.
Solutions:
Fuel-Efficient Driving: Adopt fuel-saving driving habits, such as smooth acceleration, maintaining steady speeds, and reducing idling.
Alternative Fuels: Explore vehicles that use alternative fuels, such as electric or hybrid models, to reduce dependency on gasoline.
Carpooling and Ride-Sharing: These options not only save money but also reduce the environmental impact.
5. Vehicle Depreciation
Cars depreciate rapidly, which can be a significant concern for those looking to sell or trade in their vehicle. This depreciation can impact resale value and make it challenging to get a fair price when upgrading to a new model.
Solutions:
Choose Wisely: Some vehicles hold their value better than others. Research models known for strong resale value before purchasing.
Regular Maintenance and Care: Keep your car in good condition to maximize its resale value. Clean the interior and exterior regularly, and address any minor repairs promptly.
Consider Leasing: Leasing can be a good option if you prefer driving a new car every few years and want to avoid long-term depreciation.
Conclusion
Owning a vehicle comes with its set of challenges, but with the right strategies, these challenges can be managed effectively. By considering cost-saving measures, staying proactive with maintenance, and making informed choices, you can enjoy the benefits of vehicle ownership without the overwhelming burden.

Let's Get Haunted is an all-female, independent podcast produced, written, recorded, and edited completely by two best friends named Nat and Aly. A true "DIY Podcast", Let's Get Haunted started on the floor of Nat's bathroom with the worst sound quality one could ever imagine. From there, the hosts began teaching themselves about all facets of podcasting, from SEO and algorithms to audio engineering and software programs. Despite both working fulltime "day jobs", Nat & Aly have earned a reputation for putting out unique and interesting content at any cost, even when they had no fixed recording location and had to lug mics and cords between the homes of Nat's Tinder dates to record episodes.
What began as a hobby with less than 5,000 streams per month in 2019, has since grown into a loving community of misfits, hellbent on tackling the dark side of the world together, over 4 million streams strong worldwide.
While the subject matter of Let's Get Haunted focuses around the paranormal, the "Haunties" - as its community is called - channels its energy into creating positivity out of "haunted" (aka negative) situations.

Day 5 - The Smell of the Ocean
Steps walked: 16,283
Flights climbed: 13
Vehicles ridden: 3 (two by land, one by water)
Points of interest visited: 3
Leonardos spotted: only bastardizations in tourist swag
We took our time having breakfast and checking out of the hotel, opting for comfort and taking a taxi to the train station rather than the metro. We got to marvel at the skill and audacity of Italian drivers as he cut through solid walls of traffic to get us to the station with plenty of time to spare. We strolled directly onto the train for the nearly three hour ride to Venezia. ‘Twas a relatively uneventful train ride, mostly pleasant, aside from the little boy who sat next to me for 30% of the ride who watched stuff on his phone with the volume on.
We arrived in Venezia, a sinking city, hungry. We tried two cafes at the train station who reportedly sometimes had vegan croissants but no such luck. Dan was noticeably worried because as my hunger grows, my moods become more mercurial. I insisted I’d be ok and that we could head to our hotel and maybe we’ll find something on the way. I was determined not to be the problem, as I usually am.
It was a half hour walk through Venezia to our hotel and along the way we passed a Chinese restaurant listed on Happy Cow (our vegan restaurant finder app, a necessity for every traveling vegan). I was not about to resist another break from Italian food so we had a very satisfying lunch there and I have no regrets about our first stop in Venezia being to a Chinese restaurant.
The rest of our walk to the hotel was uneventful, providing us a nice walking tour of the city, encumbered only by our luggage.
Some observations/thoughts about Venezia:
* For all intents and purposes, there are no roads. No cars. No vehicles. We walked exclusively through alleys, for lack of a better word. Ranging from wide to impossibly narrow, weaving with no apparent rhyme or reason thru the multi-story ancient buildings housing apartments, hotels, restaurants, and shops. Modern kitsch sold from crumbling brick store fronts and tourist traps next to local markets.
* How could anyone live here? It’s just fine to visit. Kind of surreal to experience. But people live their lives in this city where Amazon deliveries are brought by rolly cart and courier and emergency services take a boat to the nearest canal. Their day-to-day is spent navigating through a sea of tourists who seemingly outnumber them.
* It feels less like a real place where people live as it does a run down amusement park where there’s only one ride: a 30 minute gondola ride that costs €80. It’s all in need of a good scrubbing to get rid of that algae/fish/sea salt smell.
* You pay for water at restaurants here. They don’t do tap water.
Our hotel was directly next to a canal and gondola “start point”, of which there are many. The gentleman who ran the hotel greeted us at the door and was outrageously friendly and nice and Italian. “Buongiorno! Ciao! Welcome! You have-a my favorite room-a!”
‘Twas indeed a very nice room with windows that overlooked a canal. We unloaded our bags and went for a walk to the Piazza San Marco and the Doge’s Palace and meandered around, taking in the sights and sounds. Without having much interest in actually paying for admission to any of the museums or historic landmarks, there wasn’t a whole lot for us to do.
And here we are sighing at the bridge of sighs.
We eventually found ourselves in a gondola not far from our hotel (but not the one right next to the hotel entrance). I’d noticed that all the gondoliers were male and I did a bit of googling to confirm that in Venezia’s history, only one “female” gondolier has ever existed, and even then not really. Alex Hai became the “first female gondolier” a few years before he came out as trans. As far as I can tell, he still works as an occasional gondolier but by appointment only. He also works as a filmmaker. So we couldn’t support any women or trans-men, and were left with a traditional gondolier. He was still great and pointed out a few things on our half hour tour. My initial thought that 30 minutes was too short a ride was replaced after about 20 minutes when I decided “yeah, 30 minutes is plenty.”
Many of the gondoliers chat with each other as they pass, their long oars on the right of the boat while they use their left leg to kick off the building walls on either end of the narrow canals. It seems like an exhausting job. I don’t know how they do it. But it’s fun to watch.
We had some time to kill before our reservations. (Too late we discovered there’s exactly one vegan restaurant in all of Venezia and it was far and required reservations which we had not made. An email revealed to us that they were fully booked for the night. Our next best option was a very expensive restaurant that had a vegan menu.) We wandered aimlessly through our little corner of the city while I marveled at some of my aforementioned observations and went to our reservations a half hour early. They seated us immediately on their patio* and we immediately became aware that we were much too poor for this restaurant. We ordered two dishes each, aware that one dish would not be enough food despite the cost. Anyway it was all good. Not as good as the best meal I’ve had, and not good enough to justify the cost. But quite tasty. We had a nice leisurely dinner, hampered only by the French woman sitting next to us who lit up a cigarette right after we had our appetizers. Europeans, amiright?
I’ve also been starting to respond to every dog sighting with an ever increasing yearning for our babies back home. The best part of a vacation is knowing you’ll be ready to finish it at the end. We’re about halfway there, and that feels right.
Our hotel had given us a complimentary bottle of wine which was a sweet, mild Chardonnay which we happily enjoyed before bed, falling asleep to the sounds of splashing water and boats passing by in the canal below our window.

San Jose has long been known as the home of vast parking lots and suburban sprawl, but a coalition of transit advocates and tech companies have introduced tools they say will turn the city into a testing ground for the future of housing and parking policies in California.
The tools include an Airbnb-like platform for parking garage management and a heat map of San Jose’s parking demand that advocates want to use as a guide for managing metered parking in the city and identifying areas where street parking can be replaced with things like parklets and bicycle lanes.
At the heart of the tech rollout is a push to limit the construction of new large-scale parking lots and expand parking restrictions on city streets in San Jose — a city that is one of the most “overparked” municipalities in the state, according to transportation advocates — and pave the way for more homes, retail and restaurant spaces.
And city officials are on board. In December, San Jose became the country’s largest municipality to abolish decades-old parking minimums that fueled expansive concrete lots and commuter sprawl. Other cities, including San Francisco, Los Angeles and Berkeley, have eliminated all or most parking minimums for new developments. The state also banned parking requirements near public transit stops last year.
In San Jose, housing and transit advocates worry that despite the city’s policy change, developers will continue building car-friendly structures, limiting the density of San Jose’s building boom and the impact of a new BART line in the next decade. In the city’s downtown, developers have historically provided at least one parking space per apartment unit.
“Many developers are probably just going to stick there,” said Stuart Cohen, the founder of TransForm, the organization leading the tech rollout. “Because it’s just what people have done traditionally. So we’re really trying to create a new model of development, where often you won’t even have to have one space per unit.”
The $1.6 million project, backed in large part by a Knight Foundation grant, will see TransForm push developers to scale down their parking garages by using Parkade, a private application that allows both tenants and landlords to manage limited parking spots by renting out unused spaces.
Evan Goldin, the Parkade CEO, said the company helps buildings make better use of limited parking by eliminating unneeded long-term parking spots and turning others into short-term rentals that cater to guests. In one case, a Los Angeles apartment eliminated some parking and used the space for a restaurant, he said.
“There were literally people that lived in the building that were renting long-term parking just so their girlfriend could come over twice a week,” said Goldin. “That’s pretty silly.”
Another company, Parknav, will provide a real-time parking heat map and phone app of San Jose’s downtown area that shows expected parking availability based on studies of cell phone data and other metrics.
Cohen said the map can be used by city planners to see where parking demand is high to expand metering locations, along with providing a roadmap for adjusting rates that fluctuate with demand. One example would be hiking parking meter rates at peak periods, like lunchtime near a business district.
“You can much better come up with regulations for parking,” he said. Right now he said city parking management is “all visceral and best guess.”
Parking has been an important driver of housing costs because it reduces the number of dwellings that can be built and hikes the per-unit cost of development. A 2020 SPUR report estimated that parking garage spots cost about $50,000 per space to build, and even more if the garage is underground.
The impact of San Jose’s elimination of parking minimums is still unknown. Michael Manville, an urban planning professor at UCLA, said the city shouldn’t expect parking garage construction to end anytime soon. The likely impact is a “little bit less” parking with some more housing that “adds up over time.”
Even if a developer wants to build less parking, the other challenge, said Manville, is convincing lenders to finance a project that veers away from vehicle ownership in a city where the car has historically been king.
“The key is, do you have a market in mind of people who are willing to walk a block or two to get their car?” said Manville.
While a short drive through San Jose will reveal large parking lots sitting half empty, some parts of the city, including neighborhoods in East San Jose, are already facing a severe parking crunch. Some community representatives say the city needs to take a cautious approach to discouraging parking when public transit is not a viable option for their residents’ day-to-day lives.
“When developments are not including parking spaces it’s not going to deter these residents from not having cars,” said Councilmember Peter Ortiz, who represents East San Jose’s District 5. “They’re just going to park in the surrounding neighborhoods, which are already being impacted.”

Britain - 2032
You pull out of your £22 per hour parking space and the ANPR camera clocks you onto road, immediately charging you £15 for the day and £2 per mile after that. Arriva own the roads now, and the fares seem to go up every month. You haven't been able to switch over to electric yet, due to the battery shortage, so you head to the fuel station to fill up.
The unleaded pump is 949.9p a litre now. Part of that is the recent Super Duty the government added at the last budget, but the biggest hike was when Russia invaded Hungary.
You're rationed to 20 litres, so your bill is just shy of £190. You round it off to £200 with a coke and a packet of gum. Getting back on the road you notice a Serco road block and end up stuck in the queue. Since you're inside the M25 you're in the Super Mega Ultra Low Emissions Zone (SMULZ) and subject to a per minute charge for sitting in traffic, engine running or not. The ANPR cameras enforce it automatically, so you check your Arriva app to see how much it's costing you so far. You're still under £20 when you get to the front of the queue, which is a nice relief.
The barrier let's a car go, then the gasmasked Serco officer lowers it back down and approaches you with his taser at the ready. Another officer checks your tyre tread and pressure, then moves onto your exhaust emissions, counts the chips on your windscreen, inspects your dents and rust. They're looking for reasons to fine you. It's all they do since they took over the policing contract from the disbanded Met. Eventually you're passed a bill for their on the spot safety check. You passed, so it's only the £50 service fee.
You're ushered on and eventually you're sat in a traffic jam on the M25. All 16 lanes are open, but there's been another autolorry crash and it's taking a long time to put out the battery fires. Eventually you make it to your appointment at your local doctors surgery, a mere 56 miles from home. Once you pass security you're asked for your Bupa number. The reception computer informs you that your premium is suspended because you visited Gregg's 3 times in January. There is no NHS treatment available for you since you're over 18 and under 85, so if you want to proceed with the appointment it will be £855. You pay it up front, then make your way to the doctor's office.
When you're done you head over to the pharmacy for your prescription, it's gone up to £1,330. You pay, then head back to the car to administer your insulin shot. You step over a dead body in the doorway, the security bot tells you not to be concerned, that someone will remove the body at some point today.
As you get to your car a man comes running up to you asking if that's insulin in the bag. He begs, pleads, tells you his daughter needs it and they can't afford it. You pull your gun and tell him to back off. He's just a distraction though, you feel the knife plunge into your neck, the next thing you know you're leaning on your bonnet, blood oozing out of the wound. They run off with your prescription.
You sit in the car, pushing an old sweater into the wound, feeling faint and wondering how long you have before you pass out. It's a 55 minute drive to A&E and your credit card is maxed out.
As your blood pressure drops and your vision starts to blur you remember when things were cheaper and people weren't so desperate. Your watch pings, reminding you that you've overstayed your parking time and the fine is £1,000.
With your final breath, you think to yourself 'can you imagine how bad it would be if Corbyn were in charge'.
