Let's Get Haunted is an all-female, independent podcast produced, written, recorded, and edited completely by two best friends named Nat and Aly. A true "DIY Podcast", Let's Get Haunted started on the floor of Nat's bathroom with the worst sound quality one could ever imagine. From there, the hosts began teaching themselves about all facets of podcasting, from SEO and algorithms to audio engineering and software programs. Despite both working fulltime "day jobs", Nat & Aly have earned a reputation for putting out unique and interesting content at any cost, even when they had no fixed recording location and had to lug mics and cords between the homes of Nat's Tinder dates to record episodes.

Before diving into the juicy topic at hand, co-hosts Aly and Nat kick off each episode with banter about their personal lives and things that matter to them that week, a segment coined "Personal Hauntings". Despite any misfortunes or frustrations the week has brought about, LGH seeks to find the humor in any situation. From the time Aly was attacked in a parking lot by a guy wielding a sword to the time Nat went to jail, Let's Get Haunted doesn't shy away from sharing the more outrageous moments in their personal lives.

After going through their "Personal Hauntings", the hosts then dive into the episode topic of the day, or the "Haunting Du Jour". From stories of the Cold War to cultural folklore to cryptids, you're guaranteed to never be bored and always learn something new!

Above all, LGH seeks to remind the world that, though we're all a little bit haunted on the inside (we all have our trials and demons to overcome), that doesn't mean that we can't pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and soldier on.

Dr. Eithan Haim, a former medical resident at Texas Children's Hospital, was indicted in May for allegedly illegally accessing trans patients’ records, which he subsequently shared with Manhattan Institute senior fellow Chris Rufo.  Right-wing media figures have since defended Haim and brought him in for interviews, often equating the care allegedly provided at Texas Children's Hospital — such as the prescription of "puberty blockers" — with harm or mutilation and alleging that Haim is the target of political persecution.  The campaign has successfully raised both Haim's profile and at least $888,865, which he claims will be used for both his legal defense and “offensive legal action against those who have abused their professional responsibility in service of radical transgender ideology.” 

Haim allegedly illegally accessed trans patients’ records

On February 18, 2022, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued an opinion that qualified youth gender-affirming care as "child abuse", prompting Texas Children's Hospital to announce that it would stop proving such care. Although the opinion was not legally binding, the hospital released a statement announcing that it would stop prescribing gender-affirming hormone therapies. The statement, which also alluded to recent measures that Gov. Greg Abbott had taken against families of children receiving gender-affirming care, added that “this step was taken to safeguard our healthcare professionals and impacted families from potential legal ramifications.” [Office of the Attorney General of Texas, 2/18/22; American Civil Liberties Union, 2/23/22; The Washington Post, 3/8/22]

In late spring 2023, Dr. Eithan Haim allegedly accessed the records of trans patients at Texas Children's Hospital and shared them with Manhattan Institute senior fellow Chris Rufo. Haim, a resident at Baylor College of Medicine who had previously conducted rotations at Texas Children's Hospital, shared redacted files with Rufo that allegedly demonstrated that the hospital was continuing to provide gender-affirming services to minors. On June 2, 2023, a Texas bill restricting gender-affirming care for children was signed into law. S.B. 14 prohibited “the provision to certain children of procedures and treatments for gender transitioning, gender reassignment, or gender dysphoria” as well as “the use of public money or public assistance to provide those procedures and treatments.” The law went into effect on September 1 of that year. reading: the best part of the game awards this year was the fashion, alyssa mercante: i looooved some of these looks. love the art corset on slide 4, jay-ann lopez on slide 15, the pleated dress on slide 17, the MATCHING BABY ON SLIDE 19, and the author's whole everything on slide 20.

sff's big fat problem, r. k. duncan: i was already aware of some of the stuff talked about here but i am definitely guilty of having less overt things - i.e. goblin emperor reference in there - totally fly by me. i feel like i saw a lot of people talking about rowling's fatphobia after she went mask-off but she is definitely on the more malicious end of the spectrum, it's a much much much more baked in problem than people give it credit for. thinking also about the locked tomb, which i love, but also makes some very weird comments about ortus that i did not clock at all until someone else pointed it out. just something i'm thinking about lately.

aaaand a short film that a grad student in my department made as a project. it's. not good. like i'm happy that he's doing hobbies or whatever but this short film commits the cardinal sin of being neither good nor bad, Just Boring. 2/10.

making: the [redacted project] is almost done!! i have 10 rows left. each row takes me about 15 minutes. i will definitely finish it by the end of the week, fringe and all. no pictures yet for obvious reasons but it will be in the first tuesdaypost of the year for 2024! the biggest challenge now is the point of contact on my left hand where i rest the knitting needle against my middle finger is aggravating on a sensory standpoint from overuse, so i have been knitting with one glove on that hand which has helped a lot.

there was a preview of these last week, but i added finishing touches to my gavle goat holiday cards! i used a metallic sharpie to add some horn embellishments and wrote a little note on the back, and mailed out a bunch :)

BIO

Alex is a man who carries himself with pride, which is something that can frequently be misinterpreted as arrogance by some who don't know him on a personal level. His appearance matches his attitude, as he always ensures to dress very well; Levi admires his fashion sense once he is able to allow himself to trust the newcomer. When he speaks to you, you can immediately recognise that he was born in wealth no matter how hard he tries to hide this fact - he doesn't like to be seen as a privileged rich kid. Naturally with how he was raised and schooled, he has a very rigid posture that is seen more when he is around his father, but when around Hange and the other Ambassadors and members of the Alliance, he relaxes considerably. Despite this and the fact that he gestures with his hands when conversing, Alex avoids all eye contact whenever possible like it is the plague - it makes him incredibly uncomfortable.

Optimistic and a proud ambivert, Alex is both street smart and book smart, so to speak. He knows how to handle himself on the streets. His biggest achievement to-date is the fact that when he graduated from the Cadet Corps, he did so in the top ten. His favourite sound if that of the waves cresting on the beach, and his favourite smells are those of freshly baked bread and old books.
