Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, It's the Early Bird Character Introduction of Pinya, A Palawan Binturong Philippine Flag.
Why did the Anti Piracy Screen Say? "Piracy is a Software Theft Would You? You're using a Pirated Copy of Pinya's Big Adventure. according to the Law, Software Theft is a Piracy which can result in Jail Time. Please buy a Genuine Copy of Pinya's Big Adventure. TURN OFF YOUR VIDEO GAME CONSOLE NOW OR I'LL CALL THE GUARDS!"
We see a Image of Pinya the Philippine Palawan Binturong Crying and she is saying "We wanted to Get Out for a Real Copy!" inside the Jail Cell.

Say hi to Binturong for World Binturong Day!
Also known as the Palawan Bearcat, it is neither a bear, or a cat! They are more closely related to civets, and can be found in Southeast Asia. In the Philippines they can only be found in Palawan (though one was found in Sulu) (G Veron 2019). They spend most of their lives in the trees (aka they are arboreal), and eat small insects and fruits.
In a study by Myka Allam et al in 2022, Binturong in a certain area in Palawan seemed to love figs. Since Binturongs are also known to speed up germination of fig seeds after pooping them, Palawan Binturong might also be important to fig or ficus seed dispersal!
Follow the groups below to learn more about them!

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐥: 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐚𝐭!
The 𝙋𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙣 𝘽𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙖𝙩 is a unique subspecies of the binturong found exclusively on the Palawan Island in the Philippines. One of the notable features of the Palawan Bearcat is its ability to emit a pungent odor, similar to that of popcorn or corn chips. This distinct scent is believed to play a role in communication and marking territories. Its distinctive appearance, prehensile tail, and pungent odor make it a fascinating creature of the Southeast Asian rainforests.

Palawan binturong
What the heck is a binturong? A few of us weren’t up to speed on this bearcat, which can steady itself with its powerful tail in rainforest canopies in South and Southeast Asia. Like many animals, it has been losing its natural habitat and is classified as vulnerable. The frumpy-looking animal, active at night, can hiss, wail, growl, or purr in encounters with humans.

I’m super jealous of #DrEvanAntin As a Filipino-American who grew up in Southern California, I’ve actually never been to #Palawan Looking forward to Sunday’s episode because it takes our favorite #veterinarian to the #Philippines 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 Mabuhay! I can’t watch and live tweet, but I do record the show and watch it as soon as I’m able to. I enjoyed the first episode, especially the water-living horse and the cutie pie kittens rescued, and I hope Animal Planet gives Dr. Antin a season 2 😉 #Repost @animalplanet ・・・ Binturongs are prehensile-tailed bundles of CUTENESS! What is this?  From National Geographic:

let me introduce, the palawan binturong!
Tumblr media
The Palawan bearcat (Arctictis binturong whitei), also commonly known as the Palawan binturong, is the subspecies of the Binturong. It is endemic to the island Palawan in the Philippines.
Tumblr media
They belong to the Viverridae, which is a family of small to medium-sized, feliform mammals. The viverrids comprise 33 species placed in 14 genera. This family was named and first described by John Edward Gray in 1821.
The Palawan binturong can grow to as much as 1.4 metres (4.6 ft). Distinguishing characteristics are the ears that are lined with white fur, and long, white whiskers that can be as long as the length of its head.
Binturongs (the original ones) have long and heavy, with short, stout legs. It has a thick coat of coarse black hair. The bushy and prehensile tail is thick at the root, gradually tapering, and curls inwards at the tip.
here are some videos that explain further these furry creatures:

"Curious, Amazed, Living in the Moment" (2021), watercolor 9x12 inches
This is the latest addition to my Idyllic Scenes Collection of paintings. It'll be on sale at my booth at Pusong Filipinx ("Heart of Filipinx"): The Market on August 8, 2021.
In this piece, animals that are found in and endemic to the Philippines are playing and marveling at a popular outdoor game called "Chinese Garter".
Most of them are endangered due to loss of habitat and poaching.
Tumblr media
I love animals. I believe that art is a great way to give the spotlight on critically endangered species that may not be widely well-known.
So I'll introduce them through my posts (plus a portion of sales will be donated to conservation efforts).
Starting right meow!
Edit (2021/08/12): Binturong (bearcat) photos courtesy of ABConservation.org. Thank you so much!

The Tamaraw /'TA-marau/ (I know how to pronounce it, but not how to write the pronunciation. lmk). It's found in the island of Mindoro, in the Visayas region. The smaller cousin of the carabao (also called Mindoro Dwarf Buffalo, lol), but lives mostly in the wild.
Their numbers are dwindling due to logging, illegal hunting, and diseases from livestock that were introduced from resettlers.
Organizations such as the Tamaraw Conservation Program has Support-A-Ranger to help the brave people who wholeheartedly offer their service to protect the tamaraws.
Tumblr media
The Bearcat ('Binturong') - It's much smaller than it looks (more like the size of a wolverine). I've also read that it smells like popcorn (!) and hisses like a cat.
They thrive in canopies of primary/undisturbed forests, where they eat fruits, insects, eggs, and shoots.
Tumblr media
The sad thing is that bearcats are hunted for the illegal pet trade, sold as delicacies and some weirdass medicine in other countries.
The people of Palawan (where the bearcats are found) have designated 100,000 acres of pristine forest called the Cleopatra's Needle Critical Habitat.
Tumblr media
With the help of the communities of the Batak tribe (a hunter-gatherer community that relies on the forest for their livelihood) and conservation groups such as ABConservation.org, they are helping protect the bearcats.
Tumblr media
Visayan Warty Pig. Found in multiple islands in the Visayas region, and are smaller than domestic pigs. They're given this name due to the visible warts in their skin. (Not quite visible here). It's said that it helps protect them from the tusks of rival pigs.
They are considered extinct in 95% of their natural habitat. The clearing of forests to be used for agriculture is one factor. Also, they're omnivores and have the propensity to feed on crops, so they're hunted by farmers as pests.
More animals will be introduced in the next post! Sources:
