Haven't finished Spirit of Justice yet; still have to play the bonus case, so I'm saving my final thoughts until then.

But I am...weirdly bothered by how quickly Rafya gets over the loss of the only parents she's ever known. They were objectively bad people; the queen especially proved to be verbally/emotionally abusive during that trial. And Rayfa's got a big brother and a replacement bio-mom right there!

But her "dad," by all evidence, was kind to her. He loved her. He kept all her birthday cards in a safe, which I don't think he needed to do if he was pretending to love her. And she loved him. Yes, he probably helped perpetuate the lie that she was his and Garan's kid. I'm not saying that excuses him and makes him father of the year or something.

Rayfa barely knew Dhurke. She's had the knowledge that the people that raised her weren't her parents for all of, like, two days. She's fourteen.

I'm not saying she has to be sitting around mourning them and refusing to move on. I just would have liked to see her being a little bit conflicted still about the murder of the man she believed was her dad for her entire life at the hands of the woman she thought was her mother her entire life, and maybe even a little upset that Nahyuta knew this entire time and said nothing (even if he had an excuse), as did her actual mother, who presumably knew her daughter was being abused and, again, did nothing. Especially when she was still distraught over his death the day after learning he wasn't her biological father. But the trial's over and she's just completely fine with and calling Dhurke her dad and Amara her mom like nothing happened.

I know it's a complicated situation. But again, she's fourteen, and hasn't proved herself to be necessarily the most logical person ever. I am not expressing myself well. It bothers me! I can't put words to it. It just does! UGH!
