This is a story from a TRON/Pacific Rim crossover rp with my friend QueenofCrows

St Fuck’s day was unique to say the least.

It was the biggest party on a non-existent budget where alcohol and bad food was passed alongside stories that made the listeners groan or laugh even after many retellings.  

To outsiders it looked like nothing more.

They didn’t see the old friends brought back through tales and memory, kept alive by those not ready to join them yet.

But as the party reached its end it would be revealed, starting with a last refill for all, with one voice singing out.

The rest joined in short order any lack of skill buried under emotion and numbers alike. As the song continued the Rangers gathered together each pouring a draft of the last bottle into their own glasses, it was always the best blackmarket moonshine in the largest bottle possible.

When in attendance Shaddox, one of the dome’s architects, would provide vocal percussion as the more personal verses began.

“Of all the comrades that e'er I had, They're sorry for my going away,” Tron sang out, his back straight with militant pride even as his husband and wife each wrapped an arm around his waist.

“And all the sweethearts that e'er I had, They'd wish me one more day to stay,”Only Ram could deliver such a verse with such a perfect mix of cheek and solemnity as he beamed at the family surrounding him.

“But since it falls into my lot, That I should rise and you should not ” Clu’s voice was always strained if not cracked buckling under the weight of his brother’s memory, of scars both physical and mental.

“I'll gently rise and softly call, Good night and joy be to you all,” Kevin supported his partner resting his head on the taller man’s shoulder.

Everyone joined together in the end

Fill to me the parting glass And drink a health whate'er befalls Then gently rise and softly call "Goodnight and joy be to you all"

The rest of the bottle would go into the waves, a memorial dram for those who had departed and would not return, who were never forgotten but would be celebrated again in another year.

So yeah St,Fuck’s is the Ranger made Memorial Day. It is named in Honor of St. Fuck, the patron saint of the Fuckening

St. Fuck itself is a giant (like 4+ft tall) dick made of wrecked Jaeger parts kept in the Shatterdome.

The celebration St. Fucks is unofficial in that it’s not supported by the goverment but is an event no Ranger (or any other Dome worker) will miss since it’s celebrating their comrades their way.

The Parting Glass is scottish in origin and was THE departure song prior to the creation of Auld Lang Syne. (frankly I think it is a better song). There are many covers of the song (it was even the ending song of AC:Black Flag) but for this fic I listened mostly to

as to the personal verses Tron- Was military before joing the PPDC and Jaeger program Ram- Had a reputation as a shameless and varied flirt, he never cheated but casual relationships were very common when you could die any hour let alone day Clu- takes the place of Raleigh Becket, he and his brother Luc (Clu 1.0) were connected in their Jaeger Solar Striker when Luc was killed by a Kaiju Kevin- Was actually pulled out of civilian life after having started the Jaeger program and ended up Clu’s (at first reluctant) partner.

Pacific Rim: The Jaeger Awakens Part 2

The two sat in the empty room. Finn slouched with his back against the wall, looking down at his hands.

“What were you doing anyway?” Finn blurted. Rey looked at him confused.

“Back at the shack. Why were you there?” Rey’s heart began to pound. She fixed her posture.

“I uh..I was-just saying hi.”

“Why? You don’t even know me?”

“I know you like cheese puffs.” Finns eyes widened and he stood up.

“That was you?” Rey nodded with a worried look. She could tell by the tone of his voice he wasn’t happy. Finn sat on the other side of the room with his head down.

“Are you mad at me?”

“Kind of.” He said in frustration.

“Why?” Rey sat up.

“Are you kidding me? Do you know how sick I got because I could never find food and when I did it was already taken by you!”

“I left you some food!”

“A bag of chips was nothing compared to the amount of food I was after that you had already taken!” They were now standing face to face. Rey’s feelings were hurt. She succeeded to fight back the tears. “I could’ve died..” Finn softly said. Poe opened the door interrupting before Rey could say anything.

“Finn is it?” He said pointing at Finn. He nodded.

“The General would like to speak with you.” Finn looked at Rey as he exited the room, leaving her alone. She wiped the tear off her face and pouted.

Finn sat down in the chair in front of the desk in which the General was sitting.

“Ah Finn. What a pleasure to meet you, I’m General Leia.” She extended her hand for a shake. Finn looked at it suspiciously. Then shook her hand. “Your a very smart kid. Poe told me about the jaeger you built.” Finn looked at her, still suspicious but curious to where this was going. “We want you to join us.”

“I’m not in trouble?”

“No no no, of course not. Finn, you are a special boy. We need people like you to help end this war.”

“I thought it was over. The breech. Isn’t it closed?”

“Not for long. A group called the First Order is trying to open it.”

“So we gotta stop them.”

“Exactly. That’s where you come along. We need warriors, and there aren’t many people out there up for the job. So..are you in-“

“I’m in.” He interrupted. Leia smiled. Finn was taken to a room where there were other young soldiers. Rey was there as well. She looked at him with sadness in her eyes. He looked around there was another girl, who looked at him with a smile.

“Alright everyone, today we’re going to find out who is drift compatible with who.” Poe anounced.

“How?” The girl asked.

“You’ll see.” Poe smirked. They were all taken to a room with a giant mat. “Grab a partner, a stick and let’s get started.” Rey looked at Finn, she wanted him to be her partner. But she knew he wasn’t okay with it. It didn’t hurt to try though, she walked up to him but before she could say anything another girl walked up to him.

“Hi! I’m Rose.” She said with the biggest smile.

“Hey.” They shook hands. Rey noticed what was happening and walked away.

“So, do you need a partner?”

“Uhm..” Finn looked over at Rey who looked like she was partnered with another girl.

“I guess I do.” He shrugged, Rose laughed causing Rey to look over. It was now time for initiation. After a few people went Rey and her partner was next. Finn was impressed with Rey’s combat skills, her partner didn’t even get a point. Finn and Rose were the final two to go. Rose smiled at him. “Let’s see what you got.” The first two rounds Finn was winning he started strong. Rose quickly learned his technique and ended up beating him. Finn was in disbelief, he’s never lost a fight. He knew he could’ve done better and because of that, he stormed out. As the crowd cheered Rose on Rey followed Finn on the stairs where he sat alone.

“Hey.” He turned around to look at her.

“What do you want?” He scoffed.

“Why do you always assume I want something?”

“Why else would you talk to me. I don’t matter to anyone and the only time I do is when someone needs something.”

“Maybe I just want to be your friend, you ever think of that.” She yelled, as she began to pace back and forth. Rose watched from the distance. “Open the doors because someone is knocking..and that someone thinks you matter. Control. Your. Emotions..Finn” Rey marched away, leaving Finn alone to think about what she said. Rose ran to the Generals office.

“General do you have a minute?”

“What is it Rose?”

“It’s Finn..I think he’s more compatible with someone else.”

“Like who?”

“Rey.”

“What brings you to this conclusion?”

“Well, I just saw them arguing in the hall-“

“Arguing?”

“Well..yeah.”

“That’s not a sign of compatibility.”

“But you should’ve seen the connection between them. It’s mesmerizing!” Rose shouted with excitement.

“How strong?”

“Powerfully strong.”

The next day the all the young soldiers were taken to a room to practice being in a jaeger on the battlefield. Finn and Rose were up first. Poe strapped them in. “Rule number one. Do NOT let your emotions take over. The energy in your brains powers between the both of you. Which means you feel, what she feels. She feels, what you feel.” They looked at each other. “Be brave.” They put the helmets on and began to fight. It was as if they were in a REAL jaeger. The memories of Finns past were coming back, they almost got to him causing them to fall to their knees. “Stay focused Finn.” Rose said. “Sorry.” Everybody watched them. They weren’t as compatible. Poe shook his head in disappointment. After everyone went Leia walked in and whispered something into Poe’s ear. “Alright everyone, that’s enough for today. Head back to your room.” Everyone began to head out. “Except you three.” They all looked at each other as Poe sat down.

“Y’know you guys, really did horrible. I mean seriously c’mon you gotta admit that wasn’t your best.” He laughed.

“Give us a break. It was our first time!” Finn yelled.

“Your right. Your right. But I don’t think that’s the reason. Mr. Finn here is an expert when it comes to Jaegers so this..this is a shocker.” They all looked at Finn. “Finn I’m gonna have you team up with Rey.”

“What!?” They both shouted.

“You two are drift compatible, I can see it.”

“What about Rose?” Finn asked.

“I never really wanted to pilot a jaeger. I’m more into the tech.” She admitted.

“And Rey’s partner got kicked out. She tried to poison one of the soldiers.”

“So it’s just you guys!” Rose smiled. They looked at each other annoyed.

“Well..let’s see what you guys got!” They put the helmets on and got transported. Finn saw Rey’s memories, and she saw his. But Rey got stuck in one memory. She was hiding under the bed tears in her eyes as she listened to screams of her family and the roads of the kaiju. Finn watched the little girl weep. “Rey..” he whispered, someone pulled her from under the bed and carried her away, someplace safe.

“Where’s mum and daddy?”

“They’re gone.” Rey cried aloud causing the beast to head towards them.

“Run. Run and don’t look back!” The man said to her and she did run, except she looked back. She looked to see the man get eaten alive right before her very eyes.

“Nooo!” She screamed, grabbing the kaiju’s attention. It started towards her and she ran as fast as she could crying for help. Eventually she tripped and watched as the kaiju began to open its mouth before getting shot down by a jaeger. Startled, she ran and this time. She didn’t look back. Poe and Rose took off their helmets. As they both gasped for air.

“It was horrible!” Rey cried.

“I know..I felt it too.”

“I don’t ever want to do it again.” The ground shook and they looked up.

“You might have to.” Poe explained. “For real this time.”

Just so we're clear this is what you're walking into. When I tell you I literally had this entire thing outlined to write I'm nOT EVEN JOKING so incoming wall of text. (And this is me holding back, please know. Talking about this has me ITCHING to write it...)

LET'S GO

Maverick as the outstanding pilot who, back then, could not drift with anyone. He could hit every simulation but couldn't hold a single partner, was about to be dismissed. Goose was his saving grace, man could drift with a ROCK if he wanted. They got along like a house on fire.

Goose dies when they're facing the lvl 6, they're still connected, Maverick manages to finish the fight enough that the Kaiju goes back but doesn't die. His jaeger suit burns into his left side, where Goose used to be.

Unlike GooseMav, IceSlider are the ice-cold-no-mistakes duo and they can't stand the other pair's chaotic strategies and way of fighting. They kept each other on their toes.

IceMav drifted together twice before 2022. Once before Goose's death, testing a new Jaeger and:

Once right after Goose's death, to finish off the lvl 6 Kaiju. Until 2022, they're the only pair of pilots to reach 101% sync.

Mav however disappears right after the fight, never to be seen again, remains as a Jaeger pilot legend. 17 kills under his belt.

CUE 2022 NEXT GEN

Maverick "disappears" as in, he grabs Rooster and Carole and moves to the Midwest, well away from any coastal cities and they live a lowkey life as much as possible. Of course, he adopts Bradley properly when Carole passes.

There were no pulled papers because Maverick wasn't at the PPDC Academy but there WAS an ugly fight between him and Rooster when Rooster enlisted, things were strained between them for a long time but eventually they fixed it.

Hangman? The Rinko Kikuchi/Chuck Hansen mix. Ice's adopted kid who got rescued when a Kaiju leveled Houston. It was IceSlider's fight to win and Ice took the kid in, no family left alive. But 10 years later Ice got sick from all the, you know, radiation exposure of those old Jaegers and also the stress of being a high efficiency pilot and couldn't continue, so 16yo Jake took up piloting with Slider. And when Slider got too old and also sick, he's the first pilot in line to solo a Jaeger. He's KNOWN for being the best active Jaeger pilot there is and he makes sure everyone knows that, too.

His Jaeger is a 6th gen machine, no nuclear core, etc etc.

Ice hates it, tries to hold him back as much as possible which results in A LOT of infighting but Jake also respects his father and Marshall, despite his public attitude.

He does give the old pilots a lot of shit in his interviews.

He's cocky, he's brazen, he's mean and he loves his family SO MUCH, Ice and Slider are all he has. He wants to prove he's just as good as Ice but he also wants to kind of show he's "earning his keep".

Ice resents himself for not letting Jake know any other life than the Shatterdome/Jaeger/Kaiju fighting, there was no way his kid would become anything other than not only a military brat but also an insane Jaeger pilot. Hopes that when their fight is done, Jake gets to live a more normal life and all but does have his doubts.

(And we all look at Iceman who let his One Get Away and then spent the next 30 years running the Kaiju Hunting Show)

I have many thoughts about Iceman/Hangman in this AU.

ROOSTER ON THE OTHER HAND. He knew a different/better life! And had a pretty peaceful upbringing or as much as someone in an alien-invaded world can have. But he did grow up with Maverick haunted and looking up to the Jaeger pilot stories. He decides to become a pilot for both of his fathers and also to prove he can do good. A bit of a world-savior complex.

Of course he and Hangman do not get along as soon as they meet, by the time he gets to pilot a Jaeger, Hangman has already racked up a bunch of field kills.

He turns up to be one of the few pilots able to pilot solo, too, so he gets one of the few 6th gen Jaegers. Competition with Hangman only gets worse from there and it grows even more impossible when they're stationed in the same shatterdome.

(For a good while he doesn't know Hangman is Ice's kid NOR that Ice is the 'Tom' he grew up hearing Maverick talk about. It's a whole thing.)

Phoenix doesn't solo pilot but she has a problem similar to Maverick's. She's HIGHLY selective with her drifting partners and they usually don't last more than a couple runs because they're never good enough for her.

Coyote solo pilots but he's also one of the few able to drift with Hangman. They hit it off when Javy graduated the Academy and went on to field practice, Jake was training to solo pilot.

Bob is one of the top sim scorers but he's not exactly looking to pilot, he's better with the Jaeger engineering and weapons development, but he also likes seeing how they work up close.

Payback is a little older, along with Rooster, he had a few drifting partners, most of them quit as the Corps started losing the war and as the program began to get underfunded, so he quit too. He gets called back when the lvl 6 wipes out half of the new gen pilots, including his last partner.

He's put with Fanboy who's just the most excitable new pilot and no one wants to deal with the kid who's a bit of a Jaeger groupie. Reuben thinks it's cute. They hit it off immediately.

Maverick gets brought in to try and help these new gen kids but also he's one of the few that can pull off piloting a 2nd/3rd gen Jaeger which is what THEY will have to do because lvl6 and above Kaiju have EMPs that simply disable Jaegers of 5th gen and above that are all electronic and not nuclear. He also doesn't want to drift with anyone but ends up drifting both with Rooster for one fight and with Ice for another, despite not wanting anyone else ever again inside his head. (It turns out a healing experience.) Also of course, when Hangster does get to drift and fight, they beat the IceMav 101% sync because that's how we roll.

....ANYWAY I TOLD YOU I HAD MANY MANY THOUGHTS ON THIS AND I UHHHH I SIMPLY.... I love PacRim (as in, I have official merch from the movie release okay) and I love TGM so yes, look at this wholeass AU, I have SO MANY MORE thoughts on it.

Tommy struggles for years to drift with anyone. Tubbo was the closest, but he had better compatibility with Ranboo and the three together were unstable. Phil and Techno together are the best jaeger pilots in the world, seeing as they're 99% compatible Techno and Tommy always butt heads because Techno thinks he's too rash and he thinks Techno is "my way or the highway." Phil though has always believed in him and is very proud when Tommy drifts successfully with Wilbur, his son. With 97% compatibility, they shoot into fame and the pilots of "The Syndicate" and "The Van" become heroes. Until, that is, an awful fight where The Van goes down hard, Wilbur's half is crumpled like tin foil, and The Syndicate is left barely standing to beat the kaiju, crippled on Phil's side. Techno becomes the first pilot to solo a jaeger and a kaiju, barely, agonized by Phil's pain the whole time. The Van is carried by The Syndicate back and they learn Wilbur was killed. Tommy doesn't drift after that–he felt Wil die, Phil retires, and Techno can barely manage soloing. Tommy and Tech argue, take their grief out on each other, until another kaiju comes that no one can beat. Desperate for a jaeger, they try to drift..25%..46%..15%..they can't do it. Tubbo, Ranboo, and a new trio, The Dream Team, beat the kaiju and Techno and Tommy watch from the sidelines. Techno and Tommy lash out at each other again. Phil can't repair the damage. More kaiju come through everyday. Bigger. Stronger. They're an unstoppable force. They need help. Even if he wanted to, Phil can't come out of retirement. He isn't compatible with anyone anymore–not even Techno. The kaiju close in. The Dream Team goes down in the ocean. Tubbo and Ranboo get wrecked. Their jaeger, Michael, is irreparable. Techno as a solo in an experimental jaeger has been their last resort. It drains him. He always come back pale and bleeding from his nose. He's not strong enough on his own, but now they don't have a choice. They almost lose him this time. He can't stop though, the world can't afford to lose "The Blade" and it's pilot, because more kaiju are coming. He and Tommy make up. Tommy and Phil are terrified they're gonna lose him. A monster comes through–the cause of the kaiju's destructive procession. Techno is called and he alone. They will lose him this time for sure. Tommy gets in the jaeger and won't leave. He tells Techno he's being rash, Techno tells Tommy he's being stubborn. They drift...49%..68%..they max at 86%, but it's stable. It's strong enough. They launch. The kaiju's unrelenting force slams into them, but it can't reach land, so it doesn't. Together, Tommy and Techno are unmovable. They are bedrock.
