Attention PTV community!! I was inspired by @miwnet 's Motionless in White Appreciation Week, and have decided to do something similar for Pierce the Veil! Join me in sharing what this band means to you, using any form of expression you choose.

I would like for this to be during the week leading up to the one year anniversary of The Jaws of Life! The 7 prompts I've thought of are each dualities/opposites that I've noticed as running themes in PTV's lyrics. For any given pair of concepts, feel free to either choose one or the other, or create something that incorporates both! Personally I have made two separate gif sets for each day. The prompts are:

Lastly, I want to add how much love and time went into this project on my end. I've made 196 gifs total these past few weeks, and digging into these parallels in PTV's music has healed something in me as well as making me even more insane about this band, if you can imagine.

I would love to see others' creations as part of this but even if no one participates, it's something I'm deeply proud of and cannot wait to share with you all. Hope to see some bangin PTV creations in February!

Today i will rate the skies in the covers of the stuff i have on spotify

Because i am offline while writing this i am naturally restricted by what it will display for me

1. collide with the sky (ptv)

9/10. lighter towards the horizon, great hue shifting, nice fluffy clouds, i love how saturated and blue it all is. one thing i really like is how the field is green and the treeline is so dark because that's just how it is irl for realsies. i guess the only thing that's subpar iis that i feel like for that type of cloud, it would look much more defined? but i guess that's cause the sky can't be distracting too much from the subject. anyways, really nice work. 

2. Master of puppets (metallica)

2/10. Just getting some mixed messaging here. Like, the idea of it being all spooky and warm colors like that is cool, but it just…it all muddles into itself a little much. The light on the crosses doesn't look quite right and it's really hard to parse which parts of the sky are glowing or reflecting or clouds or the background or mountains. This album is really good though so i'll add a point for that

3. Danger days: the true lives of the fabulous killjoys (mcr)

10/10. What is there to say? I mean, awesome gradient…great mixture of scrappiness and fullness in the clouds…those colors are just beautiful…i love how the sun rays are radiating out from the spider in the middle…gotta rep the rest of this composition cause it slays. Seriously, great sky. 

4. Joke cover of my demolition lovers playlsit (mcr)

4/10. This is very standard and pedestrian but seeing as it's literally just a normal stock photo of a construction worker i can't judge it too harshly 

5. Glow (pkch)

9/10. Pukicho is a great photographer and i really appreciate the artistry of this one. My personal preference is for a more crisp and thick cloud but i really like the vagueness and fogginess of these ones. It gives off the impression of a sunset or a sunrise without putting a literal glowing sun or garish colors in, and i like the perspective of the clouds as they approach the horizon seen through how the bands of dark and light get closer and blend into one shade. Just a very beautiful photograph altogether, great colors. 

6. Spirit phone (lemon demon)

5/10. Wasn't even sure if this counted as a sky or not, and i eventually decided it takes place outside during the night, but i did have to dock points for barely even being what i'm rating. I love the strange abstractness of it, the smeared perspective lines that have no purpose other than to look weird. Honorary mention goes out to the characters in the foreground that, though ghosts, can be understood as weather phenomena due to the song in this album "soft fuzzy man" (about a sentient storm that wants to date the listener); giving them the dubious honor of the weirdest clouds ever.  

7. Embers (beetlebug)

8/10 Another edge case, but i decided the patches were clouds so it counted. As a fellow watercolor artist i'm naturaly drawn to this, but who wouldn't be? It's another one that handles the sunset situation with tact and depth; the white edges aren't just a great painting move- they express light shining onto the edges of clouds. Another very clever composition utilizing the sun. just great. 

8. Until the end (beetlebug) 

6/10. Less stunning than the last one, but it's charming in an understated way. It feels very simple and childlike, but does have touches of maturity from the nuanced colors and defined clouds. I really appreciate the bold choice to make the sun red, it's unexpected but striking. 

9. Ride the lighting (metallica)

3/10. Perhaps this is due to my complete lack of experience with thunderstorms, but i just don't like the black thin scrappy clouds. It feels so noncommittal. I'm guilty about rating it so low because i feel like the album cover, overall, looks great (especially the awesome 80s colors, those get compensation points from me) but every time i zero in on the sky itself, i'm just perplexed. 

10. Purrple cat💜 (purrple cat)

1/10. This is just fine. It's a normal sky. It has normal stars and normal planets and normal nebulae. It's so uninteresting. Doesn't attract the eye. Every item evenly spaced out from the other. I don't understand why that planet is glowing but so dark. it just doesn't make sense. 

11. Hallows eve masquerade (beetlebug)

10/10. This is basically the epitome of what's good about beetlebug covers- like, there's a kidlike charm to how simple it is, but there's a finesse to the colors and concept. This one just has such an expertly handled warm color pallete. Love the subtle glow and the centered composition. 

12. Bee and puppycat- official soundtrack playlist [[star swirling emoji]] (milan records)

10/10. See, THIS is how to do a space sky properly. The glowing things glow and it's not desaturated as all get out. This has a good handle on the subtle pink-and-green nebula glow and it's cohesive with the rest of the palette-- I guess that makes sense, because this show is interested in that retro look where chromatic aberration like that is common. 

13. Fly by night (rush)

5/10. Even though i'm not the hugest fan of it, i respect the choice to keep the background elements a solid color. It plain and cohesive, and making everything blue except for the yellow of the eyes is a good idea. 

14. ???? (??)

7/10. This is like 20 pixels but it looks very nice. Going into this i wasn't expecting so many of these to use the sun or moon as a focal point of the composition but i guess it makes sense. I like the color shifting to the horizon. 

15. Kingdom in blue (kupla)

10/10. AAAAAH!! I love how this is a sunset but much more cool colors than all the rest! You don't see the pink + teal a lot but it looks great. The floating island adds a nice flow to the whole thing and a fantastical edge to the more common lo-fi vibe. 

16. Let's cheers to this (sws)

10/10. You know, this would look great if i could SEE it. I'm too miffed to explain why it's good. 

17. Dracula reading playlist (elizabeth)

8/10. i feel like this matches the vibe of the playlist and the book very well. i'm not a huge fan of fog as a stated before but in this instance it really works to punch out the silhouette of the castle, which is the main point. I also like how it's just straight up red. evil.

18. Teal album (weezer)

0/10 i'm mad that i thought this was a sky but it's just a teal background

28/8/24 [3x DIYS // key + significant photos at end]

woke up at almost exactly 9 and went to check on boris via the camera but he wasn’t there, so i assumed that he must be on my guitar amp. my phone was still powered off due to the burn in so i sat on my parents bed for a while and watched tv before getting dressed at 9:30-40. because i’ve run out of shirts to wear, i decided that i’m going to wear my shirts in the order that i originally did when i arrived, so today was my sleeping with sirens shirt.

along with black ripped skinny jeans, two studded belts - one blue-ish purple one silver, knee high converse, my chemical romance band bracelet, a three row studded blue and black cuff, a spiked kandi cuff, diy can tab bracelet, blue skull bracelet [i know the skull has significance i just forgot what it’s from dont come for me], a single row studded cuff, a long purple spiked bracelet, a kandi single, and a string threaded blue bracelet. plus two necklaces, one with kellin quinn on a bottlecap and the other a surfboard shaped wood carved necklace. i finished getting ready a little before 10 and arrived at breakfast at 10:10 after packing my bag, brushing my hair, putting eyeliner on, etc. my parents had once again already gone to breakfast far earlier than me so they’d practically already finished their meal. i had some cereal and looked through some more pictures of boris after while tormenting my dad with them. it’s because he dribbles when he’s happy and my dad thinks it’s gross. at 10:35, we left breakfast to go and collect my shark from yesterday afternoon.

he had been carefully placed into a paper bag and lined up with the other participants clay pieces on a pouffet. we picked him up and brought him back to the chalet, seeing a cranefly on the way. [photo at end cuz i love insects] i stayed in the room up until 11:20 while scrolling through HMV’s in the area, their contents, etc. hopefully i’ll be able to go to one tomorrow when we go into town. at 11:20 me and my parents headed down to the arts and crafts buildings to see if i could squeeze in a plan pot painting session.

i managed to get in and sat on a secluded table with my parents. i already had an idea to draw pete wentz’s iconic tattoo when it was first mentioned to me, so i sketched the tattoo and coloured it in with metallic purple [it was the closest to black]. then my dad had an idea for me to create a circle around it and then paint in the rest of the paint pot around the circle. i couldn’t think of anything else to do with it so he used a pencil to mark a circle into the pot and i painted around it.

i finished that decently quickly as it wasn’t anything fiddly. i had planned to leave the plant pot at the building and come back at another session just to plant the plant/flower so the paint wouldn’t smudge, but staff said that i can do it now and i didn’t know how to say no — so i did. i carefully put the soil in and the staff member sprayed it with water. we then left for the chalet again at just before 12:20. the circle didn’t turn out perfect, neither did the drawing of the tattoo, but i think it’s close enough.

i took a picture of the plant pot for this journal [photo at end] and left just -10 minutes later to see if i could get into another clay coaster making arts and crafts session. fortunately, i could, so i got myself a table with my mum and got up my design of choice on my phone. i chose the pierce the veil symbol as it’s not something too hard, and it’s significant to me. also.. i cant make anything not band related. after id finished covering the coaster with black clay, i put on the pre-made ptv logo and secured it by pressing down on the design. afterwards, i noticed that i had enough time to make another so i did but this time with the sleeping with sirens logo. so now i’d have a frank iero coaster, a pierce the veil coaster, and a sleeping with sirens coaster.

plus the other two random ones i made on saturday. i struggled a bit with the line across the w because i couldn’t decided whether it looked like the logo or not, but i settled on leaving it as it is. i finished at 12:40 and walked back to our room to journal for a while. at 2:20, we all [me, my parents and my sister] went over to the arcade to get round to the fair. but as we were in the arcade, my sister just had to play that minecraft game again, so i played with her. and i lived longer whahahahahaa — after we’d played a game together, she reluctantly followed us outside to the fair. we all queued up shortly for a mexican hat ride.

i sat with my dad in a red cart and was squishing him the entire time. he was sarcastically smiling and speaking about how much he was enjoying it because of the spinny-ness and me crushing him. afterwards we went over to the queue of that ‘back to back arm intertwining’ ride. we got into the queue but then my sister started talking about how she wanted to go swimming and i realised my dad was standing outside of the queue. he said he didn’t want to go on, so we exited the queue and went back through the arcade. me and my sister had another game of the minecraft game. once we’d finished the round, my sister started another and played by herself.

once she was done, we went back to the chalet at 3:30 and i looked through ebay to see if i could find a particular tarantula plushie. i found it, but it wasn’t second hand so it was really expensive and the colours were different. i then just scrolled and journaled on and off until 6 when i went to dinner. i meant to go skating across the beach but i didn’t end up doing so as me and my dad didn’t know when my mum and sister would get back from swimming. me and my parents spoke about stories of me and my sister at dinner and how we’d used to act/the unhinged things we did. i left early and got to the room at 6:40.

i was supposed to be having a nap, but i started collected receipts/things i’d found around/confetti/other random stuff for an upcoming collage. by the time i’d done that, which mind you - it barely took any time, my parents got back and we needed to leave for another show straight away. i decided to come so i could get out of the chalet/journal and/or collage with some live backround music. the tribute is for robbie williams, so not my type of music whatsoever, but like i said i just really came because i could. the show started at 7 and i started setting out how i wanted each bit of the collage to be set out. i finished about ten minutes later because i kept on changing the setup. i once again, will be updating this post and adding a picture of the collage once i’m back home so i don’t expose my location.

afterwards, i journaled and saved pete wentz gifs. in one of the songs, all of the singers/dancers changed into a different outfit and it was exactly my chemical romance’s black parade outfits, just in red. it was kinda crazy. somewhere between 7-9 the show ended and me, my sister and my parents headed to the largest venue for a queen tribute show. we all got ourselves some seats around halfway down all of the rows of chairs and while i waited i asked my parents to name a musician i like, then i’d show them photos of the person. my mum said pete as ive shown her him before and she found him attractive lmaoo, she dosent like his hair now though so boo — my mum and sister then went off so my sister could skate, and i scrolled on my pinterest feed as my dad watched.

i honestly get the weirdest adverts so it was pretty entertaining for him. the show started at approximately 9:30 and my dad was immediately drawn to the guitarist, but i didn’t really see why. maybe it’s because he’s more into rock music rather than whatever i listen to and he’s hearing something i’m not. i went round the front and awkwardly took a few pictures for this journal. [photos at end] i sat and watched through most of the show - he came up right next to us and stood on a chair and there was a lot of singalongs, but i started getting keen on going back to the room. if that was me a year ago when i had my week long queen phase, i would never.

my sister came back with me but she wanted my mum to follow. my mum wasn’t happy that she was missing the show, but once we got to the room and had been settling for not even two minutes, my dad shows up on the door saying the show had finished. i got into my bed and journaled up until [probably, i don’t have times from this point] 12:40 when i had a tiny nap as my sister got to sleep. once waking up, i asked my parents questions about boris and went to sleep at around 1:20-30.

🗝️ — boris/my cat, questions about boris/i ask my parents questions about my cat to verify he's okay + will be okay in the morning. its a compulsive thing and i'm hopefully going to be tested for OCD in the future.

Thrawn RarePairs Challenge 2024: Complete List of Rules

It's official! The Ao3 collection for this challenge has been created. To submit works to it, simply enter "Thrawn RarePairs 2024" into the "Post to Collections/Challenge box on Ao3. Talk to me if you run into problems.

This collection is moderated, so your work will not appear right away. It will be reviewed for compliance with challenge rules first. Full list of rules is below the cut.

1. Participants can create fanworks for any Thrawn Fandom ship that has less than 100 works on Ao3 as of April 2, 2024.

2. Said fanwork must be for a Thrawn fandom or adjoining fandom (like Rebels or Ahsoka). Includes both Legends and Canon. Thrawn himself does not have to be part of the ship.

3. Any (fic) word count is acceptable! All mediums of art welcome! Threesomes and friendships are allowed too.

4. No plagiarism from another fanwork, no AI-generated work, and no remixing another person's work ("fanfic of a fanfic") WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM THE ORIGINAL CREATOR. If anyone has reason to believe an entry in this collection has violated this rule, they should reach out to PTV (the collection moderator) immediately so that appropriate action may be taken.

5. No work that was published (in part or whole) before April 2, 2024 will be accepted. Honored as PTV would be if this challenge inspired you to update a WIP, the purpose of the challenge is to generate new works.

5a. The first chapter of a work (if work is a multichap) must have been posted within the challenge's monthlong window. However, if someone decides to update their fic after the May 1, 2024 deadline has passed, they will NOT face a penalty of any kind.

8. Works will not be denied solely based on poor grammar, but excessive lack of proofreading/poor formatting/inhibited readability may lead the moderator to believe your entry is a troll. Troll works/hate works are not allowed in the collection.

8a. While all languages are allowed, PTV is only fluent in English. This is relevant for rule #9's purposes.

9. All works will be personally reviewed by PTV before they are accepted into the collection. You will receive a kudos and a comment from PTV upon your work's acceptance into the collection. If your work does not meet challenge rules, you will receive a message explaining why.

9a. The review process may take a couple days. PTV DOES have a full time job and family obligations IRL. If you think your work has been skipped due to an oversight on PTV's part, you may POLITELY message her to inquire. Excessive harassment of the moderator is grounds for denial of entry into the collection.

9b. Non-English works will likely be fed through Google Translate. PTV will take translator flaws into account with regards to rule #8.
