Tumblr media
About our February pick:
First published by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania in 1818, History, Manners, and Customs of the Indian Nations provides an account of the Lenni Lenape and other tribes in the mid-Atlantic region, looking at their history and relations with other tribes and settlers, as well as their spiritual beliefs, government and politics, education, language, social institutions, dress, food, and other customs. The text, written by the Reverend John Heckewelder, a Moravian missionary based in Ohio and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, includes the author’s observations, anecdotes, and advice, preserving not only his knowledge about the Indian nations in the eighteenth century but also his perspective, as a missionary and settler, on Native Americans and the often-fraught relationships between the tribes and European settlers. This version of the text, published in 1876, contains an introduction and notes by the Reverend William C. Reichel as well as a glossary of Lenape words and phrases and letters between the author and the then-president of the American Philosophical Society concerning the study of the Indian nations and their languages.

If you’re a computing enthusiast or a nostalgic techie, you might remember the Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 SL9S5 as a groundbreaking piece of hardware from the mid-2000s. While it may seem like a relic of the past, the X6800, with its impressive 2.93 GHz clock speed and unlocked multiplier, remains a fascinating candidate for overclocking. Whether you’re looking to squeeze out a bit more performance from your old system or simply curious about overclocking an iconic processor, this guide will walk you through the steps and considerations for maximizing the potential of your Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 SL9S5.
Understanding the Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 SL9S5
Before diving into the overclocking process, it’s essential to understand the core features of the X6800. Released in 2006, this processor was a part of Intel’s Core 2 Extreme series and was known for its performance and flexibility. With a base clock speed of 2.93 GHz, a 4 MB L2 cache, and an unlocked multiplier, it was designed for enthusiasts who wanted to push their systems beyond standard specifications.
Preparation: What You Need to Know
1. Cooling Solutions: Overclocking generates additional heat, so a robust cooling solution is paramount. The stock cooler is generally insufficient for significant overclocking. Invest in a high-quality aftermarket air cooler or, for more advanced setups, a liquid cooling system.
2. Power Supply: Ensure that your power supply can handle the increased power demands. Overclocking places additional strain on the power components, and a reliable, high-wattage PSU is crucial.
3. Motherboard: A motherboard with a strong reputation for stability and overclocking support is essential. Look for motherboards with advanced BIOS options and good cooling around the CPU socket.
4. Memory: Higher overclocks can stress your system memory. Ensure you have high-quality RAM and consider increasing its voltage or loosening its timings if necessary.
Steps to Overclock the X6800 SL9S5
1. Enter BIOS/UEFI Settings
To begin overclocking, restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings. This is usually done by pressing a specific key during startup, such as DEL, F2, or ESC, depending on your motherboard manufacturer.
2. Adjust CPU Multiplier
The Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 has an unlocked multiplier, which allows for more straightforward adjustments compared to processors with locked multipliers. Increase the multiplier incrementally to achieve a higher clock speed. For instance, if your base clock is 2.93 GHz and you set the multiplier to 10x, you’ll achieve a 2.93 GHz speed. Raising it to 11x will increase your speed to 3.22 GHz.
3. Modify Front Side Bus (FSB) Frequency
In addition to the multiplier, you’ll also need to adjust the Front Side Bus (FSB) frequency. Increasing the FSB will raise the overall clock speed. For example, if you set the FSB to 300 MHz, combined with a multiplier of 10x, you’ll reach a clock speed of 3.00 GHz. Be cautious with FSB adjustments, as it also affects other system components like RAM and PCIe slots.
4. Fine-Tune Voltage Settings
To maintain stability at higher clock speeds, you may need to increase the CPU voltage (Vcore). Start with small increments to avoid excessive heat and potential damage. It’s crucial to monitor temperatures closely after making changes. Higher voltages can lead to increased temperatures and stress on the processor.
5. Test Stability and Monitor Temperatures
After each adjustment, save the BIOS settings and boot into your operating system. Use stability testing software such as Prime95, AIDA64, or IntelBurnTest to stress test the CPU. Monitor temperatures with tools like HWMonitor or Core Temp to ensure they remain within safe limits (typically below 70–75°C under load).
6. Iterate and Adjust
Overclocking is often an iterative process. If your system crashes or shows instability, you may need to adjust settings or revert to previous configurations. It’s a balance between performance gains and system stability. Incremental adjustments and thorough testing are key to achieving a stable overclock.
Tips for Successful Overclocking
1. Start Small: Begin with modest increases in clock speeds and voltages. Small steps help in understanding the limits of your system and ensure stability.
2. Monitor Temperatures: Always keep a close eye on temperatures. Overheating can lead to thermal throttling, reduced performance, and potential hardware damage.
3. Stability is Key: Prioritize system stability over achieving the highest possible clock speeds. A stable system with slightly lower speeds is better than an unstable one with higher speeds.
4. Benchmark Performance: Use benchmarking tools to measure the performance improvements gained from overclocking. This helps you gauge the effectiveness of your changes.
5. Documentation: Keep detailed notes of your settings and changes. This helps in troubleshooting issues and understanding which adjustments yield the best results.
Conclusion
Overclocking the Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 SL9S5 can be a rewarding experience, providing a tangible performance boost to a classic processor. With its unlocked multiplier and robust design, the X6800 is well-suited for enthusiasts looking to squeeze out extra performance. However, it’s crucial to approach overclocking with care, prioritizing stability and cooling to ensure a safe and successful experience.
Whether you’re reviving an old system or exploring overclocking for the first time, following these tips and guidelines will help you get the most out of your Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 SL9S5. Enjoy the thrill of pushing the limits and relive the excitement of high-performance computing from an iconic era in tech history!

The GPU Advantages of Undervolting & overclocking
Tumblr media
MSI Afterburner Walkthrough: GPU Overclocking and Undervolting
Overclocking is easy with our free MSI Afterburner, the most popular graphics card overclocking software. Tuning, monitoring, and other adjustments improve GPU gaming. Avoid phishing sites with modified installers that steal your data by downloading MSI Afterburner from msi.com or guru3d.com.
MSI Afterburner is feature-rich. We offer one-click overclocking, manual overclocking, undervolting, on-screen display, hardware monitoring, custom fan profiles, and video capture.
Before starting
Install modern GPU drivers and MSI Afterburner with RivaTuner Statistics Server for stats and on-screen display. Disable Start Windows in Settings and click OK to save a bad MSI Afterburner install. After PC restart, install. FurMark evaluates stability when changing values.
Enable Start with Windows in MSI Afterburner Settings to load GPU fan profile and settings at startup. Choose GPU manufacturer from the drop-down and enable Unlock Voltage Control and Monitoring. Restart MSI Afterburner and see voltage readings in the main window by clicking OK and Yes. Restarting PCs may detect new GPUs.
Remember to click Apply at Windows Startup in the main window’s upper right corner. Every system startup should use your profile. Application at Windows Startup is greyed out without Profile lock icon. Settings doesn’t allow global hotkeys. Let’s overclock.
Overlocking Guide: OC Scanner
Warning: GPUs lower clock or voltage to prevent overload. Overclocking is safe, mods risky. Always save and close apps before starting. It takes 30 minutes or less on most GPUs, including non-MSI. Info window displays MSI Afterburner and GPUs.
Benchmark and compare MSI Afterburner’s four main GPU clock, Memory Clock, Voltage, and Temperature values to the framerate after enabling Unlock Voltage Control and Monitoring in Settings/General. The latest version includes troubleshooting, manual overclocking, and OC Scanner’s one-click overclocking. MSI Afterburner tracks laptop GPU CPU and GPU temperatures in small increments.
Set power, temp limit, and core voltage to max before applying. Read about this interface in Undervolting by clicking Curve Editor or Ctrl+F. Press the magnifying glass with “OC” on the main window or click OC Scanner in the upper-right corner. While most skins have OC buttons, this article uses Mystic.
One-click scan overclocks. The procedure takes 30 minutes. After completion in the main window, the Core Clock will say Curve and the Memory Clock may be 200 MHz conservative. Adjust after achieving curve.
Create a custom curve in 30 minutes and save it to two profiles using the Floppy icon and profile numbers. Click the bottom centre checkmark to overclock. Because number keys 1–5 load a saved profile and Ctrl+1–Ctrl+5 deletes it, choose the main window carefully. Clicking the circular arrow icon or pressing Ctrl+D resets your GPU to default settings during testing, preserving your saved profiles.
Unigine Heaven/FurMark verify overclock stability. Test the benchmark for 10 minutes for glitches, flickering, blackouts, and crashes. If issues arise, change the curve, save, and retest. Start your favourite game to test.
Manual unlocking FAQs
Although OC Scanner is recommended, you can manually overclock. First adjust processor, then memory. Drag power and temp limits to max in main window and apply. Adjust Core Clock 20–30 MHz per step, apply, and test.
Click Save and profile when done. GPU chip overclocking sets a target, but silicon lottery may affect results.
After a stable overclock, boost memory by 50–100 MHz. Stability test. Bugs? Reduce memory clock by 10 MHz until stable. Save to profile, benchmark 10 minutes, play if stable. Reduce core and memory overclock for stability.
Overclocking may increase power draw. Pigtails need power supply cables to reach the first GPU connector. Your PSU may overprotect during transient spikes, turning off your PC. Change fan curve as GPU heats up and uses more power. Instructions below.
Restart a frozen or blue-screened computer. Thank goodness you saved that successful attempt. If the screen goes black and unresponsive for minutes, hold the power button for 4 seconds to shut down your PC. Or turn off the PSU switch, wait 10 seconds, turn it on, and press your PC’s power button.
CMOS clearing may be last. Turn off power. Bridge motherboard CMOS jumper pins for 10+ seconds with tweezers or screwdrivers. Luxury motherboards may have Clear CMOS. After connecting or turning on your power supply, restart your PC.
Curve editor undervolting guide
GPU undervolting saves power, heat, fan noise, and FPS. Reduced power may boost GPU performance. The chip may perform better with less power and heat. Undervolting is safe but risky.
Run OC Scanner and save two profiles before undervolting. However, aggressive undervolts benefit mid- to high-end GPUs, but monitoring and tweaking is tedious. Undervolting videos from Tech Illiterate and Tech Yes City shaped this section.
Click the monitor heartbeat icon or press Ctrl+M to undervolt MSI Afterburner on the left. Like Hardware Monitoring, the window shows real-time GPU temp and voltage graphs, but you can select or rearrange entries.
Play or benchmark your favourite game to compare framerate. After 5 minutes of Furmark and FPS recording, MSI Afterburner compares GPU, Memory, Voltage, and Temperature. Benchmark behind MSI Afterburner to test our changes. HWinfo displays GPU voltages and temperatures.
After getting your Curve, set Power Limit% to 100 and Core Voltage% to 0 in OC Scanner and click Apply. Curve Editor or Ctrl+F opens the voltage curve editor. Dragging a corner expands the window for easier point-grabbing and adjustments. Assess target GPU undervolting settings and compare results.
ALT+drag lowers OC Scanner’s custom voltage curve by our search amount. At low power, Ctrl+dragging the curve bottom up prevents undervolting. Take the 950-millivolt point you found.
Hold Shift and drag slightly left or right of the point in empty space above or below. Shift+Enter twice flattens line. Keeping this profile. DOTS indicate GPU curve position.
Stability testing includes frame stutters, artefacts, and 1% benchmark small changes. Adjusting Memory Clock speed by 50–100 MHz follows. Best wins.
Undervolting with Power Limit Slider
The Power Limit% main slider works, but Curve power limiting is better. The main MSI Afterburner window shows default Power Limit and Core Voltage. Adjust the Power Limit slider to 70%–90% in 5% increments, apply, and test. OSD and hardware monitoring balance FPS and power. Monitoring/Settings may call this “Power.” Save profile. Subdued.
Apply to Windows Startup loads these settings. Game after 10-minute benchmark if stable. After maxing, boost power for stability.
Which stabilises? Frame stutters and 1% lows outnumber artefacts. If benchmark, game, or PC crash, try 50 or 30 mV.
GPUs like the 4090 may be firmware-locked below the graph, lowering results. Play your favourite game after a 10-minute benchmark to test undervolt stability. FSR, Ray-Tracing, and DLSS may use more power in games.
FAQs on Undervolting Curve editor offers point and curve editing advice.
Line alt-dragging vertically adjusts curves.
Drag with Shift to use saved or default profile curves.
Ctrl+dragging raises/lowers the graph curve.
Double-click to clear graph area for point adjustment.
Shift+Enter twice doesn’t flatten the graph? Double click to clear the area, select past the dot, and try again. Adjust after clicking again.
Select and press Enter to enter voltage.
Adjust the selected point by 1 using up and down arrows or by 10 using Ctrl+up or down.
After applying, the editor’s L key locks GPU voltage and frequency to that dot. GPU dynamic adjustment and power-saving won’t happen. It doesn’t lock graph dots. Use L to unlock and apply if testing helps. Reset the card to defaults (Ctrl+D) after saving a few profiles to avoid waiting 30 minutes for another OC Scanner session.
Graphics may undervolt by default. Why? Manufacturers maintain a stable voltage range for identical GPUs with slightly different tolerances. Resetting undervolting decreases fps, increased 1% lows, screen tearing, and instability.

Untitled WIP
Unedited, literally copy and pasted from my WIP doc, so there’s a bunch of grammar/spelling mistakes, weirdly worded sentences, mini plot holes, and one instance of using morning three times in one sentence.
Idea: Neil and Andrew don’t get together at PSU. Now they’re pros on separate teams and Neil still has a crush. This is the beginning bit.
Neil braced his arms on his shaky legs. His breath came in heaves. It didn’t seem like oxygen existed in the bubble of the court. His racket fell to the ground the moment the buzzer sounded. His arms could no longer hold it. The crowd’s screams were muffled by the barriers. He did his best not to sit down; it made recovery later harder. It also made getting back up more difficult. The ground in front of him swayed. They won. Neil sat down.
Neil was jostled to the side as Brian slid on the court and crashed into him. “We won! We’re going to semi’s baby!! Woohoo!”
Neil smiled, he smiled bigger. One was already stretched across his face. The corners of his mouth hurt.
Brian was there and then he was gone, searching for his next victim.
Neil plopped back on the court floor. His chest heaving. It’s been a while since he’s played a full half plus part of the first half. It wasn’t like in college. There were six strikers on his team. He was getting soft. He’ll have to talk with his coach on adding more cardio endurance to his training.
“You alright there Josten?”
A shadow passed over the court’s overhead lights.
“I’m fine”
“Oh sure. Water?” Taylor the athletic trainer asked, holding out a green Gatorade bottle.
Neil sat up and took it.
“How’s the knee doing? Any lingering pain?”
Neil bent his right knee to test. He had to sit out the previous game due to a minor strain. “It’s as good as new.”
“Alrighty then, upsie daisy,” he said as he offered and hand up and Neil took it. “You know where that goes.” Taylor said pointing to the water bottle.
Neil nodded.
Taylor smiled and walked off to another athlete.
Neil unhooked his helmet while walking out of the court. Sweat soaked the bandana holding his hair back. Sweat dropped down the side of his face and into his eyes. He rubbed it away and when he opened his eyes he saw Andrew in the crowd.
That couldn’t be right. Andrew was and four-hour flight away. He has a game the next night.
Neil rubbed his eyes again. Andrew was still there.
He must have sensed Neil’s gaze. He looked up. He was exactly how Neil remembered him the last time he saw him at his college graduation. Dressed head to toe in black. His face void of expression.
Andrew didn’t nod. Didn’t acknowledge that Neil was there. Just stared at Neil. Neil’s foot caught on the sideline bench and he fell forward. Luckily Evan was there and steadied him before he face planted into the concrete floor.
“Woah you alright?” Evan asked.
“Uh, yeah.” Neil looked back up to the crowd but he was gone. There and gone like the early morning must that clung to summer mornings on the way to morning practices.
“Hey you ready for press duties?” Evan asked setting the pace to the media room.
“Huh? Yeah...” Neil gave one last look to Andrew and let himself be dragged to the mixed media area.
The night brought a slight chill to mid-July. The sky filled with the moon and only the stubbornest stars. By the time Neil was leaving the clock was pushing eleven. His mind was still racing from the game and from everything he has to do the following day. Highlights flashed through his mind while he tried to cement in his brain that he needed to talk to the conditioning coach to add more endurance based workouts. They had tomorrow off of practice but Neil wanted to get some type of run in, plus he had a meeting with his PR manager in the afternoon.
He reached for his keys to unlock his car door and paused when he saw Andrew leaning against the hood of his car. A cigarette clung to the edges of his mouth. It wiggled when he spoke.
“Earth to Josten,” he said mockingly. “What’s up space cadet?”
“Andrew.” Neil frowned, his heart thumped. “I thought you quit?”
“Eyes Josten. Do you see smoke?”
“I guess not.” Neil stopped and stood in front of him. “Don’t you have a game tomorrow? What are you doing here?”
“Of course you know my schedule. Wouldn’t expected less from a junkie.” “I’m here on business.”
Neil tossed a look around the parking lot. They were the only ones there. “I didn’t know the moriyamas were in town. They usually have the courtesy to call first.” He hadn’t received any communications from Ichirou’s men for some time and he wasn’t due for another couple months. It was the same for Andrew and Kevin.
Out of habit or out of paranoia, Neil thought of the ways he could disappear. He had a bag packed. Admittedly he would have to go through it again to make sure it was up to date.
Before his thoughts got to far Andrew pushed off the hood of Neil’s car. “Other business.” Andrew pulled the cigarette from his mouth and leaned in. “Don’t worry about it.” He tucked the cigarette behind Neil’s ear and began walking off. “Later junkie.”
“Do you- “ Neil stopped. Andrew pauses. Listening. He didn’t know what he wanted to say. He didn’t want Andrew to leave yet. It’s been so long since they’ve seen each other and he didn’t know the next time their paths would cross. If Andrews team won tomorrow, they had a chance to meet in the finals. His team was in the opposite bracket. But that relied too much on fate and Neil was not a fan. “Do you want a ride to the airport?” He finally asked.
Andrew continued walking. “I have a car.”
Neil unlocked his car and sat without starting it. His cheeks hurt earlier from smiling. Now they hurt from not. It’s been so long since he’s last seen him. His chest aches with a familiar feeling. He thought the distance would calm the overwhelming emotion. But unlike a fine wine. It didn’t get better with age.
Neil was self-aware enough to know.
It doesn’t mean he has to like the information.
And he would never act on it in his lifetime.
They’ve known each other too long.
Their lives too complicated to make something together.
It was probably too late anyway. His one chance ruined by timing and ignorance of knowing.
It will forever be a secret he will take to his grave.
The secret of his crush on Andrew.

Nautlius GT Kit: Quality and Design
Tumblr media
The Nautilus GT Kit
The Nautilus GT Kit is very solid and nicely built. It’s mostly rectangle but with rounded corners which gives the device a unique ergonomic design.  The fire button is rounded and clickable and it’s located on the front part of the mod. In addition, it has ”+” and “-“buttons just under the OLED screen.
The Glint Mod
The Glint mod is made of solid materials. The top and bottom parts are made of zinc alloy and the housing is made of aluminum and high-quality plastic.  As all the Aspire mods, the Glint Mod comes with an Aspire chipset with safety features. The ASP chipset has the following safety features:
Vaping overtime protection
Short circuit protection
Overheat protection
Low voltage protection
Overcharge protection
Over discharge protection
The Battery
The battery goes in from the bottom of the mod. The Glint mod has a very convenient battery door that you just need to slide to open it. As mentioned in the introduction, the battery is an 18650 battery which is a powerful battery for a vape mod designed for a MTL vaping experience.
The Nautilus GT Tank
The Drip Tip
The drip tips are very comfortable and narrow compared with other drip tips. The Nautilus GT drip tip is designed for a perfect mouth-to-lung vaping style. The drip tips are made of thermoplastic polyetherimide (PEI drip tips). The PEI drip tips are great, and they don’t get hot while vaping.
The Tank
The Nautilus GT tank is equipped with a special airflow system designed to enhance the Nautilus’ coils performance. The airflow control is in the base hardware and it’s easy to adjust. It Has five airflow holes with different diameters and you just need to rotate the airflow ring to adjust it.
Available in four colors: stainless steel, gunmetal, rose gold and black. The metal sleeve that protects the Pyrex glass is made of stainless steel, however, the colors have different coatings. For example, the rose gold version is 85% gold plated and the black version is DLC (Diamond-like carbon) coated and with vacuum plating.
The glass is Pyrex for the 3 ml version while the TPD version (2 ml version) is made of acrylic.
In addition, another cool characteristic of the Nautilus GT tanks is that the inner part of the chimney is made of the same heat resistant material as the drip tip (thermoplastic polyetherimide PEI).
Furthermore, the Nautilus GT base hardware is quite thick which allows the tank to cool down quickly.
Nautilus Coils
Tumblr media
The Nautilus Kit comes with two coils: a Nautilus BVC coil of 1.6 ohm and one Nautilus 2S mesh coil of 0.7 ohm that is preinstalled.
The Nautilus GT is compatible with the famous aspire BVC coils that are designed for a premium MTL vaping experience. On the other hand, the mesh coils is ideal for a restricted DTL vaping experience.. The tank is compatible with all the Nautilus BVC series and all Nautilus mesh coils.
The kit comes with two coils: a Nautilus BVC coil of 1.6 ohm and one Nautilus 2S mesh coil of 0.7 ohm that is preinstalled.
How to Vape the Nautilus GT Kit?
Tumblr media
The Nautilus Kit is perfect for a mouth-to-lung vaping style.
The Nautilus GT Kit is designed for a MTL vaping style. The drip tip is narrower than other mods which is perfect for a mouth-to-lung vaping experience.
It comes with two coils a 1.6 ohm that is more suitable for a MTL style and a 0.7 sub-ohm mesh coil for vapers looking for a restricted DTL vaping experience.
The tank is very easy to use. For example, it’s very easy to change the coils as you just need to invert the tank and unscrew to remove the base hardware. Then you just need to unscrew the coil and replace it for a new one.
Very easy to fill
Tumblr media
The tank is very easy to fill.
It’s very simple to fill the tank. You just need to remove the top cap by twisting it anticlockwise until the dots on the top hardware are aligned.
Vaping Experience: The Nautilus GT Kit
The mod has many features. To lock or unlock the mod you need to press five times the fire button in short succession. In addition, if you press the fire button for two seconds in locked mode will turn the system off. On the other hand, if you want to turn it on, then press the fire button five times in short succession.
There’s another cool feature. The Nautilus GT Kit offers the option to lock the “+” and “-“ buttons and the screen. If you press the fire buttons three times in short succession, then you will lock the screen and only the fire button remains operative.
The Nautilus GT Kit is very versatile as you can set it as a classic MTL device or vape it as a DTL sub-ohm device.

IT BE DONE...
Tumblr media
a perfect ending screen with music that I just sat to and listened to for a few minutes (also I loved how my broken computer clock messed with the screenshot naming so the last ones are before the ones in the castle)
Tumblr media
also got a sweet hat for all my trouble (I’d be fan of a solid hat+bow+rose honestly, torn between plain-with-bow and stripe-with-bow-and-rose)
Tumblr media
but yeah that final chapter was fun
Tumblr media
(she even has a mustache’d throne)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nice bits of Mustache Girl fanart.
Not gonna lie, was hoping for a time rift to explore what happened to Mustache Girl’s past and her mustache- unless that’s what happened when you gave her the time piece, I did the Hat Kid thing which was keep it for myself
Tumblr media
BLEHHH
Tumblr media
(this was the hardest decision in the game but of course I said no I’m Hat Kid and also I love the Mafia)
(it’s funny because I never do those kind of decisions, I’m always the morally right help everyone type but this game made me morally gray and I like it)
also right before I went into the castle I decided “y’know what’s a hint for that Why achievement” and it was saying a bad word to a crow and I was like “ohhh don’t make me swear come on” and after many butts and other Ny profanity eventually I had to resort to normal profanity (not even Peck would work...)
Tumblr media
The final fight was fun, I felt bad because the first time I died in the fight was when the scene transitioned to the Mafia punching the other Mafia, dying a lot in the cherry phase, and then getting to that point again and being invincible was like “awww come on I was right there”
but surprisingly no crashing, but I loved how this band of misfits got together to fight the law-abiding(?) Mustache Girl
also you know I had to equip the Projectile Badge, I never used it in the entire game from how awkward and vulnerable you are when using it, but it felt just right to use it in that fight (also thinking when she kept dodging that I had to have a beam war with her until Mafia and Conductor came). Also went with default colors and Hat for the fight, no hat tricks or anything, classic Hat Kid (with badges).
SO YEAH OVERALL THOUGHTS
game was fantastic, most fun I’ve had with a game in years
Music was absolutely 200/10, it set the tone so well and every song knocked it out of the park (though I didn’t listen to too many remixes, mostly the original score).
Mafia, Conductor, Snatcher, were all fantastic, and every boss fight in this game was great. I was skeptical after the Beta’s Mafia fight, were they all going to be that basic-ish and just reskins, but nope, they knocked it out of the park.
Mafia Town >= Subcon > Birds > Alpine, I feel. I loved every world though. Mafia Town I’ve loved since the Alpha, I could wander around there for hours just exploring and collecting things and reading all the signs and graffiti and whatnot.
Subcon blew me away, this one I had no idea what to expect since I only saw Vanessa’s manor, had no idea how they’d build on that and still capture the Mafia Town feel of exploration but boy did they. A giant forest that unlocks in segments, and each section distinct and crammed with things to do and explore and look at. I was scared I’d get lost and miss a lot of things in the forest, but it leads you along so well and you realize “ohh that’s where I am I’m right next to x”, and unlocking them segment by segment really helps get the most out of each one. I also generally love the spooky atmosphere, and that plot twist in the time rift really caught me off guard. I think the Snatcher was my favorite boss fight in the game, I loved how he played with the mechanics of the game and your expectations, and also Hat Kid smells. He was the boss I got the One Punch achievement with, he’s so easily accessible that I couldn’t help but wanting to fight him again and again. If I had to find a flaw in the stage, it’s the voices of those minions, but that’s a small opinion.
Tumblr media
Battle of Birds also caught me off guard, though I saw most of the broad strokes from trailers at least. Very stealth oriented, I enjoyed myself, though I did have a few issues (mostly with the platforming- tight ropes are pain). Loved the Conductor way more than DJ Grooves (though he had a likable personality I have to admit that), the Conductor was my first and his stages were so much better- The murder mystery was great (I replayed it a ton of times trying not to get caught for an achievement, only to realize it was for the first act, whoops), lots of fun uses with your answers (poor Hat Kid’s butt doesn’t deserve this shaming). The race I remember from the Beta, and I was wondering how they’d build it into a full world, but I like how they did it. Not much to say about the race, but it was fun.
Grooves’ stages were okay. The first one had me interested in what they could do with the set, since it was a decent sized city. But really, only saying hi to penguins and getting photos taken. Second one was probably my least favorite in the game, it’s just a “keep moving and pressing buttons” one, with annoying tight ropes no less. Once I found a place to just walk in circles, I did that for the no-fall achievement, pressed buttons, then went back to my safe spot. Really lackluster compared to the rest of the game, but I can’t say it was bad.
Of course I tilted the lead in favor of the Conductor, but from what I heard apparently you can’t fight Grooves at all, so I’ll have to watch scenes and see what’s different.
Tumblr media
Not sure how to feel about Alpine. That one I knew the least about since I started going radio silent around the time it was announced, but yeah. The maps themselves are very interesting, they give me a very Zelda feel- The Volcano, Twilight zone, really Zelda-esque setting with Zelda-esque puzzles. Of course, personally I wasn’t a fan of the aesthetic (though that’s solely opinion based, I like the more modern things compared to rustic-nomads-in-mountains thing, same with me and most RPGs in general), but I do admit the maps are very well designed. It didn’t have a lot of character personality though- No Mafia, Conductor, Snatcher, no witty dialogue, mostly “go this way!” and silent big guys. I admit, of all the minor NPCs (Owls, Penguins, etc), I was okay with these accented mountain goat people things the most (at least in voice acting), the accent helped. But yeah, really lacked that character charm the other worlds had unfortunately.
Of course, like I said, the puzzle design was good, and the final “go through every area” thing was neat, but yeah it just needed a little more character life to it I suppose. Did like the crows in the Birdhouse though
Tumblr media
Did find it a bit odd that some characters were voiced in the final act and some weren’t, I just chalked it up to not being able to get a hold of them for that scene. Mostly the minor NPCs I noticed, so not too big a deal.
Also need to find a list of all the diary entries somewhere, to be honest I wasn’t the biggest fan of them since I like my silent protagonist and having an interpretatable avatar, but they were still neat and I would love to see all of them- OH WAIT I NEVER CHECKED AFTER BEATING THE GAME
Tumblr media
also I do miss the islands and the sharks and the rockets and old man from the Alpha/Beta, as well as that second Vanessa stage (the one involving wires I believe). I tried as hard as I could to get up to this ledge, but sadly I kept failing. It feeeels doable though.
Tumblr media
My only regret was my computer constantly crashing and losing progress (like I said the Freedom color was my first color but I lost it to a crash and it was sad and now I’m like two roulette spins behind). I have a decent-ish computer (GTX 770 graphics card, the Seasonic 750W PSU is dying I think) I had to run the game at a 1280x720 resolution with graphics set to the notch right before High Performance.
So yeah, only real complaints- Hat Kid’s face being too pointy instead of round and squishy (especially noticeable in the final cutscene), some questionable voice acting decisions with minor NPCS (nothing to do with whatever scandal people like bringing up since I still heard that Jon guy’s voice and saw his name in the credits so yeah, people keep bringing him up for some reason) and the tight rope platforming. And even then, those are just minor complaints.
and last here’s all the stuff I got by the end of the game (along with  five music remixes, two of them were a Mafia remix (orchestral battle and cyber normal I think), one was a train, one was Subcon (the first area with the foxes I believe), and one was time rift. Might have unlocked one more afterwards, not sure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah, one more thank you to the entire team for making this game a reality. Huuuge shout out to the musician Pascal, absolutely fantastic work from start to finish. Shout out to all artists who worked on this project, I know Shane Frost(?) and Jenna Brown were two of them, Jenna was art director, and her art in the title screens was fantastic, and I think Shane did some of the Subcon/Bird designs and probably more. Huge shout out to Jonas, for making this entire thing happen, and for making such a wonderful project happen. And everyone else who worked on the game who I didn’t name, know that you did a fantastic job.
I discovered this game randomly, one month after the Kickstarter ended, I browsed a guy named JoshJepson’s channel (I’m a big fan of ProtonJon, and decided to check out Josh’s channel on a whim) and he had just done a playthrough of the Alpha, and I was like, “whoa I need to get this game”. So I became a slacker backer, got Alpha and Beta access, and couldn’t be more satisfied.
I also prooobably should’ve participated in the speed run event, but I wanted to go into the game completely blind but sadly missed out on a hat in the process, oh welll.
This is a game I really want to learn how to mod, and make levels with. I feel that it has the groundworks for some really great fangames, even. I hope this game continues to get the praise it deserves.
this game is
fun

Hey idk if you are still looking for prompts because I scrolled pretty far back, but if so, how about "that's the dumbest shit I've ever heard let's do it" or ”it’s a long story that involves a lot of blood, a couple squirrels, and one hell of a headache” for any of the foxes? Thanks, I love love love your writing and I've really enjoyed looking through your blog!
I’m always accepting prompts! And thank you so much for the lovely compliments! I hope you enjoy! This is basically a shitpost in fic form. It’s a crack fic. I’m not even sorry. Also you probably need to suspend a lot of disbelief for this; just roll with it
“That’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard; let’s do it”
—
Neil is still trying to get the hang of his new phone. Nickyhad insisted that he upgrade to this century and had practically dragged Neilto the mall to purchase an iPhone. The rest of the Foxes were more than happyabout the change, some money even exchanging hands, but there’s so much goingon with his phone now. Before, all Neil had to worry about were text messagesand phone calls, but now there’s a bunch of apps that Nicky keeps trying toteach him. He thinks he’s starting to get a handle on Snapchat thanks to thedaily snaps from Allison. At the very least, he’s no longer confused by the waythey disappear after opening them. And Instagram seems easy enough, so Neiltries to keep track of that so he can see Renee’s posts from around the world.
Neil can admit that the ESPN app is great. It’s set up tosend him notifications for Exy news and score updates. It’s that app that iscurrently dinging at Neil as he makes his way across campus. The trade deadlineis coming up for the National Exy League, and Neil’s been trying to keep up andfollow the changes. After Neil reads the latest update, the striker tries tosee the current NCAA standings, but his new phone isn’t cooperating. He bats atthe screen a few times, but when it finally switches over to NCAA Exy, it’s thenews page. Neil lets out a frustrated noise and is about to just give up when aheadline catches his eye.
Neil scrolls through and reads the article the whole wayback to Fox Tower. He still has his phone out and the page open as he unlocksthe door to his dorm. The room is full of people, but Neil has learnt to beunsurprised by that. Nicky and Aaron are in the beanbags, a video game of somesort blaring on the television. Kevin is sprawled out on the couch with hislaptop in his lap while Andrew is perched on his desk by the window.
“Hey, Neil,” Nicky greets, not taking his eyes off the gamehe’s playing. “How was class?”
“Did you guys know someone tried to steal the University ofTexas’ mascot last night? Not the costume; the actual longhorn.”
“How unoriginal,” Nicky says. “That’s like the oldest prankin the book. I mean everyone’s—”
Nicky cuts off as he finally draws his eyes away and meetsNeil’s, his face contorting into a mix of guilt and regret. The backliner openshis mouth again, but whatever rambling remedy was on the tip of his tongue, he swallowsit down and snaps his lips shut. When no one else in the room has anything toadd, Neil resigns himself to his desk. He can feel Andrew’s eyes boring intohis cheek, but the striker focuses on outlining his upcoming essay until practice.
The news story gets forgotten, blurred away by drills andbickering freshmen and a scrimmage. But it’s still nestled a place in the backof Neil’s mind, niggling in the periphery of his thoughts persistently. By thetime he’s changing out after practice, it’s made its way back to the forefront.
He thinks about the article, about Nicky’s cut off words, ashe and Andrew sit up on the roof, the nighttime humid and inky around them. Hismind is a whirlwind of thoughts tangled up with the billows of smoke wisping inthe evening breeze. He almost doesn’t notice the distinctive smell of nicotineor the way his cigarette has burned down to the filter. He doesn’t realize he’szoned out on the twinkling lights of the campus until the cool, feather lighttouch across the back of his hand pulls him back.
When Neil looks to his right, Andrew is already watchingback. He raises an eyebrow in question at the striker’s silence, and Neil stubsout his cigarette.
“Do you think I’m missing out?” Neil asks. “Having not donea prank before?”
Andrew doesn’t say anything in response. He watches Neil fora few more moments before he stubs out his own cigarette. He beckons his headtowards the roof door, and Neil tries not to read too much into it as the tworetreat down to their dorm.
The next morning before heading to the gym for workouts,Andrew drags Neil and Kevin next door. The goalkeeper picks the lock with anease Neil feels he shouldn’t be surprised by at this point. The three burstinto the room where Aaron and Nicky are tucked into the kitchenette withsteaming mugs cradled in their hands. Neither bats an eye at the intrusion.
“We’re stealing a mascot tonight,” Andrew says to the room.
“What?!” Kevin squeaks out from just inside the doorway.
“That’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard,” Nicky says, setting down his mug. “Let’s do it.”
“What.”
“Oh, come on, Kevin, it’ll be fun!” Nicky reasons. “I betyou’ve never pulled a prank either. And it’ll be like a senior prank for you.It works out perfectly!”
“While that’s all well and good,” Aaron pipes up. “Where areyou going to steal this mascot from? Most schools don’t have real animalmascots these days. We certainly don’t have a fox running around.”
“University of Texas has a real animal mascot,” Neil says.
“You want us to travel all the way to the University ofTexas?” Aaron asks, tone deadpan.
“There has to be somewhere closer,” Nicky offers, fiddlingwith his phone for a moment. “University of North Carolina! That’s not too farto drive.”
“There’s no way we’re fitting a ram in my car,” Andrew says.
“Matt has a truck,” Neil suggests.
It’s at that moment that Matt walks out of the bathroom, toothbrush hanging between his teeth and phone pressed to his ear. Hisexpression startles when he notices all pairs of eyes on him.
“Hey, Matt,” Neil says. “Can we borrow your truck tonight?”
“We’re driving up to UNC tonight to steal their mascot,”Nicky jumps in to explain. “You in?”
Neil thinks it must be a sign that Matt’s been living withNicky and Aaron too long because the backliner just shrugs in acceptance.
“I’m going to have to call you back, Dan,” Matt says intohis phone. “We’re kidnapping Rameses.”
- - -
Researching during lunch reveals that UNC has a small farmon their campus. It acts as a training center for students studying veterinarysciences, but it also doubles as Rameses’ home. It seems easy enough to get to,and the farm being tucked away from the dorms means students shouldn’t bemilling about.
It should be easy.
Their first complication arrives before they even get oncampus. After dinner, everyone changes into black clothes and piles into Matt’struck, and then they’re heading up north along the interstate. It’s a bit of ahike through North Carolina, but luckily, the sun has long since set by thetime they’re nearing the campus. Matt directs the truck towards the entrance thatwill bring them closest to the farm, but security stops them to check forschool ID’s.
Despite Matt’s sweet talking and Nicky’s attemptedexplanation that they’re attending an on-campus party, the security guardremains unimpressed and stubborn, turning them away. Matt ends up parking thetruck outside a row of off-campus houses, and the group sneaks onto the campus.
UNC is bigger than PSU, and as Neil looks around at thedifferent buildings looming over him, it’s a bit disorientating, and yet there’sno mistaking that thrum of excitement. They keep mostly to the shadows and keeptheir heads down, trying not to draw attention to themselves. As collegestudents themselves, they at least blend in a little.
After a few wrong turns down campus roads, they find thefarm. They hop over the fence and make their way up the dirt path to the barn. Neilmakes quick work of picking the lock and they all slip inside. The poignantsmell of manure and livestock hits them like a tsunami wave, and Neil puts ahand over his mouth to try and stifle it. Similar reactions ripple through thegroup. Nicky, Matt, and Aaron pull out their phones to provide light as theymove further into the barn. Neil peers into the first cubby on his left only tocome face to face with a horse.
“Aw this one has a cute little pig in it,” Nicky says fromfurther down. “We should take this too.”
“Focus, Nicky,” Kevin snaps.
Neil has to stifle a laugh at Nicky’s muttered response ashe continues to look for the ram. The next cubby he checks has a donkeysleeping inside, though.
“Hey!” Matt exclaims. “I found him!”
Everyone joins Matt and crowds around the cubby. Rameses hasbacked into the far corner. He stares at them all for a few moments beforeletting out a bleat. Matt, Nicky, and Kevin begin a murmured argument aboutwhat to do next when Andrew opens the door to the cubby and steps inside, arope in his hand that he ties around Rameses to lead the ram out. Once they getRameses out of the barn, they move as a slow huddle down the road in an attemptto hide their deed. Andrew ends up handing the rope over to Aaron so he canlead the group when it becomes apparent no one else can remember the way backto Matt’s truck.
A security guard is making rounds around the campus, so theyhave to duck between the shadows of two buildings while they wait for him topass. It’s at this moment that Rameses becomes fed up with his captors. A swiftkick to Aaron’s shins leaves the backliner recoiling in pain and dropping therope. Rameses takes the opportunity to escape, darting out from their hidingspot. Matt and Neil are quick to chase after the ram, but running into thelight of the streetlamps reveals that the security guard isn’t as far away asthey anticipated and the bleating has drawn his attention.
“Hey!” the security guard shouts, already running in theirdirection. “What do you think you’re doing?!”
“Oh shit,” Neil says under his breath.
“Time to go,” Andrew says, grabbing a fistful of the back ofNeil’s shirt and tugging.
“Wait! What about Rameses?” Matt asks, gesturing towards theparking lot the ram is tearing through.
“Leave him!” Nicky shouts, taking hold of Matt’s wrist andyanking him away.
They can hear the security guard getting closer, his poundingfootsteps and his shouts of needing backup. No one needs to be told twice. Theysqueeze out the other side of the buildings and break into sprints, scatteringin different directions.
Neil can feel the adrenaline thrumming in his veins. Itleaves his ears ringing and his heart pounding in his chest as his feet smackagainst the ground. Andrew veers off to the right in front of him, and Neilfollows. The shortcut takes them through the brush, and branches cut at Neil’sarms and ankles. It does nothing to quiet the thrill bubbling in his chest.
Matt’s truck comes into view, Aaron and Kevin alreadywaiting in the bed. Nicky and Matt come tearing in from the other side, yankingthe doors of the cab open to clamber inside.
“Do you think the ram is alright?” Matt asks, out of breath.
“That’s not important right now, Matthew! Drive!” Nickyshouts.
Andrew practically bodily throws Neil into the truck bedbefore jumping in himself. Matt kicks the truck into gear and peels away fromthe curb, tires screeching in his wake. As Matt speeds off, Neil can’t help thegiddy laughter that bubbles out of him, taking him over until there are tearsin his eyes.
“Well that was fun.”
“Junkie.”

Unlocked Book of the Month: Tales of the Bald Eagle Mountains in Central Pennsylvania
Tumblr media
About our April pick:
Tales of the Bald Eagle Mountains in Central Pennsylvania, originally published in 1912 by the Bright Printing Company, was the fourth of Henry Shoemaker’s many published volumes of fantastical tales about Pennsylvania’s folklore and wildlife. Focusing on what Shoemaker calls the “dark and sombre” Bald Eagle Mountains of Centre, Clinton, Lycoming, Juniata, and Union counties, the book provides a tale or legend centered on each mountain in the range. Stories of hunters and wolves, giant bears, quirky innkeepers and mysterious travelers, nefarious magic, brave Native American warriors, tragic murders, and anguished lovers are spun with the author’s usual flair for blurring the lines between myth and reality. Like Shoemaker’s other books, Tales of the Bald Eagle Mountains preserves a rich oral history, capturing what the author calls “a passing phase, a time and mode of life that will come no more,” and provides a window onto the cultural life and folklore of early central Pennsylvania.

Unlocked Book of the Month: Consensus and Debate in Salazar's Portugal
Each month we’re highlighting a book available through PSU Press Unlocked, an open access initiative featuring scholarly digital books and journals in the humanities and social sciences.
Tumblr media
About our September pick:
Ellen Sapega’s study documents artistic responses to images of the Portuguese nation promoted by Portugal’s Office of State Propaganda under António de Oliveira Salazar. Combining archival research with current theories informing the areas of memory studies, visual culture, women’s autobiography, and postcolonial studies, the author follows the trajectory of three well-known cultural figures working in Portugal and its colonies during the 1930s and 1940s. The book begins with an analysis of official Salazarist culture as manifested in two state-sponsored commemorative events: the 1938 contest to discover the “Most Portuguese Village in Portugal” and the 1940 Exposition of the Portuguese-Speaking World. While these events fulfilled their role as state propaganda, presenting a patriotic and unambiguous view of Portugal’s past and present, other cultural projects of the day pointed to contradictions inherent in the nation’s social fabric. In their responses to the challenging conditions faced by writers and artists during this period and the government’s relentless promotion of an increasingly conservative and traditionalist image of Portugal, José de Almada Negreiros, Irene Lisboa, and Baltasar Lopes subtly proposed revisions and alternatives to official views of Portuguese experience. These authors questioned and rewrote the metaphors of collective Portuguese and Lusophone identity employed by the ideologues of Salazar’s Estado Novo regime to ensure and administer the consent of the national populace. It is evident, today, that their efforts resulted in the creation of vital, enduring texts and cultural artifacts.

Unlocked Book of the Month: Falckner's Curieuse Nachricht von Pensylvania
Each month we’re highlighting a book available through PSU Press Unlocked, an open access initiative featuring scholarly digital books and journals in the humanities and social sciences.
Tumblr media
About our August pick:
Originally circulated in Germany, Daniel Falckner’s Curieuse Nachricht von Pensylvania was one in a wave of pamphlets about the American colonies disseminated in Europe during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. It stood alongside influential works by Penn and Pastorius that were circulated among Pietists and other groups to raise awareness in Europe about the practical and spiritual climates in Pennsylvania. Falckner’s pamphlet, in particular, was used in a promotional manner and utilizes a question-and-answer format, addressing everything from how to plan for a voyage to America to common professions for Europeans in the New World, dealings with the native population, seasonal climate, and hundreds of other issues. This translation of Curieuse Nachricht, first published by the Pennsylvania German Society in 1905, includes introductory chapters and annotations by Julius Sachse. The English translation and original German text appear on facing pages, and annotations examine the differences between an original manuscript and the version widely distributed by the Frankfort Company, a group of Pennsylvania land investors, in 1702.
