I dooooo or rather I tryyyyyyy. It's pretty regualr run of the mill smut, and it's absolutley plot driven. I want to get better and feel less awkward while writing it!!

No i do not. I don't really enjoy cross over personally, borrowing other worlds can be well done thought.

No I haven't thankfully!!

No but that would be so cool if it was!! I'd love to see These Cruel Delights translated into either French or German once it's done, but my written language skills in both languages aren't good enough.

100% dialogue. I adore writting dialogue, it's so fun and allows you to build relationships and dynamics. I really want to try my hand at a text fic one day because i feel like it's a great way to build a dialogue only fic.

description and scene building. I feel Like i haven't captured a way to describe a scene in a natural and flowing manner.

The most spectacular of these visits supported the feeling that UC political control of Korea was imminent. In November 1962, the mass media reported the official United States visit of a Korean political figure known as the “Director” [KCIA Director, Kim Jong-pil]. A feature story on Korea and the Director’s visit appearing in a national news magazine said he was the mastermind behind the then current Korean military junta [of Park Chung-hee]. He “provides the ideas, the drive, the plans. By his own immodest but unchallenged statement, [he] is the dominant figure of … [the] ‘revolution.’ ” After talks with high level officials in Washington, the Director spent two days in San Francisco before returning to Korea. He stayed in a luxurious hotel that flew the Korean flag over its main entrance in order to honor his presence.

The day of his arrival, Miss Kim received a phone call from the Director’s aide and interpreter, a Korean army colonel and UC member. He told her that he had arranged an audience with the Director for Miss Kim and her followers. Miss Kim and five core converts appeared at the hotel the next afternoon, where they met another of the Director’s aides, who had only recently converted to the UC. Before entering the Director’s suite, the Koreans conversed excitedly in their native tongue, while American members stood around and giggled with joy. The audience with the Director himself consisted of Miss Kim telling him of her work for the UC in America, after which each local member gave a brief testimony to the UC/Divine Principle’s wonders and how it had changed their lives. The interpreter translated for the converts and for the Director, who continually smiled, nodded, and chain smoked. There were soft drinks, and toward the end of the hour the Director said that he was not a religious man but had great sympathy with UC. He could not help them publicly in Korea, but he would secretly give them a hand whenever possible.

After the audience, the members assembled in the interpreter’s room, where pictures were taken and an air of family festivity reigned.

Dinner talk back in the UC Center focussed on the audience. Miss Kim emphasized that such a meeting was unique and had occurred only because the Director had high regard for his two aides who were UC members. Note was made of the recently converted Colonel being related by marriage to the junta head and thus having direct access to him. The Director’s interpreter, Miss Kim reported, was also his speech writer. When assigned to write a speech, he always got help from a top-ranking person in Moon’s movement in order to give the speeches a Divine Principle slant. Church members had a strong suspicion that the two aides would eventually convert the Director, Kim Jong-pil.

Since Sun Myung Moon was to control the world by 1967, control of his home base [Korea] would certainly come before that time. Although UC members in America were obscure and ignored, even the most skeptical had to agree that, for some months in 1962 at least, Korean control was not a fantasy. Members had access to the people whose conversion could have given them power, if only in a short-lived coup. In any event, after their meeting with the KCIA Director, Kim Jong-pil, members possessed an important sense of being secretly near the center of power in Korea. Was this not testimony to the Unification Church member’s truth [the Divine Principle]?”

A Playlist Titled: Songs Mu-Yeol Would Recommend (anybody but mostly right now, Hatter) To Use As Listening Practice for Korean Learners

Disclaimer: He'd like me to explain that while, for sure, he does like all of these songs, this is not a list of his favorite Korean-language songs exactly. These are just songs he thinks can be useful to test your listening comprehension.

YB - Blue Whale

YB is widely considered to be one of Korea's most iconic bands and Blue Whale one of their signature songs.

"Yoon Do-hyun's voice is really clear," Mu-yeol told Hatter when he suggested it. "You should be able to pick out words you understand. Also, you should just listen to YB in general. And! Their guitarist is randomly some English guy named Scott?"

Roy Kim - Take Me Back In Time

"My brothers actually banned me from being in the room when this song comes on. Because head empty, only 그때로 돌아가 (geu-ddae-ro-dol-a-ka). Anyway." And he absolutely clapped his hands once as he adjusted the position of his legs on the couch.

"Unfortunately, I'll end up telling you to listen to a lot of sad Korean ballads for listening practice. Especially Roy Kim, you can clearly hear each individual syllable, very intentionally. And, Take Me Back In Time is-- David, she's that bitch."

Hatter only nodded, not sure what it means to 'be that bitch.'

BIBI - Bam Yang Gang

"Now that I think about it, your niece probably likes BIBI, she's really popular with K-pop fans right now. But she has a specific song that's really good for Korean-learners. Bam Yang Gang, mmm, there's not really a translation because bam yanggang is a kind of sweet snack. It's a jelly made from chestnuts and red beans." Which. Reminded him!

"Oh! I've never made bam yanggang for you. I will. I love bam yanggang. There's this place by my cousin's house in Daegu, in the city-- which reminds me!" Mu-yeol pointed at him. "Have you finished your passport application yet?"

Cho Yong-pil - Mona Lisa ; and Short Hair

Mu-yeol actually probably first showed Hatter these songs just because he felt like it --- sort of. The first time Hatter heard them was while watching the K-drama Welcome To Samdal-ri, because they were both used pretty prominently.

That drama itself talks a lot about Cho Yong-pil's music, so Mu-yeol around that time made Hatter listen to some Cho Yong-pil bangers. He was super excited to show him what music he grew up listening to at his half-human cousins' house and playing from shop speakers in the city.

"When my family asks you -- because they eventually will-- if you know any Korean music, if I taught you anything about Korean culture, just say '조용필 좋아해요 (Cho Yong-pil joahaeyo)."

Bumjin - A Letter

Mu-yeol would explain that this song has some more complex sentences/clauses in it that can really show you how to use the language beyond very simple sentences!

"Also, it's one of the best songs I've ever heard in any language. Add that to the 'banned from the noraebang' list for me."

Jaurim - I'm Sorry, I Hate You

This is another one Mu-yeol introduces to Hatter just because he likes it. Also, Nemo absolutely grew up listening to Jaurim! They're one of Mu-yeol's favorite bands. Iconic!

"Jaurim is still around, but they were so important in the 90s, at least with my group of friends. A female-fronted rock band in 1990s Korea ,that was huge. My wife loved Jaurim. I'm Sorry, I Hate You is top tier." Mu-yeol explained. "From experience, it's the cure to feeling sad about a bad breakup. At least when I was 22."

The Stray - Moon

(only version i found with eng lyrics so far lol)

This is a song Mu-yeol actually mentions offhand.

"There's this song that makes me cry 9/10 times I hear it. Oh, come to think of it, it's probably also really good to test your listening. Listen to Moon by The Stray sometime and cry."

Shin Hae Chul - To You

This one also came from Hatfish watching K-dramas together<3

To You is featured prominently in Reply 1988, so of course Mu-yeol made him listen to the entire song.

"This is one of those songs that, like, if you're from Korea you know it. Your mom knows it, your dog knows it, everyone. It's kind of like...how you people (British people and Americans) feel about Sweet Caroline. Is that a good reference?" Mu-yeol scrunched up his nose, trying to get in the head of someone his age from the West.

Lucy - Flowering

The chapter in Hatter's Korean book he was on at the same was talking about spring, cherry blossoms, etc, and Mu-yeol was like "listen to Flowering by Lucy and see if you can pick those words out, that's how I tested myself with new vocabulary words with English."

But then he was like, "You're going to be as sick of me talking about Lucy as with The Mountain Goats though. I love that band. One of the best out of Korea right now, and probably one of my favorites."

IKON- Love Scenario

This one came up because of two things: 1. Rolling Stone's list of 100 best K-pop songs of all time that Mu-yeol was reading through on his phone in front of Hatter and bitching about and praising certain choices; and 2. because of the English loanwords Koreanized in the song.

He also thinks it's a really good song to use to study the differences in English grammar vs. Korean grammar, syntax, word order, etc, especially because of the English loanwords in it. And because, while it's a very good song, it's a pop song and pop songs have a reliable repetitive chorus, simple verses -- AND the song is almost entirely in Korean unlike most K-pop songs.

"Like, notice how the word for 'page' is 페이지 (pe-ei-ji), page with another syllable. There's a lot of words like that that are either used daily, or, because of contact with English-language media, Koreans will understand if you say it with their accent. For example, before I knew English well, an American tourist lost his wallet. He was asking for help and when I clearly was confused he went--" and Mu-yeol made like he was drawing a rectangle in the air with his fingers. "-- 'walle-tuh, walle-tuh', and I was like '!!!! oh !!!!' So I'm telling you. With my family, gestures and saying English words in a Korean accent go a long way."

Anyway, stan Love Scenario as a study tool.

Hoppipola - Enough

"I know I say this about every sad Korean song I tell you about, but I really mean it, this is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard."

He says that the lyrics in this song are really good to pick out negative sentences like "don't say you love me" "don't lie to reassure me", etc, you hear how they're different.

"If you ever just see tears streaming down my face for no reason, it's because I so much as THOUGHT about this song."

Nell (넬) - Time Spent Walking Through Memories (기억을 걷는 시간)

Nell is a bad that's been popular for like, the last 20 years or so within Korea! Mu-yeol likes them a lot, and had absolutely made Hatter listen to them in general, but he mentioned / will mention this song specifically when Hatter gets to learning adverbs like "still" and "already."

"This song uses those words a lot, you'll notice them."

"I work as an editor on the publishing team for the Korean edition of The Upper Room. I edit the Korean translation of the devotional guide so that our readers may comprehend it with ease.

Over the years we’ve distributed the Korean edition to many readers for free, especially individuals in hospitals, military camps, and prisons. A few years ago a generous donor began supporting our effort to distribute The Upper Room to multiple prisons across South Korea.

One day at work, I received a call from a person saying he was moved by the message of the devotional guide and asking where to buy it. I asked him, “How did you get to know The Upper Room?” He replied, “A few days ago I was released from prison, where I often read it.”

After the call I was overcome with emotion and could hardly say a word. I gave thanks that our efforts and the donor’s good intentions were bearing fruit. I don’t know what that caller’s life has been like, but I firmly believe that his life will be better than before and closer to God with The Upper Room as a companion." Reading these Upper Room devotionals can make a lot of change among those reading. It plants a tiny seed of information and that can spur on further reading. I enjoy the devotionals each and every day.
