Humanity is amazing. I love how diverse people and cultures are.

I was reading a story and when a character in it sang, the listeners in the story all commented on how apparent it was that she'd been trained in Chinese opera. And I was curious as to what the hallmarks are of Chinese opera singers. With European opera singers, you can immediately tell that they're trained when they sing because they'll vibrato the heck out of everything and sing from deep in the diaphragm unless they are trying REALLY, REALLY hard not to. So what makes somebody immediately recognizable as having trained in Chinese opera?

So I did what any self-respecting person does these days and did a search for Chinese opera. I clicked on the first video link and it was a subtitled aria. And folks, I spent the first few minutes wondering who was singing and why they were focusing the video on the dancer instead. And then I watched two more videos of different singers to be sure. And my mind was blown. Because at least in the Peking opera tradition, the women BARELY MOVE THEIR LIPS while singing. They are the ULTIMATE ventriloquists. It's amazing and blows my mind because it is the exact opposite of how European-style singing is taught, where you start out by learning how to exaggerate all of your mouth movements in order to get clear tones and then are slowly walked back into something not quite as cartoonish looking.

(Regarding how to tell if somebody is a classically trained Chinese opera singers, from what I can tell the singing was all focused around their noses, which is a very cool method that sounds very strange to me right now but will probably sound very beautiful once I get used to it. So I'm guessing that the character in the story focused her voice to her nose the way a European opera singer would focus her voice to her diaphragm.)

If anybody knows better how to describe this or what the actual hallmarks of Chinese opera singers are or if I just randomly got lucky by watching three different women sing without moving their lips, please respond!

and also if u think ur useless, jst think, if everyones life was a book you would be mentioned in SO many books !!!!!! i may not read but still, if characters are mentioned in pretty sure thwyre usually important, also u have been included in so many peoples character developments and if u didnt exist then everyones life would be different.... some may be worse cuz no matter what, someone has thought about you as a friend or someone cool at least once, if someone removed that part of their book, even if it was jst a few sentences its still a big difference !!!!!!

I know I missed yesterday's expression-drawing, but I have a good reason!! I was celebrating my grandmother's 70th birthday, and I got home at like 22:00 TTvTT

Either way, here's day two of drawing a new expression each day! :D

Today's character is enjoying the sunlight ^-^

I tried to put some more thought into the rendering this time, and I think I did alright!

I'm super happy with how his hair turned out, I had a lot of fun with it and I think it looks really cool :]

(I might be a little biased towards rat-tails and mullets though bahahaha)

By the way, constructive criticism and suggestions on which expressions I should draw are very welcome! I don't know if I've mentioned this already, ignore it if I have ^-^

ALRIGHT! rant time

Humans are so interesting and diverse and cool. I find the fact that you can experience culture shock in your own country amazing. Like "whoa, these guys do things differently, I wonder where we split in history" it's like so cool, and that's not even getting into OTHER countries, like, it's so interesting.

For instance, a domestic example, I'm from Florida, people in Vermont like, haven't even heard of sweet iced tea. It's so neat because like, it's a key part of my culture (I use that term loosely because United States culture anywhere is down to whomever populated the area and from where) and they haven't even heard of it. It's so cool that can happen

BOTTOM LINE: humans are neat, and diverse, and that's so awesome
