Editar y hacer libros de arte es también un acto de resistencia generador de comunidad. Virginia López presenta PACAbooks (proyecto editorial independiente realizado en el marco de PACA_Proyectos Artísticos Casa Antonino.) Dianora Pérez, artista venezolana actualmente en residencia en PACA gracias a la colaboración de la Fundación Sala Mendoza (Caracas) y de la Embajada de España en Venezuela, nos hablará de la editorial “PERversiones”, libros para desmemoriados, libros del compromiso en los que la víctima es sujeto histórico.

BIO
Caracas, 1981. Profesora Artes Plásticas en UPEL – IPC, Caracas, 2008. Actualmente cursante del Doctorado en Cultura y Arte para América Latina y el Caribe en la misma casa de estudios. Magister en Artes Plásticas, UPEL-IPC, Caracas, 2015. En 2014 realiza estudios de Edición de la UCV, Caracas, Venezuela, y entre los años 2012 y 2015 realiza algunos talleres con el Maestro Nelson Garrido, Juan Toro, Majob Parabavis, Nancy Urosa, entre otros.
Inicia su carrera expositiva en el 2002.Entre sus muestras individuales más recientes se mencionan PERversiones Fundación Sala Mendoza, Caracas, 2018; Despotismo Ilustrado, Caracas-Barquisimeto 2018; y entre las últimas muestras colectivas se encuentra Arte y sociedad, jóvenes creadores venezolanos Caracas – Venezuela, 2018; Edición Premio Mendoza #14. Caracas – Venezuela, 2016 -2017; 10 Edición Salón Octubre Joven. Museo de Valencia – Venezuela, 2016; 3ra Bienal de gráfica en homenaje a Alirio Palacios. Museo del Diseño y la Estampa Carlos Cruz Diez. Caracas, 2016; 40° Nacional de Arte Aragua. Edo. Aragua – Venezuela 2015 – 2016. Ha sido merecedora de: Mención Honorifica, en Edición Premio Mendoza #14, Caracas, 2017; Premio en la categoría Libro de Artista en la 3ra Bienal de gráfica en homenaje a Alirio Palacios Caracas, 2017; Ganadora del XX Salón Jóvenes con FIA, Maracaibo, 2017, Ganadora del premio Goethe Institut Caracas, Salón Arte y Sociedad, Carcas 2018, Ganadora de la Mención Artista Emergente Embajada de España otorgada en Edición Premio Mendoza #15 Caracas, 2019.

The 58th Venice Biennale opens to the public on May 11th and runs until November 24, 2019. Here, we share the artists who will be showing in Venice this year, from those who are included in the international exhibition to those who will represent countries in national pavilions in the Giardini, Arsenale, and across the city. Los ciclos del agua y su disponibilidad resultan drásticamente modificados por los efectos del cambio climático y la contaminación, entre otros fenómenos de origen antropogénico que están provocando graves alteraciones de los ecosistemas. Con ocasión de la inauguración de Contracorriente, Mind Revolution (dúo de artistas sonoros formado por Eugenia Tejón y Ángel González) presentará su proyecto “El Nalón”: obra fonográfica, realizada exclusivamente con grabaciones de campo sin manipular, resultado de dos años de trabajo buscando sonidos y testimonios a lo largo de los 138 Km del río asturiano. “El Nalón” ha sido editado en el 2016 por Ediciones Lea (incluye CD, libreto con guía de audición y fotografía firmada por Emma Bi en papel de algodón de 320 g.) Seguirá un encuentro con Santiago Doljanin, artista audiovisual y sonoro actualmente en residencia en PACA, cuya instalación ambiente “Sólidos” -expuesta recientemente en el museo Termas Romanas de Campo Valdés (Gijón), dejaba suspensa en el espacio, una piedra y varias preguntas: ¿Qué pasaría si la tierra quedase sin hielo? ¿Cómo aferrar e incorporar procesos complejos, hiper objetos como nuestro planeta tierra y el calentamiento global?

Ayer estuvimos con @pazgonzalezmesa en su taller, que es más que eso, un proyecto de vida compartida con Xandro, un micromundo en el que todo tiene sentido, un saber hacer desde el amor a la tradición y al patrimonio cultural asturiano. @diana__baumbach tenía muchas ganas de conocer la oveja xalda y el trabajo de Paz desde la primera vez que le hablé de este proyecto antes de que llegara. Ir allí es encontrar hospitalidad, amor y trabajo, también a Armando Graña con su genial desencanto, vecindad ésta suertuda y entre afines! Así marchó Diana con lana de xalda jóven y vieya, que como todos van mudando color. Hoy su olor reconforta el taller de PACA. Gracias Paz!

Mónica Montes Artista e Investigadora prácticas del programa de máster A.P.S. (Atelier Pratiques Situées / Taller sobre practicas situadas) en ERG School for Graphic Research. Bruxelas. Periodo de residencia en PACA: Junio-julio 2023
Mónica, en una búsqueda permanente de experimentación ha explorado otras disciplinas como el diseño gráfico, la fotografía, el estilismo, para posteriormente proseguir con el vídeo. Ha colaborado en varios proyectos audiovisuales, en particular con Julie Goldsteinas en el marco de una residencia multidisciplinar para HOURVARI, un laboratorio escénico en La Fabrique de Théâtre (Frameries); y en performances visuales con el dúo de músicos Floèmee. Actualmente está desarrollando su tesis en torno al arte como práctica espiritual, y más concretamente el estudio de la luz (los colores) física, simbólica y filosóficamente. Estas intersecciones y afinidades en las líneas de trabajo, el color, la espiritualidad, la relación con los lugares, la experimentación-intuición-investigación, han propiciado que Mónica se interesara por nuestro proyecto y que nosotros tengamos tantas ganas de acogerla.

Each artist arrives with her own research and work. Each person therefore needs a different approach to the context, from different perspectives and connections. We have started talking about recreation of the ideal peasant or rural pastoral, with the bourgeois class dressing in traditional costumes or (nothing to do with real peasant everyday clothes)... about regionalism, nationalism, folklore, building identity... These weeks Diana will be working around traditional costume in Asturias, raw materials, vegetal fibers, wool, linen, natural dying with our Isatis tinctoria, talking about teitos, ways of waiving, warp and weft, making cebatu... visits and synergies will emerge!!.

La obra de Diana Baumbach tiene sus raíces en el acto del trabajo manual y la práctica diaria. Explora las intersecciones entre el arte, la artesanía y la vida cotidiana. El proceso y la materialidad son centrales en su trabajo. Diana emplea acciones repetitivas, a veces obsesivas, como perforar, coser y doblar para generar patrones. Los patrones apelan al deseo humano de encontrar orden, sin embargo, cuando están hechos a mano, resaltan la tensión entre la repetición y el error. Diana construye patrones mediante el desarrollo de un gesto simple que se vuelve automático con el tiempo. Acciones repetitivas, lo doméstico, la mujer. Diana considera que el hogar es un espacio generativo en el que se desarrollan trabajos y habilidades importantes, pero que a menudo permanecen ocultos e infravalorados. Como observa Lucy Lippard, «lo que popularmente se considera ‘repetitivo’, ‘obsesivo’ y ‘compulsivo’ en el arte de las mujeres es, de hecho, una necesidad para aquellas cuyo tiempo se encuentra en pocos metros cuadrados».

BIO. Originally from Oak Park, IL (USA), Diana Baumbach earned her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis (2003) and her MFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (2007). She has had recent solo exhibitions at the University of South Carolina, Colorado State University, Arte Mare (Finland) and Naropa University. Diana has undertaken public art projects in the US and the Netherlands, mainly geared towards young audiences. She received two Visual Art Fellowships from the Wyoming Arts Council (2015, 2021) after receiving Honorable Mention three times (2011, 2013 and 2014). She recently spent a year in Finland where she was an artist in residence at Stundars Museum and Novia University. Diana was formerly an Associate Professor and Foundations Coordinator at the University of Wyoming and is currently an Assistant Professor and Director of Galleries at the University of Maine.

Contracorriente /Against the Tide es un proyecto INNER NATURE EXHIBITION (Muestra Internacional de Videoarte y Ecología), en el que PACA está participando como espacio colaborador. En su 3ª edición se plantea como una muestra internacional itinerante a partir de una convocatoria abierta organizada por el Centro de Investigación Arte y Entorno de la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, centrada en esta edición en los problemas y oportunidad que plantea la gestión del agua hoy en día. La obras seleccionadas han formado parte de la exposición itinerante que inició en el IVAM de Valencia y que ha seguido por diversos centros, universidades y galerías a lo largo del 2017-2018. Están participando en la muestra los siguientes centros y galerías:

– CCANW (Center for Contemporary Art and the Natural World, Totnes, UK)
