I'd like to share a little story about my son that's just a small part of what it's all meant to me.

I joined the fandom in 2014, a year after my youngest son was born. He didn't speak at the time he was "supposed" to be speaking, wasn't hitting all his developmental milestones, and was then diagnosed at a very young age as being on the autism spectrum.

Being a One Direction fan brought music back into my home in a major way. I'd been so busy with my career and becoming a mom that my love for music had been phased out in my life. But One Direction brought it roaring back in.

When my son was two, he was watching the Best Song Ever video...one of his favorites. It's fun and brightly colored and silly, and it made sense why he loved it. He started pointing to each one of the boys and said some of his first ever words, their names.

Youie. Ni-yaw. Hay-ee. Yum-Yum. Zack. (Sorry Zayn, blame the video)

Music opened up a way for my son to communicate. It has always been a major force in his life. He is eleven now, and he plays the drums and the violin and according to his older brother talks way too much.

I could never truly explain what this band has meant to my life and to my son. But I'll always be so grateful they burst into our life right when we needed them.

Thank you, Yum-Yum. I wish I could have told you what you meant to us, but I hope you somehow knew anyway.

He does! He brags about Timmy's success to every person within the neighborhood's vicinity. Mr. Turner loves how successful his son is! It really secures his reputation at the neighborhood HOA meetings they host at their house.

Timmy's worked very hard to gain more successes than failures. The more successful he is, the greater his family's social standing!! And the less he gets to overhear his dad ranting to the neighborhood about his failures.

🥽 Personally, how I see it, becoming a father is probably the last thing on JD's to-do list. I mean he's definitely got the skills (being the oldest of five and having to raise his brothers means he's picked up a few things), and I like to think that it's something he longs for deep down, but considering how BADLY he fumbled with his brothers the last time they were all in the same room...

🥽 So yeah. In theory would be SO down to start a family of his own, but in practice?? He is EXTREMELY hesitant

🥽 THAT BEING SAID!! Chances are he probably found you as an egg

🥽 He was out one day, hiking out in the forest or exploring coastal coves or rock climbing, when all of a sudden he just… stumbles across an egg. Just sitting there in a patch of moss or nestled into a log

🥽 Ends up taking the egg with him back to Ronda, but not before an actual HOUR of confused staring? Distressed pacing back and forth?? Panicked rambling all the while???

🥽 (the fact that Ronda tried to eat the egg upon his return doesn't help at all)

🥽 John Dory spends the next month or so visiting nearby troll villages and asking anyone who crosses his path "Hey man did you drop this? 😬"

🥽 In the end he decides to take you in himself. Partly because he's gotten tired of all the looks other trolls keep giving him for trying to force an egg into their hands, and also because he… may have grown attached to said egg in the past few weeks. I mean by the end of day 3 he'd already given you a name so you know he's screwed ahsjkakaa

🥽 He tells himself he's taking you in because it's what any good citizen would do (He is a lair. He is 100% doing it for himself)

🥽 The day you hatch is LITERALLY one of the best days of his life? Like he's just making himself some dinner and suddenly he hears crackling coming from his hair?? And then there's babbling???

🥽 This man is going about his day with you nestled in his hair (basically the troll equivalent to carrying a baby on your hip lol). He's choppin trees, foraging for food, and driving his armadillo van all while he's got an actual egg sitting on his head. Absolutely talks to you the whole time, too. He has no idea if you can actually hear him but like.. this man spent the last 20 years all alone in the woods, okay, his ass is lonely :((

🥽 Most definitely tries to teach you survival skills as soon as possible. He's teaching you how to fish, he's demonstrating how to start a fire with the bare essentials, he's letting you DRIVE RONDA—

🥽 Defnitely tries to reel in that controlling/perfectionist mindset of his, at least for your sake. The last thing he wants is a repeat of what went down with his brothers. As a result he's probably more lenient when you get into trouble or do something wrong

He's using Ronda to (break speed limits, run people over, disobey every known traffic rule) get good parking at the venue!!

🥽 SPEAKING OF CONCERTS!! I feel like he'd be able to offer solid advice on the do's and don'ts of attending a concert. Like... my guy was in a popular band back in the day and he knows first hand how outta hand concerts can get. He has SEEN some shit ajskskaka

🥽 JD definitely has a photo album full of pictures from back in the day. Some of them are snapshots of him and the rest of Brozone, but a majority of the pictures are just of him and his family— away from the stage and cameras. Just him and his brothers and grandma Rosiepuff too...

🥽 He remembers the exact moment every picture was taken, and he'll tell you every bit of context. Birthday, pranks gone wrong, holidays, first day of school— there's a snapshot for just about every milestone. All you have to do is ask and JD is more than happy to relay every childhood anecdote he can remember

The Syd Poll

the topic of this poll is one that is frequently avoided in the pink floyd fandom, but inevitably one we all consider – our individual views on what we think caused syd's psychological struggles (and by extension, led to his departure from the band). I think that – at least in this neighborhood of tumblr – this is a conversation we are capable of having in a way that is civil, nuanced, and at least minimally disrespectful to syd.

Snail Life Update

So, I'm a lot sicker than I initially thought I was. I'll be a little slower in fic production than I normally am, so please bear with me. More under the cut, but don't feel obligated to read if you don't want to. Probably an overshare on my part (medical TMI), but I thought I'd keep those of you interested in the loop. Love you 🐌🖤.

I noticed some pain in my shoulder back in early April, used it to write the "Kind and Gentle" fic for Benn Beckman, because we know that man would bring comfort when you're hurting.

Chef-husband kindly said a couple of days ago that I looked like shit and should probably see a doctor. Went to the doctor, they sent me for an emergency ultrasound to my shoulder and armpit, and they found a big ol' nasty clot in my veins. It's close enough to my chest to raise concerns, but no need to operate at this stage. Not in any danger of travelling to my lungs, so that's all good there.

They also found something concerning in my breast, so I get to chuck my boobies in a sandwich press to see what's going on there in the upcoming week. Breast cancer isn't common in my family, and I'm hoping the doctor is just a little bit of an overreactor. Treating it with heavy antibiotics, waiting for further ultrasounds and x-rays on the other stuff they found, and being a little loopy through the pain with vertigo, feeling both hot and cold at the same time.

The vein feels like I've hit my funny-bone really, really hard and it's shot all the way up my arm and to my chest, leaving a trail of ice-cold lightning-fire in its wake. Not the worst pain I've ever experienced, but not overall pleasant.

Getting asks and interaction from here has really helped me through the pain - as has been talking with my mutuals about life. Dealing with it with a smile while spreading joy with my words in fics has been my way of coping.

If you've read this far, thank you. Probably a bit of an overshare on my part, so I'm sorry if you've read and it's made you uncomfortable. Bit scary hearing the "C" word (not the Aussie term of endearment, the other one) when you've got two little kids and a husband who's still recovering from his own broken shoulder.

the frequent bathroom breaks....

oh those details. ok, i will put it below the cut and you open on your own risk, because it's concerning all drivers and it's not just fun and games (yes he was also serious for once)

so. it all started with charles asking for a bathroom break during one free practice session (or was it quali?) during japanese gp last year. that's not an unusual occurence for him, which the comms of course were well aware of (as well as fans apparently) and they decided to comment on it and add a personal perspective.

so besides 1. having a normal weak bladder 2. drinking lots of fluids and 3. literally trying to get lighter (these f1 drivers smh) according to Pepa Král (Ferrari driver in GT3, commentator and racing mentor and as he started his monologue about Charles' reproductive organs, also a "father of 2 beautiful healthy girls") the way Charles often visits a bathroom can also have a different reason.

the position of a driver in f1 car's cockpit is just about following (my pic from the f1 exhibition in vienna):

across their shoulders, there go two straps of the seatbelt leading to their crotch where they get additional two straps to hold them on both sides of their thighs (as far as i know they are 6 points seatbelts now but it varied from 5 to 7). according to the comm, it can get rather uncomfy for some drivers as the harness on both sides of their jewels squeezes and releases repeatedly: especially when coming into a turn, when stepping on the pedals (to be fair he specifically mentioned braking pedal) or when your car is porpoising (then he went on a little rant about his prostate as well but please don't force me to recollect that info). apparently the worst feeling of need comes with that feeling of the straps releasing you for a second and with the repeated motion of squeeze and release. the bigger you are the worse this affects you - or so he claims but there was a joke that... he wouldn't know how it feels for the guys on the bigger side so yeah 😬

there was short mention of the heat inside the cockpit and closeness to the engine as the hot part of the car and how it's linked to male fertility (which doesn't concern him as he gladly pointed out at the start) which again, i'd rather not get into <3

TLDR: he is too big to be comfy in the harness and the car is trying to milk him when driving
