Good morning, Vietnam: Second hand
Good morning, Vietnam ahem, Outlander Fandom,
It is a rainy morning somewhere in Eastern Europe and I thought it was high time for a new audio:
I also think it's high time to remember a simple, common sense thing, really.
When a second hand player utters something outrageous, relayed by second hand trolls, the only logical reaction to it must be second hand embarrassment.
All we know (?) until now is that June Brunette went ballistic on some Antis/Onlys who took things a step too far across the discernment line and engaged with her. Who in their right mind would do such a thing? Who, aged 12 and above, would expect an honest answer or reliable info out of it?
Nothing consistent of those heated exchanges has emerged yet. Across the street, they suddenly play the #silly mimosa pudica game: let's be respectful and let's, by the same token and by all means, ventilate shit to oblivion, in the guise of 'well thought' posts. With NO substantial evidence. Funny, that.
What do we have, ultimately? A rude woman, whose claim to fame is her ambition to enlighten The World about the difference between deodorants and antiperspirants (I shit you not). And two clueless idiots, who should get a life ASAP and not go meddle their nose in someone else's Obvious Crap.
Even if she told such suicidal things as 'he hates all his fans' or ' he's mine and he'll never be yours' to those Two Convenient Imbeciles, that does not mean S told her that, either. If only because all wallets are, after all, created equal, as I often say. If only because his business projects are still not mature enough as to be entirely emancipated of the Mommies' Booze Mafia. And finally, if only because Seasons 7B and 8 are still to be broadcast and, therefore, show must go on.
I am officially buying popcorn. Let's see how long she remains relevant, after all this tiny shitstorm. Bets?
PS: you may or may not hear Baby the Lab strongly agreeing with me. Not even sorry for that ;).

!!UPDATED!! Murder Drones/Half-Life AU character bios
Welcome, welcome to City 9, one of our finest urban centers on Copper 17!
~ Citizens ~
Any worker drone that is not part of the resistance, and is not conscripted into the Combine. Live openly in the city under the harsh rule of the Combine, disassembly drones watching their every step, scanning for even the slightest sign of disobedience.
~ The Combine ~
Disassembly drones, basically. Except for metropolice who are worker drones who choose to work for them. All drones converted into DDs have their memories wiped entirely. The only exceptions to this are J, V, and N for who still have their memories but they are suppressed.
Design- They still have most of the canonical built-in weapons like claws, SMGs, blades, missiles, and B E A M. And they still adorn their signature “X” on their visors while fighting but they also have it while working in general, they mainly turn it off in casual situations. (Metrocops will adorn the “X” as well) Disassembly drones now come in different color schemes depending on their rank and role. (Look at Humanoid Combine Units for references) And they all(including metrocops) wear partial gas masks over their mouths(these are removable)!
Air Defense - Bigger and reinforced wings, stakes attached to the backs of their ankles that they can protrude downwards for anchoring to trees n such. In exchange for being able to fly for long periods of time, their bodies are not as armored so that they are lighter, making flight require less energy.
Land Defense - Digitigrade legs with goat hooves for agility and optimal ability to traverse varying terrain(and because I said so.) Smaller wings and their bodies are very reinforced for close-combat. Can only fly for short periods of time but they can glide.
Tessa James Elliott - Puppet Leader - Role: Dr. Breen The only known human left alive after the destruction of Earth and the Copper 17 core collapse. She managed to negotiate with the Absolute Solver to keep the worker drones alive and was appointed leader of the Combine on this planet. She remains in the Citadel and communicates with Cyn who tells her what to do whenever necessary.
Weapons/Tools: - Revolver - Sword - Wrench
Serial Designation J - Combine Operative(Commander) Relays orders to large groups of disassembly drones, can operate most Combine machinery, makes sure things are running smoothly, and speaks directly with Tessa. She mainly sticks around guarding the Citadel, if something(such as an uprising) threatens it and Combine control she will come to strike them down in nearly an instant. She isn’t as built for close-combat battle, she is able to fly very quickly but not for as long as air defense. Can drive APCs and pilot Hunter Choppers.
Weapons/Tools: - Disassembly Drone Stuff (Some listed weapons may be built-in) - Revolver - Grenades - Tau Cannon - Laser tripmines
Serial Designation N - Elite of Combine Air Defense He follows/leads hunter choppers or he can pilot hunter choppers. He is specifically designed for long flights and in-flight combat. Despite his higher position, he’s not very respected due to lacking intelligence and frequent hesitation causing more trouble than usually necessary.
Weapons/Tools: - Disassembly Drone Stuff (Some listed weapons may be built-in) - Pulse Rifle - Can deploy manhacks
Serial Designation V - Soldier of Combine Land Defense She guards the borders of Combine territories, making sure no unwelcome creatures from the outlands get inside the city.. Also sometimes deployed to guard places like Nova Prospekt. She is mainly designed to be able to traverse various terrain, she is still able to fly in short bursts and gliding. She can also drive APCs, set up mounted guns and turrets.
Weapons/Tools: - Disassembly Drone Stuff (Some listed weapons may be built-in) - Shotgun - Crossbow - Grenades - Hoppers - Can deploy roller mines
~ The Resistance ~
Worker drones who have decided to rebel against the Combine, refusing to submit to their abuse. However, since the death of their previous leader, Nori Doorman, their movement has been dormant. As Khan decided that everyone should go into hiding in the bunker for the sake of their daughter(him and Nori's).
Yeva - Deceased Was almost just as important to the resistance as Nori, playing a large role in getting them out of the city. Unfortunately she was killed by V along with her husband not long after the uprising fell.
Weapons/Tools: - Absolute Solver powers - Revolver - Pulse Rifle - Can hack roller mines
Nori Doorman - Former Leader(dead?) - Role: Gordon Freeman The initial starter of the resistance movement, which actually got pretty far. But it came to an abrupt end when she reached the Citadel walls and alerted J to the scene, killing Nori and many of those by her side just before they could make their final push.. At least everyone is pretty sure she’s dead?
Weapons/Tools: - Absolute Solver powers - Uzi (the gun, not her daughter) - Crowbar - S.L.A.Ms
Khan Doorman - Current Leader - Role: Eli Vance After Nori's death, he decided it was best to go into hiding with his daughter, fearing the Combine would begin hunting for them even more aggressively than they did before. He is also developing a patch for the absolute solver in secret, originally for his wife but now he hopes he can save his daughter.
Weapons/Tools: - Wrench - Pistol - Shotgun
Uzi Doorman - Role: Alyx Vance + Gordon Freeman Infuriated by her father’s cowardice for stalling the resistance movement, believing it nullifies everything her mother worked for. She wants to finish the job her mother started, and she will end up doing just that with the help of an unusual disassembly drone named N.
Weapons/Tools: - Crowbar (Nori’s) - Railgun (From the show) - Alyx’s gun (Modified Pistol) - RPG (Rocket Launcher) - Gravity Gun - S.L.A.Ms - EMP Tool - Absolute Solver powers (acquired much later)
Thad - Metrocop - Role: Barney Calhoun He’s another metrocop but he’s not in on Doll’s scheme. He’s just a metrocop for spying and it’s just useful to have rebel drones who can use Combine tech. But.. no one’s seen him in a while..
Weapons/Tools: - Disassembly drone headband (A headband with the 5 small extra eyes that disassembly drones have. Unlike actual DDs tho, the headband is only wired into the head instead of welded) - Gloves with retractable blades (Wolverine hands basically, when the user makes a fist, 3 blades protrude from their knuckles) - Booster Boots (Increase user’s agility and jump height, also protect the user from fall-related injury) - Extra arm & Leg armor (To look more like the disassembly drones and protect those limbs as they will NOT regenerate) - Partial Gasmask (same as DD’s) - Stun Baton - Pistol - SMG - Baseball Bat
~ Ambiguous Alliance ~
Who these drones are allied with or what they stand for isn't quite known.
Alice - Role: Father Grigori ??????
Doll - Double agent, Spy on the Resistance - Role: Dr. Mossman (Mitchell HDTF) Lives in the bunker with the resistance. She seems to have some kind of deal going with J to provide information and in return protection from the Combine. Promising to retrieve the patch from Khan, in exchange for protection and being able to avenge her parents by killing V.
Weapons/Tools: - Absolute Solver powers - Metal Pipe - Revolver
Lizzy - Triple agent, Metrocop Works for Doll, doesn’t know her entire scheme but she goes along with whatever Doll tells her anyways. Like joining the metropolice under the guise of being a spy on the Combine, but to the Combine she claims to be a spy on the resistance and giving them information to back it up. Can set up turrets and mounted guns.
Weapons/Tools: - Disassembly drone headband - Gloves with retractable blades - Booster Boots - Extra arm & Leg armor - Partial Gasmask - Stun baton - Pistol - Sniper Rifle
Cyn - True leader of the Combine - Role: G-Man + Overwatch No one but J knows there is someone above Tessa pulling all the strings. She let Tessa live, making her leader and assigned J, N, and V their ranks, allowing them all keep their memories as long as they stayed in line.
Weapons/Tools: - Absolute Solver
~ Outland Creatures ~
Eldritchs - Disassembly drones who’ve been damaged beyond what their regeneration is capable of fixing, requiring material from outside sources. Sometimes this is viable, but usually it is advised to just destroy eldritchs immediately as they will violently massacre and destroy anything that contains the material it needs, even other disassembly drones. These beings take on many forms and can create very convincing holograms of those they kill to lure prey, so one should never approach random figures in the outlands.
Note: because of this, disassembly drones have a fail-safe trigger that disables regeneration if it detects a certain amount of weight lost. (indicating severe damage that could lead to becoming eldritch.) Of course this fail-safe can fail to trigger or trigger unnecessarily(falsely detecting significant weight loss) sometimes.
Heartcrabs - The cores of disassembly drones and solver-afflicted drones that can no longer return to their bodies(likely entirely destroyed). Similar to the eldritchs, they may start looking for a new body by attacking living drones; this doesn’t work well and creates aggressive zombie-like drones.
Anti-Drone Sentinels - Quick, aggressive robotic raptors that emit bright flashes of light to boot-loop any drone who looks at it, rendering them immobile until a reboot can be done. They move in packs in the outlands, it’s rumored a few drones have learned how to tame them.
Do not be afraid to send questions my way about this AU! I am always itching to ramble :D

LOVESICK (part 1) - Wanna Fight, Princess? next >
Though it takes months upon months, Vitani and Kiara become quite close.
Once the Outlanders had settled in the Pridelands, Vitani had initially been standoffish, preferring to either stick close to her former squadron or patrol the borders of the Pridelands by herself. Loathe as she was to keep away from her brother -- her only family now -- being around the royal family caused her hackles to raise involuntarily. It did nothing to quell King Simba’s leftover anxieties over how trustworthy the daughter of his enemy was but she needed time, they all knew; to spend your life as a pawn to a warmonger, preparing to overthrow a kingdom, and then end up making peace and living in said kingdom is no easy task.
It all changed with the concern of who would fill the position of Lion Guard in Kion's stead. All the creatures of the Pridelands were called to the Rock to seek council and discuss. It was an open forum and anyone was allowed to offer their suggestions. As King Simba would mention in his preamble to the meeting, his father would hold meetings like this so the lower subjects would not feel alienated in his reign.
Like clockwork, they gathered in the center of the plain, the royal family lying upon a flat rock, lions of their court around them, the elephants in the back and allowing smaller creatures to rest upon them, baboons and their babies nestled into trees alongside giraffes. The buffalo rest by the watering hole, the hippos poking their heads over the water’s surface, keeping cool as they listen, and the zebra and antelope graze all the while.
Vitani had never seen so much prey in one place, but contrary to seemingly popular belief, she’s no mongrel. She chose to linger in the back, feeling out of place in the communal crowd and hardly listening to them all babble on and on.
It was only when Kiara spoke up that her attention was caught. "What about Vitani?"
Creatures of all sizes turned towards her. Vitani, startled, bared her teeth out of instinct. "What about me?"
The prey around her trembled at her hostile response, but Kiara was unphased; in fact, she smiled. "Well, I figure if there's anyone who's up to protecting the Pridelands, it'd be you. I always see you out there diligently patrolling the border."
The Pridelanders couldn't help but agree. While initially stubbornly reluctant to fill such a highly spoken-of position, even Vitani had to admit: being the Pridelands' protector gave her something to do that felt satisfyingly familiar.
King Simba, placing an overwhelming amount of trust in his daughter, gave his blessing in the decision; the job was hers from then on, but she couldn’t do it alone. Her Guard needed the strongest, fastest, bravest, and keenest-of-sight she could find and there was no group better equipped for these positions as her old squadron.
They all took to it quite quickly. It seems they were feeling similarly out of place in the aftermath of the war. Imara, with her newfound strength from her weight gain after finally finding sufficient food, impressed the Pridelanders with her ability to carry so many of them out of harm’s way. Kasi, eager to use her skills from her days as the team’s scout, rivaled Fuli, her predecessor, in her record speeds to relay information between trouble and the Guard. Shabaha found the life of a simple subject to be rather boring and was at last able to achieve the thrills she’d missed from her days in the Outlands. And Tazama, once trained to be an observant lookout, felt satisfaction in her usefulness to the kingdom, in a way that was far less murderous and risky.
They already had the advantage of knowing how to work as a unified team. As the Guard, they prospered far more than before.
And so, slowly, Vitani began to open up more. Protecting the lands put her in everyone's good graces; she was no longer a soldier, but a guardian.
This also meant reporting closely to Kiara. King Simba was emboldened from his daughter’s vouching of Vitani and placed her in charge of the Guard’s operations. The princess, strange creature that she is, seemed more than happy to have a way to keep in contact with Vitani, even to the point of becoming… friends .
Vitani had always found her to be odd. Pretty. But odd. Before she’d assumed Kiara was a ditz, just a royal with shit for brains who understood nothing of life’s realities and was easy enough to trick into being a cog in her mother’s plan; but when she and Kovu ended the war by force, all her assumptions were dashed instantly.
She leaned into it. Kiara was kind. Though the royal family might have given her the creeps sometimes, Vitani had no reason to think she held any animosity toward her, especially Kovu at her side.
As their relationship slowly transitioned from friendly at work to friends before and after work, it was strangely easy to lie in the sun with her, chat about their days, and even groom one another, just as the other lions do.
Which leads them to now.
As per usual after the day’s work is done, the pair of them are stretched out together on a grassy strip and enjoying the warm sunset. Conversation had metered out into content silent.
Beyond comfortable in the dirt, her arms and paws satisfyingly sore from evening patrol, Vitani can’t help but linger on the fact that she no longer feels the anxiety she used to feel in the Pridelands. Things changed entirely without her even realizing.
Vitani asks, "Hey. Can I ask you something?"
Kiara looks over and gave that bright, playful smile of hers. "You just did."
"Aw, shut up."
Kiara giggles. Vitani can't help but crack her own grin. "Sorry, sorry. Go ahead."
“You remember the council meeting from a couple seasons ago? The one where they were discussing who’d lead the Lion Guard.”
“Yeah?”
“Why’d you vouch for me then?”
Surprised for a moment, Kiara quickly sobers and sits up from her supine position. "Oh. Well...I mean, I meant what I said. There's really no one I could think of that'd be better for the job than you."
"But we didn't know each other then. Not like now." The princess has a way with getting people to open up to her.
"True, but Kovu had told me a lot about you."
Kovu. Right. Vitani's throat tightens for a reason unknown to her.
Kiara continues, eyes searching Vitani's, "He's told me about how strong you are and how you took care of him when no one else could. You were at the forefront of Zira's army."
Vitani breaks eye contact to swipe at some pebbles in front of her. "Ain't exactly a good thing, Princess."
"What I mean is, you're experienced in both leading a group and extending that paw of guardianship.”
Vitani grumbles, brushing off the accolade. She shouldn’t have asked.
Kiara examines her for longer before smiling a tad cheekily.
“You wanna know something? You act all cool and tough and mysterious, but at this point, I think I've got you pegged, Vitani."
Vitani raises a brow, something of a thrill rolling over the fur on her back. "Oh, you do , do you?"
Kiara leans in, smiling. "Yeah. Despite it all, you're a big softie ."
It's enough to throw Vitani into a fit of laughter. She shoves Kiara's shoulder. "Oh, fuck you!"
Kiara shoves back. "It's true! You're a lion on the outside, but, like, a bunny on the inside!"
"You take that back!" Vitani pounces and Kiara receives her readily. The two wrestle in the dirt, laughing and kicking up grass. Kiara is not the little lioness she was at the time of the war. She's bulked up significantly since then, with her training to ascend to the crown continuing where it had left off. Vitani has to admit; she's rather impressed by her progress. She herself has started to fill out with her newfound and ever-replenishing food source here in the Pridelands, but Kiara was truly something to marvel at in terms of physique goals.
Eventually, Vitani breaks free, panting, "Damn, I guess the termite's been teaching you well!"
Kiara glared playfully. "Oh, none of that was Kovu; my mom taught me those moves!"
"Oh, yeah?" Vitani rolled her shoulders in anticipation and crouched readily, "Well, now I'm interested. Show me some of those moves you learned from your mommy ; I want a good fight outta you, Princess!"
Kiara readies herself, almost perfectly mirroring Vitani. "Bring it on!"
With that, the two leapt at one another.

Traders from Atfarinor, an outlander faction, arrived at the encampment
Despite some initial distrust ,we traded with them, selling 2 units of leftover FSX from the manhunting boomrat in exchange for one smoke grenade.
They relayed some information about a nearby collection of goods discovered by the chief of a different tribe, a coalition known as the Garo People.
It may be worth it to check it out.
The quintet had a meeting in the hut and decided it would be best for Sano and Vulture to embark on the journey.
With some dried meats ready, the two have set off on the first journey outside camp. Another big step for the Wings of Liberty.

GI Roleswap AU - Meeting Xiao
“...Do you really need those to see, Xiao?” The Traveller can’t help but ask.
A gust of wind suddenly hits him in the face and Aether can’t help but hold his cheek as if he were just slapped by the anemo archon himself, which wouldn't be too far from the truth.
The source of said wind (because who else could it be?) had his gaze averted (and was his hair glowing?) before grunting out, “No. They’re designer- only for decoration.”
“HUH?!” Paimon’s shrill voice screams. “Then why would you wear it?!”
Aether silently sighs at his small companion, yet he can’t feign his own interest in these events. It was odd for someone so practical to handle unnecessary objects to him in another universe.
Xiao shrugs. “Am I not free to do so? Your judgement fails to affect my decision. I like it, so I’m wearing it.”
“B-but… Hmm… I can’t really argue with that.” The fairy concedes. “Fair enough.”
Which launches the group into a generally comfortable silence as Xiao leads them to who knows where. It gives Aether ample time to speculate and question.
Just what exactly happened to Xiao? Is he not a Yaksha anymore in this world? If so, then what is he? A regular human? Is he still an adeptus?
Tall walls of gray are seen through his periphery and he stops his thoughts to stare up at a familiar-looking gate.
He turns to Paimon immediately, and her face is contorted into the same shock that he feels.
“Aether!” She doesn’t even try to whisper. “This is…!”
“Welcome to Mondstadt. My homeland.”
Well, that explains the new clothes…
[A lil taste of Anemo Archon Xiao under the cut]
Let the Wind lead. He hears around him. The string of words was the very foundation of the people of Mondstadt. And for him, as the archon of this airy place, he follows the principle quite literally.
Now was a good instance of that.
The winds relay to him a foreign presence. It stirs themselves into a tornado of gossip, as the whispers cause his hair to be blown strongly away from his face. He sighs. Immediately, they calm at the sound.
A whisper of a smile adorns his lips. Even though they murmur amongst themselves like children, they listen to him the moment he calls for them.
Yet the matter at hand- an outlander.
It certainly wasn't prohibited for outlanders to arrive, but if they pose a threat to his city, he would blast them away before they could even step through the gates.
So with that, he flies.
The wind guides him there with an ease only accomplished by many years of practice.
And because the winds love to be dramatic, they blow gentle breezes through his hair, letting his deep green coat bellow behind him, making him appear the archon he has been expected to be. But, more appropriately, it lets the winds flaunt their beautiful leader.
If Xiao was honest with himself, he doesn't really mind.

Video 📹 where Caitríona mentioned Geena Davis during the ATX TV Festival Outlander panel
By Chris Colin
Published May 25, 2023
Updated May 28, 2023
“Transforming Spaces” is a series about women driving change in sometimes unexpected places.
Geena Davis and her family were returning from dinner in their small Massachusetts town when her great-uncle Jack, 99, began drifting into the oncoming lane of traffic. Ms. Davis was about 8, flanked by her parents in the back seat. Politeness suffused the car, the family, maybe the era, and nobody remarked on what was happening, even when another car appeared in the distance, speeding toward them.
Finally, moments before impact, Ms. Davis’s grandmother issued a gentle suggestion from the passenger seat: “A little to the right, Jack.” They missed by inches.
Ms. Davis, 67, relayed this story in her 2022 memoir, “Dying of Politeness,” an encapsulation of the genially stultifying values that she had absorbed as a child — and that a great many other girls absorb, too: Defer. Go along to get along. Everything’s fine.
Of course the Academy Award-winning actress ditched that pliability long ago. From “Thelma & Louise” and “A League of Their Own” to this year’s coming-of-age drama, “Fairyland,” back-seat docility just wasn’t an option. Indeed, self-possession was her thing. (Or one of her things. Few profiles have failed to mention her Mensa membership, her fluency in Swedish or her Olympic-caliber archery prowess.) But cultivating her own audaciousness was only Phase 1.
Next year will mark two decades since the creation of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. When her daughter was a toddler, Ms. Davis couldn’t help noticing that male characters vastly outnumbered female characters in children’s TV and movies.
“I knew everything is completely imbalanced in the world,” she said recently. But this was the realm of make-believe; why shouldn’t it be 50/50?
It wasn’t just the numbers. How the women were represented, their aspirations, the way young girls were sexualized: Across children’s programming, Ms. Davis saw a bewilderingly warped vision of reality being beamed into impressionable minds. Long before “diversity, equity and inclusion” would enter the lexicon, she began mentioning this gender schism whenever she had an industry meeting.
“Everyone said, ‘No, no, no — it used to be like that, but it’s been fixed,’” she said. “I started to wonder, What if I got the data to prove that I’m right about this?”
Amid Hollywood’s trumpeted causes, Ms. Davis made it her mission to quietly harvest data. Exactly how bad is that schism? In what other ways does it play out? Beyond gender, who else is being marginalized? In lieu of speechifying and ribbons, and with sponsors ranging from Google to Hulu, Ms. Davis’s team of researchers began producing receipts.
Ms. Davis wasn’t the first to highlight disparities in popular entertainment. But by leveraging her reputation and resources — and by blasting technology at the problem — she made a hazy truth concrete and offered offenders a discreet path toward redemption. (While the institute first focused on gender data, its analyses now extend to race/ethnicity, L.G.B.T.Q.I.A.+, disability, age 50-plus and body type. Random awful finding: Overweight characters are more than twice as likely to be violent.)

Even when braced for it, the institute’s findings are staggering: In the 101 top-grossing G-rated films from 1990 to 2005, just 28 percent of speaking characters were female. Even in crowd scenes — even in animated crowd scenes — male characters vastly outnumber female ones. In the 56 top grossing films of 2018, women portrayed in positions of leadership were four times more likely than men to be shown naked. (The bodies of 15 percent of them were filmed in slow motion.) Where a century ago women had been fully central to the budding film industry, they were now a quantifiable, if sexy, afterthought.
“When she started to collect the data, it was kind of incredible,” said Hillary Hallett, a professor of American studies at Columbia University and the author of “Go West, Young Women! The Rise of Early Hollywood.” “This wasn’t a vague feeling anymore. You couldn’t claim this was just some feminist rant. It was like, ‘Look at these numbers.’”
Ms. Davis is by turns reserved and goofy offscreen — a thoughtful responder, an unbridled guffawer. (At one point she enunciated the word “acting” so theatrically that she feared it would be hard to spell in this article.) On a recent afternoon in Los Angeles, she took a break from illustrating the children’s book she had written, “The Girl Who Was Too Big for the Page.”
“I grew up very self-conscious about being the tallest kid — not just the tallest girl — in my class,” she said. “I had this childhood-long wish to take up less space in the world.”
In time she began to look beyond her height — six feet — to the insidious messages reinforcing such insecurity.
“Hollywood creates our cultural narrative — its biases trickle down to the rest of the world,” she said in “This Changes Everything,” the 2018 documentary she produced about gender inequity in the film industry. The documentary takes its name from the incessant refrain she kept hearing after the success of “Thelma & Louise,” and later “A League of Their Own.” Finally the power and profitability of female-centric movies had been proven — this changes everything! And then, year after year, nothing.

It was here that Ms. Davis planted her stake in the ground — a contention around why certain injustices persist, and how best to combat them. Where movements like #MeToo and Times Up target deliberate acts of monstrosity, hers would be the squishier universe of unconscious bias. Did you unthinkingly cast that doctor as a male? Hire that straight white director because he shares your background? Thought you were diversifying your film, only to reinforce old stereotypes? (Fiery Latina, anyone?)
It’s a dogged optimism that powers Ms. Davis’s activism — a faith that Hollywood can reform voluntarily. When she goes to a meeting now, she’s armed with her team’s latest research, and with conviction that improvement will follow.
“Our theory of change relies on the content creators to do good,” said Madeline Di Nonno, the president and the chief executive of the institute. “As Geena says, we never shame and blame. You have to pick your lane, and ours has always been, ‘We collaborate with you and want you to do better.’”
If a car full of polite Davises can awaken to oncoming danger, perhaps filmmakers can come to see the harm they’re perpetuating.
“Everyone isn’t out there necessarily trying to screw women or screw Black people,” said Franklin Leonard, a film and television producer and founder of the Black List, a popular platform for screenplays that have not been produced. “But the choices they make definitely have that consequence, regardless of what they believe about their intent.”
He added: “It’s not something people are necessarily aware of. And there’s no paper trail — it can only be revealed in aggregate. Which gets to the value of Geena’s work.”
“Hollywood creates our cultural narrative— its biases trickle down to the rest of the world,” Ms Davis said in This Changes Everything, the 2018 documentary she produced about gender inequity in the film industry. Magdalena Wosinska for The New York Times
Unique to the institute’s efforts is its partnership with the University of Southern California’s Signal Analysis and Interpretation Laboratory, which uses software and machine learning to analyze scripts and other media. One tool born of that collaboration, Spellcheck for Bias, employs AI to scan scripts for stereotypes and other problematic choices. (Janine Jones-Clark, the executive vice president for inclusion for NBCUniversal’s global talent development and inclusion team, recalled a scene in a television show in which a person of color seemed to be acting in a threatening manner toward another character. Once flagged by the software, the scene was reshot.)
Still, progress has been mixed. In 2019 and 2020, the institute reported that gender parity for female lead characters had been achieved in the 100 highest-grossing family films and in the top Nielsen-rated children’s television shows. Nearly 70 percent of industry executives familiar with the institute’s research made changes to at least two projects.
But women represented just 18 percent of directors working on the top 250 films of 2022, up only 1 percent from 2021, according to the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film; the percentage of major Asian and Asian American female characters fell from 10 percent in 2021 to under 7 percent in 2022. A 2021 McKinsey report showed that 92 percent of film executives were white — less diverse than Donald Trump’s cabinet at the time, as Mr. Leonard of the Black List noted.
“I think the industry is more resistant to change than anybody realizes,” he added. “So I’m incredibly appreciative of anyone — and especially someone with Geena’s background — doing the non-glamorous stuff of trying to change it, being in the trenches with Excel spreadsheets.”
Ms. Davis has not quit her day job. (Coming soon: a role in “Pussy Island,” a thriller from Zoe Kravitz in her directorial debut.) But acting shares a billing with her books, the diversity-focused Bentonville Film Festival she started in Arkansas in 2015 — even the roller coasters she rides for equity. (Yes, Thelma is now Disney’s gender consultant for its theme parks and resorts.)
“We’re definitely heading in the right direction,” she said. “Bill Gates called himself an impatient optimist, and that feels pretty good for what I am.”
A correction was made on May 26, 2023: An earlier version of this article misspelled the surname of the president and chief executive of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. She is Madeline Di Nonno, not Di Donno. The error was repeated in a photo caption.
A correction was made on May 28, 2023: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated the number of Academy Awards Ms. Davis received. She won one Oscar for her supporting performance in “The Accidental Tourist,” and was nominated for a second Academy Award for “Thelma & Louise.”

This lie is back on the shipper talking points. I still remember the shipper who sent this garbage to them and they all accepted it as true. Nobody else at that panel heard that but this shipper. I would have loved for someone to have asked this of Cait and see her reaction. She didn't say his name in that scene and didn't say that she did but shippers are at it again because they recycle lies hoping to hook others and reinforce their followers' beliefs.
Anonymous asked:
Hello Sgian, I saw your answer and you commented that Cait spoke about the chapter The Reckoning when he named Sam and not Jamie. I've read that she recognizes the actress who plays Geillis Duncan, but I don't know if it's true. Could you tell me Cait's explanation of that "slip" and if there is a video, could you point it out to me, so I look for it. thank you
sgiandubh answered:
And top of the morning to you, Inquisitive Anon!
Perhaps contrary to expectations, I don't keep an OL archive on my laptop, spare my own findings. But I do remember very clearly reading quite recently that this happened at an event after IFH and - dare I say it with confidence - even after EFH ( Highlanders 2 in 2017? LV Outlander Convention in 2018? I am at a loss, here). The comment, which was NOT Lotte Verbeek's, was relayed by a blogger, but it did not originate on Tumblr (makes any sense?). I don't remember if there was a video floating along with it, but there are pictures. No other explanation was provided, I think in all good faith, because I recall I grinned wider than that Cheshire Cat - pun not intended.
If any charitable soul feels like diving in the Sea of Receipts and bring this pearl back to shore, I would be as thrilled as you, Anon.

It was at some sort of panel. A fan asked, Cait admitted it was true and Lotte was surprised. Cait just said that it had been a long day.
ready4newyear
Yep - I think it was a panel too and Cait said yes and Lotte was surprised.
Oh I can remember this debate though I don't remember the details. I think it was at a con and she was with Lotte on the stage with questions being asked. What I don't remember is whether there was footage of this particular scene shown or whether it was a general question and whether she openly admitted the name confusion or it was another case of shippers being "experts" at lips reading.
Whatever it was it's funny that such scene was from the very first they show in the show and with her little acting experience uttering the actor's name instead of the character seems like an innocent honest mistake.
Also funny that they used to say no modesty patch meant couple while she didn't wear it either with Tobias. Guess it was a ménage a trois they were having there.

Come Home to my Heart (6/6)
- Part 4/? of A Girl out of Time (Adaman x OC)
Read the series here/background context on Ao3
All works (including art) will be/are crossposted to Tumblr!
--------------------------------
It was windy that evening, but Hikari only became aware of such due to the sudden breeze rattling the door to the hut and startling her awake. She blinked a few times to gather her bearings, and immediately noted that despite the hour, and the fact that the embers in the fire pit were practically extinguished, her previously present husband was missing.
”Leafeon,” she called to the grass creature curled up at the foot of the bed, who chirped in acknowledgment before glancing back at her, “Where’s Adaman?”
”Leaf-ahh,” Leafeon responded, glancing at the door but refusing to budge any further. Hikari, realizing she was very much on her own, just sighed, rising from the bed and donning her haori that hung on the wall over her thin sleepwear. Quietly she exited the hut, taking care to keep her movements just as silent as she went about the Diamond Settlement in search of her other half.
A few huntsmen and nightly patrol greeted her with respectful bows as she meandered about, but none seemed to have current information on their leader’s whereabouts. Hikari knew he was capable and could handle himself, but it simply wasn’t like him to just get up in the middle of the night and take off.
Eventually she did spot a familiar head of multicolored hair looking out over Lake Valor, and Hikari wanted to slap herself for not checking there first. It wasn’t the first time she had come across Adaman observing the still waters when he needed time away from everyone else.
”Adaman?” she softly inquired as she approached, not wanting to startle him from his reverie. The clan leader looked over his shoulder at her in surprise, but still offered a tiny smile.
“Hikari. I apologize if I woke you with my absence, my light. I just needed to clear my head.” Hikari’s mouth twisted sideways at that, and she came up beside him.
”Is everything okay?”
Adaman nodded, his eyes moving towards the lake once again. “A stressful day, is all. As you’re likely aware, some of the elders hold quite a bit of contempt at the decisions I’ve made in the last few years. They made a point to sit me down so they could express their growing disapproval at my leadership just before we all retired for the evening. I suppose I’ve allowed their words to get to me.”
”Adaman…” Hikari murmured sorrowfully, her heart aching at the downtrodden expression he wore. Mere seconds later she was embracing him from behind; her arms coiling around his torso as her head came to rest in the small of his back. “Care to relay whatever nonsense they spewed so I can tear it to shreds?”
Her husband, placing a hand over hers, let out a chuckle at the fiery way she responded. “One of the many reasons I adore you so,” he uttered, before recounting to her what he had heard prior.
“Before you arrived in Hisui, we were still at odds with the Pearl Clan over our respective beliefs surrounding what Almighty Sinnoh truly was. And now, even with Mighty Dialga speaking to me in that instance at the Temple of Sinnoh, plus the reveal of there being deities for both time and space, the oldest among our people still insist we need to be treating our counterparts as enemies rather than allies - for it is simply what they are comfortable and familiar with.”
Gripping her hand a little tighter, he continued, “They also think it foolish and heretical that I would take an outlander as my wife, but I immediately shut them down when that nonsense started. I’ve seen the way you’ve dedicated yourself to studying our culture and customs, despite not having been born within the clan. On top of that, you saved the entirety of Hisui, and helped carve a path to a brighter future for us all. If anything, it is I who is not worthy of you.”
Hikari huffed at the admission, nuzzling her cheek into the material covering his back. “It’s not a matter of worth, Adaman. I love you for your fortitude, your kindness, and your strength. And I know for certain that if anyone is a fool in this situation, it’s them. You had the courage to correct the false beliefs cemented within your clan despite the protests. And because of that, your people can move forward without doubt or misgivings. That makes you a worthwhile leader, in my eyes.”
Adaman was quiet for a time, likely contemplating everything she had said. Then, all at once, he was rotating in her arms so he could return her embrace; his cheek coming to rest on the top of her head as he held her close.
”I must truly be blessed by Almighty Sinnoh to have someone as wonderful as you as my partner in this life,” he breathed, the smile evident in his voice. “You always have a means of calming the turmoil in my mind.”
Hikari felt a smile of her own blooming on her cheeks as she buried her face in his chest. “All part of the job,” she teased, her grin only growing wider when Adaman laughed in response. She lifted her head with a content expression, only to softly sigh when a lovestruck Adaman lowered his face and kissed her soundly.
The evening breeze decided to make an encore as the two stood wrapped up in one another, and thankfully Adaman didn’t miss the way his wife shivered in his arms. “Ah. Perhaps we should return to the settlement before one of us catches cold,” he suggested sheepishly as he observed her state of dress, and Hikari nodded all-too-eagerly.
And as they walked hand-in-hand down the trail back to their home, the woman made a point to hold on just a little bit more firmly; hoping to convey her continued support of her husband and leader so long as he may need it.

Outlander Fanfic Relay #9
Hello everyone, this is @akb723 with part #9 of the Outlander Fanfic Relay! I apologize for using almost the entire week, but I hope you enjoy it.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8
They had stayed wrapped in each other’s arms for who knows how long, just breathing each other in. Claire had fallen asleep on his shoulder and the solid weight of her slowly relaxed him. The knowledge that she seemed to trust him enough to sleep near him struck him so cleanly it was like a bolt of lightning to the heart and, with that impact, his eyelids began to fall and his grip on her waist tightened just a bit as their breathing synced and evened out.
------- Everything smelt wet.
Looking around, he couldn’t place where he was. It was lush and green, but like nowhere he thought he had ever been. He slowly looked around, trying to take everything in. It was stunning. This was different than before. There was sun filtering through to where he stood and shadows were cast around him from the tall trees. There was no all-encompassing darkness here. All around him was beauty and life. Every tree and flower seemed to be in full bloom. Birds chippered and splashed as they took off and landed in what he could only assume was some body of water nearby. At the end of a fully made circle to try and take in everything, he noticed a clearing several meters away and a carriage off to the side.
He moved in the direction of the clearing and with each step voices could be heard more clearly. The absolute hatred and malice in the voices made his blood run cold and then boil. He couldn’t understand it, but he was suddenly furious and needed to get closer.
He began to run, weaving in between the trees and as he got closer, the people. He hadn’t noticed, the only things registering as he ran was the sudden, all-consuming blood rage and the squelching sound of the ground beneath his boots as he moved forward. The serenity and beauty of his surroundings was gone. He could faintly hear grunting and yelling, as well as the sound of blades clashing over his pulse that hammered hard in his ears. The closer he got; the more a rage clouded his mind. He needed to get there.
As suddenly as his rage had started, it vanished. A bone-deep terror filled him so quickly he almost kept running as all sound around him was replaced with a scream filled with equal parts agony and desperation.
Sound came back as the crowd around him rushed forward and men in the distance yelled, but he was no longer running, in fact he was frozen. Because as the crowd moved the source of that scream was revealed and the world stopped.
“Claire!” He screamed as loud as he could, though he doubted she would hear him over everything else. He tried to move towards her, but each foot seemed to sink deeper into the wet earth beneath him.
“Claire!” He tried again, and this time she looked up. She was pale and terrified, she opened her mouth, but nothing came out.
Holding out a hand to him, she managed two words as pain visibly ripped through her body and she crumpled to the ground.
“Jamie, Help!”
With that final plea, the crowd surrounded her, and he could see to no more.
-------
Jamie woke with a start, not fully aware of where he was until the pleasant weight of Claire, who was now laying on his chest brought him back to the present.
He smiled, closed his eyes again, and took a deep breath.
The bitter taste of adrenaline filled his mouth.
His eyes stayed closed, delaying the recognition of why his clothes felt wet.
All he could smell was blood.
@caitbalfes you’re up!!!

you plop into their lap, what do they do? ♡
---
characters included: albedo, diluc, venti ♡
♡
ALBEDO ♡ - flipping through the documents sitting upon his desk, the chief alchemist of the knights of favonius gazed intently at each one, relaying the notes written on the documents in his head. creaking the door open, your curious head peered into the laboratory belonging to albedo, smiling slightly when your eyes landed upon him, the genius hard at work. carefully stepping in, you gently shut the creaky door behind you, and stepped softly over all the books and research notes crowding the floor. flopping over onto the soft couch planted in his lab, you sighed. peering over once again at your busy lover, you sat up. gazing around the room, your boredom only rampaged in your mind. struck with an idea, you stood up, making your way over to your lover. picking his arm up, and wrapping it around yourself as you took your rightful seat in his lap. peering over at you curiously, albedo simply sighed and rested his chin on your shoulder, shifting you into a more comfortable position for the both of you. placing a gentle kiss on your neck once you were settled, both of you sighed in content at this gentle moment.
DILUC ♡ - sighing in frustration, the red-haired noble abruptly sat down on a nearby wooden chair, huffing angrily. it had been a long day for him, yet he still had additional work to get done. worriedly jogging into diluc's workspace, your eyes only spelled concern as your eyes rested on the red-haired claymore user. eyes snapping up, the darknight hero looked at the person who has entered his office, relaxing his eyes when they rested upon your concerned figure. no words were said, the only thing that was exchanged was physical touch. your soft and loving hands glided around his shoulders, giving them a careful rub. placing a gentle and tender kiss upon the crown of his head, you brought your legs to his waist, wrapping your legs around his waist as you sat yourself in his firm lap. surprised at your bold actions, diluc was quick to return the favor, wrapping his arms around your waist to hold you in place. not long after, you began to weave your fingers through his hair, pulling his head into your neck as you placed adoring pecks on his hair, rubbing his back. breathing softly, the both of you cherishing this rare moment, not saying a word, for actions speak louder than words.
VENTI ♡ - plopping yourself into his lap, the anemo god gazed at you curiously. quickly getting ideas, his expression changed from that of a curious one to a smug one. "ehe!" he smirked, smugly shoving you off. "what-" "EHE." the aggressive "ehe" that left the apple addicts' lips surely disturbed you, but also set off a playful rage inside you, leading you to shove him right back. "see? who's 'ehe' ing now, huh bard?" you smugly stated, crossing your arms in triumph. "not me!" he winked, shoving you right back. "WHAT- THIS IS WAR." you declared, shoving him once again. passing by, Lumine turned to her traveling companion, curious about a certain flower they has passed in their travels earlier that week. before she could begin to speak, her flying companion pointed towards Windrise, looking deeply concerned. "uh, Lumine? isn't that venti and (Y/N)? are they...okay?" peering across the dirt road curiously, the blonde outlander didn't expect to see the lovers aggressively shoving each other, looking like they were trying to kill each other. jogging up, she asked the pairing, "are you two...okay?" immediately, the two of you stopped shoving each other, peering over to the source of the voice. "yes! we're fine, just aggressively showing our everlasting love for each other by shoving the shit out of each other!" the cheery bard grinned. "yep!" you said, totally not tackling the bard and making you both tumble hopelessly to the ground. "...sigh, I suppose this is what you get when two archons fall in love..."

Escape
The years had ticked by at a slow crawl.
The cell, always just cold enough to be uncomfortable. The food, always brought when it had already cooled. It was prepared with a Human in mind, so the Zabrak was never quite sated as he picked out what meat could be found.
His hair had grown out too long. All he could do was tie it back with torn fabric, and hope no strands would come loose to fall around his horns and into his eyes. They did anyway.
Yellow eyes, practically aglow in the dim cell, watched the Knight outside with such intensity that he started to shift uncomfortably as he sensed the stare on the back of his head.
He was tired. Always so tired. He knew it was the collar at his neck, numbing his senses, making any attempts to wield the Force sluggish and clumsy. They wanted him docile. They wanted him easy to control. He was dangerous to them, but they wanted him alive.
The days continued to drag on, and on, and on, until...
"Prisoner unresponsive..." the Knight tasked with guarding his cell growled anxiously. He unlocked the door without second thought, knelt by the curled up, still form of what had once been the mighty Barsen'thor of the Jedi Order. He shook the man - Synnda could sense his growing unease and desperation as he did it again, then-
The Knight's startled cry cut out before it could truly leave his throat with a sickening crack. And it was there, where he'd knelt, that he collapsed to the floor of the cell and Synnda was on his feet in an instant.
He'd spent a long time studying the guard schedule. Learning their ticks, their personalities. He'd waited with so much patience, for just the right moment, and now...
Not a word, not a sound, as he searched the guard - keycard, saber pike, and... ah. There it is.
He grit his teeth together as he brought the device up to his collar. It chirped softly in his ear and he squeezed his eyes shut against the tears as the claws retracted from his neck, from where they were embed so dangerously close around his spine, and caught it with one hand before it could clatter against the floor.
A shaky breath to steady himself, wiping a bare hand over the trickles of blood it left behind, and he finally straightened.
One glance to the Knight's still form - his neck twisted unnaturally - a silent prayer in his mind to rest well with the Force, and he shrouded himself in it.
He could feel the shadows close in around him, welcomed them like old friends as he felt the familiar pressure on his chest. Move slowly, he reminded himself. They can't see you, but may still sense you.
It was almost two hours before the body was found in his former cell. Only minutes after, that the prison went into lockdown - the Knights didn't realize until even longer that he was already long gone.
A few hours more, and the former Cipher Nine had sent a contact to rendezvous with him to get him off Zakuul. And it was then, and only then, that he could finally relay what he'd discovered.
The Grand Champion - the "Outlander" - was located. It was time to free her and track the remainder of the old team. To find the whereabouts of the MIA Darth Nox, and Havoc Commander, the Battlemaster and the Wrath and even the Voidhound - they'd need all of them and more, but...
Arcann would finally fall.
