I took Olivia, Emerson and Lily out for a snow play day! Snow doesn't stick around very long when it does fall, so we take all the chances we can get to enjoy it!

I rlly wanna go camping, but like in a degrading way, take me on an isolated trail, strip my clothes off except for a collar, make me walk and pee on all fours, tell me im a good girl and pet me when you take a break, let me roll about, get all muddy then go paddling, and when night falls, tie me up outside so i can huddle by the fire for warmth, the rope just a lil too short to be able to reach your tent.

On the coldest winter days, the wide and shallow Canyon Creek freezes over and becomes the very best place to go ice skating! Olivia brought along her purple skates and her new best friend Marietta, who had never been skating before. Marietta was a bit unsteady at first and fell down a few times, but with Olivia's help she got right back up on her feet.
The creek is tucked away in a beautiful, hidden, steep-sided canyon that offers plenty of quiet solitude. It can be tricky to catch the ice at the perfect time and condition--when it's not been too snowy or too warm. It has become a favorite place for my dolls and me.

After skating for a few hours, the two girls went indoors and warmed up by the fireplace with mugs of hot cocoa.
Marietta and Olivia are both Starpath dolls. Ice skates are American Girl brand. Marietta's pompom hat, maple leaf scarf, leggings, and mittens are by Maplelea. Her sweater was made by me. Olivia's purple shirt, jacket, and headband are by Starpath. Her gray leggings were made by me. Her mittens are by Maplelea and her scarf is by AG.

Outdoor play is more than just fun—it’s essential for a child’s cognitive and physical development. From running around the playground to exploring nature, these activities significantly impact young minds and bodies. In fact, incorporating outdoor play into the daily routine of children enrolled in child care services in East Orange, New Jersey, can lead to remarkable developmental benefits.

Why Go Out to Play? Today’s children spend half as much time playing outdoors as their parents did—a trend seen worldwide. Concerns about safety, limited access to green spaces (especially in urban areas), and the lure of screens are reducing children’s connection to nature. But the benefits of outdoor play are profound. Spending more time outdoors boosts physical health, enhances social-emotional wellbeing, and supports cognitive and academic learning. Research even suggests that engaging with nature can improve children’s language and communication skills—essential for their development, education, and future opportunities. Myopia in Children: A Global Health Crisis
A recent study published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology reveals a troubling trend: one in three children worldwide is now affected by myopia, commonly known as nearsightedness. This condition means that distant objects appear blurry while close ones remain clear. The research shows that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on children’s vision, largely due to increased…

Lets not forget people didn't call CPS for dumb shit like "2 ten year olds on bikes riding down the street by themselves" because they were going to their other friend's house. Or get the police on you with "There are 10 kids on the street! With weapons! They are chanting and shouting! They all have bats/hockey sticks/nerf or water guns!" Because you either scare the parents or at worse your kid will be taken away from you....one way or another.
Also you didn't have massive vanity pick up trucks or tall as fuck SUVs where they have a 5-10 feet front blind spot. And because they have that blind spot, its harder to see a kid crossing or standing in the street.
Or shit like fentanyl or xylazine roaming around. Yeah we had pot or heroin to worry about in my time, but if I noticed one thing its, the government keeps banning and criminalizing and the drugs get stronger.
And the giant lack of outdoor knowledge by the parents that just assume all outdoor things are bad. I had students who were afraid to touch acorns incase there was something that could bite them or give them a rash, or dirty their pockets.

I wish I could have attended the Madison Children's Museum benefit sale this weekend. It looks like a lot of you had a great time. Instead, I spent it hanging out with Harmony! We escaped the heat wave and went camping in the resort town of Cloudcroft, high in the mountains. Along the way we stopped at McGinn's Pistachio Land to see the world's largest pistachio! A lot of different crops are grown in this area, and orchard fruits, pistachios, and pecans are a specialty. So we got stocked up on snacks: fresh pistachios, cherry cider, and pralines!
Harmony is wearing the American Girl brand Camping Outfit from 2001. She's my 90's girl, so the outfit is a few years ahead of her time, but close enough! It's one of my favorite outfits.

The Importance of Outdoor Play Equipment for Schools in the UK
Tumblr media
Outdoor play is an essential part of a child’s education and development. Image Playgrounds designs, manufactures, and installs bespoke outdoor play equipment for schools, communities, and businesses across the UK, offering innovative solutions tailored to each environment. High-quality outdoor play equipment enhances students' physical and mental well-being, boosts creativity, and encourages teamwork. Here’s why investing in outdoor play equipment for schools is so important.
Enhancing Physical Health and Development
One of the primary benefits of outdoor play equipment for schools is the promotion of physical health. With increasing concerns over childhood obesity and sedentary lifestyles, playgrounds provide a space where children can engage in physical activity in a fun and stimulating way. Climbing frames, slides, swings, and balance beams all encourage children to be active, developing their strength, coordination, and motor skills. Schools equipped with bespoke playgrounds see improvements in students' physical fitness, as regular exercise becomes an enjoyable part of their daily routine.
Encouraging Creativity and Imagination
Outdoor play equipment for schools doesn’t just offer physical benefits—it also fosters creativity and imagination. Image Playgrounds understands the importance of designing equipment that allows children to explore their creative potential. Whether it’s a themed play structure or interactive elements that encourage role-playing, their bespoke designs cater to imaginative play. This freedom of expression helps students develop problem-solving skills, explore new ideas, and engage in storytelling with their peers. A well-designed playground becomes a space for exploration and invention, inspiring children to think creatively.
Promoting Social Interaction and Teamwork
Outdoor play equipment for schools plays a crucial role in teaching children valuable social skills. Through group activities and shared play, students learn how to communicate, collaborate, and work together as a team. Playground equipment designed to encourage cooperative play—such as multi-user swings, seesaws, or group climbing structures—fosters a sense of community among students. Image Playgrounds ensures their designs create opportunities for inclusive and social play, helping children build strong friendships and develop essential interpersonal skills.
Supporting Mental Health and Emotional Well-Being
In today’s fast-paced world, children face increasing levels of stress, even at a young age. Outdoor play offers a natural release for this tension. Bespoke outdoor play equipment for schools not only provides physical exercise but also serves as a stress reliever. When children play outdoors, they experience the benefits of fresh air, sunlight, and an open environment where they can freely express their emotions. Playgrounds become safe spaces where children can relax, have fun, and disconnect from the pressures of the classroom.
Conclusion
Bespoke outdoor play equipment for schools is an essential investment in the well-being and development of children. Image Playgrounds provides customized designs that cater to the physical, social, and emotional needs of students, creating engaging outdoor spaces that promote learning through play.
