i feel like i just did this but tumblr tells me it was in fact almost a month ago. guess it's just that I've written very little in the interim.
story is: long flight coming up on sunday so it's 150 words meme time as usual! send me up to three numbers from the list of fics below and I'll write 150 words in the fic of your choice

1. “I mean, you could’ve left, probably would’ve been easier,” Anders said. He let out a stuttering, uncertain laugh. “I remember being pretty out of it.”
He honestly, Fenris realized, hadn’t considered it. After killing the Templars, going to retrieve Anders had seemed like the only thing to do. Perfectly reasonable and natural. It wasn’t that he’d made a decision to take Anders with him so much as he hadn’t chosen not to.
“I wasn’t thinking,” Fenris said.
“So you’re saying you would’ve left me if you had been?” Anders said, but he sounded more amused than upset. “Nice to know it’s not your default, anyway.”
“Force of habit,” Fenris said, returning with new vigor to his task. (the best all lack conviction)
2. He hadn’t seen any blades yet. If he moved fast now – Wolfwood wasn’t sure what it’d take, exactly, to kill an independent Plant. He couldn’t’ve done it before, when Millions Knives was at the height of his power. But Knives was vulnerable now, like this. Weaker. There wouldn’t be a better chance. He could find out what it took. Punisher had a lot of bullets. And also a laser.
“Nai, huh,” Wolfwood said, his brain whirring. Knives shifted, again poised to run. Shifted his bare feet, which Wolfwood found himself staring at. Vash was dead because of this guy. He’d made Wolfwood into a monster, made Livio into…something else. He would’ve killed every human being on the planet. Probably in the universe, if he got the chance. Sure, he was just a teenager now, but teenagers grew up, and he’d only get more dangerous.
He was also a fucking teenager. (The Second Coming)
3. Kinn didn’t learn that Vegas had been shot, was in surgery, and might die for almost three hours after the coup ended. His first thought was a funny, unfamiliar pang of concern; the second was a bitter good riddance, and that was the one he stuck with. He didn’t ask any further questions and nobody tried to tell him anything. He hadn’t seen Pete since that night, but he knew he was still around, not far. He tried not to think too hard about where he was.
He knew Porsche went to see him – Pete, that was. And Vegas.
Porsche didn’t tell him he was visiting Vegas. He didn’t mention Vegas at all. But Kinn knew, and it left a sour taste in his mouth that had him visualizing shooting Vegas dead next to his father. Vegas wasn’t a threat to him anymore, Kinn reminded himself. He was defanged, declawed. Also, he wasn’t even conscious. (Tilted Axis)
4. “You know people say that’s dangerous to just casually play around with,” Wei Wuxian said, and Xue Yang was ready to say that it was pretty rich of Wei Wuxian to say that, but looking at his face Xue Yang thought he was probably joking.
“Sure, for people who are bad at it,” Xue Yang said. “Hasn’t killed me yet.”
“I get the impression you’re hard to kill,” Wei Wuxian said. Xue Yang smiled at him.
“Despite a few peoples’ best efforts. I guess I can claim that one on you, huh?” (demonic cultivator team up)
5. It made him feel crazy, sometimes, the way the main family acted like they were family even though everybody knew it was fake. Right up until they didn’t, anyway, when the mask came off and Kinn had a gun in his face. If Kinn shot Vegas he’d be in trouble. If Vegas shot Kinn he’d be dead.
Kin when it was convenient.
Fuck, he felt like he was drowning.
Vegas waited until Macau left to say to Pete, “if he kills me don’t retaliate. Get out, get Macau, and leave the country. There’s passports in a safety deposit box under the name–”
“Khun Korn isn’t going to kill you,” Pete said. Vegas’s lip curled.
“Because he’s so fair?” he said.
“It’s not a good move,” Pete said. Then added, “right now.”
Vegas knew he was probably right. He wasn’t a threat, after all. Killing him would provoke another panic when Korn was trying to settle things down, to project strength and unity. There was a part of Vegas that wanted his uncle to prove Pete wrong, though, because at least then he would know he mattered. (post canon vegaspete long(er) fic)
6. “The Champion,” the Seeker said, when Cullen didn’t reply. He couldn’t help a wince.
“What about her,” he said, carefully neutral.
“Where is she?”
Cullen sighed. “You’re not the first person to ask me. I don’t know. Hawke left the Gallows after…after the fighting was ended, along with her companions. She might’ve gone anywhere, from there.”
“You were there,” the Seeker said. Her eyes truly were unusually penetrating. “You witnessed…”
“The Knight-Commander going mad and bringing statues to life before turning into a statue herself?” Cullen said. His voice came out more snappish than he meant it to. “Yes, I did. I doubt I can tell you any more than you already know. I thought it was just a mage rebellion, like in…as in Ferelden’s Circle during the Blight.” And that was all he was going to say about that. “I fought along with Hawke and her friends to…deal with what Meredith had become.”
“And you let them leave.”
It was all Cullen could do not to drop his face into the palms of his hands. “Yes,” he said. “I let them leave. What was I supposed to do? (Salvage)
7. “Are you okay, man? How’re your–” Porsche gestured at Pete’s chest and Pete flinched like he’d touched him even though obviously he hadn’t. Stupid, he thought angrily, but held his smile.
“I’m okay. It’s okay,” he said. “Pretty much healed, I’m back on duty now with Khun Noo. It’s good.”
Porsche squinted at him in a way Pete might’ve found funny if he didn’t feel the seeping guilt that said you’re lying to him, why are you lying to him, why don’t you just tell him the truth, isn’t he your friend–
That didn’t mean Pete had to tell him everything or even that there was anything to tell. It wasn’t Porsche’s business. There was no it to be his business, even.
He still felt bad.
“I’m really okay,” he repeated determinedly. “Sorry I didn’t bring you back any food from home.” (jiggety-jig)
8. He stepped back and held the door open for Porsche to come in. He resisted the urge to close the door on Porsche’s bodyguard shadow, giving him a sharp smile instead. The way he twitched was a little bit reassuring.
Pete was sleeping; he hadn’t been lying about that. He probably would’ve wanted to wake up for Porsche, if he knew Porsche was here. As far as Vegas was concerned he didn’t have to. “Make yourself at home,” Vegas said coolly, gesturing at the living room. He twitched his head in the direction of the guard and added, “new meat?”
“Don’t be a dick,” Porsche said, scraping against Vegas’s already frayed nerves. He almost said if you think this is me being a dick you’ve really forgotten what I’m capable of but it would just sound like – would just be – stupid posturing. Knowing that didn’t improve things any. (Undercut)
9. “What,” Song Lan said, tensing. “What is it?”
“What? Oh,” Xue Yang said. “Nothing, just thought of something else. It’s not important right now. You could always just try taking the fight to the thing itself - try to track it to its lair before it comes to us.”
Song Lan frowned. “What did you think of?”
“You know what your problem is, Song-daozhang, you’re so nosy,” Xue Yang said, though he didn’t actually sound upset. “I’ll tell you later, okay? Stay focused.”
There was something deeply and awfully funny to Song Lan about Xue Yang telling him to focus, but it wasn’t the kind of humor that made him want to laugh. He studied Xue Yang, weighing the odds that he was telling the truth versus the possibility that Xue Yang was keeping back something potentially dangerous.
“Oh, come on,” Xue Yang said. “I promise it’s nothing that’ll hurt you or any of those so-called innocents you’re so worried about. Swear on it. Can we go back to the people-eating luck-god now?” (Walking Far from Home)
10. *Xingchen?* Song Lan said gingerly, after a while. The stain on his bandage kept spreading, but he just shook his head.
*You must think me so…* He trailed off. *I’m so tired, Zichen.*
*Then rest,* Song Lan said. *Whatever you need.*
Xingchen didn’t bring up Xue Yang again, or ask any further questions about him, but his silence felt somehow conspicuous. A palpable absence, like Song Lan’s own silence. He didn’t know what lay within it and wavered between wanting to and wishing he wasn’t aware of the negative space at all.
Because Xue Yang was still present, a ghost in their shadows who couldn’t be dispersed. There was no spirit to banish, but he lingered all the same. (Life After Death)
11. A-Qing’s lower lip wobbled. Xiao Xingchen could see her fighting not to cry. “What’re you going to do about it,” she said. “Beat up my parents?”
Xue Yang cocked his head slightly. It wasn’t an unfamiliar motion but for some reason watching him do it now made Xiao Xingchen want to shiver, thinking of some kind of hawk studying a blissfully unaware rodent.
“Are you asking because you wish somebody would?” he asked, apparently completely serious. Xiao Xingchen looked back and forth between them, wide-eyed, his heart beating too quickly. What is going on, he wanted to ask, but his mouth was glued shut.
“Sometimes,” a-Qing said, very quietly. Xue Yang cocked his head in the other direction, then shrugged.
“Well,” he said, tone shifting abruptly to something much lighter, “if you ever want any hot tips about how you can really fuck up your gene donor’s day without getting in trouble, I’ve got a bunch.” (Redux)
12. His foot hit something and it rolled. Vegas crouched down and reached out, feeling carefully until he found something hard. He picked it up and brought it right up to his nose, struggling to make it out. When he had it, his blood turned icy.
It was a syringe. An empty syringe.
Fuck, Vegas thought. Fuck, fuck. He had no way of knowing what’d been in it, or how much, or how long it’d been, and there were too many possibilities. Or it could be fucking nothing, just mind games or not even anything to do with Vegas.
He wasn’t stupid enough to believe that for a second. He couldn’t exactly check for puncture wounds in the dark but even if he found one that wouldn’t tell him anything either. He was sweaty and warm but that could just as easily be the temperature itself and nothing to do with whatever drug they might’ve given him. (All's Fair)
13. Still, since that first night and whatever he’d done to me then there’d been no talk of hocus stuff. It was all about making it so I looked right and talked right and knew all the right flashie manners and all that, but no spells or anything. I hardly even saw Malkar do anything and I was watching for it.
Eventually I worked up some nerve, because I thought maybe he was waiting for me to say something. We were eating dinner and I was being real careful to be doing everything right and trying to think the best way to say it.
“Excuse me, Malkar,” I said, minding my vowels. “May I ask a question?”
Malkar set down his fork and looked at me. My guts got all tight and I almost dropped my eyes down to my plate but Malkar said I looked like a coquette when I did that, and not like it was a good thing. (Pygmalion)
14. It was not as though Tuor expected Maeglin to be grateful that he had saved his life. He knew he wouldn’t be. You had no right to take my choice from me. What he underestimated was his determination to destroy himself anyway.
The first indication that they were going to have a problem came with the fact that, not even a day after Maeglin woke – two days since they’d left Gondolin – he tried to leave. Tuor appealed to his guilt, appealed to his familial bonds, without success. He even brought up the White Lady, and for a moment when Maeglin paused thought he had made progress, only to receive the coldest look he’d ever gotten from him.
Finally, he tried for a stopgap measure. A week, he said. That would allow some time for this desperation to pass, the urge to weaken, to pull Maeglin out of his half-death and back among the living.
In the end Tuor had to knock him off his horse and bind his hands to stop him from fleeing. (time for all the works and days of hands)
15. “So suspicious, Mingyan-niangzi,” Sha Hualing said. “So hostile.”
“Tell me I shouldn’t be,” Liu Mingyan said, still standing so straight and proud and…ugh. She drove Sha Hualing insane sometimes, her perfect posture and perfect eyes and perfect…her face wasn’t that perfect. Sha Hualing was pretty sure she only wore that veil so people would think she was special, but Sha Hualing had seen her face and it wasn’t like – okay, she was pretty but not that pretty. She’d seen prettier, for sure, only she couldn’t think who right now, and why was she thinking so much about Liu Mingyan’s prettiness anyway.
“You shouldn’t be,” Sha Hualing said, annoyed. “But if you’re going to be like that I can always just go.” There was no point in trying to finish her business here with Liu Mingyan sticking to her like a burr. She’d just have to come back and try again some other day.
“Where’re you going?” Liu Mingyan asked. Sha Hualing made a face where Her Highness Miss Perfect Cultivator couldn’t see it. (under pressure)

Fate and Phantasms #112: Shuten-Douji
Today on Fate and Phantasms we’re making the ASMR oni and boss of Mount Ooe, Shuten-Douji! Spirits, Poisons, and Being an Oni will be yours to command with this build!

Race and Background
Shuten is a demon, but the closest thing we can get in D&D is the half demon Tiefling. As a child of Fierna you’ll find yourself very persuasive thanks to the free Friends cantrip you get as part of your Legacy of Phlegethos. You also get +1 Dexterity (thanks to Tasha’s) and +2 Charisma, Hellish Resistance to fire damage, and Darkvision.
Giving Shuten a human-based background is a challenge, but you certainly act the part of the criminal more often than not. This gives you Deception and Stealth proficiencies.
Ability Scores
Make your Charisma as high as possible- there’s definitely something charming about you, given that golden kid keeps hanging around you despite rising odds of decapitation. Speaking of, make Constitution your next stop. Getting your head taken off does a lot of damage, and you have to be able to survive that. Your Dexterity should also be pretty good- you don’t wear much of anything, and yet you’ll probably want to live. Your Strength isn’t too bad- Oni generally have good strength, we just needed other stuff more. You’re not stupid, but Intelligence wasn’t high on the list, and finally, dump Wisdom. You take a shot every time you use your NP, that can’t be good for your wisdom saves.
Class Levels
1. Sorcerer 1: Oni don’t play by the rules, and neither do we. We’re making Shuten a Toxomancer, a class that didn’t exist before now, and whose existence is based on Plane Shift material, making its existence even more dubious. (For anyone wondering, it’s based on the Pyromancer class from Plane Shift Kaladesh, just with everything Fire replaced by Poison instead.) This gives you proficiency in Constitution and Charisma saves, as well as Insight and Persuasion. You certainly know how to run a party, at least.
Like all sorcerers, you can cast Spells thanks to your Charisma, which is your casting ability. Unlike most sorcerers, you come packing a Heart of Poison; whenever you cast a 1st level or higher spell that deals poison damage, creatures of your choice within 10′ of you take half your sorcerer level (minimum 1) in poison damage. So your aim’s a little off when you pour, you’re not hearing any complaints!
As far as cantrips go, grab Infestation because why not, it’s poison damage, Acid Splash and Poison Spray for more thematic damage dealing, and Shape Water to control your drink after it’s been poured. For spells, you can cast Mage Armor to help not die and Ray of Sickness to sling drinks around at a farther range.
2. Fighter 1: Don’t worry, we’re not getting too crazy with multiclassing this time. We’re just here for sword skills and Unarmed Fighting. You can literally rip people’s organs out with your bare hands, you should at least be good at punching people. You can also use a Second Wind for a bit of healing as a bonus action once per short rest. There’s always time for a drink break.
3. Sorcerer 2: Second level sorcerers become a Font of Magic, giving you Sorcery Points that can be turned into spell slots and vice versa. Thanks to your Legacy of Phlegethos, you can also cast Charm Person once per long rest as a second level spell, forcing up to two humanoids to make a wisdom save (DC 8+proficiency bonus+charisma modifier) or be charmed by you until the spell ends in an hour or you do anything harmful to it. Slapping people sobers them up- don’t do it.
You can also cast Tasha’s Caustic Brew this level, throwing acidic drinks as long as you can keep your concentration up (for a minute), which clings to enemies until they wash it off. Wine stains, am I right?
4. Sorcerer 3: Third level sorcerers can use Metamagic to change up their spells at the cost of sorcery points. Specifically, you can use Heightened Spell to give your enemies disadvantage on their sobriety saving throws, or Extended Spell to keep the party going even longer.
Speaking of, at this level you can break out the cheap hooch by casting Blindness/Deafness, mostly the former.
5. Sorcerer 4: Use your first Ability Score Improvement to round up your Charisma and add a bit to your Constitution as well. You also get one last gift from your Legacy, letting you cast Suggestion once per long rest as well. This lets you charm a creature that fails a wisdom saving throw, forcing them to perform an activity that isn’t obviously harmful within or for the next 8 hours. Once again, don’t hit them.
Speaking of spells, this level lets you cast Sword Burst because you’re not going to be good with physical attacks for a while and Enhance Ability to imbue yourself or others with oni strength, giving them advantage on strength checks. (Or dexterity, constitution, intelligence...)
6. Sorcerer 5: Fifth level sorcerers can find Magical Guidance in their magical powers, letting you re-roll a failed ability check if you spend a sorcery point. You also learn how to cast Sweet-Smelling (Stinking) Cloud, a 20′ radius cloud that obscures the area, and forces all creatures in it to make a constitution saving throw each turn. Those who fail waste their turn in a drunken stupor.
7. Sorcerer 6: Sixth level Toxomancers have Poison in the Veins, meaning you resist poison damage, and your poison spells ignore resistance. Your wine gets sweeter, and you can still get high on your own supply! You can also cast Hypnotic Pattern now, which is roughly the same as Stinking Cloud, but there’s only one chance to get charmed.
8. Sorcerer 7: Seventh level sorcerers get fourth level spells, like Conjure Shadow Demon. I’ll level with you- I was really hoping we could get Contingency later so you could summon a demon upon your own death for a funky sort of guts, but Wizards just had to be special and keep it for themselves. You can always just say you’re bringing Ibaraki along for some fun.
9. Sorcerer 8: Use this ASI to grab the Poisoner feat. It lets you ignore poison resistance on all damage rolls, not just spells, you can poison blades faster, and you can make potent poisons with a poisoner’s kit, which let your weapons deal extra poison damage and poison the target for a turn.
You can also cast Confusion to throw your enemies into further disarray.
10. Sorcerer 9: Use your first 5th level spell slots to grab Cloudkill for a wine powerful enough to melt people, dealing 5d8 poison damage to any creature that fails its constitution save in the cloud.
11. Sorcerer 10: For your next Metamagic option, grab Subtle Spell. You’re not very loud in general. You can also cast Prestidigitation, because we’re running out of good cantrips, and you can make good on that “drinking people” threat with Enervation! If the target fails a dexterity save, they take 4d8 necrotic damage, and you gain hp equal to half the damage taken. For the next minute (with concentration) you can automatically deal the damage each round as an action.
12. Sorcerer 11: Now that you have sixth level spell slots, you can cast Tasha’s Otherworldly Guise, turning you into a proper oni! While it’s active, you’re Immune to fire and poison damage, as well as the poisoned condition. You get +2 AC and can attack twice as an action, plus your weapon attacks are magical and you can use charisma instead of strength for the attack and damage rolls. (You also get a flying speed, and there’s an upper planes version, but shush.)
13. Sorcerer 12: Use this ASI to max out your Charisma for the most oniing an oni can oni!
14. Sorcerer 13: For your seventh level spell, grab Power Word Pain to get one creature with less than 100 HP severely drunk. Each turn they’re charmed, they can only move 10 feet per turn, and has disadvantage on all attacks, checks, and non-constitution saves. Every time they try to cast a spell, they have to pass a constitution save first, or waste the spell. At the end of each turn they can try to pass a constitution save to end the effect.
15. Sorcerer 14: You’ve become so infused with alcohol that when you get hit wine pops out, like a boozy piñata. Thanks to Toxomancer’s Fury, you can react to taking a melee hit to deal your level in poison damage to the attacker, ignoring any resistance.
16. Sorcerer 15: Your drinks get even more potent thanks to your eighth level spell Power Word Stun. This instantly stuns a creature with 150 hit points or less, and it stays that way unless it can pass a constitution save at the end of its turn. Feel free to hit this one, they won’t feel it until the morning.
17. Sorcerer 16: Odd numbers make us sad, so use this ASI to round up your constitution with Durable. Now each hit die is guaranteed to give you twice your constitution modifier. Given that means you’re getting at least a 6 on a d6, that’s pretty good.
18. Sorcerer 17: For your last Metamagic grab Empowered Spell, why not. Your drinks are already so potent they can instantly kill a human thanks to Power Word Kill, which can kill any target with less than 100 hp.
19. Sorcerer 18: You’re now so steeped in wine it’s soaked into your very essence. Your Poisonous Soul makes you immune to poison damage. Any spell or effect you create also ignores poison resistance and treats poison damage immunity as poison resistance. I would definitely argue that this would include any poisons made from your poisoner’s kit, because who doesn’t love a little boozing? (I should point out this means you’ve got wine strong enough to give Jing Ke a buzz.)
20. Sorcerer 19: Use your final ASI to grab the Tough feat for 40 extra HP. Not the flashiest way to end a build, but at least it’s not sorcerous restoration.
Pros:
Poison might be a common resistance/immunity, but you can eat through those defenses and deal with them as they come up.
Your charms and poisons alike give you great crowd control options, in both lethal and nonlethal flavors. You can shut down an angry mob you want to reason with thanks to Stinking Cloud or Hypnotic Pattern, or just slaughter them all with Cloudkill!
With almost 200 HP, features that rely on close range and getting hit, and Tasha’s Otherworldly Guise, you can hop onto the front line for a bit to give your regular tank a rest- at least for a round or two.
Cons:
You can get around resistances later, but your early levels still have you relying on Poison and Acid damage for most of your attacks. Like I said above, you’re still relying on the most resisted/immune to damage type in the game.
Unlike your poison, your other spells never get any less resisted. Tasha’s Caustic Brew is one of your most efficient damage spells from level 3 until level 10. Or at least it would be, if it wasn’t for being acid based.
Your Low Wisdom means you might fall for someone else’s charms as easily as they fall for your own. Suddenly being a tough, poison-spewing demon isn’t a good thing. Ah well, there’s always next party.

Same Difference Ch.18
A/N: Shoutout to Kurono, The Lawful Evil Wingman™.
Making the long trek down the hallways, Nanami began mulling over her hypotheses about what transpired. She opened the door to find Chisa—I mean Overhaul—looking pensively and found herself glad they were on the same, confusing page.
“So, I think we should go over the chain of events.”
“Agreed.” He concurred as he pulled up the notes he made earlier and she went to the whiteboard to write.
“Ok, so at 5:30 AM we woke up like usual,” how easily the ‘like usual’ part came out after only a week together made her stomach flip, but she did her best to ignore it, clearing her throat before continuing,” we ate the same thing for dinner, and neither of us had eaten breakfast or ingested anything besides water.”
Having no idea what caused their shared quirk, they thought it best to keep track of their eating habits and refrain from taking any medication unless absolutely necessary. It resulted in a couple days of cranky Nanami as she rode out the odd headache every now and again, but it was just another rule to help ensure their results were as accurate as possible.
“At 6 AM, we began running. And I remember my phone reading 6:15 AM when I changed the song, so the reaction had to have happened around 6:20 AM.” She said, finishing the timeline on the white board. “At 15 minutes in you wouldn’t have been using the latent abilities of overhaul yet, so we were both neutral at this point.”
Considering the facts for a moment, he interjected,” I think this would work best if we tried to replicate this scene exactly to our best ability in the testing area. Kurono will spectate so we can avoid injury like last time.”
“I figured,” her voice gave away a hint of apprehension as her back was turned to him, still facing the board but writing nothing. She knew whatever it was was an accident, but the possibility of sustaining injuries like she had before was still very unappealing. She heard a chair move and then footsteps.
“As I said, it won’t happen again. This is just a reenactment, you’ll be safe.”
She turned to see him a safe distance away but could tell the look in his eyes was sincere. After a beat, she simply nodded, “Ok, let’s do this.”

The next day, they woke up at the same time and went out doing the same routine, except they would jog in the testing area so Kurono could take notes and supervise. When the reaction happened, he’d at least be able to slow them down and mitigate the intense injuries from before. Nanami put in her earphones, listening to the same music and making the same movements as the timer they’d made to signal events buzzed, letting them know when to begin each interaction. They jogged around the room at the same pace and the timer sounded again, signaling them to begin talking, or rather arguing.
“It wouldn’t make sense to ignore that we were pretty riled up at the time, even though neither of us activated our quirk. So, do what you do best and get on my nerves.”
“I was going to say the exact same thing.”
“You’ll have to escalate this further, your heart rates have risen, but they’re still not high enough.” Kurono remarked, checking the charts. Thankfully Nanami had been wearing a BitFit when running so they knew the goal was at least 189 BPM. As it stood, they were only at 150 with only another 4 minutes to get it up.
Thinking quickly, Kurono decided it wouldn’t be very plausible for them to work themselves up if they were aware of it. He thought it best to help, “By the way, Dr. Watanabe, did you still need me to text that guy friend of yours for you to reschedule your date? I’ll need to drive a bit so the signal hits the right cell tower, but Tanaka just sounded so excited to see you again.”
At this Nanami was a bit confused. She was supposed to reschedule her dinner date with Tanaka, but Kurono had already done that last week and both of them knew it. What’s he talking about…
“…Date?” Overhaul’s voice was low and accusatory.
“Yeah, we go on them all the time, but I’ve had to put them on hold since this whole obligatory quarantine with you.” She replied plainly.
“’All the time’.” He intoned, sounding almost disgusted at her response.
“That’s what I said... Is there a proble-- ”
“Exactly how long has this been happening?”
“A while.” She wasn’t sure why the air had shifted between them, but his temper was starting to grate her nerves, “I followed procedure and haven’t left this entire time. Why do you even care?” she asked half-jokingly.
“I do not care. It is physically impossible for me to care any less about you and who you associate with.”
“What the -- why are you being such an ass?” She said getting closer, similar to before.
They continued to argue as Kurono calmy monitored their vitals, satisfied they were now at the appropriate BPM. Making his notes, he looked up to see them dangerously close and noticed something they hadn’t considered before. There was usually a noticeable tension between them, but today it seemed more like the air was almost electric or filled with a static of some sort. Soon, due to their proximity and Nanami’s tendency to gesture with her hands when she spoke, Kurono took a gamble. Hoping they were too entranced in their own spat to notice he quietly and quickly walked up to them stopping short to cut them both with his hair. Both of them now slowed, he moved them into the safety of the observation deck, hoping his gamble would pay off as Overhaul and Nanami looked royally pissed. He explained before unfreezing them, “You know I wouldn’t do it unless I absolutely had to. Just look closely at the spot I moved you two from.” Unfreezing them, they tabled the argument to observe. Then an explosion happened, just like before.
They gathered around the monitor in the room and played back the recording, zooming in on the spot and fast forwarding to the exact moment the explosion happened. Seeing it in slow motion, a spiderweb of blue light fractured outwardly before the explosion happened. It looked like lightning and was just as fast, so missing it in the midst of the blast was easy. Watching it back again, they all shared a look of realization.
“It’s the air.” They said in unison.
“I’ll compile the footage. Dr. Watanabe, could you retrieve the supplies for collecting blood and sweat samples as well as the barometer? Fluid samples and air conditions need to be collected and noted as soon as possible,” Kurono reasoned.
“Agreed, be right back!” Nanami nodded, jogging out of the room.
Kurono turned to Overhaul, the terminal he was using to monitor their vitals still in hand, “Kai, you can relax a bit, I only needed it to be 189 not 21—”
“Do not speak to me.”
Kurono sighed, realizing it would be best to put his friend out of his misery before he said anything else stupid today to potentially ruin his chances with the good doctor, “I won’t say another word, but… it’s probably important to note Dr. Tanaka has a cute wife—not as attractive as our dear doctor, but a looker nonetheless. She and Nanami seem to be great friends…” glancing out the corner of his eye he could see Overhaul’s brow furrow as he reluctantly listened,” All three of them hang out pretty regularly, you know. They go on these things called ‘dinner dates’. They poke fun at Dr. Watanabe for being single, but she seems to enjoy her time with them nonetheless. Just a bit of information I thought I’d share.”
At this Overhaul’s head slowly turned to his direction, an incredulous look on his face as Kurono finished speaking, “You motherfu—”
“Dr. Watanabe! You’re back.” Kurono interjected with a level of enthusiasm that felt foreign as he wisely walked over to her, creating distance between himself and his friend.
“Um… yes. Here I am.” She said, a bit confused as to why the usually even-keeled Kurono was so animated while Overhaul now looked like he was having an existential crisis. “You guys good...or?”
“We’re fine.”
“We’re great!”
Not wanting to be in the middle of whatever had happened in the 2 minutes she’d been gone, she thought it best to gloss over it. “Oki doki then… let’s collect these samples.”
Kurono withdrew blood from Nanami then placed gauze on her to absorb the sweat before walking over to Overhaul to do the same. His glare told him it was best not to be within striking distance and promptly handed the supplies to Nanami. “I’ll just be back in the lab computer lab while you guys get some air readings and finish collecting the sweat samples. Be back in 30.” Kurono said while hurriedly collecting his laptop and the camera’s SD card before leaving. He spared his friend a sympathetic look that was spitefully ignored before closing the door to the observation room behind him.
They sat in silence for the first 5 minutes as Nanami tried to think of a way to break the ice. Having been in the situation so often, she felt like an expert and decided to just go for it, “So, what was that all about?”
“What was what all about?”
“Oh, you know, the plotline of the soap opera that was on last night,” she mocked in an airhead voice before continuing seriously, “—you know exactly what I mean. Don’t play dumb, you were so mean back there!”
“Of course, I was.”
“I can’t believe yo—wait what?”
“I said of course, I had to be rude. We needed to recreate the scene and you were too calm in comparison to that morning for it to be accurate.”
She raised her hand to point at him, her mouth opening to speak, before stopping short and putting her index to her lips, a pensive look on her face. “So, that was just you… acting?”
“Exactly. Your acting skills being so subpar, I’m not surprised you didn’t recognize it.”
Brushing off his comment, she continued thinking, “But how did you get your heart rate up so high?”
“Practice. Plenty of people can control their heart rate and work themselves up with enough discipline.”
She didn’t have anything to say to that, feeling a bit foolish for letting her feelings cloud her judgement, “Well, wow,” she chuckled derisively to herself,” now I feel silly for getting genuinely worked up at you. Sorry abou—”
“Don’t be. It was for the experiment; your reaction was as it should have been.”
“… Ah. Alright then. Well, how do you want to spend the next… 23 minutes? Besides just working up a sweat, of course.” He gave her a look and she realized it could have been worded better as she rubbed her temples hoping to hide her now very warm cheeks, “... I’m just going to stop talking for the foreseeable future.”
“That’s acceptable, however,” he looked over to her his hand extended as his eyes glanced from her to her bag in the corner.
“… I hate you.” She grabbed her planner and a pen, flipping it to the bookmarked page. Begrudgingly, she handed it over, refusing to give him the satisfaction of eye contact. He’d been merciful letting a multitude of opportunities slide since that night in the bar, so this time she knew it had to be done.
He placed the tally mark next to her doodle portrait as he first had months ago, satisfied the score was close to being even. “Now, let’s talk theories.”

IPL Round Up: Week 1

It is one week into the start of the IPL and to everyone’s surprise, Mumbai Indians are not top! RCB have taken the tournament by storm, winning three from three under Virat Kohli’s leadership. At the other end of the table, Sunrises Hyderabad are propping up the table without a win. Although they have played two of the top sides, pundits and fans expected a much better start for Hydrabad.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB have always had a star-studded side but this seems to be the year that it has finally come together. Kohli has moved to the top of the order to replace Aaron Finch, allowing Maxwell to slip in at number four. Maxwell went all of last season without scoring a fifty or hitting any sixes. This season everything seems to have clicked for him and he has returned to the player we know him to be. Maxwell is the leading run scorer with 176 runs at an average of almost 60 with a strike rate of 150. He has been ably assisted by AB de Villiers, who has come in towards the end of the innings and really excelled with a strike rate of 190! He has played two match winning performances so far: taking RCB right to the death against Mumbai and hit 76 against KKR today.
RCB have also been helped on the bowling front by leading wicket taker Harshal Patel and New Zealand pace man Kyle Jamieson. Patel took five in the first match and has continued his form since. Jamieson has been more expensive than Patel but has also chipped in with some handy runs down the order. RCB also have a threatening spin trio of Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed and Yuzvendra Chahal. All have had impacts on the matches but none with a match winning performance. As the tournament continues, I expect them to take more wickets and become more dangerous with the balls due to the pitches wearing.
Delhi Capitals
Last years runners up have had a varied start to season with a high scoring win and tight loss. They have an Indian packed batting line up with fifties for Dhawan, Shaw and Pant so far and have relied on Woakes in the first match and Rabada in the second to take wickets alongside opening bowler Avesh Khan. Surprise package of last season, Anrich Nortje is yet to play due to Woakes’ performances in the first matches while Nortje was playing for South Africa. It is likely he will come in for Tom Curran or Steve Smith as the tournament progresses. Curran has struggled to make a good impact on the tournament so far, being hit by Chris Morris to lose the match against Rajasthan and Smith can interchange with Indian vice captain Ajinkya Rahane as an anchor at number three.
Delhi will be hoping for their top order too keep making runs and converting their fifties into large scores and hopefully hundreds. Aussie all rounder, Marcus Stoinis has failed to score many runs yet and was hit for 15 in his one over of the tournament but todays innings bodes well as he guided Delhi to what turned out to be an easy chase after Dhawan batted very impressively for his 92.
Mumbai Indians
Rohit Sharma’s side were heavy favourites before the tournament started and since their first match against RCB have shown why. They lost a tight first match but have since shown they can hold their nerve against KKR and Sunrises in two matches that went right down to the wire. Rahul Chahar and Krunal Pandya have used the spinning wickets of Chennai well and are leading the attack well with Bumrah and Boult dominating at the death with perfect execution of their yorkers.
Their three matches have been low scorers with no side passing 160 yet which hasn’t allowed for their long batting line up to show off its skill. Suryakumar Yadav has continued his form from 2020 and leads their side in runs scored and is the only player in their squad to pass fifty. The return of Quinton de Kock seems to have made their batting line up more rounded, even after Lynn scored 49 in their season opener but Pollard and Hardik Pandya have not managed to find their form from the last few seasons as finishers.
Chennai Super Kings
CSK are surprisingly high on this table in my opinion (even if it due to Net Run Rate). They have a very mixed squad. It is full of all rounders with Bravo and Thakur down at numbers nine and ten, but their average age is extraordinarily high. They have six players over the age of 35 and half of their squad over 30. Dhoni seemed to have lost it a bit last year in the UAE and hasn’t found the form he had in the early years of the tournament.
Sam Curran and Moeen Ali are the two English players in the squad and have both been in fine form so far. Moeen Ali has shown why he was wasted sitting on the RCB bench over the past few years. He is their top scorer after two matches and is striking at 150, while Sam Curran is coming in lower down the order but still smashing the ball all round the park. He has a strike rate over 200 and won the battle against his older brother in the first match, taking him for over 20 in an over.
CSK failed to win the first match after a slow start meant they put up a score of 188, well below par and allowed the Delhi Capitals to chase it down with eight balls spare. In the second match, Deepak Chahar tore through the Punjab Kings top order taking 4-13 and limiting Punjab to 106 before they chased it down in 15 overs.
Rajasthan Royals
The English contingent of the IPL have had two ok first games. They have heavily relied on captain Sanju Samson in the first match, who blasted his third IPL century and was a few metres away from hitting a six off the final ball and carrying his side home to victory against Punjab Kings. The main controversy of this match was that Samson turned down a single off the penultimate ball to put Chris Morris on strike needing four to win. Morris was visibly angry to be sent back by his captain but in my opinion, Samson was more likely to hit a boundary (either the six needed to win or a four to take it to a super over) than his South African counterpart. The one criticism I have would be that Samson could have possibly come back for two and sacrificed Morris at the non-strikers end but would have risked running himself out.
Morris then showed why he Samson should have taken the single in the Royals second match, bludgeoning 36 from 18 after David Miller fell for 62. After the match, Morris said he knew his role was to slog at the end and was happy to do it for the team.
The biggest new for Rajasthan was that Ben Stokes would be out for three months and the rest of the tournament due to a fractured finger in the first match. This allows fellow Englishman Jos Buttler to slide up to the top of the order and Miller to take his place in the middle order. Buttler had an outstanding tournament a few years ago after he moved to the top of the order for Rajasthan and dominated so it is not all bad news for Royals fans.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Before the tournament, I predicted KKR would just about make the cut for the playoffs due to Eoin Morgan’s captaincy and their world class overseas players. This hasn’t been the case yet. Morgan has failed to fire with the bat; Russel, one of the most devastating batsmen ever in both T20 cricket and the IPL, has been more use with the ball; and both Shakib and Cummins haven’t made the biggest impact yet. I am sure this will soon change though.
For the first three matches, KKR have relied on their home grown talent at the top of the order to score their runs. Rana, Gill and Tripathi have all made runs at a good rate but KKR have failed to push on from being in good positions in matches with a lack of quick runs down the order. Against Mumbai, “DreRus” took 5-15 from two to slow Mumbai in the final few overs. However, he then struggled with the bat and scored a tentative 9 from 15 as KKR fell 10 runs short.
KKR have failed to win the tight matches so far which seems to be due to a lack of finishing ability from the middle order, if they can fix this problem (and with Morgan as captain, I am sure they can) then I think they have a good chance of finishing in the top four.
Punjab Kings
Even with KL “King Legend” Rahul averaging over 70 at 150, Punjab Kings (formerly King’s XI Punjab) have struggled so far this year. They have just lost to Dehli Capitals after setting an impressive 195 to win but their inexperienced bowling line up failed to defend it. Rahul and Agrawal put on 122 with Agrawal smashing 69 from 36, while his partner crawled along to 61 off 51 before Hooda and Shahrukh Khan came in to blast the ball round at the end.
This was the second high scoring match they have been apart of. They have a strong and experienced top order but have a younger and less experienced bowling line up and almost no tail a Richardson bats at number seven. Arshdeep Singh is only 22 and this is both Meredith and Richardson’s first seasons in the IPL. Shami is their only seam bowler over 25, but is backed up by two experience spinners. You could see this inexperience in the match vs Delhi as Dhawan took the game away from Punjab. As the tournament progresses, it will be interesting to see how the younger players will adapt to conditions and deal with an increase in pressure and if Punjab try to lengthen their batting lineup.
Sunrises Hyderabad
David Warner’s side are sat at the bottom of the table without a win. They have lost three close matches. With three players in the top 11 for runs scorers so far, you might expect such a strong squad to be further up the table, but the lack of power hitters down the order seems to be catching up with Sunrises. Bairstow slotted in at number four in the first matches to accommodate for Saha up the top and performed well but struggled to stay at the crease during the key moments. He was caught slogging across the line when Hyderabad were in a commanding position, causing a batting collapse and loss against KKR and has since moved back up to opening.
Hyderabad have been changing their team a huge amount so far during the IPL. They have played six overseas players, as well as having Kane Williamson on the sideline. Hyderabad were often selected as the side most likely to steal the crown from Mumbai before the season started but unless they can find some finishers, it seems unlikely that this will happen.
Rashid Khan, as usual, has been performing very well. He has four wickets with an economy rate of 5.33. He hasn’t blown any teams away yet, but arguably more importantly, his economy is under six, building pressure and helping others in the side take wickets. If he can keep this up, it is likely Hyderabad will continue restricting oppositions to low totals.
Predictions
From the first week it is always hard to tell how the season will progress. I think it is likely that Mumbai, RCB and Delhi will progress to the knock-out stages but the fourth place is up for grabs. Right now I think I would go for KKR, just because they haven’t hit their heights yet and I can see them start winning matches they shouldn’t if Morgan and Russell get into form.

Soft rays of sunshine woke Kit earlier than he would have usually liked.
He was never a morning person, though breakfast was definitely his favourite time of day. He liked how even after three years, Jem always brought him chocolate croissants, a habit that with time turned to be somewhat of a problem, specifically when Mina developed a fondness to the pastry herself.. though that wasn’t what Kit minded. It wasn’t that Mina liked all croissants, it was that she liked his.
With a sigh and a pang of longing for his baby sister’s annoying habits, Kit pushed the blanket off him and leaped out of the bed.
Kit stretched out his hand towards the window, feeling the sweet warmness of the light caressing his skin, his completely ordinary, pale gold skin.
Good, he thought, no leftovers.
That thought brought other thoughts, other memories to his mind. Kit felt the quickening of his pulse just from hearing his name in his ears, like a lost island he was dreaming to find, a mantra chanting itself in his heart for years, Ty, Ty, Ty. He whispered his name to the morning sun, and felt the word like a kiss on lips.
A loud knock on the door startled Kit out of his thoughts.
Without thinking, he walked to the door and flung it open. It was too late when he realised that he was dressed only in his boxers, and for a fleeting second he feared that it would be Ty. After last night, a close to nudity morning show would probably be a bad idea.
Luckily, or not, Ty wasn’t the person knocking on Kit’s door. It was Carl Lindguist.
“Oh, it’s you.” Kit was so relieved, he didn’t even mind Carl’s sallow face.
“You look cheerful” Carl mumbled with evident surprise.
“Yeah well, it’s not because I’m thrilled to see you..” Kit grinned, “I just had a really good night sleep”.
Kit leaned on the door frame and eyed Carl with an uninterested expression.
“Um.. don’t you want to put some clothes on?”
Carl stared at the floor in evident discomfort, which only made Kit feel bolder.
“Nah, I’m good”
Kit crossed his arms over his chest, fully aware of how it made his biceps bulge. He really couldn’t think of a better way to start his day than to make that bastard uncomfortable.
“Does it bother you?” He asked with mock concerns.
“No” Carl answered quickly, too quickly, and the blush on his cheeks deepened.
“Are you sure? Do I make you feel nervous?”
Kit was practically giddy, not that Carl would notice, since his eyes never left the floor. It was a nice floor, though. Solid wooden surface, maybe Carl was into interior design.
“Listen, I’m only here because Adam asked me to see if you could ask Bridget for the institute’s car. You know her and Evelyn better, and there’s a better chance she would give it to you than to us.”
“Wow, Adam must not like you very much.. not that I blame him.”
“What makes you say that?” Carl seemed honestly offended.
“Well, he sent you to talk to me, knowing how little you think of my company..”
To Kit’s surprise, that seemed to catch the centurion off guard.
“I don’t..”
“Oh come on, Carl.. there’s no one around. You don’t have to work so hard to be mean to me.”
“I don’t usually have to, it just come naturally.. like breathing.”
Kit burst out laughing. “Nice! That’s the first solid burn you have ever produced. There might still be hope for you, weasel face.”
Kit leaned away from the door frame and looked Carl in the eye.
“Tell Adam I’ll take care of it” he said, and slammed the door in Carl’s baffled face.
He barely managed to put his gear pants on when came another knock on the door.
Maybe Carl missed his abs.
“I have my pants on now, Lindguist.. the conversation will be a lot less captivating-“
The word dissolved on his lips, for this time, it wasn’t Carl who was waiting outside his door. It was Ty.
He looked at him, his damp hair curling at the edges. He was slightly taller than him, but something about his posture made him seem small, almost fragile. The pale ivory of his skin gleamed like silk, and Kit swallowed hard at the memory of the feel of him, smooth and hard under his touch.
“Hi” Ty’s voice was a low, almost inaudible murmur.
His eyes flew around Kit, scanning his body quickly, like he couldn’t help himself. Kit glanced down at his bare skin, etched with traces of runes that faded, down to his naval, where the last button of his pants left unbuttoned. He felt himself flush, his thoughts before he opened the door to Carl flashed inside his head like an alarm echoing between his ears, a close to nudity morning show would probably be a bad idea. He tried to say something in response, but the words never came.
“I.. wanted to talk to you.” Ty looked like he was trying to muster the strength to say something else, but all he could manage was “please”.
Kit cleared his throat. “Yeah, sure.”
Ty made a movement, as if to go inside Kit’s room. He hastily lifted his arm to block the entrance.
Ty lifted his gaze to Kit’s face, a flash of confusion and hurt clouded his beautiful features.
Kit wanted to punch himself right then and there. Of course Ty thought he could enter Kit’s room.. why wouldn’t he? After what happened between them last night, Kit would have thought the same thing. But he couldn’t risk it, he couldn’t allow himself to be alone in a room with Ty. Not right now, when he was half clothed and almost sick with the need to hold him, to put his arms around him and feel him melt into arms.
Kit always experienced desire as something manageable. A pull in his stomach, a pleasant sort of feeling, like rain tapping on his window in a cloudy night. But as he looked at the curve of Ty’s lips, he felt it like a lightning storm. He heard it thundering down his bones, piercing his body in places he hardly ever felt before, the deep ones, those who ached with the loss of his past. But it was a different ache now, and he was a different boy.
He sank his teeth deep into his lower lip, until a faint taste of blood coated the thin layer of memories.
“I.. should get dressed first.” His voice was horas, “I’ll meet you down in the study?”
Ty nodded and turned towards the stairs, leaving Kit hyperventilating on the foot of his door.

Kit put on his gear so fast he wondered how he didn’t fall flat on his face in the process of it. the weapons belt hung loosely on his hips, and his fingers played with the Herondale dagger’s hilt as he entered the study room.
He tried to calm his thoughts, to think of Mina’s small giggles as she bounced in his arms.
From the second she was born, without his own volition, a sparkling chain of love seemed to tie him to her with such force he almost couldn’t breath sometimes. He loved nothing and no one in this world more than he loved his baby sister. Of course, he owed everything to Jem and Tessa, and he loved them more than he ever thought he could love two 150 old senior citizens of the downworld.. they were his parents. But Mina was the light in his life.
He played the image of her before his eyes, that porcelain like demon child that managed to hold his whole heart in her tiny hands, like it was an acorn.
With that unsteady calmness, he looked at Ty.
He was leaning at the windowsill, gazing at the darkening sky above. Kit could see the tension in his body from how he held himself, stiff and tight like an arrow, ready to fly straight into his chest.
“Ty..”
He turned to face him with an eagerness Kit didn’t expect.
“Kit,” Ty whispered breathlessly. “I wanted to talk to you.”
“Yeah.. you said that” Kit smiled at him, he couldn’t not smile. There was an energy to Ty, something that scared and excited Kit all at once.
He assumed he wanted to talk about last night. He wished he would, but also didn’t know what he would say to him. How could he reassure him, if he even wanted his reassurance, that he didn’t send him away because he didn’t want him? Or maybe Ty wanted to tell him last night had been a mistake.. maybe he only wanted to let Kit down gently, knowing, like he must already know, how Kit feels. But that wasn’t something Kit wanted to linger on, his feelings towards Ty. He never managed to escape them, but ever since they met again, all he could do is try. For his sake, and for Ty’s.
“Do you remember how I once told you that there were things I knew, about Livvy, things I didn’t know about anyone else?”
Kit wasn’t expecting this, but nodded nonetheless.
“She is my twin, so I knew them, the way she pokes her lips when she’s upset, how fire always seemed to unnerve her, even now. The way she laughs with her eyes even if she’s furious.”
Yeah, Kit thought with an ache in his heart, that sounds like Livvy.
“And I thought I could only ever know these things about her, and not about anyone else. not even about my family. But with you..”
Ty seemed to struggle with the words, and Kit couldn’t blame him. The air seemed to barely reach his lungs, and he waited in silence while Ty found his voice, and continued.
“When I first met you, you seemed to know these things about me. Everyone else had to learn, but you, with all of your mundane knowledge and movies and comics.. you, who had no way of knowing, you just.. knew. And the things I didn’t know about anyone else, those were the things I wanted to know about you. But when you left-”
His voice cracked, like a piece of wood, trying to resist a fire.
“When you left I thought I was wrong. I thought I never knew anything, that I never will.. because you didn’t want to be my friend anymore, you didn’t want me to-“
Kit couldn’t breath, couldn’t move, which was probably good since he knew that if could he would probably run to Ty, fall on his knees and beg him to forgive him, to forgive that stupid boy that he was.
“But you sent me letters, and I didn’t know what they meant. I didn’t know how to read your emotions like I could read Livvy’s. I didn’t. But I tried. And than we met again, and I tried so hard to show you how much I cared.. But in my head, through my actions, I was still alone.”
Ty’s eyes were so bright, the grey in them looked almost white. He was trying to will Kit to understand.
“I chose what I chose, I did what I did, for me.. not for anyone else, like you once told me.”
Kit opened his mouth to protest, but Ty already continued.
“Don’t say I didn’t, you know I won’t exaggerate this. And the worst part of it was that I didn’t notice how I was doing it all over again, I didn’t notice that I was hurting you, that all I ever done was to hurt you, and that’s the last thing I ever wanted to do, Kit.”
Ty’s paler was inked with a fierce red, spreading on his cheeks like a drop of blood on a bed of snow, like in the mundane faerietale Kit read to himself when he was young.
“I know you have no reason to trust me, but I’m asking you to at least believe when I say that you were never nothing to me, never.
You were the opposite.”
Ty looked at him, straight at him, and the silver in his eyes seemed to melt and solidify all at once, like it was reaching the core of the earth. Like in his eyes were all of the answers to every question ever asked, and all he had to do is reach out and touch it.
Before Kit could think better of it, he took a step towards Ty. His mind was a blur of images, of the past and the present merging into Ty’s blazing smile. He could feel the clenching in his throat, hear the thunder of his heart, beating like a metronome, as if counting the steps he must take to get to Ty.
He took another, and Ty’s eyes were the thin rope on which he was walking. He knew there was nothing under him, nothing to hold him if he fell, but something inside him told him that he already had.
The door to the study room flung open, and Kit could hear Adam’s voice like it was a siren calling him from the middle of the sea. With an agonising effort he turned to look at him. He even looked blurred to him, like he was adjusting his eyes to look at ordinary things after staring too long at the sun.
“What?” Kit spluttered.
“I said, did you talk to Bridget already? About the car?”
With a look on Kit’s blank face he added apologetically “We really have to get going.”
“Right.. yeah I’m on it.”
Kit couldn’t risk a look at Ty, not when his stomach was made out of tight knots that seemed to be connected to the very spot Ty was standing on. He had to walk away, and hope he wouldn’t get pulled backwards the minute he walked out of the room.

The car smelled ancient, and in Kit’s opinion, it also looked ancient. They were probably going to be noticed less on a flying horse than in this mouldy thing. Not that he would have mentioned it to Bridget, who gave him a hard time even as he worked his most charming smile at her. She liked him, though.. and Adam was right, she wasn’t likely to allow them to take the car if it weren’t for him. Only the old maid could refuse a group of highly appreciated centurions, but that was the case.
As they packed their share of weapons in the truck, Kit had gone through the plan once more with Adam.
“So we drive you to the first location, and head to the second one. The first of us that find anything out of the ordinary calls the others and they come right away.”
Adam gave him a thumbs up.
“Now, I know we already gone through this, but are you sure you understand the Uber app, right?”
Kit saw Ty smile at the shared memory in the corner of his eye.
“Yeah, I got it.. don’t worry.”
Everybody entered the car, and Kit wasn’t surprised to find Ty by his side. He buckled the seatbelt and tapped the GPS app at his phone with a slightly shaking hand.
“Remind me the address to the second location?”
“Chislehurst Caves.”
It was Ty who answered, his deep voice sending uncontrollable shivers down Kit’s spine.
Kit started the car and turned on the radio. An old rock song Kit faintly remembered played itself through the silence between them.
He lowered his window and marvelled at the feeling of the wind in his hair.
The singer voice was like a caress, though something in the lyrics felt morbidly ominous.
He glanced a look at Ty, who opened his window as well. His right hand was out, dancing through the wind like a conductor’s. The music grew louder and Kit’s mind drifted to Ty’s words at the study, and to the swelling of his heart.
Kit lived with Jem and Tessa long enough to learn of his extended family. He knew about Will Herondale, the lies he told to protect his loved ones, and how it almost cost him everything. He knew of James and Stephan and Jace. He knew of the men in his family, and how they always suffered, and nearly always because of that thing, that thing that made them a Herondale. Jem would have called it a fierce heart, and maybe it was true.. but Kit figured he could keep the family resemblance down to the good looks.
He won’t do the same mistake almost every man of his bloodline had made. He will tell Ty the truth about himself, and if he’ll want him, even with everything that he is.. they will find a way to deal with his powers, together.
Because Kit had no doubts, as he looked at Ty’s illuminated profile, his hair blowing away like black dandelion in the wind.
He loved him. He knew that now, and the knowledge gave him strength. He loved him, and he will not lose him again.
The song came to an end, and Kit’s heart thumped with the last sentence, repeating itself over and over again like a sentence tattooing itself on his heart. “There is a light and it never goes out”.

My cousin came on getting up
Fahrenheit 66˚ and thickish fine autumn morning at 7 – settled with Cordingley and George - breakfast at 7 3/4 – talking to my father, and waited near 1/4 hour for him – took him in the carriage and off to Halifax –
Got to Mr Parker’s at 10 1/2 – had in 1st Mr Charles Robinson, Washington thinks the draining will cost £20 – Mr Parker read aloud his lease – executed – signed by both parties – then came the other messers Robinson father and sons Thomas and George – the mill had been given up this morning and the partnership dissolved I suppose just now, at Mr Parker’s office – said what I had said before to Thomas Robinson when he called here – George Robinson to be the tenant the rent to be £100 instead of £50 per annum – a strict running lease from year to year, but would make no difficulties – no objections to any agreement among themselves – should be happy to do anything to serve them all – the new lease to be dated 10 November next – wished to do everything that was honourable – no advantage should be taken of the giving up of the mill before the time – Old Robinson at last so satisfied, that he held out his hand, and, on my going away (at 12) shook mine, and said ‘Honour – You’ve nothing but honour’ – thank you, said I, that’s all I wish –
Left my father to walk home and drove to the bank – Mr Rawson unluckily just gone out – desired Thwaite to give my compliments and say I was going very early on Monday morning and begged him to hurry the mans (Mark Wilcock) coming to beg pardon – to let me have a little notice – I wished to have Mr Sunderland if possible and one or 2 more present, and to make the thing as imposing as possible for example’s sake and all our sakes –
Then got £150 in bills and cash – called but the Saltmarshes out – then to the vicarage – Mrs Musgrave out – Sat 10 minutes with the vicar – the church to be consecrated on the 22nd instant to Saint James, neither older nor younger particularized – the deeds made out now – too late to make the older now – If Mr Musgrave thought my 2 seats would be better one seat nearer to the pulpit, begged him to change them for I had just been at Whitley’s and he had mentioned the possibility of them being better a bit-farther from the Sunday school children – hoped Mr Musgrave would occasionally call on my aunt, and be so good as administer the sacrament to her and her maid about twice a year – he would with pleasure – very civil –
Then called on my aunt’s account on Mrs Abbot, and then on the Miss Ralphs and Mrs Briggs the banker’s wife for about 1/4 hour each, and for about 120 minutes each one Mrs William Rawson, and Mrs Veitch and Mrs Catherine Rawson all at home – and spoke to Percy the coach maker – paid for my aunt’s Bath wheel chair 8 guineas, and would take £10 for the gig (he out of the £12 he had a chance of getting for it to have £1 and George £1), the money to be paid on Saturday if as I thought his customer was inclined to agree –
Then drove to Stony Royde – Mrs Rawson much better than yesterday but had just dined and was going to lie down so did not see her – then to Wellhead at 2 3/4 – sent the horses to bait – stayed dinner – (dinner about 3 1/2) – Told Mr W- he and I always very good friends, I had made my will and left him and Mr William Priestley executors understanding that he would act, saying Mr William Priestley was a very good partner – good deal of talk about roads etc. he will come on Thursday morning to go with me to look at Godley Road and see my new foot path thro’ Wellroyde Wood –
Whether the people get an act for a rail road from Manchester to Leeds or not, our navigation will pay as it does for 4 or 5 years to come – some very knowing rich men at Todmarden think the rail road wont pay, and they wont increase their present subscriptions which are not large, and the thing cannot go on without the subscribers come forward tho’ attorneys and engineers are anxious to get the bill – the rail road from Manchester to Liverpool only pays 6 percent and it is the passengers which do that for the company loses on goods which they carry at 10/. a ton – the canal used to carry at 15/. but the rail road company began at 10/. saying that was a beginning they might lower still more - but such are the expenses of rail roads that the company is petitioning the navigation to raise the dues again for carriage per rail road at 10/. per ton does not pay – is a losing concern – thus Marian’s information of paying 14 percent is incorrect – If I wished to have anything to do with rail roads better wait till people begin to tire of the [specimen] and then buy at a discount –
Coffee on leaving the dining room and off from Wellhead at 5 55/.. the vicar and his wife and her sister Ann coming to tea – sorry I could not stay – Off to Pye nest – sat 25 minutes with Mr and Mrs Edwards – very civil – never saw Mrs Edwards more comfortably so – their son Henry gone on hurried tour to Italy with a Mr and Mrs Litchfield (heard at Haugh end he was to return by Lisbon) – then to mill house – about as long with Mrs William Henry Rawson and one of her daughters (all very glad to see me) and then to Haugh end for 35 minutes – found Mrs [Henry Priestley] and Mr Salisbury P- [Priestley] and a vulgarish friend from the South (Miss Larken) at tea – played the agreeable much more to their amusement apparently than really to my own, and at home in an hour at 9 1/4 –
Had a basin of soup – sat talking 3/4 hour tête à tête to my aunt and came to my room at 10 1/2 – very fine day – Fahrenheit 64˚ at 11 3/4 p.m. read over draft of George Robinson’s lease of the mill – counted over money etc.

Mark Harmon Named 2019 NFF Gold Medal Recipient
On Dec. 10, the NFF will present its highest honor to Harmon in recognition of his roots as a football scholar-athlete and subsequent accomplishments as a leader in the field of entertainment. IRVING, Texas (May 16, 2019) – The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced today that former UCLA quarterback Mark Harmon has been named the 2019 recipient of the NFF Gold Medal in recognition of his exceptional accomplishments, unblemished reputation and for reflecting the values of amateur football. He will be honored for his achievements during the 62nd NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 10 at the New York Hilton Midtown in New York City, which will also celebrate the 150th anniversary of college Football.
"As we prepare to celebrate the 150th anniversary of college football, Mark Harmon captures exactly what we hope to inspire in future generations of young football players, making him the perfect recipient for the NFF's highest honor," said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. "An NFF National Scholar-Athlete at UCLA in the early 1970s, Mark took that same relentless drive to succeed, applying it to his career as an actor and unequivocally becoming one of the most successful stars of his generation. He has earned this honor many times over, and we are extremely proud to add his name to the esteemed list of past NFF Gold Medal recipients."
The highest and most prestigious award presented by the National Football Foundation, the Gold Medal recognizes an outstanding American who has demonstrated integrity and honesty; achieved significant career success; and has reflected the basic values of those who have excelled in amateur sport, particularly football. First presented to President Dwight D. Eisenhower at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner in 1958, the Gold Medal boasts an impressive list of past recipients, including seven presidents, four generals, three admirals, one Supreme Court Justice, 29 corporate CEOs and chairmen, actor John Wayne and baseball immortal Jackie Robinson. Harmon was born and raised in Southern California; the son of actress Elyse Knox and Heisman Trophy winner Tom Harmon, a 1954 College Football Hall of Fame inductee from Michigan. He attended The Harvard School (now known as Harvard-Westlake) in Los Angeles, playing football, baseball and rugby. On the gridiron, he mostly took the field as a running back and safety, only appearing in four games at quarterback. He broke his elbow as a junior, and did not play varsity football as a senior.
Not recruited out of high school, Harmon headed to Pierce Junior College in Woodland Hills, California, and he quarterbacked the team to a 7-2 record in 1971, earning All-America laurels. His performance earned him multiple scholarship offers, including Oklahoma in an effort led by Barry Switzer, the offensive coordinator at the time and a future College Football Hall of Fame coach, to recruit him. Harmon opted to stay in his hometown of Los Angeles, playing for UCLA head coach Pepper Rodgers and assistant coaches Homer Smith, Lynn Stiles and Terry Donahue, also a future College Football Hall of Fame coach.
Playing alongside future College Football Hall of Fame inductees Randy Cross and John Sciarra, Harmon helped orchestrate a UCLA turnaround, quarterbacking the Bruins, which had finished 2-7-1 at eighth-place in the Pac-8 in 1971, to a combined 17-5 record in 1972 and 1973. In his first game ever as a Bruin, which opened the 1972 season, Harmon led an underdog UCLA to a dramatic 20-17 win against two-time defending national champion Nebraska, snapping the Huskers' 32-game-unbeaten streak. A Wishbone-T quarterback who could run, pass, fake and mix plays, Harmon rushed for more yards and touchdowns than he did passing, amassing 1,504 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns versus passing for 845 yards and 9 touchdowns during his tenure in Westwood. The offensive coordinator Homer Smith's wishbone offense forced Harmon to make multiple decisions in very short time periods, distributing the ball to running backs Kermit Johnson and James McAlister. The combination created the top running game in the nation in 1973, and UCLA set school records for total yards gained (4,403), average yards per game (400) and rushing touchdowns (56). A Communications major who aspired to become a doctor, Harmon excelled in the UCLA classrooms, carrying a 3.45 GPA and graduating cum laude. His accomplishments earned him Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors as well as an NFF National Scholar-Athlete Award, which led to his trip to New York City where he was honored at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner the same night that John Wayne accepted the NFF Gold Medal. "In today's society, the scholar-athlete is indeed a rare breed," Harmon said in responding for the NFF Scholar-Athlete Class in 1973. "Not only does he excel on the field, but he competes in the classroom as well…. As we gather here tonight to pay our respects to the men who made the great American game of football what it is today, we hope that one day in the future some of us from the Class of '74 might be fortunate enough to carry on the great tradition that has been passed down by the distinguished men in this room. If we do, it is because our universities gave us the chance and the game of football has given us the principles." After UCLA, Harmon declined professional football offers to instead pursue acting. He worked in advertising, as a shoe company rep and as a carpenter between acting gigs and appearing in Coors beer commercials. His hard work eventually paid off with a big break on NBC's St. Elsewhere and the leading role of Dr. Robert Caldwell. His success continued on NBC's police drama Reasonable Doubts starring as detective Dickey Cobb and CBS's Chicago Hope where he appeared as Dr. Jack McNeil. He also had memorable arcs on the hit shows Moonlighting and The West Wing before landing the lead role of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, a special agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, on CBS' global favorite NCIS series, which has become part of television history, approaching its 400th episode and recently inking a deal for its 17th season. The most-watched-scripted show on American television today and consistently ranked among the five highest-rated TV shows each year, NCIS is a TV juggernaut, attracting more than 15 million viewers each week throughout most of its run. In 2011, Harmon became an executive producer on NCIS, and in 2014 an idea he co-developed became the spinoff NCIS: New Orleans which premiered on CBS with Harmon as an executive producer alongside Gary Glasberg. His big-screen credits include Freaky Friday, Wyatt Earp, The Presidio, Summer School and Stealing Home. He has worked with Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jodie Foster, Allison Janney, Karl Malden, Patricia Arquette and Denzel Washington among countless other Hollywood notables. Harmon has received numerous accolades and award nominations during his career, including being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Oct. 1, 2012, but he has always remained humble with an appreciation for the efforts of others. Pokémon Yellow: Pikachu ONLY Challenge!
Growing up, Pokémon was just getting hot while I was in 5th grade. I watched the Saturday morning cartoon, played the CCG with my bro, and faced off on Game Boy against friends. Often mocked as being a "kiddie" franchise, I could have cared less and could still care less. Fun game, solid entry level RPG all things considered. Being able to run a Game Boy Advanced emulator on my phone has afforded me the time to squeeze in a revisit of Pokémon: Yellow Edition in my free time (Which currently comes at a premium with a 5 month old around! :D) What's not to love? You get Pikachu right off the bat, he follows you around the game, you can check in on his mood, and get to play through the story more like the way the cartoon played out.
To make this more challenging on myself since at this point the straight up gameplay is all I care to do (the side quest of collecting 150 digital animals has minimal appeal to me at this stage of my gaming "career"), I am going through the game only using my initial Pokémon to do any/all fighting. If he is knocked out in a fight, I reset, reload, and try again. I decided that Pikachu, being my champion, needed an appropriate nickname. I settled on "Mouse Lord". I will of course be picking up a handful of other Pokémon along the way so I have a means to use the HMs Cut, Fly, Surf, and Strength. These are essential for progressing through the game and can't be learned by Mouse Lord.
Pallet Town & Viridian City
The start of the game is pretty ho-hum. I named my nemesis "Fart". He heckles you throughout the game, so he deserves the name of a lowly troll. Fart seemed appropriate. The first two fights against Fart weren't too rough. A potion was needed on the first one for some HP insurance, but by the time I faced him again I could hold my own just fine.
Pewter City
The fight in the Pewter City Gym against Brock is one of the two actually challenging gym battles in this entire self challenge. Having all Rock/Ground types, I had to tail whip 2 to 3 times before Quick Attack could do any significant damage. Coupled with a healthy stock pile of potions, I was able to clean house and win. Only took one attempt.
Once I found the TM for the move "Body Slam", I swapped that with "Quick Attack". Body Slam has a high accuracy and relatively high damage rating. The PP of 15 was not preferred but not a deal breaker. This gave me the ability to do some damage to enemies that Electric type attacks don't work on. The most time laborious part of only using one Pokémon that only has one normal type attack is running back to Poké Centers all the time to recharge PP. More time consuming than actually "challenging".
Mt. Moon
Strolled into the first cave of the game at level 22, which was more than sufficient against the early game Pokémon. Every RPG has caves, and every cave in every RPG generally sucks. Caves usually take you to where you need to go or give you a nice reward for grinding through. This cave provides passage to Cerulean City and the next Gym. Encounters with Geodude and Onix were pretty common, but I could run away from wild fights. Trainer fights I wasn't willing to gloss over. Lots of Ground and Rock Type battles meant lots of returning topside on foot to the Poké Center to recharge PP. Body Slam came in handy hear in combo again with Tail Whip to lower opponent's defenses, but only having 15 PP in Body Slam didn't get me through nearly enough battles. I found an Ether hidden under a rock which allowed me to restore some PP to Body Slam, but I ultimately JUST cleared the cave finishing the final mandatory battle with Team Rocket depleting the last of the PP in both Thundershock and Body Slam. Kind of a big deal because exhausting those skills mid battle would have meant starting over from my last save. I attribute all of the one hit KOs in my final battle to the Helix Fossil. It led me to victory.
Cerulean City
Misty had nothing to offer up against Mouse Lord's lightning fury! The trainer battle just before Misty, Mouse Lord learned Thunderbolt which assured one hit KOs on both of Misty's Pokémon. Next!
Vermilion City
A quick run down to the S.S. Anne to rub the Sea Captain's back and be given HM 01, "Cut"... Which I could not graciously accept because my inventory was full. Thanks to newer versions of Pokémon, I had completely forgotten how limited my inventory was in this early edition of the game. I went on a TM tossing tear in the Captain's cabin. Once given HM 01, I taught it to an aptly named Bulbasaur named "Cutman" I was gifted by an NPC. The Vermilion City gym although obnoxious with the trip switch puzzle, wasn't challenging at all. Another case of Tail Whips combined with Body Slams on trainers and a one hit on LT. Surge. Upon leaving the gym I was gifted a Squirtle by a sad sack of an NPC which gave me an effort free Pokémon to teach Surf to later on.
Rock Tunnel
I didn't waste time getting the HM "Flash", let alone teaching it to Mouse Lord. The side quest needed to earn Flash required catching some quantity of Pokémon. Wasn't worth it. I just went in and felt around in the dark for awhile till I found my way out. I had a healthy supply of escape ropes just in case. I accidentally rubbed up against a few trainers and ran from all wild encounters.
Celadon Gym
Pulped the mass of plant Pokémon with Body Slam in this Gym. Chump Gym. Mouse Lord leveled in the high 40s at this point. I have been making sure I hit the vast majority of the trainer battles along the way to maximize XP gained. So far, the XP gained has been overkill for using just the one Pokémon. Pikachu is a glass cannon to begin with, but my opponents seldom get a chance to land a blow. At this point, I'm starting to feel like the "Gotta catch 'em all!" mind set has no place in this game.
Team Rocket Hideout & Pokemon Tower
The little arrows that make you slowly spin across the floor in Team Rocket's Hideout, easily the most obnoxious "challenge" so far in this run.. Boss battles were no problem here, still clipping along with minimal resistance. Giovanni, easy peasy. At this point Mouse Lord was leveling in the low 50s.
The Pokémon Tower was not too bad, but getting nailed with confusion every few trainer battles wore my patience down quickly. Not being able to swap to a "sane" fighter made the tower take far longer than it should have. I didn't want to run from the chance to pick up some more XP though, so I put my head down and powered through. Did this a bit out of order.. had to return after completing the fight in the Silph Co. tower with the Silph Scope to actually "complete" the tower. Whoops.
Silph Co. & Saffron City Gym
Teleported to every room on every floor of the Silph Co. Tower to make sure I cleared all trainer battles. I had to make a few trips to the Poké Center to recharge PP and HP. Team Rocket and Giovanni were once again a cake walk. Nothing of any interest to report really. At this point, the Pikachu only challenge is turning into kind of a grind. Starting to feel a little bit like I'm playing Diablo minus the hope for fun and exciting drops.
Fighting Dojo in Saffron also a non event. Completed all fights in the Dojo for XP and for a Pokemon I could eventually teach strength to. Picked the Hitmonlee and named him "Toejam" for funsies.
Saffron Gym wasn't too rough, but wasn't completely forgiving. Confusion got in my way again here, wasn't able to always one hit in all of the bouts. Needed to make one trip out to heal, which took over 5 minutes to remember the teleporter pattern (Also, running the emulator at accelerated speed caused me to fumble more than anything else. Being stubborn I refused to slow the emulator down and just kept going onto the wrong teleporter pad.). This, honestly, kicked my butt more than the floor arrows that make you slowly spin across the floor..
Fuchsia City
Finally cashed in my bike voucher out of necessity. The bike path was the one place I didn't fight many of the trainers. I've been playing with accelerated emulation so I could get through the game faster than normal. A replay of an RPG really requires accelerated emulation for the grinds. I flew down the path so fast, redirecting wasn't really an option. I went with the flow rather than fighting the current.
Koga wasn't a problem at all. At this point I was around level 60. Everything is still turning up Mouse Lord. Safari Zone I ran from everything and went straight for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Seafoam Islands
I tried to catch the Articuno that was hiding in the cave here so I could have a luxury pokemon to fly on. At level 65, I couldn't delicately damage it enough to capture it. I knocked it out, took the 1500 some points in XP, and went on my way. The only thing legendary about this Pokémon was the whooping it received from Mouse Lord.
I wound up using a master ball on a spearow eventually just so I had something to teach fly to. Didn't really need fly at this point because without doing side challenges and just playing the game straight up, it can be rather linear. I did however want a means to fly back to the prime shops Celadon to stock up on choice combat items.
Cinnabar Island
At this point, Mouse Lord was leveling in at just almost 70. Waltzed through the Pokemon Mansion for the Secret Key, then on to the Gym. Blaine wasn't too bad, he did manage to get some hits in but I didn't need to reach for a potion at all. Going in I did skip the trainer fights and answer the quiz questions for funsies. I got them all right of course. I am for reals, a Pokémon Master.
Viridian City & Power Plant
I went straight to the gym thinking it would continue to be a cake walk, I couldn't have been more wrong! Finally, a true challenge! Giovanni actually brought his "A" game to a brawl for the first time this entire game. Giovanni's Nidoqueen, Nidoking, and Rhydon DESTROYED me. Being ground types, I had to rely on Body Slam. Every attack from these three was Earthquake, which forced me to heal. I had to leave, level up a bit, and try again. Still, the best I could do was make it to the Rhydon.
Rhydon would use earth quake and take me down to 20 HP, I would use a Hyper Potion, and repeat. I figured, he will run out of PP, I'll wait out the storm and go on the offensive. Fun Fact: Somehow he doesn't run out of PP for Earthquake EVER.
I flew over to the power plant to clear it out and level some more. I thought I could capture the Zappdos to have as a super cool ride, but no dice. I took the XP and carried on again.. I flew on my Spearrow (weak @$$ ride) to celadon city to stock up on some defense X. When I went back to Viridian, I used my stat pumping items while fighting the Dugtrio in round one then healed up and carried on. This plus the extra levels (now level 78) allowed me to hold my own and win like a boss.
Victory Road & The Final Four!
Another bland encounter with my rival Fart begins the final chapter of this Pikachu only challenge. This guy is a total turd. I'm always happy to slap him around. The path down victory road was not particularly challenging. I ran from the wild encounters to preserve PP, and wound up using an escape rope once to recover PP at a Poké Center. I didn't want to waste the Max Ethers I had on hand just in case I needed them on the Final Four.
In the caves of victory road I encountered a Moltres, the last of the three legendary birds. At this point, I was mostly over trying to catch one for the sake of having a Cadillac of all flying Pokémon to ride on the back of. Instead, I ripped him to pieces with Mouse Lords unwavering rage.
The trickiest part of the Final Four was the necessity of having two Max Ethers on hand. I needed to rebuff both Body Slam and Thunderbolt after the first three battles. Since you fight 5 battles back to back with a total of 26 Pokémon of mixed types back to back, running out of PP using only a single Pokémon is the hardest part. There is nothing amazing to comment on from the fights because they were relatively lackluster. I beat the final portion of the game over a five minutes span while standing in my kitchen talking to my wife. As I was watching the credits scroll, she wandered over and looks at my phone, then looks at me "You were playing Pokémon while we were talking?". I proudly say "Yes." The last battles were so uneventful, that I was able to hold a discussion while owning. The sign of a true pro.
The final battle with Fart was an absolute non event. The real take away from all of this is that the game is completely doable with only a single Pokémon used to fight all battles. The trainer battles alone give you the XP you need to level up that one Pokémon into a power house, a force to be reckoned with. The core game doesn't necessitate the capturing of all possible Pokémon, it's largely just franchise immersion.
That being said, I still had a blast playing through the game! Brought me back to the days when the franchise was first breaking out and was all the rage. Epilogue: Mewtwo
Having crushed all opposition, I went up against the only truly worthy opponent in the game: Mewtwo. Quite a bit of back and forth in this fight! Every time Mewtwo was able to get off a powerful psychic attack, I was left reaching for Hyper Potions. We had around 7 rounds of combat and I ultimately prevailed, but definitely had a few close calls. With no opponents left to challenge me, this run is as complete as it can be.

This might sound a little strange but how much does it usually cost to go to Gallifrey One? I can't find the prices on the website and thought you might know.
Not at all! I can only answer from my personal experience as I’m from the UK who has travelled to Gallifrey One twice now so it may vary for you depending on your budget and where you’re from. My friend who I travelled with this year has also done a Gallifrey one guide which I will post below;
Gallifrey One tickets for next year are on sale on April 13th.
The first step is, of course, get a ticket. Even if you don’t manage it at the point of initial sale for any reason (remember the contends to sell out in 24 to 48 hours), all is not lost; the con operates a ticket transfer policy which gets going late in the year, and ends typically about a week before the con. Sellers post in the Facebook group for the event, and buyers contact them with an expression of interest. Tickets cost about £80 dependent on the exchange rate. Both times I have been, I have operated a “buy ticket now, worry about getting there later” policy. You do not need to immediately get a flight booked as soon as you get a ticket.Full-price flights can cost as much as £600-700 economy, but there are many opportunities to as much as halve this to £350-400 in airline sales, or if you have a credit card that gives you Avios (what used to be known as Air Miles), which can be used towards your flight. Air New Zealand and Aer Lingus are often the cheapest options, and people who have flown with them report good things. If you are travelling from elsewhere in the UK than London, and are an inexperienced flyer, British Airways offers a hassle-free experience of your domestic and international flight leaving from the same Heathrow terminal (Terminal 5) Remember to apply for your ESTA from the US Department of Homeland Security in good time. This is part of the Visa Waiver scheme for non-US citizens and everyone must have one that comes from a country participating in the scheme. It costs a nominal fee of about £30, and most of the airlines prompt you to do it as part of the booking process. Be aware it takes about 20 minutes to complete. They do tend to ask you some personal questions (your social media usernames). It is better to tell them everything for a hassle-free process, but this is a matter of personal choice.Hotels. The Marriott is expensive outside of the con-block rate. When the block goes online it sells out in literally seconds. Normal price for the Marriott is 230 USD a night. I have not managed to secure a room at the Marriott either time; have a backup plan, there are many excellent options a short walk away. The Crowne Plaza is only one block from the Marriott and is reasonably priced at 900 USD for 5 nights for 2 people – around £368 each. The Hilton is highly rated by con-goers next door, the Renaissance Marriott is next to the Crowne Plaza and is more basic. Cheaper options are to be had further away. Almost all hotels offer free airport transfer buses directly outside the International Terminal. Note it is not really practical to stay downtown and travel in, the subway is on the other side of the airport. There is an extension being built on the other side of the Marriott though whether it will be ready or convenient for next year I am unsure.Eating does not come cheap and you must remember that tax is not usually included in prices shown on menus, nor is a gratuity for which a minimum of 15% is the norm. A pizza in one of the hotels will cost between 17 and 20 USD before tax. If you are on a budget and have the arms and legs for it, visit Target or CVS and stock up on essentials. Eating in hotels is most expensive (though if you want to minimise your time away from the con is often a good idea), but fast food options exist close to the Marriott, with Subway, Carl’s Jnr and Denny’s all close by. Denny’s is due to be demolished soon (everyone was surprised it was still standing this year). In-n-Out Burger has several branches less than a mile away. For breakfast at Carl’s or Denny’s, reckon on about half of hotel prices (15 USD vs 30 USD)Travel around the city is remarkably cheap. A 10 USD subway travelcard will take you a long way. Hollywood with the Chinese Theatre and Walk of Fame are almost right outside Hollywood Highlands subway. Santa Monica is well worth a visit if the weather is favourable, with its iconic pier and glorious miles of clean beach. Other con matters. Autographs and photos are slightly cheaper here than the UK, often you will pay in USD what you would normally expect to pay in pounds, and even then, the very biggest guests will charge typically no more than around 40 – 45 USD. Evening receptions, where you get to have drinks with the stars rotating around tables for a couple of hours, are 95 USD. Diamond passes are around 235 USD, but are excellent value – multiple photos and autographs, often green screen, a free gift or print, and an hour-long meet and greet. Lines are not as long as in the UK and very well organised, so those wanting an auto or photo will certainly be seen. If you buy more than one Diamond Pass, you should certainly consider a Tardis Tag which was 795 USD this year, but gets you all of the big guests, plus any others that are Showmasters, rather than con-sponsored guests. Note that there are also Kaffeeklatsch (coffee morning) sessions, which last an hour, and offer a chance of talking to one of the less popular stars for an hour as part of a group of a dozen. These are free, and were done on a ballot process this year. As Simon has pointed out, your con ticket gets you so much more than a normal con. There 5 panel rooms including Program A in the main hall, and they operate all day, every day – ever wanted to learn circular Gallifreyan in a classroom? Now’s your chance. Most rooms keep going until 7p.m. and even then there are evening events taking place with quizzes, comedy sketch shows, karaoke and more until midnight in some circumstances. And of course, there is LobbyCon. The Marriott Lobby is the main socialising and hanging out area, where friends gather throughout the day, evening and into the small hours. The guests often hang out in the Lobby with each other (and if you know them from previous events, often, you), and in the evenings, the atmosphere is wonderfully friendly. Finally, ribbons. Ribbons are humorous or sometimes just direct quotes from the show, printed on fabric, with a small adhesive strip on the top. They stick to each other so you wind up with a long roll of them as you exchange them for those other people have brought with them. They are an excellent way to socialise, make new friends, and enjoy the con – there are ribbon exchange meets throughout the con, but often people also exchange ribbons in LobbyCon too. Its huge fun and I would recommend it as part of the con experience. As a guide, I paid around 100 USD for 250 ribbons this year and traded all of them by Sunday lunchtime. Ribbons Galore and PC Nametag are two of the most popular companies. Note that they charge a design setup fee, and then a unit price per ribbon. The unit price goes down as the quantity goes up, so play with the quantities a little to see how many you can get for what money – once you get up above 250 ribbons or so, you wind up getting more of the same design for free effectively. The big “but” here is delivery, which is horrendously expensive to have them shipped to the UK. If you have a kind friend in the US who will accept delivery and bring them to the con, then great, but the other alternative, is to have them shipped to your hotel, for which the hotel will charge you a nominal fee (5 – 20 USD), and pick them up from the concierge on check-in.Ticket: 80 GBPFlights: 350-400 GBPHotels: 350-400 GBPFood and subsistence: 45 USD per day (budget) 80 per day (expensive)Autos and Photos: vary on the person, say 150 USD, plus diamond passes and evening receptions for the more extravagant.Travel: 40-50 USDRibbons: 100 – 150 USDSo yes, Gally can be done for around about a thousand pounds, but a budget of 1500 GBP will make it a much more comfortable experience where you have to worry less about running out of cash. But be warned. Once you have done it, you may never want to miss it again, and you may never look at cons the same way again!

Why You Need to Move Every Day to Get the Benefits of Exercise
Did I just describe you? If so, I applaud you for making time on your days off for physical activity. Unfortunately, such sporadic bursts aren’t enough to counteract the harmful effects prolonged sitting has on the mind and body. To get the benefits of exercise, you need to move much more often—every single day—by sitting much less. In other words, you have to swap your sedentary lifestyle for an active one.
Don’t panic: That doesn’t mean you have to find an extra hour in your busy day to get to the gym or a fitness class. By doing simple things like taking standing and walking breaks during work, plus occasionally engaging in brief but higher-intensity exercise, you’ll be moving like our active hunter–gatherer ancestors did and be well on your way to enjoying better health.
Think about your typical work day. Do you sit at a desk for eight hours, commute home in a car, and sit in front of the TV until bed? If so, you’re not getting the full benefits of exercise—even if your weekends are full of workouts. Find out why. #healthylifestyle #chriskresser
Six Reasons Why Sitting Is So Bad for Your Health
A sedentary lifestyle, comprising prolonged sitting and minimal physical activity, has a negative effect on nearly every aspect of human health. As a result, it increases your risk of developing serious chronic diseases and even early death. Although we’re not 100 percent sure why sitting raises these risks, thanks to the emergent field of sedentary physiology, we have some pretty good ideas. (1) For example, we know that sitting is associated with decreased calorie expenditure and poorer metabolic functioning, including reduced insulin sensitivity. (2) As I’ve discussed before, sitting too much can lead to weight gain over time—even if you’re exercising when you step away from your desk.
Avoiding the additional pounds isn’t the only reason to start moving. Here are six more evidence-backed reasons why you need to stop spending so much of your day sitting.
Reason #1: It’s Hazardous to Your Heart
Studies have linked being sedentary with cardiovascular disease (CVD), including coronary heart disease, stroke, heart attack, and CVD-related death. (3, 4) It appears that sitting decreases activity of the enzyme lipoprotein lipase (LPL), which leads to higher levels of triglycerides (a type of fat that moves through your bloodstream and is sometimes an indicator for CVD) and lower levels of HDL (“good” cholesterol). (5) Sitting too much has also been found to increase blood pressure and decrease the diameter of arteries, making heart disease more likely.
Reason #2: It Impairs Insulin Sensitivity, Putting You in the Diabetes Danger Zone
Sitting has been linked to insulin resistance, a risk factor for diabetes. In one investigation, on the day participants sat for five consecutive hours after consuming a high-calorie drink, their plasma insulin and glucose levels were more than 20 percent higher than on days when they interrupted sitting with short breaks. Other research suggests that sitting for just two hours after a meal could increase your blood sugar levels. Over time, that sets the stage for insulin resistance and diabetes. (6, 7)
Reason #3: You Set the Stage for Osteoporosis in Your Lifetime
Researchers now associate sitting with lower bone mineral density and osteoporosis in both men and women. (8, 9) The lower your bone mineral density—think calcium and phosphorus—the weaker your bones. Some of the latest studies have looked at adolescents and the amount of time they spend at a computer, watching television, or playing video games, finding a negative association between sitting and bone mineral content and density, particularly in teenage boys. (10, 11, 12)
Reason #4: You Boost Your Chance of Cancer ...
… by up to 66 percent, according to one study. (13) Researchers found sedentary behavior to be associated with a:
24 percent higher risk of developing colon cancer
32 percent greater chance of endometrial cancer
21 percent increased risk of lung cancer
Watching TV, in particular, was associated with a 54 percent higher likelihood of colon cancer and 66 percent greater chance of endometrial cancer. These links remained strong even in people who worked out regularly. A large study also linked sitting to a higher risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and multiple myeloma. (14)
Reason #5: You Lose Your Mind—Literally
One recent study from UCLA reported that participants who sat for long stretches of time had thinning in regions of the brain involved in memory formation. This decreased thickness can serve as a precursor to cognitive decline and dementia. (15)
Reason #6: Ultimately, It Can Kill You
Multiple studies from around the globe have found an association between increased sedentary time and the risk of early death. In the summer of 2018, results of a survey of more than 125,000 adults were released that found that those who sat for six or more hours a day were 19 percent more likely to die over the next two decades than those who spent less time sitting once their workday was over. And the higher risk of death remained even in people who exercised. (16)
Think Exercise Is the Only Answer? Think Again
Notice something about many of the studies shared above? Several found the same negative health outcomes in people who were completely sedentary and “weekend warriors,” those who worked out but still spent the majority of each day seated. And there are many other studies that confirm those conclusions.
It’s clear: Exercise alone—including bursts of moderate to vigorous activity—can’t undo the damage caused by sitting.
Some research even suggests that people who exercise intensely, like marathon runners, are more likely to be sedentary when they’re not exercising, falsely assuming their training offers them the full benefits of exercise and protects them from the harmful effects of sitting. (17) What’s more, in some cases marathons, triathlons, and long-distance bicycle rides can result in overtraining, and studies have linked these activities with heart, muscle, and joint damage. (18, 19)
In industrialized societies, this “active couch potato” phenomenon has unfortunately become the norm rather than the exception. If you work in an office, commute by car, and watch a few hours of TV each night, it’s not hard to see how you could spend the vast majority of your waking life (up to 15 hours a day) sitting on your butt. This is far outside of the evolutionary norm for humans, and it has serious consequences for our health.
How to Get the Benefits of Exercise: Stop Being Sedentary and Move Like Your Ancestors
What is the evolutionary norm? Our hunter–gatherer ancestors didn’t work out; they just lived. They naturally spent a lot of time outdoors in the sun—walking, hunting, and gathering. They had to exert themselves, and often quite strenuously, to survive. Our ancestors sprinted, jogged, climbed, carried, and jumped intermittently throughout the day, on top of walking and running. They also alternated strenuous and demanding days with days of rest, an instinctual response that protected them from injury and fatigue.
You can mimic their approach today by becoming what I call an “organic mover,” a person who engages in lots of low-intensity physical activity along with distinct periods of higher-intensity exercise. SWAP your way to ancestral health: stand, walk, and push.
Stand
One of the easiest ways to undo the harmful effects of sitting is simply to stand up! Standing engages muscles that boost LPL activity and boosts your metabolism. (20) In general, I recommend standing or walking for at least 50 percent of your day.
Try this:
Use a standing desk. There are several types of standing desks on the market, ranging from stationary to adjustable models, or you can make one yourself. (A few low-tech ideas: Try putting your laptop on a sturdy box or crate, an old speaker stand, or even some stacked books.) Many employers permit them and even provide them for their employees.
Take standing breaks. If you’re unable to work at a standing desk, be sure to stand up for at least two minutes every 30 to 45 minutes, and either stretch or take a quick walk (do this when you’re sitting at home, too). Even short breaks like this can make a huge difference. Set a timer on your phone or look for an app that will remind you to move on a regular basis. Also try standing for part or all of your meetings.
Walk
Again, let’s keep it simple: Walk more and sit less. (Other light exercise such as gardening and household cleaning is also beneficial.) Research has shown that even low to moderate physical activity like walking lowers post-meal blood sugar, insulin, and triglyceride levels. (21)
Try this:
Walk while you work with a treadmill desk. I use a treadmill desk myself and average between 15,000 and 18,000 steps a day. As with standing desks, there are several options for configuration. You can buy a treadmill for an existing standing desk or buy a desk that fits above your existing treadmill.
Hold walking meetings. Who says meetings have to sit around a boardroom table?
Walk or bicycle to work. If you live too far away to walk or ride exclusively, consider driving part of the way and commuting on foot or bike for the remainder.
Use the stairs whenever possible, and rack up steps.
Find a hobby that moves you. Ballroom dancing, bowling, gardening, and cooking are fun choices that get you walking around. Pick something that’s fun and that fits your lifestyle—that’s the key to sticking with it.
Push
In addition to standing and walking more, you need to occasionally push yourself as our ancestors did with bouts of more intense exercise; just don’t overdo it. I recommend following the guidelines established by my friend and colleague Dan Pardi.
Try this:
Aim for 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week (jogging, yoga, or dancing), which requires 50 to 70 percent of your maximum effort to perform; OR
Get 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity a week (running, Zumba, or sports), which takes 70 to 90 percent of your maximum effort; OR
Complete 30 sets (roughly 30 minutes) of highest-intensity exercise per week (sprinting, jumping rope, or resistance training), which needs greater than 90 percent of your maximum effort; OR
Do some combination of the above.
A note about your maximum effort: I use percentages here because your “maximum effort” will differ from someone else’s based on a number of factors. Someone who’s living a sedentary lifestyle, for example, might consider a light jog to be a vigorous-intensity workout, while a runner might call it moderate. The key is to pay attention to your body and push yourself.
The third bullet refers to a type of exercise often called high-intensity interval training (HIIT), which involves performing movements at very high intensity for very short periods of time, usually between 30 seconds and two minutes. If you’ve been taught that “chronic cardio” (as Mark Sisson calls it) is the way to go, this approach may seem too good to be true, yet studies have found HIIT superior on nearly every level. It’s a great option to help you move like your ancestors.
I hope you now see that truly active living is key to optimal well-being, and that as long as you sit for the bulk of your day, you run the health risks of a sedentary life. If you want to get the full benefits of exercise, it’s time to SWAP things up.

Everyone is talking about the various glitches in bts videos (btw I think they were confirmed to be the fault of youtube itself. But I still find them extremely weird). Which I agree, are weird but aren‘t as weird as the codes that probably most of you have already seen. 6 members have an encoded instagram account. It seems that only taehyung doesn‘t have one. Every account has an encoded bio. The code is called binary (it‘s a basic coding language). When you try to translate the binary codes that’s what you get.
1) chxm.chxm_ (Jimin) START GAME
2) n0chuu_ (Jeongguk) Level 1
3) mang_hobb (Hoseok) Level 2
4) sh00ky_ (Yoongi) Level 3
5) k0ya_rm (Namjoon) Level 4
6) rj_gn (Seokjin) Level 5
They all follow each other. However, only Yoongi follows additional 3 accounts and seems that one of them is Taehyung (tata_vui); his account displays a photo with words „GAME OVER“. Every account has posted photos with unreadable codes. A few that are decodable and some that I have no idea what they mean. For example, one photo on Taehyung‘s account has a binary code „ 01000001 01000010 01010010 01000001 01011000 01000001 01010011“ which translated means „ABRAXAS“
Abraxas is a word of mystic meaning. There are many explanations of what it can mean but as I was reading through I came across something that send shivers down my spine „The seven letters spelling its name may represent each of the seven classic planets.“ Maybe it has some kind of connection with time traveling that seems to be the main theory of the MV‘s. Whatever Abraxas is connected with, it‘s placed here for a reason.
But let‘s start from the beginning:
1) Jimin – START GAME.
I managed to decode these things: Kookie is 9 The universe has moved for us 4 September 16
Besides these codes, there are also a few that seems to be random number sequences or dates (I tried to look for the dates on bts youtube channel but I couldn‘t find any that corresponded) However, probably the most interesting hint is the message:
무서워, 나는이 순간 위험에 처해있다. 얘들 아, 나는 Fejl에 가입하는 것이 좋지 않을 것이라고 말했다... 우리는 지금 무엇을 할 것인가? @n0chuu_ @mang_hobb @k0ya_rm @rj_gn @sh00ky_ (trans: I am afraid, I am in danger at this moment. Guys, I said it would be bad to join Fejl ... what will we do now? @ n0chuu_ @mang_hobb @ k0ya_rm @rj_gn @ sh00ky_)
The username above ( 6c_6f_73_74_20_75_73_65_72) lets me speculate that perhaps they’re playing a game with a person behind it and Jimin feels threatened.
2) Jungkook – Level 1
Whistles in my ears
There are also morse codes which can be translated to: eva+ wings+
The most interesting piece is a hashtag that connects jungkook‘s and jimin‘s accounts: #침침 #노추
3) Jhope – Level 2
Find the self that was innocent I know I've drunk from the poisoned chalice 지금 날 위로하네 (trans: I am comforting you now)
4) Suga – Level 3
I looked up and wished you NOT/ TODAY 04:06
It‘s especially interesting because when you go to the time mark in Not Today MV, it‘s an image of jungkook looking at himself.
5) RM – Level 4
180917 02:56 (the only date and time mark I managed to find. It‘s LOVE YOURSELF Highlight Reel '起承轉結' on 02:56)
Omelas 03:47 (Which is of course connected with Spring Day MV)
Jungkook once again sees himself.

The additional 2 accounts that suga follows seems to also have photos with various codes.
1) @6c_6f_73_74_20_75_73_65_72 (@thuybinnie has figured that 6c_6f_73_74_20_75_73_65_72 in hex translates to “lost user”)
Basically has undecodable codes that don‘t make any sense for me.
2) @repl4y__
Seems to have a bunch of photos some with normal words and some with morses codes. N/ OF/ NAM+ (this seems to code Namjoon) Y/ OF/ YOON+ (this looks like Yoongi) EYES+ SHADOW+
The other photos has normal words, however, with quite an interesting hint (@CateHarmonic did figured it out)
At least for now, that‘s everything. It‘s hard to say what they‘re thinking to do on this comeback but it‘s clear that bagstan want us to play a game. As you probably already realized, this is not a theory post. I’m not smart enough for that. This is just a bunch of information that I managed to gather while I was going through the instagram accounts.
***UPDATE*** I’m super thankful for my friend who has much more knowledge of codes and coding languages. He found a message that was hidden between numbers on one of the photos on 6c_6f_73_74_20_75_73_65_72 account. It says: THEY___HAVE___US___LOCKED___UP.
He also recognized the other code, that is used on the other 3 photos. It‘s base 64 code. And sure it is... When I put it in the decoder that‘s what I got.
”Can you read me, right? Are you really still here? You must continue Do not stop, you are so, so close ... or maybe not? Suppose that if you are here is for something, I suppose you will not remain among us for no reason or to put yourself in what does not concern you. Although I can make the decision to leave things as they are, a small part of me trusts you. In fact, I depend on you. As I was going through the accounts once again, I tried to find what kind of coding system they used. And it looks like I found it. There are three kinds of codes that I found. 1) It‘s a simple texting code (I don‘t even know if you could call it that way). If you had a phone with a keyboard, you definitely had used that code every time you texted.
In Jhope‘s: First love (333-444-777-7777-8-555-666-888-33)
2) A1Z26 code (which basically looks like this: 3-15-14-20-9-14-21-5)
On Suga‘s account I found: this / realm/ was / familiar / to / me / in / almost / every / way the/ other/ realm/ however/ was/ completely/ different
On Jungkook‘s account: it‘s up
On Jhope‘s: It‘s so sweet but so bad
And 1 on Jimin‘s: Continue
3) It‘s an octal code (which looks like this: 122 157 165 156 144 40 141 156 144 40 162 157 165 156 144 54 40 167 145 40 141 162 145 40 162 151 147 150 164 40 167 150 145 162 145 40 167 145 40 163 164 141 162 164 145 144 56) On Jungkook‘s: Round and round, we are right where we started. There is still some that I can’t figure out. But trust me, I’m going to try and figure them out. I’m too invested in this at this point... I know, some of you are probably thinking I’m wasting my time searching and decoding all these codes. And you’re probably right... I’m starting to doubt that this is bighit’s job, maybe someone is simply having fun. But honestly, I’m invested!
