Haruna [Unhatched Seiyuu] Part 2
Previously: Part 1
Birds chirp. Haruna looks around.
Haruna: You’re going to take my picture here at the park, Manager-san?
Manager: Yeah. This is where we’ll do your photoshoot practice.
Haruna: It’s Sunday today, so there’s a lot of people…it’s hard not to feel self-conscious…
Manager: That’s why it’s good practice. You need to be able to relax in a situation like this. Okay, I’ll get started. Strike whatever pose comes to you.
Haruna: Something like…this?
Click
Manager: Don’t hold back. Show off how cute you are.
Haruna: A cute pose…like this?
Click
Manager: Still as stiff as before…
Haruna: I don’t know what to do! What does a pose that “shows off my cuteness” even look like?
Haruna: Do I have to do rabbit ears or something? I’d die of embarrassment!
Manager: Whatever feels right to you, Haruna. We’re looking for a pose that shows off how cute you are.
Haruna: But I’m not cute…
Manager: That’s not true.
Haruna: Yes it is. I’m not cute.
Manager: Okay, then let’s try this…why don’t you act out being cute? Like it’s a role.
Haruna: Act it out…?
Manager: That’s right. The role is…a really, really cute idol. And right now, you’re at a photo op event for your fans.
Haruna: I see…I’ll give it a try!
Click.
Manager: Ooh! That’s a lot better!
Click. Click.
Manager: Yes! Keep it up!
Click.
Manager: Hm? All of a sudden, there’s a crowd of people taking their own pictures of her…you’d think it was a real photo op event…
Haruna: Manager-san…who are all these people?
Manager: Stay in character, Haruna! You’re an idol right now, remember? Don’t worry about them, keep going!
Haruna: Right! I guess these people are my fans! I can’t go disappointing them or I’m not a very good idol!
Haruna strikes several more poses.
Manager: (Just look at that smile on her face…seems she’s got the hang of it now.)
Click.
---
Masaki: We’ve received the photos from your make-up session.
Manager: I think these are much better.
Masaki: I agree completely. These will definitely do.
Haruna: Thank you so much! You too, Manager-san! Thank you so so much!
Fin.

Red flags in Takarazuka
I’m late getting to this, but @zukanerd asked me to explain the science behind my foreshadowing abilities regarding things like taidan, transfers, etc. This is by no means REAL or OFFICIAL, just a collection of signals that have tended to fit into some kind of pattern over the years. Feel free to add your own if I forget something!
TAIDAN SIGNS
For top otokoyaku/top combis who are definitely going to leave together, sometimes they hit you over the head with a big flashing neon TAIDAN!! billboard by putting references to the star’s name in the title of the production. The most recent example is Dramatic S; it came right at Chigi’s 3 year mark and they tend not to name shows in that way unless it’s a sendoff. Sometimes it’s less obvious or they use/reference one of the star’s kanji somewhere—for example, Misty Station (the “Kiri” in Kiriya Hiromu means mist). References to eternity/things ending or starting over are also sometimes a tip off (”Twilight” in the title of Soragumi’s next show, Phoenix Takarazuka, Takarazuka ∞ Mugen, Forever Love, etc). That one is not as reliable but can spell taidan around the 3 year mark. Solo shows can also be an indicator. A Motion in Umeda main hall (which is huge), Chie’s Budokan concert. Masaki faked us out by taking two.
Bonus top otokoyaku NON-TAIDAN sign: only 23% of top otokoyaku have ever retired on a 2-act performance. So while it’s not impossible for a top star to retire on a 2-act, the odds are definitely against it. There was speculation that Mirio might announce her retirement after Yamataikoku wraps up in Takarazuka, but before that Poe no Ichizoku, a 2-act, was announced, so chances are she will not be retiring until the FOLLOWING Grand Theater performance at the earliest.
For top musumeyaku who leave separately, it’s harder to say and sometimes there isn’t a clear sign. It’s reasonable to look for this to happen when a top musumeyaku is on her second+ partner and gets an iconic role that would boost her OG career opportunities (for example, Ranno Hana and Otori Rei both left on Elisabeth and Misaki Rion left shortly after). I also don’t know a single top musumeyaku other than Chapi who has ever gotten a music salon and NOT retired.
For non-top stars, it’s not really about signs so much as it is categories of candidates. Anyone ken-10+ with no star track potential is a candidate to leave with any Grand Theater show, and their chances increase a bit when a top star is retiring and the new top star is their junior. A lot of forever background types choose to leave early to pursue families/other careers before they get “too old.”
TRANSFERS
It’s really hard to predict exactly who will transfer where, but there are indications that transfers might happen. For example, here are some things I see currently: After Bakumatsu Taiyouden, Yukigumi will have 8 fewer people than Tsukigumi, the next smallest troupe, and 15 fewer people than Soragumi, the largest troupe. Soragumi has too many people who appear to be star tracked. Hoshigumi has kind of a messy hierarchy after Coto. It just makes for a general feeling of instability, and I think a shuffle is going to happen this year.
Generally if someone is obviously star tracked and blocked, there is a good chance they will be transferred. Daimon was a perfect example; she was Mirio’s nibante, but they’re in the same class, and waiting on Mirio would have made Daimon a very old top star AND pushed back the timeline on everyone else in Hanagumi. Now she’ll be top at the end of next month and Mirio probably still has over a year in her.
Also when a young musumeyaku who has had some shinko leads and/or is heavily sponsored transfers, often it’s to become the next top musumeyaku of that troupe.
All of this just covers patterns! It doesn’t account for special circumstances (like injuries) or general rumors surrounding specific people, which definitely also happen (will we see a curveball named Miya Rurika????), but it’s a starting point!

Haruna [Unhatched Seiyuu] Part 1
Knock knock. Haruna enters.
Haruna: Masaki-san, Manager-san. You wanted to see me?
Manager: It’s about these pictures…
Haruna: These are…from the photoshoot the other day, for my promotional images…
Masaki: I want to hear your opinion first. What do you think of these photos?
Haruna: I…can’t say I like them. At all.
Masaki: And why would that be?
Haruna: My smile looks stiff and forced…my whole body looks stiff, really…
Masaki: That’s right. From head to toe, it appears that you are being forced to do something you do not want to do. These photos completely fail to show any of your charm.
Haruna: Yes…I agree…
Masaki: You were with her for this shoot, Manager. How could you give these the OK?
Manager: My apologies…honestly, we had already gone way overtime, so…
Masaki: I spoke with the photographer earlier as well. It sounded like it was quite a challenging time.
Haruna: Yes. The photographer was really generous and willing to stay overtime and try as many times as it took…
Haruna: But in the end, we just couldn’t get anything that looked right…
Masaki: Whatever the case may be, we cannot use these pictures for promotional images. You will try again tomorrow. I’ve booked the studio and the photographer already.
Manager: You want to try a reshoot?
Masaki: Let me be clear. These arrangements do not come cheap. There will be no further do-overs. Get some usable results this time, or I will not be happy.
Masaki: For the rest of today, Haruna, get some practice with having your photo taken.
Haruna: Practicing having my photo taken…?
Masaki: I’ll leave the specifics up to you. Manager, you will help her. This is your responsibility as well.
Manager: Understood. I’ll do my best.
---
Haruna: I’m so sorry, Manager-san. I failed at my job to the point that it’s even causing problems for you as well…
Manager: There’s no need to apologize. This is part of my job too.
Haruna: I’ll do whatever it takes. I will absolutely get better photos tomorrow!
Manager: That’s the spirit! Come on, follow me. No time like the present!
Haruna: Where are we going?
Manager: To the park. We’ll do your photoshoot practice there.
Haruna: At the park…?

Airi [Unhatched Seiyuu] Part 2
Previously: Part 1
Masaki: So, what did you think of your first kabuki show?
Chisa: Every sight was an explosion of delight! Every sound, a novel sensation!
Masaki: Indeed. And what about you, Airi? Did you glean anything useful regarding vocalization?
Airi: It was such a shock…the yells reverberating throughout the venue, across the entire audience. The timber of it, the timing!
Masaki: Sounds like you did. …Although, what do you mean by “timing”?
Airi: Watching the actor’s breathing, anticipating the pauses in the lines, timing it just right…
Chisa: “Nakamura House!” [1]
Airi: You could really feel that special live show atmosphere! I couldn’t get enough of it!
Masaki: Ah, so it wasn’t so much the actors’ performances, but rather…well, whatever works.
---
Airi: Nakamura House! Nakamura House!
Yuuki: I can barely hear you.
Airi: Why…?
Chisa: You were totally projecting yesterday, though.
Yuzuha: What could’ve changed between yesterday and today?
Airi: This is so strange…
Yuzuha: Is this what they call…beginner’s luck?
Chisa: Maybe.
Yuuki: I mean, you got it once, isn’t that enough?
Airi: No, it’s not!
Kirika: What’s going on in here?
Chisa: Kirika-sensei!
Airi: Yesterday I could yell out “Nakamura House!” so loud and clear, but now I can’t and I can’t figure out why.
Kirika: “Nakamura House”? What are you talking about?
Chisa: Oh, you know, the thing in kabuki theater when the audience shouts out something altogether.
Kirika: Ah…I’m sure it’s to do with how immersed you were in that context.
Chisa: The context…?
Kirika: If you’re immersed in the right circumstances, then you can unleash incredible power you didn’t even know you had. Why don’t you try imagining yourself back in the moment?
Airi: Nakamura-san…
Kirika: Try to remember. The massive venue, the stunning costumes, the flashy stage design. Out from the wings, the actor bursts onto the scene. The sound of the wooden hyoushigi clappers signal the moment…
Yuuki: Chonchon!
Airi: Nakamura House!!
Kirika: There you go!
Chisa: That was amazing!
Yuzuha: Excellente!
Airi: Yay! I did it!
Kirika: Now that you’ve recreated the scene in your head like that once, it’ll get easier and easier each time.
Yuuki: I bet you could call out other stuff now and not just the one name.
Airi: Definitely! I can call out all kinds of houses now! “Greenhouse! Powerhouse!” See?
Yuzuha: What about something like, “In the name of the stars, I will punish you!” [2]
Chisa: Oh come on, that’s like the most basic of basics! Right, Airi?
Airi: …
Chisa: A-Airi?
Airi: I can’t…those words…they hold too much power! I could never!!
Airi runs off
Kirika: Goodness…that one will need a lot more help in her training.
Fin.
---
Notes
[1]: Airi and Chisa are describing the custom of kakegoe, where the audience members at a kabuki show yell out certain phrases at certain points during the play. One of the most basic things shouted in kakegoe is the actors' yagou, their stage names that come from the name of their guild. The shout that Airi and Chisa use, for example, would be for an actor who is affiliated with Nakamura-ya, or Nakamura House, and thus has a stage name of "Nakamura-san".
[2]: A funny reference to Sailor Moon's iconic line, but with "stars" instead of moon.

Airi [Unhatched Seiyuu] Part 1
Airi: (Vocal volume…)
---
Airi: (Projecting my voice…)
---
Airi: (Little kids…can do it without even trying, huh.)
---
Airi: (Babies can cry all day long without losing their voice…)
---
Airi: (Babies…don’t ever worry about not being loud enough, huh.)
Manager: Airi?
Airi: Oh…I’m sorry, what is it?
Manager: …I’ll continue.
Manager: We’re trying to outline a plan for your future activities, so I wanted to ask you what you yourself hope to do…
Airi: (But people do get sick. Even children lose their voice when they catch a cold.)
Manager: Your main inspiration for going into this industry was transforming hero shows…
Airi: (What about cows? I’ve never heard of a cow losing its voice.)
Manager: Even beyond voice acting, it’s important to keep an eye on changes in international trends…
Airi: (Goats and sheep, cats and dogs, they can all let their voices out to their heart’s content.)
Manager: Airi? Is something on your mind?
Airi: Oh, I’m so sorry. Please go on.
Manager: The point of this meeting is to establish guidelines that will shape the future of your career. You need to be paying attention.
Airi: I’m sorry…
---
Masaki: Hmm, your vocal volume, you say?
Airi: Yes…I always try my hardest when we’re doing vocalization drills, but…
Masaki: You can follow all the correct theory, but there’s no accounting for individual differences.
Airi: Yeah…
Masaki: Why don’t you try going to watch a kabuki show?
Airi: Kabuki…theatre?
Masaki: It’ll be a change of pace, while also being a good opportunity to study theatrical actors. Who knows, you might learn something useful regarding your vocalization woes.
---
Airi: Sorry for making you come with me, Chisa-chan.
Chisa: It’s fine, it’s fine. I’ve always wanted to see a kabuki show at least once.
Airi: I was too scared to go by myself. Oh, here’s the venue.
Chisa: Oh wow, it’s huge.
Airi: (And the audience seems to…skew towards the older side. I’m a little intimidated…)
Airi: Aah…
Chisa: What’s wrong? That was quite a sigh.
Airi: I think I’m getting cold feet…
Chisa: Don’t say that! Come on, it’s not everyday we go see a kabuki show, let’s enjoy ourselves!

Rio Lesson Talk [Friday Daily] Part 1
Rio: Please, consider casting one of our talents!
Producer: Hmm, they’re all…rather green, it seems.
Producer: It would be one thing if they had even a little experience in their careers, but I’m afraid we’re not looking to hire complete beginners.
Rio: They’re good and eager workers! Please, don’t write them off…!
Producer: Well, I suppose I can consider it.
Rio: Thank you very much!
---
Rio: Sigh…it’s best to assume that won’t go anywhere, though.
Rio: Promotional work like this sure isn’t easy…
Masaki: Oh, Rio. What are you doing here?
Rio: Oh, Masaki-san! I’m just wrapping up another round of sales pitches. …Still nothing to show for it, though.
Masaki: I’m not surprised. It’s not often you find someone willing to take a gamble on complete fledglings.
Rio: You said it. Oh, what a cruel world…
Masaki: Getting the ball rolling is the hard part, and that’s where our responsibility lies. Don’t give up on it, okay?
Rio: You got it! I’ll keep giving it my all…!
Masaki: That said, don’t push yourself too hard either. It would be quite a problem for me if you work yourself into an early grave, you know.
Rio: I hear you! A Manager who doesn’t take care of their body can’t take care of their work, after all!
Rio: (...But still, I can’t just relax when I haven’t made anything happen yet…)

Yuzuha [Investigator of Earthly Delights] Part 2
Previously: Part 1
Yuuki: …Yuzuha’s still at it, huh?
Airi: She’s still fasting. If she keeps at it much longer, something really bad might happen...
Chisa: Let’s try talking to Masaki-san and Manager about it.
---
Masaki: …I see. So that’s what’s been up with Yuzuha.
Manager: I heard a little about it from Kirika-sensei.
Masaki: Well, if we leave her to it she’ll eat something eventually. Worst-case scenario, we can hook her up to an IV.
Chisa: Masaki-san, that’s a little…
Masaki: That was a joke. I do agree with you that someone needs to step in before she harms herself.
Manager: Why don’t we take her to the crêpe shop?
Airi: Even if we do, it’s not like we can force her to eat it.
Chisa: She can be surprisingly stubborn when she wants to be.
Yuuki: What if we tied her up?
Chisa: Let’s see if we can come up with something less extreme first.
Manager: We don’t have to force her to eat anything.
Chisa: Huh?
---
Yuzuha: Where are we going?
Chisa: We’re almost there. Since you’re so serious about this sādhanā of yours, we decided to take you to this amazing meditation spot we found for you.
Airi: We’re almost there, it’s just around this corner.
---
Yuzuha: Wait, isn’t this the way to…
Chisa: There it is, you can see it from here.
Yuzuha: That’s the crêpe shop! I told you, my body isn’t ready yet.
Chisa: Oh, you don’t have to eat anything. You’re just watching the rest of us.
Yuzuha: Huh?!
Yuuki: This is us helping you with your crêpe sādhanā, Yuzuha.
Airi: Wowww, there’s so many different flavours! I don’t know which to choose.
Yuzuha: Very well. I accept this challenge on my path.
Chisa: Thought so. Make yourself comfortable then, we’ll go order.
---
Manager: You’re not eating, Yuzuha?
Yuzuha: Manager! What are you doing here?
Manager: What do you mean? I’m getting a crêpe, obviously. Want me to buy you one too?
Yuzuha: No thanks! My sādhanā isn’t finished yet.
Manager: Airi’s and Chisa’s crêpes look good too, huh. And oh wow, is Yuuki eating that limited-time one?
Yuzuha: L-limited time…
Yuzuha: Mm…Okay, fine, I can’t take it anymore! One special limited-time crêpe, please!!
---
Manager: All’s well that ends well.
Yuzuha: Yeah! This is the best!
Chisa: Look, Yuzuha’s face doesn’t look so pale anymore. That’s a relief.
Yuuki: How’s it taste, Yuzuha?
Yuzuha: Soooo good! That sādhanā was so worth it!
Airi: She’s absolutely wolfing it down…you want mine too, Yuzuha-chan?
Yuzuha: Please and thank you!!
Fin.

Riko [Embrace Your Good Fortune] Part 1
(This is my first post with the new post editor. Please let me know if you notice something broken in this post, or if something about the move has broken something in older posts)
Riko: I’ve been having unbelievably good luck lately.
Aya: How so?
Riko: I’ve had days when I was late leaving the house, but then the train was delayed too so I make it on time anyway! And days when the forecast said it was gonna rain, but then it didn’t!
Mahoro: You get so excited over the tiniest things.
Miharu: Oh, speaking of good luck. The other night I was buried alive.
Riko: Uh…
Miharu: It was all just a dream, though.
Mahoro: I’d sure hope so…But what’s that got to do with luck?
Aya: I think she means how a dream like that is supposed to be a good omen.
Miharu: Mhm, that’s what they say.
Riko: Oh, that reminds me! I had a dream where I saw a hawk eating an eggplant on Mt. Fuji.
Miharu: That’s amazing, Riko! That’s all 3 of the most auspicious things to see in a dream!
Aya: Hawks are carnivores, though…
Mahoro: Maybe you should buy a lottery ticket.
Riko: You know, that’s what everyone thinks about, but isn’t that kind of a waste of good luck?
Mahoro: How so?
Riko: I mean, I’d just rather use that fortune on something that really mattered, you know…
---
Riko: Mmmm, the weather is so nice today! Even just being able to go for a stroll on a day like this is good luck in my books\~
A gust of wind blows
Riko: Ah! My hat!
A gust of wind blows
Riko: Aaaa! My hat, my hat! Please, someone help catch my hat!
Woman in Suit: It’s this one, right?
Riko: Oh, thank you very much! I owe you big time. This is my favourite hat.
Woman in Suit: Hm…Are you free right now, by any chance?
Riko: Huh? I guess I am. W-wait, where are you taking me?
Woman in Suit: It’ll only be a moment…please, right this way.
---
Riko: What is this place? It looks like a lesson studio…
Woman in Suit: Please excuse me, I have a last-minute entrant for the audition here.
Riko: Wait, an audition?
Woman in Suit: Allow me to introduce you. This is Akiko Kuroyama, the film director. Perhaps you’ve heard of her?
Riko: (Whaaaat?! Director Kuroyama?! She’s one of the biggest names in Japanese film!)
Director Kuroyama: Can I have your name?
Riko: R-Riko Hinakura.
Director Kuroyama: Do you have any film experience?
Riko: Can’t say I do!
Riko: (Ah, um, what do I do?! Shouldn’t I let the agency know first?)
Director Kuroyama: Let’s see…can you try crying, please?
Riko: Huh? …Wait, like right now?
Director Kuroyama: …
Woman in Suit: Yes, right now.
Riko: But…
Woman in Suit: You are a perfect match for this character, I’m sure of it. So please, give it a shot.
Riko: (...No, I shouldn’t. I’ll get in trouble with Masaki-san if I go taking auditions on my own like this.)
Riko: Um…I don’t particularly feel like it, so I’m not sure that I really could.
Director Kuroyama: …
Riko: Sorry for taking your time! I’ll get going n-
Director Kuroyama: You pass.
Riko: What?!
Woman in Suit: Congratulations. We’ll see you at the final round.
Woman in Suit: Here are the files. Please come back here after 1 week!
---
Riko: …So yeah, that’s what happened…
Riko: I’m really sorry! I didn’t mean to take an audition on my own like that, let alone get to the final round.
Masaki: What luck!
Riko: Heh?
Masaki: It is very difficult to even get an audition for one of Director Kuroyama’s films.
Riko: But I’m trying to become a voice actress…
Masaki: These days, seiyuu have to take whatever work they can get, even if it’s not a voice acting role. By all means, please give the final round everything you’ve got.
Riko: Are you sure?
Masaki: We’ll give you as much support as we can. Manager.
Manager: Yes?
Masaki: Clear Riko’s schedule through all of next week.
Manager: Understood.
Masaki: Kirika.
Kirika: One step ahead of you. I’ll develop a special training plan for Hinakura-san.
Masaki: For the next seven days, Riko’s audition is top priority for all of us. Coordinate, keep each other updated, pull out all the stops!
Riko: (Whoa, this is turning into a pretty big deal…)

Rie [Omen of the Guest Star] Part 1
Kirika: Alright, we’ll end our lessons here for today.
Manager: Rie, do you have a moment?
Rie: Manager? What is it?
Manager: Can you come to the president’s office later? She wants to see you.
Rie: Masaki-san…?
Masaki’s office. Rie enters
Masaki: Hello. Sorry to call you over, I’m sure you must be tired.
Rie: No problem at all. What did you want to talk to me about?
Masaki: I have a job request here that asked for you specifically.
Rie: A job? For what kind of role?
Masaki: Well, it’s not voice acting work.
Rie: Oh, it’s not?
Masaki: What they wanted was your looks. In other words, it’s a modelling job.
Rie: Modelling…?
Masaki: It’s actually from an old acquaintance of mine who works as a cameraman. He’s holding a photography exhibition with a theme of “girls in pursuit of their dreams”.
Masaki: I showed him pictures of several different candidates, but it seems you were the one that really caught his eye.
Manager: Rie does have a very unique style.
Masaki: You’ll be compensated properly for your time, of course. I believe it’s a good opportunity, what do you say?
Rie: I see…I’ll give it a shot.
Manager: I guess he’s running a little late.
Rie: This is a perplexing choice of location for a photoshoot.
Manager: The idea is that it’s a glimpse into daily life, he said.
Rie: If it’s supposed to feel like daily life, then why choose me…? I am the very embodiment of the unusual…
Cameraman: Sorry for the wait!
Manager: Oh, hello! We look forward to working with you. Rie, you greet him too.
Rie: I am the archdemon Ellis, but you may call me Rie. It is a pleasure.
Cameraman: Uh-huh…
Manager: Sorry, I promise she can behave…
Cameraman: Alright, let’s start with a shot of you smiling at the camera.
Rie: Perhaps a laugh to go with it? Hahahahaha!
Cameraman: No, just a smile is fine.
Manager: (Rie seems nervous…)
Rie: Okay then, how’s this…?
Cameraman: You look like you’re glaring at the camera. Can’t you smile a little more naturally?
Rie: This is natural for me.
Cameraman: Okay, how about you turn around, and then when I call your name you look back this way.
Rie: Very well. I will do as you say.
Cameraman: Rie-chan~
Rie: How dare you address me so casually?!
Manager: Sorry… Rie, can I talk to you?
Rie: I’m not handling this well at all, am I…?
Manager: Are you embarrassed?
Rie: N-no, I most certainly am not…
Manager: I believe in you. You just need to act natural. Try to relax.
Rie: I don’t know if I can. I don’t know how I should smile…
Manager: (As I thought…)
Rie: It’s hopeless…let’s just call it off and go home.
Manager: You won’t get paid if you call it off now.
Rie: Manager…help me…
Manager: I got it. Leave it to me.
Cameraman: Can we get back to the shoot…?
Rie: Oh, yes…
Cameraman: Okay, let’s try that again. You’ll turn around, then face me when I call you.
Rie: (I have to get it right this time…)
Manager: Oh! Mei’s here!
Rie: She is? Where?!
Cameraman: Oh, that’s good!
Cameraman: This is perfect! Exactly what I wanted!
Rie: Wait, really…?
Cameraman: You looked so cute! These are wonderful!
Manager: I’m glad. Good work, Rie.
Rie: Well, of course. When I unleash my full power, such results as this are inevitable.
Manager: (Whatever you say…)

Notes
The "guest star" in the card name comes from a term in ancient East Asian astronomy (客星, literally "guest" and "star"), describing stars that suddenly appear at a point in the sky where there was not one before, before disappearing again. (With our modern understanding of astronomy, we can identify several different phenomena that could explain some of these observations, such as variable stars and supernovae).

Airi Lesson Talk [Fairin’ ∞ Fairin’] Part 1
In the living room: Morning.
TV: Now then, let’s see what the stars have in store for us today!
Yuuki: Airi, food’s ready. Let’s eat.
Airi: Give me a second! I just want to see this fortune...
Chisa: You shouldn’t pay too much attention to that stuff, Airi. It’s basically just random garbage someone slapped together.
Yuuki: Wait, really?
Chisa: Well, that’s what they say, anyway. I don’t actually know the details.
Airi: My fortunes tend to come true, though.
TV: Unfortunately, to all my Pisces friends out there, it seems you’ll have the worst luck today.
Airi: Oh no...
Chisa: Airi’s a Pisces...
TV: You’ll be particularly unlucky in recording studios! Be careful, everyone~
Chisa: Not like most people would have any reason to be in a recording studio...
TV: Your lucky colour is blue. Hm, if only things would clear up like a sunny blue sky. Oh well. Now then, everyone, we bid you good day~
Chisa: What an annoying way to end the program off. Hey, Airi. Uh, Airi? What’s the matter?
Airi: Th-the recording studio... They said I shouldn’t go to the recording studio...
Later, in Masaki’s office
Yuuki: Huh?! We got requested for a job?!
Masaki: That’s right. It’s a new anime, titled “Fairin’ ∞ Fairin’”. Their casting department asked for you four specifically.
Airi: Really?! Us?!
Masaki: Here are your scripts. Read them carefully.
Airi: Okay!!
Masaki: We’ll set up a few mics and things in the lesson studio to make it feel more like a recording studio starting tomorrow, help you get used to the environment.
Airi: A recording studio...?!
Masaki: Exactly. It won’t be much, but you’ll have a screen to watch and follow along with, just like the real thing. It’ll be good practice.
Airi: P-please do not!
Masaki: Is there a problem, Airi?
Manager: Did those fortunes of yours tell you something weird again?
Chisa: They did. Said she’d have especially bad luck in recording studios.
Manager: What a dumb fortune.
Yuuki: It’s still just the same old room we do our lessons in, there’s nothing to worry about.
Yuzuha: But we’ll have to go to a recording booth eventually anyway, right?
Manager: There’s no avoiding it.
Airi: Uuu...
Manager: What program is this? Let’s sue them.
Masaki: Let’s not. They’re just doing what they do. It’s up to the listener how they take the results...
Airi: Right...
Airi: (What do I do...this is so scary...)

Flying Up, Little Birds! Part 2: A Little Bird in the Big Sky -1-
Previously: Part 1: Take Off the Armour Around Your Heart.
In Masaki’s office.
Manager: (What do we do... This is only their first meeting, and already...)
Yuzuha: Hm? It feels kinda tense in here.
Manager: Y-you’re just imagining things.
Airi: You’re...Yuuki-chan, right?
Manager: Umm. Why don’t we start with introductions?
Masaki: You know each other’s names and faces, right? That’s good enough for now. Happy move-in day, everyone.
Masaki: But before that, I have a question for all of you. Let’s start with Yuuki.
Yuuki: Eh? Me?
Masaki: What made you want to become a seiyuu, Yuuki?
Yuuki: ...It's hard to say, there's a whole bunch of reasons. Pass.
Manager: You can’t just say pass.
Masaki: I see. So you have a variety of reasons.
Masaki: Next, Airi. Same question.
Airi: Y-y-yes. Um...I’m sorry.
Masaki: What for?
Airi: This morning’s fortune said I should take deep breaths when I’m nervous so, do you mind if I do that right now?
Masaki: Go ahead.
Airi: Breathe in... and out...
Masaki: Feeling calmer now?
Airi: Yes! Umm, I’m sorry. What was the question again?
Manager: Did you not hear it earlier?
Airi: I’m sorry. This morning’s fortune said I should only listen to others in moderation...
Manager: Fortunes say things like that too?
Masaki: Sigh... Let me ask you again, then. What made you want to become a seiyuu, Airi?
Airi: Oh, I see, yeah. You’re right, of course it’s impossible for me. How silly of me to even think that I could...
Manager: It’s just a question, Airi.
Airi: O-Oh, okay. Um...I want to change myself! Please!
Manager: I’m...not sure what you’re saying “please” for...
Masaki: Okay, next, Yuzuha.
Yuzuha: Me? I guess to make memories? Something like that.
Manager: Make memories?
Yuzuha: Everyone needs some in life, right? Memories of summer vacation and stuff.
Masaki: So you’re comparing this to a vacation?
Yuzuha: It’s along the same lines, I think.
Yuzuha: But this is much more important, of course.
Manager: (Wh-what a strange girl...)
Chisa: You know...
Masaki: What is it, Chisa?
Chisa: Isn’t it weird how casual they’re all being about this?
Yuzuha: Casual? What makes you say that? Ahaha.
Chisa: Are you making fun of what it means to be a seiyuu?
Airi: Not at all.
Yuuki: My dad’s the one doing that.
Chisa: I didn’t ask what your dad thinks!
Manager: Hey, Chisa.
Chisa: Yuuki, right? You just said pass? You can’t even say anything about what makes you strive for this goal?
Yuuki: Muh?
Chisa: And then Airi. If you’re just here to change yourself you could just go to a temple. Heck, why not go all the way to India, for that matter?
Airi: Ah...I think I’d like that.
Chisa: And Yuzuha. I don’t understand you at all. You’re like some sort of monster.
Yuzuha: Merci.
Chisa: It wasn’t a compliment...
Yuuki: Then, what about you, Chisa?
Chisa: What about me?
Yuuki: The reason you want to become a seiyuu.
Chisa: My answer is simple, so I’ll keep it nice and short. Because it’s been my “dream” since I was a child, that’s why!
Yuuki: ... And?
Chisa: What do you mean, and?
Yuuki: Why do you want to become a seiyuu?
Chisa: I just said! Because it’s my dream!
Yuuki: Aah, so it’s like that, huh. I understand everything now.
Airi: What a nice answer.
Yuzuha: Kinda vague, isn’t it?
Chisa: Wait...what’s with this atmosphere? It’s like I’m the weird one now.
Manager: Well...well. Ahaha.
Manager: (Could things have started off any worse...?)

Blossoming Actor Part 8: Sour Flowers -2-
Previously: Part 7: Sour Flowers -1-.
Maika: Manager, do you know what Masaki-san wants to talk about?
Manager: She didn’t say. All I know is she wanted to see you in her office...
Shiho: It must be important if she’s having us come meet her in person.
Honoka: What if it’s a big job or something? Maybe we got specially selected for some unbelievably huge roles!
Maika: Nothing that convenient is gonna just happen, you know.
Honoka: What’s your problem?
Haruna: Calm down, you two.
Shiho: One thing. We can’t assume she wants to see us for a positive reason. If you think about it rationally, there’s a good chance it’s in fact the opposite.
Haruna: You mean, it’s something bad? Could Masaki-san be angry with us...?
Manager: I don’t think so. You guys would know if she had a reason to be cross with you, no?
Maika: Ahhh! M-maybe…she found out about that...
Haruna: Maika-chan, do you have an idea what it might be?
Maika: I mean, it’s not a big deal or anything but...
Shiho: Out with it.
Maika: Well, you know how there’s always someone hanging around this street handing out tissue samples? It’s free tissue, right?
Maika: So I passed by over and over and took a lot of samples. Eventually they got mad and told me to knock it off.
Shiho: You’re such a fool, Maika. They definitely called the agency to complain about you after that.
Honoka: That’s pretty stupid, yeah.
Maika: I mean, it was free! It’s normal to take some!
Shiho: There are limits.
Honoka: It’s not like tissue is expensive either. If you really want a lot of tissue I’m sure it’s faster to just buy some.
Maika: Yeah well, I’m sure you’ve got another idea what this meeting is about, Honoka.
Honoka: Me? I don’t think I’ve done anything... Ah! What if she found out about that...
Manager: Did you do something, Honoka?
Honoka: When I was moving into the dorm, I accidentally smacked the front door with a dumbbell and chipped it.
Manager: Oh, you did? I had no idea.
Shiho: That dorm is the President’s precious baby. She’ll definitely rake you over the coals for damaging it.
Maika: Haruna got hurt because of one of your dumbbells, too! Don’t bring dangerous things like that into the dorm!
Haruna: It wasn’t a big deal. And I should’ve been looking where I was going too.
Honoka: What’s with you two?! I’m sure Shiho isn’t innocent either, yeah?
Shiho: Well, I suppose it’s possible she found out I compared her to Fudou the Wisdom King. [1]
Manager: Fudou the Wisdom King?!
Shiho: My father asked what kind of person she was, so I used figures from Buddhism for reference.
Maika: Shiho’s has to be the worst, right?
Honoka: Definitely the worst.
Shiho: I wasn’t insulting her at all. Fudou the Wisdom King is magnificent.
Maika: Wait, but weren’t we trying to figure out why she might be mad at us?
Shiho: That’s what I’m saying. Mine is different.
Honoka: If it wasn’t an insult then what was it? Even if you say it was a compliment I doubt she’d be happy to hear it.
Haruna: Everyone, please calm down...
Haruna: We don’t even know that she’s mad or that it’s anything negative at all. So let’s stop pointing fingers and trying to figure out who to blame...
Manager: Er...
Manager: (I wonder if something happened with these four...)
Masaki: There’s only one reason I’ve gathered you all here.
Masaki: It is time to choose a leader for this team.
Haruna: Choose a leader...?
Masaki: That’s right. Moving forward, you will need a leader who will bring this team together.
Masaki: To that end, today I would like the four of you to choose amongst yourselves who that leader will be.
To be continued...in Part 9: New Leaf, New Leader.
Notes
[1]: Shiho compared Masaki to Fudou, also known as Acala, one of the Wisdom Kings in Buddhism. In Japanese Buddhism he is revered as a benevolent figure who protects the righteous and destroys evil, but he is often portrayed as full of wrath and fury.

Rinne [Look Up to the Sky] Part 1
Rinne: That audition the other day? I really passed?!
Masaki: It sounds like they’re looking for an energetic girl to play the part. It’s not a major role, but do your best.
Rinne: Yes, of course!
Manager: It’s a little short notice, but the recording is next week.
Rinne: Got it! Thank you so much!
Rie: Way to go, Rinne! Good for you.
Rinne: Thanks! But you know, I’m kinda nervous.
Satori: I’ve heard eating ramen before a recording helps.
Mei: I’ve heard of that too. Apparently the oil is good for maintaining moisture in your mouth.
Rinne: Ooh, I didn’t know about that.
Mei: But ramen has a very strong flavour. Eating something like that right before recording might be problematic…
Rie: That’s true. It’s not exactly easy on the stomach.
Satori: Spaghetti pasta with garlic and olive oil works too, I think.
Rie: Garlic has been the mortal enemy of demonkind since the beginning of time. We’d do well to avoid it.
Rinne: I don’t mind it, though?
Rie: No, seriously, you really shouldn't go in with your breath smelling like garlic. Especially as a rookie seiyuu.
Rinne: Then how about I gargle with oil afterwards?
Mei: Are you seriously considering that?
Satori: Let’s not even entertain that idea.
Rinne: What do I do? What should I eat…?
The next day.
Manager: Ready to go, Rinne?
Rinne: Yes! As ready as I can be!
Manager: Did you eat lunch?
Rie: No, I was planning on getting something on the way.
Manager: Sounds good. We can do that.
Rie: Good luck, Rinne! Break a leg.
Rinne: Thanks! Here I go~!
