You know, I realize now I've been sub-baited with André Grandier. Edit: gUYS THIS WAS A JOKE TERM JESUS CHRIST

It's just... from the promotional art and earlier scenes I read, I expected this sensitive guy who would be Oscar's right hand, the shadow to her light, as described.

But instead we get this possessive territorial dude who tries to force her into stuff and to bend to his love for her or die.

See offenses: kissed her when she was unconscious, nearly raped her, and then nearly killed her because he couldn't bear the thought of her "belonging to another man".

Man, I wanted this. Where was this?

Like... I guess I knew back in the 70s women liked men who took initiative (in a generous sense of the word) as a romantic trope, but. Oscar's entire narrative seems to indicate she would be the one taking initiative and not settle for a man who tries to decide shit for her?? Which is why her relationship with André suffered, in my view.

I understand the intention was for her to love a commoner as an equal, as a parallel for her to leave the nobles and live for the Revolution. And I did expect André to fight against his class position and take action in order to be equal to Oscar. But I'm sure there could've been better tropes to use instead? Some things you can take, but when those things are love and sex it makes your character a rapist.

And no matter how many beautiful pages show Oscar crying out her love for him, those consistent scenes that are now part of André's character ended up making them either a toxic couple or a badly-written one within the story. Or both.

Am I so wrong in thinking that? Am I so wrong in thinking this relationship wasn't adequately portrayed?

My friend and I finally got to watch some scenes from the Korean Musical and oh boy I wish I could watch the whole thing and speak Korean to some extent, but for now I have to make do with what YouTube offers me

The way he's beaming when he's singing about Oscar?? His love for her is so overpowering and brings him so much joy it's really contagious 😭

2) 독잔

I like how they changed the wine scene (I still loved all the drama in the manga, but I feel like others wouldn't hate André so much if this is how the scene looked in the first place) Also André literally reached enlightenment after Oscar said she'd never marry 😭😭😭
