Carlos Valdes smiling when he sees Eurydice after turning around really reminds me of the original line of that scene. "I missed you." That's an insane acting choice, Carlorpheus you are loved.

Jayce is mostly not like Orpheus because even though he tried to bring his bf science buddy back, Viktor still came back wrong regardless of whether or not Jayce had doubt (even when he did have doubt he didn’t falter. Jayce >>> Orpheus)

However, Jayce IS like Hadestown Orpheus in that in Season 1 he spent 100% of his lab time post-Council promotion working on a way to save Viktor’s life and cure him. He didn’t even notice that Viktor was already fading until it was too late. Orpheus toiled away on a song to fix the seasons for Eurydice and make life easier for her, but he was so consumed by this labor of love that he didn’t even notice his girlfriend already fucking died/left for Hadestown.

Viktor and Eurydice, both feeling neglected by the one that was supposed to stay by their side, are forced to take matters into their own hands and trade their autonomy for life/livelihood. Both of them also thought it would give them more autonomy but ended up with someone/something controlling them instead.

I was originally going to draw the off-broadway Hadestown Orpheus and Eurydice but just like the doubt, the brainrot came in and demanded I draw the lawyers

I’ve only ever listened to the off-broadway and the original concept album bc my sister got me into Hadestown back in like 2018

There’s so many lines where I’m just like “!!!! THAT WORKS SO WELLLLL” like fr?? I have many many thoughts

For the fates, I couldn’t decide between Dahlia or Iris, but I ended up going with Dahlia

ALSO THE TOP OF MILES’S SHIRT AND HIS SKIRT BEING THE CRAVAT 🤭🤭🤭

AND GODOT TELLING PHOENIX HE CAME BACK FROM HELL TO FIGHT HIM SO HIM BEING THE KING OF THE UNDERWORLD HEHEHEHEH

okay so i've been working on some hadestown designs on and off for MONTHS and i wasnt planning on posting them until they were all done but i decided to post what i have done to maybe motivate me to finish the rest. so heres the two main couples!! every time i listen to hadestown a little fake production plays in my head so i wanted to get it out into the world. notes under the cut i have a lot to say <3

my orpheus is a butch lesbian idc you cant take this away from me

i'm bringing back the jean jacket from the london production because i love it so much but ALSO because its always bothered me that orpheus is the only human character that doesnt get a jacket for the winter?? it's worn for some scenes in act 1 including wait for me but is gone in act 2. i imagine she lost it at some point during the journey to the underworld, especially because its so hot down there

the idea was that orpheus' clothes are pretty nice (nice slacks, nice shoes) but theyre all worn out. scuffed shoes, baggy knees, holes in the shirt etc etc

patch on the knee matches eurydice's dress <3

i like the idea of eurydice having a bright dress under her huge dark coat. during summer she is happy and opening up to orpheus so her wardrobe changes to reflect that. but on the flip side during winter when her coat is stolen she is forced to bare her raw self to hades

she keeps her headband even in her hades uniform to show shes still holding onto her fading memories and individuality

okay so while i was working on this i came to the realization that i dont really like persephone's dress that much. and then i realized i can do whatever i want.

i referenced a lot of 30's evening gowns. i wanted something poofy and with a lot of movement. not super happy with how i drew the sleeves but its hardddd

theres this one persephone wig that has gray streaks in her hair i loveeee

both dresses of hers would be very shimmery and sparkly. im imagining a lot of subtle texture thats just hard to capture with digital art

i still HATE drawing suits

not a lot to say about hades i didnt stray too far from his established look because its so perfect

OH i added a red pocket square to both match the red back of his vest but also to be evocative of his heart! like under all the layers and walls he still has some feelings lol

I got some stuff. It is really touching to see the OGs on the stage for Reeve once again. And that final turn -screams- my heart.

not to make ANOTHER hadestown comparison post but i feel so much more determination in damonpheus’s wait for me than i do in reevepheus’s. however, when it comes to the end of the song, damon’s descending “wait”s are getting more and more unsure, like he’s losing steam by the end. his final “wait” is also sung by him alone, as eurydice drops off after the penultimate “wait.” this is not an issue of performance; damon’s orpheus is actively losing the confidence with which he started the show. the doubt is coming in, if you will.

meanwhile, the very purpose of broadway’s wait for me is to demonstrate reevepheus’s capacity for strength and courage—a capacity that the audience has not seen thus far (sorry, reeve). the middle section with the fates and the show-stopping finale is proof that reeve’s orpheus can hold his ground and he can be the one to rescue eurydice.

this is one of the many reasons i prefer broadway orpheus’s character arc—it follows a pattern (anxiety -> courage -> doubt) that NYTW orpheus does not possess the capacity for. the audience sees orpheus gain confidence only to tragically crash and burn when doubt inevitably comes in. this is a necessary aspect of the show; without the tragedy, hadestown wouldn’t be half as memorable or brilliant as it is. as much as we would all love to see damon daunno sing the end of broadway wait for me, it just doesn’t align with his character.
