Answer all 50 questions!
I've never been asked to do all of them before...but challenge accepted!
What are three shows in your watchlist that you’ve been meaning to get to? --- I have so many...but if I had to pick 3 I would say Daredevil, Ms. Marvel, and Marvel's What If...? .
Describe your favorite pair of socks --- Very fuzzy, with white and green stripes.
Do you like smoothies?---Yes, but I don't have them very often.
What do you wear when you have to dress nicely?---Usually dress pants with a plain long sleeve shirt, I don't have many nice clothes lol.
How do you like your eggs?---Scrambled or hard boiled.
What do you use to keep your place when you’re reading a book?--- A Lord of the Rings bookmark I got as a gift, featuring Gollum. I don't know how this became my go to bookmark, but it is now, so...yeah.
What color dominates your closet?--- My closet has a lot of coral colors (oranges, pinks, yellows...)
Do you collect anything? If so, what?---Funko POPs. I started collecting them a couple of years ago, and I can't stop. I have tons of Marvel ones, and my Stranger Things collection of Funko POPs is growing. In total, I have 132 of them...I'm both proud of this number as well as embarrassed by it...
What sounds or scents calm you down?---Any sort of music helps calm me down, but lately Djo's song End of Beginning has been my go to song when I'm stressed. It has such a great vibe...it's by far one of my favorite songs.
What’s your favorite kind of uquiz question? (Lyric, color, aesthetic, etc)---Aesthetic.
Do you wear glasses or contacts?---Glasses
What’s something about your best friend that you love?---My friend is so much like me, so that's something, but I really like how passionate she gets about the stuff that she likes!
Do you prefer to write in pen or pencil?---Pen. Ever since I was forced to write essays in pen at school, it's always my go to writing tool.
What are some places where you feel most at home?---Does a movie theater count? It's one of my favorite places in the world, and I've had so many great memories in movie theaters! It's probably my home away from home. But my room would have to be one too, it has all of my books, Funko POPs, and my dogs are usually in there too, so it's 100% home to me.
Do you have any houseplants? Do any of them have names?--- I have a croton plant that I have named Finnick, in honor of Finnick Odair from the Hunger Games.
Describe your favorite hoodie. How long have you had it? What makes it unique?---My favorite hoodie is a plain orange one, I got it a few weeks ago. It's my favorite color, it's super soft, and it's super baggy on me, which is exactly what I like.
What’s the last thing you ordered online?---I think it was a Funko POP display case, a replacement for a book that was destroyed by melted snow (the joys of living in Canada...)
What’s one historical event that you would have liked to have witnessed?---I don't know if this is considered a "historical event" but I would have loved to have gone to one of Shakespeare's plays. Then I might have been able to understand what was going on lol
What’s your favorite Halloween costume from when you were a kid?--- Probably a popstar.
What kind of math are you best at?---I would say mostly everything but probability. I love math, and was pretty good at it in school, but probability was super hard for me, and I have no clue why. My favorite math is most likely algebra.
What’s your favorite period in art history, your favorite famous work and/or your favorite style of art? If you don’t know any that’s ok!--- My favorite art work is probably The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh.
Iced or hot drinks?---Iced.
Which songs do you like to sing in the shower?---I don't usually sing in the shower, but if I did I would sing songs that I can just belt out to, like Hold my Hand by Lady Gaga.
Are you a good driver?---....no? I honestly feel like I'm a horrible driver, even though everyone else says otherwise.
Do you have any piercings or tattoos? Are there any that you want?---I have ear piercings, no tattoos, but I really want to get a tattoo one day, I just have no clue of what yet.
Can you cook or bake? If so, what are some of your specialties?---I can't cook or bake, really...and I don't really enjoy it. I do like cutting vegetables, though, so I'll help, but I'll stay far away from the stove.
Do you have any keychains on your home or car keys? Describe them!---No keychains yet, but I'm on the lookout for a nice one!
Can you swim very well? Do you like swimming?---I love swimming, but I wouldn't say that I'm very good at it.
Did you play with Legos as a kid? What was your favorite set?---I LOVED playing with Legos! My favorite set would be Jay's dragon from Ninjago!
Is your closet organized? If so, how?---Nope. Not organized at all.
What’s the last music video you watched?---It'll be Okay by Shawn Mendes
If you could dye your hair any color, regardless of how you think it would look, what color would you choose?---Dark blue or purple
Headphones or earbuds?---Earbuds
Can you read analog clocks?---Yes, but it takes me a minute...
Describe your favorite stuffed animal, either now or from when you were a kid.---A giraffe. That's all it is, a giraffe.
What’s an arcade or table game (air hockey, ping pong, etc) that you’re really good at?---None of them, I guess..?
Do you mind if others are in the kitchen when you’re cooking or baking?---It's fine if there are other people there on the rare occasion that I cook.
What’s one show you watch or musician you listen to that your friends know nothing about?---Djo for a musician, probably Glee for a show.
What was the best part of your day today?--- I get to stay up super late tonight because I don't work tomorrow!
What’s your favorite kind of tree?---Weeping Willow
What scent is your deodorant?---I have no clue and I'm not getting up to check lol.
Do you have any games on your phone? If so, which one(s) is/are your favorite?---I don't have many games on my phone, I never play them, either.
Do you shower with the lights on or off? On...wait, do people shower with them off???
What do you do with spare change?---Spend it on iced coffee
Do you have good handwriting?---I don't think so, but it's readable, at least
What’s the last thing a friend recommended to you that you looked into and actually liked?- The Flash TV show!
Do you like to go on walks?---Sometimes, but only when the weather is good and I have music.
Do you have a favorite plate or bowl?---Not really.
What’s your favorite thing to do when it’s raining?---Watch Netflix
Describe your perfect sleeping conditions---With too many blankets to count layered on top of me, like, way too many.
Thanks for the ask, this was super fun! And thanks to @idiot-stevie for the asks as well, I combined it in this big post!

The night was short, the pair were able to sleep a good 8 hours before getting ready the next morning to set off towards the train station. The pair decided to come back through to pick up the Pokemon to bring back to the island before heading home, but for now they could stay behind with Devra’s mom, just for a little while longer. The only team members that went with them were coal, the little hybrid houndoomxarcanine pup, and Aliza, who had taken a shine to the ponyta gifted to Peach, they seemed to play well together, even Dreepy liked her. With bags gathered, goodbyes said, and tickets bought, the pair stepped onto the train, waving off Olivia who came to see her daughter go, and off they went, towards the new Galarian island, the Crown Tundra.
Devra settled into her seat, waving goodbye to her mom as Coal jumped up in the seat next to her. He was small enough to be on the train, but Aliza had to stay in her pokeball for the time being. She looked over at her friend and smiled. “I hope you slept alright. I always thought the guest room bed was too hard.”
‘you saw me right? I was asleep in an aeroplane chair sitting up right, the bed was just fine. Much better than most of the places I sleep while away from the lab.” She recalled a few occasions being able to just about catch an hours rest while being trapped in a tree by aggressive Pokemon. “it was a warm, dry bed, with actual sheets and a roof over me haha. It was great.” She mindlessly petted Val, ordering a good coffee off the trolley that passed by, a sweet little wigglytuff in the train companies uniform asking for payment. She got her wallet out...or so she thought? Her hand reached into her bag, and hit something very cold and very smooth, reeling from the weird texture. Val sniggered to herself, shifting to the empty seat the bag sat on, to peer inside.
“I think we have a stow away.” Peach murmured, carefully opening the bag much wider than needed to get a good look. “‘Dreepy?” Inside was the little ghost type, she swore while waving to Devra’s mother at the station when they left, she had also spotted this Pokemon amongst others that had come to see the trainers off. He was wrapped up in one of Peach’s shirts, and seemed a little nervous about being caught in her stuff.
Devra looked over at Peach from her camera, having been looking th right some pictures. “Dreepy? He’s here? But I saw him with my mom. Here, I took a picture of the group when we left.” She held the camera so they could both look. “Oh....well. I thought he was in the picture.” She looked at the little Pokémon and sighed. “I guess he really wanted to come with you.”
“well, it’s fine with me, if he wants to come then I guess we’ve got a new team member.” She smiled a little at the Pokemon and let him and Val go and pick some snacks off the trolley before paying. She gave eyes at her steadfast fire type while Dreepy’s back was turned, asking without words for her to tone her usual disinterest down by like 20%, and she began chattering to the ghost Pokemon as she selected a strawberry filled dumpling thing in a wrapper. With the stern silence broken between the two, peach could relax a little, perhaps they two would be fine together for the trip.
“You’re right though, I swear I saw him on the platform too.” She glanced at the screen on the camera, seeing no signs of him. “‘how strange. You’re faster than you look hey bud?” Dreepy seemed quite proud of the compliment, and finally chose a chocolate-orange flavoured pastry twist before returning to the open bag to snack. “I’m buying, you and your team want anything?”
Devra nodded to Coal, who bounced over and happily started sniffing around until he found a pumpkin muffin. She then grabbed an apple cake and raspberry pastry for her other two team members before sitting back down. “I don’t need anything. Mom made sure I left full.” She laughed and opened Coal’s treat for him. “Tell Peach thank you young man.” The little pup barked happily as me bounced over to her for pets.
“she’s a good mom that one, I bet she’d enjoy a little holiday in johto, lots to see, I can hook you both up with some fun things to do for sure.” There was plenty of art galleries, heritage sites, and excellent restaurants throughout the region, not to mention live music, public gardens of great beauty, and a butt load of areas to sightsee in. Peach paid up and petted Coal, she was very glad to see him in capable hands, he took to Devra like a Ducklett to water, and she was confident he’d grow fast now he was out exploring with her. The Dreepy seemed to peep its eyes out at the hybrid Pokemon, still nibbling away on its snack.
Coal bounced back up next to Devra and started to munch on his treat. “I’m sure she’ll love the trip.” She looked out the window, watching the countryside roll by. “What’s the first thing you want to do once we get to the tundra?”
The professor sipped her hot drink, also enjoying the windows view. “hm, that’s a good question. I suppose I’d really like to find a place to stay, I’d normally not mind camping but I see the name ‘Crown TUNDRA’ and feel like I wouldn’t want to stay over night outside as much. What about you? You’ll be knees deep in herd Pokemon in no time I bet, anything else you’d want to check out?” The little Dreepy had snuck closer to the window to look out, still nibbling.
“Well, there is this big ruin building with a massive old dead tree that’s I’d love to see. But it’s at the top of one of the mountains here. So it might be tricky getting to.” She mindlessly pet Coal as she slowly started seeing snow. “And I think there’s a small town that we could ask about lodging at. Day trips to the tundra and back by dark?”
“‘oh I do love a tree, that sounds interesting, you could always try to find a Pokemon who could get you up that mountain a bit easier?” Peach had planned to do just that, the cold sneaking in, she could feel her bad knee aching ever so slightly already, and almost exactly after that thought crossed her mind, Val crept over to radiate heat, sitting in her lap, easing the dull pain.
“perhaps we can camp out some of the time, it’d be nice to see what happens at night, what Pokemon come out, just perhaps not in any heavy weather if it can be avoided. I did take a look online, the village there is usually pretty open to travellers, think I noticed a B&B or two with vacancies posted, I’m sure we’ll find somewhere to stay.” By this point, the views had turned pure white, in the fields you could see grazing Pokemon, a herd of wooloo who almost blending in with the surroundings.
Devra spotter the wooloo right away, fawning over one of her favorite Pokémon. Coal picked up on his trainer’s excitement, his tail wagging happily as she told him what snow was like. “Oh I can’t wait to see Aliza’s face when she sees her first snow!”
“thats right, she’s not even seen a December yet, or a snowy route. Good thing you got your camera then isn’t it, I’m sure mom and pop would like to see her first experience with it, you know Cole hasn’t seen snow either before. Bet he’s real excited about now.” The pup must have felt something, seeing all this white for the first time. “‘what about you Dreepy, you seen snow before?” The little ghost type looked back, didn’t turn its body at all, but bent it’s neck fully back to look at the Professor upside down, giving no clear answer, which to her seemed like a big fat no, but perhaps he was a little shy about answering right away. “no matter, we’ll soon be in the thick of it.”
She giggled at the sight of the little dreepy. “He’s seen some light snow before. I caught him in the wild area. The weather there is always so weird. But he hasn’t seen this much before. This is going to be a big busy day.” She snapped a quiet picture of dreepy being cute, then one of Coal barking at the snow through the window.
The train began to turn a final corner, the tannoy alerting passengers to the upcoming station, the only stop on the journey coming up very soon.
“looks like we’re nearly there, ready to get going?” The trip had been only short, but outside it looked like a completely different region, so much snow and ice everywhere, nothing but pine trees. The woman grabbed her bags, not before waiting for the little Dreepy to return to the inside where it wrapped up in the spare clothes to keep warm. Val took to her shoulder as she usually did.
Devra nodded, standing up to gather her things. She then picked up Coal, holding his stout body in her arms to keep him from running of into the snow. “We’re ready. I’m so excited to see this area. I’ve read about it but they took forever to get it safe enough for more visitors.”
Safe enough wasn’t always entirely foolproof, and Peach was quietly happy she packed a first aid kit. She had heard some murmurs it was a little risky here, a lot of tough Pokemon roamed about.
“I hope you’re right, I’m sure the locals wouldn’t put people at risk.” The pair stepped off the train once the doors pinged open, the brisk cold air swept past, pulling them all out onto the platform. People came and went, and before long they became aware of the exits and where to head to next.
Devra took a slight lead of the two, following signs towards the little town. “Well, they did give all of us coming here a safety talk too. I just hope trainers actually listen. You gotta be smart about this place.” She then set Coal down and let the little guy run circles around the two humans. “I think I’ll wait to let Aliza our until we’re settled.”
With the pup thoroughly enjoying the snow, the trainers paused to check their phones, a map was needed for a moment, before they began to hear some loud ruckus just outside to the right of the station, sounded like a man and a young woman, peach didn’t even register it much, turning her back to the noise almost instinctually, trying to figure out which way to go. Val however was being nosey and sat on her shoulder judging the people making all the noise pretty hard from the look on her face.
“I think you’re right, we should find somewhere to stay before we really go out on a wild adventure.”
She nodded, looking at her own map on her Rotom phone, thanking the Pokémon inside for his help. “It looks like we head on that way.” She pointed to the road as it took a slight left turn. “Shouldn’t be more than a 20 minute walk.”
“‘sounds good to me, wonder what Pokemon we might see on the way?” Pocketing the phone and hoisting her bag up a bit, Peach began to take a few steps, noticing the pair who were making such noise earlier, avoiding them entirely, they seemed to be having a dad-daughter tiff that was no ones business. Onward, to the first route of the Crown Tundra!
Devra took a glance at the arguing people and sighed, hoping the wouldn’t bother her or the Professor. Coal bounded ahead as they walked, but kept in his trainer’s sight. “It’s really pretty here. Just look at all the ice on these pine needles!” She crunched her way to a tree and found an angle to catch light in the ice.

63. sometimes I steal flowers from your garden on my way to the cemetery, but today you’ve caught me and have demanded to come with me to make sure the “[person] is [attractive] enough to warrant flower theft” and I’m trying to figure out how to break it to you that we’re on our way to a graveyard
Danbrey, sfw, please!
Here you go!
It’s the rabbit that draws her eye; it’s not everyday a bunny the size of a Beagle stops outside the window of Amnesty House. She follows the leash from the harness to the hand holding it, and spots a much bigger issue.
“Miss?” She steps onto the porch, “could you not take my flowers.”
“Yeeeeep!” The other woman drops the pocket knife she’s using to saw off the stems of tulips and irises, scrambling to her feet and tearing her fishnets in the process, “shit, um, I’m sorry, didn’t think you’d notice, I’ve done it before and you never, um, nevermind.” She pulls the rabbit back from the fence, “anyway, I really needed this, they’re really pretty and I think she’d like them-”
“Ohhhhh, I get it” Dani crosses her arms, “in that case, I’ll come with you. I want to see the person who’s cute enough to warrant multiple flower thefts.”
“Um, or! You could not do that and I could promise to never do this again?”
“Nope, my mind’s made up.” She slips on her Birkenstocks and heads down the front stairs. Jake and Moira are both home, so she’s not too worried about locking up.
“Fine. Let me just-” The woman scoops the rabbit up and sprints away. Dani could just let her go, but those were her heirloom irises, damn it, and she wants to make sure the person who gets them knows just how valuable they are. So off she goes, soles slapping the pavement as they head towards the lakeside.
She won’t be surprised if the recipient is hot; god knows the thief is. The freckles and red-streaked hair is just the icing on the combat-boot, denim-vested femme cake.
Growing up in this neighborhood means she never loses sight of her target, even when she’s cutting through alleys and taking sharp turns. Then the woman goes straight through a wall of junipers and Dani is not interested in getting that scratched up by plants today. This is one of the borders of the park, so all she needs to do is find the front entrance to relocate her very distinct thief.
Ten minutes of hunting later, she spots a red and black pompadour on the other side of a low, stone wall. She’s cross-legged on the grass, which the rabbit is happily munching by her side.
“Okay, seriously, does the person you’re seeing know those...are...aw fuck.”
The other woman turns from the gravestone she’s sitting by to look at her, “Yeah. This is kinda why I didn’t want you to come with me. I mean, it was a hella weird thing to do anyway, but” she sweeps her arm at the cemetery, “this is super not a date.”
“I’m so sorry.” Dani sits on the opposite side of the rabbit, “That never even occurred to me. I…” she sneaks a glance at the dates; the death was only three years ago, “I’m sorry for your loss, too.”
Silence settles between them; she feels like she should say something else, that it’d be rude to just shrug and walk away, but she has no clue what words are even appropriate here. The rabbit stretches its neck, bonking it’s nose into her hand. She pets it, smiling when it nestles closer.
“Mom really liked bulbs.” The thief says softly, “when I was little we’d always go for walks in the spring just so we could see the first ones popping out of the ground. She liked ones that were unique, so when I saw the orange and black ones in your garden all I could think was how happy they’d make her. How she woulda stopped to look at them whenever she walked past. I know it’s silly but I, um, this felt like the closest I could get to giving her that.”
The breeze carries dried iris petals from the headstone into the park beyond the wall.
“You could have just asked. There’s no way I would have said no if you told me what they were for.”
“It felt too weird. Everything feels weird these days.” She sighs, reaching out to rub dust from the stone, “I thought I was ready to come back, but it’s like the whole town is haunted.”
The fresh flowers wobble, then land on the grass. Dani grabs them and puts them back, the rabbit honking indignantly when she does.
“At least Dr. Harris Bonkers is having a nice time.” The other woman rubs the rabbit’s ears, “isn’t that right, buddy?”
“What’s he a doctor of?”
A small, beautiful smile, “Psychology. He worked hard for his PhD.”
“I bet.” She gives the doctor a final rub on the nose, “I’ll, uh, I should give you two some time alone.” Dani stands, brown eyes watching her the whole time.
“Thanks for the flowers.”
She smiles, “You’re welcome.”
--------------------------------------------------------------
Moira’s expecting a package, so Dani doesn’t even look up when the older woman answers the front door.
“Um, hi. I, um, I was hoping to get some flowers? The blonde who lives here said I should ask this time. I’m Aubrey? Wait, I don’t think I told her that.”
“Which blonde?”
“The cute one?”
“....I meant the boy or the girl.” Moira replies, amused, just as Dani reaches the door.
Aubrey waves, “Hi again. Could I take a few Irises?”
“Sure. Oh, wait, let me get you the pruning shears; the knife isn’t great for cuttings.”
“Dani! Could I get a hand really quick?” From the accompanying clanks, Barclay needs said hand urgently.
“Coming! Here, you can just leave them on the steps when you’re done.”
One hour and a narrowly avoided soup disaster later, she’s herding the others to the table when there’s another knock on the door.
“I, um, I stuck these in my bag without thinking.” Aubrey holds out the shears. In the porchlight, her eyes are red-rimmed and there’s a slight smear in the black lipstick on her upper lip.
“It happens. Jake, my roommate, once went a whole day with six boxes of poptarts in his bag because he got distracted while unloading groceries. Uh, if you’re not busy we’re just about to have dinner. Seems only polite to invite my biggest admirer.”
Aubrey raises her eyebrows.
“My, uh, the biggest admirer of my gardening?” Her cheeks are hot, but her flustered tone seems to relax Aubrey.
“Sure. I just have to make sure I get home in time to feed Dr. Harris Bonkers.” She grins and steps into the house.
It’s common for Amnesty residents to bring home friends (or strangers), so when Barclay spots Aubrey he simply ducks back into the kitchen for an extra set of cutlery and a bonus bowl. As always happens when Barclay cooks, everyone is too busy stuffing their faces for the first ten minutes of dinner to say much.
“So, Aubrey” Mama sips her tea, “what brings you to town?”
“I grew up here but, um, I left a few years ago to try and kickstart my career.”
“What do you do?”
Literal sparks fly from her guest’s fingertips as she wiggles them, “magic.”
“Whoah, sweet!” Jake leans forward, “do you do stunts?”
“Nah” Aubrey’s smile is brightening under the excitement, “I do sleight of hand, card tricks, that kind of thing. I like the classics. Lots of other people do too, but I hit a spell where no one was interested in booking me, so I came back here to regroup.”
“Smart thinkin’. Pretty much everyone here knows that tryin to make ends meet on the road can lead to serious trouble.”
“Or grand theft auto.” Dani smirks at Barclay.
“That was an accident!”
“Wait, what?” Aubrey laughs, the room feeling ten times brighter when she does, “how does that even happen?”
Barclay recounts the story, blushing all the while, then points out that at least he never got stuck halfway up an off-limits slope because he was daydreaming, and to which Jake responds that that’s not even in his top ten wipeouts, dude.
Aubrey hangs around, helping Dani with the dishes while they chat about childhood pets (Dani had a frog that required her to drop food on his head in order for him to notice it). When she finally re-laces her boots, her new friend is smiling constantly and Dani never wants to look at anything else.
“Hey, uh, tonight was really fun. Do you want to come by on Friday? I’m, uh, I’m cooking, so it won’t be as good as what Barclay made, but I’d love for you to try my breakfast salad. Oh, and my muffin. Muffins.”
“I’d love to. And don’t sell yourself short, flowergirl” Aubrey winks, shooting finger guns her way, “I bet your dinner is gonna rule.”
----------------------------------------------------
“What do you think? Too much?” Aubrey turns from the mirror. Dr. Harris Bonkers wiggles his nose.
“You’re right, the heels are too much. Gotta leave some plausible deniability. And be able to run away if this goes bad.” She tosses the black heels back into the closet and squeezes into the tiny bathroom to start on her make-up. It has to be perfect, or as perfect as she can get it in the mirror that’s inexplicably high up on the wall.
Yeesh, is getting ready to impress a cute girl really the thing making her consider moving back in with dad? It would be easier to find the right clothes if she had a space to hang them up in, instead of stacked boxes to dig through. But walking the streets where mom used to hold her hand, eating at the places they’d go for breakfast, all those vortexes of memories are hard enough to free herself from on their own. Sitting in the chair she used to, expecting to see her at the table or in the yard, those things would be too much.
It’s been easier since she found Amnesty. Since she found Dani. It’s hard to be stuck in the shadows of the past when there’s a beautiful ray of sunshine sitting next to you. She has dinner there most days now, practices her new routine while Dani updates the inventory for her online plant store.
Relatedly, Aubrey now has several rabbit-safe houseplants that Dani always offers to come check on. Aubrey’s actually pretty good with plants, but she’s not about to miss out on an evening sandwiched next to Dani on her futon and the ghost of jasmine perfume winding around her when she sleeps.
Amnesty is lit only by the string lights on the porch and the glow from the kitchen when Aubrey bounds up the stairs.
“Dani?”
“Oh, hey, you’re early.” Dani leans in the doorway of the kitchen and Aubrey’s brain sounds like a cartoon, nothing but “boiiings” and “wowzas” for a good ten seconds.
Dani’s hair is out of it’s usual messy bun, and instead of her overalls or patched jeans, she’s in a short, heather green tank-top dress. Getting on her knees to kiss the vine tattoos weaving up her legs would be too forward, but boy does she want to.
“Took an earlier bus just to be safe. Man, it’s so weird to be here when it’s this quiet.”
“No kidding; I can’t remember the last time I was the only one here.” Dani shoos her through the kitchen and out into the back garden. The little white table usually piled with tools is cleared of everything but a green tablecloth and two wine glasses. That’s another point in the “yes, this is a date” category. The first was that Dani was careful to emphasize that everyone would be gone for the night for camping, work, or ill-advised urban skate stunts.
“Sit your cute butt down, I’ll be right back with dinner.”
That’s the first butt-based compliment she’s gotten, so score one for this red skirt. When Dani comes back, Aubrey can’t help but bounce in her seat; her crush is carrying a board covered in fruit and bread, and she absolutely sees a fondue pot on the counter inside.
“Since Cheesy Heat closed, I thought I could recreate it for us. Kinda. Barclay said he thinks they used a super fancy cheese that’s hard to get here.”
“That’s probably why they went out of business. Dang, why so many fondue pots?”
“Barclay keeps getting them for Christmas.” She sets the chocolate one down next to the cheese, and when she tugs on her dress before sitting down Aubrey’s mouth waters from more than just the meal.
The stars come out as they take turns making a mess of the table cloth, but the longer she sits here, happier than she’s been in years, the more Aubrey knows she can’t put the question off.
“Why the fancy dinner tonight?”
Dani dabs her mouth with her napkin, “I, uh, I, Cheesy Heat was my go-to, uh” her voice drops to a whisper, “date place.”
“Ohthankgod.” Aubrey flops back in her chair, “this is a date.”
“Did you think it wasn’t?”
“I don’t know, I didn’t wanna, like, assume.”
“Fireblossom” Dani stands, making a little half circle to reach her, “the first time we met you were stealing from me assuming I wouldn’t notice.”
“To be fair, getting caught in petty theft is less terrifying than making an ass out of yourself in front of a hot girl.” She grins as Dani straddles her lap.
“...okay you’re right, I’d hate to embarrass myself in front of you. Again.”
“A girl who can run me down in sandals is pretty hot.”
“Pfft” Dani giggles, hides her face in Aubrey’s shoulder, “not as hot as a girl who can sprint while carrying a twelve pound rabbit.”
“Seventeen.” Aubrey kisses her cheek, whispers teasingly, “you shoulda told me this was a date, I could’ve brought flowers.”
“You can bring me some next time.” Dani sits up, smiling at her.
“Sweet, I know somewhere I can get them for free.” She bounces her eyebrows, making the vision of perfection in her lap laugh.
“Nope, this time it’ll cost you.”
“How much?”
Dani cups her cheeks and dives down for a kiss, Aubrey clinging to her dress and sighing as she slips her tongue between her lips.
“Few of those” Dani murmurs, brushing their noses together.
“I’m happy to pay them.”

haikyuu x otome: masterlist |  prologue
» synopsis:  a haikyuu x reader au where you, the player, are bound for university in a metropolis several hours away from home. hope and excitement are replaced with dread as you come to realize that juggling life as a student and a part-time employee takes a toll. from demanding classes to a ruthless manager, life just can’t seem to give you a break. that is, until you meet a certain someone who reminds you how to live and follow your dreams. somehow, when you’re with them, time stands still. maybe things are finally starting to look up. if only you could stay in those moments for just a little longer.
» disclaimer: i do not own haikyuu or any of the pixels in this post (i simply made collages out of them)
edit: it’s been brought to my attention that another HQ writer may have written something similar to this idea in the past and I was unaware. Though I haven’t seen this particular type of thing written yet, I don’t mean to claim this event idea as my own bc I feel a lot of events that ppl put up may have some overlapping themes n such (tho this idea would def be more specific and be cause for concern of plagiarism) and bc I would never want to steal ideas/not ask other writers first/not credit other writers (that’s not cool fam). If you have any issues with this event, pls bring them up w me, and if you know any other writers who’ve done smth similar, pls share w me their URLs! thank u for ur understanding :) I hope u can still enjoy haikyuu x otome :’)
» how to play:
I. you can refer here for the general rules of my blog. also, for this event (and it’ll say in the descriptions below), i’m only accepting one character per request. also the word count limits i wrote here may change as im getting started on actually writing requests lol
II. essentially a collection of x reader one-shots, drabbles, and smaus in which you are a busy college student whose only break seems to be spending time with friends who actually get you or the 15-minute lunch break during which you get to ignore annoying customers
Tumblr media
III. since this is otome-inspired, i have several options you can choose from. these options are essentially types of requests:
Tumblr media
» everyday is a new start
» drabble about how you meet the character of your choice
» it is not guaranteed y’all are gonna gel (get along) when you first meet,, warning: if the character is usually a bitch, i may write them as one LMAO jkjk but fr
» usually light, fluffy, and/or silly
» hmm tbh,,, idk word count,,, probs anywhere between 700-1k words (i edited this word count after writing my first thing bc HNNN)
» the only characters you can’t request this for is yamaguchi, tsukki n hinata,,, bc you meet them in the prologue AHAHA sry it’s nothing too spaicy since it’s just in the intro
Tumblr media
» it’s all in the little things
» one-shots about normal, daily interactions with the character of your choice
» in other words, these include what can go on in a day in the life of y/n and the character of your choice (after they’ve already met). in the city, the possibilities are endless
» give me a word (or several, cuz writing is hard lmao. also legit any word, like ‘orange’ or ‘nostalgia.’ i may choose only one or do a combination from your list :3) as a prompt and ill somehow make something of it lmao
» medium relationship development + exp
» 700-1.5k words
Tumblr media
» hmmm what should i get today?
» very short drabble with a character of your choice about various scenarios and thots i have in my head
» a complete surprise, totally random, may have no context
» may be serious, fluff, crack, etc.
» if u choose this u basically told me ‘surprise me’
» 100-300 words, depends on my mood
Tumblr media
» when i see your name pop up on the screen, i can’t help but smile
» short smau with a character of your choice
» fluff or crack, ur choice or leave that up to me (if unspecified, ill just flip a coin)
» you can either give me a word(s) as a guide or leave the topic of convo up to me
» 2-4 panels
Tumblr media
» you’d be surprised how much can happen in a day
» BMO has nothing to do with this, i just found a cute pixel of him
» spaicy relationship development, the scenes in which you actually make progress in the game
» one-shot with a character of your choice
» order from the following:
» macaron: when they realize they’ve fallen for you
» banana bread: when you realize you’ve fallen for them
» iced americano: when they feel a tinge of jealousy
» hot chocolate: when they see you crying
» matcha latte: when they have a longing to be around you
» cupcake: love confession (may be intentional or accidental)
» major relationship development + exp + sometimes confusion
» 1-2k words
» these will probs take me longer
Tumblr media
» all good things must come to an end
»  not as angsty as those bolded words above sound,,, unless you want it to be >:)
» drabble or one-shot with a character of your choice. the final interaction before finishing the game
» you have three options: good end (fluffy, romantic & the like), bad end (angst), or crack end (surprise)
» word count will be super variable, from 300-1.5k words
Tumblr media
IV. this forces me to write one-shots, drabbles, anything but hc’s, and also forces me to limit my word count. that said, this will take me a hot minute, y’all. word counts may change too bc i am,,, indecisive n untalented AHAHA
V. search for ‘haikyuu x otome,’ ‘haikyuu x otome special,’ ‘haikyuu x reader otome’ tags! i will tag each work under these c:
got it? have a request for me? send me an ask or submission!
request example: ‘start new game with akaashi’ or ‘love challenge with yachi in the empty lecture hall at night’ or ‘continue story with noya. words: tired, mangoes, music’
feel free to ask me if ur confused about anything and have questions! thank you so much for reading <3 im excited for this heh
inspired by recent haikyuu otome teasers i keep seeing online and the fact that i dropped my summer class and am taking on personal projects (like painting my room LMAO i gotta manifest my inner buff daddee ushi to move shit in my room bc i kid u not everything is rlly heavy in here. and i also delved back into otomes on my phone,, does anyone else play midnight cinderella or mr love LOL talk 2 me)

Lightfoot Quarantine Headcanons
(These are a few headcanons to pass the time with some more optimistic friends; stay safe and wash your hands!)
--So as suspected, Barley ropes the others into playing Quests of Yore first thing, as often as possible.
Tumblr media
--Colt infamously waged a short-range attack on the gelatinous cube. It. Did not end well.
--Barley is an essential worker and he jokes about it being the first time he’s been considered essential once before Ian threatens to show up at his job and pull the whole “Barley special” bit.
--”What is this? A brother coming to pay calls at my place of work just to inform the other village folk how adeptly I handle my profession?”
--”Barley, be quiet and appreciate yourself or I’ll intentionally go the wrong way up aisles.”
--Laurel and Barley come back from work with masks at the same time, coincidentally in the same patterns. Ian walks down to Target immediately after he sees them just to get a mask that doesn’t have a dragon on it.
--Barley quotes The Princess Bride at work in response to any reference to his mask and the customers love it.
--If Laurel and Colt don’t have to enforce the “No magic in the house” rule every other Tuesday--
--Many shenanigans ensue with using random things (moss, wildflowers, cool rocks) as assist elements to see what happens.
--Once Ian forgot he still had a splinter from practice and accidentally cursed Barley with a tickling cantrip. He never did hear the end of that one.
--Laurel jokingly "grounded" him for that one, to which Barley immediately declared since they were all on indefinite lockdown, the world was a lawless place and revenge-tickled Ian.
--Sometimes when Ian is really stressed out, Barley invites him to go for a “quest”. There, they drive past Ye Olde 7-11, grab some ice cream on the way up to Raven’s Point, pop the trunk, sit in the back, and just...watch the world go by for a little while.
(A la this amazing fanfiction which is *chef kiss*....I have read it....five times since lockdown? I’m okay.)
--Ian dislikes online classes, but Barley always counters with "Still better than shilling out $800 for textbook PDFs."
--It's also more entertaining than it should be to watch Barley rant about the scandal of charging full price for textbook PDFs.
--"I am a history major!! I should feel the ink and parchment beneath my fingers as strongly as the satyr playwrights of Greece did when they first penned the script! TAVISH OF ATHENS DID NOT WRITE 'OF SERPENTS AND STARS' TO CRASH WHEN TOO MANY PEOPLE ARE USING THE WI-FI."
--Blazey gets sooo many cuddles and has learned to squish under doors.
--Colt was unofficially kicked off the wi-fi during the most frequent overlapping Lightfoot class hours, so he plays with Blazey. As a result, Colt is now one of her most favorite people ever.
--The first time Ian got Blazey, Colt whistled for her, and she scrambled off Ian's lap and up to Colt, Ian pretended to be scandalized by her treachery.
--Blazey is also the best hot-water bottle for a cold night. Colt's friendship has absolutely nothing to do with the fact centaurs sleep in, essentially, nice stables.
--You think you need a haircut? Poor Colt’s tail got long enough to tangle with his back legs when he galloped five weeks in. While centaurs can wash and brush their tails easily, they are not quite flexible enough to cut them.
--The Manticore's Tavern is tragically understaffed for courtyard delivery; Barley pulls a shift now and again between his usual job and classes and the Manticore is unbelievably grateful.
--This boy can move orders like all-get-out, double the tip jar in three hours, and still spend most of his time on his phone or messing with Quest of Yore cards.
--Laurel and Barley pick up groceries and essentials weekly, but are notorious for forgetting that One Thing. Or two. Or five. Or vaguely remembering the list and happily checking out with a cart full of fruit juice and snack packs.
--The last few days before the next shopping trip inevitably become slapdash cooking competitions between two or three people at a time (or, if it’s really unsuccessful, pizza nights).
--Everything Laurel makes has a smiley face on it. Waffles? Sunny-side up. PB&J? Happiest meal of the day. Salmon piccata? Smiley face, comes with a note reminding you to do your best and show someone your friendly smile if she’s working on autopilot.
--Ian always attempts something elaborate, and it ends up as A) a decent four-star meal or B) fire.
--Barley’s entries always slap. You give him an egg, a pack of bacon, and half a box of spaghetti and he comes back with pasta carbonara. Nobody knows how he does it (there’s a rumor going around that he just throws it away and MordorDashes something when nobody is looking), but he does work with what he have and has a few sneaky cooking tricks.
--Every one of Colt’s entries is some form of queso griffin skillet, and there’s always way too much of it. He has a near-perfect record of wins by unanimous vote and Colt’s entries are lowkey anticipated all week.
--Near-perfect means he lost, once.....to the time Laurel and Barley teamed up to make a better queso griffin skillet.
--There wasn’t even any actual queso in the house, good lord.
--The boys stay quiet and inside for one (1) day and it's because they were building a LEGO castle.
--At some point Laurel changes into pyjama pants in the middle of the day. Ian asks her about it ("Mom, shouldn't you, uh, be wearing pants?") and she counters with "Why?"
--Ian leaves and comes back in pyjama pants.
--Colt has some kind of squad groupchat which he checks for a minute once in a blue moon. (There are few calls to go on, so it’s mostly, “My girlfriend’s kids liberated my hair clips and are serving a three-minute house arrest.” or “The eldest just put peanut butter on scrambled eggs, now that’s a crime.”)
--Long story short, someone offers a giant roll of butcher paper and even as he trots over to pick it up, Colt knows it’s the worst decision he’s ever made.
--It is.
--Ian and Barley get super excited when they first see it and spend days drawing or playing games on it in table-length sheets.
--Laurel gets tired of scooting past them every time she tosses something in the overflowing recycling, so she tapes them up like wallpaper with gold stars and compliments .
--Ian gets embarrassed when he first sees them, but Barley takes five seconds to pull a turnaround power move and start making a big deal about his stickers, especially in comparison to Ian’s.
--”Dearest mother! As you see here, Iandore has earned a green star for his magnificent drawing of a hippogriff--”
--”That was a hippogriff? I thought it was Mr. Nakamura, from the dry-cleaner’s. He loved it on FaeBook, even has it printed out and framed in his apartment!”
--”Ian has earned a green star for his magnificent drawing of Mr. Nakamura, but my, very similar picture of a pegasus has been acknowledged with but an orange star. Orange is the colour of defeat.”
--Absolutely, they would do faerie lights and bunnies in windows.
--Barley unsuccessfully proposes that fencing, ultimate frisbee, and archery are socially distanced sports (until you hit someone, that is), but he and Ian are kings of geocaching.
--Ian is content to read or draw by himself, but Barley is always a fairly affectionate person. He got a minor cold at some point and had a six-foot yardstick propped up in his bedroom just to lightly smack Barley with when he got too close.
--Ian reads the entirety of that one really long fantasy series (yes, that one, with the dragons) and soon becomes more or less illiterate.
--Too many conversations have opened walking in on Barley throwing sticky hands at the walls (yes, like Alex Hirsch) and asking, “Can I have some?”
--Colt is about six feet long and is infamous for asking in full Cop Manner whether people who won’t wear masks or want to see managers are “having a problem.”
--Laurel manages just to keep her sanity mostly because she is always down for a pillow fight.

Acting Your Age (Part 4)
Tumblr media
Summary: When Jensen returns from a business trip, he and the reader have a few more dates and a few sleepovers as their relationship continues to develop...
Masterlist
Pairing: Jensen x reader
Word Count: 7,000ish
Warnings: language, age gap, implied smut
____
You hummed when you plopped down in your bed that night after your shower, smiling to yourself.
You’d spent the afternoon in the pool and had some barbecue for dinner, Jensen like a puppy dog and always smiling whenever you saw him. He had some paperwork to catch up on and eventually headed home though, letting you get in some playtime with the kids.
“Someone looks happy,” said Gen, stepping into your room that night.
“Mhm,” you said, staring up at the ceiling.
“Thinking about lover boy?” she teased as she walked in and lay on the other side of your bed.
“Sorta. I don’t know. I had fun today,” you said, closing your eyes. “I have a voicemail from my ex.”
“Really? What’s that about?” she asked.
“He saw my picture online. Told me not only is he younger than Jensen, by like two years, but, he also has way more money and is way more attractive. He wants me to go on a trip to Greece with him so we can ‘reconnect’ on his yacht,” you said. “He was a stock broker.”
“Oh boy. Someone realizes what they lost out on,” she said.
“When we were alone, he was great. But he was embarrassed of me, even when we went out to dinner. He was a lot more outgoing than Jensen but Jensen is the guy bragging that his girlfriend broke the woman’s record on hole six this morning at lunch to the waiter. He’s a quieter guy but he’s not embarrassed of me, you know?”
“Honey, Jensen is head over heels. He’s also not a douchebag so I don’t think you have to worry about that. I think he’s more concerned about trying to make sure you’re able to keep some of your privacy. He’s no big movie star but he gets attention,” she said.
“I don’t care,” you said.
“Good. You’re gonna need that. Trust me,” she said. “The internet can be a cruel place.”
“He’s not gonna be like, showing me off at an award show or anything. He doesn’t need to worry about that crap,” you said.
“Boys are weird,” she said. You laughed and nodded, looking over at her.
“What’s your honest opinion on me and Jensen? You’re my sister in law. You’ve always been the one keeping an eye out for me. What do you really think?” you asked.
“I think you should be with someone that respects you, is your best friend and that you can see spending the rest of your life with. That’s it,” she said.
“Gen. Come on. If I brought home a guy like Jensen but you didn’t know him,” you said.
“Exactly what I said. It’s not rocket science,” she said. “Jensen’s good. You’re under his skin. Enjoy it.”
“I am,” you said. “You wouldn’t happen to know any architects or interior designers looking to hire in town, do you?”
“I may be able to hook you up. A friend of ours just bought a house and they’re looking to redecorate. I know you’re very good,” she said.
“Independent contractor? I’ve never done that before,” you said.
“Maybe you could while you look for a place. I’m sure it’s not a ton of hours,” she said.
“Maybe. Taking Jensen out to dinner last night was a tad expensive. It was great but my funds are dwindling,” you said.
“He didn’t even go Dutch?” she asked as she sat up.
“He tried to pay but I caught the waiter and gave him my card instead. Jensen was a little mad over that I think,” you said. “But I want to be able to take him out on dates too, you know?”
“Let him pay next time, he’s got the money,” she laughed. “Take him hiking around Austin sometime and then do food trucks. Super cheap date and it’s fun.”
“Sometime,” you said, closing your eyes again.
“Get some sleep. You’re exhausted from playing all day,” she said as she sat up, pulling your covers out from under you.
“Alright, mom,” you said, turning into your pillows with a laugh. “Night Gen.”
“Night,” she said, closing your door part way.
“She’s asleep already?” you heard Jared whisper outside the door.
“What?” you called, not bothering to open your eyes.
“I was wondering if you guys wanted some ice cream and to watch a movie but-“
“There’s always time for ice cream,” you said as you sat up with a smile.
You woke up on the couch the next morning, Odette poking your cheek until you opened your eyes.
“Hi Aunt Y/N!” she said loudly, your body letting out a large groan as you heard Jared laugh from the kitchen. “Daddy made pancakes.”
“Awesome,” you said, her little hand peeling your eyes open. “Jared.”
“That’s not nice, munchkin,” he said. “Why don’t you and your brothers get your Aunt some orange juice.”
“I got it,” you said, standing up wearily and taking a plate when it was shoved in your hands. You took a seat at the table between the boys, digging in with a hum.
“Dad, are Aunt Y/N and Uncle Jensen gonna get married?” asked Tom. You nearly choked on the food in your mouth, Jared whacking your back as he went past.
“They’ve been dating a whopping five days. Let’s hold off on the wedding bells,” he said and setting down some orange juice. “You okay?”
“Yeah, uh, I am not getting married anytime soon,” you said.
“I think you should,” said Tom. “Before you’re too old.”
“How old do you think I am?” you asked.
“I don’t know,” he shrugged.
“How old is dad?” asked Gen as she cut into her food.
“37!” said Shep.
“Yup. Y/N is about ten and a half years younger so she’s…” she trailed off.
“Two...something,” he said.
“Twenty six,” you said.
“Daddy, why you so old?” asked Odette.
“Mom’s older than me!” he said.
“I live with five children,” she sighed.
“I’m like a child half time,” you said, Gen giving you a smile. “So what are you guys up to today?”
“School,” said the boys.
“Swimmies!” said Odette.
“Sounds fun,” you said. “Mom and dad gonna swim with you?”
“Mommy. Daddy’s playing at Uncle ‘ensen house,” she said.
“I’m gonna help him film his audition tape,” said Jared. “Your unemployed ass is welcome to join.”
“I’m actually going to take a me day, maybe talk to those friends of yours with the new house,” you said.
“Nice,” he said. “I’m running to the grocery store after so write down what you want on the list.”
“Sure thing,” you said, taking another bite of food when the doorbell rang.
“I wonder who that could be,” he said with a smile, nodding for you to get it. You stood and walked to the door, knowing they must have expected someone if they’d left the gate open. You tried to fix your bedhead as you opened it, giggling as you saw the ticket on the ground with a sticky note attached to it.
Something unexpected popped up at the brewery, potential opportunity so I will unfortunately be flying out of town this afternoon. I’ll be gone until Sunday night but there’s a concert downtown if you’re interested. Text me whatever you decide. I’ll meet you there, kiddo.
“He’s adorable,” you said, laughing as you grabbed the ticket and note, walking back inside and setting it on the counter. “Most guys would just text.”
“He’s old,” said Jared. “Fashioned.”
“He’s sweet,” you said. “And dorky.”
“Are you blushing?” he teased. You shook your head as you sat down.
“Your face is all red Aunt Y/N,” said Tom.
“Eat your breakfast kid,” you said, ruffling his hair with a smile.
Sunday Night
You felt a tap on your shoulder, spinning around to find a smiling Jensen behind you.
“Hey, kiddo,” he chuckled.
“Hey! How’d it go?” you asked, giving him a hug, getting a peck on the lips quickly from him.
“Eh,” he shrugged. “It’s a good opportunity but I don’t have the manpower for it, namely me. I’d probably have to give up acting for good and that’s not something I want.”
“Well that’s too bad. Can’t you hire someone to help?” you asked.
“See,” he said, grabbing your hand as you headed into where the outdoor concert was going to be playing soon. “There’s this farmhouse on the land the brewery is on. It’s a few hundred feet away. It’s a gorgeous building. A bit run down but the bones are good. It was always sort of this side idea to make that into something. Restaurant. Bed and breakfast. Fancy tasting room. Something cool. I settled with the bed and breakfast since I thought that’s kind of a little of the restaurant and there could be a tasting room too or something. But I don’t think I can run two businesses and then act on top of it, you know?”
“Do you want to do it?” you asked.
“Yes. The brewery is pretty self-sufficient now but there was so much aggravation getting it set up and trying to work at the same time. I don’t want to go through all that again,” he said.
“Don’t you have more free time now?” you asked.
“It was just a really sucky time in my life I’d rather not go through again,” he said.
“Well I think if you really want it, you should do it,” you said. “Free manual labor, right here.”
“My last girlfriend broke up with me because of that whole incident so I’m not playing with that fire,” he said, smirking at you.
“Well now you totally got to do it,” you said. “I’ll help if I can. I’m an independent interior designer now so I make my own schedule.”
“Really? That’s awesome. Being your own boss is the best,” he said.
“True. Kind of scary though,” you said. “We’ll see how it goes. But you should go for it.”
“I’ll think about it,” he said, wandering the two of you over towards a beer tent, ordering two.
“Well the internet thinks I’m a slut over one innocent picture so if I can handle that, I can handle a little overworked Jensen,” you said. He stared at you, taking the beers and handing you one before you took a sip. “Yeah, I looked. Fuck ‘em.”
“You really shouldn’t get in the habit of doing that. It’s a nasty rabbit hole to go down,” he said.
“I found it amusing,” you said, grabbing hold of his hand again. “Plus I needed to. So you fix up that farmhouse and don’t worry about this, alright? I like spending time with you but I don’t need constant attention. I’m not Jared after all.”
He chuckled and nodded, swaying your hands as you walked.
“I hope you like rock music,” he said. “Please say you like rock music or else this is going to be a very long night.”
“I’m like, totally only into Top 40,” you said, giving him your best bitchface.
“Something tells me that’s not the truth,” he said with a smile. “What about country?”
“Eh, some country. Depends on how much I’ve had to drink honestly,” you said. “I like most music.”
“Me too,” he said. “I’ve never heard these guys before. I figured it beat dinner in a restaurant again.”
“It’s not that late. Did you not want to grab a bite after this?” you asked.
“Oh, I do. But something...easy,” he said. “Sound good?”
“Sounds perfect.”
“Wow,” you said, carrying your fast food in one hand as you followed Jensen into his house a few hours later. “Wow.”
“It’s not that nice,” he said, showing you where to put your shoes. You walked into the kitchen and set the bag down on the counter, Jensen going to the fridge and pulling out a few beers, some of his brewery’s brand from the looks of it. He set his bag down on the counter opposite you and sat up on it, letting his feet dangle off the edge while you started to pull out food.
“You got to show me around your house after we eat. It’s so...interesting,” you said, glancing at the ceiling above you. “Nice beam work.”
“I bet you tell that to all the boys,” he said, earning a laugh from you. “It’s alright. I let some designer do everything once the house was finished being remodeled.”
“It’s nice. Not exactly what I would have thought your style would be. There’s definitely some unique things,” you said.
“I was had a girlfriend when the house was being updated. She picked out some of those things,” he said. “The girly stuff.”
“In the designer world we like to say feminine,” you said, taking a bite of your taco. “Same chick that didn’t like you working so much?”
“Different one. We were gonna live together which is why she was helping. That didn’t work out,” he said. “Obviously.”
“It’s still a very lovely house,” you said.
“Could I hire you? To re do some of that stuff?” he asked.
“Sure. We could work out some kind of deal I’m sure,” you said. He nodded and started to eat, swaying his feet again like a kid would.
“You probably think I move fast in a relationship huh,” he said.
“No. All you said was you almost lived with a girl. I’ve lived with a guy before. You’re a whole lot older, I sort of expect you’d have had more relationships,” you said.
“I think I thought us working on this house together would fix the stuff that was wrong, you know? I don’t know how I ever thought that was a good idea,” he said.
“Going through something hard teaches you more about a person than everything being easy breezy,” you said.
“Kinda like you and your brother?” he asked.
“You didn’t have to drive down there to fix that last week you know,” you said.
“I’ll take the not easy breezy stuff too,” he said, giving you a smile.
“That wasn’t us though. That was something…” you said.
“If I’ve learned anything from my married friends, it’s that a relationship is picking a partner that doesn’t just do cute stuff. They have your back when shit happens. It’s just finding someone that you want to go through the highs and lows with. Never found anyone yet who wants to stick around for a low is all,” he said.
“You got someone to take care of you when that happens?” you asked.
“Yeah. Sorry, this going into a much deeper conversation than I intended,” he said.
“So?” you said. “The lows don’t scare me.”
“Not sure much does, kiddo,” he chuckled.
“I’m serious,” you said.
“Well that girl was the last time I dated. A few years ago now,” he said.
“I should set her up with my ex,” you said.
“The British douche?” he asked.
“He called me last week. More than once. I politely told him where to shove it,” you said.
“That’s my girl,” he said. “Why’s he talking to you again anyways?”
“Oh, I think he’s jealous of you. I told him maybe he should try being a bit more respectful for like my new boyfriend if he wants a girl to stick around,” you said.
“Maybe I should set this guy with her,” he chuckled. “She only ever wanted money after a certain point anyways.”
“Peter was an idiot that wasn’t comfortable with our age difference is all,” you said.
“I thought he made you feel stupid though,” he said.
“Oh yeah. Never mind, throw him to the wolves,” you said.
“Remind me to never break up with you,” he said as he ate.
“I’m not letting you go so easily,” you said.
“Good,” he said with a laugh. “Not to mention your willingness to eat fast food at one in the morning makes you far more attractive than anyone I’ve ever dated.”
“I’m a cheap date,” you smiled.
“You know last week, you paid for dinner at the restaurant. That was a pretty pricey meal,” he said.
“I can afford it,” you said. “You’re just gonna be getting happy meals for the next six months but I can afford it.”
“Let me pay next time,” he said.
“Alright,” you said. “But I get to pay the time after that.”
“Y/N.”
“Jensen.”
“Well since we’re not gonna be able to agree on this, let’s settle it with a bet,” he said.
“What kind of bet,” you asked.
“Arm wrestling,” he said.
“That’s so not fair,” you said.
“I mean, I know you’re probably going to win but…” he said, biting his bottom lip. “Oh, that’s adorable. Your little cheeks are red but you’re kinda grumpy too.”
“Such a boy,” you groaned. “Fine. You win. But...nice dinners are not the norm, agreed?”
“Deal,” he said. “So I can totally get like, the cheeseburger happy meal though right?”
“Wow,” you said, shaking your head as he laughed. “Yeah, we can go all out on that.”
“Sweet,” he said, taking another bite when the lights flickered. You looked overhead, watching it happen a few more times before they shut off and the house was dark. You heard a hum and the refrigerator kicked back on. “At least the generator works. Only keeps the kitchen and bedroom going though.”
“It’s not even storming,” you said, a loud boom of thunder overhead. You finished the rest of your food and cleaned up, Jensen looking out the front windows at the pouring rain.
“I’m sure it’ll clear up in a minute,” he said. You grabbed your phone and checked the radar, the storm slow moving and another one right behind it.
“It’s like solid red for a few good hours,” you said, a big crack of lightning appearing, Jensen stepping back from the windows. He turned to you in the dimly lit kitchen, a question on his face. “I can sleep on the couch.”
“I can sleep in the guest room, you take my bed. The power works in there,” he said.
“We could share,” you said. “Just sleep.”
“Yeah,” he said. “As long as you’re comfortable with that.”
“Yeah,” you said. He nodded and you followed him down a short hall, Jensen pointing to a dark space.
“Bathroom. Other side is the closet,” he said, stepping through the open door into a large master bedroom. “Comfy bed.”
“Pretty vaulted ceiling,” you said.
“Always looking at the ceiling,” he chuckled. He ducked into his closet, returning after a moment in just a t shirt and his boxer briefs. You kept your gaze up, spotting the shirt and boxers in his arms. “I don’t know if you wanted something to sleep in.”
“Thanks,” you said, stepping past him and going into his closet. “Oh my God. Can I have your closet?”
“It’s a closet,” he laughed.
“It’s huge! There’s so much space you’re not using,” you said, spotting all the clothes in piles on the floor. “Ah, so he’s not Mr. Perfect. Didn’t your mother ever teach you to hang up your clothes?”
“Oh shut up,” he laughed from the bedroom. You changed out of your jeans and shirt, taking off your bra after a moment. You carried your clothes out to the room and set them down on the dresser, Jensen sitting on the edge of the bed. He stared for a moment and ducked his eyes away. “Clothes fit?”
“Mhm,” you said, walking over to the other side of the bed. You sat down and threw back the covers, flinching when there was a loud boom.
“You alright?” he asked.
“Don’t really like storms at night,” you said. “Normally not a problem cause I’m sleeping.”
“S’okay,” he said. You nodded and lay down, flinching again when the storm was louder. He got under the covers and you felt him move closer, turning on his side and putting an arm over your waist. You turned your head towards him, swallowing hard when the house shook. He smiled and nudged a little closer. “You’re alright, kiddo.”
“Forgot about stupid Texas storms,” you said, squeezing your eyes shut as the storm got louder and louder.
“Come here,” he said, turning you towards him. You didn’t mean to but you grabbed onto the front of his shirt, Jensen moving his arm to wrap around your back. “Hey, it’s okay.”
“Sorry,” you said, moving away when he turned you back.
“Really. It’s okay,” he said. You gave him a small nod before you sighed and closed your eyes, resting your head on his chest. “You’re okay, honey. I promise.”
You blinked open your eyes wearily, catching Jensen rolling over in bed, his arms flailing about before one landed on you. He immediately pulled you into his chest, giving you a big morning cuddle and jamming his face into your back. You giggled when he started to breath softly again, Jensen stirring this time, whole body tensing before his arms were off of you.
“Good morning,” you said, looking back over your shoulder.
“Morning,” he said, rolling away some. You moved to where he’d been, spreading out and smiling at him. “Oh, you don’t get the whole bed young lady.”
“Comfy bed,” you said, turning on your side, tucking your arms under the covers.
“You look so pretty,” he said quietly. You leaned up and kissed the tip of his nose.
“You’re a cuddler,” you said. He groaned and turned away, your hands shooting out to grab him and move him back. “Oh no. Jensen Ackles is a cuddler and you are not denying it.”
“You wouldn’t dare tell,” he said.
“What do I get in return for my silence?” you asked. He smirked and wrapped his arms around you. “I will accept being paid off in cuddles.”
“Yes, yes you will,” he said.
“I like cuddles too,” you said. He smiled and you moved your leg, a strange noise coming from him as he shifted away. “Sorry.”
“S’okay. No one ever tells you morning wood keeps happening no matter how old you are,” he said as he fixed himself.
“Here I thought it was me,” you said.
“That part of me certainly likes you very much,” he said, quickly clearing his throat. “Sorry. I make it sound like…”
“Maybe tonight,” you said with a smile. “If you’re in the mood.”
“I think I could be,” he said, pushing your hair behind your ear. “We’ll see. For now though, all I want to do is make you some breakfast. Thankfully the power is back on.”
“How about you cook and I’ll set the places?” you asked.
“Deal,” he said, moving out of the bed. You followed after him, Jensen chuckling when he looked at you in daylight for the first time. “You look like a grumpy toddler.”
“Joke’s on you, Ackles. Too big shirts are my go to pajamas,” you said.
“I like it,” he said, starting to pad around the kitchen as you discovered where he kept the plates. Less than ten minutes later you had a plate of scrambled eggs in front of you, Jensen sitting two seats down at the counter, back against the pillar in the kitchen, legs spread out over the middle stool.
“Someone’s comfortable,” you said.
“Just enjoying the view,” he said, scooping some eggs into his mouth. “So you’re not a fan of storms, huh?”
You blushed and stared at your plate, eating quietly for a few moments.
“I don’t like spiders. Dolls are super creepy to me too,” he said.
“Yeah, not a fan of storms, at night,” you said, poking at your food.
“Well next time there’s one and I’m not around, give me a call,” he said. You glanced over, Jensen taking a bite off his fork.
“You don’t think it’s childish?”
“No. I wish maybe you weren’t so scared but it’s not childish,” he said.
“When I was in college, I rushed for a sorority. The last hazing thing was pledges had to stay in this old abandoned house off campus. It ended up storming that night. They were going to prank us but we didn’t realize, some guy was squatting there. He was pretty...terrifying. We thought it was part of a prank but it wasn’t and he got violent super quick. Safe to say, I didn’t join,” you said.
“Fuck. I thought guys were bad. You were alright?” he asked.
“Yeah,” you said, Jensen staring at you. “I got a little beat up. I was okay. Far more damage has been done wrestling with my brothers.”
“Still. I get why you don’t like stormy nights,” he said.
“It’s silly,” you said.
“You know what I say to Jared when he says that? Tough shit. It’s bothering you so it’s not silly or stupid so let’s try and take care of it,” he said.
“Yeah but how do I take care of something like that?” you asked.
“Make it into something good. I used to be so afraid of public speaking and now I tell myself it’s okay and it works. It took awhile but it does,” he said. “So next time there’s a storm, turn it into something good.”
“I suppose,” you said, stretching in your seat.
“So you were almost a sorority girl,” he said with a smirk.
“Shut up, pretty boy,” you laughed.
“I am pretty, aren’t I?” he teased.
“You have dried drool on your cheek,” you said. “Hot stuff.”
“You’re one to talk,” he giggled.
“You’re saying this is not the epitome of hotness? Messy hair and a tired face?” you laughed.
“We have very different definitions of how you look,” he said, biting his bottom lip.
“I think I’m going to get dressed,” you said, sliding off your seat. “You know you aren’t getting this shirt back, right?”
“I figured as much,” he chuckled. You headed into his bedroom, changing in his bathroom and tucking his shirt under your arm. After grabbing your purse, he walked you to his door, carrying a cup of coffee now. “I’ll see you tonight, kiddo.”
“Yes you will,” you said, giving him a short kiss. “Hey, since you made me breakfast, can I cook you dinner tonight?”
“Dinner? It has been a long time since someone has made me dinner,” he said.
“What do you want?” you asked.
“I’m easy going,” he said.
“You like meat?” you asked.
“I love it,” he said.
“I’ll pick something out today. Drop by my place say seven?”
“Sure thing, kiddo.”
You had just finished pouring the pasta in the pot when the doorbell rang that night. You looked down, cursing yourself for still being in a pair of leggings and your hair up in a messy bun. You jogged to the front door, opening it with a smile.
“Hi,” said Jensen, plucking a flower out from behind his back.
“Well thank you,” you said, Jensen stepping inside as you looked up after him.
“I don’t know what it is. Thought it looked pretty is all,” he said. “Reminded me of someone.”
“Yeah, yeah,” you said, Jensen following you back to the kitchen. “Apparently tomorrow is some teacher workshop day at school so Jared and Gen packed up the kids and shipped them off to our parents house so they could have a night alone.”
“Nice. Sounds like we got the place to ourselves then,” he said with a smile.
“Yes, we do,” you said. “You mind watching the stove while I put on something presentable?”
“Alright. I mean, I’m not in a tux over here or anything,” he said. “I am a very big fan of leggings.”
“I bet you are,” you said, pausing before you decided to leave on what you were wearing. “So what’s your poison?”
“Wine?” he asked.
“Preference?” you asked.
“I’m good with anything,” he said. You walked around to the far side of the kitchen and picked up the bottle you’d gotten earlier, popping out the cork and setting it near a pair of glasses on the counter.
“Anything I can help with?” he asked, sliding into the kitchen.
“No, no. I’m making you dinner. You just sit there and look pretty,” you teased.
“Can do,” he said, grabbing the bottle and pouring you each a glass. “So are you a cook?”
“Uh, not really so if this goes horribly, I do have the number of a restaurant,” you said.
“You could honestly make me some kraft mac and cheese and I’d be happy,” he said. “Like I said earlier, it’s been a long time since someone cooked for me that wasn’t my parents.”
“Well you deserve to be taken care of too, hm?” you said, giving him a smile as you took a sip of your wine.
“Yeah. Yeah, I could do with some of that I guess,” he said.
“How about after dinner, I give you the world’s best foot massage,” you said.
“I’d say I could get used to this.”
“Dinner was so good,” said Jensen again as you finished cleaning up. “You’re a way better chef than you give yourself credit for.”
“I’m a better baker than chef,” you said.
“I bet you’re an amazing baker then,” he said. “You gotta let me taste test next time you make something. Quality control.”
“I’ll be sure to enlist your services,” you said, heading into the family room, Jensen taking a seat on the couch. “Alright. You kick back your feet and I will be back in just a second.”
You dashed upstairs as he peeled off his socks, returning with a bottle of cream and a small towel.
“Oh. I see I’m dealing with a professional here,” he teased.
“Just get comfy, Ackles,” you said, Jensen adjusting a pillow behind his back as he turned sideways. You rested his feet in your lap on the towel, squirting some cream on your palms before rubbing them together. You started at the top of the arch of his foot, Jensen immediately closing his eyes.
“Fuck. That feels awesome,” he said, melting back into the couch. “How’d you get so good at this?”
“Dated a masseuse once. Ditched the guy but kept the incredible massage skills,” you said, rubbing your thumb into the skin. “For a guy, your feet are pretty clean to be honest.”
“Don’t laugh but my sister gave me some of those lotion socks for Christmas one year cause my feet always got crackly. I fucking love those things,” he said.
“Boys are allowed to be pampered too,” you said, moving to the other foot, Jensen letting out a large sigh.
“Remind me to yell at Jared for not introducing us sooner,” he laughed.
“To be fair, probably better that we waited,” you said. “It let me figure out what I like.”
“What do you like?” he asked, smiling lazily from the other end of the couch.
“You.”
“Cute,” he said. “I could say the same about you.”
“Alright then cutie,” you said, sliding his feet off your lap. “Once I wash this stuff off, we can watch a movie.”
You were only gone a few minutes, Jensen already flipping through the TV when you returned. You let him pick, some cheesy 80’s horror movie from the looks of it, and you sat down on the other end of the couch. He hummed and moved his feet to the coffee table, giving you a quick glance. You slid over next to him, tucking your legs under you, his arm going to the back of the couch.
“I don’t even get the yawn and stretch?” you laughed.
“I ain’t tired,” he said, resting his arm over your shoulders. You turned your head, his gaze on you.
“What are you thinking about?” you asked. His eyes moved around your face, his hand on your shoulders going to the back of your head as he leaned in.
You met him halfway, the kiss already more heated and playful than you’d ever received from him. His free hand went to the small of your back, pulling you into his lap, a tiny smile on his face before you took the chance to invade his mouth. You went back and forth, both of you trying to control it until you needed air and broke off, his hot breath hitting your face.
You took the chance and pushed him back on the couch until you were leaning over him, Jensen going all kinds of gooey.
“You like that, don’t you,” you said, brushing your lips over his ear.
“Normally no,” he said with a quick laugh.
“Gonna make an exception for me,” you said.
“You are something el-” he said, groaning when you cut him off with another kiss. You used one hand to hold yourself up, the other shooting to his hair, running through the strands and messing the short spiky strands up.
He bit at your bottom lip, the two of you going back and forth again until you fell into a harsh but smooth rhythm, his hand rubbing circles against the small patch of skin on your lower back. He pressed his fingertips into the flesh, a shiver running through you.
“That’s what I thought,” he murmured, nipping at your jaw while you caught your breath. He moved his lips, finding that one little spot that turned you into jelly and he sucked, a keening whine escaping you. He pulled his mouth away, staring up at you with dark green eyes. You blushed, a dark smirk spreading over his lips. He moved his mouth again, finding the spot and sucking. Hard.
“Jensen,” you whimpered, already knowing you were going to be sporting a hickey. You only seemed to encourage him, your head dropping as he pulled back with a chuckle you felt through his chest.
“That’s so fucking hot,” he said. You raised your head, staring him down.
“You’re turn,” you said, ducking your head down before he could even blink. A minute later he had the beginnings of a mark on his neck appearing, Jensen bit his bottom lip hard, making the thing even more swollen and red than it was. “Was that a moan I heard?”
“Groan,” he said, narrowing his eyes, grabbing your head and kissing you. His hands started to move though and you felt them on your hips, your breath catching in your throat when he started to tickle your thigh. “Tell me.”
“Tell you what,” you said, resting your forehead against his, your noses jammed against each other.
“You want me to do this, right?” he asked.
“Touch me? Hell yeah, Ackles,” you said.
“You on anything?” he asked.
“Yeah,” you said. “I’m good.”
“Good,” he said, sliding a hand in front of you, a finger tracing over the top of your leggings against your stomach. He peeled back the elastic and slid his warm hand underneath, staring up at you as he moved oh so slowly. “You have no idea how hot you are, do you.”
“Jensen,” you said, kissing him as he reached your underwear, his fingers curling under it. You sucked in a breath, arching into his hand.
Just as the front door opened in perfect view of where you were on the couch.
“What the fuck!” you heard Jared shout as you immediately shot up, Jensen yanking his hand away as you went to the other end of the couch. He walked in the room, staring at the both of you. “What the fuck!”
“Movie,” you said, Jensen nodding, not making eye contact.
“Were you just...in my family room!” he said. “No sex in the family room!”
“It wasn’t…” you said, squeezing your eyes shut. “You said you’d be gone until the morning.”
“I left my phone here and-”
“He has a hickey,” said Jensen, pointing at Jared’s neck, turning to you. “He can’t blame us for doing exactly what he was.”
“You better not be doing exactly what I was for how long you’ve known her,” he said.
“So sex is cool if it’s in my room?” you asked. Jared groaned. “Well you said the family room is off limits.”
“You got a house. Go have sex over there,” said Jared.
“But we’re here,” you said.
“What are you two? Rabbits?” said Jared, throwing his hands up. “I don’t care. Let’s never talk about this again.”
“Agreed,” you said.
“Oh and Ackles,” he said, pointing at Jensen. “Please never let me see you with your hand down my sister’s pants again.”
“Roger that,” he said, Jared sighing as he went upstairs, returning after a moment and heading outside. “Surprised I’m still alive if I’m being honest.”
“He understands,” you said, crawling back over to him.
“What are you doing?” he asked as you resumed your position from before.
“He’s not coming back,” you said. “I think you were about to do something really fun.”
“I was, wasn’t I,” he said, a mischievous look back on his face. “A whole lot of fun.”
“Morning,” said Jensen when you rolled over in your bed, the sun just starting to fill the room. “Still a bit early.”
“We went to bed early,” you teased, placing your hand on his bare chest.
“We most certainly did not,” he said.
“Can I ask a question? I thought, and in my experience, as guys get older, it takes them a bit longer to recover downstairs,” you said.
“Got a problem with it?” he smirked.
“With you being hornier than a teenage boy? No, no problem at all,” you said.
“It wasn’t too fast for you?” he asked.
“I think you took it pretty slow at some points,” you said, scooting closer. “But no, not for me. Do you-”
“No, not at all. Not that I was expecting anything...I had fun,” he said with a sleepy smile. “I feel like I have a lot of fun with you.”
“I know I do,” you said. He hummed and lay his arm over your back, his fingers dipping into the curve of your spine.
“S’always the quiet ones,” he teased.
“You’re one to talk,” you said, getting a soft lazy kiss from him. “Any big plans for the day?”
“Catch up on a few brewery things. My agent called yesterday. Sounds like they got that part I wanted narrowed down to me and another guy,” he said.
“That’s awesome! I hope you get it,” you said.
“And after I tag up with him, I’m going to call that investor back. Give the bed and breakfast the go ahead,” he said. You gave him a big smile and a kiss, Jensen’s cheeks pink for a moment.
“That’s great. I’m sure it’ll be a big success,” you said.
“I’m okay with little success,” he chuckled. “I’m just happy I’m actually doing it.”
“Well I will be your first guest,” you said.
“If I play my cards right, that may end up being very true,” he said, brushing his nose against yours. “You look sleepy.”
“It’s early,” you hummed, nuzzling into his chest.
“How about we go back to sleep for a little while and then, we can have some coffee on the back patio?” he asked.
“I like the way you think, babe.”

The better question: Do you ever drive below the speed limit?
24. What terrifies you?
Many things. The biggest thing, lately, is that I’m not doing enough to get this world back on track and that I should be doing more. The time for discussion, negotiation, and bargaining for basic human rights is over. I want to smash windows, tear down institutions, and torch mansions.
25. Look to your left what do you see?
Watermelon head, just where he always is.
26. What chore do you hate?
I hate the sound of the vacuum cleaner. Absolutely hate it.
27. What do you think of when you hear an Australian accent?
Immediately of Steve Irwin. I watched a shit ton of animal planet as a child.
28. What is your favorite soda?
I can’t drink soda very often because it makes be a bit ill - but I love coke.
29. Do you go into a fast food place or just hit the drive through?
I also can’t have fast food often because it me very ill. So when I do stop - it’s usually to satisfy my ever present french fry craving and I feel silly going in and ordering one thing.
30. Who was the last person you talked to?
The chinese food delivery guy or watermelon head if he counts.
31. Favorite cut of beef?
The other thing that makes me sick! I rarely eat beef, even when I cook it for my husband. The only thing I usually can’t resist is a mean sloppy joe or taco - so that would be ground beef done extra lean which probably doesn’t count.
32. Last song you listened to?
This is Me - Kesha from The Greatest Showman soundtrack
33. Last book you read?
Also fanfiction. I have no spoons for new fiction at this time. I’m making my way through some nonfiction books slowly - “Michael and Natasha” by Rosemary and Donald Crawford is my current choice.
34. Favorite day of the week?
Fridays?
35. Can you say the alphabet backwards?
Possibly?
36. How do you like your coffee?
Flavored creamer if possible - if not just cream. I never seem to get the sugar ratio right on my own.
37. Favorite pair of shoes?
My utterly impractical, goes with one outfit, red high heeled mary jane’s. God I love those shoes.
38. At what time do you usually go to bed?
Between 10 and 11p - I take medicine that knocks me out pretty quick at night.
39. At what time do you normally get up?
Between 5 and 7a? I don’t know when I turned into my father - but I’m up with the fucking sun no matter what.
40. What do you prefer - sunrises or sunsets?
Sunrises - especially over the ocean.
41. How many blankets are on your bed?
On the bed? Two. Beside my side of the bed? Four more. Plus the dog has a blanket. Don’t judge me.
42. Describe your kitchen plates?
Vintage find - white with yellow and orange daffodils.
43. Do you have a favorite alcoholic beverage?
Wine to get started, but I almost always end up switching to whiskey if I’m out.
44. Do you play cards?
I learned to play poker very young and I’m surprisingly good at it.
45. What color is your car?
It’s called Seafoam, which is a pretty pearlescent green <-- same?! @lostinfantasies38 do you drive a Subaru too?
46. Can you change a tire?
YES. My father, when he was losing his eyesight and I was sixteen, wanted me to know how to change my own oil and my own tires cause “he wouldn’t be able to see to do it.” Before that makes you too sad - he 100% still sat in the driveway and listened to me do these things while offering “advice.” Bonus: I was one of the only people of either gender I knew in college who could do these things.
Do I actually do them any longer? fuck no. I don’t want to get dirty and I got myself a husband.
47. What is your favorite province?
I’ve only ever been to Toronto, so whatever province that’s in.
48. Favorite job you ever had?
I don’t know if I have a favorite? I’ve gotten to travel a lot in my current job, and I’ve done a lot of presentations and met a lot of people I wouldn’t have otherwise, plus it’s less hazardous to my mental health. So. Grantwriter/Researcher it is.
49. How did you get your biggest scar?
In November 2019 (which seems like forever ago but I know it wasn’t) I was rear-ended by an 18 wheeler on the highway. It was a nasty crash and I still can’t quite drive on the highway. I was actually nearly completely unscathed despite rolling my car and it being totaled. I emerged with a concussion and two cuts - one on the back of my left hand which is small. I had another shallow cut which is mostly hidden under my hair, but I can feel the scar. It does creep out under my hair onto my forehead about a half-inch.
50. What did you do today that made someone happy?
On my morning walk with watermelon head, we stopped outside our neighbors house to wave through the window so their kiddos could see puppers. Judging from their faces - they were pretty happy (but who wouldn’t be to be greeted with watermelon head?)

lamp-bright rind Food Masterlist
Hello! I am Daggs! I write things and stuff!
Currently, I write a fic over on Ao3 called lamp-bright rind where everything is soft and I work out my feelings on an unsuspecting Billy Hargrove, because that’s just what’s happening while I’m stuck at home.
I thought it might be fun (and because I reeeeeaaallllllyy need something else to take up time, I’m going bonkers here) to like make a master list of all the recipe/food references in the fic? Because it’s a lot. My roommates can’t get out to get ingredients to feed me and I’m going through withdrawal. And, also, I really fucking love food. I can’t cook for shit, but I can eat like a mother fucker.
So with each chapter I’m gonna update this with where I got the recipes and link to them if they’re online or if my roommates let me give out their recipes that I have stolen (with permission, of course!). I’ll put a link at the top of each chapter, too. So. Here we go!
Chapter 1
This is a recipe from one of my roommates--henceforth known as Roommate Senior--and it is the most comfort food ass shit, y’all. I DO NOT have permission to give out the entire recipe for the sauce, only the ingredients that are included in the chapter. There are a few bits that I had to leave out, but not including them won’t actually ruin the dish, or so she says. Senior also does something else to her trofie because she’s just Like That. But, homemade trofie is my favourite pasta, y’all.
Here is a recipe from Italian Food Forever if you wanna give it a go. If you don’t feel like making your own pasta, because that shit takes time, The Chef recommends getting gnocchi. Something soft and starchy, basically. She also recommends: Delallo Roasted Red Peppers in Olive Oil. It’s a pretty common brand, apparently.
Chapter 2
1. This is my grandma’s Chicken Noodle Soup. So this is what we always had at Christmas time because it makes A Whole Ass Lot. And looking back, I think I definitely underestimated the amount of water/broth needed. This is one of three (3) things I can actually, competently cook IRL. Which explains why I work out as much as I do, because Reames noodles, y’all.
2. Jasmine Tea Panna Cotta from Madeline Effect. Never had it but, 1) Shiiiit is it pretty; 2) I love jasmine tea; and, 3) I fucking love plums, y’all.
3. Popcorn Ice Cream with Caramelized Popcorn and Black Pepper from page 263-5 of the NOPI cookbook by Yotam Ottolenghi and Ramael Scully. My other roommate--henceforth known as Roommate Junior--made this once and I just. I don’t even like popcorn, and I still think about that. The recipe itself isn’t online anywhere that I can find in full, but here is an Eat You Books link for the basic ingredients.
4. Raspberry Tart. This is a lesson in bookmarks. I SWEAR TO GOD, this came from Felicity Spector’s instagram, probably very far back. You’re gonna see her name pop up a lot on this list because I just love her instagram. So anyway. I have a very vivid memory of seeing a small little raspberry tart with pillowy clouds of whipped lemon verbena ganache. I know I saw it SOMEWHERE, but now I cannot find it. Learn from me. Bookmark your shit when you find it.
Chapter 3
A lot of the food I’m gonna mention is in reference to my favourite restaurant. It’s called Bourbon & Baker and my aunt takes me every time I visit. I don’t even care how long the drive there is, I’m there for the foooooooood (and her puppy, but that’s not the point). Funnily enough, the used to have a sister location in Chicago! Anyway, this is kind of what I’m basing Billy & Robin’s restaurant off of.
Currently, because of the You Know What, the menu on their site is pared down for To Go orders only, but I’m gonna use an old one I still have on my phone to give you an idea of the kind of food they serve, but also because I’m going through withdrawal.
1. Brussel sprouts. This, for the reason mentioned in the fic (blight), was removed from their menu before the last time I went, so this is gonna be mostly from memory: Roasted brussel sprouts (they were chopped p small and roasted til crispy), with toasted pecans, with a maple, brown sugar and balsamic vinegar glaze, and topped with shaved parm. Christ I miss those. Senior does a pretty good remix, but I think about those all the time.
2. Lamb Belly Tacos. So fucking goooooood. For size reference, it’s two street-style sized tacos. From the menu: Poblano chimichurri, crispy lamb belly, flour tortillas, Cojita cheese, pickled red onion, sunflower shoots, lime-mint tzatziki, cashew crumble.
3. Duck Tacos. This is a go-to for me. Like, if they take it off the menu, I will riot. From the menu: Citrus chile marinade, chargrilled, flour tortillas, Manchego cheese, spicy green-onion hoisin sauce, arugula, heirloom tomato relish.
4. Smoked Salmon. Here’s the trick. Get the salmon, keep 1-2 of the toasted breadsticks and use them to sop up the last of the Duck Taco juice. That’s the money. From the menu: Dill cream cheese, fried avocado, caper-red onion relish, lemon balsamic, arugula, toasted baguette.
5. The Waffle Thing. Okay. This is another thing they took off the menu before my last visit and I nearly DID riot. It sounds like there wasn’t nearly enough demand for it, which is a shame because it’s hecking incredible. From memory: a stack of orange zest waffles (1/4 wedges, so it was just one small/medium waffle divided and stacked) with sweet mascarpone, crispy prosciutto, maple syrup and a gooey ball of dates and pistachios.
6. “shrimp--” This was gonna be Shrimp & Grits. From the menu: Andouille grits, spinach collard greens, gulf chrimp, Cajun BBQ cashew cream.
ALSO on the menu this chapter, GRILLED CHEESES.
1. THE SOUP. I based it on this Smoky Tomato Soup from two peas & their pod.
2. Red Rock Cheddar & Gruyere. This is kinda based on the grilled cheese from B&B, except I just really like sourdough more than brioche. But that’s me. Red Rock Cheddar is a very specific kind of cheddar. It’s SUPER orange and also a blue cheese? It’s great. Creamy cheddar-like taste, but a hint of blue. Here’s a little thing about it if you’re curious.
3. Pumpernickel, ham, cheese. It’s basically this recipe from Finlandia Cheese, only Junior made it with pumpernickel once and it fucked me up. So good.
4. Onion, Mayo, Gouda. This is a Senior recipe. The closest IRL I can find is this from redbook mag. She, because she is just Like That, does something extra to her onions, but she confirmed that this recipe would be close enough to taste p good. Just switch in gouda for the cheese and put mayo INSIDE the sammich. I saw that some people put in on the outside instead of butter, and y’all need jesus. *shudder*
5. Toad in the hole. A midwest staple, but here is a recipe from Taste of Home if your family isn’t into dying early from a heart attack. In my head, Billy cooked the egg over hard, or at least NOT gooey, but that’s just for the mess. Obv it would be over easy/sunny in the restaurant. Obvs.
And there we have it! All the food from the first three chapters. Join me next time for more Daggs Loves Food and Really Misses Fresh Veggies, JFC.
Now, how should I tag this.

Okay for the prompt request, how about Buck plans a picnic with Eddie and Chris and they're once again mistaken for a couple? Bonus point if it leads to love confession and a first kiss (and no pressure if you don't feel like writing this, okay?)
Thank you so much for the prompt, and sorry for the delay! Hope you like it ^^
I Don’t Want Them to be Wrong
(read on ao3)
Buck couldn’t ask for a better day. The sun was shining without burning everything to a crisp, the park was busy without being crowded, they’d managed to find a perfect spot under a couple of trees - close enough to the playground that Chris could easily make it without help, but out of the way enough that they weren’t in any danger of being trampled on by excited kids or harried parents - and...well, he was out and about with his two favorite people.
The day honestly couldn’t get much better.
Eddie had given him a bit of a weird look when he’d suggested the picnic about a week ago. But Buck was smart, and had suggested it in front of Chris, who was immediately on board and helped him convince Eddie that it was a great idea without much prompting. He was pretty sure it was physically impossible for Eddie to say no to Chris over fun, easy stuff.
No one ever said he had to play fair when it came to Eddie.
And now, here they were, and even Eddie had to admit this was a good idea when he saw Chris light up, saw the spot Buck had picked out, and saw the food Buck had put together and just…
Yeah, it was a good idea, and Buck was a little proud of himself, honestly.
They’d needed a day out. Eddie’d been complaining about the never ending stream of take out he’d been having to get lately, and how, with it being summer, Carla and his family were having to watch Chris more, and while they were all great and wonderful, there was only so much they could do with an excited eight year old who didn’t have school and homework as a distraction.
Buck hadn’t thought of a picnic originally - it wasn’t generally his go-to, which tended more towards beer, pizza and video games, because, honestly? He didn’t need a whole lot, if he was spending the day with Eddie and Chris. Hell, he’d probably be happy with just hanging out on their couch for a couple hours, he was that far into it.
But Eddie had just looked so...upset, about the fact that Chris was bored out of his mind, and Eddie...hadn’t really been able to do anything to help relieve that boredom lately.
He might have also gone to Hen for suggestions.
Hen had given him a weird look - she’d been giving him a lot of those lately actually - before just shaking her head and suggesting one of the parks her and Karen took Denny to when the summer blues hit.
So, yeah. Picnic.
Eddie was currently stretched out beside him on the blanket, leaning back on his arms and watching Chris play, a pair of sunglasses perched on his nose, and a little dab of sunscreen there too, from where he’d been trying to cover Chris and Chris had been having none of it.
Buck kind of wants to tell him it’s there. Kind of wants to see how long it’ll take him to notice.
The sandwiches Buck had made are already long gone, a couple snacks still laid out here and there for when Chris decides he wants to come back.
They’re in absolutely no rush, and Buck is just enjoying the moment. He’s stretched out on his back, hands behind his head, enjoying the heat and the sounds of laughing kids and parents, and, honestly, if he wasn’t feeling so bright and full, he’d probably doze off, just absolutely content with life.
“...Thanks. For this.” Eddie murmurs a little while later, and Buck blinks slightly as his brain comes back online. Maybe he did doze off there for a moment. Whoops.
“Huh? Oh, of course man.” He grins up at Eddie, cheeky and bright. “You looked absolutely miserable last week. Had to do something.”
And Eddie looks at him, sunglasses making it impossible to actually decipher his expression. “No, you really didn’t.” And Buck doesn’t really get that, feels himself frowning, “But I’m glad you did.” And Eddie smiles down at him - that small, surprised one that he so rarely shows that makes Buck’s heart skip a beat or two every time he manages to tease it out.
And then he’s looking back towards the playground, and Buck gets a moment to just. Breathe. In through his nose, out through his mouth.
Calm down.
It’s something he has to tell himself a lot these days.
Calm down, when Eddie invites him to stay the night cause they’ve been watching movies and it’s now midnight and there’s no point in him going home at that hour. Calm down, when Eddie tells him Chris misses him and he should come over soon. Calm down, when Eddie accepts invitations to his place for just the two of them for a night. Calm down, when Eddie asks if he can pick up Chris from school, or from his abuela’s because he’s picking up the end of a shift and knows Buck will without hesitation.
Calm down, when Eddie smiles at him, laughs with him.
Calm the fuck down, when Eddie does...anything.
It doesn’t ever really work, but he says it a lot. Likes to think it keeps him from doing something stupid.
“Daddy!” Chris calls, causing Buck to glance over, even if Eddie’s already on it.
“Yeah, buddy?” Eddie calls back, pushing himself up to actually sit.
“Can we get ice cream?” Chris asks, clearly already set to start heading for the ice cream cart that Buck had clocked when they’d gotten there.
Eddie frowns slightly, exaggeratedly, pretending to think on it for a moment.
Chris just huffs and turns to look at Buck instead, “Buck, can we get ice cream?” which causes Eddie to bust out laughing, and Buck just grins and shakes his head.
“Not how that works buddy. Good try though.” Buck says, even as Eddie mutters something about kids too smart for their own good.
Chris pouts a bit, but Eddie’s already throwing his hands up in defeat, “Go over and tell the nice lady what you want. We’ll be right there.” And Chris is off as fast as his little legs can carry him.
“Come on, let’s get over there before he orders more than he can carry…” Eddie says, trying for grumpy and put out, but Buck can see the smile, so he just shoves Eddie when he tries to get up, laughing when Eddie sprawls out with a squawk and a curse too low for any close by parents to be offended.
“You good there, Diaz?” Buck asks, smile as innocent as he can make it. Eddie’s not buying it for a second, if the look he shoots him is anything to go by, and Buck guesses he’s got about two seconds before Eddie tackles him in retaliation, so he’s up on his feet and gone in one. The shout that follows him as Eddie goes sprawling again just proves him right.
He laughs to himself, slowing down a good couple of feet from the cart, where Chris is waiting patiently, a frozen orange pop already in hand. “Looks good buddy, why don’t you go help your dad up while I pay?”
Chris beams at him and bolts back the way he came. Buck looks back long enough to see Eddie scoop up an excitedly shrieking Chris a moment later, both of them laughing and spinning around, enough that Buck’s vaguely worried about Chris losing his popsicle.
“He’s adorable. And incredibly polite. You two are doing a good job with him.” The woman behind the cart says and Buck blinks, glancing back over, what he’s sure is a dumb grin still in place.
“What? Oh, uh-” This isn’t the first someone’s mistaken them for...for more than what they are. Isn’t the first time Buck’s heart has flipped over itself at the very idea. “Thank you. He’s a good kid.” And she smiles kindly, and he orders two chocolate pops for him and Eddie and pays for all three with a thank you before heading back to their blanket, where Eddie’s losing at trying to keep Chris clean.
And, maybe, just maybe, it’s a little selfish, that he doesn’t correct them, every time it comes up. But the very idea of being able to call Chris his, of being able to call Eddie his...going along with it for one moment, just a moment where he can smile and be loud and proud about what he supposedly has…
It’s never hurt anyone, and it takes less time than explaining that no, they’re not together, no, Chris isn’t his, and yes, it hurts every single time he has to come back down to reality.
So.
Yeah.
He drops back down on the blanket, offering over the popsicle to Eddie, who just looks at him, utterly defeated, while Chris grins at him, smile orange and sticky and so, so bright.
“Give up Eddie. We’ll soak ‘em with the hose when we get home.” And Buck can feel his face heating up as his jaw snaps shut. He didn’t mean to say that, sneaking a look at Eddie to see if he noticed.
Thankfully it doesn’t look like it, as Eddie just sighs and takes the popsicle that’s being offered, giving up on getting a napkin to Chris’ face. “He needs a bath anyway…”
Chris finishes his popsicle in record time after that, muttering that Eddie and Buck eat too slow before asking if he can go play again. Eddie makes one last attempt at wiping his face off, but Chris is too hyper now to really sit still for it, though Buck will give it to him that he tries. For a second.
“Fine, fine, ya little sugar demon. Go burn off that energy.” Eddie says, shooing a now laughing Chris off towards the playground.
Buck tosses his popsicle stick into their small bag of trash, laying back to rest his head on his hands again, watching Chris with a smile as Eddie goes quiet. God, he just wants this day to last forever.
“Why do you never correct them?” Eddie asks after a long couple of minutes. He’s still sitting crosslegged next to Buck, and in theory, he’s watching the playground, but who the hell knew with those sunglasses that Buck was starting to hate. His popsicle is mostly forgotten in his hand, melting onto a napkin in front of him while his arms rest on his knees.
Buck doesn’t get what he’s asking at first, frowning and pushing himself up to his hands, “Correct them?”
“When people assume Chris is ours.” Eddie says, still not really looking over, though Buck has a sneaking suspicion he’s watching Buck out of the corners of his eyes.
But Buck’s not really concerned with that right now.
No, no, he’s mainly concerned with the fact that it seems his stomach has suddenly relocated to his knees, and he’s pretty sure that’s not where it’s supposed to be.
“Uh…” Okay, think. Calm down and think. “...It’s faster to just agree?” Buck tries, hating how his voice goes a little shaky.
And there’s a pause. A long one that has the hair on the back of Buck’s neck standing on edge.
“...Oh.” Is all Eddie says though, his shoulders slumping slightly. And Buck can feel his gaze going back to the playground, even if he can’t actually see it.
...What the ever loving hell was he supposed to do with that?
He sits up completely then, moving to sit crosslegged in a mirror of Eddie, just eyeing him for a long moment. Eddie’s not...avoiding his look, but he’s definitely pretending like he doesn’t notice, if the sudden tension he can see in his shoulders is anything to go by.
Buck’s stomach is back where it’s supposed to be, but now his heart is beating double time as the very possibility starts worming its way into his mind. Was Eddie...disappointed?
Calm down. There had to be another explanation.
Calm down. But what could it be?
Calm down before you do something stu- “And…” Buck begins, slowly, testing the words in his mind over and over again before he actually lets them out, “I really like the idea.” He hesitates, before adding, softer, “I don’t want them to be wrong.”
And Buck’s like. Ninety percent certain Eddie’s stopped breathing. Which, you know, is only fair, since Buck’s holding his breath now too, waiting for Eddie to respond.
It’s quiet between them for long enough for Buck to go a little light headed before Eddie sets down what’s left of the popsicle. He reaches up to pull off his sunglasses, finally looking at Buck.
Really looking. Intense eyes bore into Buck for another long moment and it’s all Buck can do not to look away. Look away from this, whatever this turns out to be.
And then Eddie’s face breaks into a smile - one Buck’s never seen, but one that immediately takes his breath away, it’s so damn bright. Well, looks like he has a new favorite smile. Or, you know, he could just stick to loving all of them. That works too.
“I really like the idea too.” Eddie says, almost shyly, and Buck just...he needs to do something stupid. Again.
He leans in to press a kiss to Eddie’s lips, grins when he feels Eddie lean into it immediately, only for them to have to break apart way too soon because they’re both grinning too hard for it to work. Both of their smiles are a little stupid as they laugh softly,
“Maybe try that again?” Eddie asks, and Buck has to actually school his face so he doesn’t laugh again before he’s leaning back in to steal an actual kiss, all sweet intensity and soft breath, and it damn near takes his breath away when Eddie shifts just enough to slot them together just right.
Yeah, Buck couldn’t ask for a better day.
