Your name is Tim Drake and you are nine years old.
Today, tomorrow, and soon, you're going to save Robin.
----
Tim stares at his reflection on the sink tap. It trembles, along with the plane, as he contemplates his situation.
His face is rounder, now, with unfamiliar baby-fat rounding out the sharp lines he'd come to expect. Even with the subpar reflection, Tim can tell that his dark eyebags are all but gone, replaced with youthful skin.
Magic. He's being quite literal, seeing as he's been tossed into the body of his younger self at the hands of a crazed magician.
He could find a way back... or he could create a completely different timeline by fixing everything that went wrong. It's not like he has anything to go back to, anyways. That crazed magician was actually competent and killed everyone he ever cared about. Tim barely got away with his life. He could go back to save that shell of a world- surrounded by people whose minds were broken beyond magical and medical repair- or stay here, fix his own personal troubles and cut off the magician before he could start with his world domination bullshit.
Well, Tim already has an idea of what he wants. So he begins a list, after having oriented himself.
Save Robin
There's no point trying to convince Bruce that he knows where Jason's being held. So, Tim finds himself on a plane to Ethiopia a day before Jason's meant to die. This was long before Barbara even thought of being Oracle, and the tech is ancient in his hands. In short order, nine year old Tim has a trust fund with millions in it, all siphoned from billionaires like Lex Luthor and his own parents.
Tim toddles back to his seat, after washing his hands because he still can't shake the extra bit of paranoia that came with a missing spleen. Oh. Tim blinks guilelessly at his seat neighbor, smiling like Timothy Drake, Angel of a Son as he reels from the realization that he still has his spleen.
Tim adds another box to his list:
Keep Ra's away from my spleen, creepy bastard.
What else...? Ah, the League of Assassins.
Damian
Tim pauses. Holy crap. Damian's only six right now. Tim moves Damian's box upwards in urgency. Tim might have a mildly antagonistic relationship with his younger brother back then, but he wants baby pictures of his siblings, dammit. He's gonna put that photography expertise to good use if it's the last thing he does.
Watch over Z, Owens, Pru
'They're alive!' His mind screams. Cold rationality slaps the sentimentality down with a quick 'But they won't be if I fail.'
His mind wanders to Dick Grayson. He scowls as something pops up in the back of his head.
Catalina Flores
Contact Nightwing- in space
He's gotta call Dick back from that Teen Titans mission, Jason's gonna need all of the support he's going to get.
Find Cass
Train Steph
Save Duke's family from Venom
Tim taps at that last point. He'll save them. But that might mean Duke might never join their family.
But he'll be happy and Tim... will deal with it. He'll be the only one mourning, anyways. To end on a lighter note, he adds something that he should have done ages ago.
Give Tam a raise.
Tim sighs as he gets out of the airport, the hired escort he found and vetted, delivering him to a predetermined hotel. They think his parents are already inside. He laughs and does not say anything to make them think otherwise. He has so many things to do, Tim laments as he settles down to track the Joker's movements. Here. That's where Jason's being held. Being tortured.
He can, however, knock two things off his list in one go. Tim picks up the burner phone he acquired. He doesn't have time, or else he would have done this sooner and saved them all the trouble.
[RR: Are you in Ethiopia yet?]
[Deathstroke: Payment confirmed. In Ethiopia.]
[RR: Third building by the docks.]
An hour.
[Deathstroke: Confirmed. Target spotted.]
Ten minutes.
[Deathstroke: Target eliminated. Bringing Robin to Safehouse.]
Twenty minutes.
[Deathstroke: Basic first aid applied. Leaving.]
[RR: Secondary payment sent. Confirm?]
[Deathstroke: Confirmed. Pleasure doing business with you.]
Tim sprawls on the king bed. He sighs a breath of relief. He'd check on Jason in person, if he weren't paranoid about leaving traces that would get back to him. Tim's pretty sure that Deathstroke's going to get hunted down in the near future, regardless, so he made sure to add a huge tip on top of the extra fees for burning one of Deathstroke's safe houses and the emergency first aid. He taps into the rudimentary camera Deathstroke had given him the access codes to, to stare at Jason's rising and falling chest. On a further table, the Joker's head laid in a preservation box.
He bypasses all of the security on the Teen Titan's tech to send Dick a message.
[Robin has been retrieved from the Joker. Contact Batman for details.]
Then, he sends Bruce the location of the safe house. Tim spends the rest of the day staring at Jason and watching his father in another timeline break as he huddles close to the broken body of Tim's Robin.
Timothy Drake destroys the burner phone.

Saw a post where someone wasn't sure if Tim being good at computers was a fanon thing or not and friend I am happy to inform you that he's been a computer/tech guy from some of his earliest appearances in the comics.
Tumblr media
Detective Comics (Vol. 1) #620 (Rite of Passage part 4) - immersed in the ~web~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robin II: The Joker's Wild #3 - tabletop roleplaying games and spending hours in the basement on the computer - not beating the geek allegations on these fronts, Timmy
Tumblr media
Detective Comics (Vol. 1) #676 - Dick was more into traditional detective work and tended to outsource the computer stuff in these days
Tumblr media
Batman (Vol. 1) #514 (Prodigal part 10) - hackin' through all the garbage and garble
Tumblr media
Robin (1993) #33 - Robin sneaking in and connecting Oracle with the baddies' mainframe so she can do her thing and steal all their data >:)
Tumblr media
Nightwing (1996) #6 - "no you're really talented and well suited to be Robin." "no, you." "no, YOU!"
Tim is definitely not as good as Babs/Oracle, but he's certainly her back-up for computer work in the 90's batfam. They're tech buddies and Robin!Tim is her little assistant sometimes, it's super cute:
Tumblr media
Birds of Prey (1999) #19 - happy to play with big sister's fancy high-powered toys
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Legends of the Dark Knight (1989) #125 - real cute kid
And Dick will hand off computer jobs to his little brother when he doesn't want to bother Babs 😂 (that outsourcing I mentioned):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nightwing (1996) #68 - examine them pixel by pixel, eh? welp, sounds like a job only you can do, Timbo, you got this buddy, byyyyeeeee
And then when he'd grown up and been doing this for years, he leveled up accordingly, and did stuff like use his access to the League of Assassins computers to overload the generators in every base he could find, etc. etc.
Tumblr media
Red Robin (2009) #8 - yeah that was pretty dumb of you Ra's :)
So yeah, it was a bit of a specialty of Tim's, in large part because he was introduced just at the turn into the 90's, when personal computers were really starting to take off and become widespread. (Robins gotta be cutting edge and all)
Of course, by no means does it follow that the other Bats suck at computers (there is no 'smart one' they are all incredibly smart and capable). This is especially true as reboots and the sliding timescale of comics have moved the DC characters into modern times, where computers run the world and everyone grows up with one in their pocket. The baseline familiarity and expertise that everyone can be expected to have is just much, much higher these days.
It gets exaggerated in fanon as all character traits do, but computer guy Tim is definitely not something just made up out of whole cloth :)b

Common character archetypes in literature
Character archetypes are universal patterns of behavior, personality traits, and motivations that are commonly found in literature, mythology, and other forms of storytelling. They are often used as a shorthand to help readers quickly understand and relate to a character's role and purpose in the story.
Here are some common character archetypes:
The Hero: The hero is a brave and noble character who goes on a quest or journey to achieve a goal or overcome a challenge. Examples of heroes include Odysseus in Homer's "The Odyssey" and Frodo in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings."
The Villain: The villain is an evil character who opposes the hero and tries to prevent them from achieving their goal. Examples of villains include Darth Vader in "Star Wars" and Iago in Shakespeare's "Othello."
The Mentor: The mentor is a knowledgeable and seasoned figure who directs and encourages the protagonist throughout their adventure. Examples of mentors include Gandalf in "The Lord of the Rings" and Obi-Wan Kenobi in "Star Wars."
The Trickster: The trickster is a mischievous character who uses their wit and cunning to achieve their goals. Examples of tricksters include Loki in Norse mythology and Hermes in Greek mythology.

The Wise Old Man/ Woman: The wise old man or woman is commonly portrayed as having immense wisdom and expertise, and often acts as a mentor or guide to the protagonist. Examples of wise old men and women include Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series and the Oracle in Greek mythology. Such archetypes have been frequently employed in literature over time to communicate universal themes and concepts about human existence.
The Innocent: The innocent is a pure and uncorrupted character who often serves as a symbol of hope and goodness. Examples of innocents include Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz" and Boo Radley in "To Kill a Mockingbird."

PICK A CARD Career Reading (October 2024)
Disclaimer: Only take what resonates and leave the rest behind. I am only posting this reading on profiles I’ve listed on my Linktree (https://linktr.ee/carinasibila) – all other profiles that might post it are fake. Decks used in this reading: Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot Blue Bird Lenormand* Enchanted Spell Oracle** PILE 1 III of Swords, Bear*, Strength** Back of the deck: Knight of Wands This month, you’ll be presented with an opportunity at work – however, this opportunity will also seem to bring the possibility of conflict and strife with it. The cards encourage you to gather your strength and be prepared to act boldly and courageously: take this opportunity regardless of the misgivings you might feel and show people at work what you are made of. PILE 2 The Sun, Tower*, Contemplation** Back of the deck: IX of Cups If you’re currently experiencing difficulties at work and suffering from low self-esteem as a result, the cards ask you to shift your focus towards your past: do a retrospective of your work achievements, especially those that highlight your expertise in your field. By doing so, you’ll be able to look past your current struggles and regain confidence in your abilities. PILE 3 Queen of Cups, Key*, Wisdom** Back of the deck: Justice This month, the cards are asking you to rethink how you deal with people at work. They show that you’re doing yourself a disservice by accommodating people at work too much, as they tend to take advantage of your kindness. Thus, try to balance this – generally commendable – need to be nice by drawing lines in the sand to make yourself less vulnerable to exploitation.

WORLD OF HEROES R - The Bat Pack
A small collective of vigilantes who patrol the streets of Gotham and minimize the impact of criminal empires and metahuman happenstances. Originally just a single individual, they've since expanded into a small-scale league of crazies that, despite everything, might be what the city needs.
FEATURED MEMBERS
Batman - the original knight of Gotham and still the most well-known. His expertise and cunning has made him the most feared individual in Gotham, though only by the cruel and distasteful.
Robin - A long-time associate of the Batman, known for being flashy and witty but still not to be underestimated.
Batgirl - Nobody's quite sure if the Batgirl has merely changed costumes and strategies or has been taken up by new individuals in the time since she first appeared, but most people still know when you cross the Batgirl's path, you'd better make sure you're not up to anything.
Signal - The only known Metahuman in the Bat Pack, gifted with heightened supersenses, and usually acts as the group's sole day-walking member. Some could argue that he's just another one of Batman's sidekicks, but it seems the other members of the Bat Pack are accepting of him.
Red Hood - Who the Red Hood was before he showed up in Gotham is... honestly still a mystery. Of the Bat Pack, he's certainly the most brutal force to go up against, though it seems that he's been toning it down a bit since the early days.
UNFEATURED MEMBERS
Oracle - A mysterious individual who oversees the entire city, watching for any sign of trouble and alerting the Bat Pack to its troubles. If some rumors are to be believed, this Oracle has ties to the Batgirl identity.
NOT MEMBERS
Catwoman - a cat burglar who, due to a variety of circumstances, happens to be the closest thing in Gotham that Batman has to a true rival.

Oracle Bones
Oracle Bones (also known as Dragon's Bones) were the shoulder blades of oxen or plastrons of turtles (the flat underside of the turtle's shell) which were used in the Shang Dynasty of China (c. 1600-1046 BCE) for divination. The symbols carved on the bones eventually became words and a recognizable Chinese script developed from this practice.
A fortune-teller would carve (later, paint) symbols on the bones of the ox or the turtle shell, apply a hot poker or fire until the bone or shell cracked, and then interpret the direction of the crack through their drawing to predict the future. Most of the oracle bones discovered come from the Shang Dynasty but some are from the early Zhou Dynasty (1046-226 BCE). The practice of telling the future through oracle bones is known as scapulimancy (telling the future through the scapula, the shoulder bone, of an animal), plastromancy (using a turtle's plastron) or pyromancy (the use of fire). These methods all declined when the book known as the I-Ching (a fortune-telling manual which uses hexagrams and yarrow sticks) became more popular in the Zhou Dynasty.
Oracle bones continued to be used in later dynasties but not as regularly as during the Shang. These bones are important primary sources on the history of the Shang Dynasty and gave birth to Chinese script. Historian Harold M. Tanner writes, "oracle bones are the earliest written records of Chinese civilization. The inscriptions give us a highly selective picture of some of the concerns and events that were relevant to the Shang elite. The earliest of these records date to the reign of King Wu Ding in the late Shang (40)." Even though everyone was interested in what the future held, questions from the wealthier classes in China make up the majority of the inscriptions. This is probably because they could afford to consult the psychics more often than the poor.
Use of Oracle Bones
The desire to know the future has been a constant in human history and the people of China during the Shang Dynasty were no different along these lines than people today. Fortune-telling during the Shang Dynasty was considered an important resource in making decisions, and these 'psychics' were consulted by everyone from the farmer to the king. These fortune-tellers were thought to be in touch with the spirit world of the ancestors who lived with the gods and knew the future. These spirits would communicate with the psychics through the oracle bones. Each fortune-teller had his or her area of expertise (love, money, work, etc.) but could answer questions on any topic.
Fortune-tellers either got the bones and shells themselves (and prepared them) or bought them from a merchant who scraped and cleaned them. The bones/shells were then kept in the fortune-teller's shop. If someone wanted to know whether they should take their cattle to market, or go visit a friend on a certain date, they would visit a fortune-teller who could predict how well their plans would work out.
The person would ask the fortune-teller a question like "Should I bring my oxen to market next month?" and the fortune-teller would carve the symbols for the person, oxen, the next month, and maybe a later month on the turtle shell or bone. A hole would be drilled in the object and a hot poker would be applied, or the shell/bone placed near fire until it cracked. If the crack went one way it would mean the person should go to market with the animals, and if it went another way they should wait.
People relied on these fortune-tellers to help them make decisions about all kinds of choices in their lives from matchmaking to having children, to travel and financial decisions, and even to making war. People consulted fortune-tellers back then the same way they check their horoscopes in modern newspapers or the internet today to see what the day holds in store. There were symbols carved on the bones which meant 'good day' and 'bad day', and a person could consult a fortune-teller in the morning to see which kind of day they had in front of them. The oracle bones found thus far date from c. 1250-1046 BCE and give all kinds of important information about the Shang Dynasty.

DP x DC Pilot Danny Prompt Pt 4,5? Something?
Alfred held a hand to his side, clutching the throbbing burn as if it was just a small wound. He could hear their voices on the other end of the comm from where it had fallen over the other side of the table, sitting on the floor, too far away for him to reach. Curse old age.
He struggled to a seating position, careful to keep enough pressure on the wound. The bat computer beeped overhead in warning, as new stats from Bruces suit came through. He was taking hits, and not just a few, Bruce was never that careless.
Alfred cringed as he struggled over to the computer bench, bloody hand reaching for the mouse. He needed to get the Batplane up in the air. Emergency evacuation was his responsibility, and there were four very important people that needed his expertise.
He slumped into the chair, gritting his teeth at the pain that shot up his side, and the reality that he couldn’t pilot the plane, remotely or physically became even more apparent, and with Oracle offline…
Stumped, he reached for the next best thing, his personal phone. In moments, it was dialling.
Static crackled before a familiar voice replaced it. “Yo, this is Danny speaking”
“Greetings, Daniel” Alfred said as evenly as he could, “This is Alfred Pennyworth, I was wondering if it isn’t too late to cash in a favour?”

I was discussing this with a friend of mine and I’d be interested to know your take.
We’re both big comics nerds for the batfam, and we’ve come to the consensus that even with the out of pocket moments, arcs that don’t hold up well(fugitive comes to mind), and the slew of other post crisis issues—We think the best version of the batfam would be right before Damian was introduced.
I know how this makes me sound and I’m not sorry, Tim as robin was great and I loved him as the younger brother of the fam but also not bruce’s son let them be weird friends like before identity cri-
I’m getting off topic. I apologize.
Batfam feels very bloated modern day, and I genuinely preferred when Jason was a crime lord, Dick and Tim were close tightknit brothers. Babs was oracle and Cass was batgirl. I’d want Steph to be alive and not taking cass’s job but one thing at a time. (also tim and cass are lovely as siblings/friends)
What is your ideal batfamily composition, what do you have the most fun with?
And I hope you’re doing well!
Oh here’s a dangerous question.
My favourite period of Bat comics is probably, hmmm, 1996 to 2004. Not only are there some great writers doing work during that period, the family dynamics are interesting and complex because there's fun levels of tension between various members, but also there are almost equal numbers of male and female characters and the women are allowed to be messy and complex and flawed while still heroic. You've got Bruce, Dick, Tim, Barbara, Helena, and Jean-Paul, plus Cass from 1999 onwards, with assistance from Steph, Selina and Dinah to varying degrees.
What characters and dynamics do I find the most fun? Well, I like there to be tension in the Bat family. I like every person in the group to be linked in differently, with different relationships with other members, rather than being "Bruce and his kids". There's this concept I have of what is the 'core' of the Batfam in the period between 1995 and 2009: it's not Bruce, it's actually a trio, consisting of Dick, Tim and Barbara, all of whom who have very strong ties to each other, managing and balancing the rest of the family between them.
Dick manages the broader community ties, rather than the Gotham ones. Dick's the one who all the other families know and are most likely to approach for help; he's got the respect of the Titans but also of the Justice League. Dick is basically the public relations guy standing between the Bats and everyone else.
Tim is the glue of Gotham. Tim knows everyone in Gotham and has teamed up with them at some point and knows how to convince them to come and help out, even if they aren't on good terms with the rest of the Bats, and can force people who are normally opposed to work together. Tim's the reason all the Gotham vigilantes aren't six separate bitter blood feuds or a perpetual mafia war.
Barbara is the expertise. She's not only the coordinator and planner who ensures that everything runs smoothly, who has everyone's contact details and the ability to pull in the specific assistance needed, but she also maintains contacts that still see Dick as 'Bruce's kid' with the way most of the Justice League only are familiar with her as an adult hero. She's got the best JSA contacts via Dinah. She can stand up to Bruce and tell him to back down and pull his head in in a way the other two cannot. And she's the only one of the three who has a proper working relationship with Jean-Paul Valley.
The changes in the Batfamily dynamics by firstly removing Barbara from Gotham, and then adding Jason and especially Damian, forced the shape of the dynamics to centre themselves around "Bruce and his sons" and "everyone else", rather than being a spread network that converged on a trio.
My ideal Batfamily? It's Bruce, Dick, Barbara, Tim, Cass and Damian. While I think that Damian is part of a very clear change of direction in storytelling, I think there are worthwhile stories to tell about his dynamics with the others listed here, and on balance he allows for new directions of storytelling.
(Yes, there's an obvious name missing there. It's deliberate. I remain unconvinced that having Jason around as 'family' is a better use of his character than as a ghost haunting the narrative or, if he must be alive, as an extremely irritating villain)

In Mingyu’s car, the air was thick with tension. Y/N sat in the passenger seat, clutching the evidence tightly against her chest, her heart hammering in her chest. Minjeong, Ning, and Mingyu exchanged uneasy glances in the backseat, but none of them dared to speak. The gravity of what was about to happen weighed on all of them, especially Y/N, who was about to walk into a dangerous situation.
“We’re here,” Mingyu said quietly as the car rolled to a stop.
Y/N swallowed hard, her throat dry as she looked at the dimly lit location ahead. This was it.
“Be careful,” Minjeong warned from the back, her usual teasing gone, replaced by genuine concern. “We’ll be watching you the whole time,” she added, trying to inject some comfort into the situation. Her tech expertise had rigged the special glasses Y/N was wearing, a hidden camera feeding live footage to Ning’s Twitter account.
“You’ve got this,” Ning added, her voice soft but reassuring.
Y/N nodded, trying to steady her breathing. She stepped out of the car, feeling the weight of the moment pressing down on her. Her legs felt like lead, but she forced herself to move forward. As she walked closer to the meeting spot, she heard the soft ping of Ning’s phone — the live stream was starting, and the world was about to watch.
Ning’s voice came through the tiny earpiece. “Alright, stream’s up. People are joining. Be careful.”
The chat section exploded with messages as Y/N neared the building, the viewers getting a glimpse of Wonyoung waiting. She stood there, her arms crossed, a cold smirk playing on her lips.
“You’re late,” Wonyoung said, her voice dripping with amusement as Y/N approached. “Do you have what I asked for?”
Y/N didn’t waste time. “Where’s Jake?” she demanded, her voice steady despite the fear coursing through her.
Wonyoung chuckled darkly, her eyes gleaming with amusement. “Jake’s safe… for now. You’ll see him once you hand over the evidence. But no tricks, Y/N. I’m not in the mood for games.”
Y/N’s eyes narrowed. She could feel something was off. She scanned the area subtly, making sure the viewers watching Ning’s live stream would see the surroundings too. Every step felt heavier as she hesitated to hand over the evidence.
Sensing Y/N’s hesitation, Wonyoung’s expression darkened. She swiftly pulled out a gun from her coat, aiming it straight at Y/N’s head.
“Hand it over,” Wonyoung said coldly. “Now.”
Y/N’s hands shook as she reluctantly handed over the evidence. She watched helplessly as Wonyoung pulled out a lighter, flicked it, and set the documents on fire. The flames quickly consumed everything she had gathered.
“Now, where’s Jake?” Y/N asked again, her voice filled with frustration.
Wonyoung smiled wickedly. “Patience, Y/N.”
Y/N felt her control slipping, her frustration boiling over. She needed to get Wonyoung to confess, to get everything out in the open. So she shifted her tone, letting herself crumble. Tears welled in her eyes as she cried out, “Why? Why are you doing this, Wonyoung? I don’t understand!”
Wonyoung’s smirk faltered slightly. Something in Y/N’s desperation seemed to get to her. “You want to know why?” she hissed. “I did this because of him—my father. He ruined my life. Oracle Corp was his entire world, and I knew if I destroyed it, I’d destroy him.”
Y/N’s breath hitched as Wonyoung continued, her voice filled with venom.
“I found out Oracle hires Riverton High alumni. If I wanted to destroy Oracle, I had to destroy Riverton first. So, I decided to take down as many Riverton students as possible, ruin the school’s reputation, and bring it all crashing down. And with Wonwoo’s help, it became… addictive.”
The live chat erupted with shock and panic as Ning’s viewers grasped the full extent of Wonyoung’s twisted plan. Y/N, shaken but resolute, realized she had gotten Wonyoung to confess everything. She let out a shaky, almost hysterical laugh as the weight of what had just happened hit her.
But Wonyoung’s eyes narrowed as she noticed something off about Y/N’s glasses. She stepped forward, reaching for them, and froze when she saw the tiny blinking red light.
“You recorded me?” she shrieked, ripping the glasses from Y/N’s face. Her anger flared, and she raised the gun again, aiming it directly at Y/N’s head.
Before Wonyoung could pull the trigger, a loud noise echoed from behind. The door to the room burst open, and Jake stumbled out, his face battered and bruised but alive.
“Y/N, get down!” Jake yelled, his voice hoarse.
Wonyoung, startled, turned the gun towards Jake, ready to fire, but before she could pull the trigger, Wonwoo burst into the room, shouting. In the confusion, Jake managed to duck out of the way, and Wonyoung’s gun went off, the bullet hitting Wonwoo instead of Jake.
Wonwoo gasped, clutching his chest as blood poured from the wound. He collapsed to the ground, and Wonyoung let out a scream of rage.
Before she could react, the sound of screeching tires filled the air, and a car came crashing through the other door, slamming into Wonyoung and sending her flying across the room.
Everything happened so fast. The next thing Y/N knew, police sirens were blaring outside, and officers stormed the building. Wonwoo was pronounced dead at the scene, while Wonyoung, severely injured, was handcuffed and taken away.
Jake, bleeding and bruised but alive, was rushed into an ambulance. Y/N, her heart still racing, knelt beside him, tears streaming down her face. She had done it. They had survived. But nothing would ever be the same.

saints, oracle of rosekiller knowledge, I humbly request your expertise on a very important topic - what is their go to snack when they’re crossfaded
evan is one of those erewhon psychos whose only “snacks” are like thinly sliced celery & flavorless oat gruel because he only cares about Texture. however when he’s high he always purchases a cold prepackaged slice of grocery store carrot cake to eat on the couch……
i think barty would get his snacks at a eastern euro/balkan grocery because it’s what he grew up with. he’s faded as hell munching on Tortika & Napolitanke

The Price
It's a routine night for Red Hood. Stopping traffickers and rescuing victims and the like. But when he thinks he spots his Mom, things begin to spiral. He's never really known how to deal with his grief.
~~
Jason’s helmet has been damaged. Rain is seeping in. A cold, steady trail, that runs behind his left ear, and down under his armour. Steam still rises from the muzzle of his gun.
Home, Robin. You’ll catch a chill.
He steps over the groaning bodies. Doesn’t give them a second look as he unlocks the back of the eighteen-wheeler. Inside is as he expected. Dozens and dozens of women. Maybe even a hundred. Shivering and cold and hungry.
“It’s okay.” He says. And the voice modulator in his broken helmet garbles the sound. Drags out his words like they’re dying. “You’re okay.”
He begins to help the women down from the truck. He can hear the police sirens on their way, along with the ambulances and specialist support workers he told Oracle to call for. It’s not clear how long some of these women have been held and without the proper care, they’re vulnerable to being trafficked again almost immediately. Gotham in the rain is no kind of freedom.
As the emergency services arrive he steps back, retreats to the shadows to watch from a distance. He’s taken care of the easy part, the violence. Now the real work begins; the healing and coping and living. It’s not exactly his area of expertise.
His hair is soaked. Sticks uncomfortably to his scalp beneath his helmet. He suppresses a shudder. Thinks about how much he’d like a cigarette.
Coat on my little bear, you need to stay warm.
The women continue to emerge from the trailer. Tall and short and fat and thin, black and white and brown. Old and young and in between the two.
He’s fumbling in his pockets for a lighter when he sees her. She steps down from the truck with weak legs. Her hair limp, her skin almost translucent. “Mom?” The word escapes before he realises, drags out into a moan through the damaged modulator. He pulls the Hood from his head as he begins to move. “Mom?” He calls, more urgently now as the woman disappears into the throng of people. The word feels foreign in his mouth, awkward and unfamiliar. When was the last time he used it? “Mom!” He calls again, pushing through police and paramedics and women. So many women, where has she gone? What is she doing here, how is she even alive, where has she been this whole ti—
“Mom!” He towers over her, but he’s never felt so small, so desperate. “Mom, it’s me, it’s Ja—”
The woman turns to face him. She’s frail, it’s true. Blonde and weak and pale. But she’s not his mother. She looks up at him with blank eyes. Pupils dilated beyond sight with the drugs.
Jason recoils on instinct. “I’m— sorry.” He mumbles. “Sorry I thought you were—” His throat burns, his vision blurs and he turns. Runs. Tries to ignore the awful stone of confusion and hurt and shame in his chest. The way it presses on his lungs, makes it hard to breathe.
Don’t cry little bear. Mommy's here now.
Of course it wasn’t his Mom. It couldn’t be. She’s been dead for years. Over a decade. It could never have been her. He should have known...
~
He doesn’t remember making it home. Wakes up in his bed the next morning and can’t bring himself to figure out how. The grief is all consuming. A weight in his blood, forcing its way round his body, until he’s too heavy with sadness to move. He makes it to the couch, but not any further. Sinks into the cushions as the daylight moves around him; until the shadows grow into one and night falls again.
He doesn’t patrol that evening. Doesn’t respond to Oracle’s hails for support over in Chinatown either. Eventually he makes it back to his bed. Sleeps.
~
He wakes the next day angry. Annoyed with himself for being so self-pitying. His mom’s been dead for years, no need to get all pathetic about it. He forces himself into a cold shower, tries to shock the sadness away. Then heads into the night, adrenaline burning in his veins.
It’s raining again, and his punches land heavy, bone cracking beneath his fists and his boots and his hurt. He rages across the city, inserting himself into every fight he can find, desperate to exhaust himself out of his misery.
It doesn’t work. Not even when he squares up to Orphan and tries to taunt her into fighting him. She clicks her tongue, ignores his jeers about Bruce and killing and calling herself fucking Orphan when both her parents are alive.
“You are sad.” She says, monotone. And Jason can’t tell which way she means it. Has never been able to tell, frankly, and if she won’t fight him then he doesn’t care to. He drops from the roof with a hissed insult in her direction, and swings back into the fray.
Maybe he can get Bruce to fight him, he thinks. Except Batman isn’t out tonight. Benched by Alfred for a twisted back.
He gives it up as a bad night, and heads home to his apartment, instead. Takes himself to bed before the burning behind his eyes gets the better of him.
~
Jason sleeps in fits and starts. Dreams of Cass as the driver of the truck and of finding only Sheila inside the trailer; of being eleven again and Bruce and Catherine kicking him out of the Manor. He wakes to a wet face and a sore throat and a horrible pit of loneliness in his stomach.
“Fuck this.” He mutters to the quiet, dragging himself from his bed and getting dressed. If he leaves now, he can make it to the Manor before Robin gets back from patrol. A fight with Bruce always makes him feel better… He won’t feel like this anymore, anyway.
He gets to the old stone mansion around 3am. He thinks about heading in through the Cave, but it isn’t Batman he wants to fight, it’s Bruce. He decides to scale the trellis outside his old window instead. Maybe he’ll stomp mud through the stupid shrine Bruce has in there for good measure. That always winds the old man up.
He lands with an unceremonious thump. Makes no effort to minimise the racket he makes as he slams the window closed in its frame behind him. His old posters are still on the wall, fading now in the light of so many years. Wonder Woman smiles down at him from one, Denzel Washington glares from another. Bruce must have superglued them to the wall for them to still be up after all this time.
His books still sit on the shelves around the room, and on his desk is his unfinished science homework. Something about xylem and phloem and osmosis. The bed is still made, a faded pair of pyjamas on the pillow and a copy of Nicholas Nickleby is on the nightstand. Beside it, a framed photo of Catherine and a four year old Jason.
“Oh.” He says stupidly to the empty room. He had forgotten that was here.
Suddenly his eyes are burning again, his throat too tight to swallow. He sits heavily on the bed, holds the picture in his hands.
“Jason?”
It’s Bruce, obviously. Jason doesn’t look at him, too busy trying to see the photo of his mom through the blurring in his eyes.
“Oh, Jay.” Bruce says sadly.
The mattress dips beside Jason and a warm hand rests on his shoulder. All of the fights seeps out of him. “I thought I saw her the other day,” He says. His voice is barely a whisper, creaking into the air through the tightness in his throat.
“I’m sorry,” Bruce says. “That’s always tough.”
“Does it happen to you, too?” Jason asks, wiping at his eyes.
“Less and less.” Bruce says. “Sometimes I worry I don’t really remember what they look like anymore. Even with the photos.”
“I don’t have any photos,” Jason doesn’t realise it’s true until the words have fallen from his mouth. They leave a bitter taste on his tongue. “I don’t think I’ve really even thought about her since I’ve been… since I’ve been back.”
“Oh chum,” Bruce says softly, and Jason feels eleven all over again. Broken with grief and loneliness and loss. “You should have said.” Bruce stands slowly, the pain in his back telegraphed in his movements. He shuffles over to one of the bookshelves, pulls down a box that sits on the top shelf. He hands it to Jason.
“What’s this?” Jason asks.
Bruce shifts awkwardly. “I have a programme that searches for pictures of you kids and your families.” He says. “As more records are digitised, it collects them. Most of it is old school photos, or the occasional local paper. It’s partly for me.” He mumbles. “I have so few pictures of you all when you were little.” A pause. “But it’s for you as well. Memories of your childhoods…” He trails off.
Jason opens the box and his own smiling face looks up at him from inside. There are photos of him from kindergarten and elementary school. Pictures from theme parks in the summer and visits to Santa’s Grotto at Christmas. Catherine is in there too. Next to a seven year old Jason on the tea cups and a five year old him at the zoo. There are even some photos of just her. One from her university pass when she had been studying to be a teacher, and one from her drivers license. Her and some girlfriends at the top of the Empire State Building. Photos Jason has never seen before, that he didn’t even know existed.
He stares at her, the beautiful woman she was, before the drugs wasted her away. His throat gets tight again. He turns to Bruce.
“Do you think she’d like me?” He asks, his voice small.
For once, Bruce seems to know the right thing to say. “Oh, darling.” He presses a kiss to Jason’s curls. “She’d adore you.”

Understanding the Mystical Arts: Tarot vs. Oracle Cards
In the world of divination, both tarot and oracle cards hold significant places, yet they serve different purposes and tap into unique realms of the spiritual plane. Here’s a deeper look at how they differentiate and how you can harness their power effectively. 🔮✨
Tarot Cards: A Blend of Skill & Clairvoyance
Tarot reading is an art that balances both learned expertise and natural clairvoyant abilities. Here’s why:
- **Skill**: Reading tarot cards requires a deep understanding of the cards' meanings, symbolism, and the intricate connections between them. This knowledge is honed through study and practice.
- **Clairvoyance**: A gifted reader channels their intuitive and psychic abilities to interpret the messages the cards reveal, often uncovering insights that transcend the obvious.
Oracle Cards: Divine Connection to Higher Sources ✨
Oracle cards, on the other hand, are a conduit for more magical and mystical energies:
- **Higher Sources**: These cards are believed to draw guidance from higher spiritual entities such as spirit guides, ancestors, and angels, offering messages that are often more direct and less structured than tarot.
- **Magical Essence**: Oracle cards are imbued with a sense of magic that connects you to a higher plane, providing wisdom and guidance that feels otherworldly and profound.
Grounding & Protection: Essential Practices
Whether you're using tarot or oracle cards, grounding and protection are crucial for a safe and effective reading. Before diving into a session:
- **Ground Yourself**: Ensure you are centered and connected to the earth. This helps maintain balance and focus.
- **Protect Your Energy**: Use protective rituals or visualizations to shield yourself from negative energies. This ensures that you only connect with benevolent spirits and guides.
- **Trust Your Intuition**: Your intuition is your most powerful tool. If something feels off, it probably is. Trust your gut – it’s 99% foolproof!
By grounding and protecting yourself, you create a safe space for divine downloads to your third eye, allowing you to receive messages from those who wish you well. You’ll know right away if the connection is true – trust in your intuition and let it guide you through the mystical journey of divination.
Embrace the Magic & Wisdom of Both Worlds!

About time I made a demonstration for Sirque's new force field bracelet, as I've written in "Write Turn Here". So far her right bracelet is the only one shooting portal magnets, so maybe the other one will have room for generating force fields that she can use to shield herself and others, or smaller ones that she can use in attacks.
(also I have the hc of Sirque used to play softball during her college & PhD days)
Design notes:
The idea of force field bracelets is first of all, plausible because Sirque's expertise is electromagnetics, so she would know how to generate stuff like this. But the appearance of these fields are inspired by Violet's force fields in the Incredibles franchise, and the energy constructs cast by oracles in The Owl House.
