fellas we're once again wrestling with imperfect vs. perfect contrition and why imperfect contrition with a firm resolution to not sin again and promptly receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation doesn't save

#I get that it doesn't but !!!! I don't like it and I think its bad and I'm mad at God #it's definitely not because I only have imperfect contrition and get afraid to die #but like if its a gift from God #so much more of a gift perfect contrition is #but if cooperating with grace only results in imperfect contrition #why is it still damnable #his ways higher than my ways i know the line #this didnt save my other tags ahh!!!#but take this example from movie recently #man is a lapsed catholic #hes murdered people etc. very many grave sins #he has a terrifying near death experience and in the hospital asks to have a Priest come #because he wants to confess his sins #he ends up being denied one and murdered himself #to me (vibes) hes motivated by genuine belief and fear (imperfect) but hes also made #TANGIBLE STEPS to try and receive the Sacrament #he clearly wants to be reconciled and is trying #and the most we can hope for him is the same extraordinary salvation we hope a muslim has or an atheist?#intuitively that seems wrong idk #also moots i just realized this might be scandalous etc. I'm trying to religious submission of mind and will #pls tell me if i ought to delete and i will #also tbf on some level I would get the extraordinary salvation is all we can hope for bc of the efficacy of the Sacraments #EXCEPT for baptism by desire #and specifically the fact that motivation to be baptized does not come into consideration #you die before you can be baptized when you've expressed a desire and are trying to be baptized?#saved. no questions asked.#thats what makes this tough for me

OKAY LETS GO THROUGH THE ROBINS-

Dick - There was a LOT of reasons Dick left being Robin. One was because Bruce stopped listening to him, but also because he realized he and Bruce didn't see eye to eye, and he needed to get away to figure himself out. (Revision version of Dick is "I was forced into this" but reality says "Dick was going to murder Zuko if Bruce liked it or not, so he had to learn to NOT-")

Jason - Jason didn't listen to Bruce BECAUSE HE WANTED TO FIND HIS MOM, went to iran, and was killed.

Tim - Tim was a great Robin, and Bruce ACTUALLY did Listen to him! Tim would tell him he needed to sit this out, and HE WOULD LISTEN! Bruce did have a few problems about ya know, Jason's Death, and would call Tim "Jason" sometimes, but yet, he got better. In the end, Damian was the one who tried to force himself to be Robin, Bruce said no, but after Bruce's Death, Dick forced Tim to get rid of the Robin Persona. (Not Tim's Choice)

Steph - I love Steph, but gosh darn it, she was Robin for 4 days and NO ONE LIKED WORKING WITH HER- SHE WAS FIRED!! Tim's dad learned he was Robin, and a week later, he died. Tim was forced to stop being Robin, and during that time Steph was Robin. Max she could have been Robin for a Week, BUT we know she didn't last that long, because Tim came back and even during Identity Crisis he was Robin again. A LOT happened that week.

Duke - Duke just got here.

Cass - Cass has never listened.

For Damian, my friend thinks he thinks this way because Dick was his Batman for a while, and that's probably how Dick saw things. So yeah. That's what got me thinking this chapter.

I wrote about this on discord a bit back but I think a big part of the whole doctor-master complication is that it's the type of argument and the master is the kind of person where they'd rather die than do something that might make it seem like conceding they're wrong, regardless what they actually think, and that's why "where I stand is where I fall. Stand with me" that almost works on Missy: She has made her move here, she killed him- made so he's dead when the other shoe drops- and he knows and acknowledges that and can offer her a way of coming near him and being on the same side without it being her side losing, saving face that she can join him in this. And the speech very much highlights how to the doctor it's never been about winning, always about harm to people and help to people, but I don't think the master is as affected by that as by the 'if you want to hold my hand now I can make it so it doesn't make you seem the fool for your past actions'.

#and thats how i think you get missy2 is that hes at a point where hes so exhausted with the role he stuck himself in w the master #he wants out but he would NEVER take the embarassment of changing his mind or his ways in public-#proving anyone else right all along? unthinkable- he instead concots some great last evil design #not sure whether its to gurantee some retirement from a position of dignity or to change his own timeline-#leaning second- but regardless its Very very much 'or die trying' (and have that peace)#and when 18 realizes she cant not just. her hearts are so squished by that. by seeing her friend treat himself like that #and if she foiled his plan before realizing this and now she needs him to step from the beink and not go down w his ship #and his tardis gets destroyed and. what is she gonna do. well obviously take him but what i mean is #when she takes him what do you expect her- to be all naggy and complicated about his morals?#ok maybe but shes gonna just let them both be messed up and trying to do better except when theyre not yknow #he can have little a murder as a treat. or. yknow. I've talked a bit about Criston before, so I'll just link those two responses here, one's about show!Criston and the other is about book!Criston. Those cover my thoughts on both versions of the character pretty well.

And honestly quick fandom grip: people who lump him up with, like, Joffrey or Ramsay or Euron are straight weird to me. One's a straight up psychopath, one is a serial rapist and abuser who in the books forced Jeyne to be raped by his fucking dogs among the myriad other things he did to her and tortures Theon for the Hell of it and literally starved his first wife to the point where she ate her own fucking fingers, one is a literal child molester who repeatedly raped and abused his two little brothers and is also trying to end the world. But a guy who was sad about a break up and made new friends with someone his ex didn't like is a step too far for some people? Grow the fuck up.
