Arudha Lagna in the Signs

Best Love Theme: Di Inakala by Paul Pablo, Marahuyo Project

Such a gorgeous song, first used while King reads Ino's letter and realizes Ino has feelings for him. Hits me right in the chest every time I hear it.

Best Sex Scene - Almond and Latte's first time, Knock Knock Boys

Everyone else can throw in the towel, this is the best depiction of a loving but awkward first time that will ever be committed to film.

Star of My Vision Board: Yako, She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat

It's not every day that a show manages to sell you on a 20+ year age gap, but this one did it without breaking a sweat and had us all rooting for Ishida to eat that old man up with a spoon.

Best Sight Gag: Rock Lifting Karan Over His Shoulder, Cherry Magic Thailand

Is it the way Rock bends down and grabs him with no warning? The way Karan still does a polite wai over his shoulder? The way Dujdao scurries after them? Idk but it's been 10 months and I am still laughing.

Best Absolute Mindfuck: Love for Love's Sake

Sometimes a scene from this drama will flash through my mind and I'll have to spend a few minutes just staring at the wall, and that's how you know it was damn good.

Most Brainrot Inducing: Unknown

The way this story had a chokehold on my brain for three entire months was no joke.

Swooniest Love Interest: Mahasamut, Love Sea

Just look at this glorious man! And on top of all that visual splendor, he's kind and generous and brave and smart and competent and high key a smart ass. In this house we love Mahasamut!

Best Classic Watch: The Miracle of Teddy Bear

The most delightfully surprising watch of the year for me, and a great reminder to never, ever trust anything MDL commenters say about a show.

Continuing the story of Cheetah!reader.

Cheetahs are solitary animals but they are great parents. Reader unconsciously regards Yuu and Grim as their children. When he saw Grim and Reader covered in scratches and dirt from the Principal's missions, Reader gave them a light kiss on the cheek, and Yuu and Grim were instantly clean and all the scratches on their bodies disappeared. It was the "Healing Kiss" magic, Reader's mother said that this magic can only be used on family, and Reader regards Grim and Yuu as family. Part of it is because Yuu and Grim are lonely, and part of it is because Reader also wants a family but that goes against the cheetah's independent nature as they would be forced to cut off contact with their family when they reach adulthood, but what if the family members were of another species?

Readers are still learning about humans so there are many things they cannot understand.

Reader: Shouldn't it? Turns out it's because of that problem. Humans are so full of troubles. *Finally sat in the library reading books on human psychology*

Reader is quite polite and gentle, not calculating, something considered unreasonable by Savanaclaw members.

Also to why you are more loved by (most of) the freshmen compared to... everyone else in the dorm.

Life After Divorce for Emma May

For awhile now I’ve struggled to figure out what job Emma May could’ve taken up after the divorce as for so many reasons this is SUCH a messy topic.

Firstly, do y’all ever think about how the only reason Fiddleford was even going to Gravity Falls in the first place was to secure more money and provide a better financial future for his family (something he’d always dreamt of doing) only to then lose his memories, leaving the family in shambles, and ultimately leaving them in a worse financial situation with Em as a single mom?? Cause I think about this ALL the time-

To me it only makes sense that Fiddleford would marry someone just as lovely and sweet as him, but also someone who is tough enough for both of them. Let’s all nod our heads and agree that Fiddleford is a pushover and a major people pleaser. Most of his kindness to Ford is him outwardly wanting validation from an old friend he admirers because otherwise he feels useless and unintelligent. Ie Fidds whole, ‘I’m the builder, if I’m not building something than I’m useless’. So when he becomes too exhausted to build and Ford grows frustrated with this he tries to make up for it with gifts etc :,). That paired with some chronic anxiety is a recipe for a man who needs someone who can understand that and is willing to help him- his wife. mutually patient and kind as he, is happy to be that for him.

Regardless as far as her career goes, smart as she is, I don’t see her as book smart? Rather people smart? Emma May knows how to talk someone up, knows how to make a deal, knows how to defuse a situation, and could probably sell someone their own shirt off their back. Perhaps that could stem from the cult background I explain here and here, but regardless she’s witty in conversation and great at pretending she’s an expert on something she’s never heard of.

Naturally I thought sales would be a good place to put her, maybe rise the ladder that way? One of those late night tv marketers? But it didn’t feel like enough? The 80’s were a prime time for women to put themselves into the workplace, incredibly toxic as the environment was for them it didn’t stop women from being excited to be there. Ironically it’s the perfect time to divorce? Even if she didn’t want to, after the giant homicidal pterodactyl robot it sort of felt like a, ‘even if I still love my husband, if I value me and my sons life, I have to do this’ sort of thing

After taking that into consideration I thought ‘honestly bigger is better’ so I brainstormed harder to figure it out. And after a few lengthy rabbit holes I believe I figured it out. While Fiddleford acts as sort of the Bill Gates of the Gravity Falls universe I thought ‘who’s someone else deeply recognizable in Americas pop culture, but tv related?’ And then it hit me, ‘oh my god what if Emma May acts as the Oprah of the Gravity Falls universe? The Emma Dixon Show?’ (In the sense of a beloved tv personality that unexpectedly rose to great fame in the mid 1980s) The-match up felt perfect enough and a mid 80s timeframe feels realistic too as it gives her those three years to struggle and figure something out to provide for her son.

But also hi hello, I needed Emma May to peruse some sense of tv fame for the sake of her last name becoming a synonymous one. Considering I have no idea where miss Emmaline Butternubbins wound up after the fall of Billville (or hell if she’s even alive some twenty odd years later) but I love the idea of Emmaline recognizing the name ‘Dixon’, seeing the similarities on tv between Emma May and what she remembers of young Madeline, and wanting to reach out. Mainly out of fear that Ciphertology is rising again and she wants to talk some sense into her, sure, but once they meet or get in contact and Em couldn’t be further from that?? She’s relieved. Plus the two can bond over the absolute madness of the cult (also Emma May gaining a mother figure that isn’t Fiddleford mom? I love Bobbie Jean, but Em needs even more maternal support)

Also also?? I always envisioned Emma May as the type of gal to be super into photography. She just loves taking pictures of memories, people she cares about, and stuff she likes.

So this especially grew once she had Tate, the kid naturally being used to getting his photo taken for scrapbooks, and he loved being photogenic

But once his mom becomes a tv personality he begins to detest the public eye and the cameras of others

Its a hatred he keeps to adulthood especially, having zero tolerance for anyones cameras (other than his moms polaroid camera) pointed towards him

There's a Stephenie Meyer quote I think about like, once very few months, and it's this:

I don’t think my books qualify to be Oprah books. I think you have to take on bigger issues than Vampire/Werewolf love to make her interested. I don’t have any incest, adultery, spousal abuse, mental disease, molestation, anorexia, suicide, cutting, etc. 

Which, okay, yeah, Twilight is not a literary novel that explores any of these topics in depth, which is SM's point. It is very much a love story with a girl and a vampire (and kind of also a werewolf but not really), but . . . a bunch of these topics DO appear in her books?! Edward did try to kill himself. You can argue if what Bella was doing in New Moon actually qualifies, but Edward very much went to Volterra with the intention of committing if not something like assisted suicide, then the vampire version of suicide by cop. Also, ESME (as a human) and CARLISLE (as a newborn vampire) both tried to kill themselves in their respective backstories. ESME suffered spousal abuse. ALICE's father committed adultery with the woman who was to become her step-mother. ALICE was locked up in an asylum. EMBRY's unknown father committed adultery. BREE's father abused her and murdered her mother. SM didn't mention rape in this quote, but it happens a few times in female characters' backstories, most notably Rosalie, a pretty major secondary character.

And while the Cullen siblings all being married to each other isn't technically incest, it's like, incest adjacent or at least looks incest-y to the human population. And there's an argument to be made the Cullens' whole thing with blood is a kind of eating disorder.

Again, I get her point, she's not exploring this stuff. This isn't a 'serious' story about 'serious' topics, it's a YA paranormal romance and yeah, Oprah's Book Club doesn't pick those. But most of that stuff IS there to some degree, and the fact that it's not the point, and most of it is in backstory I guess means she doesn't think it "counts?" Which is fascinating to me in a weird way, like "oh only the secondary characters had to deal with that, it's not really in the books!" or "it only happened in backstory, it's not really in the books." But Edward does attempt suicide, and Bree is the main character of her novella (To be very fair, this quote may pre-date the Bree Tanner book, I think this is from the TwilightMOMS forum that no longer appears to exist).

I don't know. I just think about it a lot. It fascinates me.

Also, and this is less important, calling it a story about "Vampire/Werewolf love" makes it seem like she's pairing a vampire and a werewolf.
