Many fish species make excellent pets, given proper enrichment and attention to water parameters. Acquire a sounding vessel from your local alchemist to see if there are any demons or angels haunting your water. You can add demons to angelic water to balance it back out and vise versa. Each species has an ideal water alignment, and after letting the entities fight it out and settle, you can safely add inhabitants to your pond or tank. I recommend a small school of neon tetras, with plenty of plants in which they can hide. You will enjoy watching this species school around, as they do quite well in captivity with the proper care.
There is no proper care for mermaids.
There is no proper tank size, or water parameters, or enrichment or plants or anything.
Mermaids cannot be kept as pets. But some people do keep them confined, and traded like livestock. This, of course, is slavery. Just as we are descended from apes and mermaids are descended from fish; we are both still people.
Of course there are those who disagree with this categorization; and there are those who do believe, but do not care.
The black market is a lucrative and deadly operation, crawling in the underbelly of most major human cities. They trade in mundane humans on occasion, but usually it is creatures and artifacts with some magical component: mermaids, fairies, even magic-touched humans such as werewolves, selkies, and ogres. The latter being very difficult to contain as a live specimen, so often their pelts are sold instead. These are marketed alongside unicorn horns, kelpie manes, basilisk fangs, and all else forbidden from trade by anyone with a heart.
Apologies.
These topics often distract me from the professionalism of my calling. Suffice it to say, if this series has inspired you to fantasize about pet mermaids, do not. Consider a mundane fish, and seek friendship with mermaids at your local outreach dock.
Mermaids rescued from market and the homes of decadent aristocrats have a long journey of healing ahead of them. Many cannot speak their own species' language, but pick up the language of their captors instead. For this reason, rehabilitation is a joint effort between humans and mermaids, before returning them fully to seas and waterways.
Success is difficult, but rewarding. Much moreso than any value they could possibly hold as "pets." Please be careful, and respectful of your fellow sentient creature.
Remember, you don't have to be human to be a person. And no person wants to be be a pet.

Hello! Here's an update on all of Arknights' currently accessible auxiliary material as of May 2024! There's plenty to check out, so I hope this is helpful for some!
Animation
Arknights Prelude To Dawn (S1) and Perish in Frost (S2): [Crunchyroll]
Tumblr media
An adaptation of the main story, up through Chapter 0 to Chapter 6! It's much more fast-paced than the in-game story, so I wouldn't use it to replace actually reading it, but it's very cool to see some of these scenes in full animation. Season 3, Arknights: Rise from Ember, has been announced! Lee's Detective Agency: [Youtube]
Tumblr media
A mini-series animated in a chibi style with a comedic tone. Focused on the adventures of the Kuroblood-illustrated Lee's Detective Agency! Distributed by Crunchyroll globally, but entirely free to watch.
Closure's Secret Files: [Youtube]
Tumblr media
A cut-out styled series of shorts hosted by Closure which outlines a lot of the game's basic mechanics!
Holy Knight Light: [Youtube]
Tumblr media
A short OVA focusing around Penguin Logistics delivering a package, celebrating Arknights' first anniversary. Officially posted to Youtube!
Kay's Daily Doodles: [Youtube]
Tumblr media
Another free, comedic Youtube mini-series, posted to the offical Arknights Youtube account and focused around Ceobe! Here's some additional animations! Each event usually also has a 15 second 2D animated preview of the event, but there's so many of those that I can't list them all. Anniversary Event 3D Animations: Zwillingstürme im Herbst So Long, Adele Lone Trail Where Vernal Winds Will Never Blow Il Siracusano Ideal City Stultifera Navis Invitation To Wine Near Light Dossoles Holiday Under Tides Bonus 3D Animated Shorts: Legend of Chongyue Arknights Special - IL Siracusano Lo Scontro Youtube Shorts: Ch'en and Lin's Watermelon Splitting Game Part 1 Ch'en and Lin's Watermelon Splitting Game Part 2 Amiya's Siracusan Food Guide Part 1 Amiya's Siracusano Food Guide Part 2 Amiya's Special Gift Doctor's Gifts in Return 1 Doctor's Gifts in Return 2
Comics, Manga, Manhua
Officially Translated:
Rhodes Island's Records of Originium: Rhine Lab: [Offical Source]
Tumblr media
A canon manhua centered around the circumstances that lead to Silence falling out with Saria and joining Rhodes Island with Ifrit, as well as Ifrit's attempt to save a dying infected stowaway on the landship. Essential reading for understanding the Rhine Lab storyline and characters - read it right after Mansfield for when it was chronologically released! One of the characters, Darya, is mentioned in both Ifrit's module and briefly in Lone Trail.
Rhodes Island's Records of Originium: Blacksteel: [Official Source]
Tumblr media
A short story focusing on the lives of the Blacksteel operators aboard the landship. While it often gets overshadowed by the Rhine Lab manga which is bigger in scope, this is a great read especially if you're interested in Franka or Liskarm.
Rhodes Kitchen -TIDBITS-: [Official Source]
Tumblr media
An anthology story related to the cuisine that's important to a variety of operators. While it might seem unassuming, the art is gorgeous and it's really well-written! The Blacksteel, Rhine Lab, and Rhodes Kitchen manga have all been sold in physical copies, if you're interested in having them in print!
Prelude Suite: Cadenza Virtuosa: [Official Source]
Tumblr media
An epilogue to Hortus De Escapismo focusing on Arturia's background, with the second chapter serving as a prelude for Zwillingstrume im Herbst! An excellent read to get better insight into Arturia's character.
Angelina: Sketches of this Messenger's Journey: [Official Source]
Tumblr media
A more comedically focused manwha, centered on the adventures of Angelina travelling across Terra as a Messenger! Currently updating, with recent chapters focusing on Sami and Siesta!
Unofficially Translated
The Dagger's Inheritors: [Youtube]
Tumblr media
A 15-minute short 3D animated film about W's past and relationship with Theresa, released for the 5th Arknights anniversary. Arknights Comic Anthology: [Mangadex]
Tumblr media
As the title says, a series of non-canon anthology stories regarding the cast of Rhodes' Island! Some of the chapters on Mangadex for the later volumes of the Comic Anthology specifically have been machine translated, but the same is not true for the other manga shared here. Chapters are hit-and-miss, but the whole series is generally a fun read! See the original post for specific chapter suggestions.
123 Rhodes Island: [Mangadex]
Tumblr media
A series of non-canon gag comics for the CN server, usually updated when new operators or events release!
Arknights: Operators!: [Mangadex]
Tumblr media
A compilation of shortform manga posted on the official ArknightsJP twitter account! Thank you to @sleepywoodscans for their work on personally translating these!
Arknights: A1 Operations Preparation Detachment: [Mangadex]
Tumblr media
Part of the Terra Historicus website and not yet officially translated, focusing on Fang, Kroos and Beagle before they join Rhodes Island, and a catastrophe striking the Columbian city of Tkaronto. Thank you to @pooce-art for their translation work!
Other:
Arknights Ambience Synesthesia: [Youtube]
Tumblr media
A series of concerts (4 so far), focused around Arknights' music! A live performance has been done every year, with skins released in-game for the concert's theme & 3D animations produced featuring the skin's cast in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Monster Siren Records: [Spotify] [Official Website]
Tumblr media
Arknights' official (and-in-universe) record label publishing game OSTs, themes for almost every 6 star operator that releases, and occasional bonus songs.
Arknights: Endfield: [Twitter]
Tumblr media
An upcoming 3D action gacha game from Hypergryph, set in the far future of Arknights' universe on another planet. Currently in closed beta testing for both EN and CN servers!
UNOFFICIAL:
Some fandom-developed tools that might be of use to you are: The Arknights Terra Wiki. While it is a very accurate source for in-game data, take the explanation of in-game story and some specific claims with a grain of salt. The FANDOM version of this wiki is currently no longer mantained and subject to vandalism! Given you can translate or read Chinese, PRTS.wiki is the current best resource for game assets!
As well, the Arknights Story Reader can help you catch up on stuff you don't want to or can't read in game! Jacob Moreau on Youtube provides voiceover readings of many in-game stories as well.
Finally, Aceship's Toolbox provides access to a variety of tools, including a levelling calculator, a calculator to ensure the best recruitments, and all the CGs, backgrounds and character sprites that are available in-game as of So Long, Adele (as far as I'm aware, the sprite/cg gallery is no longer being updated.)
Conclusion:
Thank you for reading! I hope this provided some new information to you or is an easy reference source in the future. Some things, such as merch (i.e. board games) or the official lore book have not been included due to not being accessible or translated for EN players. I'm happy to continue to provide more information like this to make the art surrounding this series more accessible! If you have any questions, feel free to send me an ask.

how can a show be about hatred of women when there are no women in it who are important that aren't doomed by the narrative? now misogyny is for men? supernatural hates and kills women, and you want to claim that that the misogyny is towards the men? god forbid women do anything i guess.
You know what? Your unwillingness to own your opinion publicly and your tone notwithstanding, this is actually a good question, anon. You are referring to this post, I think.
Misogyny in its simplest definition is hatred of women. For me, though, that definition feels a bit too narrow and a bit too gender essentialist. As a rejector of gender essentialism, I would broaden that definition to say that misogyny is the hatred of that which is seen or understood as feminine, or all the things that appear to exist on that side of the binary -- man over woman, logic over intuition, rationality over emotionality, etc. The things on the feminine side are weak, irrational, soft, untrustworthy, dangerous.
I like philospher Kate Manne's take on it -- she calls misogyny the enforcement arm of the patriarchy in her excellent book Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny, arguing that misogyny (like racism) is not about personal feelings, it's “a social and political phenomenon with psychological, structural, and institutional manifestations”, and it's mission is to maintain the status quo of gender hierarchy. Misogyny operates as patriarchy's "police force" to enforce gender roles, punishing those (usually women) who deviate from them, and keep everyone (again, usually women) in their rightful places, and while obviously misogyny is directed at women, and this is the topic of Manne's book, I would argue that if women under patriarchy have a place to be kept in, so do men, whose deviation is, in some ways, even more threatening to the status quo.
I said in my post that the overt misogyny directed at women in Supernatural is cartoonish and ridiculous and feels too obviously stupid to be unintentionally placed there, and amounts to a depiction rather than a replication or approval of it. Meanwhille, Dean's masculinity is often just as cartoonish. He's practically play-acting Fonz Solo when he shows up at Sam's in his daddy's big leather jacket and muscle car. However, while Dean does performatively pose as the ultimate man's man and womanizer, leering at college girls and cheerleaders and even Sam's girlfriend, when he is actually called upon to interact with a woman who is not troped to the gills with hot girl stereotypes or posing for Sam's benefit, he is very consistently nothing but respectful and does no leering whatsoever.
Meanwhile, though Sam is too cool and urbane for the leering, he is lying to Jessica about his life and his family, which endangers her and gets her killed, while Dean, we learn soon enough, told Cassie everything the minute he thought he was in love with her. Dean play acts misogyny, but Sam is the one infantilizing his woman. And, even though Dean spends a lot of energy aggressively big upping his man-cred, the fact is that he is the intuitive, emotional one, and he plays an undeniably feminine role in his family. He's John's partner, Sam's mother. He's the one who wants to hold the family together for the sake of love.
All of this is in the FIRST SEASON. Watch it again. Think about the way Sam only agrees in the end of episode 1 to go with Dean after Jessica gets classically fridged, so Sam gets called to his hero's journey. Think about how Dean went to his brother, vulnerable, alone and afraid, needing help, and how, in the end, Sam's acceptance of their quest is not an acceptance of Dean at all. Think about how Sam is a direct mirror to John who has deserted Dean at the time the story begins. John wants Dean to submit himself to John's will, but he treats Dean with scorn, and respects Sam, who refuses to do so. Think about how trope-loaded Mary's white nightgown and Jessica's skimpy tomboy/girlish and self-consciously cute briefs and smurf crop-top are -- how what is being killed when they both die is symbolic mother/modern-twist on maiden (or whore?) femininity, which sends John and Sam on a revenge quest, and about how Dean DID NOT CHOOSE to be on that journey; he was DRAFTED.
The final episodes of the season make Dean's role explicit when he pleads with Sam and John for family, for love; tells them they are all he has, and Azazel, possessing John, praises Dean for being the one who keeps them together, who always looks out for their family, and think about what a knife to the heart it is that that's how Dean knows that John is possessed: his real father would never value those things about him. He'd think they were too soft, too feminine.
If you watch Supernatural from the beginning, keeping an eye out for every time Dean is feminized or someone (often SAM!!) drags him by impugning his masculinity (I think @ilarual is doing a tally of this? Or someone else?) it's really hard to unsee once you start noticing it: Dean is subjected to misogyny ALL THE TIME, and he subjects himself to it -- pushing down all his softer feelings until all he has is anger and fear -- it's the kind that tells him that he's isn't man enough.
Like, can you not see that a saying 'Supernatural kills female characters' ergo it is a misogynist story is just...too blunt an instrument? Supernatural kills women, and it also kills and tortures men. Is there misogyny in it? ABSOLUTELY. Misogyny is a deep vein running through absolutely everything in it, but most of that misogyny is THE REASON TO TELL THE STORY. The fact that it is a story ABOUT MEN is not misogynist in and of itself, particularly when it is so critical of what men become and and are forced into by hegemonic masculinity. For my money, Dean is intentionally and thoroughgoingly queered from the off! It is no accident. It would be difficult to do that as completely as they do without it being part of the actually DNA of the story.
WHICH IT IS.
And PS. the fact that you think none of the women in SPN are important is pretty misogynist of you.

do you write for greys? if so, could you do something with Amelia Shepherd and teen reader? Whether it's her daughter or a patient, i don't mind. and could the story be suuuper cute and fluffy? or whatever you feel up to writing is fine. Thx! 🥰
Tumblr media
Summary: Amelia Shepherd meets a talented young medical student who wants to learn from her. A close relationship develops between the two of you, with Amelia not only sharing her medical expertise, but also acting as a mentor and friend while you help Amelia regain confidence in herself after botching a surgery that she actually knows by heart.
ᕚ---ᕘ
Amelia Shepherd hurried through the busy hallways of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, her gown flapping behind her as she was summoned to a consultation. Her mind was whirling as she prepared to tend to a new patient when suddenly a gentle voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
"Excuse me, Dr. Shepherd? Would you have a moment for me?" you asked and Amelia turned around, a young woman with a backpack over her shoulder and a stack of books under her arm catching her eye. Your eyes sparkled at her, and the neurosurgeon could immediately see the glint of curiosity in them.
"Of course," Amelia spoke and smiled. She tilted her head to the side and slipped her hands into her coat pockets before continuing. "How can I help you? Are you hurt?"
You stepped closer and held out your hand. "No. My name is y/n y/l/n. I am a medical student interning and I heard that you are one of the best surgeons here. I would really like to learn from you."
Amelia's smile deepened as she saw the determination in your expression. "It's nice to meet you, y/n. And of course I'm happy to help you. What exactly do you want to learn?" she asked and you beamed with joy, keeping pace with her as she continued walking, signaling you with a hand signal to follow her. "Anything you can teach me! I admire your work and want to learn as much as I can from you."
The brunette felt a wave of warmth in her heart. It had been a long time since someone had so enthusiastically asked to be her mentor. Far too long. "Well then let's get started." she said, leading you through the corridors of the hospital to the consultation she was needed for.
In the following days, Amelia and you spent a lot of time together. She showed you the different departments of the hospital, explained complex medical cases and even let you watch some operations. As you worked together, you began to get to know each other better, and Amelia became more and more impressed by your intelligence, ambition, quick wit, and kindness.
One day, while you were taking a break together in the cafeteria, you turned to Amelia with a shy smile. "Could I perhaps ask you for a favor, Dr. Shepherd?"
Amelia nodded and placed a hand on your shoulder while fishing for her fork with the other hand. "Of course, y/n. What's wrong?"
You hesitated for a moment before continuing nervously. "Well, I recently heard about a scholarship available for promising young doctors like myself, but the application process is quite demanding. I was wondering if you could perhaps write me a recommendation?"
Amelia smiled softly and nodded. "Of course I will, y/n. I'm sure you're an excellent candidate. I'm happy to support you and hope to see you here permanently as a medical student." She answered and you beamed with gratitude and relief, barely able to contain your joy. "Thank you, Dr. Shepherd. You have no idea how much this means to me."
"From now on it's Amelia, not Dr. Shepherd." She interrupted and as she continued to smile at you, she couldn't help but feel warm and fulfilled. In you she saw not only a talented young medical student, but also a friend and a possible successor. And she looked forward to supporting you on your journey, just as so many others had supported her when she was an aspiring doctor herself.
ᕚ---ᕘ
The news of your successful acceptance into the prestigious Grey Sloan scholarship spread like wildfire through the hospital, and Amelia couldn't help but beam with pride as she prepared to teach you everything she knew.
When you came to see her in person the next day, Amelia could hardly contain her excitement. “Congratulations, y/n!” she shouted, walking the last few centimeters towards you to pull you into a strong hug.
You grinned widely with joy and returned the hug as you laid your head on her chest and she planted a kiss on the top of your head. "Thank you, Amelia! I couldn't be happier!"
Amelia stepped back and regarded you with a beaming gaze as she wrapped an arm around your shoulder, leading you with her. "You deserve it, y/n. I knew from the beginning that you would make it."
The two of you walked up to a meeting room before you started talking about the future and how you would work together. You were excited to finally have the opportunity to develop the full extent of your knowledge and skills, and the neurosurgeon promised to support you every step of the way.
In the weeks and months that followed, an even closer friendship developed between the two of you. You continued to spend a lot of time together, both in and out of the hospital, sharing your thoughts, fears, and dreams.
Amelia was impressed by your eagerness and insatiable desire to learn and grow. She recognized that you were not only a talented aspiring doctor, but also a remarkable young woman with a strong moral compass and a warm heart.
As a mentor and friend, she stood by you when you needed support, be it with difficult medical cases that she assigned to you or with personal challenges. She encouraged you to do your best and never give up, no matter how big the obstacles might be.
And while Amelia helped you grow professionally and personally, she also found comfort and inspiration in your close friendship and enthusiasm. Together you went through ups and downs, but through your mutual support and affection, you grew stronger and closer together.
For Amelia, you were not just a student or a colleague, but an important companion on her own path, and she was grateful for the chance to have you on her path. Because in you she not only found a mental heir, but also a friend for life. She was able to lean on you especially in the difficult times, like during the time of her brother's death.
She had thrown herself back into work immediately after the funeral without taking a few days off, and now she was standing in front of the mirror in the relaxation room at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, staring at hersel. Her eyes shone uncertainty and self-doubt as she reflected on the events of the last few weeks.
An operation gone wrong. A patient who had suffered. And above all, the agonizing realization that she, an experienced surgeon, had made a mistake. A mistake that could have been avoided. A mistake that haunted her and shook her confidence in her own abilities.
Since her brother's tragic death, Amelia had struggled with grief. She had thrown herself into work to distract herself and numb the pain, but somewhere deep inside her doubt continued to gnaw at her. You had been a constant source of support and comfort during this dark time. As her young student and friend, you had not only supported Amelia with medical matters, but also served as an emotional support, encouraging her and reminding her that she was not alone.
There was a knock on the door that took her out of her thoughts and you walked in, a worried look on your face. "Amelia, how are you?" You asked softly, stepping closer. The brunette sighed and turned to you, her eyes dark with pain. "I'm sorry, y/n. I failed. I should have been more careful, I should have been better."
You moved closer to her and put a hand on her shoulder from behind, giving it a tight squeeze. "Am, everyone makes mistakes sometimes. You're only human." You spoke but she shook her head at your statement, unable to overcome the self-blame that tormented her. "But I should have known, y/n. I should have known better."
You looked at Amelia seriously and then lowered your voice to a very soft, quiet whisper. "Amelia, I know you are going through a difficult time. But I want you to remember who you are. You are an incredibly talented and passionate neurosurgeon. You have helped so many people and saved so many lives. Mistakes don't define your entire career."
Your words slowly penetrated Amelia's veil of self-doubt. She raised her eyes to meet yours, but you nudged her to look back in the mirror. When she had done this, you spread her legs with a light kick of your foot and placed one arm after the other on her hips. "Say it, Amelia."
"I am a superhero, let me fly." She whispered and you made the gesture with your hand that warned her to repeat the sentence. You had her repeat it several times until she realized which reflection she was looking into. "Just one strong and combative personality can make mistakes and still shine as much as you do in your Superman pose."
"Thank you, y/n. It means a lot to me." She spoke much stronger and you smiled softly. "We all need a reminder of who we really are sometimes. You are not alone, and I am here to help you remember."
Amelia threw her arms around you before getting back to work with you. Slowly but surely, Amelia began to regain her confidence in herself. With your support and your regular forcing to pose as Superman whenever she had self-doubts again, she overcame them and returned to her true passion: healing and helping people.
Amelia's journey has not been easy, and there have been many challenges and setbacks along the way. But with your continued support, she found herself back, strengthened by your friendship and unwavering confidence in her.

Some Zukka Canon Divergence Fic Recs !
I'm a little bit insane about zukka canon divergence so here are some that I really enjoyed! All of these are on ao3 :)
Boomerangs and Rainbows by Mindbending, Rated T, 67,555 words, Graphic Depictions of Violence, Major Character Death: One of my favorite Zukka canon divergence fics ever! Zuko dies at the North Pole and ends up haunting Sokka as a ghost. I am in love with how this author showed their developing relationship and trust in each other and it's just !! such a great plot, writing style, execution, and character writing.
Blue by bealeciphers, Rated T, 192,682 words, Graphic Depictions of Violence: Ba Sing Se + Blue Spirit zukka canon divergence 👀 A lot of crazy identity shenanigans with this one. This is Zuko pov so it has a lot of focus on Zuko's inner struggle, character arc, identity, and emotions and I think the author did really well! I really enjoyed reading this and seeing the,,,complicated identity concealment zukka going on here that led to some excellent conflict and complicated falling in love!
Operation Leverage by snowandfire, Rated T, 50,723 words, No Archive Warnings Apply: From Ba Sing Se onwards! Zukka fake dating au as Sokka forces Zuko to tell him stuff about fire nation culture :D I liked seeing them get closer! Enemies to friends to lovers my beloved
Leaving it All Behind by Sreeder, Rated M, 259,815 words, Implied/Referenced Rape/Non-Con, Past Child Abuse, Torture, Nudity, Panic Attacks, Implied/Referenced Sexual Assault: This one is for those of you who like reading the dark stuff. I am someone who mostly likes to read more lighthearted things but I read this fic on recommendation and wow is it well-written! Sokka is captured during the siege on the Northern Water Tribe and sent to Zhao's prison camp. He runs into Zuko, and they eventually start working to escape together and get closer in the process. Very slowburn, very intense and dark, graphic depictions of torture and death. This has a completed sequel that continues their journey as well as a third book currently in the works!
I'm Not Angry Anymore by team_avatars_eyebags, Rated T, 69,430 words, No Archive Warnings Apply: Alternate universe where Zuko and Iroh have been peacefully living on Kyoshi Island with secret identities for a good chunk of Zuko's banishment and then the gaang shows up and throw Zuko's entire semblance of peace and contentment out the window! This whole fic is technically pre-slash but I liked the concept and story too much to not include it here lol
boys are more trouble than they're worth by lesbianspikespiegel, Rated T, 11,128 words, No Archive Warnings Apply: Some nice pretty fluffy and humorous Ba Sing Se Zukka! Getting to know each other, getting together, and the struggle of scrambling to hide your secret relationship from your friend group. Overall a very light-hearted and funny fic :D

Bakumomo meta on their progression!
rarepair etc aside, I feel like bkmm has a subtle fun thread of interactions and progress?
Bakugou’s regret/embarrassment with himself when he agreed with momo’s analysis that his destructive indoor attacks were foolish and that his behavior stemmed from a grudge against izuku was so good you guys.
Given momo’s position as the #1 recommended student and her conviction that working up from the bottom and cheering on your teammates will make you a top hero, that she is considered a standard of hero academic excellence. In recognizing that momo’s assessment was accurate in his stunned silence, we see just how self-reflective bakugou can be at his starting line.
Tumblr media
We also then get a fun continuation of momo’s position as a standard of excellence when she offers to tutor her classmates after it’s revealed she placed first academically. Hilariously, we see bakugou is also a class topper and get’s teased by kirishima that he and momo differ in virtue before bakugou exclaims he can be just as virtuous and offers to tutor kirishima. What a competitive nerd lol
Tumblr media
In “operation save izuku”, we see their first dialogue after combining their moves as a hero team to capture a villain and momo compliments bakugou on their success! he whips his head around and crankily corrects her on his hero name before she apologizes in her ever-so-polite but flustered professional manner.
it's just a goofy little moment showing their contrasting personalities while they work in tandem. they’re not quite there yet, but at this point momo knows bakugou’s intention to let go of his grudge in spearheading the mission to save izuku.
Tumblr media
Bakugou has worked hard up until this point and took it to heart that he’s held a grudge against izuku. Momo also worked hard to get through her insecurities and gain experience as a tactical leader. Bakugou has let go of his ego and apologized to izuku, and we see momo is the first to speak after his apology, remarking there’s still a long way to go. Obviously, she definitely also means logistically as well, but that’s where ururaka comes in to be the hero that saves izuku lol. but it’s neat that the first outsider that spoke about the not-so-secret elephant in the room witness bakugou’s apology to izuku and let go of his grudge, and note that there was still more progress to be made.
Tumblr media
I wanted to note that this part of bakugou’s apology where he says they need to earnestly work together sounds similar to momo’s convictions about becoming a top hero, but that’s a separate meta lol.
after izuku’s rescue, we get a moment where momo looks at bakugou fondly as jirou reassures the class that they’ll succeed.
Tumblr media
It feels NOW that bakugou and momo have finally earned being on speaking terms now that he has officially let go of his grudge, and they show just how on the same page they’ve been, to the point they are able to calmly riff off each other’s analyses of a situation to the class.
It’s also nice to note the momo feels comfortable enough to interject; they’re on equal footing!
Tumblr media
Bakugou further demonstrates how he values teamwork and calls out momo along with kaminari, aizawa and monoma as he doesn’t want their work of keeping the fortress operational to go to waste. Momo was mentioned last (lol shipping goggles i admit) before he trailed off to reflect on his journey and how he fundamentally disagrees with shigaraki’s beliefs before firing off a highly powerful, but meticulous dealt blast.
Tumblr media
While working down below, momo recognizes bakugou’s explosion, and we get to see kaminari reassure his team that bakugou is meticulous, echoing momo’s initial assessment of bakugou.
Tumblr media
i think it’s neat that they’ve each had their own hero’s journey and now they get to be on equal playing ground as teammates. honestly, payoff is kind of tricky given bnha’s huge cast and somewhat rushed plot, but i’m having fun in the sandbox lol. this rarepair is neat and has a lot of fun classical elements i enjoy.
i feel like momo got to be on her own hero’s journey and on the way she acknowledges bk and makes key decisions along the way. they are both acknowledged as strategists and the class looks up to them. omg also i’m just in love with bk being pared down by momo jirou and kaminari on the bus to usj, they’re just disgusted by him. just like oh wow this kid is cringey lol
i’m also just a fan of a guy acknowledging he needs to change and finally showing that he has, not just because she told him to
In any case, season 7 has some of the above bkmm moments, and it was nice seeing bakugou’s thoughts involving the UA fortress team!

Sci Fi/Noir/Indie Recs:
Sugar: A private eye must track down the daughter of a wealthy filmmaker, narrated through his wry, noir-obsessed, and truly romantic perspective.
Ohhhhhh myyyy gosh. I loved every moment and it felt like my brain was melting out of my ears. When will Apple make a bad sci fi show? It showed a beautiful balance of noir and modern, it was truly stunning to watch, and it made me bawl at the end. Colin Farrell is a gem and varied between the most darling man and the worst enemy to make.
Fast Color: In a world left in drought, the government pursues a woman whose seizures can cause earthquakes, while she flees from a power far stronger.
Gorgeous movie with excellent themes, it’s very emotional but I always love watching it. It’s one of those movies you can be really annoying about to all your friends who haven’t watched it.
After Yang: After a family’s robot shuts down, the father goes on a journey to repair it and discovers much more than he thought.
It’s an A24 film, so take a guess. It’s a wonderful movie, definitely a little weird and maybe not for everyone, but it’s such a good movie about adoption, family dynamics, and the value of life. I watched it at a very vulnerable time and I have to say, it made life seem much more worthwhile.
Person of Interest: An all-seeing machine can predict a person about to be involved in a violent crime, but is unable to determine if they’re victim or perpetrator. The machine’s creator and a retired CIA operative must attempt to prevent the crimes from happening in advance.
HELLO? The plot alone is just ridiculously clever and it’s soooooo…it’s sooooooo great. It starts out a little slow and there’s some flaws, but the characters and the plots throughout the show were just…true perfection. Peak sci fi crime.

@defeatistwriter i took the test! :)
Tumblr media
explanation about the types below! tagging anyone who wants to do it :)
This was fun because although I enjoy thinking about writing and creative process in general, I also find hard to define my own process? I move in different ways, depending on how my brain is at the moment I'm writing and what part of the story I'm at, idk. Hopefully I'm not the only one who is ''inconsistent'' with my own ''methods'' (if I have any, tbh).
''Methodological Plotters: These authors meticulously outline their stories, weaving intricate plots with careful detail and precision. Each twist and turn is carefully planned, leading to a satisfying and well-structured narrative. They excel in world-building and character development, crafting immersive experiences that captivate readers with their thoroughness and coherence.
Methodological Pantsers: Operating with a loose framework, these authors embark on their writing journeys with a general idea but allow their stories to evolve organically. They embrace spontaneity, often surprising even themselves with the directions their narratives take. Despite the lack of detailed planning, their stories remain compelling, driven by the sheer force of creativity and imagination.
Intuitive Plotters: With a deep understanding of story structure, these authors craft their narratives with a keen sense of purpose and direction. While they may not adhere strictly to outlines, their stories are intricately plotted with layers of meaning and symbolism. Each element serves a purpose, contributing to the overall coherence and resonance of the work.
Intuitive Pantsers: These authors trust in their instincts, diving into their writing with little premeditation. They rely on intuition and spontaneity, allowing the story to unfold naturally as they explore characters and themes. While their process may seem chaotic, their narratives possess a raw energy and authenticity that draw readers in. They are unafraid to take risks, often producing works that are bold, original, and deeply personal.''

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter to Star in ‘Waiting for Godot’ on Broadway
Tumblr media
They played slacker buddies in three “Bill & Ted” films, and next year they plan to reunite for Beckett’s classic tragicomedy.
By Michael Paulson
Aug. 1, 2024
Call it Bill and Ted’s Existentialist Adventure.
Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, the actors who incarnated a pair of slacker musicians for three “Bill & Ted” films, are planning to reunite for a Broadway revival of “Waiting for Godot.”
The production, planned for the fall of 2025, will be directed by Jamie Lloyd, one of the hottest directors of the moment, whose work is characterized by a spare aesthetic and an emphasis on psychological intensity.
Lloyd said that the project was Reeves’s idea, but that as soon as the actor approached him, “it was a no-brainer that this needed to be done.”
“Their instant chemistry and their shorthand and their friendship is going to be so valuable,” Lloyd said of Reeves and Winter in an interview. “This is a very deeply complex play, as we all know, but it’s also a very funny play, and they’re very witty people and their shared sense of humor in those movies and in real life is going to be very beneficial to the production.”
In “Godot,” Reeves will play Estragon and Winter will play Vladimir, who banter and bicker while waiting for a mysterious figure who never arrives. “Those characters take solace in their companionship as they stumble toward the void,” Lloyd said, adding, “that’s going to be the central thesis of the production, with Keanu and Alex’s own friendship.”
“Waiting for Godot,” by the Irish playwright Samuel Beckett, was first staged in French in 1953 and then in English in 1955. The play was first performed on Broadway in 1956, and has been revived there three times since, most recently in 2013 with Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart.
Reeves, the prolific film star of the “Matrix” and “John Wick” series, will be making his Broadway debut with “Godot.” He likes a challenge: In 1995, he played Hamlet in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Winter, who writes and directs in addition to acting, appeared on Broadway twice in the 1970s, when he was a teenager, in musical revivals of “The King and I” and “Peter Pan.”
The two first worked together in 1989 in “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.” A second film, “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey,” arrived in 1991, and a third, “Bill & Ted Face the Music,” in 2020.
Lloyd, based in London, has become a regular presence in New York. Last year he directed a revival of “A Doll’s House” starring Jessica Chastain, and this fall he will direct a revival of “Sunset Boulevard” starring Nicole Scherzinger.
The “Waiting for Godot” revival is being produced by Lloyd’s production company, as well as ATG Productions, Bad Robot Live (J.J. Abrams’s company) and Gavin Kalin Productions. ATG is a British theater company that has a long relationship with Lloyd and operates seven Broadway theaters; the production said that “Godot” would be staged in one of those ATG theaters.

Motivations
As part of a mild ongoing attempt to show me that Ursula le Guin might be likeable, a friend sent me a quote of hers which he found so: in which she mocks Freud for saying that artists' work is motivated by desire for "honour, power, riches, fame and the love of women". Discussing that isn't the point of this post (especially since my discussing turned into mostly rehashing Mary Renault's depiction of the motivations of the poet Simonides, since I'd re-read it recently and was feeling keen, and may have wound up unvirtuously with a suggestion that Mary Renault wrote better prose than Ursula le Guin and almost certainly knew the love of far more women).
The point of this post is just that the wording of the Freud quote naturally brought to mind the Vorkosigan elephant anecdote. My friend hadn't heard it before, and telling it made me feel warm about it anew, so I wanted to retell it here; why not? This is a reasonable place for praising authors, and I have the impression I'm more likely to run into another Bujold fan than a Renault fan.
(The following copied from a message to my friend. It's ages since I read the books; please excuse any wrong details.)
In one of Bujold's books Simon Illyan recounts how he tried to have one of his spies bribe an official of another government. What the official turned out to want - what would really move his heart with pleasure and make him open to co-operation - was an elephant. A real live elephant. He'd heard of them but of course never been close to one. None of these people live on Earth! So Illyan, wondering all the time if it was just a run-around, obtained...? in some way...? an elephant from Earth (just one, poor thing) and arranged for it to take a multi-leg journey by spaceship, through goodness knows what quarantines (poor thing). And the official was delighted! It hadn't been a passing whim; he really had a long-standing feeling that a kind of animal he'd never seen in the flesh was very cool, and found it thrilling to meet one (and "kept it in the embassy grounds", which we hope were large and lush). Illyan reflects on "the motivations of men: money, power, sex - and elephants".
It's a moment of a quality or idea I like very much in Bujold's stories, something expansive and humorous and humane: nearly everyone has standard, sordid desires; people are awful and brutal and also tragically just need a lot of things; but there are these looks-aside from the myopic pursuit of standard needs, people's hearts go out mysteriously and settle on strange things, or on a central thing one might call Excellence; people love beings that aren't any use to them; beauty slips in among the other needs, that happens sometimes.

Exploring the Intricacies of the Respiratory System 🫁💨
Welcome to my Tumblr blog, where we embark on an exciting journey through the intricate world of human anatomy and physiology. Today, we're focusing our lens on the respiratory system – a wondrous network of organs and tissues that orchestrates the exchange of gases essential for our survival. So, fasten your seatbelts as we venture into the fascinating realm of respiration!
Anatomy of the Respiratory System: A Symphony of Structures
At its core, the respiratory system consists of a highly organized ensemble of organs and structures working together seamlessly. This symphony of components includes the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and, of course, the lungs. Each of these elements has a crucial role to play in the intricate process of breathing, ensuring our bodies receive a constant supply of life-sustaining oxygen while effectively eliminating carbon dioxide.
The Alveoli: Tiny Powerhouses of Gas Exchange
Now, let's zoom in on the alveoli, the star players in the respiratory system's performance. These microscopic air sacs, nestled deep within the lungs, are where the real magic happens. Through the process of diffusion, oxygen from inhaled air enters the bloodstream, while carbon dioxide, a waste product of metabolism, is expelled from the blood into the alveoli to be exhaled. It's here, at this cellular level, that the respiratory system's vital exchange takes place.
Breathing Mechanics: The Art of Inhalation and Exhalation
But how does it all come together? Breathing, a seemingly simple act, is a complex process guided by the contraction and relaxation of specialized muscles, primarily the diaphragm and intercostal muscles. These muscular movements manipulate the volume of the thoracic cavity, creating changes in pressure that facilitate the flow of air in and out of the lungs. Understanding the mechanics of breathing is fundamental to comprehending various respiratory disorders and their potential treatments.
Regulation of Respiration: A Symphony Conducted by the Brain
The respiratory system doesn't operate in isolation; it's under the watchful eye of our central nervous system. The medulla and pons, two regions of the brainstem, serve as the conductors in this symphony of breath. They continuously monitor factors like blood pH, carbon dioxide levels, and oxygen levels, adjusting our breathing rate and depth to maintain the delicate balance required for optimal body function.
Recommended Resources to Dive Deeper:

Strengths and weaknesses of Crimson Mirror?
I'm not sure if you're referring to the Circle itself or the 3-episode series but I'm going to answer based on the latter. I think the strengths are that the plot was extremely well-crafted - I was having a discussion with @captainofthetidesbreath who mentioned the "but and therefore" rule of screenwriting, ie, a good plot should always have elements that are brought upon by introduced complications (but) or clear consequences/actions driven by what has already happened (therefore) - and the circle itself does feel like people who have worked together for a time and there is an opportunity for some excellent conversations between them.
I think the main weakness for me is that the final battle is extremely cool, but the premise requires it move very slowly and in a TTRPG (and especially one that doesn't have a combat mode) this is tricky. It is a good story but this is perhaps not the ideal medium; the vibes are great but it can be hard to follow. Honestly, had that final encounter been tighter, I think this circle would have tied Needle and Thread for me, and that's a tall order.
The two strongest Candela series for me are Needle and Thread and Crimson Mirror and while I think you can have a good show that doesn't follow this pattern, I also think it's really suited for the three-episode horror story structure:
In medias res opening (strong opportunity to establish character, and how this circle operates. I also think it is just outright better to have a pre-existing circle because 3 episodes isn't very long; you only have so much time and showing a circle coming together takes up half of one of your three episodes).
Assignment given immediately following, tied to a personal connection. End of Episode 1.
Downtime in which the party can talk, establish who they are in the world more clearly and who they are to each other
Assignment given (or de facto acquired, in the case of Needle and Thread) that is related to the first
Assignment doesn't go terribly well (might be successful, but leaves the party in rough shape). End of episode 2.
Here's where they diverge a bit, but essentially, either they continue the second assignment or they take on a third tied to the previous, which involves a perilous journey; that is your episode 3.
The thing about the above, notably, is that it puts the power entirely into the GM's hands and doesn't rely your party to make specific decisions; it's somewhat player-agnostic while still granting them a lot of agency. The But/Therefore rule is crucial in TTRPGs especially since you are relying on players to react in a way that lets you hit the ball back; you cannot GM with "and then" elements because players will either assume there's a deeper meaning or they will feel like they're simply being pushed around.
I also think the fact that both had an element of "the worst horror is some of your circle turning on you" was pretty strong for me but that might be a personal preference.
