Documentarian Joshua Oppenheimer’s first narrative feature, The End, is an outlandish, post-apocalyptic musical that stars Michael Shannon as Father, an energy scion at the helm of an elite family of survivors, still living amongst their treasured possessions (just now in an underground bunker). Grappling with guilt, parenthood, and a stranger poking around outside, Shannon puts his permanent expression of bewilderment to good use, whilst singing to the tune of the world’s end. The role probably couldn’t have been a better fit for the beloved Southern actor, an eccentric who’s spent his life deeply immersed in music, and a permanent state of anxiety about climate change. “I try to pick things that are provocative and make people consider our common trials and tribulations, because I know that I’m not going to be the one that comes up with the molecule that replaces the atmosphere or somehow gets greenhouse gases to disappear,” he told his friend and former co-star Austin Butler on a call just before the new year. “The only thing I can really do is, through my work, try to keep these concerns at the forefront.” In conversation, the two went deep on Shannon’s eternal love of jazz, coming up in Chicago’s “spontaneous theatre” scene, and whether or not he’ll one day host Saturday Night Live.
———
MICHAEL SHANNON: Hey, man.
AUSTIN BUTLER: Hey.
SHANNON: Where are you at?
BUTLER: I’m in Los Angeles. Are you in New York?
SHANNON: Yeah, I’m in New York. I’m just home for the holidays, taking it easy.
BUTLER: That’s nice. How lovely.
SHANNON: Are you working?
BUTLER: I just finished working in New York, actually. I was working on a Darren Aronofsky film, so I just got back to Los Angeles about two weeks ago.
SHANNON: Oh, wow. Cool. What were you doing with him?
BUTLER: We’re doing this movie that’s based on a novel called Caught Stealing. It’s basically a thriller that takes place in the ’90s in New York.
SHANNON: Okay.
BUTLER: Yeah. I think the last time you and I saw each other was in New York when we saw Jodie Comer’s play, Prima Facie.
SHANNON: Oh, right. Was that before or after Godot?
BUTLER: Oh, that must have been before, because the next thing I was going to say is, I don’t know if I got to tell you how brilliant you were in Waiting for Godot.
SHANNON: Oh, thank you. I know you came, but I don’t think we got to visit afterwards.
BUTLER: You and Paul both were just extraordinary. It was a work of creative, comedic, and dramatic genius.
SHANNON: Oh, thank you, Austin. Thank you for coming.

BUTLER: I thought about it for weeks and weeks after. It really stuck with me as one of my favorite performances I’ve seen in a long time. But I’m bummed I never got to see you in Bug or Killer Joe or these performances that have gone down in history.
SHANNON: Yeah, that was a while ago. Somebody just was talking about Killer Joe last night, but that was back in ’98.
BUTLER: Well, I know you’ve probably been answering the same questions over and over, so I wanted to do this differently today. Maybe you want to talk about music a little bit?
SHANNON: Oh, okay. I’m up for that.
BUTLER: I texted Jeff Nichols and Paul Sparks and I said, “Peel back the layers of Mike Shannon for me a little bit.” I said, “What questions would you have for him?” And one thing Paul Sparks told me is how much you love jazz.
SHANNON: I do. I mean, I love all genres of music, but jazz is probably at the tip-top for me, and I love being here in New York City and getting to go to the Village Vanguard. And I love the fact that every time I try to get tickets there, it’s sold out, which means that people are still going and people still care about that music.
BUTLER: I was just having a conversation with a buddy the other day who’s going to be opening a jazz bar in London, and he was saying that he noticed that in a lot of these jazz places, you can’t have conversations now. It’s very much a performance, and he said, “But jazz is one of those forms of music that is actually the most conversational.” And it started making me think, “Well, if you were having a great conversation, what would be some of the best jazz albums to have on?”
SHANNON: Well, clubs now have these no conversation policies, which I understand because they’re concentrating pretty hard and trying to come up with a miracle, basically. I can’t imagine there was less respect back then, but I guess it wasn’t as sanctified as it seems to be nowadays. But if you listen to a lot of old live records you hear conversations on them. It always cracks me up when I hear these old records that are just legendary masterpiece performances and people are just sitting there shooting the shit. But there’s so many records I could think of. A lot of times when I’m doing acting stuff, I find music to inspire me based on whatever it is I’m doing.
BUTLER: Do you play jazz at all? Because I know you sing.
SHANNON: Yeah, I was in a jazz band when I was in high school. I played the bass, but that was just for a couple of years.
BUTLER: Okay. And then you play guitar as well, right?
SHANNON: Yeah, but I never studied it formally. I feel like every actor plays a damn guitar.
BUTLER: It’s an easy thing to bring around with you. I haven’t been on this side of the interview process, getting to interview somebody else, even though this just feels like having a conversation, but it meant that I got to spend the last week going on a deep dive of Michael Shanon and [Shannon’s band] Corporal–
SHANNON: Oh, boy.

You toured with him last year, right? Doing R.E.M.?
SHANNON: Yeah. Last year was the 40th anniversary of R.E.M.’s album Murmur, and it was the 40th anniversary of this club in Chicago called Metro, and the first show at Metro was R.E.M., so we put together this performance to commemorate the 40th anniversary of everything and it went over pretty good. And then Jason’s agent was there and he said, “You guys should tour this.” And we did. So now we’re touring this year because it’s the 40th anniversary of Fables of the Reconstruction.

BUTLER: What time of year are you doing that?
SHANNON: Our first show is on Valentine’s Day of 2025. We’ll be at Pappy and Harriets in Joshua Tree.
BUTLER: Oh, yeah. I just drove by there the other day.
SHANNON: And the next night we’ll be at the Bellwether in L.A., and it goes a month from Valentine’s Day.
BUTLER: Well, I’ve got to come to one of those shows. Maybe I’ll drive out to Joshua Tree and see you guys.
SHANNON: I hear that place is cool. I’ve never been there.
BUTLER: I’m so excited to finally get to see you on stage as a rock star.
SHANNON: I mean, I’m borrowing a lot, but it tickles me because all the members of the band have seen us do the show and a few of them have actually gotten up and played with us. They seem to get a kick out of it, so it’s cool.
BUTLER: Two last things, and then I’ll let you go.
SHANNON: Okay.
BUTLER: Jeff told me that your improv comedy is unparalleled.
SHANNON: Oh, really?
BUTLER: Yeah. He heard a legend that there was an improv duo in New York and that when one would get sick, they could call you and you could fill in for either of them. And he says his films are so precisely scripted that he doesn’t often get to see you improv in that way. His life’s dream is to have you host Saturday Night Live. Would you like to?
SHANNON: They have never asked me, Austin.
BUTLER: They’ve got to.
SHANNON: They’ve never asked me once.
BUTLER: Really? Would you want to do it?
SHANNON: I mean, at this point, I’m like, there’s a statute of limitations, man. If I did do it, I’d have to bitch about how long it took for them to ask me to do it. But yeah, I’d do it. I mean, I know so many people that have been on that show, and I came up acting in Chicago. My theater that I’m a member of is a block away from Second City, and we all used to go to the same bar, all them improv folks.
BUTLER: Man, I would love to go see that.

decades. When I was a teenager, I was canvassing for this Public Interest Relations Group and I would go door to door asking people, “Don’t you want clean air and clean water and all these things?” Of course, I was asking for money, which is always irritating, but my heart was in the right place, and so many doors just slammed in my face. I was like, “How do people not care about this?” It confounded me. So a lot of the work I’ve done has been like, “Hey everybody, think about this.” I try to pick things that are provocative and make people consider our common trials and tribulations, because I know that I’m not going to be the one that comes up with the molecule that replaces the atmosphere or somehow gets greenhouse gases to disappear. That’s not me. I could go back to school tomorrow and study for 20 years and I’m not going to come up with anything that’s going to help a damn lick. The only thing I can really do is, through my work, try to keep these concerns at the forefront. Have you ever felt that way, or does art just ask more questions? I don’t know.
BUTLER: I don’t know. All I can know is my own experience of it. And I felt it watching your movie, where it tills the soil and it overturns something in my mind and in my heart and makes me think about things a little differently. That makes a difference in my life. And I imagine it makes a difference in the lives of many, many others.

SHANNON: But also, I don’t want to be a giant drag all the time. It’s nice when you excite people, or uplift them.
BUTLER: Well, you do it all, man. It’s been such a joy this last week to explore these different things that I never had seen, from you performing Iggy Pop to you reading that sorority letter. That thing cracked me up. I laughed so hard. You’re an inspiration to all the actors that I look up to, and you’re an inspiration to me, and you’re really putting good stuff out in the world. So, I appreciate you.
SHANNON: That is the damn sweetest thing I ever heard. Thank you, Austin.
BUTLER: Absolutely. I look forward to getting to talk and hang more.
SHANNON: All right, brother. Happy holidays.

What if poly MC disappears for a while and the brothers can't find them only for MC to come back with 8 concert tickets because their favorite singer/band from the human world is having a concert and MC just wanted to surprise the brothers by inviting them to watch the performance together
They’d wanna be so mad but your demons are mostly just relieved XD
You just walk into the living room and were practically tackled to the ground before you could even say hello, “You’re back!!” “Where have you been?!” “Why were you gone for two days?” “We’ve been worried!” “And that damn Barbatos wouldn’t tell us were ya went!!” “All he’d say was that ‘MC will be back when they’ve concluded their business.’ like talk about keeping it a secret lolol”
Barbatos let you go back and forth for your little surprise-
“You have to admit Barbatos is good at keeping secrets.” “He still could have told us where MC was!!” “Wait, we still haven’t asked!?” “Oh, right…..” “I’m glad you’re back darling. But where the hell were you?”
You pull away from their hug and reach into your pocket pulling out 8 tickets to your favorite *band / singer / whatever* and holding them out for the demons to see, “I heard that (whatever) was having a show!! So I went to get us tickets before they all sold out!!”
“That’s why ya disappeared for two days?!?” “Fair, I’d do the same.” “What?…” “You’d leave your family worried that you’ve been kidnapped over some tickets!?” “Huh!? You guys knew I was fine! Barbatos told you so, it’s not my fault you panic whenever I’m out of sight.” “We have good reason for that. You’re a walking disaster 98% of the time.”
“Hey I am not! That’s you guys, you’d be dead meat without me around.” “MC, just wanted to do something fun…even if it worried us, I still wanna go!” Beel always being the voice of reason in my post shjajaj
“Well obviously we gotta go!” “Yea! It’s one of MC’s favorites after all!” “A trip to the human world…sounds fun!”
Asmo gasps pulling you back into his arms “I’ve got nothing to wear!? MC, we’re going shopping!!”
“Asmo are you really worried about your wardrobe now?” “Of course! We have to look our best!” Lucifer nods “Asmo, has a point. We should all have appropriate outfits for the occasion.” “All on Lucifer’s tab! You’re so kind big bro!!” “I said nothing of the sort Mammon! Get back here!-“ ‘n Mammon’s already running off to buy a new outfit (or 10) with Lucifer storming after him-
“Nice to see nothing changed!”

40 Minutes Of Mayhem: The Fiery Riot That Killed A Cultural Movement Forever
Tumblr media
Melissa Sartore
Updated April 22, 2024
On July 12, 1979, the term "disco inferno" took on a whole new meaning. As the "disco '70s" drew to a close, Chicago radio DJ Steve Dahl decided to speed up the process by promoting a Demolition Disco Night in between games at a White Sox double-header at Comiskey Park. He invited the listeners of his popular radio show to come out to the game and set some records on fire, and tens of thousands showed up to burn a farewell to disco.
But during the event, things got seriously out of hand; after a sluggish baseball season, the stadium hadn't seen crowds like this for quite some time. Riots, crazed fans, and crowd rushes can notoriously break out quickly at sporting events, and Comiskey Park Disco Demolition Night was a prime example of this. By the end of the night, disco records were in flames, fans were looting the stadium, and the White Sox had to forfeit their second game. Disco itself never quite recovered.
Tumblr media
Steve Dahl Hated Disco And Wasn't Shy About Saying It
In 1979, Steve Dahl got fired from a Chicago radio station that changed from rock to all-disco. He wasn't very happy about this, since he was a rock-heavy DJ, but he got a job DJing at WLUP. Bitter about his loss, Dahl found an anti-disco cohort in new colleague/DJ Garry Meier, and the pair found an enthusiastic audience for fellow disco-haters. Together, they kicked off an idea for a public disco demolition event.
Tumblr media
The White Sox Approached Dahl About Bringing His Pyro Party To The Stadium
The White Sox were slated to play the Detroit Tigers on July 12, a make-up double-header from games that had been rained out earlier in the season. The team already had a promotion on the books, one geared to toward teenagers. When Mike Veeck, son of White Sox owner Bill Veeck and White Sox promotions promoter got wind of a radio DJ blowing up disco records, he contacted the radio station to see if he would do it at the stadium.
The White Sox were struggling and attendance was down, so Veeck and Jeff Schwartz, WLUP sales manager, met to discuss the possibility of an event. Dahl had already mentioned he would be blowing up records at a local mall, so Veeck simply suggested Dahl relocate to the stadium.
Tumblr media
Dahl's Disco-Hating Fans Were Known As The Insane Coho Lips
In his campaign against disco, Dahl and his co-host, Garry Meier, created an army called the Insane Coho Lips. These were their devoted listeners and disco-hating followers and the ones the DJs invited to show up at Comiskey Park on July 12. Cohos, as they were known, claimed disco music represented elitism and consisted of purely vapid sounds. They alleged rock stars like Rod Stewart had sold out and shifted to more disco-oriented songs with tunes like "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" ruining music in the process.
At Dahl's behest, the Cohos descended upon Comiskey Park to bring disco down. They hung up "Disco sucks!" banners, and drank a lot of beer, ready to protest against the enemy.
Tumblr media
It Took Some Convincing To Get Dahl To Host The Event At Comiskey Park
Dahl wanted to blow up records but the thought of bringing a few thousand vinyls to Comiskey Park didn't seem very appealing. At the time, the White Sox were only averaging about 18,000 fans per game and an extra 5,000 wouldn't fill enough seats to make the event look like much of a success, in Dahl's opinion.
Tumblr media
Disco Demolition Night Had An Admission Charge Of $.98 And A Disco Record
Dahl's radio station, WLUP, was 97.9 on the radio dial so it was decided that Disco Demolition Night would cost $.98 for attendees, as long as they had a disco record, too. The White Sox hoped that their Teen Night promotion combined with cheap tickets, Dahl's following, and general animosity toward disco would pack in a big crowd.
Tumblr media
More Than 60,000 Fans Showed Up To The Game And Thousand More Jammed Up The Highways
The exact attendance of the game is in question - it was reported to be anywhere from 50,000 to more than 75,000 people crowded into the 52,000-seat stadium, but either way, Comiskey Park was packed with fans. Countless more tried to get into the game and some attempted to scale the wall to get in without paying. Thousands more tried to get to the stadium, tying up traffic on the Dan Ryan Expressway for hours.
Tumblr media
On The Day Of The Game, Dahl Wore A Fatigues And An Army Helmet
The first game started at 6 pm. The White Sox lost but had another chance to beat the Tigers in game two of the scheduled double header. In between games, however, disco was going to meet its destruction. A little before 9 pm, Dahl, Meier, and radio "Loop Rock Girl" Lorelei Shark drove out onto the field in a Jeep. Dahl was wearing military fatigues and a helmet in anticipation of blowing up a box of disco records that had been brought out onto the field. Dahl started chanting "Disco sucks!" and the crowd joined in, reportedly shaking the rafters.
Tumblr media
The Box Of Records Went Up In Flames And Fans Threw Records Around The Stadium
Dahl blew up the box of records and pandemonium broke out.  The explosion itself, which took place near the center field wall, blew flames 200 feet in the air according to some, only 30 feet by other accounts.  Smoke was everywhere and pieces of vinyl littered the field. As soon as the explosion took place, the crowds started to descend onto the field, still chanting "Disco sucks!"
Fans Stormed The Field, Stealing Bases, Bats, And Anything Else They Could Find
An estimated 5,000 to 7,000 fans ran onto the field at Comiskey Park in a mad rush. The fans who didn't get down to the field began throwing their disco records haphazardly in the air.  White Sox pitcher Ken Kravec, who was warming up for the second game, later said he remembered shoes and records flying by his head. On the field, the crowd started pulling up bases, looting the dugouts, digging up grass, tearing down batting cages, and lighting fires.
The Jeep carrying Dahl, Meier, and Shark made its way off of the field. They were whisked away by security and taken back to the press room to escape the chaos. Paul Natkin, a photographer for the disco demolition, recalled hanging on to the hood of the Jeep as the driver sped away trying to avoid the crowd.
Tumblr media
The Stadium Was So Damaged That The White Sox Had To Forfeit The Second Game
The damage to Comiskey Park was so severe that the second game couldn't go on. After an hour and 16 minute delay, the umpire Dave Phillips declared the field "unplayable." The White Sox had to forfeit, losing both games essentially. The forfeit on July 12, 1979 was the last one in the American League to date.
Almost 40 People Were Arrested For Destruction Of Property
Despite pleas by the game announcers to return to their seats, rioting fans continued to wreak havoc on the field. Dahl, Meier, and White Sox announcer Harry Carey all tried but nothing worked. Harry Carey hollered out "Can you hear me out there? OK! To make this an absolutely perfect evening, let's say we all regain our seats, so we can play baseball again!" and even started singing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame."
The Chicago police were called and began making arrests. Most of the crowd ran off when the cops arrive, but in the immediate aftermath of Disco Demolition Night, 39 people were arrested for destruction of property. There were only a few minor injuries.
Tumblr media
The Night Was Deemed Both A Disaster And A Triumph
With the rioting of the fans, the forfeiture of the game, and the destruction to Comiskey Park, the media decreed the disco demolition event a "mob scene." However, from the perspective of the people in the seats — and Steve Dahl himself — it was a wild success. The Veecks wanted to bring people to the Park and they did. Not everyone got in, which was another aspect of its success, but Disco Demolition Night definitely made a mark on baseball and music.
Tumblr media
Dahl Was Criticized For Being Homophobic And Racist In His Attacks On Disco
Because disco was had its origins in Latino, black, and gay communities, Dahl's actions were seen as an exercise in homophobia and racism. The disco "lifestyle" was the antithesis to rock music - white leisure suits and gold chains versus jeans and tee-shirts - and Dahl's attack was perceived as a social statement as much as a musical preference. According to Gloria Gaynor, rock n' roll promised egalitarianism... but disco actually had it. To her, "disco never got credit for being the first and only music ever to transcend all nationalities, race, creed, color, and age groups."
Dahl denies any homophobic or racist agenda and, in his own words, is "worn out from defending myself as a racist homophobe for fronting Disco Demolition."
Tumblr media
Dahl's Attack On Disco May Have Helped Kill The Whole Musical Movement
When Disco Demolition Night took place, disco was dominating the charts. Songs by Gloria Gaynor, the Bee Gees, and Donna Summer were number one hits during the first part of 1979. The Bee Gees had their last number one hit, "Love You Inside Out," on July 9th, just three days before the event. Shortly after Disco Demolition Night, there was a shift in music. By August and September 1979, New Wave hits by groups like the The Knack emerged and began to take over the airwaves. Some argue that New Wave was heavily influenced by disco while others see the attack on disco as a positive moment for the genre. In Chicago, disco continued on in underground clubs and was reworked by synthesizers, ultimately creating house music.

Barbenheimer: Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Moviegoing Again
When I first heard that Greta Gerwig's Barbie and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer were being released on the same day - July 21, 2023 - I didn't think much of it. After all, wildly disparate movies have been released on the same date before, and in an era before MCU/Disney dominated theaters, cineplexes had a variety of films that catered to many different audiences. The smash superhero sequel The Dark Knight and the ABBA-inspired musical comedy Mamma Mia! were both released on July 18, 2008, but social media was much less of a thing back then. (I've never seen Mamma Mia!, but my Dad and I did see TDK opening weekend.) Honestly? Initially, I didn't think people were really going to see both films on the same day, I thought people were joking. Boy was I wrong.
On their own, both films would have been hits with built-in audiences (love him or hate him, Nolan sure has dedicated fans). But by July 2023, the hype around the Barbenheimer phenomenon had gone nuclear. There were memes, T-shirts, and people bought tickets to see both movies in theaters on the same day, or at least the same weekend. The two have little in common, besides being high-profile studio films starring non-American actors as very American subjects, but that didn't matter.
On opening weekend, my friend and I saw a 70mm print of Oppenheimer on Saturday and a sold-out screening of Barbie on Sunday at the Village East theater in Manhattan, with a day break in-between. We had initially only planned to see the former, but even I was swept up by Barbie mania (I also enjoyed Gerwig's two previous films). There was an energy at the movie theater that I had not felt in a very long time outside of repertory cinema - people were genuinely excited to be there. When I was in line for the bathroom, a woman in front of me joked that you could tell who was there to see which movie. Lots of people in pink, Barbies and Kens abound, and even a few men (and one woman) dressed like J. Robert Oppenheimer, father of the atomic bomb. I did not dress up and I don't care much for the color pink, but it was still fun! It was a record-breaking box office weekend for both films - one a fantasy comedy about the world's most famous doll, the other a 3-hour doomy historical drama showing in premium large formats including IMAX. After a decade and a half of Marvel fare dominating theaters, this was a game-changer. Were superhero movies in their early '90s hair metal era?
I worked at a few movie theaters in suburban New Jersey in the 2000s, and this felt like a return to an era when word of mouth reigned supreme and people got dressed up for midnight screenings (people did this at a screening for one of the Harry Potter films, no lie). The hype also reminded me a bit of Titanic, which dominated the box office in 1997-98 when I was in 8th grade and everyone talked about it (weirdly enough, I did not see it until it was in a second run theater for some reason). But three years after the beginning of the pandemic, I was ready to go back to the movies - one of my favorite pastimes. I had seen a few films in theaters since 2022, once I was fully vaccinated and boosted, but this felt like a new beginning.
I enjoyed both movies and have now seen them twice (including an IMAX 70mm screening of Oppenheimer - if you have the opportunity to see it in this format, do it!). Barbie is charming and fun, with eye-popping production design and costumes and nods to directors like Jacques Demy. Margot Robbie (bringing humanity to a plastic doll) and Ryan Gosling are fantastic, and the film is a genuine crowd-pleaser. Oppenheimer is an intense, well-crafted drama with a few jaw-dropping sequences and a great, controlled performance by Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer and a stacked cast. The editing by Jennifer Lame is phenomenal, and this might be the best work of Nolan's career. To date, Barbie has crossed the billion dollar mark worldwide, and Oppenheimer has made over $500 million globally - a huge deal for an R-rated talky period piece. Is this the beginning of better, more diverse movies in multiplexes across the world? Or just a weird fluke? Possibly the latter, but we'll see.
That said, the films aren't for everyone. I know people who have seen Barbie but have no interest in Oppenheimer, and that's okay! And if you don't care about either, I would recommend the documentary The Day After Trinity followed by Todd Haynes' Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story as an alternative, at-home Barbenheimer. It's just nice to see people excited about going to the movies again.

Mizrahi Family History
Each generation of the Mizrahi legacy has consisted of two major events. These events may be referred to in future generations as common knowledge. Below are the events and how they effected that generation as well as the relevant years.
Tumblr media
Antique Generation (Uriah):
The Hoffman Purchase (1902) - Within a 3 year period Uriah Mizrahi's nephew was disowned (1986), His brother, mother and sister-in-law all died (97-98) and his nephew gave up his inheritance (1899). leaving him to inherit the Mizrahi Farm. Later he purchased the Hoffman land from his brother-in-law leaving him with sole ownership of Old New Henford (then Little Henford)
Electricity and Indoor Plumbing - Throughout the early 1900's the family led the charge in technology and began the breaking down of some gender roles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Burnished Generation (Daniel and David):
Worlds War I (1918-19)- Uriah had 3 sons all of which fought in Worlds War I along with their uncle Imram. Only David returned. Considering Daniel had been abusive to his wife whom David also loved this turned out to be the best result.
Juice Prohibition (1924-26) - After the war juice was prohibited in Henford and David worked for a time as an illegal bartender at a speakeasy that his brother-in-law ran.
Tumblr media
Classic Generation (Hezekiah)
Economic Depression (1930's) - During the Depression, Hezekiah moved to Evergreen Harbor where he and his cousin were homeless for the majority of a decade. This was a signifant time in the Mizrahi history as it was during this time he met his wife Anabelle and because of the economic uncertainty was unaware that he had a daughter living in an orphanage until she was 8 years old.
Worlds War II (1941-44) - While the men fought in the war the woman settled down in Evergreen Harbor during which time Hezekiah's lost daughter Sofia was brought back from the orphanage and his cousin started the Greenburg Rehibilitation Center for helping women become independent.

Dandy Generation (Stefan and Sofia):
Sexual Revolution (1951-53) - In an attempt at indepence, Sofia ran away from home and sold herself to a pimp. Due to her hardships she learned to value and fight for herself, a lesson she passed down to her daughter and granddaughter.
Sulani War (1962-64) - Sofia's twin brother Stefan was drafted and fought in the Sulani war. When he returned home to find the man he loved had also been drafted they used their sexuality as their ticket out of fighting despite the black mark it placed on them.

Expressionist Generation (Ava):
Women's Rights (1976-79) - Living in San Sequoia which was filled with archaic pressures, Ava fought to find balance between the old practices of her mother-in-law and other San Seq residents and the new female empowerment passed onto her from her mother.
Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n Roll (1979-81) - Ava practiced her new empowerment by having an affair and an abortion while her husband fell into a life of drugs and lost his job. A sequence that almost cost them their marriage.

The Queen of Pop’s return to touring was a thunderous success this morning, with 23 concerts added to the 37 dates already announced for Madonnas The Celebration Tour thanks to massive fan demand.
Only a handful of tickets are still available — the tour is 98% sold out — after fans bought up 600,000 tickets in a matter of hours to see Madonna’s retrospective run in North America and Europe. Additional shows were added today in Los Angeles, Montreal, Boston and beyond to meet the demand.

If I Told You I Loved You
Pairing: Anthony x Reader
Summary: Anthony accidentally says “I love you” on the phone to Y/N and then hangs up on her.
Word Count: 1k
I was currently sitting in my New York apartment playing with my dog. “Lily, bring the ball back” I pleaded with my Dalmatian. She was a puppy and didn’t quite understand the concept of fetch.
Then my phone started vibrating in my pocket. I grabbed my phone and saw that Anthony was calling me, he was my best friend so it wasn’t out of the ordinary for him to call me. “Alright Lily, let’s take a break” I told her and she displayed no response to what I had said. I giggled to myself, watching her play with the ball.
I answered the phone and said “Hey Anthony what's up?”. “Yo, Y/N! How’re you doing?” He asked. “I’m good, how are you?” I told him. “I’m pretty good, I was calling you because I got us tickets to the premiere of that movie you’ve been raving about. I was wondering if you wanted to go” He asked me.
“You got tickets?” I asked, excitedly. “Yeah, were you listening?” He joked. “Oh my god, you’re actually serious? Yes yes of course I want to go. How did you get tickets? They’ve been sold out for months” I asked him, shocked.
“I may have pulled a few strings. But you don’t have to worry about that, you just have to be ready by seven tonight” he told me, I could tell he was smiling, I could hear it in his voice. “Oh my god Anthony, you are the absolute best” I told him. “Oh come on, we’ve known that for years. I’ve always been the best” he joked.
“Normally I would fight you on that, but I’ll give it to you today. I still can’t believe it, I am so exited” I told him, giddily. “Well that’s good, I was hoping you’d be excited. I know that this movie is all you’ve been talking about for weeks” he told me.
“You did this all for me?” I asked him. “Yeah you’re my best friend. I'd do anything for you” he told me, sweetly. “Well I would do the same for you, thank you Ant. This means the world to me” I thanked him.
“Always, anyway I’ll pick you up at seven, okay?” He told me. “Alright sounds like a deal. Bye Anthony” I said, wrapping up the conversation. “Bye Y/N, I love you” I heard Anthony said and I froze. “Ant?” I asked, but he had already hung up.
So many questions started racing through my head. Did he mean to say it? Was it simply a habit and it was an accident? If he really meant it, did he just mean it in a friendly way?
I had always had a thing for Anthony, but I had tried to ignore it. I had figured that he wouldn’t feel the same, and I didn’t want to ruin our friendship.
I called Anthony back and it rang once and I could tell he declined the call because it went to voicemail. So, he clearly hadn’t meant to say it, but did that mean it was true or not?
I slipped on my shoes and started to walk to Anthony’s apartment. Luckily, Anthony and I only lived a few blocks away from each other. I made it up all the stairs and I was standing in front of his door.
I took a deep breath and then knocked on the door. Anthony opened the door and I could see his face drop when he realized it was me. “Y/N” he said, slowly. “Can I come in?” I asked him. He gave me a small smile and then opened the door for me to come inside.
We both walked over to his couch and sat down. “So, do you want to talk about it?” I asked him, hesitantly. “Talk about what?” He asked, I could tell he was pretending. “Listen, if you didn’t mean to say it and it was just an accident, just tell me and we can move on. It’s not a big deal” I told him, reassuringly.
“But I meant it” he said, under his breath. I almost hadn’t heard him. “Then why did you hang up so fast if it wasn’t an accident?” I asked him. “Just because I meant it, doesn’t mean I meant to say it” he told me.
“Come on Ant, I’m your best friend. You can tell me anything” I said, placing my hand on top of his. “Yeah, but if I told you I loved you, you wouldn’t want to be friends anymore” he explained. “What if I told you I loved you too?” I asked him, smirking.
“Are you kidding?” He asked, smiling. I smiled back at him and leaned in to kiss him. I stopped just before our lips met, “is this okay?” I asked him. “It’s more than okay” he said, smirking.
I connected our lips and he pulled me into his lap so I was straddling him. I put my hands behind his neck and played with his hair. He was running his hands up and down my sides. It felt perfect, not to be cliche, but it’s like there were fireworks going off.
We pulled away to take a breath and I leaned my forehead against his. “Wow that was...” I said, not being able to come up with the right word. “Magical” he said, smiling at me. “Yes, very magical” I said.
“Why didn't we ever do that sooner?” Anthony asked me. “I don’t know, but trust me, we should have. That was amazing” I said. “I plan on doing a lot more of it, just so you know” Anthony said, smirking.
“I’m alright with that, so we have a few hours until the premiere. What do you want to do?” I asked him. “Well how about we watch a movie, but I get to hold you in my arms while we watch it, or the deal is off” he suggested.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way Ramos” I told him, smiling.

Okay now that I've slept on it, my thoughts on the CATS film.
First of all, I am still not completely sold on it. We have only seen a first look trailer and the trailer released yesterday. Before I go into my points, I have to mention what cats means to me.
It's one of those musicals that a lot of people see live as their first musical, and that is the same for me. I saw it when I was 16, about to start college, and it's cheesy to say but seeing that show literally changed my life. Through CATS I have met the most amazing friends online because we all share the same love for a show that holds such sentimental value to us, whether we saw it live or watched the 98 film version. So you can imagine how jarring it is to see this trailer and see how different a lot of the aspects we love are.
Anyway, it's not like I wasn't expecting changes, I knew there would be! But when the rights of CATS were being sold to Andrew Lloyd Webber, T.S Elliot's widow had said that Elliot had never wanted his characters to become pussy cats prancing around on a screen, for he had already turned down Disney. This isn't the first movie production of cats, we had the 1998 VHS version which is well known and loved amongst the fandom, there has been a cancelled animation of CATS which had so much potential and now we have the 2019 version.
Personally I've been suspended in suspense for months awaiting this trailer, and while I think the new concept from what I've seen from the trailer looks good there are parts that throw me off and do make me slightly upset. I will try and condense them down.
The animation. To me when the first shot of Victoria (the white cat) came onto screen I genuinely thought if you make her blue she'd look like an avatar. But that was just a first impression. The body of the cat itself isn't that bad, it's how you would imagine a cat walking and dancing like a human would look like; IT'S THE FACE WHICH GETS ME. Yes I understand they want the audience to be able to see the actor and actress's faces beneath the animation, but what I am not seeing is an actual CAT NOSE. If there were distinguishable cat noses then I don't think I'd be that thrown by it.
Trying to make it realistic. While I really appreciate they've tried to make it realistic, I feel like they've missed the mark. CATS on stage isn't meant to be realistic, you are meant to feel like you've stumbled upon a Junkyard filled with magic and strange looking cats, but they look strange in the wrong way in the film to me, sorry to say it. I can see that the CGI animators have gone for more realistic looking cats in some cases, that's okay, but I feel like they really didn't need to do that if these Cats are already singing and dancing around in their own Milk Bar etc, which of course isn't realistic since it's not meant to be, then why not make the cats look cool and interesting? Why not give them fur that is coloured slightly differently to a normal cat? It's what helps them stand out at being Jellicle Cats. The great thing about CATS on stage is that you can clearly see differences between characters because they all look different! Yet in the trailer I found it hard to pick out the characters that aren't being played by a big name because their fur colours blended into the background, or they all looked similar.
Choreography. Okay this part is me just stating a plain dislike and sorry but bare with. GILLIAN LYNNE IS SPINNING IN HER GRAVE! If you don't know who the late great Gillian Lynne is, she is the original choreographer of CATS the musical, if you are unfamiliar with her work just search the CATS 98 film on YouTube there you will see a perfect example of her work. She was extremely talented and really brought the feline movement to life in the dancing. She passed away recently and it was a great loss to the theatre and dance world. But, the current choreographer for the CATS movie who also choreographed Hamilton and the broadway revival of CATS, to me doesn't fully present the feline illusion in his work. Andy Blankenbuehler has a very distinct dance style which of course works for other productions, but it's the wrong style for cats. Real life cats move elegantly. The broadway revival of CATS honestly was to me not that great from what I was able to watch online, that's nothing on the cast, it's just the choreography did not sit well with me, it was too hip hop and modern for something that is meant to me making you feel like you're watching cats dance under a moon.
There are probably more negatives I could pick out but I don't feel that's necessary so I'll move onto some positives!
I will be seeing the film. Yes I will still watch it because I'm curious, I'm not going to let my negative feelings from one trailer stop me from watching it in the cinema, I may love it once I've seen the whole thing, who knows. The version I am used to will just hold a special place in my heart.
I'm really excited to see the talent of the ensemble characters! If you don't know what that means, it is essentially the background characters. The amazing part of CATS is that you can look at any character at any point in the show and they will be doing something that brings to life their character and I hope that translates onto the screen.
The set looks really fun! Though I'm used to seeing CATS set in a Junkyard I am really excited to see that their universe has expanded, the inclusion of the Milk Bar or the cabaret that Bombalurina seemed to be in looks really fun because I have always imagined what a world just for cats would look like. The illusion that they are cats is really helped by how everything is supersized and I bet the cast had a lot of fun working around that.
Finally, I hope that this movie inspires more stage to screen adaptations (hopefully done right) because it would open up such wonderful stories that are presented on stage to a wider audience. Theatre tickets are generally expensive so screen adaptations are really good to tell the story to people all over the world.
Yes I'm well aware I've had too much to say about this, but CATS is really special to me and many others so I wanted to share my feelings, good or bad.
Think what you want about the CATS movie, everyone is free to express their own opinion whether they hate it or not, all I can say is don't be nasty or hateful to anyone who is genuinely excited about this film, let them be! And don't be nasty or hateful to people who aren't excited, they just have a different view compared to you.

Note
I think it depends how many tickets are available. Venues usually keep releasing some small amount tickets here and there even for sold out shows right? I have managed to get to several sold out shows close to the dates. so if it's like 95-98% sold out , then I get why it can be positioned as sold out.
Generally for small venues there would only be tickets at box office on the day due to returns. I agree that if a show is 95-98% sold out then you can say “woooh we got a sold out show!”, especially if you’re adding another show at that venue and want people to buy tix to that. But that’s not the case here. The dates are not listed as sold out on his website or on the ticket sales sites.  Louis tweeted a tour poster with red ‘sold out’ signs covering all of his UK venues - when tour starts in less than 3 weeks and there are still tickets available. That won’t encourage people to look into going to see him. And I’m sure he has plenty of Twitter followers who were 1D fans back in the day and maybe don’t follow him closely now but might think, “he’s playing in Manchester, maybe I’ll go”.Seems a counterproductive move.

A blip about Revolver Records and its summer tour.
I’ve been posting for a while about the bands that are currently on Revolver Records but never really explained what that is. Jeremy Valois (Donovan) and Scott Christopher are the bassists and lead singer, respectfully, of an old 80s/early 90s rock band called Static. Static toured throughout most of the mid-to-late 80s and were a recording band until about 1997 when they broke up for what was supposed to be a permanent break. Scott was a heavy drug user and Jeremy suffered a heart attack and an issue with his liver that caused their tour in ‘97 to rather epically fail. During the last show their guitarist, Thomas Kincaid fell off the stage and fractured his spine and after that, the band was pretty much done. There was a lot of in-fighting with them all as well so for a while it was best for them all to go to the separate corners, figuratively speaking. The final nail in the proverbial coffin was the announcement that Static’s drummer, Cray, was silently battling HIV and lost the battle in December ‘98.
In 2002, after multiple stints in rehab for both Jeremy and Scott (Thomas is still a heavy drug addict, his crutch seems to be his cocaine and Vicodin) the two came together again and started throwing around an idea that all of them had in the late 80s when they discovered they were not the owners of their own music. Together, in 2004, after two years of discussing and planning, Revolver Records was born. Backed by several silent partners, including Funny Farm studios (Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue) and Nothing Records (Trent Reznor), Revolver’s main goal was to be a company for musicians made by musicians. Jeremy suggested to Scott that they bring on Quinn Talbot, a freelance photojournalist who had worked with the band several times in the late 90s and was close to Jeremy in particular.
Revolver’s slogan was originally “Will hire anyone” though, after a first failed lineup on the record involved music to make your ears bleed, it was changed to “By musicians, for musicians”. The first band to be signed was actually Static itself, as with the release of a music video at 9am on TRL (remember when that was a thing?!) they announced that there was going to be a final, official album and tour to kick off the creation of their new record label. The next was a band called Spyral, headed up by heroin addict Eric Stryker (just called Stryker). After that, Revolver blew up with Jeremy and Scott both having their hands firmly on the project seeking out the best they could find and wanted to showcase as much as they could.
Revolver is very diverse in what it has signed to it, ranging from country music acts like Lorelei and Ford Knox to pop queen Star (who is also Jeremy’s wife), and even a few rappers. Their contracts are highly appealing to most musicians as they allow the musician to maintain their original tracks and have full control over what they do with it. Should someone decide to leave Revolver, the files are held for 1 year and then everything is released to the musician and Revolver only receives a small cut of royalty checks from the distribution/media sharing of the previous music but has NO attachment to anything that may follow.
The Revolver Summer Tour is a massive showcasing of all the bands on the Revolver label, starting in mid-April and continuing through late November, ending right before Thanksgiving. The tour is set up like a festival in each town and allows a more interactive experience for fans of the musicians. For each show, special pre-sales become available for what is known as the Ultimate Revolver VIP package: this includes a selection of either a specialized merchandise pack containing items from one band OR a selection of random items from each bands’ merchandising, VIP tickets to the show and the opportunity to have meet and greets with four selected bands. There are also meet and greet packages available for specific bands but only about 25 to 30 meet and greets are sold at a time so there are not too many people all at once. This also means the bands can spend a bit more time with their fans and interact with them.
Following several more addictive pitfalls, both for Scott and Robin Morelli of Triple X, the tour becomes a dry tour, meaning no alcohol or drugs of any kind. Some of the bands on the label include:
Gothic Demolition, Raven’s Fall, Static, Spyral, Lucky Starr, Tiger Daniels, Memento Mori, Triple X, Silex, Classical Disaster, appearances by Star Knight-Valois, Sixx AM (These guys actually tour with the band but they aren’t directly signed onto Revolver, sort of like how NIN goes on tour with them for a few shows but remain a separate entity), Tiana, and many others.
Revolver Records’ office is in the heart of downtown Manhattan in NYC

[NAVER] ‘Underdog’ Tickets Sold Out In Only 9 Seconds... The Fastest Record Ever for ‘BIFAN’ Opening Movie
Tumblr media
summary:
Seven years after ‘Lefie, a Hen Into The Wild’, which was also the most popular Korean feature-length animation with over 2.2 million admissions, Oh Seong-yoon and Lee Chun-baek Directors new film ‘Underdog’ will be shown as the opening movie for the 22nd Bucheon International Film Festival (BIFAN).
Proven to be receiving such an explosive interest, the ticket reservation for movie ‘Underdog’ was sold out in a superhigh speed. Only in 9 seconds since the ticketing started. This sets the fastest selling record for BIFAN’s opening movie.
‘Underdog’ tells the story of a dog named Moongchi whose fate changed in a day, heading off to search real freedom with some united friends---each with different personalities. The movie is selected as BIFAN’s opening movie with a favorable review. In particular, while this movie will portray a touching journey of a group of dogs in finding real liberty and happiness, it’s also said that ‘Underdog’ is breaking new ground for all Korean feature-length animation--material and expression wise.
Doh Kyungsoo, Park Sodam, Park Cheolmin, and others, are selected as the voice actors of the characters. The BIFAN screening will take place on July 12, Bucheon City Hall’s Lawn Plaza at 8 pm. While the movie itself will be (officially) released in the latter half of this year.

1. [+425,  -12] Last year, his movie Room 7 was also the opening film and it was sold out in 30 seconds. This time, his movie Underdog is again the opening film, and it’s sold out only in 9 seconds ㅎㅎ that’s awesome. I’m really looking forward to Underdog ♥️ supporting you actor Doh Kyungsoo ♥️
2. [+152,  -1] Successfully completed the ticketing!! It’s been a while since I went to the monitoring-preview. Looking forward to watch the polished ‘Underdog’.
3. [+98,  -1] Fighting, both to ‘Underdog’ and ‘Doh Kyungsoo’! It’s really too bad that I failed the ticketing. BIFAN, please improve your server.
4. [+57,  -1] Woah, that’s amazing!!! I’m looking forward to ‘Underdog’ :)
5. [+52,  -1] I also funded for ‘Underdog’ since it made me think of pets that I raised, now seems that the movie will do well. I’m looking forward. Fighting!
6. [+15,  -1] I like that the content is about animals in the first place, plus the animation also looks nice, but I’m anticipating this movie even more since I found that my beloved Doh Kyungsoo-ssi did the voice-acting. I’ll surely watch it once it’s released. Fighting, ‘Underdog’ !!! ^^
7. [+9,  0] Woah, I freaking love Doh Kyungsoo’s voice though! Looking forward to watch ‘Underdog’.
8. [+8,  0] Of course~ It’s Doh Kyungsoo.
9. [+6,  0] Sold out in only 9 seconds, you say? Indeed, that must be because the opening show is ‘Underdog’ which Actor Doh Kyungsoo took part in ! I want to watch this movie quick. Anticipating ❤
10. [+6,  0] Following ‘Room 7 as the opening film last year. Doh Kyungsoo’s power.
11. [+5,  0] It’s the movie I got really interested in, since I like how the actor would do the voice acting first and then the sketching would be done according to the ambience (of the recording), it left a fresh feeling that way. Now finally the movie will be shown as an opening show! I’ll surely watch the movie even after it’s officially released. Wholeheartedly supporting ‘Underdog’ ㅎㅎ
12. [+5,  0] Doh Kyungsoo’s power  ㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷㄷ ‘Underdog’, let’s do well.

LEC Finals Reportedly Generated Over £4m in Revenue for City of Malmö
Tumblr media
According to a research by the Swedish city of Malmö, the 2022 LEC summer finals brought in about SEK 50 million (about £4.03 million) for the city, mostly in the form of tourism-related income. Produced by consultancy firm Geelmuyden Kiese on behalf of the city, the report revealed that 19,600 ticket holders watched inside the arena across September 10th – 11th, with 85% of spectators attending both days. The number of seats had to be increased inside Malmö Arena after the event sold out, as the report indicated that 77% of visitors to the city came only for the LEC finals. The report also highlighted that over 98% of visitors were under 35. This is a notable statistic considering the average viewing age of every large American sport is at least over 40, according to the Sports Business Journal in 2017. Another statistic that ‘stood out’, according to the Swedish city, was the proportion of spectators studying or working in technological fields. Visitors to the city for the finals hailed from over 30 different countries, with the largest contingents coming from neighbouring Denmark and Germany. With that said, over 10% of attendees were from the UK. The latter statistic will likely be good news for Riot Games executives, who intend to host the Mid Season Invitational — the League of Legends’ second-largest event — in London next year according to a report by Esports News UK. The event would mark the first time that MSI has come to the UK, although parts of the World Championships came to the UK in 2015. The news comes as Riot Games announced sweeping changes to its broadcasting schedule last week, uprooting the LCS from its previous Saturday and Sunday slot, and changing its broadcast days to Thursday and Friday. The new broadcast plan also includes changes to League of Legends’ European league, the LEC, as well as every region’s VALORANT Champions Tour. Read the full article
