My Udemy Courses 💻📚
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Someone messaged me yesterday about the Udemy courses I have bought. The conversation was about what are the best ones out there and which ones to use as a reference in learning how to code! I screenshotted the courses for them to look at but then thought why not share it on my blog as well!
The courses are mixed from web development to C# programming, to SQL, to Git then to C++ and game development 😎
The courses are mixed from web development to C# programming, to SQL, to Git then to C++ and game development 😎
I haven’t finished a single one completely yet! I would usually stop at like 20% - 50% and then start a new one 😅💔
Anyhoo, Udemy is really good for people who like to study with online courses!
⛔ Remember to wait for sales!!! Or get the free courses!! 😫😫😫 I don't think they will go as low as £9.99 again but they usually go for £11.99-15.99 on sales!

How To Choose The Best Teacher Certificate Program Online
If you're looking to advance your career in education, selecting the right teacher certificate program online is essential. With the growing demand for specialized educators, particularly in STEM fields, finding a program that fits your needs and professional goals can be a game-changer. Heres a guide to help you choose the best online teaching certification for your career.
Identify Your Career Goals
Before choosing a teacher certificate program online, it's important to define your goals. Are you looking to specialize in a specific subject area, such as STEM education for teachers? Or are you seeking a general certification that qualifies you to teach across various disciplines? Knowing what you want to achieve will help narrow down the available programs.
For those interested in STEM, programs that offer STEM education for teachers are increasingly valuable. As science, technology, engineering, and math play a critical role in shaping the future, being certified in these areas can make you a sought-after candidate in schools and educational institutions.
Flexibility And Accessibility
One of the main advantages of pursuing an online teaching certification is the flexibility it offers. Whether you're currently teaching or balancing a different job, an online program allows you to learn at your own pace and fit your studies into a busy schedule.
Be sure to choose a program that offers not just flexible timing but also accessible resources, like 24/7 online support, interactive learning modules, and faculty who are available for virtual office hours. Los Angeles ORT College is a great example of an institution that offers accessible programs designed for working professionals looking to advance their skills in education.
Accreditation and Reputation
When selecting an online teaching certification, it's crucial to check the program's accreditation. Accredited programs ensure that you receive a recognized certification, which is critical when applying for teaching positions or advancing in your career.
Look for a program with a strong reputation in the field. Los Angeles ORT College is well-known for offering accredited high-quality teacher certificate programs online, especially in STEM education. Graduates from accredited programs have an edge in competitive job markets and are well-prepared for the demands of modern teaching.
Curriculum Focus
The curriculum of a teacher certificate program online should align with your career goals. For instance, if you're interested in STEM education for teachers, ensure that the program offers specialized courses in these subjects. A strong focus on practical teaching strategies, classroom management, and up-to-date knowledge of STEM fields will prepare you to lead in this high-demand area.
Support and Resources
Lastly, consider the support offered by the program. Does the school provide career services, mentorship, or assistance with job placement after you complete your online teaching certification? A well-rounded program should offer support throughout your studies and after graduation. Los Angeles ORT College is known for providing robust student support, ensuring that graduates are ready to enter the workforce with confidence.
Conclusion
Choosing the best teacher certificate program online involves considering your career goals, the program’s flexibility, accreditation, curriculum, and available support. For educators looking to specialize in STEM, selecting a program with a focus on STEM education for teachers can be particularly advantageous. Institutions like Los Angeles ORT College offer the quality, flexibility, and reputation you need to succeed in today’s educational landscape.

Lifelong Learning: How Personal Enrichment Programs Can Keep Your Mind Sharp
Imagine yourself waltzing through a vibrant art studio, brushstrokes dancing across a blank canvas. Or perhaps you envision yourself engrossed in a captivating online lecture, unravelling the mysteries of the cosmos. These aren't mere fantasies; they're testaments to the power of lifelong learning, a journey that keeps your mind active, fosters creativity, and unlocks a world of possibilities well into your golden years. But why is lifelong learning so crucial? And how can you keep your cognitive gears turning smoothly?
The Importance of Lifelong Learning: Keeping Your Mind Active
Our brains, like any other muscle in our body, thrive on exercise. When we continuously challenge ourselves with new experiences and information, we strengthen neural pathways, enhance cognitive function, and keep our minds sharp. However, the downside of stagnation is all too real. Just like an unused muscle withers away, a brain that isn't stimulated can experience cognitive decline. Memory lapses, difficulty focusing, and a struggle to learn new things – these are all potential consequences of neglecting the intellectual gym.
The good news? Lifelong learning acts as a powerful antidote to cognitive decline. Here's how:
Improved Memory & Cognitive Function: Think of your brain as a vast network of interconnected neurons. When you learn something new, these neurons fire and forge new connections, strengthening existing pathways and boosting overall cognitive function. Imagine mastering a new language – not only does it expand your communication abilities, but the process itself strengthens your memory and cognitive flexibility.
Enhanced Problem-Solving Skills: Lifelong learning doesn't just stuff your brain with facts; it equips you with valuable problem-solving skills. As you grapple with new concepts, analyze information, and approach challenges from different angles, you hone your critical thinking abilities. Imagine attending a workshop on negotiation tactics – not only will you learn practical skills for the boardroom, but you'll also develop a sharper mind that can tackle any problem life throws your way.
Increased Creativity & Innovation: Ever feel stuck in a rut, creatively speaking? Lifelong learning can be your key to unlocking a hidden wellspring of creativity. By exposing yourself to new ideas, perspectives, and disciplines, you cultivate a fertile ground for innovation. Imagine participating in a creative writing workshop – not only will you explore new storytelling techniques, but you'll also find inspiration in the diverse experiences and perspectives of your fellow participants.
Lifelong learning is not just about acquiring knowledge; it's about keeping your mind active, engaged, and brimming with curiosity. It's about embracing new challenges and embarking on a journey of continuous intellectual growth.
Unleashing Potential: The Power of Personal Enrichment Programs
So, how do you translate the concept of lifelong learning into action? Enter the world of personal enrichment programs – dynamic learning experiences designed to ignite your passions, expand your skillset, and keep your mind sharp. These programs come in a vast array of shapes and sizes, catering to diverse interests and learning styles. Whether you yearn to master the intricacies of astrophysics, rediscover the joy of painting with vibrant watercolors, or develop your leadership skills, there's a personal enrichment program waiting to ignite your spark.
But how exactly do enrichment programs specifically benefit cognitive health? Here are some key ways:
Challenging Your Brain: Enrichment programs are designed to push you outside your comfort zone. Whether it's grappling with complex programming concepts or delving into the intricacies of a foreign language, these programs introduce new
concepts and skills, keeping your brain actively engaged and forging new neural pathways. Imagine attending a lecture series on philosophy – the act of grappling with abstract concepts and dissecting complex arguments stimulates your brain in a way that keeps it sharp and agile.
Social Interaction & Connection: Learning doesn't have to be a solitary pursuit. Many enrichment programs offer a vibrant social fabric where you can connect with like-minded individuals. Imagine participating in a photography workshop – not only will you learn valuable photography techniques, but you'll also share ideas, offer constructive criticism, and forge valuable friendships with fellow photography enthusiasts. These social connections not only enhance your learning experience but also provide intellectual stimulation and support your cognitive health.
Combating Mental Decline: Research suggests that lifelong learning can help combat age-related cognitive decline. By consistently challenging your brain with new information and experiences, you can strengthen neural pathways and improve cognitive function. Imagine enrolling in a memory improvement course – not only will you learn practical strategies for boosting your memory, but you'll also keep your brain actively engaged, potentially slowing down the progression of age-related cognitive decline.
Personal enrichment programs offer a dynamic and engaging way to embrace lifelong learning and reap its numerous benefits for cognitive health. Now, let's delve into the exciting world of program options!
A World of Enrichment Awaits - Exploring Program Options
The world of personal enrichment programs is as vast and diverse as the individuals who participate in them. Here's a glimpse into some of the program categories waiting to ignite your spark:
Academic Enrichment: Struggling with calculus or yearning to brush up on your Spanish? Academic enrichment programs offer targeted support in core subjects, languages, and standardized test preparation.
Arts & Creativity: Unleash your inner artist! Enrichment programs in visual arts, music, dance, drama, and creative writing provide a platform for exploration and expression.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math): Do you dream of building robots or exploring the mysteries of the universe? STEM enrichment programs ignite a passion for these dynamic fields.
Life Skills & Personal Development: Enrichment programs go beyond academics. They can equip you with essential life skills like communication, leadership, time management, and conflict resolution.
Physical Activity & Wellness: Enrichment programs don't neglect your physical well-being. Programs in yoga, fitness training, or healthy cooking can keep your body and mind sharp.
Remember, this is just a glimpse into the vast array of personal enrichment programs available. With a little research, you're sure to find a program that perfectly aligns with your interests, learning style, and cognitive goals.
Finding Your Perfect Fit – A Guide to Program Selection
Now that you're brimming with excitement about the possibilities, let's navigate the process of finding the perfect personal enrichment program for you. Here's a roadmap to guide you on this enriching journey:
1. Self-Assessment: Know Thyself
The first step is to embark on a voyage of self-discovery. Grab a pen and paper (or your favorite note-taking app) and ponder these questions in an honest and introspective way:
What are your interests and passions? What ignites your curiosity and makes you lose track of time? Do you dream of mastering a new musical instrument, exploring the world of coding, or delving into the intricacies of foreign languages?
What are your cognitive goals? Do you yearn to sharpen your memory, improve your critical thinking skills, or simply keep your mind active as you age?
What skills do you want to develop? Do you crave stronger communication skills, yearn to become a coding whiz, or aspire to develop a more disciplined approach to learning?
What is your preferred learning style? Do you thrive in interactive group settings, prefer the flexibility of a self-paced online learning platform, or enjoy the personalized guidance of one-on-one tutoring?
By answering these questions thoughtfully, you'll gain valuable insights that will help you narrow down your search and find a program that aligns perfectly with your aspirations.
2. Researching Programs: Be a Savvy Seeker
With your self-assessment in hand, it's time to delve into the exciting world of program research! Here are some key strategies to ensure you find the perfect fit:
Considering Location & Schedule: Think about your lifestyle. Do you prefer in-person classes near your home or work, or are online learning platforms more convenient for your busy schedule? Perhaps you thrive in the social energy of a book club meeting, or relish the focused learning environment of a weekend photography workshop.
Cost & Budget: Enrichment programs range in price from free community workshops to intensive professional development courses. Be realistic about your budget and explore options with scholarships or financial aid. Remember, the investment in your cognitive health and personal growth is priceless!
Instructor Credentials & Reviews: Research the instructors or facilitators leading the program. Look for individuals with relevant expertise, a proven track record of success, and a teaching style that resonates with your learning preferences. Reading online reviews and testimonials from past participants can also offer valuable insights.
3. Leverage the Power of the Web
Many educational institutions, community centres, and online platforms offer personal enrichment programs. Utilise search engines to find programs in your area or targeted towards your specific interests. Don't hesitate to reach out to program coordinators directly with any questions you may have.
Making the Most of Your Enrichment Program Journey
Now that you've enrolled in your chosen program, it's time to maximize your learning experience and ignite your cognitive spark!
1. Setting Goals & Celebrating Achievements: Chart Your Course
Remember, personal enrichment programs are not passive experiences. Once you've enrolled, set clear and achievable goals for yourself. What do you hope to gain from this experience? What specific skills do you want to master? How will this program contribute to your overall cognitive health goals? Having defined goals will keep you motivated and focused throughout the program.
However, be realistic about your expectations. Learning takes time and dedication. Celebrate your progress along the way, no matter how small. Did you finally master that challenging guitar chord? Did you overcome your initial hesitations and actively participate in a class discussion? These are all victories worth celebrating!
2. Active Participation & Engagement: Embrace the Journey
Active participation is the key to unlocking the full potential of personal enrichment programs. Don't relegate yourself to the back of the classroom. Actively participate in class discussions, ask questions, and engage with the learning materials. The more you put into the program, the more you'll get out of it. Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and embrace new challenges. Sharing your experiences and perspectives with your fellow participants can also enrich the learning environment for everyone. Remember, you're not alone on this journey!
3. Building Connections & Networking: Expand Your Horizons
Personal enrichment programs offer a wealth of opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals. Strike up conversations with your fellow participants, share your learning experiences, and build meaningful connections. You never know who you might meet and what kind of professional or personal collaborations might blossom from these interactions. Perhaps you'll find an accountability partner to support your learning journey, or even discover a new mentor who can guide you in your cognitive health goals.
Conclusion - Sharpen Your Mind, Embrace Lifelong Learning
The world of personal enrichment programs awaits, brimming with possibilities for lifelong learning and cognitive growth. Whether you yearn to master a new skill, ignite your creativity, or simply keep your mind sharp as you age, these programs offer a powerful pathway to a fulfilling and intellectually stimulating future. Don't let this opportunity pass you by! Take the first step today and embark on a lifelong journey of learning and self-discovery.

Why we have to start being nicer to eachother:
I know it sucks and is hard, but I think we really do need to start treating techbros and incels and our fellow humans with a bit more compassion, empathy, and understanding before we jump to bad faith interpretation. Especially when seeing a bad take online used as bait for arguments. We have to give other people the opportunity and knowledge to think for themselves, and make the choice to become a better person on their own.
"Hold on! Why should I be nice to people like that? THEY'RE the ones who are being bigoted to US!"
Well, I'll try and answer that question below! I ended up writing a lot, so check out the "read more" if you're curious. At the end of the day, I'm not an expert or a professional on human behavior, so keep that in mind. This is just something I've been thinking about based on my own past experiences.
Conspiracy theorists, the far right, gun enthusiasts, and even MAGA's all operate on the belief that modern society hates them for who they are. They think the entire world is against them.
And, looking at the kind of hate rhetoric and harmful ideologies they talk about; the cruel acts of casual and extremist violence that stem from that community, it easy to see why the world has turned its back on them. Right?
It makes you wonder: "Why are they like this?"
The easy way out is to simply hold on to the belief that they are behaving this way because they are bad people. Bad people do bad things, after all.
But when the world turns its back on a group of people, those people turn their backs on the world. They will naturally gravitate towards whichever group of accepting humans they come across first. Whoever validates their feelings and makes them feel accepted and safe instead of rejected and fearful.
The far right preys on young men who don't know know any better because they are never treated any better. They have influencers, exactly like Donald Trump, that make you feel safe. They also are lying to these people and using their fear of rejection to control them.
It's very similar to how the Church will help you out and feed you if you're homelss... as long as you join the church and donate 10% of your earnings to "God." (The churchs bank account. )
That is to say, people don't usually pop out of the womb with these prejudices and fears programed into their heads. It's something that has to be taught to them by somebody else. Their parents, the church, their school, their friends, youtubers, etc.
"So, what do we do? How do we save future and current generations from being sucked into this hateful spiral of far right bigotry?"
"How do we help our conservative parents, who we know love us but are absolutely convinced that they need guns to keep their families safe? How do we help our Trump Train family members who used to be loving, compassionate, people?"
Well, you're not gonna like the answer. We have to start being nicer to everyone. We have to be nicer to incels, dude bros, techbros, Karen's, and yes, even your average Republican voters. We have to show them compassion and empathy when they're expressing their fears, without immediately attacking them for it. We have got to prove to them that there's a place for them to come back to.
Their fears are being taken advantage of by a system that benefits from pitting the general population against each other. If we're too busy fighting eachother, we can never join forces and fight the system.
And so it turns into a self-sustaining system of fear and reactive lashing out. They start believing that everybody is against them, except the few people who understand. Until the only safe place left for them is the Q Anon message boards. Quite literally an orobourous of hate.
"But Curio! They literally want us dead! These people are violent and irredeemable!"
Many of them are. So many of these people are groomed into believing that the only way they can keep themselves safe is by killing anything they think has caused them harm. It's an intentional system maintained by those in power to control those who are not.
Some of them, however, are just normal people who got in with the wrong crowd or are too young to know better. Some people were never given the chance to be better.
"So, what SHOULD we do? Be nice to our oppressors? Let them get away with hate crimes and bigotry?"
No. But we DO need to stop thinking of "them" as this massive malevolent demographic who have no souls and are inherently evil. The majority of these people were lied to and manipulated and groomed into these beliefs.
We have to try harder to stop ourselves before we start calling them names and attack them, regardless of if they deserve it or not. We have to engage with them on good faith. Learn about WHY they believe conspiracy theories and why it stems from fear.
"Why? What will this help?"
Because you're quite literally showing them that there's another option available for them to take. You're showing them that, if they do change their minds and want to change their behavior, that you are a safe person to approach with these thoughts. You have the power to create a space for them where they're allowed to think for themselves without punishing them for it.
Once you create that connection, it's like you're showing them another road in life they can explore. They now can see a new future for themselves. A future where their kids start talking to them again. A future where they're not terrified of being humiliated for being soft. A future where they feel listened to.
And that's all. You just have to give them that chance. It's not your job to change their mind, or to tell them that they're wrong for thinking thoughts. In fact, trying to do just that will usually encourage them to double down.
But what you CAN do is build an environment where they have the OPPORTUNITY to change their mind. You can be kind, empathetic, and educational. Be patient and listen and have a respectful conversation with them.
It is especially important for people with privilege to step up and be those kinds of diplomats. People who are able and willing to look past the surface bigotry to address the scared humans underneath. People who can do this without endangering themselves or their community. This may be other cis straight white people who can get away with bringing these topics up gently, without triggering reflexive defensiveness. Who then have the patience to gently educate them and steer them towards a better path.
"But Curio, I can't do this. I've been hurt too many times by these people, and doing this would cause me significant mental distress."
Then don't. You're not obligated to be the better person for every situation and circumstance. Nuance must be taken into account. You don't have to be nice to every troll or ragebait Twitter post. I certainly don't want you to put yourself in a situation that causes you emotional, physical, or mental harm. Hell, you don't even have to give them the time of day. It's your own responsibility to make the judgment call regarding your health.
But people simply won't change if there's no room for them to change. And some people have the power to make that room for them little by little.
"I've tried everything. I've begged, cried, been nice, and shown them that we won't reject them. They won't change their minds no matter what."
And that's also ok! It can happen. When you give people the opportunity to make choices for themselves, there will always be people who still choose to believe the system they were groomed on. They can do that because thats free will, baby. There will still be people who will not change their minds and who will actively choose to become more radicalized.
And it's sad to see. But you also have to respect that sometimes people aren't ready to change at the same time that you're ready to help them change.
But you should try to do it for all the young men and children who are being taught by their parents that White Genocide is real. You should do it for the parents who love their kid so much, but are so terrified when they say they're transgender because they don't know what to do. Because they know the world will not treat them fairly or are afraid of ruining everything.
You should do it for your 10 year old nephew who watches Andrew Tate because their mother doesn't give a damn enough to check what kind of YouTube videos their kid is watching. You should do it for the depressed and hurting teenager who thinks they have no option left but to buy a gun and shoot up their school, because no ones listening to them. You should do it for the tradwife who's alone and hurting after her conservative husband cheated on her and left her with nothing; because she thought she would be the exception.
"...How do you know this will work? What if you're wrong, and nothing changes?"
I don't! I'm just a random person on the internet. I dont know who might read this. It's just my opinion.
But at least, at the end of the day, you tried your best to be a good person to another human being, and I don't think that's such very a bad thing. For me, I'm going to try because I don't want to lose my father to that kind of environment. I want to be able to have a normal conversation with him again.
There's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for.

Continuing the Black Girls In Tech x Cisco Cyber Academy course! #2
Tumblr media
Saturday 4th February 2023 ☕
First Saturday really starting this course! I am doing the 'Introduction to Cybersecurity' course and I'm liking it so far. It's more slideshows and end-of-chapter quizzes, so that's fun! 😎
I am making my notes using Google Docs so I can look back on my work for the quizzes later on, there'll be 5 major ones so best study for that!
This chapter was all about 'What is Cybersecurity?'. So far, I've learnt about identity theft, don't have your username the same as your real name (unless for business purposes), they are lots of copies of images you upload online, etc. Like really cool online and offline security stuff, most of the time reading I was like "omg I didn't know that whattttt??" 😅
I haven't finished this chapter, but towards the end of it, hopefully, I can get the rest done over the week and start Chapter 2 next Saturday! 😁
Thanks for reading! You can look at the course yourself or find others you like via this post I made about the whole deal [LINK]!

。𖦹°‧ Some of my thoughts/headcannon's for the main 6 。𖦹°‧⭑.
NOTE!!!! : THESE ARE SUPER OUTDATED!!! THIS HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY DRAFTS FOR MONTHS AND I JUST WANTED TO CLEAR IT OUT. SO... there are some of these that are kinda old, I don't necessarily think are that relevant anymore or I've already talked about them on here at some point in time. SO I'M SO SORRY.
I really wanted to start a new list but I also felt guilty about this list just sitting here but I also didn't want to fully fix this list cause it would take a while so that's why I'm posting.
GETTING TO THE POINT, these are probably mid and you've heard them before so this won't be as good as other headcannon posts I've done. I promise I'll do better in the future
With that being said, let's get into it!

OMG, SHE'S MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE. AHHHHH
Girlie in STEM. I don't feel like she gets the appreciation she deserves for this. Like my girl is out here building whole ass ROBOTS and people are just like yeah whatever.
I think she would've definitely had a hippie phase. She looks like the type to collect crystals. My girl could live out of a van
ALSO, she's definitely got good fitness. She's one of the more athletic of the crew members. - My girl likes her sports what can I say
She has scrapbooks for everyone on the ship. She has personal photo albums with silly selfies (and photos she's taken when they weren't looking)
She would love Sanrio and she would have a few Sanrio-themed clips (she's my melody coded to me)
I also reckon she would've weaselled it into the other crewmates. (I feel like shellington would absolutely love it)
Indian/Australian
If she was religious - Hindu
LOVES detective movies - (Her, shellington and kwazii bond over this) (Sherlock BBC?)
Over analyses everything
Let Tweak dye her hair sometimes (she would do pink skunk hair/pink highlighting)
She used to have long hair. Everyone else on board had shorter hair and eventually, she felt bad so she cut her hair shorter. It's better this way though, it's a lot less maintenance
She's up to date on anything that's trending and probably influences the other with it. (regularly uses words like demure and tweak lowkey wants to dropkick her)
Paints her nails (sometimes the other too)
SURFING PRO - she got into it when she was really young (her love of surfing definitely sparked her love of the sea)
She IS the Lofi girl - she has GOD tier music taste
Coding god helps tweak with programming the gups/ship
When she was younger, she use to troll people online and find their IP, full name, address etc. when they pissed her off (it really refined her skills)
Makes handmade bracelets (kwasi likes to join in he does a really good job )
I forced them to make a group chat so they would just be silly.
Is a legend at national seaographic (outstanding photos)
SHE WILL DO ANYTHING to get her photos, which often puts her a risk (she and kwazii are twinning) sometimes she does outdo him on the reckless scale the ray and the whale episode

THE SILLY
Ok Just one thing I wanna point out, I feel like a lot of people think of him as some goofy ahh little kid. YES, he is not "as serious" as other crew members but just a reminder he is the LEUITENT. Just because his leadership style isn't oh ho ho ho, I'm macho serious doesn't mean he doesn't know how to take care of his crew or that he is a child. GROWN MEN CAN BE SILLY TOO.
I'm sorry that's just a sore spot
He lowkey reminds me of Jack Twist (I'm so sorry)
He's the second biggest yapper (only losing to shellington) he can keep everyone engaged for hours with his stories
Has a really fast reaction time
Carbeian
My boy would have a NICE tan
I reckon he could speak Spanish
Loves learning new languages with Shelligton so he can decode his ancient stories and mysteries
A very talented artist - he's really good at arts and crafts and loves hanging out with Dashi as an excuse to do it
Despite his typically "impatient" demeanour, he can lock in and do things with intricate detail (ADHD is out to get him)
Loves map-making places they've visited in his free time. (Potential for him and Min to bond?)
Loves singing sea shanties
Would sing in the shower
pretty boy
Look I know he doesn't show it but I reckon he worries about the crew just as much if not more than Barnacles

Shellington

THE EEPY LITTLE GUY
I love my little brainiac
He reminds me of Ford Pines. I can see him in the get-up (like imagine him in the fit OOO it would look FIRE)
The biggest info dumper. He is the biggest yapper, he loves telling everyone about everything ever.
As a child, he would try to talk to anyone about his interests. I can imagine him calling people on the phone or talking to fishy's. His family would've eventually gone insane, lol.
When he's not bonkers, he's one of the more chill crew members to be around.
His sleep schedule is AWFUL, our little insomniac needs some sleep
Crewmates would come and chill with him in his lab when they couldn't sleep (they might be feeling homesick or just rattled from the week's events) because he's usually up until the wee hours. They often just sit in silence but he's happy just be a comforting presence
FATHER - he is always looking out for the others in his own little way, he has a very caring demeanour and is sometimes the more approachable one (cause he's not AS intense (EXCEPT for when he's in the zone THEN HE's INTENSE)
He LOVES to study with the others. He's erm... PRETTY STUDIOUS and he studies with all the crewmates when they're in the mood
He studies new languages with Kwasi (especially old and forgotten ones) and they will spend HOURS unpacking mysteries
My guy needs to hit the gym - he's kind of unfit (well compared to the others anyway)
THIS GUY IS BANNED FROM THE KITCHEN ( seems like the type of guy to burn a salad)
Very tall, he is the second tallest after Barnacles
Scottish AND PROUD
He also needs glasses
He is VERY accident-prone. He's spilt quote a few chemicals and given himself a few nasty burns( probs has scars from all of them). He's one of Peso's regulars. wrap him in bubble wrap istg
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Peso
Tumblr media
OML THIS GUY'S GONNA HAVE A HEART ATTACK
He was SO anxious when he first started. Like he was in charge of taking care of the two most reckless lack of self-preservation guys ever. Every time they would go out on missions he would just be on edge (like omg are these two coming back ALIVE)
Because of this, I reckon he would get mad at those two (easily after bad scares (LIKE THE MANTEES EP). Like it would make him so upset he'd have outbursts - " CAN YOU PLEASE STOP BEING SO FUCKING RECKLESS ALL THE TIME. I CAN'T BRING YOU BACK FROM THE DEAD" - or something along those lines. (They would feel super bad and promise him that they would be more careful (lies))
Spanish (and can speak)
Grew up a really big family, so he finds a lot of comfort in his octo family
Even though he still gets homesick
He facetime his family every week
HE'S NOT JUST SOME TWINK- LIKE AGAIN JUST BECAUSE SOME GUY ISN'T MACHO MACHO DOESN'T MEAN THEY'RE A TWINKY LOSER RAHH
On that note - he's definitely had to improve his fitness to keep up with Kwasi and Barnacles
Sometimes he's cleaning up medbay and he thinks to himself "OMFG, I have the most accident-prone reckless crewmates ever. Honestly, man, I don't know if I can do this" - (when his whole crew got wiped from the snail episode, I know he kept his cool but like when he was alone that night he definitely just pulled a

MY GIRL BOSS, MY QUEEN MY IDOL
She definitely has HUGE muscles from all the lifting she does
Naturally has blonde hair (I know a lot of people hc her with brown hair but I've just always personally thought blonde). She constantly dyes it - (Part of me thinks she was bullied for her blonde hair (dumb blonde type of comments) and ever since she hates it. Her natural hair is a sore subject. It used to make her insecure especially because of her field. Although she didn't let it show, the comments about her hair being "too girlie" made her despise it)
Dashi definitely helped her improve her perception of this. Being the kickass she is but also enjoying being feminine helped her get over her insecurity. (She's a little more ok with letting her roots show)
MY QUEEN IN STEM. She graduated with honours. (LIKE MY GIRL IS BUILDING ALL OF THAT, I BEEN SO PROUD OF HER)
She loves watching Matpat (sometimes watches with Shellington)
She loves playing video games
Has God tier Minecraft worlds (she could sell her build designs)
Red stone GOD
Loves wearing bandanas and headbands
She loves her crew so much, (she's worked in hostile work environments before) she loves having free rein and the support
Although she sometimes worries about what would happen to the POD without her (Barnacles knows some of the basics but...)
Camera shy (canon?) (from the volcano one?)
MY GIRL DOESN'T GIVE A FUCK.
She has very little patience and can be very blunt
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Barnacles
Tumblr media
OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN
Definitely of Slavic descent. Russian/Ukrainian (can speak) (like I know he's British or whatever but like.... c'mon)
Uber is tall like 6ft+
He's a big guy but super fit. Bro's muscles go insane
Gives the best bear hugs (obviously)
He needs a hug oml
Like zero sense of self-preservation
Would sacrifice himself to save the world ah complex
He reminds me of Raph Rottmnt (2018)
He gets VERY homesick
LET HIM BE REAL PLEASE
I feel like he would be a psychology student if he was going to study anything. LIKE this man CARES about you. (also I reckon he would be like super in psychology he's got some stuff to unpack himself
I know he has his fear of small spaces but also I reckon he has this super duper tiny fear of being alone. He likes being around people but being alone just makes him a little uncomfortable. (when he gets uncomfortable he'll start talking to himself) but generally, he's motivated to get back to his crew that he can preserve and hide it pretty well
I feel like this guy would have his mobile phone super enlarged (like you know when you see middle-aged women and their phones are just like SUPER zoomed in) because he can't see for shit
Needs glasses (doesn't wear them) he should
Sometimes, I reckon he has his moments when he just
Tumblr media
Like sometimes he just experiences the horrors
Sometimes he quotes his favourite movies (but they're all super old ) that he thinks are "inspirational" (life is like a box of chocolates ahhh) and the crew is just like huh?
Is an avid enjoyer and user of the minion Facebook memes
*stupid* he can roll a pretty good blunt (stoner Barnacles reference) (he would get stoned which Kwazii)
——————————————————————————-------------------
So that's it. I hope they weren't too horrendous!
I'm working on a more refined list filled with better headcannons so I hope that will redeem this outdated list!

Los Bailadores Zapatistas and the Latino Native American Cultural Center
Last week, the Latino-Native American Alumni Alliance (LANA3) gathered on campus to celebrate more than 50 years of the Latino Native American Cultural Center (LNACC) at the University of Iowa.
In 1971, three students—Rusty Barceló, Ruth Pushetonequa, and Tony Zavala—founded the the Chicano Indian American Cultural Center, later renamed the Latino Native American Cultural Center (LNACC). In it’s five-decade history LNACC has hosted events like cookouts, powwows, and dances; published literary magazines and newsletters; held rallies, boycotts, and protests; and sponsored a variety of other educational and social programs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Libraries’ Special Collections and Archives recently acquired new materials from LNACC, including these beautiful dresses handmade by students in Los Bailadores Zapatistas, a baile folklórico troupe on campus. Baile folklórico encompasses many different types of traditional folk dance stemming from various regions of Mexico and cultural traditions, often with Indigenous and Spanish influences.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Los Bailadores Zapatista’s was formed at University of Iowa in the mid-1970s and aimed to “increase the education level and understanding of mestizo dancing and music, and to share our mestizo culture with the university and community population.” Los Bailadores performed on campus and throughout Iowa and the Midwest, often accompanied by the singing group El Conjunto Chicano. They visited other campuses and performed at community events and festivals. In 1978 they attended the National Ballet Folklórico festival in Kansas, and six students traveled to Mexico that summer to learn traditional dances.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Celina Espinoza, the groups instructor, taught the other members how to sew costumes, which are representative of traditional dance attire worn in different regions of Mexico. The group performed dances from the states of Jalisco and Veracruz, as well as from northern regions of Mexico and what is now the Southwestern United States.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Los Bailadores Zapatistas was just one of several student organizations affiliated with LNACC that brought Chicano art, music, and culture to audiences on the University of Iowa campus and beyond. To learn more about Los Bailadores and the Latino Native American Cultural Center, visit us in person or online at the Iowa Digital Library, check out our past blog posts on LNACC, and see the full finding aid to this collection here.
