Continuing the Black Girls In Tech x Cisco Cyber Academy course! #2
Saturday 4th February 2023 ☕
First Saturday really starting this course! I am doing the 'Introduction to Cybersecurity' course and I'm liking it so far. It's more slideshows and end-of-chapter quizzes, so that's fun! 😎
I am making my notes using Google Docs so I can look back on my work for the quizzes later on, there'll be 5 major ones so best study for that!
This chapter was all about 'What is Cybersecurity?'. So far, I've learnt about identity theft, don't have your username the same as your real name (unless for business purposes), they are lots of copies of images you upload online, etc. Like really cool online and offline security stuff, most of the time reading I was like "omg I didn't know that whattttt??" 😅
I haven't finished this chapter, but towards the end of it, hopefully, I can get the rest done over the week and start Chapter 2 next Saturday! 😁
Thanks for reading! You can look at the course yourself or find others you like via this post I made about the whole deal [LINK]!

Hei! I feel like you've been asked this a lot XC, sorry. How long did it take for you to reach this level of fluency in Norwegian? What would you recommend a complete beginner to do (something free, if possible. I can't order anything online and the current situation means I can't go out shopping either (and stores in my country won't have anything I'm looking for) )? PS: I've just finished the first checkpoint on Duolingo! Your posts motivate me everytime I feel down.
Hi there! No worries, I always like talking about learning Norwegian ^^
It depends on what you count as time spent studying Norwegian, because I’ve taken breaks from it and I basically didn’t know what I was doing during the first year or so lol. I usually say about 4-4.5 years. It’s possible to reach that level a lot more quickly though (I was reading a post on Norsklærer Karense’s facebook group and some people were like “yeah I went from zero to B2 in 3 months” lol rip) but for some people it takes longer. It all depends on the time you put in, how much exposure you have, how many opportunities you have to practise and how naturally you pick up languages.
As for free resources for complete beginners:
NTNU has a free course
Memrise is a good website/app with several Norwegian courses (I recommend starting with Norwegian 1, but there are loads of vocab lists on there)
Other apps include Drops and uTalk. I’m not big on Drops, but I quite like uTalk, even if the amount of coins you earn seems to be completely random (don’t be fooled into thinking you have to buy coins to progress!)
Lingohut has loads of lessons suitable for beginners
CALST is pretty great, focusing more on spoken Norwegian, and gives you the option to learn dialects (I recommend just learning Oslo dialect if you’re a total beginner, unless you’re moving to a specific area of Norway)
God i Norsk is a course in Norwegian for adult Norwegian-learners with lots of listening, reading, grammar and vocabulary exercises
Bildetema is also good for learning vocab and is available in both bokmål and nynorsk
Lesnorsk has lots of texts of different levels (I’ve linked you to the beginner level texts)
Norskpodden is a Norwegian podcast for beginners that comes with transcripts and games to test your understanding
Norwegian Teacher Karin on youtube has lessons suitable for beginners (check out her beginners playlists)
Norsklærer Karense is a qualified Norwegian teacher - her videos are entirely in Norwegian so you’ll need some basics first, but they’re a fantastic free resource (here you can find her videos specifically aimed at beginners)
Learn Norwegian Naturally is another good youtube channel
Here’s an English-Norwegian / Norwegian-English dictionary
Some other things I recommend:
Stick the radio on in the background while you’re doing housework/scrolling tumblr etc. You won’t understand anything at first, but that’s not the point - the point is to get you used to the rhythm of the language. I recommend NRK P2 as it has more talk and less shitty English music
Keep a journal. By that, I don’t mean write about your day in detail - obviously that’s not going to happen when you’re a beginner - start by writing things like “today is Wednesday. I wake up at 8am. I eat breakfast.” The purpose of your journal is to practise using the language, not to write coherent, connected prose with perfect or even good/correct grammar (my Finnish journal entries, for example, consist of 2-3 short sentences, using the only two tenses I know). You can share it if you want, but I keep most of my journal entries to myself.
Listen to Norwegian music. Search “norsk (your favourite genre)” on spotify for playlists.
If you haven’t already, create a langblr. Use it to reblog resources, vocab lists, posts about grammar etc. Write short posts and ask for feedback if you feel brave enough (it’s scary at first, but I find getting corrections is the most effective way for me to learn). Ask other langblrs questions about grammar and vocab (even if they don’t know the answer, there are usually a lot of native speakers lurking that are always willing to help!)
Sorry this got a bit long - I hope that helps you! Also, thank you so much for your kind words, and congrats on reaching the first checkpoint on Duo! I hope you enjoy your Norwegian journey.

Studyblr Tag!
GENERAL
What country are you studying in now? Eau Claire, America
What’s your major or specialization? Paralegal (Criminal Law)
What year are you in? First year of Paralegal, sixth year of college
What courses are you taking (/will be taking if on break)? Paralegal & Law Ethics, Civil Litigation, Legal Research, Economics, American Government
Favorite course? I loved my Web Design course and Cultures in Conflict courses at University
What languages do you know? Want to learn? English, Sarcasm, HTML/CSS
What language do you study in? Do you think in a different language? English, and nope!
Career aspiration? Paralegal for the District Attorney’s Office, and legal advocate for victims of stalking, especially in states whose laws offer perpetrators too many advantages via grey area and loopholes.
If you couldn’t be #8, what would you be? A web designer and developer
Moment you knew what you wanted to do? After I was stalked by a police officer who used work equipment, resources, databases and coworkers to stalk me. It is not legally considered stalking in Oregon (where it happened), but it is in my current state of Wisconsin.
STUDY ENVIRONMENT
Where is your favorite place to study? My computer, which has three 43″ monitors on top of an actual conference table. It’s nice for spreading out on.
When is your favorite time to study? My favorite is late night studying, between the hours of 10pm to 7 or 8am.
Clean desk or organized mess? Clean desk!!
Music or no music? What type? If I listen to music, it has to be lyric-less music because I get too distracted by the words.
Name top 3 worst distractions. Twitter, my boyfriend (who I live with), and YouTube
Exam time, dress up or dress down? Dress down, because I like to be super comfortable in otherwise stressful exams.
Exam time, hair up or hair down? Hair up and out of my face. When I’m hyper-focused, the tickle of my hair gets extra annoying.
Favorite outfit for studying? Honestly, just undies and a tee-shirt
Favourite study scent? Always flowers, specifically jasmine, gardenia, or honeysuckle.
STUDY TOOLS
Name 5 things you would consider your ‘study essentials’. I would say my Pentel side-click pencil, my color-designated Staedtler pens, my midliners, and notecards.
Hardcopy books or pdf online? HARDCOVER - I don’t know what it is but I cannot stand e-textbooks or typing up my notes (despite the fact that I was a computer science major. There’s something special about highlighting an actual book and writing notes down. I feel like you get to spend more time with the material.
Favorite study snack? drink? White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cliff Bar and coffee.
Favorite pen (or pencil)? Pentel Side-click mechanical pencil - I cant stand back-clicks because it makes me change my grip on the pencil every time.
Favorite notebook/paper? I’d like to explore more notebooks, like the leuchtturm1917 but I’ve been a Five Star notebook buyer since grade school. Maybe next semester.
Name 5 apps/tools that help you be productive. GoogleDrive, FamCal (my boyfriend and I’s synced calendar), the recorder app on my phone so I can listen back to lectures... I don’t know, I use paper more than apps.
How many pens/pencils/markers are in your pencil case? 2 pencils, 1 pen, 8 Staedtler pens, 8 midliner highlighters.
Backpack or purse? Backpack, but a messenger bag.
How many notebooks do you have? Five notebooks (one for each class), and one leather portfolio with a legal pad for my volunteer position with the DA’s office.
STUDY HABITS
How do you motivate yourself when you’re not motivated? When I’m not motivated, it’s typically because I’m too anxious. So I’ll take a break, take a bath, have a snack, declutter my desk, and that typically does the trick.
Pump up routine before writing an exam? run through notecards, listen to metal music tbh (I know it’s an unpopular genre but it gets your blood going).
Crammer or pacer? For assignments and general studying, I’m a pacer, and for papers I am a crammer ~ but not a day-before crammer kind of way, just in a I’m-on-a-roll kind of way.
Type of learner (kinesthetic, auditory, visual)? Kinesthetic in the sense that if I don’t physically write it out, I am less likely to remember it. It forces me to take my time with each definition/equation/theory. Then visual in the sense that, when I’m taking a test, I visualize exactly where on what page that information is written on.
How do you plan? (digital, planner, lists, no plan, etc.) Depends. Generally speaking, for my day, I use FamCal which syncs my boyfriend and I’s calendars together. For studying, like which order I’m going to read chapters/start essays/etc, I use notcard to-do lists.
Preferred note-taking method? The outline method, although I am going to attempt the Cornell method this semester.
Do you make to-do lists? How? Yes, religiously. I go class by class, starting with the lightest homework first. For example I’ll start with readings for class A, followed by the online quiz for class B, then begin the rough draft for my paper in class C.
Do you stick to your to-do lists? Yes, about 90% of the time. If I don’t then it’s because it’s for the heavier homework like a rough draft paper in class C, in which case it’s me not following my to-do list because I’m taking a break and finishing later.
Group study or independent study? Independent is good for when I’m in a hyper-focused study session, but groups are really good at motivating me because I’m competitive I want to be the most productive one there.
Average number of hours of sleep during exam time? Probably 8? I have to sleep more than the average person - I’ve been that way my whole life (it’s not a laziness thing). I typically sleep 10 hours or so, and have difficultly sleeping from the anxiousness of the upcoming test.
Ever pulled an all-nighter? Back when my PTSD was really bad I could never sleep at night, so I’d begin studying at 10pm and go to bed at 7 or 8 when dawn starts peeking through my blinds. So I used to be an exclusive “all-nighter”
STUDY MENTALITY
What do you do to recover from getting a grade lower than expected? I figure out where the hell I went wrong. Did the test come from the textbook instead of class notes? Did I focus more on general theories or ideas instead of the specifics like when and where or vice-versa?
One advice you’d give others? There is more than one way to get to where you want to go. I did a lot more writing of papers than weekly assignments in university. For papers, my best advice is to tailor the paper to what the teacher would like for optimal grading leniency. For example, in my Anthropology 380 course ‘Cultures in Conflict,’ I had to write about two cultures that struggled when they met. I may have enjoyed writing about a culture clash such as native amazonian tribes who are expected to stay “primitive” to satisfy the curiosities of american tourism, but I knew my teacher was into anime. So, I wrote my 20 page paper on “The Proliferation of Japanese Anime in American Pop Culture.” I got 110% on that paper (there were XC opportunities for that paper which I took, but I ALSO wasn’t graded down for ANYTHING because she loved the topic so much), and because it counted for so much of my grade, I ended that semester with 104% overall in that class.
What are you most proud of right now? Honestly, my desk. I took so much time on setting it up exactly the way I like it, and it’s so big and aesthetically pleasing that it’s EASY to WANT to study.
Favorite quote to keep you going? Someone somewhere is having a worse day than you. (So even if I don’t want to get up at 7:00am, I should appreciate that it’s my biggest struggle today)
Favorite way to destress? A BATH WITH A LUSH BATH BOMB
OTHER
Favorite 5 studyblrs? I can’t think of them all now, but I will make another post of people that pump out the type of content that made me love Studyblrs in the first place soon.
How often do you check Tumblr? 2x-3x a day?
Hobbies when you’re not studying? Playing video games (overwatch), taking care of my succulent garden (I easily have over 100), and watching political/social commentary on YouTube.
Favorite compulsory-reading book? Suspense/Crime books. I just Finished ‘Women in the Window’ which I read all in one day.
First nerdy joke that pops into your head. There are 10 types of people in this world: those who understand binary, and those who don’t.

To Fill or Not to Fill… (A crash course in Juvederm®)
It used to be that aging simply meant aging. These days, aging can mean a host of different things. One thing we can all agree on, however, is that face is the first place to shows signs of aging. In this era of youth and beauty quests, most will stop at nothing to fight or at least slow down the aging process. Often times people find themselves in a dermatologist or plastic surgeon's office frustrated with lines, creases, and wrinkles. It has become common practice to “plump” the offending crease. In essence, see a wrinkle, fill a wrinkle. Yes! It really is that easy.
Sound too good to be true? It's not. While there are literally dozens of facial treatments and procedures designed to reverse the process of aging, injectable fillers have become common practice for women and men of all ages. Fillers are desirable because the results are fairly immediate. Unlike surgery, they are non invasive and require no down time other than the possibility of mild bruising or swelling. While fillers are not inexpensive, when compared to the alternative of cosmetic surgery, the price is a mere drop in the bucket!
The competitive market today has made it not only easy to find a reputable injector but affordable as well with very little if any downtime at all. While people typically need to receive botox once every 3-4 months, fillers can last a year and in some people longer. Botox and fillers have completely different functions but used together can dramatically reverse the signs of aging. The price of injectable fillers is higher, yes. That being said, they last longer which levels the playing field.
What areas can dermal fillers address?
- Nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the mouth)
- Melomental fold (lines from the mouth to the chin)
- Lines above the upper lip
- In the lips for both volume and definition
- To restore volume to both the cheeks and cheekbones
- Frown lines (this is achieved best when combined with Botox)
If you are one of the many who would like to reduce or in some cases completely eliminate the appearance of wrinkles or enhance your lips, dermal fillers are a great option. Fillers are a minimally invasive procedure in which a natural substance that is already found in the body (hyaluronic gel) is injected just below the surface of the skin. The procedure adds volume to the facial structures.
One of the most widely used fillers is Juvederm®, though there are several different products available in this line. There is Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC, Juvederm® Ultra XC and Juvederm® Voluma XC. While all of these products are formulated to target aging skin, they all work differently and are each designed for specific areas. While a skilled injector will know which product should be used in a particular area, it can be a bit overwhelming to a patient who is just starting to step into the injectable world. So what's the difference between the products? We are so glad that you asked!
Both Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC and Juvederm® Ultra tend to be softer hyaluronic fillers. They are typically used on the lips and around the mouth to reduce both fine lines and wrinkles. By injecting Juvederm® around the nose and mouth, the treatment adds volume to the skin to smooth out any lines or folds. Both of these products can last anywhere between 9 months and a year.
Voluma is a newer product in the Juvederm® family and these days, it's all the rave. A clinical study determined that 6 to 18 months after treatment, all study participants rated their results positively. It is a thicker hyaluronic filler that is designed to restore lost volume in the cheeks. Voluma is injected deeply into the cheek area (no, it does not hurt) to correct volume loss that is usually age related. It is ideal for cheek, mid face, and chin lifts and unlike the other Juvederm® products, it can last up to two years.
An added benefit to dermal fillers is that they can be built upon. If someone was to receive a syringe of one of these fillers and a month later feels they would like to add more volume, there is no damage in adding to and building upon what was already injected. For some, more than one injection may be necessary to achieve the desired look. Because hyaluronic acid is a natural product, eventually the filler will be absorbed by the body and will need to be replenished. So while the results are virtually immediate and long lasting, they are not permanent.
If you are interested in plumping up your lips, reducing sagging skin or correcting mild to severe facial wrinkles and folds, we are confident that there is a dermal filler product designed to meet your needs. At Dermani Medpsa, we are committed to helping our patients age gracefully and are here to answer any and all questions you might have. Dermani Medspa is a TOP 250 provider with Allergan, the only maker of Juvederm®!

Starting the Black Girls In Tech x Cisco Cyber Academy course!
Saturday 28th January 2023 ☕
I mentioned a bunch of courses that Black Girls In Tech is offering! I decided to look over the courses and I chose to start one! I just want to see what they offer.
I'll probably leave the study for a weekend thing since I have my night classes and work during the weekdays 😅
But I'm excited! All I did was sign up and just skim-reading what is actually in the lessons and how the course is structured. There are 5 chapters and mini-quizzes throughout and get a certificate at the end, which is awesome!
That's all, thanks for reading and have a nice day coding! 🙌🏾💻

My Udemy Courses 💻📚
Someone messaged me yesterday about the Udemy courses I have bought. The conversation was about what are the best ones out there and which ones to use as a reference in learning how to code! I screenshotted the courses for them to look at but then thought why not share it on my blog as well!
The courses are mixed from web development to C# programming, to SQL, to Git then to C++ and game development 😎
The courses are mixed from web development to C# programming, to SQL, to Git then to C++ and game development 😎
I haven’t finished a single one completely yet! I would usually stop at like 20% - 50% and then start a new one 😅💔
Anyhoo, Udemy is really good for people who like to study with online courses!
⛔ Remember to wait for sales!!! Or get the free courses!! 😫😫😫 I don't think they will go as low as £9.99 again but they usually go for £11.99-15.99 on sales!
