I think it was intended (in the manga). The frame (also in the anime, but not in the latest episode) of Yamato at Oden's funeral is as a tall oni. Cos he was as a child. Even at that age. Jack was too!

This is episode 972 that kinda parallels the manga cap you've got above for chapter 971. Oda might've confirmed it was him too? Or maybe it was just fans speaking. I can't remember. Yeah, Oda definitely plays with the perspective, but small Yamato is also really cute. Sad episode.

A small detail that i wasn't sure was intended or not in the manga; that 8 year old Yamato is about the same size as an adult (plain human??) man due to his oni blood.

(He is smaller than the 3 samurai though)

But i do love the adorable feisty lil fella in the anime all the same 🥰

Wow this flashback was dark even for One Piece standards. Oda managed to make me feel dread with only 4 pages of flashback...

Like look at the bigger panel down here, with the dead crops, the weapon factory in the distance and even a noose on the tree meaning people are straight up killing themselves

Or the way Orochi just laugh at the pain of the citizen, even calling them "gluttonous" when it's his fault that they are starving to death

Oda just didn't hold himself back for this flashback really, and I imagine it will be even worse to see it animated in the future

Chapter 1047-1048: Holding Serve

I didn’t end up doing a write-up for 1047 because it felt filler-y. Unfortunately, 1048 was much the same. I see what Oda is doing; it’s clear that we’re about to reach the end of the Luffy/Kaido fight, and we’re getting the flashbacks of the horrors Kaido and Orochi have inflicted in parallel to the wishes of the Wano citizens on the lanterns to hammer home the emotional impact of Luffy’s victory...

But man, it sure feels tedious to see the same kinds of flashbacks over and over and over and...

I’m especially irritated at the way Hiyori’s story has been handled. After declaring earlier in the arc that she wanted to be the one to kill Orochi, she gets this incredible monologue as she watches Orochi burn...

But needs Denjiro to come save her? Dude goes missing for ever and ever and ever then pops up because once more, Oda’s female characters can’t be allowed to finish anything, no matter how much they deserve it and have even declared to want it. 

The moment is clearly being played for catharsis, and the panel of Denjiro coming in to behead Orochi (again) is cool 

And I like the panel of Hiyori’s cold expression in response to Orochi’s (probable) death

But man, it really bugs me that in the end, she’s getting shielded by a man.

Yes, I’m bitter.

The best thing I can say is that it feels like we’re going to see the end of the Luffy/Kaido fight in the next few chapters. Finally.

Do you think the straw hat fleet is heading over to Wano to go save Luffy

think about it;

they all have his vivre card. bartolomeo especially has Luffys vivre card on display

If they were to see it burning up like that, they would most likely take action immediately and start heading in the direction Luffy is in right?

especially if they saw the card actually turn into ashes and come back. that literally screams "something is definitely wrong."

Chapter 1048: s/light musings

Seems all the cruel seeds Oda has been planting are hitting home in this chapter, but very little of what is being revealed about Orochi and the devastation of Wano is new. I might do a side by side mangacap thing if I get the time (past chapters and current), but the Orochi posts don’t get much of a readership. Anyway, I don’t blame Oda for laying it on thick. The cruelty does get lost amongst the action and the many storylines. Gotta give Luffy good reason for going all out.

I’ll admit the shot with Denjiro was cool, and he totally deserved to slice a head. But I’m still pissed at Hiyori. WTF was her plan?! 

All she did was poke him with a nail and play guitar for him, which we all know has lethal affect.🙄  Seriously she didn’t know about the quake that trapped him, or the blaze that set him on fire.  And when he was trapped she just kept yelling at him. Girl at least smack him with the damn guitar! but no just yelling about how everyone hates him and he should die. Did she think he would starve under there or something?

It would have been better if she did start hitting him with some rubble when he was trapped, then have a moment of worry when the fire spirit comes, a vindictive YES when it sets him ablaze and keep smacking him, not enough to truly hurt him since she’s not built for combat, but have her rant about how she won’t let him leave, won’t let him escape, will deal with him herself so no one has to anymore, won’t let him trick or lie his way out of this. Have her just give as many blows as possible until the nail falls out. Then she can be scared, have Orochi rip the rubble out of her grip and menace her, then Denjiro comes to slice the head off. 

Same conclusion, but it shows she actually had a plan to keep Orochi occupied and out of the battle and her determination to get her hands dirty in ‘battle’. Instead Hiyori just relied on the fact that everything would work out with out any real work from her, and it did.

GODA BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH ANOTHER GREAT CHAPTER. After gear 5th, Luffy vs Kaido became my favorite fight in One Piece. What’s y’all favorite fights? What did you guys think of the chapter?

To be honest I don't really like that Denjiro had to save her again, I mean it was pretty obvious that it was gonna happend, but still I think this should have been Hiyori's turn to take revenge, she waited 20 years for this moment just to end up as a damsel in distress again.

I just don't understand why Oda hates to let the women take revenge but when a man does it it's completely fine and cool. Let the women be a little unhinged please.
