"these things cannot be stopped; an inherited will, one's dream and the ebb and flow of the ages. as long as people hunger for freedom these things will exist" - Pirate King, Gold Roger chapter 100

One thing i find really interesting is that at one point it was said that Zoan type divil fruits influence their users, wich would put more reason behind why luffy seems to liberate entire countrys for something as simple as a single bowl of rice. His devil fruit literally makes him a god, and a common offering for gods is food, so when people give him food and tell him about their problems he automatically wants to help them since they technically made an offering

An analysis of the straw hats’ devil fruits! I just think its cool how they’re all based around being human :) This is meant to be a part two of this analysis of this Mera Mera no mi I made a little bit ago.

Hana Hana no Mi Flowers bloom under certain conditions, be it weather, sun or care, and the same can be said for humans. What conditions did it take you to bloom, tears, time or the sun that laughs about you?
Hito Hito no Mi Do we get to choose when humanity blossoms within us, or do memory and choiceful guidance allow us the chance to walk, to run, to flourish as man.
Yomi Yomi no Mi: A chance at life through death, allowing that chance demise to be the seeding place for a continuing promise. Does the hoary earth need more than a body to revive the soul, or should sunlight come by its side?
Nika The heartbeat that carries your dreams beside it’s own humanity creates a hopeful beat. A drumming sensation that allows these two ideals to dance together, discordant like a ball of lightening, snapping and sparking in place. These conduits create the building desire of liberation, opening the heart’s windows to the sun above. What happens when the sun itself becomes filled with that very human need of liberation, when its flames begin to cast new light on our faces.. All you can do is laugh!

“Hey Luf. I’m a bit late, aren’t I? Sorry for that,” Zoro said. “But I’m here now, so you’d better wake up quick. We are seeing each other after two days, you know?”
@alazystranger I READ IT!!! IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!! GAHHHH!!!!
I just, I ADORE IT when people write the crew going on an adventure like that- like it's just another filler story in the series or something!!! Like you create ur own little world, and bits of worldbuilding, and you write the crew and their interactions so organically,,, and then the way luffy goes missing feels so well done??? It makes so much sense!!!
PLEASE GO READ THE FIC BELOW U WONT REGRET ITT!!!

I want to be more upbeat tonight, but there's something I need to get off my chest about Film Red.
You want to know what I think is the saddest, most subtle detail they added in the movie? The shimmer in Shanks' fucking eyes.
I don't have a decent pic or gif of it (will try to find one tomorrow), but there's 2 or 3 moments where we see this extra sparkle in Shanks' brown eyes and all of them revolve around Uta.
The first one is technically debatable because 1) I can't remember how obvious the detail was in the movie and 2) the moment was quick - blink and you might miss it. It's during the flashback, after Uta has beat Luffy in their eating competition. She gets ready to sing, Luffy's still a little huffy about the loss, and Shanks says "The star's about to take the stage, Luffy. You won't want to miss this." (Paraphrasing here.) During the first few lines of Where the Wind Blows, we see everybody enjoying it. Makino and the dog are swaying to the song and Shanks, oh Shanks is staring at Uta with the most content smile on his face. He's proud. The glimmer is his joy and pride in his daughter's talent.
A more somber version pops up at the end of the movie, when Uta's singing her final song (reprising the song from the flashback). We see the Red Hair Pirates watching on with reluctant acceptance. They know Uta's dying. We get a close up on Shanks' face, seeing just how much this hurts him despite resigning himself to Uta's decision. The light in his eyes is the paternal grief. It almost acts like a symbol of Uta's life too, since the setting sun dims that light until the shadows mask it completely.
The one that makes me just about sob though - as if I'm not an emotional wreck through the entire movie - is when Uta and Shanks are first reunited. Shanks has saved Luffy's life, again, and Uta begins ordering her sleeping fans to attack the crew. We see them getting swarmed from every direction and taking hits.
Then we cut back to Shanks.
And the look on his face initially seems so out of place for the situation... because that shimmer is back and he's smiling. In fact, he practically looks like he's in a trance. He doesn't move or even acknowledge the people grabbing him, despite getting punched in the face several times. His sole focus is Uta. Shanks looks like he's holding back strong emotions. It's nearly identical to the expression he had 12 years ago, only more potent. This is a father who not only is getting to see his daughter again, but is seeing for the first time the young woman she's grown into. All of Shanks' memories of Uta are from when she was a kid. Even if he saw one of her streams, it's not the same as seeing her face to face. Shanks is proud, most certainly, but there's this sense of great relief (she survived; she's truly there and alive, despite everything she went through) and an unfathomable joy that I doubt any good parent can properly articulate.
We know how much Shanks cares about the next generation. He wants to see his own two kids succeed and live life to the fullest. He's watched Luffy get closer and closer to his dreams ever since the boy got a bounty for beating Arlong. Now, in this chaotic moment, he's seeing that the little toddler he found in that treasure chest has grown into such a stunning and talented woman, just as he always hoped for her. It's one of his own dreams come true and it means so much to him. We can even see that when we cut briefly to Shanks' perspective. Uta is front and center, but clouded over, like you might experience while tearing up. It doesn't matter that she's cursing his name. If she hates him, then so be it. She's grown up. She's alive and Shanks gets another chance to see her in person - something that he probably assumed would never happen again after leaving her behind, despite wanting to desperately have that proof that she's "okay". (To clarify, I don't believe Shanks saw Uta's crazed expression and went 'This is fine'. I simply mean that he could see she was alive, that this wasn't another Ace situation where he arrived too late.)
Then you think about the rest of the movie from this point: Shanks fights against admirals and Tot Musica; he watches on in horror as Uta becomes too weak to stand; she rejects the medicine, essentially sealing her fate in order to save others, embodying the kindness he always saw in her during their time together. Then, the tragic cherry on top, Shanks gets forgiven by Uta, hears her call herself a Red Hair pirate again, and sees how much being his daughter means to her, how important the love he raised her on is to her sense of self. Hooray! Closure for dad and daughter! Except then Uta dies in his hold, slips through his fingers despite being so close. His and Luffy's crews worked so hard to save her. They were so damn close to doing it, but then it's ripped away from him. Just like Roger, he has to watch helplessly as someone he loves dies.
Long story short, it's no fucking wonder he went apeshit with his haki. His Conqueror's haki was the only thing he had to strike back. His grief turned into pure rage because, let's be honest, if the marines weren't there, they probably would have had time for Uta to release everyone trapped in Dreamland and still have her drink the medicine Hongo made. If he couldn't save her, then Shanks was going to remind them why they should never touch someone he loves.

luffy IS selfish. i need to correct myself. he does everything simply because he wants to and he doesn’t care how big of a mess he makes to get his way. but his way is always freedom and kindness and food for the hungry and water in parched lands and happiness for everyone around him. his selfishness is so inherently selfless that it feels wrong to call him selfish but he is undeniably selfish. it just so happens that he’s kind, too.
