A snippet from the lab kid Steve story:

Steve starts sixth grade in the fall. It's not quite long enough for his hair to grow out, not long enough to speak like the rest of the kids, clumsily mimicking what he’s only ever eavesdropped on. He's so far behind in every subject that he feels like he'll never catch up, academically. He gets called an idiot a lot, both out loud and in private thoughts.

The popular kids, led by Tommy Hagan and Carol Perkins, mock him: he looks weird, he talks weird, he's dumb. He's also ridiculously psychic. He could tell them to just ignore him. He could blend in, keep his head down. But he’s tired of failing; tired of no one wanting to be his friend because he’s weird and doesn’t catch the social cues until he’s fucked them up. He’s so tired of being alone, and if he can’t have genuine friendship, he’ll take what he can get.

Or rather, what he can command.

"You love me," he tells them, all those petty, cruel kids who would have ground him down and enjoyed it, who loved when he hurt. "You want to spend all your time with me. You don't care about anyone's opinion except mine."

He maybe breaks them a little. He doesn't care. He’s learned. No one in this world is kind to freaks; the lab killed the only person who ever really loved him: the mother who gave him his name. Steve will take care of himself because no one else will, and they’d only do terrible things to him if they knew what he was. He learned this philosophy over Brenner’s metaphorical knee, and it's reinforced by the indifference and dislike of his conscripted parents, the casual superiority and cruelty of his enslaved friends, the relentless jerk, jerk, jerk that replaced creepy weirdo in the thoughts of every other person in his life.

No one loves him who isn't forced to at mental gunpoint: that's the way of the world.

if you don't count my misophonia I've always thought I'm a relatively neurotypical person as I don't struggle with social cues and conventions (I even embrace them). today in therapy I was talking about my deep sense of alienation and how I have to adjust my behaviour to fit in with people and the exhaustion caused by it and my therapist went "in neurodivergent circles that's called masking" and now I'm like. oh

Gonna make it a thing where I try and draw attention to LGBT+ artist from all over LatAm every now and then cause I'm bi, trans, Latine, and I love sharing music with people cause it genuinely can and does do so much for us.

This time around I think a lot of you would like getting familiar with Urias, she's a Brazilian rapper and singer who wants to make a mark for the trans girls of the world. This single is a song for unapologetic trans existence and pride from 2019 called Diaba (or "she-devil" in English).

She's always pulling out interesting concepts with a constant stream of experimental electronic sound and eye catching visuals. She actually released a new album about five months ago thats mostly based in Dance genres with accompanying visualizers and dance videos (the videos for these are also pretty eye straining or also prone to flashing images and light), along with another album called FURIA in 2022 that is also worth a listen.
