I literally woke up in the middle of the night like God will dark rise is so fucking screwed. The line that’s like. “Everyone wanted to kill the Dark King.” What’s the part where he looks at Violet helplessly, haunted, almost pleading for mercy? But of course he reveals nothing of substance to anyone. Elizabeth is too young to understand but the reader knows what “Her relationship with that boy was…unnatural” can mean. Tying him to bedposts? Failing to strangle him? What else? Never not even once seeing beyond a mythological identity Will himself didn’t know he had? What did he think was the reason? That he was just intrinsically hateful? Of course he says nothing. Of course Violet can’t trust him- he’s given her nothing as painfully real as what she’s given him. So he gives her the sword hoping at least he can die at the hands of someone he loved, but even that doesn’t work out - she gives the sword to a Visander still furious at SARCEAN. The pattern continues; no one looks at Will, who vomits when he realizes what’s happened to James, Will who is much of a liar and killer and sneak as Elizabeth accuses but nonetheless wants to be different. Even when he doesn’t remember his own past. There’s no way out for him that doesn’t hurt. Hope this obsession passes soon given the one and a half years of waiting required for book 3

As of late, though, new headaches were piling up: a rash of turf battles with the Sumiyoshi, repeated debt collection failures, and revenue falling across the board for several major establishments. Someone—multiple someones—had become derelict in their duties.
Or they were sowing trouble.
The missing shipment was the final straw. This was not some under lieutenant overcharging on protection fees and pocketing the difference, or skimming off the top of a bar's till.
Roughly 21 million yen worth of weapons—gone. Poof into fucking thin air. He had buyers lined up, but nothing to sell. Just the thought made Seto want to shoot someone.

I finished my Kingoh rewatch, among other things,
11 episodes in no one has refer to Rita with female pronouns yet.
I exteremely doubt that Toei would confirm in show canon their gender but so far I see they are delibrately striving to maintain their gender neutral/unkown status. From the first impression of skirt-less suits, to the specific title and now down to the script.
(iirc, i don't recall yuzuki refering to her character with 'she' as well. and that said, japanese grammar helps a lot in omitting pronouns.)
I don't know if Rita's gender would come into focus in a later episode but I doubt it'd be handled with the screentime THSH did. It might just be hazily brushed aside in a line or two to avoid complaints from the PTA. In the best faith, I just hope they don't give Rita a stereotypical makeover episode. They can have a makeover episode (on a fanservice level i'd be the first one to support putting rita/yuzuki through outfits) just reaffirm at the end that it was Rita's choice to present the way they are.
On the other hand, the fact that Morfonia's successor status is brought up hints at a future episode for that transition. At the very least, a flashback episode is guaranteed. Then we might learn if the gender identity is Rita's choice or if the throne demands so?
Summary:
the character: 私 Watashi
tv asahi/news outlets: Kanojo (she)
Uchuusen vol.180 : "gender neutral" - the exact word in katakana
Show (so far): 国王 (King/Sovereign)、裁判長 (Chief Justice - other kings, most frequent)、あの人 (that person - Gira, Morfonia)

“I can’t believe you would lie to us about something so horrific!” Girlfriend’s going to lose her voice if she keeps up this yelling.
“I didn’t lie to you,” Psychic gives a humorless little chuckle, and whatever accusation Girlfriend was going to fling at him next dies in her throat. “You all assumed from the beginning that I was fine. I just didn’t tell you anything different.”

(( Sometimes I feel the need to remind people that, even though Miranda is very outwardly emotional and tends to make a show of wearing her heart on her sleeve, she tries to hide her actual issues as much as physically possible. I feel like people often miss that, and assume that just because she doesn't come across as stereotypically repressed or emotionally constipated, if she doesn't vocalize her issues, then she doesn't have them.
Which, to be fair, Miranda wholly encourages and relies on in-character, as a further means of ensuring she can live in denial and no one ever has to know what her genuine upset looks like. Unfortunately, it also means I feel like a lot of people end up missing how much Miranda is fully the queen of denial and their muses relationships with Miranda likewise suffer, without them knowing exactly what the source of it all is.

GODS I KEEP THINKING ABT LIKE. YOU MENTIONED HOLLY ASKING WHEN THEY GET TO GO HOME AND SHE JUST CANT AND
it's so painful to think abt because yes, the spiral is going to be saved because of the prophecy, and all these lives are saved - but ambrose really went "needs of the many" and basically deprived a whole child of their personhood and maybe even their identity outside of "savior of the spiral" with the depersonalization of the wizard and how it starts with literally entering the wizard world. you pick a new name for your wizard and you very much can Tell that most names like that dont exist where the YW came from so their initial identity gets erased and then the NEW identity they try to build gets erased too to the point where i have to be impressed but also severely worried that the the YW is STILL internalizing how they feel and being essentially constantly sent on more quests and
this is complete rambling that probably hardly makes sense but god its just how screwed up w101's plot is deep down
YOU'RE SO RIGHT ABOUT THE ERASURE AND DEPERSONALIZATION, YOUR BRAIN IS ON
Like that's something so interesting to think about like how and why did the YW choose their new name? Did Ambrose choose it for them; did he merely encourage them to take on a more "appropriate" identity to match their new culture?? Did the Wizard ever want to change their name in the first place? How does their name change affect their journey and their personality going forwards?
And you're so right because like in a sense, you're literally CREATING a new character to fit into this new world. Irl you're choosing their appearance, their name and their gender, everything. Build-A-Bear starting from scratch. And even though the character creation bit has no underlying meaning to it, I think it unintentionally has such a heavy metaphor that you are no longer a human from Earth, but a Wizard in the Spiral. You're not "Holly LastName" with regular Earth clothes, you're now "Holly Steelcry" with a bitchin' purple and yellow outfit that is now SUITED for the Spiral. Yippee!!!
Like I don't even think the Pirate goes through this shit; weren't they born in the Spiral? Like didn't they have parents that were originally FROM the Spiral in the first place???? It's just the Wizard that's been yoinked from their original homeland and into a new one 💀
And that's one of the things that Holly learns throughout their life in the Spiral - is that her Earth self, her original personality and heritage... is not enough. What they were before was not what the Spiral needed. The world doesn't want Holly, it wants Holly STEELCRY. Their family, friends, pets, past hobbies and their ultimate sacrifice in leaving them behind is not what matters to Ambrose, to the Council of Light, to the entire universe. What everyone needed was a HERO and Holly was NOT a hero, which is why they made her INTO one. Unfortunately, it was that erasure and depersonalization you mentioned that Ambrose, and later Holly themself, thought was necessary in order to save everyone. Now you have a Wizard who may or may not be an entirely different person than what you started out with and for NO GOOD REASON. It's that "sacrifice yourself for others" trope that I love and hate so much 😭😭😭😭😭

I thought of this before in passing but it's really just hit me that oh my god if any of the current animatronics knew Foxy well enough before everything that happened, and Roxy didn't know about that stuff, then a good chunk of them would have been lying to Roxy by omission this entire fucking time

surprise M!A: oh no! someone slipped truth serum into addie's morning coffee! this surely will do nothing because addie already ALWAYS tells the truth...!
>There had been a bitterness in your coffee that sugar wouldn't fix, but you drank all of it, thinking that pouring the pot down the sink drain would be wasteful. Maybe more cream in the next cup, maybe caramel... Something else on the next try.
>But the next cup brings the same taste, and it sticks to your tongue, even when you eat something, even when you drink something else, and even later when you press a kiss to your lover's lips. There is the fear that you've been poisoned, all the terror of assassination attempts striking in the center of your chest. But you wait. A message is ready to be sent to someone who could help, your hands gripping the edge of the counter until enough time has passed, enough to rid you of most of your nerves. And just like that, the message deleted.
>It felt wrong to do that.
>The hours pass easily, the day brings nothing exciting, another cup of coffee is downed as you look at old records... A perfectly ordinary day, where you scroll through a website and watch conversations and roll your eyes at all of them, and-- hmm. That feels wrong, too.
>You decide that maybe more rest will help, leaving behind coffee mugs and mundane lists. There's the ascent to your room, passing by a mirror in the hallway, and out of the corner of your eye, you think you see a flash of green, hear the whisper of a cruel voice with your timbre, and you feel wrong again.
>Something is different. You don't know what. You're certain you'll find out soon enough.

Hearing some thoughts on Rin's lines about Clear Wing.
I don't disagree that it feels off-putting or wrong (whichever you prefer to describe it as), but I imagine her reasoning doesn't necessarily boil down to seeing herself as above Yuugo (though it's very possible it partially is; they both lived in a dog eat dog world - the City - and they're commons to boot - so they're fighting one another to duel Jack up until she's kidnapped, even if Yuugo says they were going to do it together), as much as it boils down to her being the responsible one.
Yuugo really isn't, so it might possibly be that, given how dependable of a monster Clear Wing (and Crystal Wing) are, Rin thinks her burn deck is a better fit for such a monster than Yuugo's luck based deck. The answer to this is obviously no as soon as anything to do with Zarc or Ray comes into the picture (Clear Wing and Yuugo are both cut from the same quarter of the Supreme King Dragon, even if it was by En Winds.)
Or, Rin is probably jealous she doesn't have effect negation in her monsters, and is bullying Yuugo about it because she's seemingly never really dealt with her frustrations in any other way (because Yuugo's always there.) Or maybe because Clear Wing is a unique card and Rin wants a copy too.
Alternatively, this is somehow the same thing as Yuuri's sadistic streak; a hold over from their Original self, and Ray decided Clear Wing should've been one of her monsters. As if Zarc would lose one of his dragons without a fight, though.
(Additional note I think is important but couldn't figure out where to put it in; Rin's defeat line in the overworld implies to me that Yuugo expects her to win her matches, like it shouldn't be hard for her. Yuugo's never gotten angry at her even if she's gotten angry at him multiple times and she's probably afraid of what he'd think - either this hasn't happened and she's worried all his frustrations with her would ungracefully tumble out, only putting up with her because she wins and can get food on their table even if we know that wouldn't happen - he loves her so much he'll ramble about her to anyone given half a chance, or it has happened before and Rin doesn't want to experience that sort of thing again, as though it would embarrass her.)
(So her self esteem is either rock bottom when it comes to losing. or she's got too much pride to admit any of her losses to the one person who adores her)
