Fear and dribbling: A tale of UK footie
James Graham's football play 'Dear England' features Joseph Fiennes as Gareth Southwood, and is screened by Cinema Nouveau in South Africa, this week.
AND …. it’s in! Joseph Fiennes is Gareth Southgate in James Graham’s stage play Dear England, currently being screened by Cinema Nouveau. Photograph courtesy IFC Center. I do hope there will be a recording so I get the chance to watch. I've read such lovely reviews.

So I went to go see Nye because I’m in London right now. The theatre was packed on a Tuesday night, and with good reason.
When I tell you my partner and I CRIED at the end of Nye, I don’t mean in a fun, cute way. Like an embarrassing, we’re surrounded by British people who don’t emote and they’re all just slightly misting oh my god stop, kind of way. It was so wonderful and heartbreaking, and a lot of that was because of Michael Sheen. He brings so much vulnerability and pathos to this role (even while belting a musical number, or literally on his knees shaking his butt for a girl). It’s impossible not to fall in love a little bit. The whole cast was amazing. Just go if you can.

imagine being industry darling david tennant and having been industry darling david tennant for a good few decades and they still manage to misspell your name at the olivier awards - for which - by the way - you've been nominated multiple times now

Dame Joan Ann Plowright, Baroness Olivier (28 October 1929 – 16 January 2025) was an English actress whose career spanned over six decades.
She won two Golden Globe Awards and a Tony Award. She was also nominated for an Academy Award, an Emmy and two BAFTA Awards.
She was the second of only four actresses (as of 2024) to have won two Golden Globes in the same year.
She won the Laurence Olivier Award for Actress of the Year in a New Play in 1978 for Filumena.
She was described by Variety as "perhaps the greatest Anglophone actor of the 20th century."

Award-winning British actor Joan Plowright who, with her late husband Laurence Olivier, did much to revitalize the U.K.'s theatrical scene in the decades after World War II, has died. She was 95. RIP 🙏

Man, that is a FACE. Suddenly thinking of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard and her saying "We had faces then." Sam has a FACE. Jacob, Delainey, Assad, they have FACES. Beautiful AND fascinating.

Face cards that never decline 😔 I love that we're always so shocked by the fact that the cast of the beautiful people show are beautiful, haha.
