Eindhoven, Netherlands October 2022 Old Meets New Series I While we were visiting my daughter and son-in-law in the Netherlands this fall, I spent a couple of days exploring Eindhoven, the nearest city, just a short 15 minute bus ride from her home in Veldhoven. Very good public transportation runs frequently between the two, with buses every 10 minutes or so. I was struck with the contrast between old and new in downtown Eindhoven and environs. The city manages to make it all work in an interesting and appealing fashion. It did not hurt that the weather was drop dead gorgeous for our autumn visit towards the end of the first week in October. This first series of 10 images compares and contrasts one old building or view with a new modern one. Timeless Harmony: The Whisper of Neuer Pavillon

In Charlottenburg’s serene embrace,

Where Spree’s soft whispers grace the air,

A pavilion stands, a time-bound space,

Its stories vast, its visage fair.

Built for a king’s quiet summer dream,

In neoclassic, purest form,

With columns white, and shutters green,

It weathered sun, it braved the storm.

Schinkel’s hand, both firm and light,

Drew lines where past and future meet,

A square of nine, a perfect sight,

Symmetry’s dance on peaceful street.

Yet war’s cruel touch, with fire’s breath,

Reduced its grandeur to mere walls,

A ghost of glory, scarred by death,

Within its heart, the silence calls.

But from the ashes, life reclaimed,

A phoenix from the charred remains,

In '60 rose, its soul renamed,

A gallery where art sustains.

Bright colors in the rooms reborn,

Contrast the façade’s white repose,

A harmony of old and new,

In every space, the spirit grows.

Now as we walk its storied halls,

We see the past in every stone,

Yet feel the future in its calls,

A place where history finds its home.

Through Schinkel’s art, both strong and true,

We learn to blend what’s gone, what’s near,

A timeless dance of old and new,

Where every brick and beam is dear.

The Neuer Pavillon stands to show,

That time can weave a tapestry,

Where bygone days and futures glow,

In perfect, quiet harmony.
