Way back in August 2009, Ryukishi07 worked with Peach Pit on a visual novel for the PSP called Okami Kakushi.
Tumblr media
The basic premise is similar to the start of Onikaskushi-hen from Higurashi:
A 15-year-old boy, Hiroshi Kuzumi, has recently moved into a new town in the mountains. The town is separated into new and old streets by the river, and many mysterious local customs and practices still remain, and the townspeople are unusually friendly towards him. Although Hiroshi is confused but enjoying his new life, one person has kept her distance from him: class committee member Nemuru Kushinada. In their few encounters she gives him a word of advice: "Stay away from the old streets."
I got interested in it and imported it back then despite being unable to read it. Eventually, through trial and error, and save scumming, I got through all of the routes(which there is a flowchart and chapter jump for to make this easier). I could figure some parts out on my own, but wish it had gotten brought over/a translation patch.
I also watched the anime, released here as Okamikakushi: Masque of the Wolf, which, despite seeming like they were trying to cram ALL of the important parts of each route into one, with only 12 episodes(anime studios, don’t do this, please), did help me figure out some parts from the game I was confused about.
Admittedly, since, far as I know, Okami Kakushi doesn't have a reason, aside from being a visual novel, for different routes to exist(like Higurashi and Umineko do), I don't actually know how they'd do them in anime form. ^^; It’d still need more than just 12 episodes to get everything important said and done.
I’ve been trying to find a good, detailed summary for the game’s routes, but no luck. ^^; If anyone knows where there is one, please tell me. =D

'Okamikakushi' Anime Gets Hulu Distribution
'Okamikakushi' Anime Gets Hulu Distribution
Anime fans looking for more shows to consume through legal outlets have another one this weekend as Sentai Filmworks series Okamikakushi is now available on Hulu through The Anime Network’s account. The series is up in full and available to Hulu Plus members to stream directly to their app connected smart TVs as well as those with digital devices and an account. Based on the PlayStation Portable game of the same name that came out in 2009, Okamikaksuhi is a twelve episode series animated by AIC with the man behind When They Cry involved in the overall creation of the game. With Ryukishi07 behind the game design which influenced the series, it also featured the character designs from Peach-Pit, which always draw in fans because of their cute looks while knowing there’s more underneath.
Plot concept: Kuzumi Hiroshi moves to the town of Joga with his father and his handicapped sister. The town’s stories of man-like wolves seem like small town lore. But when people start to go missing, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
