Finished Ok Ko and imma be real. I relate so much at the second last episode of it. Specially now when I’m going back and forth with my own negative emotions. But to see how you can try and give your other half the love and care you do deserve, then you can learn to love yourself. Sort of how I saw it anyway, and watching that show of its entirety with a deep meaning like that where surely, others struggle with that feeling as well, it makes you come to appreciate what it tries to convey. With how old I am now, I wished I learned that sooner than later 🥹 regardless, have this, I finished it as I cried real man tears.

I don't like professor venomous so much because when he's on-screen boxman does so much shit I die from second-hand embarrassment but I love studying him like a rat on a dissection tray

ANYWAYS

literally the show is a love letter to 80s/90s tropes and anime, with the main character ko being a 6-11 year old boy (literally his canon age) who wants to be a hero, and the setting just. being FILLED with people with super powers (ranging from goofy stuff like coltwort the broccoli's anxious sweat mist to our LEGEND carol who can copy any power she sees. and also lazerblast and his ability to drain energy but yknowwwww)

it starts off as a slice of life type beat, with it being episodic with a couple of plot heavy episodes (commonly involving either the super hero team P.O.I.N.T or ko's shadow self tko), but an actual plot comes into play in seasons 2-3. not to spoil anything but *commits various war crimes* /pos

it seems rushed in season 3 because it was. cartoon network (derogatory) canned the show and shorted it's 3rd season, therefor making everyone have to rush the story they wanted to tell (sound familiar owl house fans?? dana did it better though)

I HAVE!!! a lot of feelings about this goofy lil cartoon but god i love it sm. professsor venomous is my dad fr fr and i would kill for anyone and everyone (except. a certain villain who shows up for tko. i hate him (not tko i love the emo baby))

Alright, so you hate modern shounen; but what's your opinion on those action-packed male-driven cartoons from the 00's/2010's (Ben 10, Danny Phantom, Xiaolin Showdown, etc.)?

Certainly SUPERIOR than Shounen, I'll tell you that. The characters are much more charismatic, the female characters are way more badass-y, and some of them at least bother to be a little bit more diverse.

I remember seeing someone jokingly referring to these types of shows as "Hamburger Shounen", and I think I'll use this term from now on, because while they do follow some elements and tropes utilized in Shounen, but they were created in western territory, rather than the usual japanese one.

Here's a list of some western cartoons that I consider to be Hamburger Shounen type:

Ben 10 (excluding that 2016 reboot, obvi);

Danny Phantom;

Xiaolin Showdown;

Sym-Bionic Titan;

Jake Long: American Dragon;

Megas XLR (borrows elements from Mecha and Kaiju, and has even parodied Magical Girls with the Ultra Chicks);

El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera (borrows elements from Tokusatsu);

Generator Rex;

OG!Teen Titans;

¡Mucha Lucha!;

Chaotic;

Static Shock;

Avatar: The Last Airbender;

Big Hero 6;

LEGO Monkie Kid;

Class of the Titans;

Code Lyoko;

Combo Niños;

Firebreather;

Into the SpiderVerse (I know, it's Marvel, but it's just so insanely good);

OK KO: Let's Be Heroes! (though this is more of a parody, and one of my least faves, to be honest... Has also borrowed Magical Girl elements with the character Elodie);

Sky High (this one's a live action movie, and I'll take this one over BnHA any day);

Hi-Fi Rush* (this one's a recently launched video game, but the accuracy it has with a 00's/2010's cartoon is just so beautifully crafted);

And that's all I could get from my memory. There's prolly a lot more out there, and I might be wrong in my predictament, but my shounenphobic instincts are saying "fuck it, we ball".

*Funny thing about HFR is that its protagonist, Chai, is 25 YEARS OLD. He's the only protagonist on this list who isn't a teenager, and yet he looks way too young and dumb to be actually 25. It's hysterical, really!
